Full-day My Son Tour from Da Nang
My Son is a holy complex of Hindu temples 55 km southwest of Da Nang centre. In 1999, it won the Unesco title and since then, has been known by tourists. For the United Nations organization, it was the best remains of the fallen Champa Kingdom which ruled the region from 2 nd to 19 th century. Because of long-time abandonment, its surroundings are covered by forests and diverse wildlife.
Guided My Son tours from Da Nang are available daily, on both half-day and full-day basis. Transport and sightseeing in the world heritage site takes a morning or afternoon. So, a day trip has to include another destination to fill the rest of sunny times. The best to combine are Hoi An old town, another world heritage site or the Marble Mountains, a group of striking and sacred mountains. See what to expect for the first itinerary above.
Day trip from Da Nang to My Son Sanctuary and the Marble Mountains, allows travellers to know a lot about culture, history and religion. While My Son is a Hindu site and non-active, the hills are dedicated to Buddhism and still active. While one is constructed by the Chams, the other is a Vietnamese holy place. On the other hand, this day tour provides chances to be closer to nature. That is a walk around a valley with many forests and a hiking up to peaks coupled with cave explorations. Interestingly, both were communist’s bases during the Vietnam War. All ensure a day full of fascinations. See details in Full-day My Son Sanctuary and Marble Mountains .
The Best of Da Nang and Hoi An Old Town
Hoi an old town & marble mountains.
See details in The Best of Da Nang and Hoi An Old Town Walking Tour or Monkey Mountains, Marble Mountains and Hoi An Town
This day tour introduces one of the best in Da Nang and the best of Hoi An. The Marble Mountains (Five-element Mountains) is the most visited attraction near the city center. A visit to its best sights requires a hike with steep steps, and provides so much fun. There are ancient, richly-decorated Buddhist temples, amazing caves, and peaks with a 360 o view. Around the hillfoots, locals are proud of their tradition in carving stone sculptures.
Nearly 20 km south of it, Hoi An Old Town is a world heritage listed in 1999. It has been preserving over 1,000 timber houses and lots of perfectly-preserved buildings. Its streets are filled by lanterns, flowers, tailors, souvenir stores, shophouses, markets, coffee shops, restaurants, and some pavement stalls. All are enough to keep the day interesting and full of excitement.
To make the trip busier a bit, a top attraction is added into the itinerary. There are Am Phu Cave, Lady Buddha and its pagoda, or Museum of Cham Sculpture. The cave is a hiding place of Vietcong communists and links to an interesting Buddhist concept about life and death. The statue of Lady Buddha is the tallest in Vietnam, 67 meters and the pagoda next to it is bigger than any others. The museum accommodates the largest collection of Cham sandstone sculptures, brought from My Son Sanctuary and important archaeological sites.

Classic Da Nang Day Trips
Ba na hills & the golden bridge.
Ba Na Hills (station) is a complex of entertainment, 40 km west of Da Nang. Established by the French in 20 th century and rebirthed in the 2000s, this is the most visited attraction in the city. Thanks to being located at an elevation of 1,500 meters, the weather here is cooler than the plains. To get to it, travellers are transported by one of cable cars that hold 4 world records, including the longest of the world. From the cabin, astonishing sceneries are visible. There are endless wooded mountains, pristine forests, white-water falls, amazing outcrops, and clouds. After landing, the inspirational Golden Bridge and the huge French village are next points of interest. The bridge is a new wonder, with a gorgeous and mythical beauty. Lunch is served in a buffet restaurant in the village. See details of the tour in Da Nang Ba Na Hills Tour (or Da Nang Golden Bridge Tour ).
Da Nang City Tours (the Best of Da Nang)
A day tour around Da Nang is really popular. It covers the best sights of the city center and outliers, including the Marble Mountains, the Lady Buddha, Linh Ung Pagoda Son Tra Peninsula, Museum of Cham Sculpture, the Pink Church, and Han Market. 3 first places are what travellers will explore in the morning, and the rest is for the afternoon, after lunch with Vietnamese foods. This tour is a choice for those who like to decipher every secret of the city. See details in the Da Nang City Discovery (Full Day Da Nang City Tour).

Hai Van Pass is the best coast road in Vietnam , 30 mins drive from Da Nang center. It’s 20 km long, featuring many twists, turns and especially, hairpins near its top at an elevation of 1,500 meters. During the ride up and down here, travellers will feel so many fresh and adventuring vibes, see panoramic and picturesque outlooks, and learn about history a bit at old remains. After “done” the pass, Lang Co “the Blue Lagoon ” is a must see. This stopover is famous nationally for its mind-blowing landscape from turquoise water to forests and mountains with clouds around the top. There are some breezy stilt restaurants here, to taste fresh seafood dishes. In 2009, Lang Co became a member of the Club of Most Beautiful Bays of the World.
For more fun rides, this option takes travellers to Monkey Mountain. Scenic routes along a striking coast or through jungles, and sweeping viewpoints to the city or the light-blue sea are what to expect. If lucky, will see the red shanked douc monkeys, one of the rarest primates on the planet.
Da Nang to My Lai Massacre Village
My Lai Massacre Village (aka Son My Village or Pink Village) is 150 km south of Da Nang, 2,5 hours drive by new expressway. On 16 th March 1968, 504 unarmed inhabitants were killed by the American soldiers, and the world was shocked after pictures taken in this event were leaked. Until the end of the Vietnam war, it’s still the widest impact and best documented. In the burning village, a large memorial and new houses are built, and smiles are on the faces of locals. A day trip from Da Nang to here is a possibility. See tour option and travel guide in our article for My Lai Massacre Village.
Da Nang to Hill Tribe Villages
Section of the Annamite Range to the west of Da Nang is the traditional home of Katu people (aka Co Tu people). Their population nowadays is 74,000 people, living in both Vietnam and Laos. To introduce the culture, custom and lifestyle of this ethnic minority, there are some guided day tours arranged by local operators. Most of them are private, run by car or motorbike and provide a knowledgeable guide. Experts recommend a stay in the Katu family’s house if having time.
Trekking and Hiking
Bach ma national park trekking.
The best trekking trails near Da Nang are in Bach Ma National Park, some 60 km northwest of the downtown. This protection zone is home of wealthy ecosystems, old forests, nice weather (especially around its top) and very high waterfalls. In 20 th century, French colonists established a hill station in the highest elevations. It’s important for bird conservation, so it also attracts bird watchers all over the world, not just trekkers. See all information in our guide to trekking in Bach Ma National Park .

Perhaps the most famous day trip from Da Nang is to the Ba Na Hills theme park, and rightly so! A sprawling replica of a medieval village, the park is set atop Ba Na Hills mountain and is a must-visit for all ages and interests. A cable car ride takes you to the resort via the iconic and highly-Instagrammable Golden Bridge , one of the biggest highlights of Ba Na Hills that has taken social media by storm since opening in 2018. Set amidst forested hills and “held up” by giant concrete hand sculptures emerging from the ground, this 150-meter-long architectural marvel treats visitors to impressive views.
If that’s not enough, visit the Fantasy Park, where you’ll find rides, a dinosaur park, a climbing wall, wax museum, cinema, and arcade machines. Elsewhere in the resort, you can visit Linh Ung Pagoda, take in street performances, wander around the landscaped gardens, and try not to get lost in the maze! The replica French village is also a delight to wander around, and it’s a great reminder of Vietnam’s colorful history.

Suoi Hoa is an off-the-beaten-track destination, found en route to Ba Na Mountain. At present, it’s known by locals but rarely visited by tourists. The site is home to the Cu Tu ethnic minority group of people. The project is a successful attempt to open up a once-wild region to visitors, without encroaching upon the natural environment.
The main feature is a walk along the Mo River to the Toc Tien Waterfalls . A stone bridge has been erected to cross the main pool, and inflatables can be hired for a leisurely float! Close to the main pool, you can visit a scale model of a Cu Tu house and learn how the local people live.

UNESCO Heritage Site My Son Sanctuary , referred to as the “Ang Kor Wat of Vietnam”, was built by the Cham people who ruled over much of Central Vietnam from the 2nd century until the 17th century. Originally from Borneo, the Cham people are mostly Hindu and now make up one of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic minority groups.
Initially housing more than 70 separate temples and sculptures, My Son sadly suffered during Vietnam’s wars of unification and independence. 17 are still in place in their original form. Many of the surrounding ruins have been partly rebuilt thanks to a conservation project.
For centuries, My Son stood as a site for worship as well as a meeting place for the Cham leadership. Set in the midst of jungle-land, the sanctuary is a gateway to another world. Emerge from the brush and you’ll think you’ve just wandered onto the set of an Indiana Jones movie!
Those interested in Cham history can find out more in Da Nang’s Museum of Cham Culture or by visiting the wonderful Cham Island just across the water from Hoi An. Read our travel guide to Cham Island for more insight!

The Hai Van Pass is one of Vietnam’s most famous — and most thrilling — roads. It’s often taken as a scenic route when traveling between Da Nang and Hue, to the north. But if Hue is not on your agenda, the pass makes for a wonderful day trip. Use the picturesque Lang Co Beach as your final destination.
The pass itself is steeped in history, once dividing the Cham Kingdom from the Dai Viet — major empires that ruled over much of central and south Vietnam. At the top of the pass, you can stop to take in the panorama. Here, you’ll be standing right on the site of a former military base, used during the American War.
Your destination of Lang Co Beach not only offers some of the most beautiful sands to be found in Vietnam, but you can also take a hike to Elephant Falls . A forest walk with some scrambling on rocks, the path opens up with a host of pools in which to bathe. Even in the hottest weather, the water remains cool!
Distance from Da Nang: 40 kilometers
Address: Lang Co, Phu Loc, Thua Thien, Hue

8 Best Day Trips from Da Nang (From an Expat)
This article may contain affiliate links, meaning I make a small commission on any purchases at no extra expense to you. Read our disclaimer & privacy policy here.
Da Nang is easily one of the best places to visit in Central Vietnam, or if you ask me, one of the best places in the world to live abroad .
Whether you're moving to Vietnam like I did or will just be visiting Da Nang for a few days, you'll be pleasantly surprised by all the great things to do in the city. From watching the fire-breathing dragon bridge at night to going under ground at the Marble Mountains during the day. Not to mention the sheer amount of time you'll want to spend on the beautiful beaches that surround the city.
That being said, there are so many other great places to visit in Vietnam , it'd be a shame to miss out (if you have the time to spare).
These are my favorite day trips from Da Nang after living in the city for 2 years.
Short on time? Here's the cheat sheet:
🌍Day trips from Da Nang means immersing yourself into nature, history, and Vietnamese culture.
🏥Accidents happen so come prepared with nomad insurance , just in case!
💰In general, Da Nang and its day trips will be affordable but why not sweeten the deal? Earn travel rewards on all expenses with a Capital One Venture Card .
🛵If you’re comfortable driving, the best way to get around is by motorbike. Otherwise use Grab (like Uber) to get a taxi.
🎭Rather go with a guide? GetYourGuide , Viator , and Klook offer a wide variety of tours and activities to suit your schedule, budget, and interests.
⌛Have minimal time? My #1 day trip recommendation is to Hoi An, with a stop for a drink at An Bang Beach either on the way there or back.

- Travel Time From Da Nang: 40 minutes
- Why Visit: To visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site
- What to Do: Stroll the yellow alleyways, get custom clothes made, enjoy the lantern-lit streets at night
- Who It's Best For: Photographers, shoppers, and those interested by culture
Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one I'm sure you've seen grace your IG feed more than once. This yellow-walled town is seriously something special and is well worth the short drive from Da Nang.
Hoi An can get really crowded, especially during peak season and in the evenings but I still think it's worth visiting. If you're willing to wake up early, this is the best time to wander the streets without too many others.
One of the best things to do in Hoi An is to get custom clothes made. Do some research and reach out on expat Facebook pages before you visit to get recommendations of which shops to visit. Years and plenty of washes later, I still wear clothes that I got on my 1st trip to Hoi An before even moving to Da Nang.
Plus, most people only think Hoi An is the few small alleyways right in the center of Old Town but really there's so much more to it than that. The outskirts of town, where the rice fields become your only view, is one of the best places to live in Vietnam for expats and digital nomads that want a calm livelihood.
Where to Stay in Hoi An
Turn your day trip into an overnight one to enjoy extended time in Hoi An. By staying here, you can easily combine this with visits to the Cham Islands, Tam Thanh, or An Bang Beach.
📍I recommend these hotels, based on your budget:
- Budget Option: Square Villa Hoi An : If you want to enjoy early quiet mornings in Hoi An, this location will allow you to quickly get to Old Town on foot to beat the crowds.
- Mid-Tier Option: Little Gem : Stay a little farther from Old Town to soak up more of the quiet side of Hoi An at this eco-friendly boutique hotel and spa.
- Luxury Option: La Charm Hoi An Hotel & Spa : Enjoy a pool, spa, and breakfast buffet when you book your stay at this luxury hotel right in the heart of Hoi An.
2. An Bang Beach
- Travel Time From Da Nang: 30 minutes
- Why Visit: To enjoy more beachfront bars and restaurants
- What to Do: Swim, sunbathe, eat, and drink
- Who It's Best For: Those that enjoy beachfront meals and variety in beaches
An Bang Beach is the last beach town you'll get to before turning inland towards Hoi An. If you only have time for 1 day trip from Da Nang, you can combine a stop here with your trip to Hoi An. If you have time for more outings, you could easily spend a day at each.
An Bang is a fantastic beach that has loads of beach clubs, bars, and restaurants right on the sand. The main entrance to the beach is where most of the beach restaurants are but turning off that main street, you'll find plenty of other coffee shops and places to eat.
When living in Da Nang, I loved bringing my computer to work from An Bang Beach. The Sound of Silence coffee shop was one of my favorite places there with their indoor and outdoor options for working.
While you might be thinking, why would I travel to a beach when I have plenty of sandy options right in Da Nang? Really though, they're completely different places with Da Nang as a city and An Bang as a sleepy beach town.
Where to Stay in An Bang Beach
📍Turn your day trip into an overnight one to enjoy extended time in An Bang Beach. I recommend these hotels, based on your budget:
- Budget Option: Hai An Villa : Enjoy a quick walk to the beach, a shared swimming pool, and a deluxe private room that won't break the bank.
- Mid-Tier Option: KA Villa : Get even closer to the sandy shores at this hotel that also offers a swimming pool in a scenic center courtyard.
- Luxury Option: CHiEM HoiAn : Want a bigger room and luxury amenities? Go for the sea view room that also includes a tasty breakfast.
3. Ba Na Hills
- Travel Time From Da Nang: 1 hr 20 min
- Why Visit: For the Golden Hands Bridge
- What to Do: Pose for pictures, enjoy the European Village, and ride on some park rides
- Who It's Best For: Families and those motivated by photography
Another that I'm sure you've seen on social media but might not have realized it is Ba Na Hills. This theme park is home to the Golden Hands Bridge.
You might think this famous golden bridge is all that there is to see or do here, you'd be wrong.
Ba Na Hills is actually a theme park that has a European village, a huge arcade, a handful of bars and restaurants, and some amusement park rides to choose from. There are a handful of guided tours to Ba Na Hills or you can just buy your ticket in advance to avoid the line.
To get to the park, you'll need to take a super long cable car but lucky for you, you'll get to soak up stunning landscapes along the way.
I've heard from others that Ba Na Hills can get just as crowded as Hoi An. I, by chance, went on a day that started raining. While it meant that the rides closed down, we practically had the park to ourselves. We were wet but had a really fun time.
If you get a taxi or Grab to Ba Na Hills, be sure to ask the driver to wait on you to drive you back to Da Nang. Most will agree (but ask in advance just to be sure) and that way you don't have to search for a ride from there which can be really hard to find.
Where to Stay in Ba Na Hills
📍Turn your day trip into an overnight one to enjoy extended time around Ba Na Hills. This is ideal if you're a golfer as they have one of the few courses in the area. I recommend these hotels, based on your budget:
- Budget Option: Family Home Villa : Enjoy your own private tiny home surrounded by nature at this pet-friendly property just minutes away from Ba Na Hills.
- Mid-Tier Option: Ebisu Onsen Resort : This resort is the perfect option for couples looking to really relax. If you've never been to an onsen, you'll love this spa experience.
- Luxury Option: Mercure Danang French Village : Why just spend a day at Ba Na Hills if you can spend the night? Stay at the European Village and enjoy great views, a swimming pool, and stunning rooms.
4. Cham Island
- Travel Time From Da Nang: Around 1hr
- Why Visit: Picturesque scenery and quiet beaches
- What to Do: Sunbathe, swim, snorkel, explore the island
- Who It's Best For: Low-key travelers that prefer off-the-beaten-path destinations
Cham Island is located just off the coast of Hoi An. To get there, you'd first need to get to Hoi An and then a boat to the islands. You can take the public ferry, like we did, or book the fast boat or a tour operator.
If you're going to turn this day trip into an overnight one, you'll be just fine on the public ferry. If you're just going for a day trip, you might prefer a tour to get there quicker and with a guide to take you to snorkel or scuba dive.
For me, the beauty of the Cham Islands was staying on them. We rented a motorbike and spent our weekend hopping around along the beaches, some even with monkeys, and reading our books with spectacular views of the ocean from the balcony of our homestay.
Just know that although the island is small, it's a bit too far to walk to too many of the beaches and you'll prefer to have a motorbike if you really want to explore.
Where to Stay on Cham Island
📍Turn your day trip into an overnight one to enjoy extended time in the Cham Islands. I recommend these hotels, based on your budget:
- Budget Option: Cham Island Smiles Homestay : Situated farther down the island that the town, Smiles gives you the chance to live, eat, and connect with a local family.
- Mid-Tier Option: Chàm’s Corner Lookout Homestay & Restaurant : For those that prefer an elevated experience right in town, this homestay is cute, cozy, and highly recommended.
- Luxury Option: Crest House Beachside : Traveling with a larger group? This 3-bedroom private house is just a quick walk from the beach.
5. Son Tra Peninsula
- Travel Time From Da Nang: 20 minutes to Lady Buddha, adding time from there depending on your route around the peninsula
- Why Visit: Wildlife spotting and fantastic nature
- What to Do: Visit Linh Ung Pagoda, explore via motorbike, lounge at small beaches, enjoy panoramic views
- Who It's Best For: Nature enthusiasts, hikers, photographers, and adventure enthusiasts
A trip to Son Tra Peninsula, or Monkey Mountain, can be as short or as time consuming as you want it to be. You could easily go up to the Lady Buddha Statue, officially the Linh Ung Pagoda, for an hour or two and come back to the city or you could take your time, complete the motorbike loop, stopping at beaches and lookout points along the way.
Whatever adventure you're after, you can find it on the Son Tra Peninsula.
Just know that to drive the full loop, you'll need to have a semi-automatic or manual bike. Some of the hills are super steep and require you to have more power than an automatic. I also suggest that you're a confident driver as the turns can be sharp, the hills can be steep, and monkeys might pop out from nowhere.
Do your best to keep your eyes out for the endangered Red Shanked Doucs who call Son Tra home. There are tours that will take you on nature walks to look for them but each time I went to Son Tra on my own, I was able to spot a few. If you're not confident to drive yourself, you can book a monkey spotting tour with a local guide .
Where to Stay on Son Tra Peninsula
There are a few places to stay near the Linh Ung Pagoda but for a truly unforgettable experience, I recommend booking a stay at the stunning InterContinental Hotel . This hotel will immerse you into nature, provide you with a private beach, and even offers transportation if you don't want to drive yourself.
6. Hai Van Pass
- Travel Time From Da Nang: 50 minutes to highest point
- Why Visit: Scenic views and fun roads to drive on
- What to Do: Learn more about the American War, take plenty of pictures, and enjoy a scenic drive
- Who It's Best For: Adventure seekers, photographers, road trip enthusiasts
The Hai Van Pass is one of the most beautiful roads in the world, if you ask me. This is part of the road that stretches from Da Nang to Hue but the pass is specifically the area that crosses the peninsula between the north of Da Nang and Lang Co.
There are plenty of tour operators that'll take you on a motorbike ride but if you can drive, I recommend driving yourself. The roads are windy and a lot of fun. There are plenty of coffee shops to stop along the way to take your time and soak up the view.
The main viewpoint is at the highest point, at the Hai Van Quan ruins, but the drive down either side is spectacular with jungle and sea views all around. If you're not comfortable driving yourself, hire a driver so all you need to do is sit back and relax.
There's also a train that goes from Da Nang to Hue so if you prefer, you can take the train all the way to the Imperial City instead.
Travel Time for Hai Van Pass: 20 minutes
Once you reach the highest lookout point, many turn around and head back to Da Nang. You can certainly choose to do that but if you have an extra hour or so to spare, I would continue down to Lang Co.
This is another sleepy beach town that has fantastic seafood restaurants. Plus, the drive down to Lang Co and the view from the beach there is really stunning. Just be sure to leave with enough time to drive back to Da Nang in daylight unless you plan to stay the night in Lang Co.
Where to Stay in Lang Co
📍There aren't too many places to stay in Lang Co but that doesn't mean it isn't worth the night, especially to give yourself more time to enjoy the Hai Van Pass. I recommend booking your stay at B&H Villa . The small garden rooms offer privacy and serenity.
Travel Time for Hai Van Pass: 1hr 30 mins
From Lang Co you can keep going even farther and get all the way to Hue, the Imperial City of Vietnam. As the ancient capital of Vietnam, Hue has a lot of history to soak up. Luckily much of it is still intact and what didn't survive the war, they've worked hard to rebuild.
There are plenty of moments, ancient burial sites of the emperors of Vietnam, but if you're short on time, head directly to the Imperial City itself. The grounds there are impressive. If you opt to go on a guided tour to Hue , they’ll take you to a few of the most important sights.
Hue is known as one of the culinary capitals of Vietnam so be sure to try loads of different Vietnamese dishes while there and wash it all down with a salt coffee. Trust me, it's better than it sounds!
Where to Stay in Hue
📍Turn your day trip into an overnight one to enjoy extended time in Hue. I recommend these hotels, based on your budget:
- Budget Option: Purple Hue Central Hub : When my husband and I visited Hue, this is the hotel we stayed in. It was fantastic for the price point.
- Mid-Tier Option: The Scarlett Boutique Hotel : Enjoy a great area of town and a friendly staff that’ll help you plan your trip and give you plenty of local tips.
- Luxury Option: Melia Vinpearl Hue : If you stay here, do it for the view. Some of the rooms offer sweeping views of the city, making your stay in Hue even more memorable.
7. My Son Sanctuary
- Travel Time From Da Nang: 1hr
- Why Visit: To see the ancient ruins from the Cham People
- What to Do: Walk around the complex and learn about the Champa Kingdom
- Who It's Best For: History buffs, culture enthusiasts, architecture aficionados.
My Son Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage Site left by the Cham People who used to rule Central Vietnam. You can think of this area as a small Angkor Wat.
Some of the temples were destroyed in the war but they've left the bomb craters so their far off and recent history can live on together.
There are tours that you can take to My Son Sanctuary but we decided to go on our own. We read a lot on the area and enjoyed roaming the jungle and spotting the ruins on our own. For bigger history buffs, you might prefer the guide but for us, doing it on our own was enough.
Where to Stay Around My Son
📍There aren't too many places to stay near My Son but if you'd like to stay nearby and soak up the mountain views for more time, I recommend booking your stay at My Son Heritage Resort and Spa . This resort has so many amenities, you'll be tempted to spend all of your time here instead of out and about exploring.
8. Tam Thanh
- Travel Time From Da Nang: 1hr 15 minutes
- Why Visit: To enjoy the mural village and the beaches
- What to Do: Pose for pictures at the murals, sunbathe, go swimming
- Who It's Best For: Art lovers and those that prefer off-the-beaten-path destinations
Tam Thanh is a much lesser known day trip from Da Nang but a great place for those that prefer to get off the beaten path.
This small beach town is just south of Hoi An, outside of the bigger city, Tam Ky. Besides the beaches, what makes Tam Thanh somewhere worth visiting is their murals, giving Tam Thanh the nickname, Mural Village.
If you love street art, you'll love roaming the town of Tam Thanh and posing in front of each of the brightly colored murals.
Where to Stay in Tam Thanh
📍Turn your day trip into an overnight one to enjoy extended time in Tam Thanh. I recommend these hotels, based on your budget:
- Budget Option: Golden Lantern Homestay : This beachfront homestay is no frills but ideal for a quiet, cultural experience.
- Mid-Tier Option: You Retreat : Get more space and have your own apartment beachfront at this pet-friendly 1-bedroom with a kitchen.
- Luxury Option: TUI BLUE Nam : Stretching across a wide area, this beachfront resort offers everything you could want in a luxurious stay, just north of the center of Tam Thanh.
Things to Know Before You Go
Before we dive into the good stuff, there are a few things to know that'll help you plan your trips from Da Nang with ease.
I know just how easy it is to look towards the big hike, bucket list city, or beach of my dreams and forget about all of the little things in between that’ll make your trip run as smoothly as possible. Be sure to take into consideration these few things before you go to make sure you get all the good bits of your trip without the stress.
- The best times of the year to visit are anytime other than September, October, and November . This is typhoon season so the rain can get pretty hectic in these months, forcing you to cancel any plans you might have. It's hot year round in Da Nang, with the peak tourist season around July and August. December, January, and February are much cooler months, perfect for exploring but not the best for swimming.
- Make sure you have travel insurance . A good travel insurance, like SafetyWing , will ensure you’re covered in case of emergencies. While you will have to pay upfront for your doctor or hospital costs, unless it’s for a pre-existing condition, you can file a claim and should be reimbursed. For any Americans reading this, fear not, healthcare in pretty much every other country is far more affordable than ours, even if you’re paying out of pocket.
- Do your best to learn a few local phrases in Vietnam . No, I’m not expecting you to be able to have a fluid conversation with locals at the bus stop if you’re just visiting their country for a week but knowing your numbers (for prices), how to order something (“I would like…”), and basic greetings really will take you a long way. Mondly is a great app for phrases and vocabulary.
- Book any popular tours you want to do in advance . I’m really not a great planner and I’ve made this mistake more times than I can count. I plan a trip to a destination knowing that I want to do a sailboat trip or food tour and wait until the day before to book only to realize it’s not available the day I’m in town. GetYourGuide , Viator , and Klook offer a wide variety of tours and activities to suit your schedule, budget, and interests.
- Getting from Point A to Point B . I wouldn't recommend renting a car or a motorbike unless you're a confident driver and familiar with Vietnamese traffic. If you are, a motorbike is by far the best way to get to these day trips. If you aren't, consider hiring a taxi, a tour, or the local bus.
- Before you start booking your flights, hotels, and tours, consider opening up a travel credit card . Thanks to our Capital One Venture card , my husband and I have gotten countless free flights just by gaining points on everyday expenses. This tip certainly isn’t mandatory but it is helpful.
Where to Stay in Da Nang
Before you can get too excited about all the day trips from Da Nang you'll embark on, make sure you book a nice, centrally located place to stay. While there are loads of great Da Nang neighborhoods to choose from, if you're just in town for a few days, staying in the center will be easiest.
I'd recommend staying in the heart of the action at one of these hotels:
- Budget Option: Sofiana My Khe Hotel & Spa : Like any good hotel in Da Nang, you’ll get a rooftop view and a trendy room just 2 blocks from My Khe Beach.
- Mid-Range Option: Stella Maris Beach Danang : Located a bit more north but still on the beach, Stella still offers the view and the pool but in a more modern environment outside of the heart of the tourist area.
- Luxury Option: Sala Danang Beach Hotel : Situated near Stella Maris, this hotel also offers a swimming pool and stunning views but the standards continue to rise here.
Which Day Trip from Da Nang Will You Go On?
With so many great day trips from Da Nang to choose from, it can be hard to pick just one. If you have very limited time, my favorite day trips are Hoi An, An Bang Beach, Son Tra Peninsula, and the Hai Van Pass.
See? Impossible to pick just one!
You might just fall in love with this area so much that you'll decide to try living in Da Nang just like I did. With so many things to do and must-visit spots, you'll quickly see why so many people decide to stay in Da Nang for longer than just a few days.
But, even if that's all the time you have, make use of it and enjoy as many Da Nang day trips as you can!

Travelling on a package tour, you don’t have to prepare as much for the tour as you would when travelling on your own. The problem is that you have to choose a reputable travel company with guaranteed service. During the tour, the organization will take care of everything, you just have to coordinate for a smooth and happy journey. However, if you choose this form, it will be limited in terms of time.
If you organize yourself, things will be more difficult, you have to worry and prepare to book services such as air tickets, train tickets, accommodation services, hotels, meals … Especially it will be quite difficult towels in the peak tourist season.

Ensure the tour aligns with your interests (cultural, adventure, relaxation) . Da Nang is a canvas of diverse experiences, and aligning your tour with your interests is crucial. Are you an adrenaline junkie, a history aficionado, or a soul-seeking serenity?
Making the Most of Your Da Nang Tour
Here are some tips to elevate your Da Nang tour from memorable to unforgettable.
1. Engage with local guides for insider tips and stories.
Local guides are your compass to the heart of Da Nang. Their insights and stories breathe life into the places you visit. I still chuckle when I recall a guide recounting tales of mischievous monkeys at the Marble Mountains, adding a layer of whimsy to the majestic scenery.
2. Respect local customs and traditions.
Embracing the local customs is a step towards a more authentic and respectful travel experience. A simple bow or a polite “xin chào” can go a long way.
3. Try local delicacies and immerse yourself in the culinary scene.
The flavors of Da Nang are as diverse as its landscapes. From the spicy tang of mì quảng to the sweet, creamy taste of Da Nang’s coconut coffee , every bite is a journey.
I still dream of the bustling street food markets, each stall a haven of authentic Vietnamese flavors waiting to be explored.
The essence of a fulfilling Da Nang tour lies in the blend of exploration, respect, and indulgence. Choosing the right tour is your first step into a world brimming with cultural riches, natural wonders, and culinary delights. It’s about crafting a narrative that resonates with the rhythm of Da Nang, a narrative that will linger in your memories.

Da Nang Itinerary Overview
Before we jump into this Da Nang itinerary, let’s do a quick overview to help you plan your visit.
If you are wondering: “ How many days is enough in Da Nang, Vietnam?”
Although many people only choose to spend a day or two in Da Nang this city has so much to offer. For the best experience, you’ll want to spend at 3 days in Da Nang, and even more, if you’re using this place as a base to take some day trips.
What are the best day trips from Da Nang?
Both Hue and Hoi An can be visited on a day trip . So if you’re not planning to stay in those cities you can visit them from Da Nang. However, you’re going to want to spend a full day (or near enough) at each. If that’s the case, allow at least five days here so you’re not rushing around! That will give you plenty of time to visit all the places in this Da Nang itinerary!
What to book in advance for your Danang Itinerary?
I recommend o book some tours in advance. Da Nang is a popular destination in Vietnam for a reason. Many attractions will have long lines, and some need to be booked in advance.
✨ Da Nang and Hoi An Private Tour : I highly recommend booking this tour. You can explore Da Nang and Hoi An without a crowded tour bus.
✨ Marble Mountains & Son Tra Peninsula Tour from Da Nang : This is a must-do tour, where you will visit the Marble Mountains to see the pagoda and hidden caves and grottoes. Plus you will enjoy views of Vietnam’s coast and visit the Son Tra Peninsula.
✨ Ba Na Hills with Golden Bridge Private Tour : The Golden Bridge is the highlight of Danang, and you cannot miss it. with this tour, you will skip the lines and the crowds.
Top 15 Things To Do for your Da Nang Itinerary
1. admire lady buddha.
✨ Suggested Tour: Da Nang: Lady Buddha, Monkey Mountain, and Am Phu Cave Tour .
Lady Buddha is the tallest Buddha statue in the country so as you can imagine, it’s pretty impressive! The statue is located on the Son Tra Peninsula and is just 8.5 miles (14 km) from the city center of Da Nang.
Boasting a height of nearly 220 feet (67 meters) and a diameter of 114 feet (35 meters), its size is the equivalent of a 30-story building. Now, that’s something you don’t see every day! Due to its sea-facing location, you’ll get impressive views of the surrounding area. If it’s a clear day, you’ll even get striking views of Son Tra, The Marble Mountains, and Da Nang city.
This fantastic tour will take you to the Lady Buddha, as well as Monkey Mountain and Am Phu Cave. It includes lunch, hotel pick-up and drop-off, some entrance fees, and an English-speaking guide!
2. Head to Ba Na Hills
✨ Suggested Tour: Ba Na Hills with Golden Bridge Private Tour .
Ba Na Hills is a must for any Da Nang itinerary so don’t leave this place off your list. It’s part of the Sun World Amusement Group and is located on top of a mountain that sits around 4878 feet (1487 meters) above sea level. Aside from the mesmerizing views, there are plenty of fun activities to do up here.
For starters, this is where you’ll find the iconic ‘Golden Hands’ or Golden Bridge that’s taken over Instagram. There’s also an awesome cable car ride that you’ll take to the top, and you can visit the miniature French village too!
When it comes to visiting Ba Na Hills independently you can either catch a taxi or shuttle bus. Your other option is to take a tour and there are plenty of options! This Private tour includes an English-speaking guide that will make your trip truly memorable. Or, you’ve got this Ba Na hills tour that includes a buffet lunch.
3. Relax on My Khe Beach
If you’re heading to Da Nang for a beach vacation then you won’t be short of options. Some of the best beaches in the area include Non-Nuoc, Bac My An, Son Tra, and Thanh Binh. However, My Khe Beach is by far the most popular!
It’s a lot more developed than many of the other beaches in the area. This is due to American soldiers seeking some R&R here whilst fighting in the Vietnam-US War.
Boasting pristine white sands, crystal-clear (and warm) waters, and swaying palm trees, it’s the definition of tropical paradise. Whether you’re just looking to glimpse at its beauty, or you’d prefer to spend a few hours here, this isn’t a place you want to leave off your Da Nang itinerary!
You’ll generally find that most hotels are located in this area so you’ll have easy access to My Khe Beach. Unlike many of the beaches in Southeast Asia, it’s free to visit and extremely clean. If you don’t have the chance to visit Mui Ne , then this is the place to visit for some beach time.
4. Wander around the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture
Visiting the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture is one of the best things to do in the city. The museum was built in the early 1900s and is home to the largest collection of Cham sculptures and artwork on Earth. Now, that’s a pretty big reason to visit so don’t leave it off your Da Nang itinerary!
For those who don’t know, the Kingdom of Champa used to control South and Central Vietnam until 1697. In the late 15th century, the Champa empire declined and was eventually dissolved in 1832.
What remains can be found in this museum, and there are nearly 300 sculptural works to be seen here. This date back to between the 7th and 15th centuries so you’ll be admiring a part of Vietnam’s history.
Upon your visit to the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, you can purchase an English-language guidebook that will help to explain the importance of the sculptures.
5. Take a day trip to the Marble Mountains
✨ Suggested Tour: Marble Mountains – Hoi An Ancient Town Daily Ingroup Tour
The Marble Mountains are one of the most impressive sights you’ll see in Vietnam, let alone just Da Nang. Made up of five separate limestone mountains, this wonderful place is an easy day trip from the city. This makes it a must for any Da Nang itinerary!
The five Marble Mountains are named after the five elements (metal, water, wood, fire, and earth). They hold special significance to the people of Vietnam as they’re known to be a spiritual site!
To climb to the top, you’ll have to walk up a fair few stairs. However, the views from the top are certainly worth it. You can also explore the network of caves that are found underneath, with Huyen Khong being the largest of the caves. I wrote this whole article on how to explore Marble Mountain if you are interested in more information.
If you’d prefer not to visit on your own then you can take a tour of the Marble Mountains . You’ll get to explore this spectacular wonder, before heading to Hoi An Ancient Town. This way, all your transport is included and your dinner is too!
6. Walk over the Dragon bridge
No Danang itinerary is complete without walking over the city’s iconic Dragon Bridge. This is one of the coolest bridges you’ll ever see, as if you hadn’t guessed by the name – it depicts a flying dragon. The design of this dragon was inspired by the Ly dynasty and is an epic sight to see.
The Dragon Bridge spans across the Han River and is an impressive 2,185 feet (666 meters) long. There are six vehicle lanes and two lanes for pedestrians so it’s very wide, and it’s thought to have cost around $88 million which is crazy!
The incredible design isn’t the only thing that draws people to the Dragon Bridge. This bridge is home to 15,000 LED lights and is lit up at night time, which is one of the best times to visit. If you’re in Da Nang on a Saturday or Sunday, then you’re in for an even more magical experience. On the weekends at 9 pm, the bridge has a fire and water performance where the dragon breathes fire!
7. Admire the views from Sơn Trà Mountain
✨ Suggested Tour: Marble Mountains & Son Tra Peninsula Tour from Da Nang .
Son Tra Mountain is located out on the Son Tra Peninsula and is also known as Monkey Mountain. Often referred to as the ‘Green Lung of Da Nang’ this towering mountain is covered in the lush forest so it’s undeniably beautiful.
The Mountain is located at around 2,2800 feet (695 meters) above sea level so as you can imagine, the views from the top are rather impressive. Not only will you be treated to striking views of Da Nang, but you’ll get to admire the city’s breathtaking coastline too. During your time here, you’ll also want to leave some time free to visit some of the attractions including the iconic Lady Buddha.
This amazing 4-hour tour will not only take you to the Marble Mountains but you’ll get to explore the Son Tra Peninsula. Here, you’ll get to admire the impressive views, visit Lady Buddha, and marvel at Son Tra Linh Ung Pagoda!
8. Drive some of the iconic Hai Van Pass
✨ Suggested Tour: Your Incredible Scooter Adventure On Hai Van Pass .
The Hai Van Pass is one of the most scenic roads in Vietnam making it a must for any Da Nang itinerary. Known as the ‘Ocean Cloud Pass’, this road is a 21 km long pass that connects Hue and Da Nang. Aside from getting spectacular sea views, the pass also runs through the Annamite Range.
This road has become a popular tourist attraction and many people choose to hire a scooter so they can drive part of the pass. Due to a new road being built in 2005, you won’t experience much traffic along this route either which is always a bonus.
For those who are experienced in driving a scooter, you can head out on this Hai Van Pass adventure if you don’t fancy taking on the drive by yourself. Or, this tour also includes a private scooter driver if you’d prefer to sit in the back seat. Either way, this isn’t an experience you want to miss.
9. Try a cooking class
✨ Suggested Tour: Da Nang Home Cooking Class .
If there’s one thing Vietnam is known for it’s its delicious food, and Da Nang is no different! You’ll find endless restaurants in the city so there are lots of foodie options. Two of the most popular dishes are Banh Nam and Banh Bot Loc – both are a kind of rice dumpling cake.
However, to make the most of your foodie experience in Da Nang you’ll want to take a cooking class and there are plenty of options!
This unique home cooking class is a great choice as it’s run by a local family so offers a very authentic experience. During this class, you’ll get to visit a market to pick up fresh ingredients, and then you’ll cook four Vietnamese dishes. You’ll also get to try the local coffee!
One of the best things about this tour is that it’s limited to 9 people so you won’t have to worry about an overcrowded experience. If you’ve got the time, I’d recommend including a cooking class on your Da Nang itinerary!
10. Have some fun at Asia Park
Asia Park is another quirky theme park that’s owned by the Sun World Group. It’s located on the edge of the Han River and is known for its iconic attractions, cool rides, and diverse cuisine.
The park is split up into three main zones; a modern outdoor park, a cultural park, and the Sun Wheel – one of the city’s most popular attractions! It marks the entrance to Asia Park and is one of the highest Ferris wheels in the world at an impressive 377 feet (115 meters) high. The views from the top are incredible, and the wheel is also lit up at night.
Another popular area of this theme park is the Cultural Park which features replicas of cultural landmarks and historical sites from all over Asia! If you’re simply looking to have some fun, then there are a couple of rides to try out too.
The park is open from 3 pm – 10 pm as its primary focus is children. Just keep that in mind, because you won’t be able to visit in the morning or during midday which many people usually do with theme parks!
11. Take a day trip to My Son
✨ Suggested Tour: My Son Sanctuary Tour from Da Nang
There are plenty of day trip opportunities from this coastal city, but a visit to My Son is a must for any Da Nang itinerary! My Son Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s situated within a rainforest.
Built between the 4th and 13th centuries CE, this place offers you the chance to explore Vietnam’s history. At around 1600 years old, these ruins show the influence of the Champa Kingdom and you’ll get to see this through the impressive tower temples that remain.
My Son actually used to have around 70 structures. These were mostly dedicated to the deities of Krishna, Shiva, and Vishnu. Unfortunately, most of the temples here were destroyed during the Vietnam War. However, some of the structures still remain to this day, and here you can find the complete guide on how to visit My Son .
This 5-hour My Son Tour includes pick-up and drop-off in Da Nang, transportation, and entrance fees. You’ll also have an English-speaking guide if you’re looking to learn more about this wonderful place!
12. Explore the Imperial City of Hue on a tour
✨ Suggested Tour: Imperial City, Hue: Tour from Hoi An and Da Nang .
Hue is another popular city in Vietnam, and many people choose to stay here for 2-3 days. However, if you’re short of time then you can always visit on a day trip!
You’ll find plenty of awesome things to do here like visiting the abandoned waterpark, exploring the Mausoleum of Emperor Khai Dinh, and admiring Thien Mu Pagoda. You’ve also got the Mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc and the Perfume River!
However, the city’s most famous attraction is the Imperial Citadel, or the ‘Imperial City’ as it’s also known. It’s an enclosed city within Hue itself and was once the imperial capital of the country during the Nguyễn dynasty. Inside, you’ll find so much to explore but don’t forget about the Purple Forbidden City!
This very cool 10-hour tour includes pick-up in Da Nang and transport to Hue, where you’ll get to see the very best of this Imperial City. Firstly, you’ll drive to Hue along the iconic Hai Van Pass. Then, you’ll visit some of the city’s most popular attractions like the Imperial Citadel and Thien Mu Pagoda.
13. Go snorkeling at Cham Island
✨ Suggested Tour: Cham Island: Underwater Walking & Snorkeling Tour
If you’re looking to escape the city then why not take a day trip out to the Cham Islands? This area is recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and is home to a wealth of marine life and an abundance of coral reefs.
This makes it the place to visit if you’re looking to snorkel or admire the area’s wildlife. Not only that, but this island is undeniably beautiful with pristine white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush vegetation.
Although the Cham Islands are located off the coast of Hoi An, this snorkeling tour will pick you up in Da Nang. You’ll then be taken to the islands on a traditional Vietnamese boat. Whilst on the island, you can snorkel, dive, try underwater walking or simply relax in the hammocks. The choice is yours!
If you’ve got some extra time in Da Nang, then I’d definitely consider heading to this tropical paradise!
14. Admire the architecture of Da Nang Cathedral
Da Nang Cathedral is one of the most beautiful religious buildings you’ll come across in Vietnam. It was the only church built here during the French colonial period, so as you can imagine the architecture is unique. This cathedral has been around since 1924 and is in fantastic condition considering the subsequent wars that would follow.
The first thing you’ll notice about Da Nang Cathedral is that it’s pink! In fact, it gives off very similar vibes to Tan Dinh Church in Ho Chi Minh City ! Although the exterior is extremely impressive, make sure you head inside too if the church is open.
Boasting breathtaking stained glass windows, engraved motifs, and impressive statues that depict events from the Bible, there’s so much to see here. Even better, the cathedral is free to enter but you’ll want to research the mass times before your visit.
✨ Suggested Tour: Da Nang and Hoi An Private Tour .
If you’re not planning to stay in Hoi An then you should definitely include a day trip on your Danang itinerary! This city was once an ancient trading port that used to link China and Japan with the rest of Asia, and there’s still evidence of this port today. Considering this trading port dates back to the 15th and 19th centuries – that’s pretty impressive.
The most popular area to visit is the Old Quarter. Here, you’ll find ancient yellow buildings, colorful lanterns, and stone roads making it extremely charming. You can also head to one of the tailor shops, take a boat trip along the Thu Bon River, or visit the Precious Heritage Project!
If you’re looking for an organized trip then you should check out this private tour ! Not only will it show you around Da Nang, but you’ll also head to Hoi An. During the tour, you’ll get to explore the Ancient Town, hit some of the nearby stalls, and taste some delicious food.

Best Accommodations for your Danang Itinerary
Vietnam as a whole is extremely affordable and that goes for Da Nang too. There are endless accommodation options in this coastal city, so no matter your budget you’ll be able to find something that suits your needs.
For the shoestring travelers out there, you can find accommodation for as little as $9. That’s often for a private room too! Mid-range accommodation tends to cost around $40-60, whilst luxury hotels are still extremely affordable. In fact, you can get a beautiful room in a 5* hotel for as little as $70 .
TOP OVERALL PICK : Sel de Mer Hotel & Suites
Rated: 9.0 Superb
This beautiful 5* hotel offers gorgeous suites, reasonable room rates, and fantastic facilities. During your stay here, you can even make use of the free salt sauna and steam bath. Don’t forget the striking sea views either!
BUDGET: Raon Danang Beach
Rated: 9.2 Superb
This is one of the best options for budget travelers as the rooms are spacious and beautiful, but above all extremely cheap! Not only is there an indoor swimming pool, but there’s a tour desk at the property where you can learn about the local activities.
MID RANGE: Sala Danang Beach Hotel
Boasting stunning sea views, a variety of room options, and a great location, you couldn’t ask for anything more! This hotel also has plenty of great facilities including a swimming pool, fitness center, spa, restaurant, and bar.
LUXURY: Meliá Vinpearl Danang Riverfront
Rated: 8.7 Fabulous
Aside from its stunning location, Meliá Vinpearl has a lot to offer. With four on-site restaurants, an outdoor pool, a rooftop bar, and a spa, this gorgeous hotel has all the facilities you could dream of. Some of the suites even offer striking river views!
How to Get Around Danang
First of all, you’ll need to reach the city. Now, you can either travel overland from some of the other cities or fly to Da Nang International Airport. If you opt for the latter, then you can either catch a taxi or bus into the city center.
If you’d prefer to have your transport organized in advance, you can book a private shuttle . This is especially handy after a long flight, and you won’t have to barter down your taxi price in the airport.
Once you’ve arrived in the city and found your accommodation, there are a couple of ways to get around the city. One of the most popular ways to get around is b y taxi or motorcycle taxi, but you may need to negotiate the price.
There are a couple of public bus routes you can use but this method of transport isn’t advanced, not compared to the likes of Hanoi or Hoi Chi Minh anyway. Lastly, you can rent a motorbike for a couple of days if you wish – this will be especially handy, as some of the sights in this article are located out of the city.
Best Time to Visit Da Nang, Vietnam
The best time to visit Da Nang is considered to be January-May as this is when the Dry Season takes place . The Dry Season actually lasts until August but in the months running up to it, temperatures can reach up to 104°F (40°C). Due to the intense heat and humidity, you’ll want to visit before this if possible.
Between January and May, the temperature fluctuates between 68-91°F (20-33°C) with higher temperatures being encountered during March and May. Before these months, the climate is relatively cold and dry and you won’t encounter too much rain either.
The Wet Season in Da Nang falls between September to December and is generally split into three phases. September is the month for typhoons, while October and November encounter the most rainfall. If you’re traveling at this time of year, then December is by far the best time to visit during the wet season!
Da Nang Itinerary Conclusion

2 thoughts on “da nang itinerary: 15 epic things to do + expert tips [2024]”.
My daughter and I have four days in HCM and four days in Da Nang (early November). As I’m 79 I am not sure the tunnels would be that suitable! Any tips please. Last year we visited Hanoi and Sapa and Halong Bay and went to the all day Sunday market boardering China. Truly amazing. We loved Vietnam and its people so much and that is why we are doing a little of the Southern part.
Hey Jennie, it is so great you loved Vietnam so much that you are going back to explore more. I loved Vietnam too. I still recommend the tunnels as it is a very educational place to visit, even if you decide not to go inside the tunnel, which you won’t be missing anything, since you only get to see a small part of it. But you still can learn from the site and how the lived there during the war. I recommend you take the tour on the Mekong Delta, as you will also get to see many interesting sites, and the river market. Safe Travels,

We had a wonderful vacation, with the enthusiasm of the coordinators, who always reminded us about the time and necessary notes for the trip. The tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, everything made us feel very comfortable. However, it's just that the weather isn't good, but that's natural so we'll consider it a memorable experience
Cycling Vietnam: Hoi An package 5 days
We had an excellent biking tour experience in Vietnam. Our guide Mai Thieu was fantastic. He took us all around the Hoi An area, through quiet villages, rice fields, and beautiful countryside. All the journeys were on back roads and quiet paths away from busy streets. Thieu's local knowledge was extensive, and he knew just where to take us for amazing meals and local delicacies. We can't wait to come back for more!

Was a great experience! Thank you
Our guide Mai Thieu was fabulous and meant we had a great time and saw parts of Hoi A that we would not have accessed on our own. He was the perfect guide and happy to match the riding to our needs.
