The staffs were courteous. They provideo complimentary breakfast and milk for my 3 year old. The rooms are not much spacious. May be the type of room we chose was not good enough. Room service is good. Cleanliness could be improved, towels not as clean as it should have been. Restaurant services were good. Food was tasty but felt it was costlier. Overall it was an enjoyable stay.

Everything about this place is great. It has a fantastic view of the valley. The rooms are clean, homely (the staff told me the hotel was actually a British home over a hundred years back) and cozy. The management is friendly and helpful. I was a single woman travelling alone and I felt very safe and comfortable. I'm definitely going back to this hotel on my next stay at Lovedale. I recommend this to anyone who wants a peaceful stay there.

About The Lawrence School

‘The Lawrence Asylum’ was built as a memorial to Major General Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence, CB, BT, LT.COL., ADC to Queen Victoria, KCB, who early in 1856, offered a sum of Rs.5,000 down and Rs.1,000 per annum if action were taken to found, at some Madras hill-station, an Asylum similar to those already established at Sanawar and Mount Abu. In February of 1856, a Meeting was held in Ootacamund to make every effort to carry out the project. From the beginning, difficulty arose as to the religious principles to be inculcated at the Institution. However, a prospectus for ‘The Ootacamund Asylum for the Orphans and other children of European soldiers in India’, on a strictly Protestant basis, was issued. A Committee was formed with the Bishop of Madras, Rt. Rev. Thomas Dealtry as its President.

Established in 1858, during British rule, the school was initially founded to provide education for the children of British soldiers. Over the years, the school evolved and expanded its scope to include all students.

Post-independence, the school adapted to the changing times and continued to uphold its reputation for excellence in education. It embraced a more inclusive approach, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. The curriculum was modernized to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving India, while still preserving the school's core values of discipline, integrity, and academic rigour. ......

Junior School Evening - PANACHE 2023

The Lawrence School, Lovedale prides itself on being a 'Plastic Free' zone. Use of plastic is judiciously curtailed at all times and periodically teachers and students participate in cleanliness drives in and around the campus to rid the area of plastic waste.

Moreover, with the recent guidelines received from the Government of Tamilnadu, this initiative will be further taken up on a war footing. Therefore parents, former students and visitors are requested to refrain from bringing any plastic material (food packets, water bottles, soft drink bottles etc) with them when they come in to School.

Please join us in our efforts to make Lovedale and ultimately the Nilgiris a healthy, plastic - free region.
