Musical theatre royalty and official Disney Legend, Lea Salonga is bringing her extraordinary talent back to the UK with new tour Stage, Screen & Everything In Between.

Lea will launch the tour with her first return to London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane - the iconic venue where she made her name as the original Miss Saigon 35 years ago - ahead of taking her spine-tingling vocals to cities across the country.

This will be the first time Lea has performed at the legendary West End theatre since creating the role of Kim in Miss Saigon in 1989. The role catapulted her international career and sealed her place in musical theatre history, with both Olivier and Tony Award wins.

In Stage, Screen & Everything In Between, musical theatre fans will experience stage and screen classics from Lea's best known roles in Miss Saigon, LES MISERABLES, Aladdin and Mulan, new-found favourites from the critically acclaimed West End hit Old Friends and much more from her celebrated career.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday December 8 from cuffeandtaylor.com

Friday June 21 - WOLVERHAMPTON, Grand Theatre (preview)

Monday June 24 - LONDON, Theatre Royal Drury Lane

Tuesday June 25 - CARDIFF, Wales Millennium Centre

Friday June 28 - NOTTINGHAM, Royal Concert Hall

Saturday, June 29 - GATESHEAD, The Glasshouse

Announcing Stage, Screen & Everything In Between Lea Salonga said: "I have so much love for UK audiences, so I am thrilled to be able to share some of the many wonderful songs I have sung throughout my career with fans once more - as well as some treats from 'in between' too.

"Returning to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane after all this time is a dream come true. It's an iconic venue, that holds such special personal memories - I cannot wait.

"I will always be grateful for Miss Saigon and the way that show changed my life - so to celebrate it once more, back in that beautiful and historic theatre will be incredibly special... But where have 35 years gone?"

Stage, Screen & Everything In Between will be Lea's third UK concert tour presented by Live Nation promoters Cuffe and Taylor with critics hailing her vocals as 'spine-tingling' and 'simply stunning'.

Ben Hatton, Director of Theatre Touring for Cuffe and Taylor, said: " Lea Salonga is a true international icon of musical theatre and we are honoured and delighted to present Stage, Screen & Everything In Between. There's no doubt these concerts will be a must-see event for any musical theatre fan. Don't miss out!"

Lea Salonga was just 17 when she was discovered by the producers of Miss Saigon in her native Philippines to be cast in the lead role of Kim. She originated the role in London and New York, winning the Olivier and Tony Awards for best actress in a musical. She returned to the West End in 2014 as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre .

Lea is also famed for her portrayal of both Eponine and Fantine in LES MISERABLES on Broadway - the first actress of Asian descent to play the roles. She also appeared in the musical's 10th and 25th anniversary concerts in London.

Her 2022 Dream Again Tour and 2019 The Human Heart Tour saw sold-out audiences and record-breaking sales across North America and the UK. In 2023, Lea returned to the West End to wow audiences heading the cast of Old Friends alongside Broadway icon Bernadette Peters , in paying tribute to the late, great composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim . She returned to Broadway in the summer, to appear in and co-produce Here Lies Love - Fatboy Slim and David Byrne 's biographical musical based on the life of Imelda Marcos.

On screen, Lea's pitch perfect tones are featured as the singing voices of two Disney Princesses - the only person to have ever done this. As Princess Jasmine in Aladdin, Lea recorded the iconic Oscar, GRAMMY and Golden Globe-winning Disney love song A Whole New World, followed by her performance as Fa Mulan in Mulan and Mulan II, roles which earned her the official title of Disney Legend.

Away from the stage, Lea starred in the 2022 HBO series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, has been a judge on the Philippines' version of The Voice and has sold a staggering 19 million albums worldwide - making her one of the best-selling Filipina artists of all time.

Having previously performed for the likes of Queen Elizabeth II, Diana, Princess of Wales, and former US presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush , Lea boasts numerous accolades including a Grammy Award nomination and Olivier, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards among others. She has toured all over the world, performing sold out concerts in such locations as the Sydney Opera House, London's O2, The Royal Albert Hall, The Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Singapore's Esplanade, Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Miss Saigon UK Tour

Cameron Mackintosh announced today that his acclaimed new production legendary musical MISS SAIGON – a recent smash hit in the West End – will embark on a major UK tour opening at Curve Leicester from Monday 3 July – Saturday 22 July 2017 before playing the Birmingham Hippodrome, Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Wales Millennium Centre, Festival Theatre Edinburgh and Mayflower Southampton. Tour schedule is below and further dates and casting will be announced soon.

Cameron Mackintosh said, “It’s hard to believe that it has been over 25 years since MISS SAIGON first opened, but if anything, the tragic love story of the show has become even more relevant today. This new production, directed by Laurence Connor, takes a grittier, more realistic approach than the original production while still delivering the power and epic sweep of Boublil and Schönberg’s tremendous score. Of all my shows, MISS SAIGON is the one that I have received the most requests from the public to bring back. I am thrilled that audiences around the UK will get to see this tremendous new production that audiences and critics in London have embraced since it opened in 2014; which I am now taking to Broadway with its original West End stars opening next March at the Broadway Theatre. Audiences who can’t wait, will get a preview of the scale of this wonderful production at forthcoming screenings of the MISS SAIGON 25th Anniversary Performance which was filmed live in London, in selected screens across the UK on 16 October.”

The new London production of MISS SAIGON opened in London in May 2014 to record-breaking advance sales and critical acclaim. The show swept the board at the 2015 Whatsonstage.com awards winning a record breaking nine awards, the most awards ever won by a single show in the 15-year history of the awards including: Best West End Show and Best Revival of a Musical.

MISS SAIGON tells the story of young bar girl named Kim, orphaned by war, who falls in love with Chris, an American GI – but their lives are torn apart by the fall of Saigon.

A scene from 'Miss Saigon'.

Time Out says

This award-winning production in partnership with Opera Australia is pure melodrama: emotionally manipulative but also hard to resist

Since its original West End run, when the now unspeakable yellowface casting of Jonathan Pryce as a Vietnamese pimp marred its otherwise blockbuster success, Miss Saigon has felt problematic, even a little off. An adaptation of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly – itself the subject of colonial revisionist criticism – it has never quite shaken free of controversy. Some of the show’s offences were mitigated by judicious casting, so that Vietnamese actors finally got to play themselves on stage. But others linger or haunt the work in ways more difficult to articulate.

The story – American soldier and Vietnamese bargirl fall in love but are separated by the fall of Saigon – has remained the same, as has the lushly romantic score. But since its debut, a lot of work has been done on the lyrics, which in the original production leaned heavily on the crassness and posturing self-regard of US military jargon. It’s a more culturally sensitive work as a result, even if the outline of American imperialism is still visible underneath.

The problem, though, stems not from Miss Saigon ’s cosmetic Americanisms but from something deeper, something that can’t be changed. The show was written by Frenchmen Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, riding high after the undeniable triumph of Les Miserables. Vietnam’s relationship with America is tricky, certainly, but its relationship with France – the original, brutal colonisers of that country – is positively toxic. Perhaps the rot set in before a single note was composed.

And yet, for all that, the show still goes on. It’s consistently revived on the West End and on Broadway, and this new production, mounted by Opera Australia but first seen in London in 2014, proves it’s as powerful and affecting as ever. Asian-Australian actors are front and centre – in fact, they’re the best thing on stage by a mile – and the roles they are playing no longer seem as abject or helpless as they once did. Even the Americans seem more benign, more nuanced and conflicted.

All productions begin and end with the actor playing Kim (Abigail Adriano), the character who endures the most, sacrifices the most and most transforms the people around her. It’s a fiendishly demanding part with the bulk of the show’s big numbers, and Adriano equips herself brilliantly. She has to show sweetness and vulnerability but then flintiness and tenacity, and eventually she has to grow into a kind of heroic fireball, burning through injustice and the cruelty of fate. Her voice is perhaps not as warm as it could be – there is something airless about her top register – but it is driving and confidant. She seems to embody the resilience and determination of the part, an assuredness that emanates from her and steadies the entire production.

As the Engineer, the musical’s impish id, Seann Miley Moore gets to have all the fun; thankfully, with a performance bursting with brio and charisma, so does the audience. It’s a star-making role – Pryce won the Tony for his highly criticised take on it, and Jon Jon Briones showed what could be achieved in the part with his wonderfully oily interpretation for the 2014 West End revival – and Moore is certainly stellar. He’s Falstaffian in his wit and moral relativism, but also sleekly sexual, flagrantly queer, often frighteningly aggressive.

Director Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy emphasises aggressive sexuality throughout, in a production that feels more immediate and vital than some that have come before. Perhaps it’s the more contained production design (Totie Driver and Matt Kinley), with its dark sensual wood and intensely vibrant red and gold material. Or Bruno Poet’s luscious lighting, which picks out bodies and details from a wash of colour.

You see it in the blunt physicality of Kim’s relationship with soldier Chris (Nigel Huckle), a relationship that needs to sweep us away if we’re to buy into the tragedy that follows. Huckle handles the character’s shift from impassioned lover to emotional wreck with conviction – the part can so easily spool into an irritating whine – and his second act dilemma feels authentic and understandably corrosive. Nick Afoa makes an arresting and leonine John, Laurence Mossman is elegantly compromised as Thuy and Kimberley Hodgson is fierce and vivid as Gigi, a woman whose story mirrors Kim’s but may lead to hope.

The ensemble are superb, precise and committed at every moment. The two scenes at sleaze bars that occur near the beginning of each act are suitably grubby, sordid and electrifying, and the Engineer’s 11-o-clock number, ‘The American Dream’, is a satirical, show-stopping highlight. But equally effective are the gentle moments, the wedding ceremony of ‘Dju vui vay’ or the swelling heartbreak of ‘Exodus’. Orchestra Victoria plays the expansive and luxurious score with absolute mastery.

Miss Saigon is an expertly designed melodrama, emotionally manipulative but also hard to resist. Its stakes are high and its characters are deeply moving, even when buffeted by circumstances the production has never really been interested to interrogate. One could see it and not even realise the Americans are an occupying force. And the fact that two Frenchmen felt perfectly entitled to tell it in the first place means it will always sit uncomfortably in the musical canon. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t see it; we just need to remember whose lens we are looking through when we do.

'Miss Saigon' is playing at Her Majesty's Theatre until December 16. For more information and to purchase tickets, head to the website .

Fantastic theatrical experience

I took my family to see Miss Saigon. The whole experience was fantastic; great seats, interesting story and beautiful songs. A note of caution for those with younger children - the performance is rated 15+ for some of the content.

Hard to believe it was 'Kim's' debut as a main character - what a voice, what emotion! This is not the first time I have seen this show but there was an edginess and rawness to this production that captured my attention throughout. Bui Doi was fantastic 'John' singing it with such passion and feeling, I would have supported the foundation without hesitation. Well worth going to see.

Normally get fidgety and bored after half hour at the theatre! especially with musicals! however this production is simply amazing! beautifully acted, amazing sets. Could easily watch it again and again. Get a ticket whilst you can, its a great night out.

I have been attending West End musical theatre productions for the past three decades, but nothing could prepare me for the amazing spectacle of this stunning show. I had been waiting to see this new production of Miss Saigon since it started in London a few months ago. My son's 18th birthday seemed like an appropriate occasion to book seats for the family. With a little guidance from the Theatre Monkey website we chose really good seats near the front of the Dress Circle and then booked them online directly with the Prince Edward Theatre. The theatre is delightful - it is beautifully decorated and presented, and is a worthy venue for a top production. The set for Miss Saigon is amazing, with the set, props, perspective, sound, lighting and special effects extremely well designed and presented. I can honestly say that I have never ever seen a musical theatre production that has blown me away like this one did. Speechless and breathless are two often over-used words by theatre reviewers, but in this case they are completely accurate. Miss Saigon is a love story, based around the classic tale of Puccini's Madame Butterfly, transported to the context of the Vietnam war of the 1960s-70s. At this point (August 2014), the cast is, as far as I can tell, the original cast of actors who introduced this current production just a few months back. Every single one of them put their heart and soul into the show. In terms of musical theatre, this is as good as it gets. If Trip Advisor would allow a rating above 5/5 I would award it for what we saw in this show - yes, as good as that! I must point out that this is a show suitable for adults and older children (15+ teens) only. The story, just like the plot of Madame Butterfly from which it comes, is deep and harrowing at a few points. Some of the wording and themes of the songs are of an adult nature (mildly sexual, for example). In a few of the routines the female cast members are scantily dressed in bikinis and lingerie. HOWEVER, it is all completely contextual and in my opinion necessary to bring realism to the show. Overall the adult tone is not overwhelming and none of it is included for the purposes of cheap titilation. Eva Noblezada played the leading character of Kim - she is just 18 years old, but she fills the theatre with her voice and the warmth of her character. Jon Jon Briones (international Theatre, Film and TV star) played the role of "The Engineer" to the point of perfection, with my family left believing that we were genuinely watching a 1970s far-eastern pimp-come-wannabe-business man. Alastair Brammer gave a stunning performance as Chris, the US GI who falls in love with Kim. Hugh Maynard played the reforming character of John, including a stunning lead part in the song 'Bui Doi'. Kwan-Ho Hong plays the spurned lover Thuy and is oh so convincing in his portrayed sentiment. I could go on, listing the actors and their performance, including the brilliant Tamsin Carroll who played Chris's US wife Ellen, and Rachelle Ann Go who very convincingly played the raunchy role of Gigi, as well as the members of the ensemble who made the show so special. The show quite rightly earned a standing ovation at the end, with the vast majority of the audience rising to its feet to applaud a stunning performance. Over the years I have seen many shows, with the occasional standing ovation, but Miss Saigon was worth every single moment of the 10 minutes of standing ovation. The tickets cost us £65 each, but my family and I came away feeling that we had seen an epic show that will be hard for any subsequent musical theatre production to beat. We are still singing and whistling and humming the songs and tunes at home today - it was such a momentous life-filling performance. Buy tickets to this show and you will not regret it. I will put my neck on the line by predicting that you will, like us, come away thoroughly fulfilled.

I loved everything about this show. The set, the costumes, the story, the singing, dancing, and the overall musical score. It was an emotional roller coaster, and from the first musical note, I was hooked. It is well worth seeing, and I think the best musical I have seen so far. It is also much, much better than the trailer on their website so don't be fooled by it. If you can, get a good seat now with the current cast - they are tremendous. I would say, however, on the date of seeing the performance (19 August), the CD on sale was of the old production. So, if you are tempted to buy the CD after seeing the first act, as I was, just double check it is of the current cast. (I found out just before handing my card over!) I can't wait unit the new CD recording comes out - I think I will be playing it over and over in my car...

so so so spectacular. as other reviewers have said not one for the children but the most amazing theatre experience. something i will remember for a long time to come. hubby saw the original production some years ago so wasnt over keen to go again but as we love vietnam he agreed to come. he was blown away too .... truly marvellous
