THE KITE RUNNER Will Launch a North American Tour in Spring 2024
The tour will open at ASU Gammage in Tempe, AZ before moving on to nearly 20 cities.
The producers of The Kite Runner , a play with music based on Khaled Hosseini's international best-selling novel, are pleased to announce that a North American tour of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production will launch in Spring 2024. The tour will open at ASU Gammage in Tempe, AZ before moving on to nearly 20 cities, including Pittsburgh, PA and Schenectady, NY. Additional tour dates and full casting to be announced at a later date.

The powerful stage production of The Kite Runner tells a haunting tale of friendship spanning cultures and continents, following one man's journey to confront his past and find redemption. Afghanistan is a divided country, and two childhood friends are about to be torn apart. It's a beautiful afternoon in Kabul and the skies are full of the excitement and joy of a kite flying tournament. But neither of the boys can foresee the incident which will change their lives forever. Told across two decades and two continents, The Kite Runner is an unforgettable journey of forgiveness, and shows us all that we can be good again.
Originally published in 2003, Hosseini's The Kite Runner became a bestseller across the globe and has since been published in 70 countries, selling 31.5 million copies in 60 languages. Now this powerful story has been adapted into a stunning stage production.
THE KITE RUNNER originally premiered at the San Jose Repertory Theater in 2009. In 2013, Nottingham Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse staged a new production in the UK. In 2017, The Kite Runner returned to the stage in London's West End for two critically-lauded, limited engagements at Wyndham's Theatre and the Playhouse Theatre. The much-anticipated Broadway production played a strictly limited run at the Hayes Theater in the summer of 2022.
THE KITE RUNNER is directed by Giles Croft and adapted by Matthew Spangler . The creative team includes Jonathan Girling (Composer and Musical Supervisor), Barney George (Scenic and Costume Design), Charles Balfour (Lighting Design), Drew Baumohl (Sound Design), William Simpson (Projection Design), Laura Stanczyk (Casting Director), Kitty Winter (Movement Director), and Damian Sandys (Associate Director). Humaira Ghilzai serves as Cultural Consultant.
Salar Nader , the renowned musician who dazzled audiences in the Broadway production, will reprise his role as tabla player for the tour.

Starring in the tour is Ramzi Khalaf as Amir. The cast also features Raji Ahsan , Danish Farooqui , Shahzeb Zahid Hussain , Hassan Nazari-Robati , Haythem Noor , James Rana , Jonathan Shaboo , Kevin Stevens , Wiley Naman Strasser , Awesta Zarif , Jade Ziane , and Sophie Zmorrod . They join Salar Nader , the renowned musician who dazzled audiences in the Broadway production, who was previously announced to be reprising his role as tabla artist for the tour.

HAYTHEM NOOR ( Baba ) is a New Yorker from Cairo, Egypt. Beejan Land is an award-winning Australian actor making his Broadway debut. He’s performed in over 40 professional stage productions in Europe and Australia. Eric Sirakian is thrilled to be making his Broadway debut in The Kite Runner ! Theater credits include The Jungle (West End), Twelfth Night , The Comedy of Errors , and Pericles (Shakespeare’s Globe). Houshang Touzie started at the Tehran Drama Workshop, an avant-garde theatre institute. His career there led him to the Shiraz Persepolis Festival, where he worked with Robert Wilson, and later to NYC with the La Mama theatre group, where he appeared in The Tibetan Book of the Dead . In Los Angeles he established Workshop 79, a theatre company where he wrote and directed 16 plays in Farsi, touring globally.

Based on Khaled Hosseini’s beloved, international best-selling novel, "The Kite Runner" is a new play adapted by Matthew Spangler that follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption. Afghanistan is a divided country, and two childhood friends are about to be torn apart.
The play opens tonight at Proctors in Schenectady and will be performed tomorrow night, as well. To find out more, we welcome Awesta Zarif who plays Soraya, (the main character’s wife). Awesta is a performing artist, educator, public speaking coach, political campaigner and activist residing in NYC.

The stage adaption of Khaled Hosseini’s international bestselling novel, The Kite Runner, is returning to The Lowry this May.
The show, adapted by Matthew Spangler, and directed by Giles Croft, will be coming to The Lowry from May 7 until May 11 as part of its UK tour.
The book is set in Afghanistan, a country on the verge of war and two best friends are about to be torn apart.
“It’s a beautiful afternoon in Kabul, the skies are full of colour and the streets are full of the excitement of a kite flying tournament, but no one can foresee the terrible incident that will shatter the ir lives forever.”
One Broadway season and two West End seasons have garnered international acclaim for this story.
The cast includes Stuart Vincent (Amir), Yazdan Qafouri (Hassan/Sohrab), Dean Rehman (Baba), Daphne Kouma (Soraya), Bhavin Bhatt (Assef), Tiran Aakel (Ali/Farid), Ian Abeyesekera (Gen Taheri), Christopher Glover (Ramin Khan), Aram Mardourian (Kamal), Stanton Wright (Wali), Amar Aggoun (ensemble), Sulin Hasso (ensemble), and Hanif Khan (Tabla player).
