We had a great guide!

We had a great guide, Alberto, who made the tour very enjoyable. He was so knowledgeable and entertaining. We had a very comprehensive journey around the center of Paris and even the children found him interesting and fun. I would highly recommend requesting Alberto for your next visit.

AVOID - RIP OFF COMPANY

We had our tour (April 2021) cancelled due to COVID restrictions. We were asked to take a voucher rather than a refund which we accepted at the time. We have no plans to travel abroad since it was cancelled and have asked to get a refund of the voucher. I have emailed on several occasions and been ignored, I have written to the address listed at Companies House for it to be returned by Royal Mail so it seems even the listed head office address isn’t real! Total rip off company, would never use them again. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

Great free walking tours in Berlin and Prague

I had free walking tours and paid tours during my Europe trip. The guides were absolutely fantastic. Especially the one in Berlin and Prague, both Spanish speakers (if I recall well, the boy in Berlin was from Argentina and the girl in Prague from Mexico). You can tell they love thir jobs. I really enjoyed the dinamic of the free walking tours. Totally recommend Sandemans.

This tour company is abysmal

This tour company is abysmal. They didn't respond to my question for over a month. However, they were quick to message when the tour was cancelled due to not meeting the minimum number of tourists. I sent a response asking if there were alternative dates or time slots that I could join, but they didn't respond. Their communication is shocking!!

We booked a free guided walking tour in…

We booked a free guided walking tour in Jerusalem and received confirmation by email. However, the guide never showed up. We would appreciate at least to be informed about the cancellation per email so we could plan our day otherwise. We like the concept, but not the execution.

It was a really bad experience because the stupid ass guide didnt show up and then we couldnt contact the Company so i wouldnt recommend at all. Dont waste your money on this because its not worth it at all Hope you have a nice day

Brussels tour with Fraser

Went on a free tour of Brussels with Fraser and it was the best tour we’ve ever had. He was full of humor and history and happy to tell us the best places to go for whatever we were in the mood for. One of his recs was one of our best meals. He truly helped to connect us to this beautiful city while learning so much in a fun way. Tour lasted 3 hours but could not of had a better time. Do not hesitate to book a tour with Fraser, he really made our day so much more memorable!! ( and we’ve done about 5 other city tours…. Never left a review) He’s just that great!!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! DO NOT PAY FOR THIS BULLSH!T!

HORRIBLE! AWFUL! OUR TOUR-GUIDE DID NOT SHOW UP! THEY SCAMMED US! My experience with this company was awful. We had booked a tour in Edinburgh and we even paid in advance so that we were sure that we would get it. The day where we were supposed to meet our guide and get a beautiful tour through Edinburgh, we were basically robbed. They scammed us. It is not okay. We paid money for this tour and for the tour-guide but no one showed up. No tour-guide showed up, even though we had paid for it already. This is bad service. After no one came, we tried calling both the tour-guide and the company - no one answered.

I went to a few Sandeman Tours in different cities within Europe and this was by far my fave. Berlin is so rich in history and our tour guide did an excellent job on presenting all these facts while keeping us interested the entire 3 hours of the tour. Make sure you leave a big tip!

This is the second trip in which I used Sandeman's guides for tourism; first in Munich, now here in Berlin. I highly recommend them. Stephanie Taylor was our tour guide for both the free Berlin walk and the next day for the Sachsenhausen trip. She LOVES everything Berlin, and I mean heaps of information was inside that brain of hers! In fact, she said this time next year she will be publishing a book about Berlin (thus, this is why I mentioned her last name, so I will be sure to check it out!) I call my husband "The unhappy tourist" because he acts like seeing new sights is torture. He actually enjoyed the two tours because Stephanie was informative and humorous. Yeah!

It really depends on our guide (and how they feel that day I guess). I did the free tour with Chris and he did not know any of the answers to the questions I (and some of the others) asked, making it seem like he had only memorized what he had to for the tour even though he said that he had done it for awhile. Overall it was really informative though, and I learned a lot about the city--like things I had walked past and not known what they were, such as the parking lot that used to be Hitlers bunker. My second tour was the alternative tour where you see graffiti and street art (you can see that yourself, but you also receive an explanation) and that was with Leo who was great. He really seemed like he knew where he was going for everything, even though sometimes when we got to places he would say that his favourite piece was gone but now there is something new (and he would probably know who the artist was and what they were about).

My family loves taking these tours because they are usually great and you learn a lot about the city you're in. When we saw that there was one in berlin we just had to go! We got to the place where the tour was starting and found the red umbrella. There was a lot of people because it was New Year's Eve which is really busy. I would recommend getting a ticket before going just in case it gets super busy. The way it works is at the end of your tour you pay how much you think the tour was worth. We saw all of the great sites in Berlin like the Berlin Wall, CheckPoint Charlie, and so many other cool places. Our tour guide Stephen was amazing. He was so witty and was a great tour guide for Berlin. I have been on lots of these tours and he was my favorite tour guide I've ever had. He kept everyone excited about Berlin, and you learned everything but it was super fun with him as our tour guide. This tour was the best and I really can't wait for my next one!

I love free walking tours. The guides are usually very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and have a genuine love for the city. Out of all the free walking tours I've been on (I've been to 9, but this is my first Sandemans tour), Berlin's complicated history is probably the most difficult to cover. There are so many layers of history and many of the topics are not very lighthearted. Here's the main reason for my 3 star review: why aren't our guides Germans? Most of the free walking tours I've been on are led by natives who can explain the culture and go a level deeper than just explaining the history of the sites. Our guide was nice, but the tour felt a bit rushed and bland. She didn't really care to talk to us as we were walking from site to site nor was she very engaging. A bit disappointing. Meet up is at the Brandenburg Gate and goes through the Holocaust Memorial, Topography of Terror, Berlin Wall, and several other sites. Tour lasted for about 3 hours. Even though it was 3 hours, it didn't feel like we covered a lot since there's a lot of history at each location.

When I told people I was going to Berlin, everyone who had been to Berlin advised me to do a free walking tour. And very good advice it was. A friend specifically recommended Sandemans New Europe tours, and I recommend them too. While the tour is free, you are expected (not required, but expected) to tip the tour guide, which is the source of their income. I like this payment structure, as if you are on a budget, you don't have to pay more than you can afford. I'm sure there are some cheap (not poor, but cheap) people who try and get away with paying nothing or as close to nothing as possible, but the majority of people pay a fair rate. (My sister and I tipped €10 each, which I think is pretty reasonable.) When you arrive at Brandenburg Gate, the meeting spot for your tour, it's a bit chaotic and unorganized. (We had pre-paid for our tickets, and when we went up to an employee to sign in, we were told to go to her colleague, who told us to go back to the first person, and we were bounced back and forth between employees and despite the website saying you can skip the line if you've pre-paid, we still had to wait for people who had paid. We weren't impressed with the sign-in process.) There were a LOT of people waiting for the tour, but thankfully the crowd was broken down into smaller groups of a more manageable 20 to 30 people. Our tour guide was Mark Connolly, and he was very good. He was informative and presented the information in an interesting and easy to understand manner. The tour was about three hours, and we saw various sights such as the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, and the Holocaust Memorial. We liked the tour so much that we signed up for the Sachsenhausen tour the next day. I definitely recommend them, and I'm thrilled to discover that Sandemans New Europe has tours in Prague, where I will be going in October.

Santi was phenomenal! A natural storyteller, he was able to communicate a lot of historical facts using modern language. Ex: so when Irene got lonely (on top of the Brandenburg Gate), she looked on Tinder and found a guy that seemed nice. But as with many blind/internet dates, he showed up short, with a funny hat, and was a control freak. Next thing she knew though, he came storming through the gate and forcefully took her back to Paris (Napoleon). He told it 100x better, but I hope you get the idea.

I love Sandeman's tours. They never fail me. I took a free walking tour with Leen, and she is awesome. She is so energetic and so knowledgable! We walked through a lot of Berlin in the three hours (including a twenty-minute break), and it was fun. I got to learn about Berlin much more than I otherwise would have, and I understand Berlin much better now. I love Sandeman's tours. They are always from energetic, very knowledgable people, and I always learn so much. Highly, highly, highly recommend!

We took the half-day Third Reich tour with Rob Willis and it was excellent! He was friendly, informative, helpful, and thoughtful as he spoke on the subject. We explore a number of historical sites and Rob provided plenty of information and historical context to help you grasp the full significance of each stop, all while enticing you to come back and explore more! If you have the chance, this is an excellent way to get to know the history of the city and how the Nazi party rose to power. A huge thank you to Rob for leading the tour!
