Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream Ship Horn Battle

Toward the top of the list of the highlights of my trip on the Disney Fantasy preview cruise, and there were many, were the three close encounters the Fantasy had with its sister ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, The Disney Dream. All three encounters included the two ships talking to each other via the ship horn, but the visit between the two ships at Castaway Cay was the closest and loudest.

The Fantasy was docked at Castaway Cay and the Dream made a special trip just to come show off. After the horn battle the Dream pivoted in the water just a couple hundred yards off the bow of the Fantasy and then took off back to its next destination. Many crew members on the Fantasy had either worked on the Dream or have friends there, so there was a special feeling on deck with cast members and guests all enjoying the show together.

Coming soon, two videos of the fireworks aboard the Disney Dream as seen from the Disney Fantasy – the very first time ever for that and quite possible the only time for the foreseeable future.

Video: Disney Wish and Disney Dream get into epic Horn Battle

All cruise ships have horns but the horns on Disney Cruise Line ‘s ships are magical! They play multiple Disney tunes that really add to the magic of the sailing. Recently, two of the ships were at Disney’s Castaway Cay and got into an epic horn battle!

The Disney Dream and the Disney Wish were both docked at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay recently. While there, the ships got into quite the horn battle. TikTok user Abby (@happilyeverabby) caught it on video:

In the video, you can hear the difference in the ship’s horns. The Disney Dream has a more traditional horn whereas the Disney Wish has multiple horns that can harmonize. The ships played tunes like “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “A Pirate’s Life for Me,” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman.”

The Disney Wish will be christened on June 29th and will sail on its maiden voyage on July 14th.

A Fun Experience

March 16, 2012 After a lovely day at Castaway Cay, the Magic heads home for Port Canaveral. On the way, the Magic passes the Dream on its way to Castaway. A horn battle ensues.

Shot from the Magic, deck 10, port side, by the second funnel. My camera refused to focus at all, but the sound quality is just fine. Personally, as great and fun as the multiple songs on the Dream are, I still prefer the Magic’s horn.

Disney Wish Christening Events

It is less than fifty days until the maiden voyage of the Disney Wish. Some details about the arrival and christening of the Disney Wish have been released.

Disney Wish horn Battle with Disney Dream at Castaway

Today Disney Cruises’ multi-day celebration to welcome the Disney Wish to the fleet was approved by Port Canaveral Commissioners. Disney Cruises’ first new ship in more than a decade will be arriving on the morning of June 20, 2022. Disney has been granted approval to film the early morning arrival. The Disney Wish will be arriving between 4-7am June 20, 2022.

June 29, 2022 Disney Wish Christening

The ship’s christening on June 29, 2022, is ahead of a planned four-night preview cruise for news media and travel agents. “DCL will conduct on-site installation and event rehearsals from June 16-28. The technical and structural elements that DCL will provide include bleachers, stage, audio towers, light towers, video walls, generators, tents, and special effects.” Disney will be broadcasting the event live .

In the past Disney Christenings have included musical performances and fireworks. Jennifer Hudson performed in 2011 when the Disney Dream debuted, she is the godmother of the Disney Dream. No godmother has been announced yet for Disney Wish.

Trident Class Ships

The ship is the first of three in a new Trident class of ships for Disney, the largest in the fleet coming in at 144,000 gross tons and 1,254 staterooms, compared with the 130,000 gross tons of Disney Dream and Fantasy and the 84,000 gross tons of the line’s two original ships Disney Magic and Wonder. The next two Trident class ships are not due until 2024 and 2025.

Construction on Disney Wish began at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany in 2020, and was floated out on February 11, 2022.

The Wish was original planned Maiden voyage was January 2022, but due to Covid it was pushed out to June 2022. Further delays lead to some cancellations and the Maiden Voyage to be rescheduled for July 14, 2022.

VIDEO: Wait Until You Hear the Horn on Disney Cruise Line’s Newest Ship the Wish

We’ve got a fabulous video to share with you.  If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that the Disney Wish is currently making its way to Port Canaveral to start transporting guests to the Bahamas later this Summer.  A handful of awesome press events are planned for the month ahead to give Disney fans a first look at the newest ship in the fleet. But, before then, we have something to tide you over (no pun intended.)  

A video has recently emerged of Disney Wish blowing it’s horn and as you would imagine, because it is a Disney ship, it is nothing short of magical!

As you can hear from the footage above, the songs played include: 

• “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from  Cinderella
• “Be Our Guest” from  Beauty and the Beast
• “Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee (An Actor’s Life for Me.)” from Pinocchio
• “It’s a small world…” 
• “Yo, Ho! (A Pirates Life for Me.)”

As the caption for the video tells us, this footage was captured in Germany yesterday (June 9, 2022.)

A New Years Family Gathering with the Disney Magic, Disney Dream & Disney Fantasy UPDATE: Horn Battle Video

To ring in 2016, guests sailing on the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic were provided with an amazing photo op as three of the four Disney Cruise Line ships met up near Castaway Cay. On January 1, 2016 the Disney Fantasy was at Castaway Cay, the Disney Magic and Disney Dream made the most of their day at sea to sail close to Castaway Cay to end the first day of the year. The Disney Wonder was unable to attend the family gathering as she spent the day in Nassau.

How did they get those pictures?

Crew members were in boats. I saw them on the Fantasy

Oh, wow! What an awesome treat for those cruisers! At midnight on New Year’s Eve while on the Wonder, we saw fireworks in the distance in a few directions. I had the wild thought that the rest of the family might be close.

I so wish I could have been there for that!!

We were on the Fantasy and saw the boat with the photographer go out to capture the moment. Great pictures! There were a few horn greetings between the ships. My iPhone didn’t get them all.

That would have truly been Magical. I hope someone can provide the horn battle. I was really surprised watching the departure from Port Canaveral the first time they played the new “Do you want to build a snowman” horn.

Has this ever happened for? Even with the Wonder in Nassau all four ships would have been within at least 60 miles of each other at some point.

We were on the Dream and Captain Henry said that this was the first time that it has happened. It was something they had been working on for a while.

The itineraries do not really match up for next year.

I was on the Fanasty, and it was amazing. I now have seen all the ships!

I was on the dream for that sailing and it was a blast!

I am thinking the 2nd image is on the Fanasty because Toy story 3 was in it and Toy story 3 was on

Found this on you tube, it is a cruise ship horn battle between a Carnival Cruise Ship and a Walt Disney Cruise Ship.

The first horn you will hear is the Disney Ship (where the footage is being taken from).

Keep listening to the whole clip (1 minute) its quite cleaver. Who do you think wins the battle with the best horn?

Wowwww! That sent shivers up my spine. Wonderful sound - that's given me a fix for the day! :D:D:D

Damn, I wish I could get broadband, I can't view any clips on this dial up. I will have to go to daughters place and have a look. I love the fog horns. The Sapphire had to put the fog horn on coming back from Oz to Auckland. Our cabin was on the top deck, with balcony, and it was great, sitting out there, sailing through the fog listening to it. There were so many complaints around the ship from some passengers about it. It's there for a reason for goodness sake, but it really made you feel like you were on a ship, just like in the old films.

In 2004, we flew over and joined QM2 for her maiden voyage into the Med.

That was an amazing voyage for horn blowing. Sea tradition calls for other ships to greet a new ship on the sea as they pass each other , and as we were in many ports with many other ships, sail outs were awesome.

I remember trying to make sure i was always filming when the horn went off on our sailaway from Sydney Harbour, and all 3 times all you end hearing is me screaming over the top of the horn as it scared the bejesus out of me! Big butch thing i am :p

Any "Maritime experts" out there who could tell us

when ships are permitted/required to blast the horn?

I know when a ship is getting underway,

they give 3 blasts,

and as mentioned above use it in fog.

I always wait for it as we leave a port ,

but sometimes it does not happen.

I wish I could put that sound on my mobile when it rings.:D

Hehehe Rockie - I think you'd cause a few heart attacks.!;) But I have to agree - it's a wonderful sound.

The three blasts is a signal that they are backing into the active sea-lane or channel. It is not usually give when moving forward from a berth.

Any "Maritime experts" out there who could tell us when ships are permitted/required to blast the horn?   I know when a ship is getting underway, they give 3 blasts, and as mentioned above use it in fog.   I always wait for it as we leave a port , but sometimes it does not happen.

The 3 blasts mean the vessel is operating its propulsion astern. Your only allowed to use your horn when operating in conditions with restricted visibility, overtaking another vessel, nearing a narrow channel, when manouvering or when unclear of another vessel intention.
