Happy Adventure Tours have two 22” Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boats, RIBs or Zodiacs, in regular operation. Each boat has the capacity for 12 passengers and is available for private bookings, as well as individual add-ons to tours that usually run twice per day. Happy Adventure tours offers an In-shore tour: 2 hours, and an Off-shore tour: 3 hours. Fishing tours are also offered during the Recreational Groundfish Fishery, and shuttle transportation to and from back country camping locations are also offered throughout the summer.

Inshore Tour

Leaving from Terra Nova national park, the inshore tour explores the coastline and ventures on a sheltered boat ride to Minchins Cove. We will search for marine life along the way. Once in Minchins Cove, the boat will dock and guests will take a short hike on the shore to a small pond. Learning about the history of Minchin cove along the way. From here we will embark and explore the water back to the dock in Terra Nova. This is a great introduction to boating and a perfect short adventure for families with small children.

Sunset Tour

Leaving from Happy Adventure, the sunset tour explores the beauty of Newman Sound. We will search for marine life along the way and take in the amazing vistas as the days long hours come to a close. This is a perfect short adventure for couples and families.

Offshore Tour

The offshore tour offers spectacles that the view from land doesn’t reveal. Heading out to the puffin colony on Little Denier, hundreds of flocking and nesting puffins will be visible on the cusp of the outstretched Atlantic. The zodiac will visit the resettled Community of Smokey Hole before traversing through the tight passageway of Scott’s tickle and then hugging the shoreline of Newman sound, giving visitors an up-close encounter with a sea cave locally named “the Dungeon”. The offshore tour gives the best chance for sightings of whales, puffins, eagles, and any icebergs that have lumbered their way into the bay.

Fishing Tour

Leaving from either the Visitor Centre in Terra Nova National Park or from the Happy Adventure Inn, located in the town of Happy Adventure, the offshore tour offers spectacles that the view from land doesn’t reveal. “Classical Christian education (CCE) is a time-tested educational system which establishes a biblical worldview (called Paideia), incorporates methods based on natural phases of student development, cultivates the seven Christian Virtues, trains student reasoning through the Trivium (Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric), and interacts with the historical Great Books.” Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS)

We seek to educate through a tried and true tradition of liberal education. This is not mainstream education in any way, it aims at wisdom and not wealth, educating the whole person, body and soul, and cultivating excellence rather than conformity.

Classical Christian education teaches students how to think and how to live, to read and write and think logically and creatively. In a time where the mass majority of people are ruled by emotion and quickly persuaded by the flow of culture and what the media (and social media) is proclaiming, it is essential that we develop the minds, wills, and affections of our children to be able to know and discern what is true, good, and beautiful and to eloquently articulate to others what is right.

Eight Common Objections

In Ephesians, Paul uses the word paideia when he addresses fathers and how they are to raise up their children: “and you fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the [paideia] of the Lord.” The Greek word for the ancient concept of paideia has no exact English translation. The term is one of the more broadly used foreign words in the classical Christian education movement. It is often translated as “nurture and admonition,” or “discipline and instruction,” as seen in different translations of Ephesians 6:4. It is essentially the way a culture is formed and includes the entire upbringing and education that forms the soul of a person. Paideia shapes what a person loves and enjoys, and how they think and act. It does not refer only to the transfer of knowledge from teacher to student, but the transmission of culture from teacher to student. Ultimately, that is what education is- enculturation. It is teaching not only the facts and figures, but the values and morals of a culture. To the Christian, this means conveying the culture of the Church, the Paideia of God. We do not seek to convey the flawed sin-marked culture seen in many churches, and in our surrounding society but the true biblical culture seen in scripture. This is the Paideia of God.

”Classical education considers the whole person, including their worldview, habits, thought patterns, character, and culture. As a person grows up, they absorb their surroundings, not just the answers to test questions. Their education shapes who they are, and how they see the world and act within it. Education should be first and foremost about the cultivation of virtue and a deep appreciation of truth, goodness, and beauty in the souls of our kids. The objective, then, is to shape the virtues and sharpen the reason of students so that these things are in line with God’s will — a Christian Paideia.” --- Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS)

The Seven Christian Virtues.

The seven liberal arts..

The Trivium

The Trivium is commonly known as the three arts of language- grammar, dialectic (logic), and rhetoric. Practically, the trivium refers to different stages of education in the K-12 system. The Grammar Stage is often synonymous with elementary school, The Logic/Dialectic Stage with middle school, and The Rhetoric Stage with high school.

Image

The Grammar Stage K-5th grades

The Dialectic/Logic Stage 6th-8th grades

The Rhetoric Stage 9th-12th grades

The Quadrivium

In 1948, Dorothy Sayers wrote an essay titled "The Lost Tools of Learning". This short essay is an integral work to the beginnings of classical Christian education. In her essay, she discusses her insightful observations suggesting that the three arts of language- grammar, logic and rhetoric are well suited to the stages of development of a child. Young children enjoy repetition, songs, and chants and at this stage learning focuses on memorizing facts and rules and any ‘grammar’ of a subject (i.e. multiplication tables, geography of a place, dates and events in history, etc). As they grow, junior high students become argumentative and want to know why things are the way they are. Here they begin to learn formal logic and start to make connections between the facts that they have learned in previous years. High school students begin having a strong desire to express themselves and at this stage they learn to do so in meaningful, clear and eloquent ways, through the art of rhetoric.

While the opening year of The Terra Nova School will only include The Grammar School, we hope to grow quickly, yet wisely into developing our Dialectic and Rhetoric Schools in the future. Please pray with us for that end!

Thank you for your interest in The Terra Nova School. We would love to follow up with you and answer any of your questions.

The selection of the biketour routes is subject to high standards. They must include cultural sights and the beauty of the landscape. Traffic-free forest and meadow paths and routes on minor roads are always preferred. Low-traffic secondary roads are included only when necessary. On our cycling tours we provide you with the terranova  touring-bike or  the terranova Ebike. Our bikes got developed by us in close cooperation with the bicycle industry for the special needs of bicycle touring. The careful and regular maintenance of our bicycles is carried out in our own workshop under professional supervision. The criteria for the specification of our bicycles are their safety and comfort for the guest.

Look forward to excitingly conveyed culture and history

Cuisine, art and winecellars we will introduce to you on all our bicycle tours. The itinerary of our cycling routes are based on the culturally significant places of the regions. Therefore, the visit and explanation of these places and their history are an important part of all our trips.  Guided tours with local certified experts in mportant buildings, places and monuments are always part of our guided biketours. Our guests do not want to travel as a "herd"! A manageable number of participants increases the cycling pleasure, it promotes better understanding during guided tours and it makes individual cycling guests out of "group members". That is why the number of guests on our group tours is limited. The average number of guests per bike tour is 10.

The careful selection of accommodation during our biketours

The selection of our hotelpartners is made with special consideration of their unique features: Atmosphere, comfort, location and cuisine. The hotels and their special features are an important part of the terranova bicycle travel experience. Hotels with historical and regional ambience are preferred over houses with only functional facilities. Anywhere you rest up has been vetted by a member of our team, and the relationships we’ve nurtured with hoteliers means you always get preferential treatment.

Curious about what Terra Nova High School has to offer?

Take a tiger tour,   , we thank you for your interest in terra nova high school, the window to book a tiger tour for your incoming 8th grader has closed. , please follow the link below to join our waiting list for any possible tour dates being added to the calendar., tiger tour waiting list, learn more about tiger tours below., why schedule your student for a tiger tour.

A Tiger tour provides an opportunity for potential students to learn all that TN has to offer. This program is tailored primarily to those who have not made a choice about which JUHSD high school they’d like to attend; including middle-school students who live outside of the district, private school students and new local students.

You may be wondering why Terra Nova chooses to do tours instead of shadowing.  When a student shadows, they experience whatever the class is doing for the day, which in some cases can be fun, if the lesson is something easily followed and interactive. On the other hand, they may be sitting through a lecture and taking notes or an hour of test taking.  By touring, the student guides are experienced and can read the classroom to see if the lesson is appropriate.  They are much more free to move in and out of classrooms as they see fit and show them other parts of the campus besides just the classes they take.

WHAT CAN MY STUDENTS EXPECT ON THEIR TIGER TOUR?

Tours are done in small groups to help to ease any angst your child may be feeling about being on a high school campus. Each group of 4-5 visiting students is matched with 2 trained student representatives based on the interests you provide on our registration questionnaire and the school they are currently attending.

During their morning on campus, students will get a comprehensive tour of the school, have the opportunity to interact with high school students, meet faculty, visit classrooms and experience firsthand a day in the life of a Tiger.

*** We do not accommodate requests for one-on-one shadowing or requests for specific TN students to tour.

WHEN CAN MY STUDENT TAKE A TOUR?

Terra Nova High School provides tiger tour opportunities on Tuesdays or Thursdays during the months of October and November.  Tours begin in the main office at 8:45AM and end at 11:30 AM.  Students will be escorted back to the main office for pick up.

Tour appointments can be set up by the parent/guardian of the touring student only.

Once your request is received, you will be emailed a confirmation email.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

A Tradition of Excellence

TerraNova NEXT represents the next generation of TerraNova assessments. Just like TerraNova3, this new assessment provides highly accurate measurement of important skills and knowledge, and helps educators understand how their students are progressing toward standards, and how they are performing relative to their peers. TerraNova NEXT compares student performance on objectives against a nationally inclusive and representative sample. TerraNova also provides in-depth diagnostic student data and provides normative scores, objective mastery information by skill and proficiency/performance levels to target instruction to students at all levels.  All versions of TerraNova are linked to a common growth scale allowing you to monitor student progress over time.

The TerraNova NEXT assessment series continues to build on best practices and recommendations about how students should be assessed.  Items were carefully selected to ensure that the assessment avoids bias for culturally diverse students and is reliable and valid so that student data are accurate and useful in order to make sound educational and placement decisions.

  • TerraNova NEXT maintains norm references and is more aligned to college- and career- ready indicators.
  • The new design saves time: there are no longer any hand scoring requirements as the tests are now 100% autoscored.
  • As a flexible and fully accessible test, TerraNova NEXT is available for grades K–8 in both online and paper modes.
  • TerraNova NEXT provides fast turnaround of results. All data and reports will be available in DRC Interactive Reporting for educators to dive deeper into district/diocese, school, student, and class performance.
  • TerraNova NEXT has the same technically sound, reliable, and valid qualities that you have come to expect from TerraNova3. It will continue to provide norm-referenced, criterion-referenced, and proficiency/performance-level data for your program.
  • TerraNova NEXT ties to the DRC BEACON interim assessments, allowing you to integrate both assessments as part of a through-year assessment approach.
