NatWest Single-Trip Travel Insurance
NatWest’s Single-Trip Travel Insurance is for those who travel less and far in between. The policy covers a single trip, usually up to 90 days in duration. The policy covers medical expenses, cancellation, personal liability, baggage loss, and travel delays.
NatWest Annual Multi-Trip Insurance
NatWest’s Annual Multi-Trip Insurance is for those who frequently travel throughout the year. This is a cost-effective way of securing your travels, where you buy a collective plan instead of paying for each trip separately. This policy covers an unlimited number of trips during the year. Your trip duration can be up to 31-45 days at the maximum, depending on the policy you choose.
NatWest Backpacker Travel Insurance
If you are taking a gap year or want to travel for an extended period of time, then this cover will be the right choice for you. Whether you are taking a gap year or on a mission to travel around the world, NatWest will tailor the policy to your needs. This policy offers you additional coverage for winter sports equipment, ski passes and piste closure.
NatWest Bank Accounts for travel insurance

For medical expenses, you can get up to £10 million in cover, and for cancellations and curtailment, you can get up to £5,000. You can also avail of additional benefits for an added cost like baggage loss or travel delay.
As we mentioned earlier, you can also get a mobile phone cover of up to £1,500 for repair or replacement. Another cover that the NatWest Silver account provides is the car breakdown cover that includes roadside assistance and recovery in the UK & Europe.
2. NatWest Platinum Travel Insurance

Coming to mobile insurance, which covers loss, theft or accidental damage, you can avail of up to £2,000. Like the Silver account, you will receive car breakdown cover and additional lifestyle benefits like discounts on travel and entertainment.
3. NatWest Black Travel Insurance

NatWest is a premium travel insurance provider that offers comprehensive policies and covers, leaving no stone unturned. The level of coverage and benefit you receive will depend on which cover you have invested in. Before you sign up for any of their covers, make sure to read the fine print carefully so that you are not blindsided. For more information on travel insurance, visit Tripcoloumn.
Do I need to register for travel insurance?
NatWest account owners don’t have to register for travel insurance as they are already covered. If you want to extend your cover to include pre-existing medical conditions, then connect with NatWest’s support team, as that might require some additional costings.
Do I need to inform NatWest about my travel plans?
No, you don’t have to inform NatWest about your travelling plans. If you have one of their bank accounts – Silver, Platinum, or Black, then you are already covered by your travel insurance.
How can I make a claim?
To make a claim for your NatWest travel insurance, you can log in to Membership Services and complete the online form. This is where you can manage all your account details. You can also call the NatWest support team for further assistance.

Do I need to register for travel insurance?
You don't need to register, you're automatically covered.
If you would like to extend your cover to include pre-existing medical conditions or are aged 70 and over, please call us. We may ask you to pay an additional premium or we may not cover your condition.
Do I need to let you know my travel plans?
You don't need to let us know when you are going abroad. Your travel insurance automatically applies if you have a Silver, Platinum, or Black bank account.
Our fraud monitoring services will secure and monitor your debit card activity the same way as it does within the UK so you can travel freely without having to notify us.
However, we understand you might still like to register your travel plans and for that reason we have kept the option for you to do so on the mobile app.
Steps to register your travel plans for your debit card:
- All you need to do is tap on your account from the main page and go to 'Manage my card'.
- Tap 'Going abroad' then 'Add trip' (iOS devices) or 'Register card' (Android devices) and follow the instructions on screen.
What is my travel insurance policy number?
Your policy number is your sort code followed by your account number.
This is also shown on the Certificate of Insurance that you can download or request by calling us.
Any upgrades you purchase will have their own unique policy ID which is shown in the confirmation email.
What cover does our travel insurance provide for COVID-19?
Your policy provides cover for the following situations related to COVID-19 as long as the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) aren't advising against "all travel" or "all but essential travel" to your destination.
Cutting short a trip due to:
- A change in FCDO advice, as long as you weren’t aware of this advice when you travelled.
- Being unable to stay in pre-booked accommodation due to COVID-19 or another pandemic, as long as you weren’t aware of this when you travelled.
Cancelling a trip due to:
- You or any insured person, close relative or travelling companion being diagnosed with COVID-19 or another pandemic disease.
- Quarantine (as an individual and not broadly as part or all of a population, vessel or geographical area).
- The FCDO advising against 'all' or 'all but essential' travel due to COVID-19 or another pandemic, if not known at the time of booking
- You being refused boarding onto your booked public transport due to displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or another epidemic or pandemic.

From my wife's research on cruise critic I know that when the first P & O cruises started there was a lot of questions asked about Nat West Black card insurance. However I cannot find the relevant threads. So at the risk of covering old ground can any one let me know their experiences.
i.e. Was there any problems at the terminal, what documents were required, do I have to get anything extra added by the insurer etc

I would be interested in this too. I phoned up Natwest and initially the lady I spoke to said it wouldnt be covered but when I clarified it was a staycation she said it would. She didnt seem that sure though so it didnt fill me with confidence.
In terms of documents we only have the certificate that we got when we opened the account about 10 years ago and doesnt have our name on it I dont think, so was womdering what to take as evidence also..
We bank with HSBC and have insurance with them.I think so many people have enquired about staycations that now if someone contact s them (which we have done) they will provide a printed letter(or email which we have printed off)It states that we have a certain bank account with them which includes travel insurance. It also states our names and dates of birth and there is a date at the top of the email.(We are going to take a copy of our recent bank statement to show the account still exists. You may find that Natwest will do something similar.
We received a letter from Natwest back in May confirming they had extended their cover for UK cruises. The relevant paragraph reads:
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic some UK cruise providers now require travel insurance to provide at least £2,000,000 of cover for emergency medical and repatriation costs. In response to this change we are extending our limit for UK cruises departing in 2021.
This policy will provide cover for emergency medical and repatriation costs up to £10,000,000 when you are travelling on a UK cruise that departs in 2021. The cruise duration must be for a minimum of 2 nights for cover to apply.
You must ensure you meet all the conditions of carriage for your cruise provider.
I think this was in direct response to the number of queries they were getting about this and there is nothing to suggest that it does not cover staycation cruises. In fact the terms of our NatWest policy seem to cover any UK holiday of three nights or more. We are on Iona in a couple of weeks, and I've printed off a copy of the letter just for the sake of completeness.
Thank you for your replies.
I have found that if you visit the Black card website you should be able to print off the insurance document which is about 90 pages long. Also if your insurance is like mine there should also be "letters" to you which you can download which has your name and the dates the insurance runs from. I will certainly be taking hard copies of these to the cruise terminal.
Hope this helps

Whats the point? If you have purchased the insurance, it can always be checked with the company in case of a need. You dont really need to carry it with you all over the place. Moreover, when you are insured for the trip, your name enters the global data base.

here in the UK with P&O you take and have to pass a lateral flow test before you join the ship. these are carried out just before you embark. You have to have proof of double vaccination before they will even start the process. also you need proof that your insurance, which is compulsory is adequate for covid cover. So now insurance companies provide policy certificates and covering letters which the prudent cruisers make prints of. Imagine the confusion if you have to access the insurers web page delaying people behind you in the queue and there are IT problems, result, no cruise for you.
My understanding is that if it is for a seacation cruise you have to make sure that you have £2mill Health Cover on the Policy, most policies only cover 10K for UK holidays so you need to ask your insurer for a letter to say that you are covered for at least £2mill on a UK Cruise.
I find the message facility on the Natwest app to be really good - they gave me the number 0800 0327142 or 0141 3490283 to enquire about the travel policy. i rang and within an hour had been emailed a letter specifically addressing cover for cruises etc. I was on Iona's maiden and wasnt asked for this, but understand that this is being spot checked.
Thanks to your replies
