Bill Bryson is beloved for his travel writing, but his new book takes us not to Australia or to Europe or to Iowa, but on a journey inside our own bodies. And it's called — naturally — The Body . Bryson says he's genuinely fascinated by the ways our bodies work. "I mean, once you start delving into the body and how it's put together, and what a miracle life is when you think about it," he says, "each of us is made up of 37 trillion cells, and there's nothing in charge. I mean all of those cells, you just have chaotic activity going on, and little chemical signals going from one cell to another. And yet somehow, all this random chaotic activity results in a completely sentient, active, thinking human being."

Interview Highlights

On some of the lighter moments in his research

The Mütter Museum in Philadelphia is an extraordinary small museum, and one of the things they have there is this collection of objects that were kept by a doctor in the early 20th century who specialized in retrieving swallowed objects ... sometimes from saving people's lives, but often from people who had died because they choked on these things they swallowed. And it is the most extraordinary collection — you can look at open drawers, glass-covered drawers and see thousands of objects that he retrieved from the gullets and the esophaguses of unfortunate people. And everything from padlocks and opera glasses and just all kinds of things people have swallowed, either accidentally or, you know, by bizarre intent.

He'd retired, you know, he'd won the Revolutionary War and then served two heroic terms as president, and all he really wanted to do was just retire to Mount Vernon and have a quiet life. And he'd only just started enjoying his retirement. And he'd been out surveying the plantation on horseback one day in winter and it was raining, and he got very wet. And when he came home, unwisely, he ate dinner in in damp clothes. And then as a result of that, he got some kind of a throat infection — really probably no more than just a bad cold.

But then his doctors got hold of him, because he was a person of such eminence. Three doctors were called in, and they all came and looked into him. And what they did was they started bleeding him, which was the standard procedure for people who were unwell at that time ... they drained, you know, like 40 ounces of blood from him. And then when that didn't make him better they drained more and more ... And then in the end, they drained about 40 percent of his blood from him. And of course this had exactly the opposite effect of making him better, it made him much, much worse. And he died, poor man died, but essentially he was killed by his doctors — and ... you can't say that was a routine event in the 18th century. But it was pretty common.

On modern medical mysteries

Nobody's ever come up with a truly plausible explanation for why we yawn. Or even an explanation for why yawning is infectious. If you see someone yawn, you can almost not resist the urge to yawn yourself. I think probably lots of your listeners are fighting an urge to yawn right now ... There is no logical explanation for that. And it's hard to think of a way that you could ever test a hypothesis to see what the cause might be.

We don't understand chronic pain. You know, if you have some pain that just goes on and on and on, it makes your life a misery. There's no value in that. And yet you know this is a common occurrence for lots and lots of people. I mean, one of the greatest maladies affecting modern humans is backache. Lots and lots of people off work with chronic backache. There is no reason why you should have to suffer chronic backache, or any other kind of really chronic pain, and yet we do. Nobody really understands that. Almost anywhere you look in the body, you will find mystery.

On whether he thinks of his own body differently now

Yes, I do! I mean, first of all, I really appreciate what my body does for me. And I really do — the fact that there are all of these systems operating, one of the facts that just blew me away when I stumbled upon [it] when I was doing the book was that we all get cancer a couple of thousand times a year on average, they think. But the thing [is], only one or two of your cells turn cancerous, and then your immune system identifies those rogue cells and immediately kills them. So it doesn't turn into anything, it doesn't become tumorous or anything.

So if you get serious cancer, if you get cancer in the conventional sense that you know you have to go and have it treated, you've been really really unlucky — but probably your body has tens of thousands of times dealt with cancers in your body already. I found that amazing ... It is just a world of wonder.

Everything Is a Journey Now

Changing our hair, getting divorced, taking spa vacations — they’re not just things we do; they’re “journeys.” The quest for better health is the greatest journey of all.

An illustration of the word "journey" done in a three dimensional typeface. The word is repeated and gets smaller in pink and green. At the end of the repetition is a butterfly.

By Lisa Miller

Drew Barrymore has been talking with Gayle King about her perimenopause “journey ,” and the soccer phenom Carli Lloyd has just divulged her fertility “journey .” By sharing her breast cancer story, Olivia Munn has said she hopes she will “help others find comfort, inspiration, and support on their own journey.” A recent interview with Anne Hathaway has been posted on Instagram with a headline highlighting her “ sobriety journey ,” and Kelly Clarkson has opened up about what Women’s Health calls her “ weight loss journey .” On TikTok, a zillion influencer-guides lead pilgrims on journeys through such ephemeral realms as faith, healing, grief, friendship, mastectomy, and therapy — often selling courses, supplements or eating plans as if they were talismans to help safeguard their path.

“Journey” has decisively taken its place in American speech. The word holds an upbeat utility these days, signaling struggle without darkness or detail, and expressing — in the broadest possible way — an individual’s experience of travails over time.

It’s often related to physical or mental health, but it can really be about anything: “Putting on your socks can be a journey of self-discovery,” said Beth Patton, who lives in Central Indiana and has relapsing polychondritis, an inflammatory disorder. In the chronic disease community, she said, “journey” is a debated word. “It’s a way to romanticize ordinary or unpleasant experiences, like, ‘Oh, this is something special and magical.’” Not everyone appreciates this, she said.

According to the linguistics professor Jesse Egbert at Northern Arizona University, the use of “journey” (the noun) has nearly doubled in American English since 1990, with the most frequent instances occurring online. Mining a new database of conversational American English he and colleagues are building, Egbert could show exactly how colloquial “journey” has become: One woman in Pennsylvania described her “journey to become a morning person,” while another, in Massachusetts, said she was “on a journey of trying to like fish.”

Egbert was able to further demonstrate how the word itself has undergone a transformative journey — what linguists call “semantic drift.” It wasn’t so long ago that Americans mostly used “journey” to mean a literal trip, whereas now it’s more popular as a metaphor. Egbert demonstrated this by searching the more than one billion words in a database called COCA for the nouns people put before “journey” to clarify what sort they’re on. Between 1990 and 2005, the most common modifier was “return,” followed by words like “ocean,” “train,” “mile,” “night,” “overland,” and “bus.”

But between 2006 and 2019, usage shifted. “Return” remains the most common noun modifier to journey, but now it’s followed closely by “faith,” “cancer,” and “life.” Among the top 25 nouns used to modify “journey” today are: “soul,” “adoption,” and “hair.”

In almost every language, “journey” has become a way to talk abstractly about outcomes, for good reason: According to what linguists call the “primary metaphor theory,” humans learn as babies crawling toward their toys that “‘purpose’ and ‘destination’ coincide,” said Elena Semino, a linguist at Lancaster University who specializes in metaphor. As we become able to accomplish our goals while sitting still (standardized tests! working from home!), ambition and travel diverge. Yet we continue to envision achievement as a matter of forward progress. This is why we say, “‘I know what I want, but I don’t know how to get there,’” Semino explained. “Or ‘I’m at a crossroads.’”

So it’s not surprising, perhaps, that as Americans started seeing good health as a desirable goal, achievable through their own actions and choices — and marketers encouraged these pursuits and commodified them — the words “journey” and “health” became inextricably linked. In 1898, C.W. Post wrote a pamphlet he called “The Road to Wellville,” which he attached to each box of his new product, Grape-Nuts. In 1926, the Postum Cereal Company republished the pamphlet as a small book , now with the subtitle, “A Personally Conducted Journey to the Land of Good Health by the Route of Right Living.”

The language (and business) of self-help so completely saturates culture, “it gets kind of hard to trace where a word started and where it came from,” said Jessica Lamb-Shapiro, author of “Promise Land: My Journey Through America’s Self-Help Culture.” Americans like to put an optimistic, brave spin on suffering, and “journey” seeped in because, Lamb-Shapiro speculated, it’s bland enough to “tackle really difficult things,” yet positive enough to “make them palatable and tolerable.”

“Journey” had fully entered medical speak by the 2010s. Many cancer patients recoiled from the “battle” language traditionally used by doctors, as well as by friends and relatives. In “Illness as Metaphor,” Susan Sontag had noted back in 1978 that “every physician and every attentive patient is familiar with, if perhaps inured to, this military terminology.” But now, opposition to the notion of disease as an enemy combatant reached a crescendo. To reflexively call an experience of cancer a battle created “winners” and “losers,” where death or long suffering represented a failure — of will, strength, determination, diet, behavior, or outlook — on the part of the patient.

Many patients “detest” the military metaphor, Robert Miller conceded in Oncology Times in 2010. Knowing this, Miller, then a breast cancer oncologist affiliated with Johns Hopkins, said he struggled to find the right words in composing a condolence note to a patient’s spouse. “I welcome suggestions,” he wrote.

“Journey” seemed less judgmental, more neutral. In Britain, the National Health Service had started to almost exclusively use “journey” language in reference to cancer (treatments were “pathways”). Semino, the metaphor expert whose father had died of cancer at a time when patients’ diagnoses were hidden from them, wanted to examine how patients talked about it — and whether that language caused them harm. In a research paper Semino published with colleagues in 2015, she looked at how patients talked about their cancer on forums online and found that they still used “battle” as often as they did “journey,” and that “journey” could be disempowering, as well.

For some people, talking about cancer as a “journey” gave them a sense of control and camaraderie — buddies traveling the same path — but others used the term to convey their exhaustion. Having cancer “is like trying to drive a coach and horses uphill with no back wheels on the coach,” one man wrote. Patients used “journey” to describe just how passive they felt or how reluctant to bear the burden of their disease. Separately, patients have told Semino how much they hate the word “journey,” saying it trivializes their experience, that it’s clichéd.

But it was too late: The metaphor already was everywhere. In 2014, Anna Wintour was asked which word she would like to banish from the fashion lexicon and she said, “journey.” The following year, Yolanda Foster, the mother of Gigi and Bella Hadid, told People magazine that while she was on her Lyme disease journey, two of her children were afflicted, too. Medical journals and government publications began describing insomnia , the effort to achieve health-care reform , diabetes , and the development of RSV vaccines as a journey. The term “healing journey,” in use since at least the mid-2010s, blew up around 2021. The phrase in news media referenced the experience of cancer , celebrity weight loss , trafficking of Indigenous children , Sean Combs’s creative process , spa vacations , amputation , and better sex .

On the Reddit channel Chronic Illness, one poster eloquently fumed that persistent sickness is not a journey. “It’s endless, pointless and repetitive. There’s no new ground to gain here.” The cultural insistence on illness as a journey, from which a traveler can learn useful, or even life-changing lessons, becomes something to “disassociate from, survive, endure.” It “causes social isolation.”

Although she concedes its downsides, Stephanie Swanson likes to think of herself as on a journey. Swanson, who is 37 and lives in Kansas City, was an engineer by training, with three young children, a career and a sideline as an aerialist, when she got long Covid in the summer of 2022. The things that had made her successful — her physical stamina, her ability to solve problems — evaporated. “I’ve had to give up my career, my hobbies, my physical abilities,” she said. “I’ve gained 30 pounds on my tiny dancer body. I’m doing the best I can with what I have.”

Swanson makes a distinction between “journey” and “trip”: The latter is circumscribed by a start, an end, and hotel and restaurant reservations along the way. She sees “journey” as a way to capture the arc of a whole life.

When she was running operations at a medical center at the University of Kansas, she always imagined slowing down to enjoy her kids more or to read a book, but “I felt like my head was going to explode.” Now Swanson has become a person who must rent a wheelchair for her upcoming trip to New York City, and she likes how “journey” accommodates all the challenging, unexpected circumstances she confronts. “To me, the word ‘journey’ resonates with choosing to be on a path of acceptance but not standing still,” she said. “I’m not giving up, but recognizing that this is the path I’m on.”

Ramani Durvasula uses ”journey” advisedly. A clinical psychologist in Los Angeles who treats women in emotionally abusive relationships, she recognizes how “journey” has been “eye-rollingly cheapened” and has started to experiment with alternatives. She’s tried “process.” She’s tried “healing trajectory.” But she falls back on journey, because it, more than any other word, expresses the step-by-step, sometimes circular or backward nature of enduring something hard. “Arguably, a journey doesn’t have a destination,” she said. “Have you ever taken a hike in a loop? And you end up exactly where you parked your car?”

But Durvasula does object to the easy-breezy healing so many journey hashtags promote, what she calls the “post-sobriety, post-weight-loss, now-I’m-in-love-again-after-my-toxic-relationship” reels. Too many TikToks show the crying in the car then the cute party dress, skipping over the middle, when people feel ugly, angry, self-loathing, and hopeless. “I want to see the hell,” she said. “I want to see the nightmare.”

When in 2020 a Swedish linguist named Charlotte Hommerberg studied how advanced cancer patients describe their experience, she found they used “battle” and “journey,” like everyone else. But most also used a third metaphor that conveyed not progress, fight or hope. They said cancer was like “imprisonment,” a feeling of being stuck — like a “free bird in a cage,” one person wrote. Powerless and going nowhere.

The Creator of The Body Journey

Confident, enthusiastic, fully alive, & poised to create life in a magical way.

For 28 years I have been practicing bodywork in a tiny room with amazing clients that feel like family. I feel like I’ve never worked a day in my life – to love people, to gently guide them to their essence and heal their aches and pains in the process is not work, it’s an honor!!

And now it’s time to do more of my life’s work, to break-out of my tiny massage room.  First, I’ve taken the best, most fun and effective parts of what I do in a massage session, and combined it into long unique sessions called "The Body Journey Massage Experience".

Secondly, I've developed comprehensive hands-on classes that teach all of my best to certified massage therapists around the world.

For years I’ve been doing only what the client wants — which was great, and the 'people pleaser' in me was very satisfied — but now I have the confidence to practice what I know works. It may not be for everybody, and that’s ok. The Body Journey is for the cosmic person, the mystic, the seeker, the experience junky. If that’s you, I will take you on a multi-dimensional journey that will lull you into a hypnotic, chi pulsing, centered state of being.

The Body Journey School of Massage’s mission is to keep the “art” alive in massage therapy. Every massage is a dynamic dance between the therapist and recipient. As a massage therapist, you have trained your mind and hands with the technical information.  You trust and have confidence in all that you learned and now, LET YOURSELF GO, follow your intuitions, CREATE YOUR UNIQUE ART.

Your clients want your all, give it to them. Don’t limit yourself by doing a system of techniques over an over. I will show you what I have found to work for me over the years. But, I am not the expert – you are. You have YOUR touch that is unique to you. Let’s flush it out together so you can deepen the clients experience on your table.

The InBody Journey A7 (1)_edited.jpg

Hello, I'm Jacqueline, I am a somatic & embodiment guide using ancient Yoga practices.

I empower women to prioritize their well-being through their body awareness so they can re-discover who they TRULY are and build a life they are EXCITED to live.

You don’t have to pour from an empty cup.

Here’s my story on how I transformed my life by making SPACE in it for ME.

Our childhood experiences leave an indelible mark on our lives, shaping our identities and influencing our paths in profound ways.

Growing up, my family moved frequently due to my father's job. While I cherished my father, the constant upheaval prevented me from ever feeling a true sense of belonging. Throughout my teenage years and into my twenties, I struggled with periods of depression and turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism. Uncertain of my identity and purpose, I found myself in jobs that failed to fulfill me but accommodated my nomadic lifestyle.

I continued to roam the West, seeking solace in places like Hawaii and California. Each move provided a temporary distraction from my inner turmoil. I mistakenly believed that changing my surroundings would bring clarity and resolution to my struggles. However, I soon realized that the allure of new beginnings only masked my pain temporarily. Eventually, the initial excitement would fade, leaving me once again lost and adrift.

Life became increasingly bleak and unbearable as I struggled to keep up with the relentless stressors while coping in unhealthy ways. I felt numb, depleted, and devoid of joy, with no clear path forward.

Then, everything changed on a life-altering day in Maui when I attended my first authentic yoga class. In that transformative moment, I experienced a profound awakening.

For the first time in years, I felt truly alive .

Yoga opened the door to a newfound sense of connection —to my spirit, my body, and my own presence. It breathed life back into my being, igniting a spark of vitality that had long lain dormant.

Life began to shift right before my eyes, and I found myself captivated by the transformation unfolding within me.

As I deepened my yoga practice, I discovered an incredible sense of peace and clarity. Despite the occasional discomfort of self-reflection, I learned to embrace who I truly am and what nourishes my soul.

With each yoga session, my worries melted away , and my stress levels plummeted. I felt more present , more alive, and more joyful than ever before.

It was a revelation to rediscover the inner joy that had long been dormant within me.

Driven by this newfound sense of purpose , I embarked on a journey to become a certified 200HR RYT Yoga Teacher in 2008. With each certification in Trauma Awareness, Yin and Restorative Yoga, and eventually Yoga Therapy, I deepened my understanding of the profound impact yoga can have on our lives.

Of course, yoga isn't a magical cure-all. It requires dedication and effort, just like anything worthwhile. I've faced my fair share of challenges, including closing my successful juice business and navigating through a divorce.

But through it all, yoga has been my steadfast anchor. It has taught me that true happiness stems from within, independent of external circumstances.

Whether you're single, a mother, or feeling stuck in an unhappy relationship, I want you to know that balance and peace are within reach.

You are worthy of a life filled with excitement and fulfillment.

It all begins with taking the time to reconnect with yourself.

In 2020, our world underwent a profound shift unlike any other in recent memory. Faced with unprecedented circumstances, we found ourselves navigating uncharted territory. Mandates to stay home, wear masks, and limit social interactions left many feeling bewildered, powerless, and emotionally overwhelmed.

Amidst the chaos, I saw an opportunity – both for the world and for myself. It was a chance to pause, to embrace stillness, and to listen to the whispers of my soul. In this introspective space, I discovered new insights and perspectives that ignited my curiosity and fueled my passion for personal growth and a renewed sense of purpose.

Reflecting on the lessons gleaned from my own life challenges, I felt compelled to share my journey with others. Thus, The InBody Journey was born – a platform dedicated to empowering individuals to embark on their own path of self-discovery and transformation. Through yoga, mindfulness, and somatic practices, I aspire to guide others toward a deeper understanding of themselves and a more vibrant, fulfilling life.

Driven by a passion for empowering others to navigate life's complexities with resilience and grace, I am committed to providing support, guidance, and inspiration to all those who seek to embark on their own journey of self-discovery and healing. Through The InBody Journey, my mission is to create a nurturing space where individuals can cultivate inner harmony, embrace their authentic selves, and live their lives with purpose and intention.

My  Why

The inbody journey.

The InBody Journey teaches women about living mindfully through several modalities from the teachings of

ancient yogic traditions and confirmed by modern day science.

- The InBody Journey (INBJ) empowers individuals to unlock their fullest potential by recognizing that the tools for peace and harmony lie within themselves.

- The programs are uniquely tailored to suit the needs of each individual. While they are not one-size-fits-all solutions, they may share similarities based on universal principles of wellness and personal growth.

- Our vision is to cultivate an immersive experience where participants can transcend self-limiting beliefs and narratives that hinder their progress, allowing them to break through barriers and overcome feelings of stagnation or sadness.

- At The InBody Journey (INBJ), my aim is to offer practical tools and resources that are readily accessible to those who are curious, open-minded, and new to the practice of yoga.

- My objective is to empower women to explore new avenues of learning and to cultivate a sense of trust in their own inner wisdom. This journey is about embodying your true essence, connecting with your Highest Self, and embracing authenticity.

- I am deeply passionate about living authentically and fostering connections with other women. My mission is to inspire and support you on your journey towards embracing your truest self.

A Journey Through the Human Body

Discover how the human body works inside.

Journey Through the Human Body Pavillion

Be immersed in this exciting journey and learn about human beings, from their inner workings to their relationship with other living creatures. Compare our anatomy to that of other vertebrates—it is surprising how much we have in common.

Evolution and Equilibrium

If 4.5 million years of evolution were condensed into a 24-hour day, homo sapiens wouldn't appear until just a few seconds before midnight. Do you want to know more about the origins of life and our ancestors?

Evolution and balance (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Did you know…?

It is not the size of our skulls that make us more or less intelligent than other animals, but the volume of the brain and its convolutions.

Our Protective Barrier: The Skin

Our thinnest layer of skin measures less than 0.04 of an inch: it's your eyelids! Your thickest layer of skin is usually the soles of your feet. Throughout your body, features such as the thickness, color, and texture of your skin change.

Life in perfect balance: Ecosphere (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Life in Perfect Balance: Ecosphere

The Ecosphere is a small ecosystem in a hermetically sealed container, where the only external input is light. Three very different organisms live together in forced cooperation: decomposers (bacteria), producers (microalgae), and consumers.

The heat brings out the colours (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Heat Brings Out Your Colors

Thermal imaging is used to find information on the distribution of body heat or objects, based on infrared radiation emitted from our skin or the surface. If you stand in front of the camera, you will see your colors.

Some vipers have a thermoreceptor cavity called a loreal pit located between their eyes and nostrils. They can sense the heat emitted by potential prey. There's no danger in hunting at night, right?

Our bodies need oxygen, which is taken in by the respiratory system via the lungs and diaphragm. The heart is a hydraulic pump that distributes oxygen to all the body's cells.

5 litres of life (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

One Gallon of Life

Blood transports oxygen and nutrients through the arteries to all the cells in the body and carries carbon dioxide and waste products via the veins. It also transports our defenses, hormones, and other vital substances.

Plastinated heart (2012) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

You're All Heart

The right half of the human heart receives deoxygenated blood from cells and tissues and pumps it into the lungs. The left half receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and sends it to our cells and tissues.

Whale heart (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

The human heart weighs approximately nine ounces and is capable of pumping one gallon of blood per minute. The heart of a whale like the one we have here measures 5 x 4 x 4 feet and weighs 400 pounds, and pumps 50 gallons of blood per minute.

We Are What We Eat

Is it possible to convert an apple into energy? That's exactly what our digestive system does. When we eat an apple, our digestive tract transforms it into nutrients. These are small molecules that pass into the blood to be transported to our cells. Is it magic? No, it's digestion.

Teeth and chewing (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Armed to the Teeth

They cut, tear, and shred… No, we are not talking about a ferocious industrial machine—we're talking about our teeth! The chewing done by our 32 teeth, with the help of saliva and our tongue, is the first stage of digestion.

Your weight in water (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Your Weight in Water

Water is life. Our cells need it to live, our blood needs it to flow, and our body needs it to regulate our temperature. On average, it accounts for 65% of our total body weight.

Birth: Formation and Growth

After fertilization comes the embryonic period (the first 56 days during which all the organs and individual adult structures are formed) and the fetal period (when it becomes a recognizable human and the structures will continue to mature until birth).

Fish and frogs in development aid (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Fish and Frogs Help Us Understand Fetal Development

The embryos of this tropical fish and frog are transparent, and so we can see how their organs form within a few hours. These animals are made of millions of cells that originate from just one (the fertilized egg), and can help us understand human development.

Training and growth (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

The gestation period in humans is about 40 weeks, not too long, for example, when compared with that of elephants which lasts 88 weeks, one of the longest in the animal kingdom.

The Nervous System

It collects information on our environment using our senses and it controls all the processes that occur within our body. You could say that it is the intelligence center that enables us to feel, remember, imagine, and create.

The nervous system (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

The More Wrinkled, the Better

How would you hold a sheet of paper in your hand? You'd crumple it up, right? This is exactly what happens to the cerebral cortex. The grooves and ridges of the cerebral cortex make up our "brain fingerprint."

To think or not to think, that is the question. (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

To Think or Not to Think, That Is the Question

Our brains emit electromagnetic waves: Alpha waves if we are relaxed and Beta waves if we are in a state of alert. They work almost like musical notes, capable of creating a balanced harmony when our thoughts and emotions are in sync.

Gallery of Curiosities

Before museums existed, Cabinets of Curiosities housed collections of animal, vegetable and mineral specimens. Here we can see some of the medical, zoological, and botanical collections from the 19th century.

From a vertebra (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

From One Vertebra

We have taken a single lumbar vertebra from one of the vertebrates that you see here in our collection. Its anatomy is similar to ours, consisting of a bony mass with a hole, which houses and protects the spinal cord. You can also see some protrusions, which are used to pull the muscles that produce movement.

Laboratory (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Plastination Laboratory and Collections

In this laboratory, objects related to life sciences and health are described and inventoried, and collections are prepared and preserved using various techniques such as fluid preservation, dry preservation, freeze-drying, resin, Dawson's method, and plastination.

Human skeleton (2008) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Did you know...?

Vertebrae form the spinal column. During childhood we have 33 vertebrae (7 cervical + 12 thoracic + 5 lumbar + 5 sacral + 4 coccyx), while in adulthood the number decreases as the bones in the sacrum and coccyx begin to fuse.

Lyophilisation (2015) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Freeze-Drying

This is a preservation method carried out using a freeze-dryer. Frozen samples are vacuum-packed and dehydrated, converting frozen water into a gaseous state (sublimation). This process removes water, preventing microorganisms from growing.

Freeze-dried food (2021) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Sachet soups and some fruit and vegetable snacks are sold freeze-dried. This allows them to retain their vitamins and nutrients for longer.

Do you know the plastination? (2013) by Parque de las Ciencias Parque de las Ciencias Andalucía-Granada

Have you heard of plastination?

In the laboratory, organs and living things are preserved using a modern process called plastination. In this process, liquids and soluble fats are extracted using solvents and are then replaced with elastic polymers, such as silicone, polyester resin, or epoxy resin.

About the author

Anne poirier.

Having struggled with my own eating, food, weight and body image challenges, I Founded Shaping Perspectives, A Woman’s Way to Joy and wrote my memoir/self help book the Body Joyful: My Journey from Self-Loathing to Self-Acceptance to share with a new, more compassionate way to think, act and live. (with the help of my pioneering work with Body Neutrality) And newly released book for 8-12 year olds called Not a Fat Annie.

My mission is to support, encourage and inspire women of all sizes, shapes and weights feel more comfortable and confident in their own bodies and selves, so they know their true worth.

Knowing women need a non-judgmental safe space to be heard, seen and understood, I created a private Facebook community called The Body Joyful Revolution.

I am the mother of 2 adult daughters, and live on Hilton Head Island with my husband Tim. I love walks on the beach, capturing sunrises pictures, collecting sand dollars, dancing to 80's music in my driveway, and swinging on a swing.

"Style Isn't One Size Fits All.” Using Kibbe Body Types and Color Analysis to Hone Your Style with Eden Garcia Thaler Astrocandy

  • Spirituality

“Style is not one size fits all, and it’s so worth the journey to figure out your body type and your color palette [to find yours.]” Content creator and podcast host Eden Garcia Thaler joins the show to discuss using Kibbe body types and color analysis to hone your style. Eden is a content creator and the host of “Field Notes From the Spiritual Journey” where she explores shadow work, healing, and navigating the spiritual journey as a highly sensitive being. Eden holds a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Human Spirituality & Well-being and studied spiritual tantra at The Shakti School, including the methodologies of meditation and visualization, techniques for regulating the nervous system, emotional processing and manifestation. In this episode, Eden shares her own style journey, revealing that she’s had an interest in  fashion since she was a young girl thrift shopping with her mom. She explains that you don’t need to be a supermodel or fashionista to wear clothes that compliment your body type and skin tone. Eden talks about ways to figure out your intuitive style before introducing the Kibbe Body Types, which are “image identity” types based on the proportions of someone’s bone structure, body flesh and facial features. She then details the five families of the Kibbe Body Types on the Yin-Yang spectrum (Romantic, Gamine, Classic, Natural and Dramatic), explaining how those components manifest to form your unique body type and the clothing styles that look best on each one. We talk about the recent popularity of color analysis and Eden reveals why you shouldn’t rely on online quizzes for an accurate analysis. Then we hear Eden’s opinion on fashion trends, signs you should pass on them and cost-conscious ways to participate in them. Then she reveals the best places to shop sustainably on your style journey. Best workout app by far

I love this app! I'm out of shape and I often get dizzy when I do any kind of standing exercise so this is perfect for me! It's extremely quick and easy, with options for longer or more strenuous workouts if you want. There are a lot of features you can modify and I'm constantly finding new workouts, stretching techniques and yoga, all sitting or laying down so anyone can do them and get results! I do the day by day chair exercises (less than 10 minutes) the app suggests but usually I do multiple sets. When I've done exercise by myself in the past I haven't seen much results & usually get discouraged and quit, but I love how the app tells you exactly what to do, but gives you options to personalize your workout. I was in a TERRIBLE car accident and was severely injured, so most workouts I've tried have been painful, but this app let's you specify what injuries you've had and modifies your workout plan to help you get results without any pain! INCREDIBLE app!

Suddenly I’m back to 3 minute routines

I picked a chair exercise plan. It is more stretching than anything else. But I thought it would get to be more exercise as the days went by. Today I did the 20th day of my plan for chair exercises. But when I went into the app, it came up as day 1 of a mat exercise plan. I went in and changed back to chair exercises, hoping I’d get back to where I was. In order to move leave this screen, I had to agree to change the days from my old plan (mat exercises, which I never did) to day one of my “new” plan. Nevertheless, the app then took me to day 20 of the the chair exercises plan I have been following. But when I finished, the app set me up for day 2 for tomorrow’s plan and I am back to a 3 minute exercise routine. I don’t feel this app is improving my overall fitness and I wish I could get my money back. The 7 day trial is worthless and doesn’t really let you know how the app works…although after 20 days, I’m not sure how the app works as I didn’t choose mat exercises. Update: From 3 stars to 4. The customer service provided the the staff of this app is excellent. They let me know that an update was due. After the update, I was still at day 2, but by the next day, I was back at day 21. I still have concerns as to whether this app will actually improve my overall fitness. But they are responsive.

I have a chronic medical condition that has greatly reduced and altered my ability to do physical activities. Because I’ve always been physically active, these changes have led to weight gain, depression, hopelessness and feeling lost as I found myself setting goals according to what I used to be physically able to do and not really knowing how to modify things to fit my current abilities. A recipe for that dreaded vicious circle. With this app; NO MORE! For the first time in too long, I have set realistic goals, I have achieved small goals and I feel hopeful about my future. You can too! The free trial allows you to explore the app and there are a variety of pricing plans that are very reasonable; especially compared to other apps out there.
Dear DanneB6870, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with our app. We're truly delighted to hear that it has made a positive impact on your life. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to express your thoughts. We understand the challenges you may be facing, and we're committed to providing a supportive and adaptable platform for users with diverse needs. It warms our hearts to know that you've set realistic goals, achieved them, and are feeling hopeful about the future. If you have any suggestions, concerns, or if there's anything specific you'd like to see improved or added to the app, please don't hesitate to let us know. We're here to support you on your journey, and your success is our success. Thank you again for choosing our app. We look forward to being a continued part of your wellness journey. But in real life, the actor who played Peter Parker's brilliant but non-Avenging best friend Ned Leeds in the Tom Holland -led Spider-Man   films   knows that you've got to put in the work to get to where you need to go.

Though before achieving the  dramatic 100-pound weight loss transformation  he revealed toward the end of 2020, Batalon admittedly wasn't always up for putting in that effort.

"I've learned that I'm definitely able to commit," the 27-year-old told E! News' Francesca Amiker  in an exclusive interview , reflecting on how his mentality changed along with his physique. "That was something that hindered me before with my weight and with work. I feel like it's easy to be on set all day, snack and just pass out in your trailer for a few hours. I've really had to control that side of me and be professional and on point with my health , because health is wealth."

Starring in and executive-producing the Syfy   series Reginald the Vampire , returning for a second season May 8, has also helped him become more disciplined.

Calling the experience "challenging but rewarding," Batalon explained, "You put a lot of responsibility on yourself when you're leading a show. The level of preparedness that I needed to have, I had to learn how to gain that."

Now, he quipped, "I'm this robot that's spouting out a bunch of words in a bunch of minutes."

As in, he's getting used to being The Guy, after audiences got to know him from playing the devoted pal next to The Guy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe .

Playing Ned in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming   was Batalon's first job. Born and raised in Hawaii, the Filipino-American teen was staying with cousins in Connecticut who, more confident than he was, helped him shoot and send in his audition tape.

Batalon thought it would be "another throw-away tape that I've done a million times for a bunch of different people," he recalled. "If it wasn't for their belief I don't think I would have believed in myself enough to want to try."

Holland was mostly unknown before his debut as Peter/Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War , so the costars were in similar boats as far as being in career-launching surroundings. And Batalon considers Holland to be family after spending all that time together, going through the "crazy process" of shooting and promoting three Spider-Men  and two  Avengers  movies over the course of six years.

Now, he's back on the big screen in the horror movie  Tarot— hey, kids, you do not mess with a long-dead vengeful astrologer's cursed tarot deck—and providing comic relief as Paxton, "a stubborn non-believer turned true fanatic."

For the record, Batalon has had a tarot reading in real life, but being "very afraid of the spiritual realm," he's not one to try to knock down any walls between this world and the next.

But he is looking forward to the future, and he wouldn't be as ready to tackle come what may if not for the changes he started making several years ago.

"I was very lucky in the pandemic to have the time and space to work on myself," he said. "I had to put myself in a specific mindset and be stricter and more on a schedule. I think that's helped me not only with my health, but in my life as well. It's put a lot of things in perspective for me."

By the time he showed up to shoot the COVID-delayed  Spider-Man: No Way Home  in October 2020, he had shed 100 pounds .

Batalon credited workouts six days a week with his trainer over FaceTime, a protein-and-veggie-centric meal plan—"the very normal prototypical diet"—and portion control for his eventual transformation.

The exercise portion of the program mapped out by his trainer "was so regimented," Batalon described, explaining how he'd do legs one day, then chest-shoulders-triceps, arms and back, full body, abs, then cardio. And on the seventh day... yes, he'd rest.

"I wish there was a short-cut, honestly," he said, "but it was definitely the consistency that helped me." And before long, working out became "almost like a drug, you can't not do it every day."

Batalon brought his revamped approach to health with him on  Reginald the Vampire , in which he stars as the accidental titular hero who one day is minding his business at The Slushy Shack and the next is among the ranks of the undead.

Spending five months on set with costars including  Em Haine ,  Mandela Van Peebles  and Christin Park  provided another bonding experience for Batalon, albeit one with plenty of biting humor.

"We had a lot of inside jokes," he noted. And for anyone who teases  him , "I'm just saying, if you're going to dish it out, I hope you're ready to take it, because I will also be talking some crazy smack."

Batalon was recently added to the cast of the upcoming thriller  Novocaine  with Jack Quaid . But as for what he'd like to do after that, "I don't have a goal, per se," he said. "I'm just in search of longevity with my career, and my life. I want to do anything that's artistic and creative—and a fun time."

Tarot  is in theaters now. Season two of  Reginald the Vampire premieres May 8 at 10 p.m. on Syfy.

(E! and Syfy are both members of the NBCUniversal family.)

And while we're on this earthly plane, read on to see what more stars have had to say about their weight loss journeys:

Kelly Clarkson

Yep, the talk show host is standing a little taller these days. Informed by doctors she was pre-diabetic , "I dropped weight because I've been listening to my doctor—a couple years I didn't," the singer explained to People . "And 90 percent of the time I'm really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway."

She is a Texas girlie after all, "so I like meat—sorry, vegetarians in the world!"

The mom to River and Remington is also enjoying exploring her new life in NYC . “Walking in the city is quite the workout,” she added. “And I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.”

Oprah Winfrey

You get some health advice! And you get some health advice! Because now that the media legend is feeling better than ever , she's dishing out her best tips. "It's not one thing," she stressed to Entertainment Tonight of her treadmill workouts, hikes, water consumption and nutritious eats, "it's everything ."

While Winfrey hasn't named the weight loss medication she's using, she told People in December,  "The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for," she explained of adding that particular tool to her arsenal. "I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself."

Tarek El Moussa

Living proof that you can, in fact, flip your life, the HGTV personality detailed his two-year fitness journey in a July 2023 Instagram post .

"Sometimes you think you’re doing the right thing but what you actually need is redirection in order to see growth," he wrote. While his previous regimen included the occasional hot yoga class with wife Heather Rae El Moussa , the reality star noted that he wasn't following a particular routine, tracking his protein intake or receiving any sort of guidance.

Enter: nutritionist Sean Torbati . Now, "I’m eating the right food & Hot yoga 1-2 times a week which is so good for my mental & physical state," the dad of three explained. "It all comes down to motivation and perseverance."

For him, "Once I realized how BADLY I wanted to feel good and be healthy—for myself, my wife, my kids, and my longevity—was the second I put my head down and got to work!!"

Whoopi Goldberg

The View cohost revealed she used Mounjaro —a type 2 diabetes medication —to slim down after gaining weight in 2021.

"I weighed almost 300 pounds when I made Till ," she said on the March 19 episode of the daytime talk show. "I had taken all those steroids, I was on all this stuff, and one of the things that's helped me drop the weight is Mounjaro. That's what I use."

Whitney Way Thore

The reality star knows she's fabulous with or without your compliments thank you very much . Responding to speculation that she had undergone a dramatic body transformation, the My Big Fat Fabulous Life star responded in a February Instagram post , "I hate addressing this, but no, I have not had medical intervention to lose weight."

And while she noted she had dropped 100 pounds from her previously 385-pound frame, including 50 after mom Barbara "Babs" Thore 's December 2022 death , "I weigh 285 pounds and I have been this weight for almost a year now."

Bottom line, she continued, "Thank you for the compliments, but I really don't like obsessing over my body and I don't like it when others do it either."

Valerie Bertinelli

Well aware that she's hot in Cleveland, L.A. or wherever else she happens to be, the actress gave her refreshing take on body image with a February Instagram post .

"This is a 150lb body on a 5'4 frame," the Food Network host wrote, sharing a 2014 bikini photo. "I don't weigh myself anymore because this is considered overweight by who's [sic] standards, I don't know. It's stupid and I believed them for far too long."

Fully removed from the pressures of dieting, "I now, finally, know that I am a kind, considerate, funny, thoughtful woman," she continued. "So please remember, who you are and what your character is, should never be overshadowed by what size you are or how much you weigh. You are enough. Just the way you are."

As for anyone that might not agree, she summed up, "F--k ‘em."

Post Malone

Man, the musician feels just like a rockstar since dropping 55 pounds . "I've had a lot of people ask me about my weight loss and i'd suppose, performance on stage," he acknowledged in an April 2023 Instagram post . "i'm having a lot of fun performing, and have never felt healthier."

His inspiration, he continued, was the daughter he welcomed in 2022 : "i guess dad life kicked in and i decided to kick soda, and start eating better so i can be around for a long time for this little angel. next up is smokes and brews, but i like to consider myself a patient man."

Kelly Osbourne

Why, yes, she did feel the pressure to snap back after welcoming son Sidney in November 2022. "It became my mission," she told E! News of dropping 85 pounds in that initial postpartum period. "I was obsessed with it because I didn't even want to get brought into the conversation, I just wanted to be left alone."

Not that she's recommending her strict AF approach. "It was a lot of work," she said. "It was miserable. I was hungry all the time, but I'm really happy with the results."

John Goodman

The Roseanne alum has hit a lot of highs and lows throughout his health journey. "In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits," he explained in 2017. "This time I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I'm getting to the age where I can't afford to sit still anymore."

His sensible approach—lots of walking and a Mediterranean diet heavy on fish, vegetables and nuts—has helped him maintain a 200-pound weight loss . "It's a life of rehab," he admitted to Men's Health . "But it's a labor of love."

After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and losing both his dad and brother to heart attacks, The Price Is Right host decided to take a spin at healthier eating.

“No carbs,” he told Entertainment Tonight of his winning formula that also included a lot of daily cardio. “I have cheated a couple times, but basically no carbs, not even a cracker. No bread at all. No pizza, nothing. No corn, no beans, no starches of any kind. Egg whites in the morning or like, Greek yogurt, cut some fruit.”

And to wash it all down, “I don’t drink anything but water,” he said. “No coffee, no tea, no soda.”

Tammy Slaton

A huge loss has led to some pretty big gains for the 1000-lb Sisters star . Since shedding a remarkable 440 pounds, she's celebrated a series of milestones, documented on her TLC show: Flying for the first time , being able to buckle her seatbelt on a plane and ride in the front seat of a car , inside a hot air balloon and on rides at Disney World.

"Some people take small things for granted," Slaton explained in a February TikTok . "Like being able to buckle a seatbelt and not have to use an extender. It's big for me. Because I hadn't been able to do that stuff in years."

Now, continued the reality star, "I'm more or less like giving myself a pat on the back for achieving something and doing it. Getting the weight off and living. That's what I'm doing. I can finally say I'm living life."

Brittany Cartwright

Raise your glasses high to this healthy take from the Vanderpump Rules alum. While the Jenny Craig brand ambassador is hoping to see some results now that she's recommitted to the meal plan, "I'm also just trying to maintain and be the best version of myself for my son," she explained to E! News in February. Because while she "would definitely love to lose some weight," it's more important to model healthy habits for her and Jax Taylor 's son Cruz .

"I just think it's important to show him a healthy routine," said the future star of The Valley . "Working out is so important to me and for my mental health. I just think that being involved in a good healthy journey is super important for me."

Megan Thee Stallion

All that work on her body-ody-ody-ody-ody has paid off for the musician who has dedicated herself to going hard  on strength training.

"I'm really proud of my journey," the star told People in 2023. "Fitness has become a part of my lifestyle. I've been disciplined and committed to working out on a regular basis and investing in my health."

And with all the work she's been putting in, she continued, “I might have to drop a Hottie Bootcamp sometime soon." A little sample: A heart-pounding mix of deadlifts, jump-roping, forward lunges and mountain climbers. "This s--t burn like a motherf--ker," she said in one video . "But I know you see them thighs popping."

Shay Mitchell

When the world shut down in March 2020, mere months after the Pretty Little Liars alum gave birth to her first daughter Atlas , "I felt the least motivated I ever have," she shared with E! News . "Everything had kind of come to a halt and so truly I just thought, well, eff it."

Workout plans were tossed out the window along with her long-held "everything in moderation" way of eating. Having slid from the first few months of postpartum into the free-for-all that was 2020 "eating 100 percent s---ty food" had taken a toll and she missed feeling good about her body.

Approached with the idea of signing on for Openfit's 4 Weeks of Focus with trainer  Kelsey Heenan , she was pumped but skeptical.

After four straight weeks kicking off her mornings with lemon-infused warm water and a 30-minute sweat session ("It included HIIT, it included cardio, it included strength training," she said of the varied full-body routines) and recommitting to healthy meal choices ("If I want pizza, I'll have pizza and dump some spinach on it") she was a convert. "I was like, 'Hoooooly...' you know," she admitted. "I've been active my entire life. I have never lifted a 40-pound weight, lifted a 50-pound."

Though the fitness influencer does a fair amount of sweating, it's never about the small stuff. The social media star—also known as Fat Girl Fed Up online—revealed in a December Instagram that she didn't quite hit her goal of getting under 200 pounds. But she still felt like celebrating .

"I have to keep reminding myself progress is progress, no matter how small," she noted. "I just know I worked really hard this week. But it's OK, because I didn't gain all that weight overnight, I'm not gonna lose it overnight either. So keep going, no matter what."

Because she knows all of her health goals are within reach. "I will get to wonderland," she said. "Whether it's next week or next year, we're gonna get there, eventually. Keep going, believe in yourself, progress not perfection."

Jonathan Van Ness

Wanting to get stronger so they could tumble into a more intense gymnastics routine, the Queer Eye star truly stuck the landing when it came to their health journey.

"I got a nutritionist back in April. I've lost 35 lbs," they shared in an August 2022 TikTok, showing off their body transformation. "Here's the thing, I wanted to change my body size because of my gymnastics and my career."

However, they cautioned, don't assume you're going to nail that metaphorical aerial on your first try. "It took three weeks before I saw any change," the Love That Story author admitted. "So, if you're wanting to make a change, literally three weeks of working out and eating differently before I saw any change."

Dylan Sprouse

Before turning 30 in 2022, the Disney Channel alum made the choice to dive into a new training regimen.

"Used to wear a shirt in the pool as a kid so I decided in my late twenties I wanted to change my body and become a meat head," the actor, wed to model Barbara Palvin , captioned an Instagram post that April . "This is my meat head post."

Between hitting the weights and the kettlebells, it was "a long slog," he continued, "but I'm proud of the progress I've made and I ain't done yet."

Rebel Wilson

Sometimes you're hitting every high note, sometimes you're admitting life isn't always pitch perfect. Such was the case when the actress revealed in a candid January 2024 Instagram post that she'd regained 30 pounds after hitting her 75-kilogram goal weight in 2020.

With filming committments making it harder to keep up with her grueling boxing and hiking workouts, "I’ve lost focus on my healthy lifestyle," said Wilson, who's spoken about the work she'd put in to ditch her emotional eating habits and trade a carb-heavy diet for more protein.

The extra stress leading to extra pounds, "It makes me feel bad about myself," Wilson admitted, "it shouldn’t…but it does."

Chris Pratt

Saying buh-bye to his favorite beers? Fine. Committing to “three to four hours a day of just consistent, ass-kicking hard work," as he described his P90X, kickboxing and running sessions to Men's Journal ? Sure.

But for Pratt, the toughest part of his 60-pound transformation from Parks and Recreation 's Andy Dwyer to Guardians of the Galaxy superhero was all the water—drinking an ounce a day for every pound he weighed.

“I was peeing all day long, every day," he explained. "That part was a nightmare,”

Though he was already "kind of a Baldwin" as Cher Horowitz would note, the Clueless alum understood why fans were shocked to hear he would be crawling into Ant-Man's suit as the the Marvel's latest hero.

“When people heard that I was cast in this movie, I think most people’s reactions were ‘Huh? Paul Rudd as a superhero? Really?'” Rudd admitted to Variety in 2015.

So he knew what he had to do. The ageless star "took the Chris Pratt approach to training for an action movie," he shared. "Eliminate anything fun for a year and then you can play a hero.”

Jessie James Decker

The Just Eat author has turned to her tried-and-true South Beach diet to feel more herself after the births of her older children. "I saw results instantly," she told E! News of the protein-heavy plan. "I got on the program and I worked out and it was just like, okay."

But first she soaks up every second of the postpartum period. "I always tell mothers, like, that should be the last thing on your mind," stressed Decker, mom to Vivianne , Eric Jr. , Forrest and February 2024 arrival Denver . "After you have a baby, please do not think about trying to lose weight. Just feed your baby. Love on your baby. You have a newborn. Your body is trying to heal. You will know when your body is ready. Don't listen to your brain telling you, 'Lose weight, lose weight.' You'll know when you physically feel like, 'Okay, I feel like I'm ready to kind of have that energy and can run around.'"

Nolan Gould

Sure, the six-pack has been a nice benefit of the Modern Family alum's 90-minute training sessions and healthier diet ("What I get is actually really healthy food for you: Lean protein, eating as many vegetables as you want and staying away from things like soda," he described to People ).

But completing an ambitious bucket list is really what drives him. "A lot of my life goals outside of acting have to do with the outdoors—I know I want to climb big rock walls in Yosemite, and so, I want to get fit for that," he explained. "One of my big life goals is to do the Pacific Crest Trail, which is up the coast of America, Mexico to Canada and back."

Ashley Greene

Following the September 2022 birth of daughter Kingsley , the Twilight alum sunk her teeth into a hard truth: "I don't think my body will ever be quite 'the same,'" she shared in a January 2023 Instagram post , "and I'm learning to be ok with that."

And should she find herself struggling, she's picked up a strategy every bit as important as the workout routine she recommitted herself to postpartum.

"I go and pick up my child," she told E! News of her "sweet angel" daughter. Staring into Kingsley's eyes "allows you to be grateful versus kind of nitpicking yourself," she explained of her strategy. "And so that is one of my hacks that I do because no matter what you put out there, it's hard not to be self-critical."
