matt I know what you mean,sad really because when it first started Radio City was pretty good,but as you say now it is just the same music over & over interupted now & then by totally inane talk,sadly a lot of the commercial stations sound the same these days & they all claim to be have been named as the best commercial radio station in Britain,hate to hear one of the bad ones!

The viewing platform at St Johns Beacon is a unique way to see the ever changing landscape of Merseyside and beyond, over 400 feet above the city centre of Liverpool!

The construction of St Johns Beacon began in 1965, its main purpose to provide a ventilation shaft for the shopping complex below, its completion coming in December 1969.

Standing 138 meters above sea level, the tower was the tallest building in Liverpool and remained so until the erection of the 40-storey Beetham West Tower (home to the Panoramic Restaurant), which stands tall at 140 metres.

Known to millions as the loveable rogue Jimmy Corkhill, he was also a good friend and colleague to many here at the tower when he presented his City Talk afternoon programme when the station launched back in 2009. The opening of St Johns Beacon to the general public in Spring 2010, sees the tower open daily all year round even including bank holidays, with the only exception of Christmas, Boxing and New Year’s Day. Located in the heart of the City Centre, the beacon offers beautiful panoramic views of not only Merseyside , but of Wirral, North Wales, Lancashire, Blackpool and even as far as Snowdonia on clearer days.

The Gallery area is situated on the original level of the beacon, open 7 days a week from 10:00am until 5pm, with last entry to the tower being 15 minutes before the advertised close time. Prices are £6 for adults, £5 for those fortunate enough to be student or retired and £4 for children, with under 5’s free of charge. A family ticket consisting of 2 Adults and up to 4 Children is £18.50. Whilst photography is permitted throughout the gallery, we must stress that tripods are not allowed though monopods are acceptable at certain points.

St John's Beacon, as Radio city tower is officially known, is a working media outlet home to a local commercial radio station but is also open to the public as a viewing gallery with 360-degree views of Liverpool and beyond, up to 40 miles away on the clearest of days. With your admission ticket, you may go whenever you wish during opening hours, and there is no time limit to your stay (recommended time is about 30 minutes). The holiday season in New York City is very special. You have everything from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center to the 5th Avenue window displays and the Union Square and Grand Central Station holiday markets — plus a ton of affordable activities for families . With everything there is to see and do around the holidays, there is definitely one activity you will not want to miss: The Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes .

You can see the 36 Rockettes, with their 1,300 costumes and approximately 300 kicks each, almost daily between Nov. 9, 2018 and Jan. 1, 2019 — with up to six shows per day! While the Christmas show is spectacular for every age group, ticket prices do not come cheap. Fortunately though, here are some ways to save money on Radio City Christmas Spectacular tickets.

1. Ticketmaster Discount Codes

There are a ton of Radio City promotion codes through Ticketmaster, although some are only available for select seat types and certain days of the week. I suggest entering all of the codes below to see which one will get you the best price for your desired show and seat. Tickets get more expensive post-Thanksgiving, and you'll find that weekday shows and off-peak times (such as the 9am or 10pm weekend shows) will give you better pricing. If you want the absolute best pricing, go the first week of the show as you can snag a seat for only $32 per person! Also, buy your tickets as early as possible; it will increase your chances of getting a better seat at a lower price.

TZOO: Up to a 35% off – expires November 30, 2018
CHASE: Up to 30% off – expires December 9, 2018

Note these do not all work for all performances, so cross your fingers and give them a shot. The more flexibility you have in choose a show, the better your chances of snagging a discounted ticket.

While you will not find Ticketmaster on any of the airline shopping portals, there are a few cash back portals that will give you a slight kickback. Currently, Ebates, TopCashBack and BeFrugal are all offering 1% cash back on regular ticket sales. Depending on your ticket price, this might only end up being a few bucks back, but something is better than nothing. When making your ticket purchase, also remember that the Citi Premier® Card awards 2 points per dollar on entertainment purchases and the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card awards 4% cash back on entertainment. When comparing pricing, make sure to look at Ticketmaster's total price, including taxes and fees.

Similar to using a shopping portal for a Ticketmaster purchase, check airline or cash back portals for your Groupon or Living Social purchases. You can use an aggregator site like evrewards.com or cashbackmonitor.com to compare the best payouts. Currently, TopCashBack is offering 5% cash back on all Groupon Live purchases, which will put some cash back into your pocket.

3. TKTS Tickets

If you are willing to roll the dice, you might be able to find discounted tickets at one of New York City's three TKTS locations: Times Square, South Street Seaport and Lincoln Center. TKTS sells same-day tickets for shows that still have seats available. You can track shows for sale through the TKTS Live site and even check the days leading up to your visit to see average pricing. Since the show doesn't start until November 9, we can't track TKTS tickets pricing yet. Based on prior years, you'll likely be able to get a great deal on shows for certain dates.

4. Save on Snacks With Chase

Once there, using your Chase debit or credit card can save you 20% at merchandise stands, concession stands (select food and non-alcoholic beverages) and the Photo Experience. You can also access some of the "best" seats as a Chase cardholder if you book at least 21 days in advance.

History of Radio City Tower

Radio City Tower was known as St Johns Beacon from its opening in 1969 up until its rechristening in 1999. Originally, it housed a luxurious 5-star revolving restaurant on the top floor. The restaurant went through several incarnations before closing in the early 1980s, and the tower itself lay derelict for years before Radio City purchased it in 1998.

The company spent £5 million to refurbish the structure, and today, it houses 2 local radio stations and fields an observation deck accessible to the public for a small fee. It's a popular visitor attraction for photo opportunities.

What to know before visiting Radio City Tower

Radio City Tower is a functioning office structure hosting 2 major radio stations for the city, so much of the tower is not open to the public. To get the full 360-degree panoramic view, it's necessary to skirt the offices of the radio stations, but the view is breathtaking and well worth the trip.

Elevators onsite allow for access by people with disabilities, and the facility is considered wheelchair friendly. The tower rises 138 meters high, with the viewing gallery at about 120 meters. Most visitors spend around 25 minutes in the observation area, and visibility can sometimes reach as far as Blackpool, Snowdonia and the Lake District.

Hours: Tours run daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and depart approximately every half hour.
