Purulia Tour Guide- Detailed Itinerary

Purulia Tour Guide

Purulia is one of the most visited places in West Bengal and this Purulia detailed tour guide will provide you with all the details you need to travel to Purulia. Purulia is also known as "Lal Matir Desh" which means land of red soil in Bengali. Purulia greets travelers with lush green meadows & forests, hills, lakes, and its natural beauty along with rich history. Not known to many Purulia has played an important role to carve the history of Bengal. Purulia is also rich in tribal culture and will keep you mesmerized with its rustic beauty.

When to Visit Purulia?

We traveled to Purulia after staying at home for more than 10 months in the month of December. Winters are the best time to visit Purulia. The tourist season starts in November and ends in March/April for Purulia.

The best time to visit Purulia is from early March when the Palash flowers blooms and Purulia transforms into a different beauty. Purulia is filled with Palash trees and when they bloom the entire land looks reddish in color due to the color of the flower. The trees look as if on fire with their red-colored flowers in full bloom.

How to reach Purulia?

What is the history of purulia.

There is hardly any written history of Purulia however one can find the mention of crushing the Varendra rebellion by Pala King Rampala in the poem Ramacharitram written by court poet Sandhyakar Nandi.

It is also believed that a major trade route passed through Purulia in the 10h -12th Century. One can find the influence of Jainism in Purulia. There was a huge settlement of Jains during this time Purulia and one can find Jain temples in Purulia. which were built in Oriya Deul Style Architecture. The temples were built of stone and bricks.

One of the important areas in the Purulia district is Garpanchkot. The name is derived from two words Gar ( Fort) & Panchkot ( Panchkot Raj). So basically the combination of two words became Garpanchkot which is the fort of the Panchkot kings. We have heard of the river Damodar, which gets its name from king Damodar Sekhar. He established Panchkot Raj during 90 AD along with the help of Sardards of Jhalda. He kept on expanding his kingdom. The name Panchkot comes from the 5 clans of the areas.

How many days are required to Travel to Purulia?

4 Days 3 Nights are enough to cover all major places of the Purulia district. However, if you have a lesser number of days you can choose and pick the places which you want to visit in Purulia.

Purulia Tour Guide - Detailed Itinerary of Purulia

Purulia has two major circuits for traveling. Circuits are basically routes which one can follow to travel. If you ask any tour agent regarding travel to Purulia they will talk about these circuits.

However, during my travel, I didn't follow any of these circuits and made my own route keeping in mind two important things :

a. Important places that depict the true history and natural beauty of Purulia

b. Places which can be covered in 1 day without getting too tiring and which can be covered in 5-6 hours

I created two routes which I followed for two days to cover Purulia and the majority of its tourist and not so touristy places.

Ayodhya Hills: The Ultimate Guide to Purulia Tour

Ayodhya Hills

Looking for a weekend getaway from Kolkata? How about an untapped hill at a distance of only 250 km from Kolkata? I am introducing you to the Ayodhya Hills in Purulia, West Bengal. The Purulia tour is a great idea if you want a short road trip from Kolkata.

Ayodhya Hills or অযোধ্যাপাহাড় are one of the most popular destinations in Purulia. It is a 700-metre-high plateau, the easternmost part of the Chhotanagpur Plateau and an extended region of the Eastern Ghats.

Being part of the Dalma Mountain Range, it is surrounded by lush green forests, beautiful waterfalls and tribal villages. The slopes have narrow streams and springs which lead to Subarnarekha in the west and Kangsabati & Kumari in the north.

This culturally rich place has preserved its natural beauty which makes it a peaceful as well as fun weekend destination for you. Let’s see what you can include in your little itinerary.

Nearby Attractions: A Purulia Tour from Ayodhya

Most tourist spots are actually near Ayodhya Pahar. These include beautiful lakes & dams, untapped waterfalls, lush green forests & hills and culturally-rich tribal villages.

So, let’s look at the best spots that can make you forget your busy life.

Waterfalls, Lakes & Dams

Among the water bodies, the following are a must-watch:

  • Bamni Falls: Located at 434 metres above sea level, this beautiful waterfall leads to a lake. However, there are approximately 800 rough steps to the lake. So, climbing down would interest you only if you love adventure!
  • The Turga Dam and The Turga Falls: This is located at 284 metres above sea level. The beauty of this spot is something you should capture in your camera.
  • Khairaberia Dam: This irrigation dam is at the foot of Chemto and Barra Hills. It leads to the Khaira river. You’ll enjoy the beauty best during spring, when the red Palash flowers bloom and surround the area.

Some other lakes and falls to look at are:

  • Tarapaniya Lake
  • Ghagkocha Falls
  • Brahmani Falls
  • Muruguma Dam
  • Paprakocha Dam
  • Machkanda Falls

Nearby Hills& Tribal Villages

Purulia is not only green, it’s got a carpet full of flowers that make the surrounding really colourful. It’s also a home for Santhals, Kumars, Mahatos, Kalindis and Sahish tribes. Let’s take tour to their home town:

  • Mayur Hills: Located at 605 metre above sea level, this hill has plenty of Sal, pine and silk cotton trees. If you want a panoramic view of the entire range of Ayodhya Hills, this is the right spot to visit. You should stay over to see the beautiful sunset transform to a romantic moonlit night.
  • Pakhi Pahar: Also known as the Murra Buru hill, this place is known for rock paintings of birds. Of course, there are real birds to watch too! Not only will you find peacocks, there are wild animals like deer, leopards and boars too.
  • Charida Village: This place is known for the famous Chau dance performed by the tribal communities. You can begin your day watching how the chhau masks for this dance are made at the pilgrim centres and end it by watching the performance. You can choose to buy the masks too!
  • Bagmundi: Located at 264 metres above sea level, this is the most populated town near Ayodhya Hills. Surrounded by dense forests and waterfalls, you can enjoy the view of flora and fauna along with some historical destinations.

You can also take a short trip to Dalma Pahar and Chamtaburu Hill.

What Should You Not Miss at the Ayodhya Hills?

While you’re at the Ayodhya Hills, there are some places you shouldn’t miss visiting:

  • The Sita Kunda: This mythological destination has an interesting story behind its beauty. It is a spring that was created by Lord Ram to quench Sita’s thirst. He shot an arrow on the earth’s crust from which water gushed out. The Santhals drink water from here every year on full moon day, followed by which they indulge in hunting.
  • Gorshabru: This is the highest peak of Ayodhya Hills at a height of 868.68 metres. Enjoy the beauty of dense forests, mesmerizing waterfalls and welcoming tribal villages here. The panoramic view of hills is something you should capture before you leave.

When to Visit Purulia?

Of course, you’ll love travelling the most when the weather is pleasant and the surroundings are in their best form. Commonly, the period between September-March is the ideal time to travel.

However, if I were to shortlist even from here, there are 2 options for you:

  • Early October: That is just after the monsoon when it is greener and the Kash Phool blooms. Also, the winds are cool and pleasant which make travel even more soothing.
  • February-March: This is actually spring time, when the Palash flowers bloom and create a red carpet on the green surroundings. The sky is clear and the wind is chilly as winter is about to leave.

HOW TO PLAN A PURULIA TOUR?

While planning a Purulia tour, tourists must consider the two major tourist circuits in Purulia district.

  •  Ajodhya Pahar Baghmundi tourist circuit
  • Garpanchokot Baranti Panchet tourist circuit

Both the tourist circuit can be covered in a single tour plan or can be visited separately in a relaxed manner. Both the tourist circuit under purulia tourism offers a blend of mesmerizing landscapes and ancient historical architectures.

WHICH ARE THE TOP PLACES TO VISIT IN PURULIA?

Two major tourist circuits of Purulia covers almost all the alluring scenic spots under Purulia tourism.

A. Ajodhya Pahar or Ayodhya hills circuit under Purulia Tourism

The most popular tourist circuit is the Ajodhya Pahar Baghmundi tourist circuit since it covers a variety of landscape, towering hills, dams, falls and lush green forest. Popular destinations under Ajodhya pahar or Ayodhya hill tourist circuits are as below

purulia tourist spot map

Ajodhya Pahar

Ajodhya Pahar is the main attraction among all the tourist spots in Purulia. An extended part of the Eastern Ghats range, Ajodhya Pahar is a hill of medium height with tableland on top. Belonging to the Dalma Hill range, the highest peak of Ayodhya Pahar is Gorgaburu. The hill is within the vast area of Chota Nagpur Plateau and forms its lowest step. It is a woody hill with picturesque beauty. The cacophony of birds will accompany you along your trail to the Ayodhya Hills through the forested path. Legend has it that this hill was visited by Lord Rama and Sita during their exile. The vast spread of greenery and serpentine roads are a treat to the eyes. With a height of mere 712 metres, it is one of the most favourite nearby weekend destinations from Kolkata. A visit to the Ajodhya Pahar will certainly make you fall in love with Purulia all over.

 Muruguma Dam

Not far from Ajodhya Pahar in Purulia, there is another tourist spot in Purulia rich in natural beauty awaiting your amazement. Muruguma Dam. Built over a small tributary of the river Kangsabati, this place is serenity well-defined. A whiff of fresh air coming every second from the water body is sure to make you feel relaxed on your next trip to Purulia. Fill your pollution-laden lungs with freshness and enjoy the not-so-distant views of the Ayodhya Pahar. The clean water of the dam, greenery around the place and hints of the characteristic red soil- all make the tourist spot in Purulia worth visiting.

Bamni Falls

Purulia, an otherwise dry district of West Bengal, has wonders in store for you as you visit Bamni Falls. While you experience the dry, stony soil of Purulia, the hint of moisture in the air coming along with the fresh smell of spruce trees fills up your senses as you visit the falls. The water here steps down without giving you any visual indication of erosion. Stand close to it and droplets of water will drench you like the pitter-patter of rain. Looking for a place to sit and think of nothing and letting go of all the worldly worries? Look no further beyond Bamni falls, the stunning tourist spot in Purulia.

Purulia Tourist Spot

Another location with breathtaking beauty within the vicinity of Ajodhya Pahar in Purulia is the Upper Water Dam. It is one of the major sightseeing in Purulia and without giving it a visit your Purulia tour will be incomplete. It is mainly a project for generating hydroelectricity. It is also known by the name of PPSP or Purulia Pump Storage Project. The artificially constructed dam brings freshness to the dry surface of Purulia. Watching the sunrise and sunset from this location is nothing short of an extravagant experience. The vast open area does not barricade the sky and thus when the colours of sunrise and sunset spread across the sky, you are simply left awestruck. The Upper Dam area is surrounded by Sal forest which adds to the lush green beauty of the Purulia tourist spots.

It is another rock-filled dam under the PPSP project. Located downhill from the upper dam, it gets its name, Lower Dam. The scenic beauty and natural environment are not much different from the upper dam. But at the same time, Purulia has wonders hidden in every turn. You can always discover the lower dam in its unique view when you visit it. The low reservoir of water provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the natural view of the surrounding without any barrier in front of your eyes. The reflection of the sky on the clear water will make you want to touch it and feel it.

If you have a special fondness for local artisans and their artefacts which are famous across the globe, Charidah is the place you must include in your Purulia tour plan. Internationally acclaimed Chhau martial dance uses masks of various looks, sizes and shapes and Charidah is the home to these masks and the artisans who make them. While you get to interact with more than 250 artisans involved in mask-making, you may come across a few who have been awarded nationally too, acknowledging their effort. Be mesmerised by the beautiful creation and you can buy these artefacts directly from the makers at an excitingly affordable price. Charida village is a bright spot in the Purulia tourist map for its contribution to the art to make Purulia tourism more attractive and vibrant.

A quick step back in history is what Deulghta is all about. Ruins of temples built in the times of the Sen and the Pal emperors bear the evidence of rich heritage, improved expertise in designing and building and the immense creativity of the artisans. The nearby Kansai River adds to the stucco decoration and authentic architectural styles. Even though the temples have endured the wrath of time, the skilled artistry is still evident on the temple body and the idols. One must include Deulghata in their Purulia tour plan to know the history of Purulia from ancient times.

Famously known for the hills by the same name, Baghmundi is actually a small town in Purulia developed as a part of the community development programme. It is a small area with all the necessities in the vicinity. There are many approaches to visit Ayodhya Pahar, one can visit Ajodhya Pahar through Baghmundi situated at the foothills of Ayodhya Pahar. The rainy season, winter and spring are three times of the year when this area thrives with natural beauty. A simple aimless stroll through Baghmundi can enrich you with the magnificent beauty of nature. Hills, forests, waterfalls- nature has its basket full and is awaiting your arrival.

Ajodhya Pahar Tea Garden

Spread across 20 acres of land on the slopes of Ajodhya and other areas, the tea garden was an initiative undertaken by the Government of West Bengal. Once a beautiful Purulia tourist spot with a lush green cover of tea saplings, this project now needs a fresh lease of life. The administration is working towards it. You can still spend some time here, have a small chit chat with the workers here and get a glimpse of their lifestyle before returning to your resort.

Khairabera dam

Yet another water body in the trail of Purulia, the Khairabera dam is located amidst hills and forests. It is mainly an irrigation dam. Two hills on two sides adorn the dam which is around 1.5 km long. The calmness of the location is only disturbed by the cacophony of birds. You can see various fishes swimming in the clear water. A trek of a few miles will bring you to Machhkanda falls, a small waterfall hidden in the greenery of the forest. Khairabera dam is a must-visit place for sightseeing in Ajodhya hill and forest reserve area.

B.Garpanchokot Panchet Baranti Circuit  under Purulia Tourism

The other important tourist circuit in Purulia tourism is Garpanchokot Panchet Baranti Circuit. Following are the main tourist attraction in this tourist circuit

Purulia tourist spot map

Garhpanchkot

Garpanchkot is one of the most popular tourist spots in Purulia. The word Garh in the name Garhpanchkot stands for ‘fort’. Here you will find a fort, now in ruins but still standing strong, as it was built in 1600 AD by the Panchkote kings. The structure is located just at the foothills of the Panchet Hills. It withstood the Bargi attacks and bears the signs of their ruthlessness. The environment here is serene. Fill your lungs with fresh air and fill your ears with the chirping of varieties of birds as you experience history unfold itself in front of your eyes. The fort stands alone bearing the testimonial of Bengal’s rich heritage. It is one of the most visited Purulia tourist spots. This place is an excellent location for clicking photographs also.

Baranti or Muradi Lake

The rocky terrain of Purulia makes it an ideal place for building dams for irrigation. Muradi Lake / Baranti lake is situated at the base between the hillock named Muradi hill and Baranti hill. It is situated about 15 Km from Panchyet Hill and is a favourite picnic spot for travellers visiting Purulia. During winter, the place becomes abuzz with the chirpings of migratory birds. There’s a dash of colour everywhere. The picturesque lake surrounded by forests and hills is one of the major attractions of Purulia Tourism. Amid Purulia’s rugged landscape, Boronti is like an oasis. One looking for sightseeing in Purulia shouldn’t miss.

Jaichandi Pahar

If Purulia is a queen, Jaichandi Pahar is undoubtedly her crown. It is closer to Raghunathpur than Purulia town. This hill has made itself one of the most favourite places on the Purulia tourist map. Whether you want to simply absorb the beauty of nature in its most virgin form or whether you are up for a day tour Jaichandi Pahar is the ultimate location. It is not of much height but stands tall in the surrounding plateau. In winter, Jaichandi Pahar Pariyatan Utsav is held from 1st or 2nd January. Local artisans flock to the festival ground with their creations.

Located at the Raghunathpur subdivision, this part of Purulia has even more wonders packed in its famous temples. Time travel with a visit to the Radha Vinod temple built in the 17th century. Thanks to the administration, the temple has been restored. On the temple walls, you will find intricate designs of terracotta depicting the various  Leela  of Lord Krishna and other incidents from the Ramayana. Palash Utsav

The Murugama Dam is constructed on the Saharajhore River, the tributary of the Kangsabati River in West Bengal, India.

The dam lies in the foothills of Ajodhya hill, Purulia District of West Bengal. This area is inhabited by tribal people, especially the Santal community. Nestled in the heart of the dense forest this place happens to be a popular tourist spot. Our Ajodhya Hill tour package includes sightseeing of this beautiful place.

Our Ajodhya hill tour to Mayur Hill can bring immense joy to your soul. The spectacular view of the whole Ajodhya hills is everything you have craved for.

Yogini Cave located in the deep forest has been associated with several mythological stories. Myth has it that when Sati (the incarnation of goddess Durga) died, her soul stayed inside this cave before she was reborn as Parvati and finally tied the knot with Lord Shiva .

To guard her against her the demon Shukra , who would often come to harm her in the disguise of snakes, Lord Shiva remained in disguise as a ‘Mayur’ (peacock) near the cave. Due to this incident, the mountain got its name ‘ Mayur Pahar '.

This is one of the most beautiful visiting places in Purulia. It lies on the way to Baghmundi from Ayodhya. It lies close to the village of Barria . The waterfall lies around 500 steps down the main road, away from the hustle and bustle of town. The steps are made of concrete halfway down the road.

The falls, cascading down the mountain bifurcates into two different streams, looking like a twin fall at the midway. If you walk down the bottom of the midway fall, you will enjoy a great view.

Scattered with boulders and surrounded by forest, this place has a wild beauty. One can sit on the big boulders and relax for a while. However stones being slippery, one must be very careful. Further down the midway, there is no concrete carpet, the steps gradually change into big rocks and mud. The path unwinds into green bushes while moving down the path, it gives a unique experience like trekking in the Jungle. The steps being slippery and narrow, elderly people are advised not to visit this fall.

When you finally reach the very bottom of the magnificent fall, you will see how water flowing down from the top strikes at the very bottom, creating a magical beauty. A partial view of the lower dam can be seen. Sit here for a while enjoying the purity of nature, the roar of this magnificent fall, the quietness of the forest.

It is advised to carry some water with you, as you can get thirsty while descending and ascending the pathway. However, make sure you don’t litter plastic water bottles and hamper the ecosystem there.

It is one of the famous Historical places of Purulia, it is almost 60 km away from Purulia town. The ruins of Panchakote Palace have been a witness of the infamous Bargi attack during the 18th Century.

Garh Panchakot is a hidden gem. The history of this place dates back to 90 AD. It is situated by Panchet Lake along the slopes of Panchet Hill in the Purulia district of West Bengal.

The Rajas of Panchkot were the Singh Deo dynasty . The city holds the sole testimony of history. It has witnessed a lot.

Bargi's attack had reduced this city to ruins. During the attack king’s guards were killed. They destroyed and plundered the palace. It is said that all 17 wives of the king chose to commit suicide in the nearby well during the attack. Garh Panchkot is laid into ruins since then This place is isolated from the original town.

Apart from the occasional chirping of a bird, the silence here is profound. Being an Ancient historical heritage, this place is a part of our Purulia tour plan .

It is said that Damodar Sekhar established Panchkot Raj probably during the early 90 AD along with the help of Sardars of Jhalda . Eventually, he expanded his kingdom over several other Parganas.

The main five (Panch) Clans(that) of the kingdom is called Panchkhot . Panchkot is also called Panchet , it was originally a part of ancient Kindom named Raj chakla Panchkot . Panchakot Raj was probably a part of the Tilakampa Kingdom . Telkupi was the capital of Tilakampa Kingdom at that time.

A village under Raghunathpur police station at Garpanchkot ( Garh Panchkot ), drowned with the construction of Panchet Dam. The temples here have unique architectural styles. One of them is ' Pancharatna ' others like ' Jor-Bangla ' type and more than one 'Pirha' type temples made of stone are found here.

The Pancharatna temple holds the exotic beauty of pre-Islamic period Terracotta work , crafted on its arches and pillars. About 500 meters away from the Garhp anchkot, upward towards the hill, lies a perennial spring called ‘Dhara’.It is channeled through a ‘cow mouth’ made of stone.

baranti purulia side scene

This lake is also called Blue Dam or Patal Dam because of the blue waters of the lake. The serene blue waters give you a fresh feel like the blue waters of the Mediterranean.

During the construction of the 4th largest hydroelectric power project , the surrounding hills were blasted, it was at this time this beautiful lake got discovered. The water gushing out from underground probably gave rise to this lake. With the help of local authorities of the Purulia district administration, this lake is attracting tourists slowly.

This place resembles the dragon hills of Africa in many ways. This picturesque beauty of his place is enhanced by the wild forest around it. Every year during the rainy season, this water body gets filled with water again. This place has emerged as a great tourist place. It is one of the most beautiful visiting places in Purulia . However because of less crowd here, one can enjoy the peaceful serene beauty of nature.

Sita Kund is located in Bagandi Village of Ayodhya. This place has a rustic ambiance. Being surrounded by dense forest and crystal clear water bodies with lotus floating on them, this place is included in our Ajodhya Pahar tour package .

According to Hindu mythology, while Rama and Sita came to stay in Ayodhya Hills during their exile, Sita felt thirsty which made Ram pierce an arrow through the earth's crust, therefore fresh water gushes out. Therefore this place is named Sita Kund . Local people of Ayodhya hill arrange for wild animal hunting on the day of the full moon during Baisakhi.

Murra Buru Hill or Pakhi Pahar is an 800 feet high hill, famous for its exotic beauty and rock paintings. Shri Chitta Dey and his team, have sculpted nearly 60 images of birds on the rock face, the work is still ongoing. According to Chitta Dey , hills are not a lifeless geographical phenomenon. They are much like a living being, that inspires one to create art. For the past 20 years, he has been sculpting beautiful images of birds on the Ayodhya Hills , giving it the name of Pakhi Pahar (means Bird Hill in Bengali), and transforming it into one bas relief.

Pakhi Pahar is a great spot for bird watching and it is the natural habitat of peacocks. The dense forest around it is home to wild leopards, deers, and wild boars. Many rock climbing enthusiasts visit this place. This lies among the topmost visiting places in Purulia.

Baranti Lake is surrounded by hills and forested by thick vegetation. This is a famous picnic spot This place is known for its calm environment and peaceful atmosphere. Many migratory birds come to this lake in winter. This small quiet place is known for its scenic beauty.

A 1 km long dam lies between Baranti hills and Muradi hills . The Ramchandrapur irrigation project lies near Baranti. It is a part of the Rarh countryside. This place is perfect for a winter visit. Baranti is a small tribal village in Santuri (Raghunathpur subdivision of the Purulia district of West Bengal). It lies close to Baranti lake. This is a quiet tourist spot.

The baranti dam has given rise to a beautiful lake which is full of delicious fishes. So it is an ideal place for fishing. The sunrise and sunset here are breathtaking. Many migratory birds visit this place. The water of the Muradhi Dam located here is used for irrigation. Baranti tour is a must if you visit Purulia.

Joychandi Pahar is located near the town Raghunathpur . It lies almost 44 km from the proper town of Purulia. Famous for being a trekking spot and picnic spot, this place lies close to the railway station. The station is well connected to Joychandi Pahar, so can be reached easily.

It is a great visiting place in Purulia and is very little explored. Every year a festival called “ Joychandi Pariyatan Utsav ” is held, at the foothills, from Christmas till 1st January and 2nd January . This festival gives all local artists a chance to showcase their talents. This festival is a great tourist attraction.

The famous film ‘ Hirok Rajar Deshe ’ by Satyajit Ray was shot here. The hill derives its name from the Goddess Chandi . A small temple of Chandi Ma stands at the top of the hill. Apparently, The small lakes and abandoned towers nearby were used by the dacoits, at an earlier time. One needs to climb 400 steps to reach the top, which can be exhausting as there is very less source of water around. The village lies at a distance from here.

This small village lies 5 km from Baghmundi village . More than 300 skilled mask makers live in this village. These vibrant colorful and elaborate masks are used in the traditional “ Chhau Dance ” of Purulia. The tradition of making Chauu masks is being carried out here for 150 years now. It started during the time of King Madan Mohan Singh Deo .

A “ Chauu mask festival ” is organized in Charida every year during winter. Our Purulia tour package includes a short trip to Charida village .

Our Purulia tour plan includes a short visit to this magnificent fall. It is the second-largest fall in Purulia after Bamni Falls . Situated at the foot of Ayodhya hill , the water from this falls made the Turga Dam .

The beautiful cascading water flowing through a small rock creates a stunning picture. This place is ideal for a picnic. The view from the fall is mind-blowing. This place is a visual treat to the eyes. Turga waterfall is located near the village of Gosaidih .

These dams are part of the PPSP project. PPSP stands for Purulia Pumped Storage Project that has been installed for the first time in India with loan assistance from the Japan Bank of International Corporation . This is one of India’s prestigious projects that has brought fame to Purulia.

The main structures involved in the project are two Rockfill dams ( Upper and Lower Dam ) with central clay core for upper and lower reservoirs with live storage of 13 million cum each, twin water conductor, an underground power house.

Purulia is a drought-prone area, multiple Dams are created across the hills. The lower Dam is created in the lower part of the Ayodhya hills. Upper Dam and Lower Dam of Purulia Pumped Storage Hydel Power Project is 36 Km from Balarampur Railway Station. It is around 18 Km from Matha Pahar and 10 Km from Bagmundi. It is one of the top most visiting places in Purulia .

Mathaburu hills are very well known for their aesthetic beauty. The serenity clouded by the calmness makes one fall in love with this place.

Every year an annual fair is organized by the tribal community living nearby. Multiple Rock climbing and Nature Courses are conducted here. Because of its subtle beauty, this is one of the major tourist attractions and is an important part of our Purulia tour package .

This place is famous for its mesmerizing view of sunrise and sunset . Popularly known as sunrise and sunset point, Ushul Dungri quench the thirst of the lone traveler. This is a must among the topmost Purulia visiting places . The beautiful enchanting sunset intoxicates your soul.
