  This part of Spain couldn't be more different, i t is an area of dramatic mountains sprinkled with tiny unspoiled whitewashed villages, diverse countryside ranging from deserts in the east, to marshes and plains in the west and the lush Costa Tropical in between. Over 700 km of glorious beaches sharing both the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea and best of all, the awesome roads.

   Composed of eight provinces, stretching from the south-east to the south-west of the country, each one named for its capital city: Cadiz, Cordoba, Jaen, Huelva, Almeria, Malaga, Granada and Seville. Day 1: Your Lisbon airport transfer will take you directly to our joining hotel, ready for an early start tomorrow. Today you will meet your crew for your tour briefing and welcome dinner. Day 2: Leaving the Portuguese capital of Lisbon we ride due south along the Atlantic Coastline the most southwesterly point of the European continent, at Sagres, a town with a definite “end of the world” feel to it. Day 3: We are in the Portuguese Algarve and ride the extraordinary Serra de Monchique, riding small remote backcountry roads through tiny farming communities before returning to the coast at Tavira Day 4: Crossing into Spain today, and the legendary Andalucía, we ride into the mountains of this remarkable region overnighting in a 15th Century Hacienda located on the outskirts of the stunning Arcos de la Frontera Day 5: We cross into Morocco today, via the Straits of Gibraltar, and ride onto the beautiful “blue village” of Chefchaouen, a village in the shadow of the Rif Mountains. Day 6 & 7: A full days ride today to one of the most fabled cities in Morocco, that of Fez. We spend a full day in Fez allowing us time to visit the renowned Fez Medina among ancient sights. Day 8: Leaving Fez we ascend into the Middle Atlas Mountains and a landscape of vast valleys and oasis of palm filled canyons to our overnight stop at Midelt. Day 9: Descending somewhat we reach the very edge of the Sahara Desert and swap our bikes for camels and ride out to our overnight 5 star campsite, set deep within the sand dunes, not far from the Algerian border! Day 10: Back on our bikes we ride the “Route of 1000 Kasbahs”, a historic route littered with Kasbah’s and palm filled oases on our way to the extraordinary Todra Gorge then onto Boumaine Dades, where we spend the night. Days 11 & 12: We visit one of Morocco’s finest Kasbahs of Ait Ben Haddou before ascending into the High Atlas Mountains via the incredible Tizi n'Tichka pass. Two nights are spent in Marrakesh giving us time to visit the old medina and the amazing Djemaa el Fna, a chaotic main square that bursts to life at sundown, and has been operating since the 11th Century Day 13: More superb back country riding today and we ascend and descend the Atlas Mountains via rarely used single lane roads; it’s a real introduction into rural Moroccan life Day 14: More great riding today back into the ever present Atlas Mountains through a rarely visited region of remote villages and epic landscapes. We arrive into the UNESCO listed Meknes for our overnight stop and can visit the old medina. Day 15: A short ride out to Morocco’s finest Roman ruins of Volubilis before continuing onto the beautiful coastal fortified village of Asilah where we spend our last night in Morocco. Day 16 & 17: Breakfast in Morocco, lunch in Gibraltar & dinner in Spain!!! We cross back into Spain and stop of the wonderful Rock of Gibraltar before ascending into the mountains to the incredible Ronda. Two nights are spent in Ronda allowing us time to explore this amazingly located, historic city that straddles the El Tajo Gorge. Day 18: Another superb ride day exploring the empty back roads of Andalucía before reaching the renowned city of Granada, home to the magnificent Moorish fortress & palace complex of Alhambra. Day 19: We start the day off with a visit to the UNESCO listed Alhambra before riding the “Caliphates Way”, a route littered with Pueblo Blanco’s (White villages) all adorned with ancient fortresses. The day is finished off at the staggering Mesquita (mosque / cathedral) in Cordoba. Day 20: We cross back into Portugal today via some superb country lanes and mountain top fortress villages. We overnight at another UNESCO listed village of Evora Day 21: After spending the morning in beautiful Evora we take a short ride amongst beautiful cork, eucalyptus forests and grape vines to Lisbon for our last night of this incredibly diverse ride in 4 different countries. Departure day: Spend some time in Lisbon or fly home, the choice is yours.

Our strategy is simple – share a fantastic fun filled time with the people you feel most comfortable with… Your Mates!! So if you book with us as a group of four  or more riders, you will be the only riders on that tour and you will be accompanied by one of our knowledgeable and expert guides. Where appropriate we will operate with 2 guides – one at the front and one at the rear, ensuring that the whole group enjoys themselves and gets the best possible off road experience!

We are also more than happy to cater for those riders who are travelling alone to get their quick fix of off road thrills in Spain. Again riding with one of our experienced guides you will indulge in a trail biking experience that will deliver satisfaction to the highest level.

Please note that single riders, or small groups may be placed with another group for some or all of the tour to make up a maximum of six.

All our off road trail tour guides have been riding the trails and tracks here for many years & know them back to front, and as such have uncovered incredible areas that are only accessible by an off road motorcycle.

We are simply people who just love riding off road. There is no substitute for hands on experience and we have it in abundance!

Self-guided motorcycle tours in Spain

We have divided Spain into three areas for you:

1. South Western Spain   If your motorbike tour goes to the southwest of Spain, then you will be on the road starting from Málaga to western Andalusia , the Atlantic coast and Extremadura .

2. South Eastern Spain   In south-eastern Spain, you will visit eastern Andalusia , the Mediterranean coast and Valencia on your tour from Málaga.

3. Northern Spain, France   In the north of Spain, your motorbike tour from Barcelona takes you to the mountains of the Pyrenees , towards the beautiful routes on the Atlantic coast and to the south of France .

The self-guided tours in southern Spain are planned to be ridden all year round . Therefore, they are also ideal as a winter getaway. The tours in the Pyrenees can be booked from May to October.

If you like it a bit more in style, like to wake up with a sea view or appreciate more luxurious facilities, you can add the Hotel Plus package . In this case, we will make sure that you get just the one, particularly beautiful room in the hotels or even an upgrade to a better hotel category.

Your advantage on the self-guided tour is that you ride at YOUR pace. To match your riding style, we tailor the length and intensity of the riding days to your preferences.

When booking your tour, you can let us know if you prefer to ride longer and like lots of small bends, in which case our frequent rider category is the right choice for you. If you prefer to arrive at the hotels a little earlier, perhaps have your pillion with you and like to ride on wider roads with long bends, then our laid back rider category is the right choice for you.

GS Motorcycle Tours is a local family business set up by myself Graham Swan and my wife Julie and located in the charming unspoilt white village of Velez de Benaudalla situated close to the Costa Tropical, in the province of Granada, Andalucia.

Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and beautiful Las Alpujarras region, Velez de Benaudalla enjoys a privileged location, just 10 mins from the coast and beaches of the Costa Tropical and just 55 km from the historical city of Granada.

Velez de Benaudalla, although small, is a lively, working town, and as such is well equipped with amenities of all kinds, including shops, banks, chemist, medical facilities, and of course a good choice of bars and restaurants, and a municipal swimming pool.

Here are the most important mountain ranges of the Spanish territory: the Pyrenees, running along the border with France, and the Picos de Europa on the Cantabrian coast.
