ATLANTA — The PGA Tour season concludes at East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship this week, as the top 30 players look to take home the FedEx Cup.

Here is everything you need for the Tour Championship: a preview, full TV schedule, streaming schedule, and complete list of first-round tee times.

Tour Championship Information

Where: East Lake Golf Club (Par 70, 7,346 yards)

When: Aug. 24-27th

Purse: $75 million ($18 million to the winner)

Defending Champ: Rory McIlroy

Tour Championship Preview

The final event of the 2023 season is here as the PGA Tour looks to crown a FedEx Cup champion at the Tour Championship. Players will compete for a $75 million purse, where the winner will take home a whopping $18 million.

This week is different from the BMW Championship and FedEx St. Jude Championship. Players start with strokes depending on where they finished on the points standings. Scottie Scheffler will start at 10-under, Viktor Hovland at 8-under, Rory McIlroy at 7-under, Jon Rahm at 6-under and so on.

East Lake Golf Club is a doozy. Multiple par-4s stretch beyond 450 yards, and there are only two par-5s on the course. Keeping it in the fairways will be imperative. Water comes into play on some pivotal holes, so avoiding the penalty areas will be a crucial component to hoisting the FedEx Cup trophy.

McIlroy sits in a strong spot entering the week. Last year, he came from behind and waltzed past Scheffler to win his third FedEx Cup. With nine straight top-9s and his game in form, can the Northern Irishman close it out in Atlanta again?

Scheffler fell short last year, but did he learn his lesson?

Hovland is coming off a historic 61 at Olympia Fields to win the BMW Championship, and he looks dialed in this week. Can he go back-to-back?

Xander Schauffele plays East Lake better than anyone in the field. Only Tiger Woods plays this course better historically. Schauffele won in 2017 and has finished in the top seven in the past six seasons.

So many intriguing storylines are here in Atlanta as the top players in the world will battle it out at East Lake. Of course, they will need to beat the heat too.

How to Watch the Tour Championship

Golf Channel and CBS will share television coverage for the final playoff event this week.

How to stream the Tour Championship

The Tour Championship will be available for streaming via ESPN+ from 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. For the third round, ESPN+ will stream coverage from noon to 7 p.m. Then on Sunday, streaming airs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be featured group coverage on the streaming services all four days, per the PGA Tour.

Tiger Woods is scheduled to compete and has won the PGA Championship four times. He has also finished runner-up three times – as recently as 2019. FedExCup leader Scottie Scheffler will look to win his second major championship title of the year. Jordan Spieth is coming off a solo-second finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson and his game appears to be on point. Brooks Koepka, a two-time PGA Championship winner, withdrew from the AT&T Byron Nelson but is set to compete at Southern Hills. Rory McIlroy is looking to keep some major momentum going at Southern Hills. McIlroy shot an 8-under 64 in the final round of the Masters – tied for the lowest final-round score in tournament history. The winner will earn a whopping 600 FedExCup points.

2020/21 PGA Tour season: highlights so far

The new PGA Tour season has gotten off to a spectacular start, headlined of course by Bryson DeChambeau's dominant win at the US Open back in September and then Dustin Johnson's maiden Augusta victory in November.

That depends on who you ask - and how you measure success in golf. But in most people's eyes (and the eyes of the PGA), the answer is Dustin Johnson.

Johnson was in superb form from the moment PGA Tour action resumed back in June and looked unbeatable towards the end of the season, winning two out of three events in the 2020 FedExCup Playoffs including the Tour Championship - making him the official winner of the 2019/20 PGA Tour. In fact, only a miraculous 66-foot Jon Rahm putt stopped him from making it a clean sweep and he's still world no. 1 as we look ahead to Augusta.

However, if you measure success by major victories, then Collin Morikawa's maiden victory at the PGA Championship certainly deserves a mention - as does Bryson DeChambeau's win at Winged Foot in the 2020 US Open - even though it technically took place after the start of the 2020/21 season.

The first round of the final tournament of the PGA Tour season is here. If last week’s BMW Championship is any indication of this week, it's going to be some of the most entertaining golf ever. This season only five players have won more than one event. Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Jason Kokrak and Stewart Cink all have two victories under their belts while Patrick Cantlay boasts three.

Last week included an epic finale between DeChambeau and Cantlay in a 20-hole playoff to determine the BMW Championship and the leader heading into the PGA Tour Championship:

Last season, Dustin Johnson won this event and the FedEx Cup with a -21 over Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and John Rahm. This year, some of the same names are in the mix.

The Tour Championship is worth 2,000 points towards the FedEx Cup which means that Cantlay, Tony Finau, DeChambeau, Rahm, Cameron Smith and Thomas are all in contention. Cantlay has a very decided advantage based on points but also on his play all season. In addition to his three event wins, he's racked up three top 10 finishes and six top 15 finishes.

There are several outcomes that are in the balance this week, but if the season and recent play offer any indication of how this tournament will play out, Cantlay, Finau or DeChambeau are going to be hoisting the FedEx Cup on Sunday.

The pga tour stays in texas this week for one last tune up before the masters.

Just four rounds stand between players and the first major championship of the season. The 2024 Texas Open will serve as the final tune up for some of the world's best as they search for form ahead of the Masters. While many of the top names in the field have already booked their trips to Augusta National, the Texas Open will grant one final spot in the field should a winner without an invitation emerge.

Not needing to worry about this is world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who has experienced a somewhat tumultuous season up to this point. A bit more erratic with his long game than what we are used to, McIlroy is without a top-10 finish on the PGA Tour and has struggled to string four rounds together. McIlroy hopes to find whatever this missing link may be at TPC San Antonio, where he last played in 2022. McIlroy missed the cut that week, but it served as a good preparation; he finished runner-up at the Masters a week later. 

Also factoring in Masters past are champions such as Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama, who are heading in opposite directions in terms of form. Matsuyama, a winner at the Genesis Invitational, looks much like the man who donned the green jacket in 2021. Spieth, meanwhile, has struggled with consistency. Fresh off back-to-back missed cuts at the Players Championship and Valspar Championship, Spieth is in need of some strong play leading into the Masters. 

Collin Morikawa finds himself in a similar position with cold iron play, while players such as Max Homa, Matt FItzpatrick Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood and Brian Harman appear keen on entering the winner's circle.

How to watch PGA Tour's the Players Championship on ESPN+

The next event on the 2023 PGA Tour is the Players Championship , which begins on Thursday. Often referred to as the unofficial "fifth major" on the Tour, the Players Championship will be played at TPC Sawgrass, a par-72 course located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The tournament's winning purse is $25 million because it is an elevated PGA Tour event .

The Players will feature several top golfers like Rory McIlroy , Scottie Scheffler , Xander Schauffele , Jon Rahm , Max Homa and Jordan Spieth . The winner of the event will walk away with $4.5 million, a record for the largest winner's share in PGA Tour history. Golfers should prepare for hole No. 17, nicknamed the "island hole." According to ESPN Stats & Information research, 27 balls were hit into the water at that hole last year, the most in the ShotLink tracking era (since 2003).

The picturesque Deer Creek Course at the Landings Golf & Athletic Club again will play host to the seventh annual Club Car Championship.

This week's event has become one of the marquee stops on the Korn Ferry Tour, a developmental tour where players compete to earn their way to the PGA Tour.

Past champions include Sam Burns, who won the title in 2018 and is now No. 21 in the Official World Golf Ranking. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, the betting favorite headed into the Masters Tournament next week, finished second behind Dan McCarthy in 2019 Club Car Championship.

Last year, David Skinns of England provided a great storyline as the 42-year-old University of Tennessee product won by a stroke, edging former Armstrong State star Shad Tuten and Tom Whitney for his third Korn Ferry Tour victory.

Wednesday, April 2: There will be an Opening Ceremony held on the 10th hole tee box at noon.

Thursday-Sunday, April 3-6: The action will get started at 9 a.m. each day for ticket holders.

Players to watch

There are 156 golfers in the field who will be competing to make the 36-hole cut on Friday and compete on the weekend. Three former Georgia Southern standouts are in the field.

• Ben Carr was the runner-up in the 2022 U.S. Amateur and earned spots in the 2023 Masters and U.S. Open tournaments. He is playing in on a sponsor's exemption and making his debut on the Korn Ferry Tour.
• Former Eagle star Steven Fisk, who has a school-record nine collegiate wins and finished second in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, will also be teeing it up.
• The pair will be joined by Mason Williams from the GS Class of 2023, who punched his ticket to the tournament by shooting a 63 in a Monday qualifier.
• Every player ranked inside the top 50 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List is in the field this week.
• Three past champions are in the field this week: T.J. Vogel (2022), Evan Harmeling (2020) and Dan McCarthy (2019).
• In addition to the three player from Georgia Southern, 12 players with collegiate ties in Georgia are in the field with eight from Georgia Tech (Shunyat Hak, Paul Haley II, Connor Howe, Chris Petefish, Seth Reeves, Ollie Schniederjans, Ross Steelman and Richy Werenski) and four from the University of Georgia (Erik Compton, Joey Garber, Trent Phillips and Spencer Ralston).

Other notables in the field include Mason Anderson and Kevin Velo, who are No. 1 and No. 2 among the Korn Ferry Tour money leaders. Anderson, the former Arizona State star, has won $233,483, while Velo, a former San Jose State standout, has pocketed $219,150.

Television coverage

The Golf Channel is set to broadcast the tournament, putting the spotlight on one of the top golf courses in the South. It is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Daily tickets start at $10, and kids 17 and under receive free grounds access with a ticketed adult. In addition, the tournament offers free admission to all approved Active Duty, National Guard, Military Reserve Service Members, Military Retirees, Military Veterans and First Responders.
