Featured Highlights
Dramatic scenery.
You’re constantly aware of the power of nature in Hawaii, where the lush scenery is like something out of another world. Jagged cliffs, beaches of glittering black sand, ribbon-like waterfalls cascading from emerald escarpments, and smoldering volcanoes catch your eye at every turn. You’ll see pounding surf, limpid lagoons, and sometimes a snowy cap on the highest mountains. Explore bamboo forests and plunging gorges. At night, look up at the astonishing array of stars.
Unique Culture
Hawaiian people feel a deep connection to nature and embrace the spirit of Aloha, which means living in harmony with nature and the people around you. Beliefs are expressed through beautiful chants, music, graceful hula, and art. Stories relayed from one generation to the next invoke the spirits and the historical events that have shaped the islands. Natural phenomena are understood as the work of gods and goddesses, and many locations and animals are regarded as sacred.
Intriguing Cuisine
Hawaii boasts a unique cuisine, with influences from Polynesia, Japan, and America. Taste fresh tuna poke bowls, sweet pineapple, and juicy strawberry papaya. Try lomi lomi, salted salmon with tomatoes, onions, and hot peppers. Sample local chocolate and enjoy coffee made from Kona beans. Experience everything from delicate sushi and sashimi to moco loco. Look out for spam, a local favorite, served in wontons or as Spam musubi with rice and nori.

Top Hawaii FAQs
What is the best time of year to take a cruise to Hawaii?
The best time of year to visit Hawaii is from March to September, when you can expect warm temperatures and less rain. Hawaii is, however, a year-round destination, with great snorkeling, hiking, and beach life at any time of year.
How long does a typical cruise last?
Our Hawaiian cruises last from nine to 13 nights, sailing between Vancouver and Honolulu. You could also choose a transpacific cruise, starting or ending in Honolulu. These longer voyages range from 16 to 19 nights.
What are the main ports of call?
The main ports of call in Hawaii are Honolulu, from where our cruises start or finish, and Hilo and Kona, both on the Big Island. On some itineraries, you’ll also enjoy scenic cruising along the Napali Coast on Kauai, a sacred landscape of emerald cliffs, pristine beaches, and jagged mountain ridges. Some cruises also visit Astoria in Oregon before the Pacific crossing to Hawaii.
What should I pack?
Hawaii is a tropical destination with year-round warm weather and high humidity. Pack for beach days, and if you’re an active kind of traveler, hikes and adventures. Swimwear, sunblock, coverups, beach shoes, a sun hat, and proper footwear for hiking should all be on your list.
Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.
Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.
Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.
The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theatre.
Can I fly to Hawaii and then cruise the islands?
Our cruises to Hawaii operate one-way either to or from Honolulu and Vancouver (or Sydney, Australia in terms of transpacific voyages). So yes, if you pick a Honolulu to Vancouver departure, you can easily fly to Hawaii and spend a few days exploring before embarking on your Celebrity ship.
Do I need a passport?
For Hawaii cruises that either begin or end in Vancouver, Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry proof of citizenship and identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card, or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens.
If you have chosen to visit Hawaii as part of a transpacific cruise, you’ll also need a passport.
Non-U.S. citizens also require a passport for entry into both the U.S. and Canada (and the countries visited on our transpacific cruises). It is your responsibility to check your government’s website for the latest information about entry and visa requirements.
What kind of activities and excursions are available?
Hawaii offers a wonderful range of activities and experiences. From Kona, join a snorkel or submarine tour to admire the spectacular underwater world. Meet local producers and try island-made coffee and chocolate, or explore the lush interior of the Big Island in a 4x4, stopping to cool off under tumbling waterfalls.
Historic Hilo is also famous as the gateway to magnificent falls and verdant rainforest. Admire the dramatic lava landscapes of the Volcanoes National Park shaped by the still-active Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes. In Honolulu, make time to visit Pearl Harbor, or stroll along the iconic Waikiki Beach.

If you’re looking to make an exotic destination your next vacation, let’s talk about the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of Hawaii. The answers are as follows: visit Hawaii on a Carnival cruise (of course), and… visit Hawaii because this place is simply spectacular! Take a Hawaii cruise and explore exotic locations spread across four islands — the Hawaiian island chain is home to names you know, like Maui, Kona and Honolulu. These spots feature postcard-worthy waterfalls, volcanoes and some of the world’s most stunning, sunning beaches. You’ll find these spread across an island chain so otherworldly that you may forget you’re in the states! Best of all, that postcard you’re sure to send home will require only domestic postage.
- Experience some of the world's most famous beaches.
- Get up-close with a volcanic mountain.
- Hula it up at a real luau.

In light of recent conditions, should my family cancel Hawaii in December? Will Princess change itinerary right up to sailing? What happens if the change is something we don't like? Lots of questions.

@LukeJ I think some Hawaiian cruises have continued on but many have altered itineraries to avoid the areas of tragedy. I believe NCL has made the decision to cancel bookings for Hawaii for this month
kefthecruiser
Unfortunately, none of us here have a crystal ball that works. If your heart is set on stopping at Maui, it likely will not happen. Princess will most likely stop at a different port, thus keeping the number of port days the same. If it's something you don't like, well..., you can cancel; refunds per your cruise contract cancellation clause or travel insurance policy. (BTW - all cruise lines reserve the right to change the itinerary at any time, even during the cruise, as spelled out in the cruise contract.)
Hawaii is a big state - the affected area is small. I can’t imagine any itinerary changes unless the port stop is in the town the fires devastated.
@Rosemary This is such a sad and disturbing time for Hawaii. I feel so deeply for the mass amount of people who lost their livelihood. I am confident your cruise will by then continue on with its cruise, even potentially stopping in Hawaii as planned. I wouldn't cancel this cruise. Give it a month or two and see how everything pans out. Even if your itinerary doesn't stop in Hawaii, I'm sure Princess Cruises will either properly compensate guests or change to other lovely ports of call.
@FJB Yes, I doubt Hawaii will need to be completely avoided. By December hopefully, everything has stabilized some.
@kefthecruiser Thanks for adding that in there. any cruise guests don't know that the itineraries and cruise structure are really all at the discretion of the cruise line. The cruise lines reserve the right to cancel and/or change the cruise itinerary at any time, including in the middle of the sailing.
Are there still trips going to Hawaii? I've read reports stating that it's a big location and one side is affected so therefore ships could visit the other destination. But surely how anyone could visit a destination and enjoy themselves knowing that there is carnage going on the island.
@LukeJ I think some Hawaiian cruises have continued on but many have altered itineraries to avoid the areas of tragedy. I believe NCL has made the decision to cancel bookings for Hawaii for this month. I'm not sure if the cruise line will reconsider this perspective for next month. I don't think this is currently an area of interest because, as you mentioned, it's an area that is suffering a great loss. Personally, I wouldn't want to visit now.
Princess Cruises still has some Honolulu options for September on its website.
https://www.princess.com/cruise-search/results/?trade=H
No it would appear to be in bad taste to visit and relax with peoples homes burning behind you. Is the fire still raging? Pardon my ignorance, I've tried to read about the devastation but i can't really see if the fire is still going.
Cruising Caribbean
@LukeJ The fires were reported to have been 100% contained as of August 12th. I don't think anyone would dare to venture to an area where fires are active. That would be a horrid circumstance. I think if the area is up for visitors and feels recovered, then guests can visit it, but if the area is not ready and filled with dispairs, cruise lines should not venture there. Apparently, there are parts of Maui open to visitors right now including Hana, Kahului, and Wailea along with the islands of Lanai and Oahu. Have you cruised to Hawaii in the past?
I'm glad they have been distinguished and the island can start afresh again. I wish the islanders all the luck going. I have not visited Hawaii before @Cruising Caribbean , and maybe one day I will because it looks the perfect place.
Hawaii has 5 islands with ports that accomodate cruise ships: Kauai, Oahu, Lanai, Maui (2 ports), and Hawaii aka the Big Island (2 ports). Only the port at Lahaina, Maui is closed, as is the surrounding area, due to the firestorm. Each island is unique and beautiful. I have personally been to Oahu, Maui and the Big Island; staying on the islands rather than via cruise ship.

@kefthecruiser Thanks for all this info! I haven't been to Hawaii yet either so I had to do some research when it came to port options. It seems like most cruise lines opt to take guests to Maui which is why I'm noticing guests voicing their concerns about upcoming itineraries. It seems like the area is not going to be fully recovered for quite some time, but there is certainly a sense of urgency to restore everything to gain an increase in tourism. What was your favorite area in Hawaii, and which area would you recommend for a first-time visit there?
It's been over twenty years since I've been to Hawaii. The flora and fauna are outstanding. It is truly a tropical paradise, in the middle of nowhere. The economy is heavily reliant on tourism, though some locals are less welcoming than others. Oahu, where Honolulu is, is the most populous and thus most developed island. It of course has Waikiki Beach, but for me, Pearl Harbor is not to be missed. Now that the Battleship Missouri is now on display there, I need to go back. In contrast, the Big Island was rather rural at the time. It's outstanding feature is Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. If the park is open and you get to the top, looking into the caldera is impressive. We stayed in Maui just outside of Lahaina. I think the resort was spared but is currently being used for temporary housing for displaced locals. I won't dwell on Lahaina since it's all gone. I remember there was much more to Maui, including a jungle road that took us to remote black sand beaches.
Where to start for a first timer? Tough question, I'm told Kauai is the most romantic. One really needs to research and find what is important to you. They all have beaches, surfing, resorts, golfing, deep sea fishing, land tours, helicopter tours, etc.
A cruise ship stop hardly covers it.
@kefthecruiser Thanks for sharing all of your experience! Honolulu is usually one of the more popular Hawaiian areas of tourism. Kauai is also another popular area for cruisers! I expect to see a change in tourism in Lahaina . I doubt it will be able to return back to its original state. So much of the historical beauty and landmarks have been affected by the fires. The natural beauty of the area will always exist, but I believe returning guests will experience a completely new experience when visiting again.
I completely agree. I don't think a one-day cruise stop would be enough time to truly experience all the surrounding landmarks.
Well said. Never visited Hawaii. The island looks stunning and I agree with @LukeJ , I wish them all positive vibes going forward.

Stromboli Island (Aeolian Islands Sicily)
Cruise port schedule, live map, terminals, news.

Port Stromboli Island cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Stromboli Island, Aeolian Islands Sicily. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.
Stromboli Island (Strongule) is located in Tyrrhenian Sea (Central Mediterranean), off Sicily's northern coast. The island has population around 500.
Stromboli is one of the seven Aeolian Islands, together with Lipari , Vulcano, Salina, Filicudi, Alicudi and Panarea.
Stromboli has one of Italy's (and mainland Europe's) 3 active volcanoes - the other 2 being Mt Etna (Sicily) and Mt Vesuvius (near Naples ).
Stromboli volcano has erupted many times. It is constantly active featuring minor eruptions visible from many points on Stromboli and from the surrounding sea, which gave rise to the nickname "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean". On April 13, 2009, was the volcano's most recent major eruption.
Stromboli Island is 926 m (3038 ft) above sea level, and over 2700 m (8858 ft) above sea bed. There are 3 active craters at the peak. Sciara del Fuoco is a big horseshoe-shaped depression generated during the last 13,000 years by collapses on the cone's northwestern side.
The island's two main villages (San Vincenzo and San Bartolo) are in the northeast, while the smaller Ginostra village is in the southwest. During the early 1900s the island had a few thousand inhabitants, but after numerous emigrations, by mid-1950s the population numbered just a few hundred.
Stromboli Island cruise terminal
Most cruise ships to Stromboli Island dock (anchor) at Stromboli - port town on the northeastern coast. Some ships may also dock at Ginostra - port town on the isle's western coast.

2 crew members die on Holland America ship; fire breaks out on Carnival cruise
MIAMI — Two crew members died on board a Holland America cruise ship, and a fire broke out on a Carnival ship while both of the ships were in the Bahamas this weekend, officials said.
The two crew on the Florida-based Nieuw Amsterdam died Friday during an "accidental steam release" while it was calling at the private resort island Half Moon Cay, Holland America said in a statement on Sunday.
"There was an accidental steam release in an engineering space on board Nieuw Amsterdam, which sadly resulted in the death of two crew members," the cruise line said.
The Bahamas Maritime Authority and the Dutch Safety Board were investigating the exact cause of the release, Holland America said.
A representative of the Bahama’s Coroner’s Court did not immediately respond to a request for information, such as the crew members’ identities and the cause and manner of death.
The cruise line said the conclusions of any investigation would be taken seriously. "Safety is always our top priority, and we are working to understand what, if anything, can be learned from this tragic accident," it said.
Passenger Laine Doss said she was on board when the captain announced the deaths on the vessel's P.A. system.
"We were celebrating the last day of the cruise," she said, when the mood changed "to something extremely somber."
The captain's voice broke, she said.
"He broke down crying," Doss said. "There was a moment of silence that the captain requested. And that entire scenario did affect the entire cruise. Things were canceled, joyous events were canceled, and we really just thought about mortality — the people who perished on the ship."
Crew members were being offered counseling, Holland America said.
Dutch government inspectors determined the vessel to be "fully operable," and this was "confirmed" by the U.S. Coast Guard, the cruise line said.
A U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson said she was looking into the statement and was unable to immediately confirm it.
The Nieuw Amsterdam returned Saturday to its home port of Fort Lauderdale, guests disembarked, and the vessel has embarked on a cruise with a stop in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on Monday, Holland America said.
"All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this event," the cruise line said. "We’ve been in contact with the families of both team members and are offering our support to them and to all of our crew at this difficult time."
The ship set sail out of Fort Lauderdale on March 16 for a seven-night trip.
Fire on the port-side exhaust funnel of another Florida-based cruise ship in the Bahamas, the Carnival Freedom, rocked some passengers Saturday and took the ship out of commission for repairs, the cruise line said.
No injuries were reported.
In a statement Sunday, Carnival Cruises acknowledged witness reports of a lightning strike or the sound of thunder before the fire erupted.
Passenger Heath Barnes said the ship was on a detoured path, destined for an unscheduled stop in Freeport, as a result of stormy weather and high winds when fire started.
"I was shocked," he said. "I mean, I looked out there and you're not supposed to see black smoke and fire shooting out of the tail end of the cruise."
The blaze was preceded by "the loudest thunder-lightning clap that I've ever heard in my life," Barnes said.
Ship personnel extinguished the fire, Carnival Cruises said.
The cruise line said a technical team determined the ship sustained enough damage that it will need repairs before it can be returned to scheduled cruises. The funnel was stabilized, passengers were expected to be returned to Port Canaveral, and the ship will set off to Freeport for repairs, it said.
"The damage is more than we first thought and will require an immediate repair to stabilize the funnel, resulting in the cancellation of the March 25 and March 29 cruises from Port Canaveral," Carnival Cruises said.
Passengers scheduled for those late-March cruises are being offered full refunds and credit that can be used for a future cruise, it said.
It was the second funnel fire on the Carnival Freedom since 2022.

16 Things You Must Do Every Time You Board a Cruise Ship
Posted: December 31, 2023 | Last updated: December 31, 2023
Planning for a cruise can be a year-long event. By the time you've booked your journey with one of the top travel credit cards and boarding day arrives you might not know what to do first.
Should you visit the buffet? Get situated in your cabin? Plunge into the pool?
Start your ocean journey on the right foot by following our checklist of 16 things to do as soon as you board your cruise ship.
Earn Points and Miles: Find the best travel credit card for nearly free travel
Pack a carry-on bag
Tackle the first important step before you board your cruise ship and pack a carry-on bag full of essentials you need to access during your first day on board the night before you leave.
Include a swimsuit, change of clothes, essential medications, a toothbrush, and any activities to keep you occupied during lulls in the action.
Get expert advice on making more money - sent straight to your inbox.
Verify that travel documents are in order
You’ll need to present identification to board your cruise ship. As you’re putting together your carry-on bag, double-check your driver’s license and passport if needed.
These things should be secure within your carry-on but easy to access quickly.
Check out the schedule on the cruise app
Most major cruise lines have mobile apps you can access throughout your trip.
While you’re waiting to board, scroll through the first day’s schedule as listed on the app to find out:
- Where you can find lunch
- What time the muster drill will be at
- How to access your cabin
- Whether any special events are planned for the evening
Grow Your $$: 11 brilliant ways to build wealth after 40
Find your cabin
Once you’ve safely boarded the ship, make your way to your cabin and start to get situated.
Your bags might not be waiting for you yet, but you should be able to access the room. Have a look around and report any concerns to the staff ASAP.
Unpack your carry-on
Get ahead of the tedious task of unpacking by sorting through whatever you brought in your carry-on bag.
You’ll have plenty more to organize once your bags arrive, so you might as well give your future self a helping hand by unpacking what you can now instead of adding to any chaos later.
Find out if the internet works
If you purchased an internet package for your journey, take the time to log into the system and figure out how well it works.
If you didn’t buy a Wi-Fi package ahead of time but find that you can’t live without it, now is your chance to sign up.
Retire Sooner: Take this quiz to see if you can retire early
Set your phone to airplane mode
You might still have some phone service before you embark, but it’s bound to get spotty as soon as you leave the port.
Forgetting to turn on airplane mode can mean racking up roaming charges without even noticing you’re doing so. Set your phone to airplane mode now instead of leaving it until later.
Dress for the day’s events
If you were waiting until you checked in to change into your swimsuit and gear up for a fun first day of hanging around the pool, now’s your chance.
You’ve made it on board, so feel free to slip into something a bit more comfortable.
Apply sunscreen
Hoping to spend at least some of your first day exploring your cruise ship’s decks? No one wants to kick off their vacation with a sunburn.
Get ahead of the sun by applying sunscreen before you leave your cabin for the first time.
9 nearly secret things to do if you fly Southwest
Take anti-nausea medication
Cruise ships are large enough that you likely won’t feel any dramatic rocking as you sail unless you encounter a storm. Still, people who tend to get motion sick on dry land can get seasick on cruise ships.
If you’re one of those people, don’t forget to take anti-nausea medication so you can explore the ship without getting too dizzy.
Attend the mandatory muster drill
Cruise lines provide passengers with comprehensive safety training before the ship embarks on its journey.
All passengers are required to attend the safety training — called a muster drill — and wear their life jackets for the duration of the drill.
You can expect the muster drill to happen 30 to 90 minutes before embarking, but check your ship’s schedule for exact details.
Explore your surroundings
Cruise ships are massive, so there are plenty of areas to explore, activities to find, and decks to get used to.
While you’re waiting for the mandatory muster drill, pull up a map of the ship on your cruise line’s app and start familiarizing yourself with the place you’ll call home for the next week or so.
Consider choosing an e-muster
Some cruises now host their muster drills entirely via their app instead of in-person safety training.
Find out if your cruise line requires an in-person drill or if you can complete an e-course instead, then take care of the course right away.
Double-check reservations — or make them in the first place
You might need to make a reservation to enjoy the cruise line activities you’ve been most excited about, such as a spa day or meal at a fancy restaurant.
Hopefully, you signed up for events well in advance. If so, take a moment to verify that the details are in order. If you didn’t sign up early, you should be able to use your app to find any open spots.
Find the best spot to enjoy embarking
There’s nothing quite like the rush of watching your ship pull away from the shoreline and head out to sea at the start of your grand adventure.
Document the moment by finding the ideal spot to watch the moment you leave port — you won’t want to miss it.
Unpack the rest of your bags
You’ve already unpacked your carry-on. Next up, unpack your luggage as soon as it arrives in your cabin.
The sooner you check this tedious task off your list, the faster you can get to the cruise ship activities you’ve been looking forward to for so long.
Bottom line
Follow this simple 16-step checklist to avoid wasting money and enjoy every minute of your cruise, from the start of your journey to the end.
You’ve spent ages preparing for your cruise. Don’t let a second of it go to waste.

Woman arrested after allegedly killing 66-year-old and his dog in hit-and-run
MADISON, Wis. ( WMTV /Gray News) - Over one year after a fatal hit-and-run, a 22-year-old woman is behind bars after she allegedly ran over a man and his dog.
In February 2023, Tiambra Walker struck 66-year-old Stephen Fleck while he was walking his dog, Gille Dubh, according to WMTV. Authorities said they both were in the road nearly 10 minutes before being found.
The investigation came to an end when a woman reported her purse stolen around 12:50 p.m., on Saturday.
WMTV reported that police eventually found the suspect in a vehicle with three people inside.
Walker allegedly tried to run from officers but was caught and brought to the Peoria County Jail, where she’s being held. She was charged with assaulting an officer, escape, theft and resisting.
Police said Walker will be extradited due to the more severe nature of her charges.
At the time of the fatal hit-and-run, Walker was out on bail with a condition that she could not drive.
