Day 1 - Depart New York

From the moment you board your Kenya Airways flight you will feel the warm African hospitality that the continent is known for. Sit back, relax, and get ready for a memorable safari vacation.

Day 2 - Arrive Nairobi

On arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by a Lion World Travel Representative and transferred to the Panafric Hotel.  

Accommodation: Sarova Panafric Hotel Nairobi – Standard Room (D)

Day 3 - nairobi/maasai mara national reserve.

Depart on your light aircraft flight to the Maasai Mara.

Please Note: Luggage restrictions on the Kenya light aircraft transfer flights is 15kg/33lbs in soft bags – including hand luggage. This applies to touring vehicles in some cases too.

Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive on safari in Kenya's most popular reserve. 

Accommodation: Sarova Mara Camp – Deluxe Tent (B, L, D)

Day 4 - maasai mara national reserve.

Spend the day on safari in one of Africa's richest wildlife viewing arenas with morning and afternoon game drives. 

Day 5 - Maasai Mara/Lake Nakuru National Park

Drive to Lake Nakuru which is the most famous of the Great Rift Valley lakes and home to both black and white rhinos. Arrive in time for lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge.

Accommodation:  Sarova Lion Hill Lodge – Standard Room (B, L, D)

Day 6 - lake nakuru/nairobi/amboseli.

Drive to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch at a local restaurant. Then drive to Amboseli National Park, home to legendary Maasai tribesmen and famous for huge herds of elephant.

Accommodation:  Amboseli Serena Lodge – Standard Room (B, L, D)

Day 7 - amboseli national park.

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives where photographic opportunities are endless.

Keep a look out for the vast herds of elephant. The bull elephants here have some of the largest tusks in Kenya. 

Day 8 - Amboseli/Lake Manyara National Park

Transfer to the border town of Namanga for customs, immigration and your new driver-guide from Leopard Tours who will be with you for the rest of your journey.

Stop at Arusha Coffee Lodge for lunch. Later drive to the 4 star Lake Manyara Serena Lodge situated at the edge of an escarpment overlooking the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara.

Day 9 - lake manyara/serengeti national park.

After breakfast enjoy a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Return to the lodge for lunch. Later to Serengeti Serena Lodge, arriving in time for dinner.

Day 10 - serengeti national park.

Enjoy a full day’s game driving with meals taken in true safari style in the bush in the vast Serengeti.

Day 11 - Serengeti/Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast depart on your morning game drive in the Serengeti, before returning for lunch at Serengeti Serena Lodge. In the afternoon, depart to Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, via Oldupai Gorge.

Accommodation:  Ngorongoro Serena Lodge – Standard Room (B,L,D)

Day 12 - ngorongoro crater.

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the 'eighth wonder of the world,' to view the most densely packed concentration of wildlife in Africa.

Stop for a picnic lunch in the crater.

Day 13 - ngorongoro crater/tarangire national park.

After breakfast drive to Maramboi Tented Lodge, arriving in time for lunch.  

Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park.

Day 14 - tarangire/arusha/kilimanjaro/depart.

Drive to Arusha town arriving in time for lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge. Then transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport in time for your departure flight . Bid farewell to Africa until next time.  (B, L)

Day 15 - Arrive USA

Return home with a lifetime of memories!

Lion World Tour to Tanzania

Our first trip to South Africa was through Lion World Travel in 2011 followed by our recent safari to Tanzania in August, 2015. Our guide, the luxury lodges and the scenery was beyond our expectations. Our trip was seamless, exciting and one we will never forget.

We just returned from our trip to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, followed by Cape Town, and finishing at Kapama Southern Camp in South Africa, all booked through Lion World. We had never been to Africa and this trip was all we imagined and more. All the accommodations were 5 star. We began at Victoria Falls River Lodge right on the Zambezi river. Next was the 12 Apostles in Cape Town and finishing at Kapama. The Big 5 and plenty more. Deciding what was the best part is impossible. We highly recommend Lion World and would travel again with them in a heartbeat.

Had the most amazing safari trip to Kenya!!!! From the very beginning of our trip planning to our return flight home, Lion World was amazing!! Laurandie at Lion World was always in contact with us to make sure everything went smoothly. There were, of course, some delays with air travel and Lion World was easy to contact and they made all the changes to our plans as needed. I have travelled extensively and last year I planned a month long European trip for my family so I know how much work and time it takes to organize a trip such as this. For the first time, I was able to relax and enjoy the trip without worrying about travel plans because I knew I was in good hands! The accommodations were top notch and the guides provided by Lion World were informative, friendly and professional. EVERYTHING provided and recommended by Laurandie was first class!!!!! This was our first trip to Africa and I am SO glad it was with Lion World.

My husband and idea booked a trip with Lion World Travel for 5 days in Cape Town and 4 on safari to Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands and have only praise for the trip and the service provided. This is the first time we have ever used a travel agency because we prefer following our own itinerary. However, never having been to South Africa, we were not as comfortable with the idea of winging it as we have been through Europe and the British Isles However, this trip had all of the benefits of an experienced travel agent helping with the irritating details, but none of the downsides associated with a canned tour. Our agent Mary Ellen helped us book the day trips we wanted and even helped us secure tickets for a concert at the botanical gardens that we researched on our own. The separate day trips to the vineyards and to the Cape of Good Hope (African penguins!) were well worth the time. The accommodations at Table Bay Hotel in Capetown and then at the River and Tinga Lodges while on safari were outstanding. The wildlife spotted on game drives while on safari were unlike anything we have ever experienced. Did I mention the night spent in Kingston Treehouse in Kruger Park? Do not hesitate to go!

We normally book vacations on our own, and have very high standards for organized trips/travel agents when we use them. Lion World exceeded our expectations. We took the Best of South Africa trip with Victoria Falls in Luxury added on at the end. I highly recommend this combination (and in the same order - Cape Town, Kruger, Vic Falls). Somehow, Lion World is able to provide 5 & 4 star accommodations (I use that order because they were mainly 5 star) with great activities and extras at an excellent price. Every part of the trip was flawless - every transfer was handled by professionals who knew exactly what to do and were always early, waiting for us. The package included a full day Western Cape tour out of Capetown. There were only 6 of us on the tour and guide was incredible. He had a broad knowledge of the history of South Africa as well as nature and animals. A helicopter ride over the bay was also included - really nice helicopter with leather seats that picked us up at the hotel. Their choice of hotels (such as the 12 Apostles and Michelangelo) are flawless. Kapama Southern Camp in the Kruger area provided high end accommodations, with amazing safari animal drives and fabulous food. Victoria Falls is huge and beautiful. You get your own cabin on the river, surrounded by animals at the River Lodge. We were picked up in a van at the airport and brought to a small private boat that took us to the lodge. Throughout the process, Laurandie, our Lion World agent was helpful and advised us well. She took care of restaurant reservations and made great suggestions, based on the time she spent getting to know us and our expectations. I can't speak highly enough about the services provided and quality of the vacation that Lion World delivered. Through and because of them, we truly had the trip of a lifetime.

Itinerary Days 1 - 3

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be met by a Lion World Travel representative and transferred to One&Only Cape Town, overlooking the marina with panoramic views of Table Mountain. Situated in the city's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the hotel offers ease of access to the beauty of the city along with top attractions.

Choose from one of the following two options:

1. NOBU SUSHI Masterclass: This is an exciting Masterclass where guests can learn how to prepare Nobu's signature dishes and enjoy sensational Sake pairings; presentation of Sake and other beverages by Nobu's Sommelier Team; souvenir take home recipe pack; and most importantly, members will dine at the sushi bar, having the hot dishes prepared and served to them.

2. TURTLES OF THE TWO OCEANS: Get up close and personal with these much-loved creatures during this behind the-scenes experience in partnership with the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation. The Foundation actively rescues, rehabilitates and releases stranded and distressed sea turtles as part of their conservation mission. Members will be able to assist with feeding, cleaning, and enrichment exercises.

Accommodation: One&Only Cape Town

Depart on a full day Cape Peninsula tour including a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain, to enjoy the magnificent views of the city and coast.

Drive along the exquisite stretch of coastline from Clifton to Camps Bay, towards the charming working harbor of Hout Bay and along the cliffs of Chapman's Peak Drive. After lunch, visit the Cape of Good Hope area of Table Mountain National Park. Ride the Flying Dutchman funicular to the old lighthouse for awe-inspiring views. Visit Simon's Town Boulders Beach African penguin colony before heading back to the hotel.

Depart on your Robben Island tour as you are escorted by Christo Brand, Nelson Mandela's former prison warden on Robben Island, who will be your private guide for the tour. Hear the story of their extraordinary and close friendship that continued beyond the prison cell. On your return to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, spend the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner and interactive drumming this evening is at Gold Restaurant. Enjoy a fourteen-course tasting menu featuring dishes from across the continent, and fun-filled interactive drumming, traditional dancers, face painting and Mali puppets.

Itinerary Days 4 - 6

Drive with your guide in a private vehicle to the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. Enjoy a set menu lunch at Grootbos Nature Reserve, then continue with the exciting experience of land-based whale watching from De Kelders cliff. In the late afternoon, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Cape Town.

Meals Included: breakfast and lunch

Depart with a driver-guide by Vintage Car for a full day Franschhoek Wine Experience Tour, including wine tasting, cellar tour and Sabrage demonstration at Haute Cabriere Winery. Later, enjoy an olive oil tasting at La Bourgogne Wine Farm followed by lunch, where the chef prepares the meal using farm-sourced ingredients. After lunch, enjoy leisure time in Franschhoek and an hour-long wine blending experience at Rickety Bridge Winery, from where you can leave with a bottle of wine. Later you will transfer to your hotel in Cape Town.

Transfer by private vehicle to Cape Town Airport for your flight to Hoedspruit, where you will be met and transferred to Kapama Karula Lodge. The villas feature wrap-around glass sliding doors that open onto an outside deck area with stunning views and your own heated pool. This is a prime wildlife viewing area with panoramic views. Twice daily game drives are offered, one in the early morning and one in the later afternoon.

Itinerary Days 7 - 9

Depart with your experienced ranger and tracker team on your early morning and late afternoon game drives. During your stay at Kapama Karula Lodge, you will have the opportunity to experience a Lion's Den Romantic Sleep Out Experience for one night.

Enjoy another day of wilderness experience. Halfway through the game drive, there's a stop for hot drinks and snacks, before returning to the lodge for a full breakfast and time to relax. During your stay at Kapama, enjoy a specially curated private bush lunch experience that's not to be missed. In the late afternoon everyone gathers for a decadent high tea, before heading out for the afternoon game drive through the reserve with a stop for a drink as the sun sets over wide open plains.

Passports for visitors to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Kenya and Tanzania must be valid for at least 6 months after the intended return date. Passports must contain at least 2 blank visa pages (each) for South Africa and Zimbabwe and 3 blank visa pages (each) for Tanzania, Kenya, and Mozambique.

Malaria is prevalent in the countries included in this itinerary. It is recommended to consult a doctor or travel clinic prior to travel regarding the appropriate precautions to take. THE LION KING North American Tour to Celebrate 22nd Anniversary

Since the North American tour launched in April 2002, The Lion King has welcomed over 23 million theatergoers.

The North American tour of Disney's The Lion King will celebrate its 22nd anniversary on Saturday, April 27 in Minneapolis. The Lion King has returned “home” to Minneapolis' historic Orpheum Theatre, where the Tony Award-winning Best Musical played its pre-Broadway run in 1997, and where the touring production is currently entertaining capacity houses through Sunday, April 28. 

Since the North American tour launched in April 2002, The Lion King has welcomed over 23 million theatergoers, making it North America's longest-running and most-attended Broadway tour. During the past 22 years, the record-breaking tour has employed hundreds of theater professionals, played over 10,000 performances during 253 engagements in 95 cities. Few tours in theatre history have achieved anything like its reach or impact.

The touring production features Peter Hargrave as “Scar,” Gerald Ramsey as “Mufasa,” Mukelisiwe Goba as “Rafiki,” Nick Cordileone as “Timon,” Nick LaMedica as “Zazu,” John E. Brady as “Pumbaa,” Darian Sanders as “Simba,” Khalifa White as “Nala,” Forest VanDyke as “Banzai,” Martina Sykes as “Shenzi” and Robbie Swift as “Ed.”

The role of “Young Simba” is alternated between Mason Lawson and Julian Villela and the role of “Young Nala” is alternated between Jaxyn Damasco and Aniya Simone.

The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice's songs from the Lion King animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice; additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from "Rhythm of the Pride Lands," an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer.  The resulting sound of The Lion King is a fusion of Western popular music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, ranging from the Academy Award-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” to Lebo M's rich choral numbers.

Elton John, Lebo M, and Hans Zimmer all collaborated on the 2019 version of the film, executive produced by Julie Taymor and Thomas Schumacher, which has gone onto extraordinary worldwide success.

The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated The Lion King feature, and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the film's screenplay.  Other members of the creative team include:  Michael Curry, who designed the masks and puppets with Taymor, Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design), Michael Ward (hair and makeup design), Anthony Lyn (associate director), Marey Griffith (associate choreographer), Clement Ishmael (music supervisor), Lisa Dawn Cave (production supervisor), Thomas Schlenk (general manager) and ARC/Mark Brandon, CSA (casting). Anne Quart serves as executive producer.

Lion sighted in Chad national park for first time in nearly 20 years

An image was released Thursday of a female lion in Sena Oura National Park in the Central African nation of Chad, the first such image of a lion in the park in "nearly two decades," officials said.  

The image of "a beautiful lioness, in her prime and clearly in great health" was taken by a "remote camera" on Feb. 22, according to a news release from the nonprofit Wildlife Conservation Society. 

A lion had not been seen in the national park in nearly 20 years, officials said, adding that the International Union for Conservation of Nature considers  lions to be "technically extinct" in the Sena Oura area. 

As a whole, the IUCN classifies lions as "vulnerable" on its Red List of Threatened Species. 

The governments of Cameroon and Chad have shown a commitment to conservation which has helped provide protection for national parks, the WCS said, and in turn has allowed wildlife populations to start recovering after a period of organized poaching more than a decade ago.

Last month, endangered West African lion cubs were caught on video in Senegal . The sighting of the three cubs has given hope that the revered West African lion population could be revived.

‘Lion King’ Live-to-Film Hollywood Bowl Concert to Feature Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, Jennifer Hudson, Billy Eichner and More (EXCLUSIVE)

The 30th anniversary of the original animated film version of “ The Lion King ” will be celebrated at the Hollywood Bowl next month with a live-to-film concert/screening that will include cast members from both the movie and theatrical versions — and beyond — including Jeremy Irons , Nathan Lane , Billy Eichner, Ernie Sabella, Jason Weaver and Bradley GIbson.

The shows will take place at the Bowl May 24-25 and be produced by Disney Concerts, Fulwell 73 Productions, AMP Worldwide and Live Nation-Hewitt Silva.

The general on-sale begins Friday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster, with an American Express cardholder presale starting Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Coming to the stage from the 1994 version will be Irons (who originated the sinister role of Scar), Lane (who played the comical Timon), Ernie Sabella (the first Pumbaa) and Jason Weaver (who played Young Simba). Gibson will represent the Broadway incarnation (he played Simba on stage), and Eichner will bring memories of the 2019 remake (he voiced Timon on screen).

Hudson has not previously been associated with the various incarnations of “The Lion King,.” But even though any voice cast will be mostly male, the opening number calls for a strong female voice, so it’s not difficult to begin the guessing game of where she might fit in.

It’s especially easy to make some educated guesses about what she’ll do knowing that Hudson sang “The Circle of Life” when she came to fame competing on “American Idol” during season 3.

The event precedes the release set for this coming Dec. 20 of a prequel from Walt Disney Studios, “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which like the 2019 version is being described as “live-action” (which, in this case, means a particularly photorealistic brand of animation — not actual singing lions). Eichner is reprising his role as Timon from the five-year-old remake in the forthcoming prequel; Barry Jenkins is directing. The trailer was described as going over well last week at CinemaCon.

Disney and Fulwell 73 previously teamed for “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” a livestreamed concert on Disney+ that went on to win an Emmy, and “Disney’s Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl,” a 2022 concert at the venue that was also turned into a Disney+ special. It would seem likely similar plans might be in the offing for May’s “Lion King” anniversary concerts, although no filming intentions have been announced.
