Today, iconic hitmakers Train and REO Speedwagon have announced they will be joining forces for this summer’s hottest co-headlining tour. The diamond-selling bands will be hitting the road on the Summer Road Trip 2024 Tour , bringing together Train’s critically-acclaimed catalog of global hits with REO Speedwagon’s vast collection of timeless classics for an unforgettable night of music, high energy, and fun that transcends generations. To celebrate the highly anticipated Summer Road Trip 2024 Tour , Train and REO Speedwagon will take the stage at LA’s famed Whisky a Go Go nightclub on the Sunset Strip this Thursday, February 1 for an intimate sneak preview concert that is not to be missed. Tickets for the show go on sale today at 12pm PT here . Additionally, the bands will be stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live! this Wednesday, January 31 for a very special collaboration, which marks their first-ever performance together on stage. Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on ABC at 11:35p/10:35c, and is available next day on Hulu.

Jimmy Kimmel Calls USA ‘A Filthy and Disgusting Country’ After Trip to Japan: ‘The Whole Country Is Disneyland and We’re Living in Six Flags’ | Video

Most of the time, you’re excited to return home after a vacation. That wasn’t the case after Jimmy Kimmel’s recent trip to Japan with his family.

“After traveling to Japan, I realize that this place, this USA we’re always chanting about, is a filthy and disgusting country,” the host said on Monday night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

The ABC host admitted that before spending seven days in Japan, he believed America was a country that had its faults and “areas for improvement,” but that it was “pretty buttoned up” compared to the rest of the world.

“I go to Europe, and there are dirt holes where plumbing is supposed to be. I hold my breath, and I go, ‘I’m glad I’m not one of these people,’ and then I go back home,” Kimmel explained. That wasn’t the case when it came to the Land of the Rising Sun.

“It’s like the whole country is Disneyland and we’re living at Six Flags,” Kimmel said. “I’ve been home 36 hours, I have never felt dirtier. We are like hogs compared to the Japanese. I can’t imagine what they must think of us. ‘Oh, the garbage people. Yes, the Americans. Garbage.'”

The late-night host said that he didn’t encounter a single dirty bathroom during his time in the country.

“The bathrooms in Tokyo and Kyoto are cleaner than our operating rooms here. Everywhere you go the bathrooms are clean, they don’t smell bad, they have those toilets that wash you from the inside out,” Kimmel said. He then said the truck stop bathrooms were “cleaner than Jennifer Garner’s teeth — the cleanest.”

Kimmel was also in awe of the cultural norm in Japan where people carry their own trash. Public trash cans were largely removed from the country following a 1995 sarin gas attack, where terrorists utilized the bins in the Tokyo subway system.

Jimmy Kimmel live in Idaho: comedian buys fly fishing lodge

Kimmel and angler Oliver White purchased the South Fork Lodge near Swan Valley , according to the Wall Street Journal . The paper reported the lodge will undergo an update, and when it reopens next year for the fly fishing season, it will include “fishing art and books from Kimmel’s personal collection.”

“My 6-year-old and I went and bought an RV, and then I loaded the whole family into it and we drove up to Idaho,” he said. “   It was quite an adventure. It was really like an ’80s movie, but it was fun.”

The sales price of the lodge wasn’t disclosed, but owners listed it for just shy of $8 million in 2019.

RVing has become so popular that even Hollywood Celebrities are buying trailers and motorhomes.

Late-night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel, is among the RVers with fame and fortune. Despite his notoriety, he can’t escape poor RV quality – a plight the everyman knows well.

Today we’re spilling the tea about what he travels in and how Kimmel perceives its roadworthiness. 

Here’s What Kimmel Said About His RV

Last week Kimmel hosted Kristen Bell on his late-night show. Bell & husband, Dax Shepard, recently bought a million-dollar motorhome .

In fact, Bell and her family met up with Kimmel to caravan with their RVs in Idaho. During their exchange, Kimmel said parking next to Bell’s RV was “humiliating.”

And Bell quickly responded, “Only because you’ve got a Minnie Winnie.”

Kimmel follows up by saying, “I’m going to be honest, mine’s a piece of junk. It breaks. The latches come off. It’s garbage…They didn’t tell me that when I bought it. That’s for sure.”

The pain and suffering wasn’t lost on Kimmel.

Kristen Bell said she and Dax blew out six tires on their road trip. However, Dax was carrying a full weight bench set up in the storage bays.

Prior to a recent visit to Japan, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel saw the United States as a country that, despite having its faults and “areas for improvement,” was “pretty buttoned up,” compared to the rest of the world. That opinion changed following a few days in Tokyo and Kyoto.

Jimmy Kimmel Praises Japan’s Restrooms  

“After traveling to Japan, I realize that this place, this USA we’re always chanting about, is a filthy and disgusting country,” said the comic during his opening monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!  “We were in Japan for seven days. Not only did I not encounter a single dirty bathroom, the bathrooms in Tokyo and Kyoto are cleaner than our operating rooms here.  

“Everywhere you go, the bathrooms are clean,” continued Kimmel. “They don’t smell bad. They have those toilets that wash you from the inside out. And not just in the hotel: restaurants, bars, truck stops. I went to two truck stops, I swear to god the bathrooms were cleaner than Jennifer Garner’s teeth. Beautiful. And it’s not just the bathrooms. There’s no litter. People carry their own trash.”

Japan’s ‘Outstanding Cleanliness’  

Japan’s reputation for cleanliness is well-known around the globe. In recent years, much has been made of Japanese supporters tidying up stadiums at the soccer and rugby world cups, with the players doing likewise in the dressing rooms. Tourists visiting here regularly comment on how clean it is and are also often fascinated by the advanced features in the restrooms. “Outstanding cleanliness” was one of the reasons given by Condé Nast Traveler magazine for visiting Japan. Last year, readers of the publication voted it as the “ Best Country in the World .”  

Kimmel didn’t go that far, but he was certainly impressed by what he saw here. “It’s like the whole country is Disneyland, and we’re living in Six Flags,” said the host of this year’s Academy Awards . “I’ve been home 36 hours and I’ve never felt dirtier. We are like hogs compared to the Japanese. I can’t imagine what they must think of us. Oh, the garbage people, yes, the Americans, garbage.”

Who is Don Hankey, the billionaire whose insurance firm provided Trump a $175 million bond payment?

Former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants in his New York civil fraud case on Monday posted a bond of $175 million , following a judge's ruling that they had for years misrepresented the value of his properties. The bond is underwritten by an insurance company run by a billionaire, who got his start making high-risk, high-interest loans to car buyers with poor credit.

Don Hankey, the executive whose company provided the bond, is a little-known mogul who built his $7.4 billion fortune through car dealerships and providing subprime auto loans, according to Forbes magazine . That makes him richer than Trump, whom Forbes estimates is worth $6.4 billion, including his multibillion stake in the newly public Trump Media & Technology Group.

Hankey, who told The Associated Press he has never met nor spoken with Trump, said his Knight Speciality Insurance company provided both cash and bonds as collateral for Trump's appellate bond. That bond is now essentially a placeholder that will guarantee payment if the judgment against Trump is upheld on appeal. 

"This is what we do at Knight Insurance, and we're happy to do this for anyone who needs a bond," Hankey told the wire service. 

Hankey didn't immediately respond to CBS MoneyWatch's request for comment.

Who is Don Hankey?

Hankey, 80, got started in the auto industry when his father bought a stake in a Ford dealership in Los Angeles in 1958. A teenager at the time, Hankey started out washing cars during the summer, but later stepped into a salesman role, he told the Los Angeles Business Journal last year. 

While Hankey was studying finance at the University of Southern California, his father died and his family lost its stake in the car dealership. But a few years after Hankey's graduation, his family repurchased the dealership with a $250,000 loan.

How did Hankey get into the car loans business?

After buying the dealership, Hankey courted buyers that other car sellers often rejected: subprime borrowers. His dealership provided the loans, unlike other car dealers which typically turn to banks to provide financing for auto purchases. 

Hankey told the Los Angeles Business Journal that his showroom was often filled with people arguing over terms they believed were unfavorable.

"We had beefs going on, and at the same time people coming in, buying cars," Hankey said . "But it all worked. And you would think that somebody buying a car would hate to see somebody else arguing about a payment, but it didn't seem to matter."

What other businesses does Hankey own?

Hankey expanded beyond auto dealerships when he realized that there was demand for subprime auto loans outside of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal. 

He incorporated Westlake Financial Services, which Forbes said now works with more than 30,000 car dealerships across the U.S. to provide auto loans to people with poor credit histories. Westlake is now part of the Hankey Group, which also oversees other financial services companies, including Knight Insurance Group, the enterprise that provided Trump's bond. 

Is Hankey a Trump supporter?

Hankey told Bloomberg News he voted for Trump, but said that his support for the real estate developer didn't play into his decision to extend the bond. 

"Yes, I voted for him in the past, but this is a business deal and this is what we do," Hankey told the publication. "I have never met Donald Trump, nor talked to him on the phone."

Hankey has been a generous donor to political candidates, almost exclusively Republicans, including Donald Trump. Leading up to the 2016 presidential election, Hankey and his wife gave $80,000 to the Trump Victory Fund, with $5,400 going to the Trump campaign and the rest to the Republican National Committee, according to Open Secrets.

Axos Bank, in which Hankey is one of the biggest non-institutional investors, provided the funding to refinance Trump Tower and take out a $100 million loan in 2022, when the Trump Organization's real estate valuations were under scrutiny due to the New York fraud case , Bloomberg reported. Hankey told the publication he wasn't aware of the deal until after it was completed.

How does the $175 million bond work?

Appeal bonds are used when a defendant appeals a court ruling, which essentially freezes enforcement of the financial judgment as the legal process continues.

Insurers typically provide the bond after they have proof of collateral and charge a fee, which ranges from 1% to 2% of the bond amount, according to insurance broker NFP. That means Trump could be paying as much as $3.5 million on an annual basis for the bond guarantee from Knight Insurance. 

If Trump wins his appeal of the ruling, he won't have to pay the state anything and will get his money back.

"As promised, President Trump has posted bond. He looks forward to vindicating his rights on appeal and overturning this unjust verdict," said one of Trump's lawyers, Alina Habba.

The late-night host Jimmy Kimmel said observing hygiene standards in Japan drastically changed his perspective of cleanliness in the US and that he'd "never felt dirtier" in his home country.

Kimmel said Tuesday evening on an episode of " Jimmy Kimmel Live! " that before going to Japan on a seven-day family trip, he thought the US was "pretty buttoned-up" despite having areas for improvement.

"But now, after traveling to Japan, I realize that this place, this USA we're always chanting about, is a filthy and disgusting country," he said.

Kimmel added that he was blown away, in particular, by Japan's bathrooms.

"Not only did I not encounter a single dirty bathroom, the bathrooms in Tokyo and Kyoto are cleaner than our operating rooms here," Kimmel said.

The TV star lauded the loos at Japanese truck stops, which he said were "cleaner than Jennifer Garner's teeth."

"It's like the whole country is Disneyland, and we're living at Six Flags. I've been home 36 hours. I've never felt dirtier," he said.

Kimmel added that he was impressed by how Tokyo residents didn't litter despite the lack of public trash cans, which were removed by local authorities in the wake of the 1995 sarin gas attacks .

"They're like, OK, no more trash cans. Everybody clean up after yourselves. And guess what? They clean up after themselves," Kimmel said.

"We are like hogs compared to the Japanese. I can't imagine what they must think of us," Kimmel said. "Oh, the garbage people. Yes, the Americans. Garbage. Yes."

Public bathrooms have become the source of tourist fascination in Japan, where toilets can come with automatic bidets, heated seats, sensors that take your pulse, and sound systems to mask the noise of flushing. In 2019, a Japanese toll operator installed public toilets on the Central Nippon Expressway that could measure driver fatigue .

Japan is typically known internationally for fostering a focus on cleanliness and hygiene. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Japanese national team made headlines for cleaning their dressing room after beating Germany 2-1 in an upset.

At the same tournament, FIFA praised Japanese fans for tidying up the local stadium after watching their matches.

Kimmel is one of tens of millions to recently visit Japan on vacation. A weak yen is thought to be fueling a tourism boom there, with government statistics saying tourists spent about $35.9 billion in 2023 .

Monthly visitor arrivals in Japan grew to 2.78 million in February , surpassing 2019 levels in what its tourism industry believes will be a continued, strong recovery from the COVID-19 health crisis.
