Robbie Williams In Concert

In the 1990s, he was one of Britain's premier pop bad boys, riding his time in the mega-selling Take That into a hit-studded solo career. Today, Robbie Williams is one of the world's most celebrated pop artists, having notched six albums in the Top 100 best-selling U.K. albums of all time, achieved a Guinness World Record for most concert tickets sold in a single day, and released a slew of singles — from the sweeping 1997 ballad "Angels" to the cheeky 2012 banger "Candy" — that hit No. 1 on charts around the world.

Williams first became known to pop audiences as a member of the British boy band Take That, which he joined when he was 16. His swaggering presence and soaring voice added an edge to the Take That singles on which he sang lead, including their 1992 cover of the '70s pop classic "Could It Be Magic" and their 1992 soul-pop confection "I Found Heaven." Williams and Take That toured the world to massive audiences, but the singer felt dissatisfied, and he left the group in 1995. He launched his solo career with a cover of George Michael's "Freedom '90" a year later, and his 1997 solo debut Life Thru a Lens began his long-standing collaborative relationship with songwriter and producer Guy Chambers. Together, the two wrote the massive hit "Angels," which won a special BRIT Award for Best Single of the Past 25 Years in 2005, as well as the cheeky U.K. chart-toppers "Millennium" and "Rock DJ." In 2001 Williams' duet with Nicole Kidman on the classic pop tune "Somethin' Stupid" hit No. 1, and in the years that followed, he embraced a wide variety of music that could be filed as "pop," working with electropop pioneers like Pet Shop Boys and William Orbit on 2006's Rudebox and dipping into swing on two albums, 2001's Swing When You're Winning and 2013's Swings Both Ways .

Williams rejoined Take That in 2009, touring with the group on the 2011 Progress Live tour and popping in for the occasional show in the years that followed. He's also been focusing on his solo career, releasing the strutting The Heavy Entertainment Show in 2016 and announcing his first Las Vegas residency, Robbie Williams Live in Las Vegas, which goes up at the Wynn Las Vegas' Encore Theatre in March 2019.

Judge on america’s got talent.

I first saw you when you were on America’s Got Talent as a judge. I was so impressed with you I now have a lot of your music. If you ever tour or do a Las Vegas Residency again I would definitely travel to see you. When I listen to you my heart smiles.

20 year long dream come true

Robbie, I’m one of your 5 Canadian fans. You are my favourite artist. Dream come true. Your voice gets better and better with age. I had great tickets, the theatre is very nice. I am so impressed with the live performance. I was planning to go back in 2020, but that didn’t happen. Thank you for your music.

opening weekend 3/8/19

Wynn is the poshest casino in Vegas. The Shops are insane, including a McQueen and a Dior store, so definitely explore the property while you're there for the show. Encore is an intimate theater of 1,500 seats with great sound and the production is excellent. You won't see Robbie Williams perform in such a small venue anywhere else in the world. His voice is much improved since he quit smoking and he seems to focus on hitting the notes in this setting. The set list on his Take the Crown tour was more satisfying for a fan but an uninitiated listener will appreciate the familiarity of the songs in the Vegas set and the humor. It is quintessentially a Vegas show in the tradition of Wayne Newton, Elvis and Dean Martin. Would love to see more strings incorporated into the song arrangements ala Live at Royal Albert Hall.

Great View - Even in the cheap Seats!

I think you will enjoy the show, regardless of the seats you manage to get. The venue is so intimate it really doesn't matter where you are you will be close up and personal. A truly entertaining performance. A mix of songs, chatting and jokes. Some people were disappointed Rob didn't do more of his big hits and did some covers, but he is a showman and this was HIS show. He did himself proud. If you're a Robbie fan and can afford to, treat yourself to a slice of Robbie and a slice of Vegas.

Fantastic evening with a minus!

I had the VIP-tickets mit photo-option. The ticket-pickup worked perfectly. Two days before the concert I got an email with the instructions to the VIP expiration. The experience of meeting Robbie was unique!! He greeted me, hugged me, I could talk to him a little and then the photo. And because of this photo I'm still annoyed today! It was supposedly a professional photographer!? Allegedly!!? He took the pictures very quickly. He did not wait for man to stand still and took only upper body photos. An impudence! My VIP ticket was very expensive! I would have expected at least a professional photo!! I was so disappointed afterwards. This photo should be a beautiful memory for life !!!! The concert in this theater was fantastic. I sat in the second row. Being so close to the artist was special! As I said, it was a fantastic evening with a minus!

ROBBIE IN VEGAS

Show was great but the venue considering quite a new building where concert held i could not get to my allocated seat , im in a wheelchair paraplegic so paralysed from chest down, cannot walk but able to transfer on my own to a seat BUT there is no lift access to front only if you could walk down a lot of very steep steps so had to stay in my wheelchair in another area towards back, so caused me some unnessasary embarresment to start and considering they had been fully informed of my visit that day and arranged / changed good seats for me via management earlier that day, so access is issue at venue even for able bodied the steep narrow steps was a problem for some in high heels ect , but Robbie Willliams was great. The ushers done and helped as much as they could.

Great entertainer

We were so excited to be able to see Robbie in the US and he did not disappoint. The Vegas show had a Vegas type feel with dancers and old standards includes along with his great hits. We would definitely see him again.

Gotta see this show

After seeing RW live back in the UK a few times this show was just perfect as it allowed us to feel so much closer and felt more like an intimate show he has so much stage presence and would recommend if you get the chance go see this guy #robbiewilliams

Not too shabby!

Great performance, good venue. Started late and lasted less than two hours so a little on the stingy side for those who had travelled thousands of miles to see him. Imbalance of songs a little disappointing ..... more of the hits and less of the swing would have been better regardless of this being Vegas.

Brilliant overall performance

We had a fantastic time. Robbie was a brilliant all round performer. Jokes songs and stories where fantastic. Well done Robbie

Robbie Williams live at Mad Cool 2023: still the ultimate showman

Headlining the first night of the Madrid festival, Williams brings melodrama and self-effacing humour to his back catalogue of hits

“Stop, I’m fucked!” declares a wickedly giddy Robbie Williams as a play-pretend gurn begins to creep across his face. Yet the biggest risk to health and safety as the singer closes out night one of Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival 2023 isn’t any of his suggested personal vices. Instead, it’s the risk of human towers collapsing as Williams breaks into a rollicking rendition of 1997’s ‘Let Me Entertain You’ – audience members rush to lift one another on their shoulders in a scene of pantomime-level chaos. “I’m so fucking famous,” Williams says in response, cackling as he prowls down the stage’s runway and prompts another wave of ecstatic screams to rip through the festival grounds.

  • READ MORE: Robbie Williams on Damon Albarn, Morrissey and the dark side of Take That: “I have a cannon-full of quotes”

This is Williams distilled to his purest form: all of his firecracker energy barely fits on the festival’s eponymous main stage. Having been “mainly” sober for 20 years, he tells us, and happily married with four kids, the global star gives his Mad Cool headline slot his all, amping up the theatrics at every given opportunity. When he’s not ricocheting between hits like ‘Feel’ and ‘Kids’, he’s rambling through showbiz anecdotes at a leisurely storyteller’s pace, imparting questionable advice like a lad who has spent his entire night talking shit in the smoking area. It’s both sublime and ridiculous at once.

Robbie Williams

Such self-awareness is part of his charm, though, as is his willingness to engage directly with the audience. Throughout a riotous ‘Candy’ he references the Oprah ‘you get a car’ meme as he throws t-shirts into the crowd, before breaking into the track’s chant-along chorus. He’s not above offering an Oasis cover either, leaning forward and arching his head up towards the mic stand as he sings ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ with genuine sincerity. Later, he has a go at ‘Could It Be Magic’ before giving up. “I can’t be bothered,” Williams exclaims through laughter. “Between me and you, I don’t think Take That were ever big in Spain.” He almost immediately follows this up with a 30 second-long rendition of the US national anthem. Of course.

If his show – which is in support of his latest compilation album, 2022’s ‘XXV’ – sometimes borders on being Butlin’s-style cheesy, it is unashamedly so: Williams performs with too much honesty and pure joy to get snobby about. Bedecked in a heavyweight silver chain and floor-length robe, he delivers a soaring rendition of ‘The Flood’, raising his mic stand above his head as the song hits its emotional climax. ‘Love My Life’, a ballad-like slice of posi-pop, features a rainbow confetti cannon.

Robbie Williams

All this gives texture, drama and soul to a show that is unpredictable and human. As he introduces ‘Angels’ by talking about how he overcame a decade of mental health issues, it is clear that, for Williams, entertaining thousands of people at festivals like this one still acts as a healing salve. He is a performer with more than enough heart to match his humour.

His next two albums, Escapology , released in 2002, and Intensive Care , released in 2005, topped the UK Albums Chart, and contained the hits Feel and Tripping .

He released his first live album, Live at Knebworth , in 2003, and his first greatest hits album, Greatest Hits , in 2004, with the latter certified six times platinum by the BPI and eight times platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).

Robbie Williams released his seventh album, Rudebox , in October 2006, his eighth album, Reality Killed the Video Star , in November 2009, and Take the Crown, his ninth studio album, in November 2012.

His tenth studio album, Swings Both Ways , was released in 2013. In 2016, Robbie Williams released his eleventh studio album, The Heavy Entertainment Show , and his twelfth album, The Christmas Present , in 2019.

His discography includes twelve studio albums, one live album, ten compilation albums, one extended play, ten video albums, fifty-nine singles, six promotional singles and fifty-six music videos.

Six of his albums are among the top 100 biggest-selling albums in the UK, and the artist gained a Guinness World Record in 2006 for selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day during his Close Encounters Tour .

Over time, Robbie Williams received 18 Brit Awards, winning Best British Male Artist four times, Outstanding Contribution to Music twice, an Icon Award for his lasting impact on British culture, eight German ECHO Awards, and three MTV European Music Awards.

To date, he sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time

Take That concert in Poland 2024

Take That, the boy band that features Robbie Williams as one of its former members, will perform in Poland for the first time. The concert will take place on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Atlas Arena in Łódź. The Łódź entertainment hall can accommodate approximately 13,400 people on the floor and stands. Will the Prestige MJM agency manage to find enough interested attendees for this event? We shall see soon. Robbie Williams’ concert had been canceled once, but that was organized at the National Stadium in Warsaw, which holds as many as 73,000 people. The organizing agency, Live Nation, issued only a brief statement.

Presale tickets for Take That’s concert in Poland for registered users of Bilet Serwis will begin on May 2 at 10 a.m. General sales will begin on May 3 at 10 a.m. on www.biletserwis.pl.

The legendary British boy band will present its latest world-class concert show. The audience will experience a spectacle that will leave them amazed and long remembered. This will be a grand production with a large scope. Additionally, the songs they play are now firmly entrenched in the global pop music repertoire. I cordially invite you to the Take That concert. It will be an unforgettable evening, said Janusz Stefański from the Prestige MJM agency.

Andrzej “Piasek” Piaseczny will open for Take That.

I went to the Take That re-union concert in Düsseldorf some years. One of the best concerts I have ever been. The pre-group were the pet shop boys. They were so good. We all thought they will be hard to beat. How wrong we were! Take That started for approx an hour without RW and were absolutely fantastic. Then a very strange thing was brought on stage, with RW on top. What an entrance... then everything changed. He started straight away with one his best. I think it was Rock DJ. In a Nutshell, Take That was brilliant but unbeatable with RW together. If ever you have the chance to see him, do go. You will of regret it.

I have to say that I have mixed feelings about this concert. He came on late at 9pm finished 10:15pm. He only did a few classic songs. He should have come on at 7 or 8:30pm and we had no open act. He made it up by performing Angels, Strong, No Regrets but he should have performed Rock DJ and Millennium. Why he did Feel and Let me entertain you. he did perform love my life.

could have been better if he came on time. 3/5

In full transparency, this is a copy of a review on the Radio Creme Brulee blog.

It is not too far in the distant past that Las Vegas concert residencies were associated with fading pop stars that were way past their commercial prime. More often than not, the artists that gravitated to Las Vegas concert residencies had enjoyed their fair share of the limelight in America’s musical mainstream. Many attribute the dramatic shift in perception for these shows to Celine Dion (with specific regard to her “A New Day” tour). The tour featured theatrical performances and imbibed the spirit of glitz and excess that Las Vegas is often characterized by. Since then, artists such as Elton John, Britney Spears, and Jennifer Lopez have carried on this tradition with immense success. The newest twist to the history of Las Vegas residencies is one that British pop superstar Robbie Williams just might be the catalyst for.

Robbie Williams is one of the more noteworthy symptoms of the US musical mainstream’s stubborn insularity from the global pop music landscape. Despite being the recipient of the second largest recording contract (valued at 80 million pounds) of all time, Robbie Williams (like many artists from the UK) has been overlooked by US terrestrial radio’s gatekeepers. These gatekeepers enjoy immense power to shape public opinion even today despite the rapid proliferation of alternate venues for music discovery besides terrestrial radio in the last two decades. As a result, Robbie Williams’ chart success in the US has been rather lackluster. None of his singles have entered the Billboard Top 40 singles chart. This is in stark contrast to his larger-than-life popularity overseas (literally everywhere besides the US). Furthermore, it has been almost two decades since he last performed live in the US.

Given this reality, it is rather interesting that Robbie Williams chose a Las Vegas concert residency route as opposed to a mini-tour covering the US’ key media hubs. The second element of surprise stems from the conscious choice of venue. Williams’ team has opted for the intimacy of the Encore Theater at Wynn Resorts. This is quite a shift for someone that in Europe is considered a stadium act. The final element of surprise is the overwhelming demand for tickets for these shows. The six shows scheduled for March 2019 have sold out. It would be interesting to see data highlighting the split between domestic and international demand for these tickets. Six more dates have been added between the months of June and July in Las Vegas.

On the evening of March 9, as concert attendees began to fill in the Encore theatre and indulge in friendly banter with each other, it became clear that one common theme linked many of the Americans in the audience. Most of these people either had foreign ties (by virtue of having lived or studied in Europe at some point in their lives) or had discovered Robbie Williams in the couple of years in the late 90s during which his promotion team tried to actively promote him on American television (to compensate for the lack of acceptance from American terrestrial radio gatekeepers).

My expectations of the concert were moderate – not because I expected to be underwhelmed but because I assumed (incorrectly of course!) that the intimacy of the Encore Theatre automatically meant that the show would be a mellow affair with Robbie Williams sitting on a stool performing mostly swing covers. While covers comprised a significant portion of the setlist, the concert was as far from a mellow affair as it could be. The concert opened with a call to the audience to sing the cheeky and irreverent “National Anthem of Robbie” with the lyrics being projected on to the curtains. The audience obliged with an overabundance of enthusiasm as they sang along hilarious lyrics such as

“Yes he went to rehab

Drugs and drinks took him low

God bless our Robbie

He can swing both ways

He is totally global

Except in the US of A”

This was followed by a video of Robbie Williams being broadcast on the curtains with the crowd cheering on deliriously. The curtains opened to a jaw-dropping stage setup. This was the first indication that Robbie Williams had decided to emulate elements of a stadium concert setup within the smaller confines of a theatre. In fact, the stage set design is one of the smartest uses of spaces I have seen in a very long time. The stage featured three ramps two of which were joined like a horseshoe and a center ramp. There were circular spaces between the ramps which is where the band performed. Robbie Williams made a rather dramatic entry via a suspended platform from the ceiling of the theatre.

The concert was an invigorating cocktail of Robbie’s unapologetic and ego-driven lack of political correctness, quirky humor with not even a hint of inhibition, his penchant for excesses, and the glitz and theatrics laced with a touch of class that have come to characterize Las Vegas as a music concert destination. For an artist that has not been in the American limelight for over 15 years, Robbie Williams embodied the spirit of Vegas with relative ease. In addition to the magnificent stage, Robbie’s entourage featured a troupe of drop dead gorgeous female dancers that performed eye-popping dance routines on songs such as “Rock DJ”, “Let Me Entertain You”, and “Swings both ways”. The euphoria factor of this concert surged ten-fold whenever they were on stage.

There were some defining elements of the concert worth highlighting. The first was a reverence for Las Vegas as demonstrated by the high-adrenaline performances. The second was an ode to Robbie Williams’ beginnings as the dreamy-eyed boy from Stoke-on-Trent (UK) as showcased on performances of songs such as “Mr Bojangles” and “Sweet Caroline” (a Neil Diamond cover performed with his father Pete Conway). In fact, “Sweet Caroline” was one of two songs that featured Robbie’s father – a rather unusual and heartwarming twist to a typical concert format. The final element was Robbie Williams’ commitment to audience engagement. For his performance of “Something Stupid”, he invited an Australian fan from the audience and serenaded her on a couch on a stage. It is fair to say that she took full advantage of the situation and probably got the most bang for her buck as she squeezed his buttocks before leaving the stage. He was aware that people had traveled from different parts of the world for this concert. He asked people to yell out and identify themselves as he did a roll call for Europeans, Australians, Kiwis, and finally Americans. To the Americans, he yelled “why don’t you tell your f**kin friends about me???? I don’t want to be infamous for NOT being famous in America”.

Musically, the highlights of the night were “Feel”, “Rock DJ”, “Swings both ways”, “Let me entertain you” and the penultimate track of the evening – “Angels” (which he introduced by saying “OK fine, I’ll perform that one hit”). The night ended with a cover of “My Way” (made popular by Frank Sinatra). The performance was a subtle nod to the artist that had come to define the early history of Las Vegas concert residencies. It was minimalist at best with only Robbie Williams and his primary songwriting partner Guy Chambers on the piano. At the end of the song, Robbie Williams exited by sinking in to the stage while Guy Chambers continued to play the piano as the curtains descended slowly. There was something symbolic about that moment as it focused the spotlight on the songwriting partnership that sowed the seeds for Robbie Williams’ monumental rise to stardom. Prior to this musical alliance, the success of Robbie Williams was far from a foregone conclusion.

One cannot doubt the larger than life ambition of Robbie Williams in his creative vision for this show. He undoubtedly tried to incorporate a lot but in doing so, he may have inadvertently eschewed the primary aspect of his career – his own hits. With a musical legacy spanning over 11 albums as a solo artist (and fifteen albums including the ones with Take That), he was never going to be in a position to do justice to all of it. That being said, he may have gone too far the other way with a covers-heavy setlist. In my humble opinion, that might have been a miscalculation in the context of an artist trying to reacquaint himself with American audiences. His legacy has been largely built off his own hits as opposed to those of others. This might be my only criticism (albeit a rather significant one) of the concert.

The concert is a reminder that America’s insulation from the European musical mainstream since the mid-90s is America’s loss. It is also a reminder that pop music can be fun, classy, and entertaining without being sonically hollow. It is my sincere hope that Robbie Williams’ return to the American stage forces a re-evaluation of gatekeepers in the American musical mainstream that have largely failed in their endeavor to uphold one of the fundamental tenets of responsible media – diversity.

On the other hand, Robbie Williams may have found the city that embodies his spirit and both him and his concert audience are better off for it. I hope that this performance not only ushers in a new era for Robbie Williams’ relationship with America but also for the many talented popstars from across the Atlantic that have been relegated to relative obscurity in America.
