Hot Chip: Tiny Desk Concert

Even though it was the band's first visit to the Tiny Desk, Hot Chip 's performance felt like a homecoming — a sweet return to some of the instruments the group first created its signature, playful sound with. Hot Chip's "tiny instruments," as lead vocalist Alexis Taylor called them, fit right into the space.

The members of Hot Chip arrived at NPR HQ each dressed in a different colored top, their bright and brilliant looks matching the music's classic electro-pop vibe. The band, joined by Jonny Lam on pedal steel guitar (who played a Tiny Desk previously with Sinkane ), began the set with two tracks from its 2006 album, The Warning , including "Over and Over" and "Boy from School." The latter of the two, Taylor explained, was written on the Casio keyboard that both Taylor and guitarist Rob Smoughton play in this set. Then the band slows it down a bit with "Look at Where We Are," before ending with the classic "Ready for the Floor."

And speaking of bringing the perfect look, after the show, Taylor got out an on-theme top: an NPR-branded sweatshirt that he asked us all to sign. It was a rare, tender and probably once-in-a-lifetime moment when one of your favorite bands is asking you to sign merch.

Hot Chip Will Have North America Ready For The Floor Again On Their Newly Announced 2022 Tour

Longevity is a difficult thing for electro pop bands to sustain and with seven full length LPs since 2004 and multiple compilation releases, Hot Chip have never made a bad album. One of the most consistent bands in the business , they’ve been rocking concert halls for almost 20 years and put on one of the best live shows out there. Ubiquitous hits like “Over and Over,” “Ready For The Floor,” and “Flutes” stack up masterfully on the dance floor to more recent cuts like “Huarache Lights” and “Hungry Child.” The constant is a full-on release of emotions and the urge to dance that emanates from the speakers.

Now they’re heading back on tour in North America for the first time since 2019 when they toured A Bath Full Of Ecstasy. It’s yet another eclectic mix of concert halls including rooms they’ve never played before, and even new venues that hadn’t been established yet when they last toured. It’s a testament to the unique live experience that Hot Chip strives for at every stop.

About Hot Chip

Hot Chip are an English synth-pop band formed in London in 2000. The group consists of multi-instrumentalists Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke, and Felix Martin. They are occasionally supplemented by Rob Smoughton and Sarah Jones for live performances and studio recordings. The group primarily produces music in the synth-pop and alternative dance genres, drawing influences from house and disco.

Hot Chip began as a bedroom recording project for Taylor and Goddard, who met while students at Elliott School, Putney; their earliest lineup included Smoughton as their drummer. After completing two EPs, Mexico (2001) and San Frandisco (2002), the group released their debut album, Coming on Strong (2004) and added Doyle, Clarke, and Martin to their lineup. The band's second album, The Warning (2006), was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Their follow-up, Made in the Dark (2008), included the single "Ready for the Floor", which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. The band have subsequently released the albums One Life Stand (2010), In Our Heads (2012), Why Make Sense? (2015), and A Bath Full of Ecstasy (2019).

Outside of Hot Chip, the band members, individually and in partnership with each other, are active in other musical acts and occasionally perform DJ sets.

ASIA Announces 'The Heat Of The Moment' July 2024 U.S. Tour

ASIA has announced "The Heat of The Moment Tour" , headlined by ASIA and also featuring FOCUS , Martin Turner (ex- WISHBONE ASH ) and CURVED AIR and MC'd by artist Roger Dean .

The trek will commence on July 3, 2024 and will incorporate 21 dates across the USA and Canada.

The tour has been masterminded by rock music keyboard legend and original ASIA member Geoff Downes ( BUGGLES , YES ).

"Asia" was the biggest selling album of 1982, No. 1 on Billboard for nine weeks and pioneers of the MTV era. Downes 's brand new iteration of ASIA first began to evolve last summer at the concert held in memory of late lead singer, songwriter and bassist John Wetton ( KING CRIMSON , ROXY MUSIC , URIAH HEEP , WISHBONE ASH , UK , ASIA , JOHN WETTON BAND , ICON ). Downes invited old friend John Mitchell ( IT BITES , FROST, LONELY ROBOT , KINO , JOHN WETTON BAND , ICON ) and newcomer Harry Whitley to join him on stage to celebrate Wetton 's life by performing some of the classic ASIA hits. Such was the uproarious reception to their set, that Downes wondered if something magical was beginning to take shape.

"And so it was that the John Wetton tribute last August really reminded me how much ASIA 's music belongs on the stage," Geoff said. "The response to it all was literally…spine-tingling."

Downes 's new-look ASIA will once again feature Mitchell on guitars and Whitley on lead vocal and bass. The quartet will be made complete by the addition of Virgil Donati ( UK , SOUTHERN SONS , STEVE VAI , ALLAN HOLDSWORTH ) on drums.

Downes continues: "With the addition of Virgil Donati and John Mitchell , two of the finest musicians in the world in their respective classes, this is almost going full circle bearing in mind their previous close collaborations with John W . Completing this circle is also the amazing Harry Whitley who absolutely floored the audience with his incredible vocal interpretation of the ASIA songs that John W and I so lovingly wrote over the years."

The tour will also feature sets from other classic acts FOCUS , Turner and CURVED AIR . All three support acts boast their founder bandleaders and have deservedly attained the status of legend.

FOCUS will release a brand new studio album later in 2024. Led by the indomitable Sir Thijs Van Leer , it features original 1970s drummer Pierre Van Der Linden , plus the virtuoso talents of Menno Gootjes on guitar and Udo Pannekeet on bass.

Martin Turner was lead vocalist, bassist, founding member and creative force behind 1970s rock music behemoth WISHBONE ASH , best known for such classic albums as "Argus" and "Pilgrimage" .

Formed in 1970, CURVED AIR are one of the founders of progressive rock and a retrospective collection of their most influential and ground-breaking material is currently in the planning stages. Sonja Kristina (vocals) and Kirby Gregory (guitar) will treat audiences to an acoustic set featuring some of the band's most memorable musical moments. They will be joined by violinist Grzegorz Gadziomski .

Each performance on the tour will be MC'd by legendary artist Roger Dean . For so many, Dean 's artwork is synonymous with the music of the time and stands to represent the very best of British rock music.

The final word goes to Geoff Downes : "I am convinced that John 's [ Wetton ] spirit is with us as we set out on this new adventure. After all, it is the Year Of The Dragon — just as it was in 1982, when we released our first ASIA album. It's as though it was meant to be. Looking forward to seeing you there, my friends — bring it on!”

Billie Eilish Announces Dates For Hit Me Hard And Soft 2024-2025 World Tour

Billie Eilish announced the dates the world tour in support of her third album on Monday (April 29). The Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour is slated to kick off on Sept. 29 at the Centre Videotron in Quebec and take the singer across North America through late December, with stops in Toronto, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, Newark, Boston and Pittsburgh before a three night-stint at Madison Square Garden (Oct. 16-18) and two nights at State Farm Arena in Atlanta (Nov. 2-3).

The Tour in support of Hit Me Hard and Soft (May 17) will continue to criss-cross the nation, hitting Nashville, Cincinnati, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Portland and San Jose before winding down with two shows at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA on Dec. 16-17. Eilish will then hop to Australia for a run of shows in Brisbane (Feb. 18, 19, 21, 22), Sydney (Feb. 24, 25, 27, 28) and Melbourne (March 4, 5, 7, 8).

The dates will pick up again in April 2025 for a European run of shows on the Live Nation-promoted tour that will keep the singer on the road through a July 27 gig at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. Tickets for the tour will go on sale beginning with an American Express presale on Tuesday (April 30), with additional presales slate for the rest of the week. Any remaining tickets will be available during a general onsale starting May 3 here .

The tour will feature a number of sustainability efforts, including the continuation of Eilish's long-running partnership with environmental nonprofit Reverb, which has so far resulted in $1 million in donations to environmental, greenhouse gas reduction and climate justice projects according to a release announcing the dates. On the upcoming tour sustainability efforts will include reducing greenhouse gas pollution, decreasing single-use plastic waste, supporting climate action and updating concession offerings to promote plant-based food options.

In addition, a portion of ticket proceeds from sales in North America will go to Reverb to support its efforts to address food insecurity and the climate crisis. There will also be a Billie Eilish Reverb eco village set up on two locations on the main concourse of every show where fans can participate in the tour's sustainability efforts and connect with nonprofits.

Support + Feed will also continue their previous collaboration with Eilish and offer an expanded version of their Support+Feed Pledge aimed at inspiring fans to eat one plant-based meal a day for 30 days. Eilish's fans are being encouraged to take public transportation and/or carpool to shows to reduce their carbon footprint and to bring an empty reusable water bottle or donate to receive a custom RockNRefill Nalgene bottle they can fill up for free at water refill stations at every venue. Eilish is also encouraging fans to fight the tremendous waste caused by fast fashion by dressing up for the gigs in thrifted, upcycled or borrowed clothes instead of buying new ones.

In an effort to keep tickets out of the hands of scalpers, the tour is using Ticketmaster's Face Value Exchange, which will allow fans who purchase tickets for the North American tour they can't attend to resell them to other fans at the original price; click here to find out more about this program.

LOS ANGELES , May 1, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- The legendary HOT ROD Power Tour Driven by Continental Tire is celebrating 30 years of hosting the country's most epic traveling car show at five venues across the Southeast and Midwest this June, including new stops at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio and L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium in Louisville, Ky. As America's largest traveling car show, more than 6,000 cars and trucks of all years, makes and models will be on display for tens of thousands of automotive enthusiasts during this milestone event. The five-city, five-day tour will feature over 1,000 miles of driving, with adrenaline-fueled events including drag racing, autocross and live entertainment. HOT ROD Power Tour Driven by Continental Tire Schedule: The tour will tap into each city's long-standing history of automotive culture, winding through factories in America's heartland (General Motors, Ford) before culminating in Indianapolis – the racing capital of the world.

KICKOFF / Day 1 : Monday, June 10 – Beech Bend Raceway Park, Bowling Green, Ky.

Day 2 : Tuesday, June 11 – Nashville Superspeedway, Lebanon, Tenn.

Day 3 : Wednesday, June 12 – L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium, Louisville, Ky.

Day 4 : Thursday, June 13 – National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio

Registration Information and Spectator Tickets: All vehicles and spectators must pre-register before arriving at the first venue they attend. Spectators can come out and witness the HOT ROD Power Tour spectacle at no gate admission cost but must register for a free ticket at www.hotrodpowertour.us . Spectator parking is located away from the show grounds and parking charges may apply in some locations.

30 Years of HOT ROD Power Tour This year's 30 th HOT ROD Power Tour marks the start of a new era for HOT ROD, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023 with the launch of HOT ROD's digital archives and the HOT ROD Pod: Where It All Began podcast. Colde announces 2024 ‘Blueprint’ North America tour

South Korean singer Colde has announced his upcoming 2024 ‘Blueprint’ North America tour, featuring concerts in Boston, Houston, Los Angeles and more.

Today (April 30), Colde revealed the cities and venues for his massive 20-date 2024 North America tour, titled ‘Blueprint’, which will features concerts in both the US and Canada.

The singer will kick off his tour on August 15 with a show at The Fillmore Minneapolis in Minnesota. It will be followed by concerts in states on the East Coast, including New York, Maryland and Florida. In the same month, he will also perform in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal.

In September 2024, Colde will bring his ‘Blueprint’ North America tour to the rest of the US, notably with four shows in California and two concerts in Texas, among others. The singer will then wrap up his tour with a final concert in Vancouver on the 21st.

Tickets to Colde’s 2024 ‘Blueprint’ North America tour will go on sale this Friday (May 3) at 10am local time via Ticketmaster.
