Kenny Chesney reveals what he texted Taylor Swift after her Person of the Year shout-out

kenny chesney tour rumors

When your career highlights include 32 No. 1 country singles, nearly 18 million concert tickets sold since 2002 and one of the most devout fan bases in any genre of music, you might feel like relaxing.

But despite his persona as a chill, hammock-hanging dude with a hat brim shading his eyes, Kenny Chesney remains admirably indefatigable.

On March 22, he releases “ Born ,” his 20th studio album filled with crowd-pleasing anthems (“One More Sunset,” “Guilty Pleasure”) as well as more introspective fare (“Wherever You Are Tonight”).

A few days later, Chesney turns 56 and the chronic workaholic figures he’ll spend the day in tour rehearsals, even though he could give himself the day off, being the boss and all.

This year’s touring romp, dubbed Sun Goes Down, kicks off April 20 in Tampa, Florida, and will wind through stadiums until a three-night stand at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts starts Aug. 25. Joining Chesney is another handpicked lineup: Established hitmakers Zac Brown Band and Uncle Kracker and CMA new artist and song of the year nominee Megan Moroney .

Chesney has much to discuss, so from his home in Tennessee he waxed philosophical about guilty pleasures, the benefit of ice tubs and how Taylor Swift has brought the world together.

Question: This is your 20th studio album and 30th anniversary since your debut. Does it feel like three decades have passed?

Kenny Chesney: No, it doesn’t. But in some ways, maybe (laughs). I truly love creating and see that as one of the biggest gifts in my life. The first two records I made with (producer) Barry Beckett and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and then I’ve been with (producer) Buddy Cannon ever since. I’ve been so blessed to have these people around me. I feel like because of that I wake up every day with a sense of purpose .

That is quite a guitar solo on the title track. Are you itching to play that song live?

At some point this summer it will make its way onto the stage. It was one of the first songs I cut for the project and I felt it was a perfect way to kick off record. It defines how we live our lives – the details and all the joy. It defines the euphoria of being alive and not making it harder than it has to be.

Let’s talk about “Guilty Pleasure.” Aside from it being a lighthearted validation of no-strings sex, it also has a breezy Jimmy Buffett feel to it. As a longtime admirer, do you feel like you’ll continue to preach the aesthetic that he created? (Post-interview, Chesney was announced as one of the artists in the lineup for the April 11 Keep the Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett concert at the Hollywood Bowl.)

I just try to go up there and do what we do and hope people come to our shows and have a great time. This song will help us continue that legacy. I felt like “Guilty” dives into the heart of human behavior. It was the last song I wrote for the record and it was a hard one to write. I felt like the song took the pressure off whatever the relationship is. It gives both people permission to just enjoy it. It’s honest and reckless in the best way and we had to write it in a way that didn’t make either person feel dirty.

On the other end of the emotional spectrum, does “Wherever You Are Tonight,” about loss and death, have a personal connection for you?

I’ve had a lot of friends pass. Some famous, some not. Some heroes, some not. This was a hard one. My friend Mike Reid wrote this song and I was struggling. I knew I wanted to record it, but it’s a topic that makes people uncomfortable. I would like to think there is something much bigger than all of us that we don’t understand. Those that have passed on are up there guiding us and looking after us and I don’t believe they’re gone. They linger in our lives and that’s what made the song. I engulfed myself in the song. The people I lost were so present in my psyche and my heart. They’re gone, but they’re not out of sight and I tried to channel that.

Taylor Swift gave you a huge shout-out in her Time Person of the Year profile . Were you surprised to find out how much that note and check you sent when she was starting out meant to her career pursuit at the time?

Yeah, I was. I texted her and told her thank you for the love, and I was stunned she remembered it. To see what she did with that and the person she is now and the artist she is now and the creator that she is now – it is unbelievable what she has become . I love Taylor. She has such a creative soul and that’s where all of this started. Everything you see, the stadium shows and big performances, are great. But she is still, I believe, at heart, a songwriter. That is something no one can deny. I saw that early, but I didn’t know it would turn into this. When she couldn’t do our tour (Chesney’s 2007 tour was sponsored by a beer company so the then-17 Swift couldn't join) and then she surprised me at a couple of shows and came onstage to sing with me, I saw that look in her eyes that you can’t teach. I told my promoter, “This child is going to be something one day.” But who can look into a crystal ball and know she would help bring the world together?

You have another stadium tour coming up. What is your preparation like?

I’m training really hard right now. I’m particular about what I eat. I’m on a treadmill. I’m morphing into this “other guy” and I love it. To do what I do and be good at it you have to have a little bit of ego. But if I had to carry that in my everyday life it wouldn’t be functional. I’m trying to get my brain and body and soul in a place where I can give everybody all of me.

So how exhausted are you by the end of the night?

I’m pretty depleted after each show . I really try to take care of myself now. I have a friend, (big wave surfer) Laird Hamilton , and he taught me a lot about my body as far as breathing habits. I’m mainly doing ice tubs. I beat my legs up so much on stage, so sometimes after shows I’ll sit in ice and let the band and crew do whatever they do (laughs). My life has really changed.

Kenny Chesney Plots 2022 Stadium Tour

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

Kenny Chesney has firmed up plans for a stadium tour that will kick off next spring. The Here and Now: 2022 Stadium Tour are Chesney’s first live dates to be announced since having to table his 2020 Chillaxification Tour last spring as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.

The Here and Now trek gets underway April 23rd at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, with many of the locations Chesney had previously announced for the Chillaxification Tour now on his 2022 itinerary. Those include Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium, and Arlington, Texas’ AT&T Stadium. “We’re calling the tour Here And Now 2022, because when we get together, there is  only  the present – and it’s so electric and good, I know I don’t want it to end,” Chesney said in a statement.

Chesney is one of a very small number of country artists gearing up for stadium-level tours. Garth Brooks will launch his in July 2021, with shows booked in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, and Nashville.

Kenny Chesney adds two new band members for HERE AND NOW Tour

kenny chesney tour rumors

Kenny Chesney | Photo Credit: Jill Trunnell

Any time Kenny Chesney takes a year off, he feels disconnected from the life that is No Shoes Nation. Proclaimed “The King of the Road” by the Wall Street Journal , there is something that happens when he takes one of country music’s most exceptional set of songs and shares them with the people who live their lives inside his many hits.

Given that it’s been three years since he’s played a full-on concert, when the four-time Country Music Association and four-time consecutive Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year hits the stage, he’s coming with everything he’s got. For those who are used to his high-velocity presence and shows that make people smile for days, Chesney decided to up the ante – and has added Keith Urban multi-instrumentalist Danny Rader on guitar and Col. Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit drummer Nick Buda .

“When we were looking at where to go, what to do next, it was interesting to see the chemistry with different people,” Chesney explains. “So many great musicians came out, which took all of us to a new place in how we see these songs, what they’re capable of. But in the end, because this is a band, not just a group of musicians who back someone up, what Danny and Nick brought was a freshness that hits hard and lifts everything up in some pretty great ways.

“Wyatt, Harmoni, Kenny Greenberg, and Jon are all still here – and bringing that magic like they always do. But adding the new players, they’re going to some pretty great places. We’ve not gone into the big room yet, but I can tell you from the run-throughs, it’s awesome.”

Buda, who left the jam band world to concentrate on session work, went to Boston’s acclaimed Berklee School of Music on the recommendation of Sting’s longtime drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. Rader, a three-time Academy of Country Music Award winner, most recently for 2017 Specialty Instrument(s) Player of the Year, plays bouzouki, mandolin, banjo and accordion as well as the electric guitar that’s tangled with Keith Urban live since 2010.

“When you’re playing as many different kinds of music as we’re actually playing every night – it’s rock, it’s reggae, it’s calypso and singer/songwriter stuff – having players who switch gears without people feeling it; using that chemistry really makes things electric onstage. We’re still in the early phases of this, but I think once we get out on those big stages, it’s going to be awesome with where these songs are going already.”

Here And Now 2022 kicks off April 23 at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. Presented by Blue Chair Bay Rum and fueled by MARATHON, the much anticipated tour reunites one of the most voracious fan bases with the East Tennessee songwriter/superstar whose songs have defined summer in the 21st Century. With an emphasis on electric guitars, a meaningful backbeat and enough joie du vivre to guarantee a good time no matter where you are in your life, Chesney’s tours have attracted over a million fans every year he’s engaged in an actual tour since 2002 – and this year, he’s on track to maintain that status.

SHAME ON YOU KENNY. THE TWO ON YOUR BAND WERE FIRED FOR NOT TAKING THE COVID SHOT…..SHAME ON YOU

Yup, and didn’t even do it himself. Basically had the manager call say are you getting the shot. If the answer is no then you are being replaced. Being in a band in a lot of ways is like being with a second family. You don’t treat family this way. It shows how much respect he has for his band members. Pretty much zero

It was not Kenny’s decision, it is required by the venues.

  • Pingback: What is the sandbar for Kenny Chesney? – Largeanswers

Well Carol Elliott…first off. It wasn’t the venues and second off it’s how Kenny handled it with two guys who have been with him for 25 and 20 years. He claims they are family but he didn’t have the common decency to talk to them and has his manager do the dirty work.

U people are all wrong!!! Get the facts right before u comment! And yes he did get himself vaccinated! ‍♀️

Kenny Chesney To Kick Off Tour April 20

Kenny Chesney  has been getting things ready for his upcoming Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour . It kicks off April 20 in Tampa and will make stops in cities such as Minneapolis, Syracuse, Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle, and Boise.

He’s involved with everything from sorting out the video to use, to what lights he wants on stage. And of course working up songs and rehearsing with his band is top priority. With the recent release of his new album,  Born , fans are sure to hear some of those songs live. We asked Kenny about his new record and he told us this:    “I think the best thing someone could say about this album Born is that it reflects me…is that it’s genuine, it’s not made-up and there’s just a lot of me on it. It’s a fun record to listen to. It’s an emotional record to listen to. It’s a mirror to my life and I think that’s what I would say when somebody asked me what do you want people to hear from this? What do  you hope they take away from it? And that would be it .” SOUNDCUE :23

Kenny Chesney Burns Up the Charts with His Latest Album ‘Born’

K enny Chesney released his latest album Born on March 22. Fans had been waiting impatiently for the East Tennessee native to release new music. When he did, they did not hesitate to show their appreciation. His new album is already burning up the Billboard charts and has plenty of time to climb. He could have another No. 1 album on his hands before it’s all said and done.

According to Billboard , Born will sit at No. 5 on the Hot Country Albums chart dated April 6. This makes his 22nd top 10 entry on the survey. The album also debuted at No. 1 on the publication’s all-genre Top Albums Sales chart. This feat gives Chesney an even dozen No. 1 albums on that chart. Born sold 27,000 equivalent units in its opening week. But wait, there’s more! Chesney’s latest album also sits at No. 20 on the all-genre Billboard 200 , giving him his 18th top 20 entry on that chart. In short, Chesney’s fans seem to be loving his new record.

Kenny Chesney Took His Time Making Born

Chesney didn’t rush to put out his latest album. Instead, he took time to carefully curate a collection of songs that represent the emotional spectrum that is life. In a recent interview , he said, “The way Born came together, I think it was less worrying about checking boxes or worrying about ‘What do we have?’ and more about the spirit of being creative.”

[RELATED: Kenny Chesney Embraced Creative Freedom in a Chaotic Time to Create His New Album ‘Born’]

Chesney also explained that he had been working on this album off and on since 2020. During the pandemic, he had plenty of time to take things slow and work through songs. “The process wasn’t so focused on ‘We’re making a record.’ Instead, I could go in and cut songs just because I loved them and not think about how they would fit on the record,” he explained. “To record stuff for the sake of loving the song, or thinking the arrangement would be cool, is a pretty great freedom to have,” he added. “It’s rare, even when you’re starting out, so I decided to really lean into that notion.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
