Sharing is caring!

Traveling the world is something that many of us want to do at some point in our lives.

We all want to get away from the daily grind, but the thought of traveling solo can be daunting for some.

That’s why it’s great to have travel friends who love to explore new places as much as you do!

But if your friends aren’t up for an adventure, you might find yourself with no one to go on vacation with.

Don’t worry!

This isn’t the end of the world, and there are plenty of ways to find travel friends who want to check out a new city, country, or continent.

Today we’ll look at some tips for finding friends who you can share your love for traveling.

Why do you Need Travel Friends?

Having friends who love to go on adventures is a huge benefit.

First of all, it’s easier to feel comfortable exploring a new city or country with someone you know and trust at your side.

Another great benefit of having travel friends is that you’re able to split costs.

You don’t have to worry too much about paying for transportation or your accommodations because you can split the costs with your friends, saving yourself some money.

Having a buddy also makes it easier to explore a new place.

For example, if you’re in Rome and want to go on a day trip to the nearby city of Pompeii, having at least one friend who wants to come makes it easier for you to find transportation and pay for entrance fees.

And don’t forget about fun!

Traveling is more fun when you have someone to share your experiences with.

Disadvantages of Having Travel Buddies

There are plenty of benefits to having travel friends, but there are also some challenges you might face.

The biggest challenge is not getting along with your travel companion.

It’s important to choose your friends carefully and make sure you and your potential travel pals share similar interests in terms of exploring new places and activities in general.

Another challenge is that you might run into problems finding people who want to go on an adventure at the same time as you.

It’s easy enough to find friends who are free during the month of September.

But it might be harder to find someone who can afford to travel in December when the holidays are approaching.

Of course, it’s also beneficial to have time alone when you’re traveling.

That way you can enjoy your surroundings without having to worry about what your friends are doing or saying.

Ask friends and family to recommend a good travel buddy.

One of the easiest ways to find new travel buddies is by asking the people who know you best.

If you have friends or family that love to travel, just ask for their advice and recommendations on where they’ve found the best travel companions.

Or if they know someone who would be interested in joining you, chances are that they’ll be able to connect you both.

Join Facebook groups.

There are tons of Facebook groups dedicated to people who share your interests.

Whether it’s cooking or traveling, there is sure to be a group for you.

Just search for a topic that interests you on Facebook and join a group of like-minded people.

You can then post a query about your travel plans and see if anyone can join you on your adventure.

But make sure not to share any personal information until you get to know people better.

virtual friends

Go on an organized tour.

If you are not the type of person to travel alone, there are plenty of tour operators where you can join with other travelers.

This way, you’ll always have companions on your journey and there won’t be any risk of getting lost along the way.

Tips for Finding the Best Travel Friends

Now that you know where to look for the best travel buddies, here are some of the basics you should consider when trying to find companions for your next adventure.

Make sure you’re compatible.

Just because someone is your travel friend, that doesn’t mean you should trust them blindly.

Make sure they share the same interests as you and if possible, find out how well you work together before heading out on a long trip.

Trust your gut instinct.

If something seems off or weird, it probably isn’t the best idea to stick around with that person.

Make sure they are genuine and you won’t have any problems on your trip together.

Be clear about what you want.

Don’t go into a traveling friendship with unrealistic expectations.

So make sure to set guidelines on how often you’re willing to travel together and agree on what the expectations are.

Share responsibilities.

It’s always a good idea to share the cost of your trip so that everything is fair and there won’t be any issues later down the road.

So before embarking on your adventure, make sure you agree on how much you’ll be spending and on what.

Because it is better to be safe than sorry, so make sure there are no financial misunderstandings that may arise later on.

random chat

Be flexible and have fun!

Even if you don’t click with someone as a travel friend, make sure you still enjoy your time together.

Don’t take everything too seriously and keep an open mind when traveling with other people.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to find travel buddies that will share the same interests as you with little to no problems along the way.

Now that you know where and how to look for travel partners, it’s time to get out there and explore!

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re traveling alone or in a group, there are plenty of people out there who can make your trip even better.

All you have to do is find them!

Even if you consider yourself an introvert and having friends while traveling isn’t that important to you, it’s still nice to share an adventure with someone who understands the ins and outs of the country you’re visiting.

Because there’s always something to learn from other people, whether it’s where to eat or what not to do.

So go out there and make your next adventure even better by finding travel friends who can join you on your journey!

And try one or more of the websites listed above.

Who knows, you might make a new friend for life!

Hi Erica, Absolutely awesome article. Btw, you are missing two big ones. CouchSurfing and GAFFL. I have always used CS before and recently used GAFFL in Australia. It was awesome. It connects people based on trips. You can start a trip or join trips. I think you can mention them in your list too.

Will do, thanks Ed!

We love it too Lina!

Finding a perfect travel buddy is always difficult. But, having a travel buddy can make the trip more enjoyable and less lonely. It helps to have someone to split the expenses with, so you can save up for your next trip. A travel partner also minimizes risks associated with traveling alone. GAFFL (www.gogaffl.com) can be a great addition to this list. It matches up travelers with similar travel plans and ensures the safety of travelers through their well-built verification process.

Thanks for the tip, Abrar!

Traveling solo can be fun at times, but there are times when you want a travel partner. It's pretty common for family or friends to ditch you at the last moment and ruin your big trip. You don't have to give up on your plans because of that, though.

You'll find a list of different routes and the locals and people near you who also want to visit that destination. All you have to do is choose the preferred options to carve out a plan for your trip.

You can start talking to the potential travel buddies in the chat to try to know them better. You can initiate the chat by clicking the connect button. This website also shows if their accounts are verified.

If you like the person, you can meet up with them and plan the trip together. Finding a partner is effortless on this website.

2. Flip the Trip

12 Apps and Sites to Find a Travel Partner

Traveling is always a magical experience, even if you’re going solo. But in case you’d love to arrange an exciting trip with a new friend, this post is for you. I’ll introduce you to the coolest apps and sites to find a travel partner.

group of friends side hugs by the sea

You’ll notice how simple it is to browse the web for folks with travel preferences that match yours, as well as fine-tune the results according to age, gender, and other filters if you want.

Let’s do this!

Table of Contents

Top apps to find a travel partner

1. travello.

Travello mobile app. Travello is one of the best apps to find a travel partner.

Available on iOS and Android

Travello tops our list because it’s hands down the most thorough app of its kind, in addition to one of the largest travel communities on Earth.

Despite not being designed specifically as a travel partner search tool, the issue-oriented groups you can take part in are perfect for that. You can interact with fellow solo travelers, photographers, hikers,… or any other interests you may think of.

Chances are you’ll get to meet new friends in your hometown too, as there are millions of users around the globe.

What’s more, Travello offers 30,000+ tours and activities all over the planet that you can book for a discount by collecting points on the app.

The app also features a built-in GPS functionality that locates sweet deals, events, and free Wi-Fi wherever you are.

2. Facebook

Facebook groups for travel partners

Facebook isn’t as popular with the younger crowd as it used to be a couple of years back, yet Meta’s flagship social media platform remains unrivaled when it comes to one precious tool: groups.

You probably know the drill. You just have to tap on the Groups icon on Facebook’s homepage and search for keywords or phrases related to your need. In this case, “travel buddies”, “travel partners”, or “travel friends” are the best combinations.

Then, simply join the groups that match your interests and either post your travel plans or scroll down to see what’s up.

A few of the highlights here include I Need a Travel Buddy , with 33,000+ members, and Travel Buddies , with 26,000+.

Women Who Travel , a private group with over 155,000 members, might turn out to be a lot of help to female travelers.

Meetup mobile app

Meetup isn’t exclusively travel-oriented, but it is definitely an amazing place to find a travel partner.

The platform’s basic premise is to hook you up with people who share similar interests with you, based on the events that the 61 million users organize in 9,000 cities. Meetup’s impressive size is by far one of its greatest assets.

Like Facebook, the app also offers the possibility of creating and joining groups so you can interact with folks who enjoy the same stuff as you, be it cooking, visiting museums, or cycling.

Though that doesn’t necessarily amount to finding a travel buddy, you’ll be able to meet new friends and hopefully make plans to see the world together.

Plus, you can always attend an event in the city you’re traveling to and meet up a local to show you around.

Gaffl mobile app

Gaffl is a reliable resource that connects you to potential friends, which means you never again have to travel all by yourself if you don’t want to.

The first thing you have to do is pick a destination. The app will then show you people near you who have similar travel plans so you can use the chat tool to get to know them better and arrange the details. Alternatively, you can post your itinerary and let other members join in.

One of Gaffl’s advantages is the fact that you can see which users have a verified account and choose to interact only with trustworthy profiles.

5. Travel Buddy

Travel Buddy mobile app

Whether it’s Japan , Peru , or Italy , Travel Buddy is your go-to guide to explore the must-sees, find the best deals on everything you may need while abroad, and meet new friends on-site.

Built as a community of travelers that connects over a million locals and visitors around the world, the app also allows users to list services like walking tours and accommodation options in such a way that you’ll hardly need any other travel app.

This is an innovative system to find a travel partner, as you’ll bond with authentic globetrotters and passionate locals.

6. Tourlina

Tourlina mobile app

Women face far larger safety risks than men when traveling by themselves, especially in remote areas or in countries where traditional values are still upheld by the majority of people. Traveling with a male partner, in turn, can end up being just as complicated.

That’s what Tourlina aims to address: letting women make travel plans with other female travelers. It works like a regular dating app, where you swipe left or right on potential matches after setting the outline of your plans (i.e. dates and destination) and your partner preferences, including age range.

The best thing about the app is that only verified users with a Facebook profile are admitted, which makes it extremely reliable. On the other hand, Tourlina is an expanding platform, which means you’ll often struggle to match with someone depending on your travel plans.

7. CouchSurfing

Couchsurfing mobile app

When CouchSurfing was launched in 2004, it was a truly groundbreaking initiative because it was the first-ever website to connect travelers and folks who would host them for free.

While that remains its core business, with its 12 million users, CouchSurfing is also a wonderful forum where you can meet new friends to travel the world with you.

One of the best ways to do that is by taking part in the weekly events members organize in 200,000 cities across the planet.

In 2020, in order to bear the financial burden brought about by the pandemic, CouchSurfing introduced a membership fee for users registering from a bunch of countries, among which Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, the UK, as well as several EU nations.

Yet that takes nothing away from the app’s status as the no. 1 platform connecting travelers and hosts on a global scale.

8. Workaway

Workaway mobile app

Like Couchsurfing, Workaway is a different sort of app in that it’s not aimed as much at matching you with a travel partner , but rather with a travel host . This is a fantastic alternative for those of you who want to travel on a budget.

Basically, you’ll be given accommodation and food in exchange for pre-agreed services you’ll be performing for your host according to your skills. You can tend their garden, do some house sitting, or teach their kids your native language, for example. Even better, you’ll be paid an actual wage in case your host needs help with business matters.

The app was launched approximately 20 years ago and is extremely effective, so the fact that it charges a  $49 annual membership isn’t really absurd. Both hosts and volunteers are reviewed by other users, meaning you can trust Workaway to help you take a totally safe trip.

Best sites to find a travel partner

9. tripgiraffe.

TripGiraffe website home page

TripGiraffe is one of the most comprehensive websites on our list, as it does its best not to leave room for ambiguities.

Upon registering, you’ll get to specify your budget, your target destinations, your preferred accommodation type, the languages you speak, and more. You can even let people know how you want to split expenses.

It works as a full-on social network for travelers where you can message users that seem to match your profile. TripGiraffe can do the hooking up for you as well if you want, connecting you to fellow travelers in 100+ countries.

On top of that, you can join an existing trip if finding the ideal travel buddy sounds like too much work. In other news, TripGiraffe maintains a blog with precious travel tips to help you prepare as you should when it’s time to hit the road.

10. JoinMyTrip

friends travel website

JoinMyTrip’s app is only available for Android users, which is why I’m listing it as a website instead.

Upon selecting among 8,000 destinations all over the planet, the platform will introduce you to members who want to discover that exact place too.

As its name suggests, JoinMyTrip also allows you to… well, join other people’s existing trips or create your own itinerary as a tripleader so other users will come along.

You can preset the dates and group size and estimate the total budget per tripmate, then wait for one or a few of the 160,000 members to hop on the boat.

One of the things that set JoinMyTrip apart from other similar solutions is its excellent customer service. The team advertises itineraries on Instagram daily and is always ready to answer your questions.

11. Women Welcome Women WorldWide

friends travel website

Women Welcome Women WorldWide’s promise is similar to Tourlina’s, as its name suggests. Women who don’t feel safe traveling alone or simply don’t want to do it can interact with other users to organize a trip together.

While the website is UK-based, women from all over the globe can register. You’ll be expected, however, to pay a $50 admission fee to help cover Women Welcome Women WorldWide’s maintenance costs.

Besides finding a partner to travel with, you can use the website to connect with a local in your next destination so she can show you around and keep you company as you explore her hometown.

WWWW currently has 1500 members in 40+ nations on all continents; it’s a relatively small but expanding community.

12. YourTravelMates

YourTravelMates home page

On YourTravelMates, travel is more of an excuse than the end goal. Founded about 30 years ago as TripTogether, the platform is present in over 40 nations and has as many as a million members worldwide.

Yet the focus here is more on finding a life partner rather than a travel buddy. The website’s purpose is to foster romance on a global scale. Still, tons of users are seeking friendship and companionship instead, just like most of the other entries on our list.

When looking for other users, you can narrow the results down according to gender, age, arrival dates, and destination.

You can then exchange e-letters or video chat with them until you eventually decide to meet up. Though YourTravelMates charges for these services, membership is 100% free.

Final thoughts

three women laugh at tulip field

As exciting and enlightening as traveling on your own can be, finding a travel partner can be a great way to ensure your trip will be safer, more affordable, and often more fun.

Through top-notch apps like Gaffl and Travello and websites like JoinMyTrip and TripTogether, you can connect with millions of globetrotters from across the planet and find a travel partner to see the world with you.

How to Find Travel Friends and Why you Need Them

September 26, 2019

Anna Hammerschmidt

Travel friends. What is a travel friend? How do I find them? Do I even need travel friends? Honestly, the concept of a travel friend was once bizarre to me. I have friends, really fantastic friends; friends who I love and support and would give the world for…but they don’t travel the world with me. Of course, if any of my friends wanted to travel with me, I am always up for an adventure. But, I realized I needed friends who had that same mentality. I need friends who not only want to travel, yet will actively say yes to adventure. And that is where travel friends come in.

Table of Contents

Why You Need Travel Friends

Before we delve into the how to find travel friends, I want to take a moment to say why I think you need travel friends. First and foremost, I am a huge activist of solo travel. If you want to take a trip, you do not need anyone to travel with. I actually enjoy solo travel and find it to be incredibly rewarding. And traveling solo is actually where I connected with many of my travel friends. Yet, sometimes it’s really nice to have someone to travel with.

I’ve met some incredible people over the years who have helped aid in great travel experiences and memories I will carry with me for a lifetime. From the girls I met on my study abroad trip to the friends I met while working as an au pair, I started off my travels with some pretty solid friendships. Soon enough, I started making friends via Instagram and through mutual travel friends. I have created this web of friends in far flung corners of the world, and that is something I will forever be grateful for. There is something very comfortable about knowing you have a friend who is down to travel or knowing that you can connect with friends while on the road.

Travel Friends

How to Find Travel Friends

Now lets get to the nitty gritty, finding travel friends. I mean, you can’t just put out an ad saying “travel companion needed” or “looking for a travel buddy”. Mind you, you need to put yourself in a position to make friends yet there are ways to find friends more organically. There are various ways to find travel friends. Some of these tactics, I have utilized myself. Others are tested tried and true.

Group Tours

A great way to make travel friends is through group tours. This is how I made my first few travel friends. Not only did we connect on the group tour, we ended up traveling together on various other instances. The group tour I did was through a study abroad program, yet there are plenty of companies who arrange group travel. Meeting people on group tours was one of the most organic ways I was able to make travel friends. When on a group tour, you quickly learn what type of travelers people are and discover if you are able to spend an extended period of time together. After being stuck on a tour bus with someone for a few days, trust me, you will know if you’re travel compatible.

One of the best parts about group travel is that it brings together like minded people. Chances are most the people who are on a group tour love to travel. Additionally, there are even tours geared towards specific demographics including young adults, singles and 50+, which make it even easier to find compatible travel friends.

Activities/ Excursions

If you are traveling independently, a great way to make travel friends is through organized group activities and excursions. Through all of my experiences with organized group activities and excursions, I have always made a friend to talk to. Even if these friends don’t translate to life long friends, it is nice to spend a day with like minded people. The best part about these organized excursions, whether they are a day trip, walking tour or activity is that everyone in the group shares an interest in the destination you are visiting or the activity at hand. There are tons of group activities and excursions on Get Your Guide .

Travel Buddies

Social Media

One of the best ways to meet travel friends is online. This literally goes against everything I was taught growing up about not talking to strangers online. Well, I talk to “strangers” online on a daily basis. In fact, I have made most of my recent friends online through social media. While I’m sure nothing is less comforting to my parents than me telling them I’m “meeting up with some friends I met on Facebook” or that “I just booked a trip with this girl I met on Instagram”, this is the society we are living in. And it works! But, you have to be a little smart about it. (i.e. Don’t get catfished).

How do you make travel friends online? Well, you’re not gonna just slide into someones DMs and book a trip together. You have to have some sort of established friendship first. Join Facebook groups that pertain to your travel interests or follow fellow travelers on Instagram who you connect with. Post and be social and get to know the people in these groups/platforms. You might just meet some great travel friends. Here are a few examples of how you can meet travel friends on social media.

Find Travel Friends

Instagram has become a very natural place for me to make friends on social media. Yet, this could be easier for me as a travel blogger . Over the years, I have followed other travelers on Instagram. After following each others adventures online and getting to know each other by watching stories, commenting and DM-ing, you truly feel like you know that person. So when the time comes to meet up with a fellow traveler you met on Instagram, whether it be for a cup of coffee if you’re in the same city or to book a trip together, it feels like you are meeting up with a lifelong friend. I never used Instagram with the intent to seek out friends, yet I am amazed by the incredible people I have met from that platform.

Facebook is perhaps the easiest social media platform to make friends on. With endless Facebook groups, you are bound to find a group that pertains to the type of traveler you are. There are groups for female travelers, cruisers, destination specific travels and so much more. Seriously, there is a group for almost everything on Facebook. And if there’s not, make one! You will absolutely find a group that fits your needs and interests on Facebook.

Facebook is one of the first platforms I made travel friends. When I was an au pair in Genoa, Italy , I used a local au pair group to make and meet up with friends for coffee, dinner and day trips. Facebook is especially useful for meeting up with new travel friends when you’re traveling solo. One of my favorite Facebook groups for female travelers is Girls Love Travel . I see daily threads where people are making plans to meet up around the world. Yet, as you are only having limited conversations in these groups, be sure to meet up with your new travel buddy in a public place.

Apps/Websites

I personally haven’t used apps or websites, aside from social media to make travel friends. Yet, there are some great resources out there. There are various apps and websites dedicated specifically to help you find travel buddies. Here are some of the best apps and websites out there to help you find travel friends.

Travello is free app which was designed as “a social network for travelers”. The main goal of this travel buddy app is to help you meet other travelers with similar interests who are near you.

Trip Together

Trip Together is a travel app/website that helps you meet up with other traveler during your travel plans.

Travel Sisters

Travel Sisters is a females only travel website that helps you connect with other female travelers around the world.

Meet People While You’re Traveling

One of the best ways to make new friends in general is being open to conversations with people. While you’re traveling, be open to meeting new people. If you’re approachable and conversational, you may just make a new travel buddy. Whether you are traveling solo or with someone, try to strike up a conversation when you are at an attraction, in transit or grabbing a drink. You never know who you may meet or the friendships you can establish. Here are a few examples of places you can meet friends while traveling:

Travel Friends

I tend to meet a lot of people while flying or on a train. Something about sitting next to someone for hours makes for a great place to establish a friendship. If they’re headed to the same destination, you may decide to meet up and explore that place together.

At your Accommodations

Your accommodations are a great place to meet people while traveling, whether that is meeting other travelers or locals. If you are staying in a room of an Air Bnb, you may be able to connect with your host or other travelers staying there. Hostels are known to be a great place to make travel friends as you may be sharing a bedroom or common space with other solo travelers. (Truthfully, I have never stayed at a hostel… but feel like that it has been a missed opportunity for making travel friends). Lastly, some hotels are even good to meet fellow travelers. While some people in these accommodations may want to relax and keep to themselves, there will be people who are looking to talk to other travelers. Head to the common spaces, bar or hotel lounge and you may run into someone who is looking for a travel friend.

At Attractions

Standing in line to enter an attraction can take a long time. Take a moment to chat with the people near you. If you’re going to wait in line to get into a palace or museum, you might as well spend that time getting to know the people who are waiting with you.

Current Friends / Family

Last but not least, find travel friends in your current social pool. While it is always great to meet new friends, don’t underestimate your current friends and family. My family and friends have been some of my favorite travel companions. There may be someone in your family or friend group who would love to travel with you. Keep in mind, you may want to go on a short trip to test the waters first. There’re some people who simply are not travel compatible.

If going solo isn’t your thing, meeting travel buddies is a great way to enjoy a shared adventure. Social networks and online platforms are the easiest ways to find friends before your trip. Once you’re there, meeting people can be as easy as taking public tours or just going out alone and striking up a conversation. Look for certain traits in a travel buddy so you know you’ll both have a great time exploring a new place together.

Finding Travel Buddies Online

Step 1 Post your plans on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

  • Be sure to include the dates of your trip, the destination, and some info about what you’d like to see and do.
  • Encourage friends to tag other people who might be interested in the comments section.
  • You can also search for existing travel groups on Facebook to see if anyone is up for an adventure.

Step 2 Ask your friends and family if they know anyone at your destination.

  • If you’re going someplace close to where an extended family member lives, you might consider planning a day to go see them or, if it’s not a hassle for them, extending an invitation for them to join you.

Step 3 Sign up for a free online travel-buddy platform.

  • GAFFL connects you with potential travel buddies who share a similar itinerary with similar costs and experiences.
  • TripTogether allows you to find travel buddies based on your itinerary and meet locals at your destination.
  • Trip Giraffe is a website and app that lets you search for travel buddies by gender, age, destination, and dates and filter the results by interests.
  • TravelSisters is a female-only platform that connects you to other female travelers who share the same interests.

Step 4 Use Global Greeter Network to have a local show you the ropes.

  • It's free to book a greeter—they're excited to show off the hidden gems of the city!
  • You'll need to book a greeter at least 14 days in advance.

Step 5 Search for events in your destination on Meetup.com.

  • You can also search for meetup groups to find people to go out to dinner or drinks with. For instance, if you're vegan but don't know the plant-based spots in Montreal, join a vegan dining group based in Montreal.

Step 6 Search for events on Facebook in the area where you’re going.

  • If you discover you have lots of shared friends with some of the people going, don’t be afraid to reach out to them.

Step 7 Rent a room on Airbnb to stay with a knowledgeable, friendly host.

  • Be sure to read the host’s description on the listing to see if they’re the type of person you’d like to spend time with on your trip.

Meeting People at Your Destination

Step 1 Take a local day tour to meet other tourists.

  • Don't be shy about greeting others on the tour.
  • Asking someone to take a photo of you or offering to take their photo is a great opener.
  • It’s easier to meet more people on a tour that involves some type of physical movement because you aren’t limited to talking to the few people sitting around you.

Step 2 Stay in a hostel and get to know other guests while in the common areas.

  • Ask others about what activities they plan on doing, if they know about any local events, or just make small talk. This is a great way to make lifelong friends while on a trip!
  • Some hostels have event calendars posted about movie nights, pub crawls, and site tours too!

Step 3 Strike up a conversation as you wait for a walking tour to begin.

  • To find free walking tours, go to freetoursbyfoot.com.

Step 4 Take a class and get to know your classmates.

  • Dance, photography, cooking, and language classes will also give you a more intimate experience with a city's unique culture.
  • If you're staying at a hotel or hostel, ask someone at the front desk where you should look for classes or if they know of any classes.

Step 5 Sign up to volunteer for a local cause to meet fellow volunteers.

  • You might also consider booking your trip with a travel organization that offers volunteer trips (most also incorporate leisure days).
  • If you have special expertise in particular fields (like nursing, teaching, cooking, or engineering) tailor your search to those topics.

Step 6 Approach random people and be approachable yourself.

  • Be cautious and wise about who you approach or who approaches you in particular areas or at particular times of the day. For instance, if a seemingly inebriated man approaches you in a seedy area of town and offers to squire you about, think twice before continuing the conversation.

Ensuring a Good Match

Step 1 Determine whether or not you share the same interests.

  • It's okay for you to not share all the same interests. For example, if they don't want to go on a walking tour with you, let them know it's cool for them to do their own thing and you can meet up later.

Step 2 Compare your lifestyles (and traveling styles) to ensure a good match.

  • Do you get stressed out if you miss a train or do you laugh and enjoy the wait?
  • Do you like to plan out your days or do you prefer to walk around and see what happens?
  • If we meet a local, are you cool with joining up with them or would you rather keep to yourself?
  • Do you like to stay out late or do you prefer to wake up with the sunrise?

Step 3 Confirm that your schedules work out so you can spend time together.

  • Start by comparing the details of your trip that are not able to be changed easily, such as arrival and departure dates and times, check-in and check-out times, and any activities that you had to book in advance for.

Step 4 Make sure your budgets align before you agree to travel together.

  • It's ideal to split everything evenly or work out your finances before the trip.

Step 5 Understand that there is no perfect travel buddy.

  • Be open and honest and practice active listening when talking through disagreements.

Expert Q&A

  • Be considerate of your travel buddy’s routines and express that they respect yours. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Do an equal amount of legwork when it comes to finding the cost and schedules for certain activities; don’t monopolize the program or rely on your travel buddy to do all the planning. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

Hilton For The Stay

Go Hilton Team Member travel program

Booking a go hilton stay.

Eligible Team Members and their authorized family / friends must each log in at the Go Hilton booking site with their own Hilton Honors sign-in and password to manage their own reservations.

Tips for Finding Go Hilton Rates

Use the flexible dates feature.

  • Search for a 1-night stay and click the 'My dates are flexible' box, which will let you see rate availability day-by-day in a calendar view for each hotel you select.
  • Ex: If you searched for 3 nights, but only 2 of the nights have the discount available, the search would come up empty. If you do a 1-night search and use flexible dates, you could see availability day-by-day and see the discount for 2 of the 3 nights, which you could book separately if needed.

Mix and match rates

  • Ex: Team Member rate might be available for 1 night and not the next, but the Family & Friends rate might be available for the other night.
  • If searching for 2 rooms doesn't work, try searching for only 1 room as there may be only one room available at the discounted rate on that particular night.

Be flexible

  • Try to book as far in advance as possible to take advantage of all potential availability. If you don't find what you're looking for right away, come back often. Go Hilton rate availability is based on forecasted occupancy, which can change frequently.
  • More rooms might become available closer to the desired stay date, especially within 60 days of arrival, since stay dates farther out in the calendar may be more limited and are often booked quickly.
  • Consider searching for popular destinations during various seasons or nights of the week when availability may be more plentiful.
  • Plan trips around when you find availability for the discounted rates.

Checking in & staying with Go Hilton Rates

  • Team Members must be present at check-in and for the duration of Team Member rate and Family & Friends rate stays booked in their name and Hilton Honors account.
  • Authorized family and friends must be present at check-in and for the duration of Family & Friends rate stays booked in their name and Hilton Honors account.
  • Non-Team Members, family/friends, etc., cannot use Team Member rates.
  • Authorized family/friends can travel without the authorizing Team Member when staying under their own Family & Friends rates, but the family/friends do need to make their own reservations by signing into the Go Hilton booking site with their own Hilton Honors account.

Number of rooms per stay

  • For each hotel stay, eligible Team Members may reserve up to 2 Team Member rate rooms and 2 Family & Friends rate rooms, for a total of up to 4 rooms in their own name and Hilton Honors number.
  • Team Members’ approved family / friends may reserve up to 2 Family & Friends rate rooms per hotel stay (family / friends must make their own bookings with their own Hilton Honors account).
  • "Extra” Team Member and “Extra” Family & Friends rates are combined with and treated like “regular” Team Member and Family & Friends rates for the maximum number of rooms per stay.
  • Program users may not book rooms for themselves at different hotels for the same stay dates regardless of the rate booked.

Number of nights per stay

  • Eligible Team Members can book up to seven consecutive nights at Team Member rates and up to seven consecutive nights at Family & Friends rates.
  • Approved family/friends may book a Family & Friends rate for seven consecutive nights.

Annual allotment of room nights

  • Each eligible Team Member can book and / or use up to 30 room nights per calendar year under Team Member rates and up to 70 room nights per calendar year under Family & Friends rates, for a total of 100 room nights per calendar year.
  • Each room counts as 1 room night.
  • Usage of Family & Friends room nights by approved family / friends counts against the 70 Family & Friends room nights total.
  • "Extra" Team Member rates and "Extra" Family & Friends rates do not count against the annual room night allotments.

Hilton Honors Points, stay credit, & hotel benefits

Go Hilton Team Member and Family & Friends rate stays are eligible to earn Hilton Honors Points on both room rates and incidentals and stay credit toward the next tier status, based on Hilton Honors terms and conditions. Hilton Honors members are eligible for all standard Hilton Honors hotel benefits when staying under Go Hilton rates, including room upgrades at check-in based on tier status and hotel availability.

Hilton Honors Relocation & Recovery (Walk Policy)

Occasionally, a hotel may find itself in an overbooked situation. All Go Hilton Team Member and Family & Friends rate reservations in such situations are to be honored as any other reservation for a Hilton Honors member; Hilton Honors Relocation & Recovery policies apply the same to Team Member and Family & Friends reservations as to any other reservation type for overbooked situations. The guest should be relocated to another local hotel within a reasonable distance with all the usual Hilton Honors walk benefits based on the guest's tier status.

Code of Conduct

  • Eligible participants traveling under the  Go Hilton travel programs are bound to the Hilton Code of Conduct. Eligible Participants are expected to embody Hilton Values and uphold the exceptional reputation of Hilton during every stay at member properties. Eligible Participants will be held accountable for any undue duress placed on the hosting property. Behavior inconsistent with program rules and our HILTON Values may result in loss of these privileges and disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Family and Friends of Eligible Participants who use the Family & Friends Travel Program are also a reflection of the Eligible Participant. Any inappropriate behavior by Family and Friends may also result in loss of these privileges for the family/friend and the Eligible Participant.
  • Access to Go Hilton discounts may not be sold, auctioned, bartered, brokered, purchased, or otherwise transferred.  Any Go Hilton discounts obtained in this manner will be considered to have been fraudulently obtained and deemed void, resulting in cancellation of the reservations.  This applies to Go Hilton Team Member rates and Family & Friends rates. All such activity is strictly prohibited and will result in loss of Go Hilton privileges for the applicable Team Member and/or Family & Friends and can also result in disciplinary action for the Team Member, up to and including termination. Such fraudulent activity will also lead to closure of the applicable Hilton Honors accounts and forfeiture of any Hilton Honors Points, stay credits, or other related rewards associated with those accounts.
  • The following actions will be taken by the Program for any Hilton Honors members who are fraudulently added to a Team Member's Family & Friends list and/or who fraudulently book or use a Team Member's Family & Friends rate room nights without the Team Member's knowledge and consent:  their Go Hilton / Family & Friends rate reservations will be cancelled by the Program; their Hilton Honors account will be closed; and they will forfeit any Hilton Honors Points, stay credits, or other related rewards associated with that Hilton Honors account. The Program will monitor such fraudulent Hilton Honors members going forward, and such fraudulent activity on any new Hilton Honors account the members open will lead to the same treatment as above on the new accounts.
  • Team Members should inform all family and friends they authorize to use the program of the Go Hilton Code of Conduct and all Program Rules.

  • Turn it on and set it to New Zealand.
