95 most inspirational travel quotes ever penned

Our favourite inspirational travel quotes have encouraged us to travel with abandon over the years. Perhaps they will do the same for you…

For us, there is no such thing as luxury travel; travel is, by default, a luxury. It is a privilege provided by the country of our birth, a privilege that many are not as fortunate to enjoy.

Sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves at just how ridiculous our lives have become: an ex-teacher and jobbing writer travelling the world for a living. It is absurd, it is astonishing, it is luxury.

When I first went travelling at 21 years old, my father gave me this quote scrawled on a piece of card.

inspirational travel quotes

It infused me with wanderlust. It encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, make the most of my time, see the world and enjoy the freedom that comes with being on the road. It remains one of the most inspirational travel quotes I’ve read (even if Twain did not actually say it).

Today, 20 years and almost 100 countries later, it’s still in my wallet. Despite its tattered and dishevelled appearance, it’s every bit as important to me now as it was then.

With that in mind, we’ve collated our most beloved inspirational travel quotes to encourage readers to “explore, dream and discover” for themselves.

50 Inspirational Travel Quotes to Ignite the Wanderlust in You

As a child gazing at a world map, I would daydream about exploring every exotic shore on the horizon. However, embarking on my first transatlantic journey revealed how challenging travel can also be. From navigating unforeseen obstacles to trying new foods, each foray away from home transforms us.

Travel expands perspectives, unravels preconceived notions, and illuminates the rich tapestry of global cultures. These inspirational travel quotes capture the allure of discovering new places, overcoming adversity, and the personal growth inspired by our journeys. May the words ignite your own wanderlust spirit and send you voyaging to far-flung realms!

Key Takeaways:

The call of distant shores: travel quotes about new destinations, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – lao tzu.

The Chinese philosopher highlights how even vast undertakings like world travel start small, with courage and intention. His wisdom inspired me to take my first solo trip to Asia . Though daunting, those initial steps created a path to the most rewarding experience of my life.

“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Gustave Flaubert

After hiking through jaw-dropping Yosemite Valley , I understood what Flaubert meant. Surrounded by towering granite cliffs and sequoia trees, I felt small yet connected to the grandeur of nature. Travel humbles and exhilarates us.

The ancient writer cautions that travel alone does not guarantee growth. We must approach our journeys with open minds, curiosity to learn, and critical thinking. Travel reveals our true natures.

“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like the people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain

Twain’s humor gets at a truth – sharing transport and living quarters reveals a travel companion’s character. Challenging situations will expose their integrity, patience, and problem-solving. Choose wisely for smooth journeys.

Embracing the Path Less Trodden: Quotes on Travel and Adventure

No description or photo can ever match being enveloped by the damp heat of the Borneo jungle or deafened by the volcanic eruption in Tonga I witnessed. Some moments must be lived firsthand – so get out there!

While trying new foods could cause belly issues and hiking the Inca Trail knee aches, staying within our comfort zones can actually shrink our worlds. When we stop challenging ourselves, we stop living and learning.

“There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep rolling under the stars.” – Jack Kerouac

This line from On the Road captures the restless spirit of adventure – to throw caution to the wind and risk it all for the freedom of the open road, come what may. It’s a siren call that tugs at every true wanderer’s soul.

Inspirational Quotes That Prove Travel is Transformative

Inspirational quotes are meaningful in different ways for everyone. Some people may turn to quotes for inspiration to overcome an obstacle set before them while others seek reminders of how they’ve persevered. Others turn to quotes that perfectly describe their feelings for their sweetheart or humanity as a whole.

Like many others worldwide, I turn to inspirational quotes to lift my spirits when I feel discouraged. They remind me that I’m not alone and that people all over the world experience setbacks and negative emotions.

The   quotes at the top of my favorites list are those that affirm my belief that travel can be transformative, especially for people battling mental health issues such as depression or anxiety.

I suffered depression and anxiety for years, but once I started traveling more, something changed in me. With each trip I took, my mental health improved, and my perception of the world and how I see myself in it shifted. I knew it wasn’t going ever to change back.

Because of this transformation, I travel differently than I ever have before. I went abroad for the first time in a decade  and traveled solo to New Zealand for three months . I often turn to the following nine quotes to help remind me of the changes I’ve gone through and for inspiration to continue pushing myself to grow.

1. “Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.” – Seneca

I love quotes! ♥ Especially travel quotes! These I have never heard before but I found my favorite one: “A person is but the product of their thoughts. What they think, they become.”

I’m glad you like these ones. They mean a lot to me.

Hi Brittany! Kia Ora from NZ! Girl I agree with you travel is so good for mental health. It gives you a challenge, something to look forward to and a new perspective. I was so anxious an depressed before I came to NZ but now that I’m here I am a new woman. Travel can’t solve or stop our problems but it can help us learn new ways of coping and overcoming. Hope you are well girl. Hugs from NZ!

I’m thrilled that you’re having such a great time! <3

Little Boy With Heart Condition Sworn In As Police Officer

Expecting mothers can't help but have secret expectations for their future little one. It's only human. You have this little soul inside you, kicking and growing until they are ready to come into the world. Pregnancy is filled with emotions! You picture their life. You wonder what they will look like and who they will be.

Then, there's the morning sickness, the soreness, the weight gain and the dreaded pain of birth. But in the end it's all worth it, to meet your tiny person. Finally you meet them, you hold them for the first time, their little body resting on your chest.

Now imagine your newborn being ripped from your arms and rushed into an emergency procedure. Now imagine that exact feeling 58 more times, and you can begin to understand the heartbreaking reality of one mother and her 6-year-old son, Keyjuan Andrew.

This 6-Year-Old Boy Has Spent Half His Life In Hospitals

Since his birth, Keyjuan Andrew, 6, has spent much of his young life within the sterile walls of hospitals. As a baby, his first moments were spent under the glare of operating lights, while his mother, Jessica Krentowski and family waited with bated breath.

Growing up with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome has meant enduring numerous medical procedures — 58 to be exact — and a total of 15 surgeries. It's a journey that most adults would find grueling, but Keyjuan has faced each step with courage and resilience.

Despite these challenges, Keyjuan has miraculously kept his childlike sense of wonder. He has become a familiar face among the doctors and nurses who have cared for him, often bringing smiles with his bright energy. He has made friends with other young patients, sharing his stories and uplifting those around him. Though much of his life has been spent in hospitals, he hasn't let it diminish his joy for life.

On Patrol with Officer Keyjuan For A Day

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" is a question nearly every kid has an answer to. Common responses are firefighter, ballerina, president, and, of course, police officer. For Keyjuan Andrew, becoming a police officer was his ultimate dream, and thanks to the Lynwood Police Department, that dream came true.

In a special ceremony, Keyjuan was officially sworn in as an honorary officer, a moment he had long anticipated. The ceremony was filled with applause and admiration as Keyjuan stood proudly in his new uniform. As part of his day as an honorary officer, he was given the chance to go on patrol with Lynwood Police Chief Gregory Thomas.

With his badge pinned to his chest and a smile on his face, Keyjuan rode along in the police car, his eyes wide with excitement. The officers treated him like one of their own, explaining their work and sharing the values of their profession. It was an unforgettable experience that left Keyjuan beaming and inspired their entire community.

Redefining expectations and embracing hope.

When expecting parents discuss the future, they often say that their hopes for their baby are simple: "Boy, girl, it doesn't matter, as long as the baby is healthy." These words reflect the profound truth that good health is the foundation upon which all other dreams are built. But what happens when those dreams are challenged by a diagnosis that changes everything?

Keyjuan Andrew's story serves as a poignant reminder that the path to parenthood — and to a fulfilling life — isn't always straightforward. Despite facing a condition that brought countless medical procedures and surgeries, Keyjuan and his family have found strength in the moments of joy and courage in the face of uncertainty. They have shown that while health is a crucial part of the journey, it isn't the only source of dreams.

Through the loving support of family and community, Keyjuan has accomplished remarkable things that go far beyond a simple definition of health. His induction as an honorary police officer wasn't just a ceremony — it was a testament to his resilience, a celebration of a young boy's spirit, and a symbol of hope for everyone around him.

Keyjuan's story inspires us to broaden our expectations and embrace the unexpected. He has proven that even in the face of overwhelming medical challenges, life can be filled with purpose, laughter, and hope. His journey reminds us that while we may start with certain expectations, the real magic happens when we find joy in the most unexpected places. The measure of a child's life isn't just their health; it's the courage, love, and hope they bring to the world.

A Lasting, Passionate Relationship Isn't Just For Starry-Eyed Romantics—It's For Skeptics Too!

According to award-winning psychotherapist and TV host Dr. Jenn Mann, the #1 reason relationships don't make it past the 1-year mark is because as soon as our relationship doesn't go according to plan, tensions can get so high, the whole relationship crumbles.

"It is easy to get along in the honeymoon phase of a relationship. During the early stages, when we are falling in love, all we see is how alike we are and how wonderful our new partner is. We see our commonalities, not our differences. “You like pizza. I like pizza! We are so alike! We are perfect for each other!” We are merged. We feel like one person, a unit, a “we.” The first time we see our differences, it may feel like a huge betrayal (“What do you mean you voted for him?”), because it marks the moment when we are thrown back into the reality of being two separate people with different thoughts and beliefs." So what about all the people who make it past the honeymoon phase? The "1 year mark"? Does that mean they have it all figured out? Jenn Mann , Instyle

What Are Relationship Goals? Why Are They Important?

travel mental health quotes

Relationship goals are more than just whimsical fantasies or Instagram-worthy snapshots; they are the guiding principles that steer a couple toward a fulfilling and harmonious partnership. At their core, relationship goals encompass the shared visions, aspirations, and milestones that both partners aim to achieve together. These goals provide a roadmap for growth, fostering communication, understanding, and mutual respect along the way.

Most importantly, they serve as your relationship-sonar in times of turbulence so you and your co-pilot can navigate the storm together. From building trust and deepening intimacy to navigating challenges as a united front, setting relationship goals cultivates a sense of purpose and commitment that strengthens the bond between partners.

In essence, relationship goals aren't just important—they are the foundation upon which enduring love is built.

How to Get Clear on Your Love Goals

Whether you're in a happily committed relationship, enjoying the thrill of new love, or searching for a partner, setting relationship goals is within everyone's reach. But before we dive into pursuing the love we desire, it's important to have a clear idea of what that love actually looks like.

Some Questions To Ask Yourself

  • What does my ideal, healthy relationships look like?
  • What romantic relationships do I idealize?
  • How would my partner and I stay on the same page or resolve conflict?
  • How do I prefer to receive love from my partner?
  • How would my partner and I best communicate in everyday life?

When it comes to setting relationship goals, it's not one-size-fits-all. Getting a clear picture of what a healthy relationship looks like for you may be vastly different than what it looks like for a friend or a family member.

Don't be afraid to compare notes but try and stay away from comparing goals.

The 8 Most Important Couple Goals To Set And When

NEW YORK, NY - MAY 05: Actors Blake Lively (L) and Ryan Reynolds attend the "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, 2014 in New York City.

First and foremost, relationship goals should be something both you and your partner set together. Setting one-sided couple goals probably isn't the best idea and will likely lead to disappointment. You have to start somewhere—and the best place to start is on the same page.

"When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule not to work at the same time so that we could always prioritize our personal life. That takes working really hard when we're not. Just like financial planning and sustaining that - it takes balance." Blake Lively, Further Ado Podcast

If you're drawing a blank on what an appropriate relationship goal looks like, here are the 8 most important things to know when it comes to making your relationship work.

#1. Understand Each Other's " Love Language "

Counselor, Gary Chapman coined the widely popular theory of the "Five Love Languages". In his work, Chapman found that couples often had difficulty feeling and expressing love (despite their partner's best efforts). So he broke down the themes from these discussions into what's known as the five love languages:

  • Physical touch
  • Quality time
  • Acts of service
  • Words of affirmation.

Chances are, you and your partner don't have the same love language. The chances are even higher that you show your partner love the way you want to receive love. It's a bit of a trap. The problem probably looks a little something like this :

  • After a long work week, you spend hours cooking your partner their all-time favorite meal (acts of service)—the least they could do is wash the dishes (acts of service).
  • Instead, the dishes pile up in the sink while they run over to the TV and put on your favorite movie for a Netflix and cuddle sesh (Quality Time, Physical Touch).
  • Even though their heart's in the right place, you can't enjoy the movie because you're too busy thinking if they really "loved" you...that casserole dish wouldn't be soaking in the sink.

It easy to see why identifying you and your partner's love language is a quick way to get crossed wires, uncrossed. Good news is, "quality time" is one of the most common love languages and it here's a simple hack to get it right.

#2. Commit To A Weekly Date Night — "Don't Stop The Romance"

If there's one thing Suzanne Somers and Alan Hamel knew how to get right—it was romance.

After 55 years together, Somers heartbreakingly passed away in 2023 and fans were overwhelmed by Hamel's masterful letter he wrote to Somers in her final days. He found a way to pack 55 years of love into one last, beautiful, tearjerking punch.

But even though the love of his life would leave him too soon—Hamel and Somers lived with no regrets. They made every moment on earth together count. In rain or shine—dressed up or dressed down—the soulmates famously shared the secret to their marriage:

"Listen to one another, give each other a lot of attention, keep it exciting, date. My marriage is very romantic. … We might sit here and have a tequila. … We dance, I cook, we sit out and watch the moonlight on the ocean." Suzanne Somers

They also reportedly had sex twice a day—but who's counting!

#3. Maintain The Physical Connection

While we may not all have the libido of ThighMaster influencer Suzanne Somers we don't have to! When it comes to setting relationship goals around intimacy don't underestimate the significance of physical touch.

Incorporating consistent physical connection into your relationship offers numerous benefits. Simple gestures like hand-holding, hugs, or a reassuring pat on the shoulder can trigger the release of oxytocin, the "feel-good hormone," while also reducing cortisol levels, the body's stress hormone.

While physical intimacy is undeniably important, it's crucial to understand that it's just one facet of intimacy in a relationship. Intellectual, spiritual, and emotional connections are equally vital. Creating a safe and comfortable environment where both partners understand each other's preferences and boundaries enhances the pleasure derived from physical touch.

However, it's essential to approach physical intimacy with sensitivity and awareness. Attempting to force physical closeness or using it as a substitute for deeper emotional connection can backfire. Achieving a healthy balance in physical touch requires open communication, mutual understanding of body language, and respect for each other's boundaries.

Remember, physical connection encompasses more than just sexual intimacy. From a warm hug in the morning to a sweet kiss goodnight, there are countless ways to express affection and strengthen the bond with your partner.

You don't need to be an expert in massage therapy to reap the benefits of physical touch—simple gestures can go a long way in nurturing intimacy and emotional well-being. So, prioritize physical connections and make them an integral part of your relationship journey.

However, try not to get the purpose of the "love languages" confused. Showing your partner "love" is so important but it's not a substitute for the sometimes hard conversations.

#4. Improve Your Communication

See on Instagram

When it comes to love communication really is key—and miscommunications are one of the first things that can tear a couple apart.

As you’re building your list of goals, an important thing to think about is the way you and your partner communicate. It's easy to make the assumption that our partner knows exactly how we feel–—but assumptions can be deadly to a relationship. No matter how long the two of you have been together, your partner can never know what you truly feel unless you tell them. So prioritize communication.

"If I was going to have an equal voice with this very opinionated man, I had to get myself up." - Michelle Obama, "Becoming"

Understanding how your partner feels and why they think this way is critical to a healthy romantic partnership. Different backgrounds, upbringings and experiences can sometimes make it difficult to see things from our partner's perspective. Make it part of your relationship goals to better understand one another.

If communication is a couple goal you both want to prioritize but have trouble with, seeking the help of a licensed therapist to act as an unbiased evaluator can be a great tool to utilize.

Just ask Barack Obama and Michelle Obama! After 30 years together, the former President and First Lady have openly credited therapy as a huge help in making sure they are always on the same page!

#5. Discuss Your Shared Values And Prepare For Values To Change AS You Grow

TOPSHOT - US actor Ben Affleck kisses US actress and singer Jennifer Lopez as they arrive for the screening of the film "The Last Duel" presented out of competition on September 10, 2021 during the 78th Venice Film Festival at Venice Lido.

One of the biggest miscommunications a couple can have is thinking they have the same values—only to find out, in big relationship-defining moments they couldn't be more wrong. A relationship-defining moment could be when a couple is deciding how they want to raise their children or whether or not they want to get married. This discovery can be devastating. The million-dollar question is, how do you avoid it?

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are great examples of a Hollywood "it" couple who had miscommunications and learned from it. "Bennifer" didn't make it the first time around—and the exes went on to raise their children in very different ways—with Lopez opting for a more lavish Miami lifestyle and Affleck keeping it low-key in LA. So what changed? What made this couple reunite years later?

Did the stars align? Or did they just get clear on their shared values?

Though the two went their separate ways in 2004, 17 years later they resurrected one of Hollywood’s favorite romances. After being spotted on multiple loved-up outings and at red-carpet appearances together, they were finally married in 2023. But before they tied the knot the couple made it a priority to talk about what mattered and how this time was going to be different.

In an exclusive sit down with VOGUE, Lopez shared how the second time around was even better than the first. They had years to mature and become full-formed individuals. When they reunited they were no longer "two halves" struggling to make a whole. They were two whole people coming together who put their shared family values first, instead of their careers.

He’s a wonderful, wonderful father and father figure to them as well, ’cause he has his own three beautiful children and then there’s us. He’s fantastic. He really steps up to the challenge of what [being a stepfather] is and what that means, and they love him." Jennifer Lopez, VOGUE (2023)

Lopez and Affleck's story is a revealing reminder of the significance of aligning with a partner who shares your values, particularly when envisioning a future together. While initial discussions about important topics such as living arrangements, family planning, and career aspirations may lay the foundation for a strong connection, it's crucial to recognize that values can evolve over time.

Continual communication about evolving priorities and aspirations is essential for maintaining harmony and alignment within the relationship. Whether it's a shift in living preferences or a newfound desire to establish roots in a specific location, addressing these changes openly and honestly fosters understanding and prevents potential conflicts down the road.

If identifying your and your partner's values may feel too broad, here are the 7 most important "core values " according to psychotherapist and celebrity relationship guru, Esther Perel.

  • Communication : Keeping open lines of communication with your partner can set you up to have a successful relationship. The busyness of life can make it challenging for couples to keep one another informed. However, maintaining a clear back-and-forth of information is the only way to ensure the relationship will be sustainable.
  • Equality : Seeing each other as equals fosters mutual respect. This can create a deeper emotional connection and create greater intimacy between you and your partner.
  • Honesty : Honesty and trust go hand in hand. Being honest with your loved one allows you to build a healthy relationship. Without honesty, the foundation of the relationship can falter and lead to heartbreak.
  • Intimacy : Take time for physical and emotional intimacy. You should not ignore a healthy sex life, frequent displays of affection, and date nights.
  • Shared beliefs : Religious beliefs can play a significant part in a person’s life. Though religious differences do not always signal a deal-breaker, having shared beliefs can make navigating through life together, especially if parenting, easier.
  • Trust : Every good relationship needs a foundation of trust. Relationship experts claim trust is the most important value of every successful relationship. Without trust, romantic relationships quickly deteriorate.
  • Validation : Emotional validation is the process of making your partner feel understood. Ensure you acknowledge their points of view and emotions. Emotional validation provides mental health benefits and is a healthy way to care for your partner's well-being.

While it's highly unlikely you and your partner will share all values, you and your partner must have at least 3-5 of these values in common.

#6. Support One Another—No Matter What"Always supporting me (literally)"

The #1 most important shared values a couple needs to have, is family values. David Beckham and Victoria Beckham may just be the best example when it comes to demonstrating how powerful supporting your partner can be (literally)! After all, you're not just building a life together...you're building your forever family.

Even though celebs are stars in their own right—over 25 years together have proven the power couple are partners in work and in life. The couple share four children: Brooklyn , 24, Romeo , 21, Cruz , 19, and Harper Seven , 11.

In their widely successful Netflix doc, Beckham , The Beckhams unpack years of their life together. The ups (winning a World Cup), the downs (the cheating scandal that nearly broke them), and everything in between!

The power couple may lead crazy busy lives but it's never stopped them from making sure family comes first.

"Running a business [and] most importantly, being a mum, wouldn't be possible without David. Not only is he the most incredible father, but he's supportive and someone who loves and inspires me every single day." Victoria Beckham, Glamour Women of the Year Award.

The bottom line is—if you're putting them before you and they are putting you before them, you have the best chance for success. But supporting your partner can look different depending on the situation. It's not about blindly agreeing to everything they say. Sometimes it looks like challenging their beliefs to help them grow

#7. Fight Fair—Be A "Master Negotiator"

Disagreements in relationships are inevitable. How delicately a couple navigates conflicts can make or break a relationship. So that's why if you're going to fight, fight fair. Or in other words: compromise!

"I think everybody needs to be a negotiator. Everybody needs to have patience and know when to take a walk." James Brolin, PEOPLE

After 25 years of marriage to the legendary diva Barbra Streisand, it should go without saying that Brolin knows a thing or two about conflict resolution. His advice couldn't be more spot on.

RELATED: Barbra Streisand and James Brolin’s Advice for a Successful Marriage Is Seriously Simple

Research suggests that "happy couples" avoid criticism, steer clear of extreme language, and prevent arguments from escalating through joint problem-solving.

If you know your partner shuts down when things get heated, don't push their boundaries and force them to give you answers. Step back. Give them space to think. Or in James Brolin's words let them "take a walk."

Fighting fair can look like this:

  • Knowing how your partner's conflict resolution style may differ from your own
  • Respecting your partner's boundaries
  • Making your needs known

If this all sounds like a lot—one simple trick to remember when you're in a heated debate with your partner is to avoid starting a sentence with "you always..." or "you never..."!

Do they always leave the toilet seat up? They never take out the garbage?

Probably not. But the truth is, remembering this when we're "seeing red" can feel impossible. In the middle of a fight—the #1 most important thing to remember is this—what outcome do we really want after passions cool and the fight is over?

Do we want to hurt or do we want to heal?

#8. Manage Your Emotions—Don't Forget You Want The Same Outcome!

9th November 1999: Married American actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick smiling while standing in front of a handheld 'Access Hollywood' microphone at the For All Kids Foundation's Second Annual White Rose Awards Gala at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, New York City.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that effective communication is critical for a healthy relationship, but just because this goal is simple—doesn't mean it's easy.

When we have a problem with our partner it can be tempting to "outsource" for advice. We may call our mom or a best friend. We swear we're "just venting," but a lot of the time what we are looking for is advice.

That's not always a bad thing! But it can be a slippery slope (especially when you're not dealing with a licensed professional).

We can be quick to tell everyone what our problem with our partner is...except our partner!

That's why after over 30 years of marriage to Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker's best piece of advice is to "keep things just between the two of you".

RELATED: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s Advice to a Lasting Marriage Is One Very Simple ‘Secret’

Asking outside opinions can distract us from dealing with the real problem. We can't expect someone to change if they don't know what is going on with us, right?

If Your Partner Calls You The More "Emotional" One...

If your partner calls you the more "emotional" one, when problems arise, you're probably pretty reactive. Chances are you read into every little action and behavior—when they seem "distant" you take it personally.

The "emotional one" is the person pacing in the living room, interrogating their partner who sits silently on the couch cross-armed. It's confusing. The more you try to "communicate"—the more they shut down.

But remember facts are not feelings! Sometimes when you think you're communicating—you're not. You may phrase your insecurities like a question—but really you're making a statement.

For Example: In a tense car ride after leaving your mother-in-law's house you may ask your partner, "Why do you never stand up for me?" Even though it's phrased like a question it's not. You're telling them they never stand up for you. It makes sense they may get defensive or shut down completely.

That's not a conversation. That's a confrontation.

If you're a volcanic eruption of emotions all your partner is going to want to do is step on rocks to dodge the hot lava!

Conflict Resolution Tip: For The "Emotional Ones"

Try taking a beat and not being so reactive. Breathe and ask yourself if the big emotions you're experiencing are rooted in reality. Then sit with it for a few days.

If you're still feeling you have something you need to say, then say it!

Your partner may get defensive but trust they will come around—because they want your relationship to work too. Don't jump on every little word they say. Wait it out. Actively listen instead of waiting for what you want to hear.

Don't take their pace personally. Just because you may want to "fix" the problem right away, doesn't mean it's always the right answer.

If Your Partner Calls You The More "Emotionally Unavailable" One...

For the "emotionally unavailable" ones, communicating looks completely different.

Unlike their partners, the "emotionally unavailable" ones tend to suppress and detach from their relationship conflicts. This can lead to big miscommunications that eventually push their partner away in the long run—which isn't what they want!

If the "Emotional" partner seems to care too much— the "emotionally unavailable" partner doesn't seem to care at all. However no matter how convincing their act may be, this isn't the truth.

The emotionally unavailable partner wants to be seen and heard too. They just don't know how to process their feelings at the same rate! The "emotional" partner has a tendency to take over the conversation and leave little room for the "emotionally unavailable" partner to process their feelings and say their piece.

So instead, they shut down. But what these personality types don't understand is their partner wants to hear how they feel. They just have a hard time asking instead of guessing.

RELATED: HOW YOUR ATTACHMENT STYLE AFFECTS YOUR RELATIONSHIP

Once you can identify why this caused you to feel a certain way, try and get into these habits:

  • Talk to loved ones about what they’re feeling
  • Write down what you think and feel
  • Try meditation or therapy
  • Exercise to relieve stress and increase endorphins
  • Practice being aware of their thoughts when they’re emotional
  • Remove themselves from an emotional situation if it is becoming uncontrollable

Don't be afraid to discuss these goals with your partner. It's about progress not perfection. They just want reassurance that you care. Don't be afraid to ask for them to work on their emotional regulation too.

These sorts of goals are often best met when both parties are working together, and often key components of a more lasting love.

If nothing else remember: it's not a confrontation, it's a conversation!

How to set goals: a normal and healthy part of a relationship.

You understand why it's essential to set goals in a healthy and thriving relationship and have a few couple goals in mind that you'd like to discuss with your partner. Now it's time to sit down and have a conversation. Here are a few tips for setting relationship goals with your significant other.

  • Choose a neutral space to discuss relationship goals
  • Determine the length of time for each relationship goal
  • Set check-in dates for each relationship goal
  • Include at least one fun relationship goal
  • Make sure your relationship goals are measurable
  • Evaluate how your love goals make you feel
  • Make sure your couple goals are equally weighted

Don't just set and forget your goals. Consistency is key. Achieving goals requires ongoing work from both you and your partner.

It Works If You Work It—Because You're Worth It!

Setting relationship goals takes time and effort – but the payoff is worth it. Even if you decide to start small, setting couple goals will undoubtedly yield a stronger relationship.

However it's important to remember while there is no shame in working on your relationship don't mistake setting goals with trying to change your partner. Sadly, sometimes when a relationship has soured it's a case of not-meant-to-be that all the self-help books in the world can't fix.

However, if you're merely ironing out the wrinkles with the right person and you both share aligned love goals, you'll have a clear pathway for achieving them and a means of assessing your relationship goals as you move forward. It's important to keep in mind that working towards relationship goals should be a positive endeavor – something that feels rewarding and enjoyable.

"Every woman in her late 20s goes through a period where she just doesn't believe love is out there anymore, but it is. And I think the minute you stop looking for it is when it comes for you." Kristen Bell

With the right tools, effort and mindset, you can use relationship goals to build the future you want with your partner.

7 ways travel can benefit your mental health

The benefits of travel go beyond making memories and meeting new people. Getting out of your comfort zone and exploring a new place can have a remarkably positive impact on your emotional wellbeing.

Even in these times when traveling far distances can feel uncertain, changing up your daily routine at a nearby town or locale on a weekend day can help to change your mindset and help to ease the stress of the daily grind.

Here are seven ways travel can be good for your mental health.

A female hiker walking on rocky ground near Salto Grande Waterfall in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile. In the background numerous snowy mountains are visible.

1. It can help you stay fit and healthy

Physical exercise is known to improve mental wellbeing, and travel offers ample opportunity to get active. Whether you enjoy pounding the pavement on a city break, swimming in the sea or summiting mountain peaks , getting to know a new destination by embracing the great outdoors can boost energy levels and improve your mood.

Immersing yourself in and connecting with nature is another key way to reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression – and while you can do this anywhere (even in cities), it makes sense to incorporate a little ecotherapy into your travels too.

2. It shakes up the status quo

Whether you venture abroad or simply to the next town over, taking a break from your usual routines with a trip away from home can help break negative cycles, get you out of a rut and reveal a world of possibilities beyond your bubble.

'When I'm in a period of depression, getting out of the house and out of negative routines (for me, wallowing on the couch and eating junk food) can help to clear my head and give me the space to properly consider the things my brain is telling me,' says David Owen , YA author and former travel editor. 'Going somewhere completely outside of my usual sphere, be that close to home or abroad, can be an effective way of gaining both literal and metaphorical distance. If nothing else, I have interesting stuff to go and look at and do as a distraction!'

A black tuk tuk speeds along a street in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The vehicle and passengers are sharply in focus, while the background is blurred, giving the impression the tuk tuk is travelling as great speed.

3. It gives you a different perspective

Experiencing different cultures can open your eyes to new ways of living. Something as simple as learning a new recipe or changing the way you spend your downtime can have a dramatic effect on your wellbeing. Travel can lead you to question and challenge the norms of everyday life at home, potentially inspiring you to make positive changes.

When I feel my own stress levels rising, for example, I like to think back to my experiences riding in tuk-tuks in Sri Lanka . As we overtook buses on blind corners, dodged death-wish pedestrians and got cut up by countless motorbikes, our driver remained relaxed and took it all in his stride, as did other road users. Despite the chaos, everyone was calm. After a few of these journeys, my own worries and bewilderment dissipated as I realized that the alternative responses – fear or road rage – serve no one. I try to apply this lesson to my life at home: you cannot control the actions of others – only the way you respond to them.

4. It increases creativity

It’s been scientifically proven that new experiences – particularly ones that allow you to immerse yourself in a different culture – improve the neuroplasticity of your brain, increasing creativity in the process. After a stint of grief-induced agoraphobia, Erica Buist traveled around the world to take part in seven festivals for the dead – and wrote a book about it.

'I helped build an altar for the dead in Mexico , danced in a parade in Nepal , learned enough Japanese to get by in Kyoto  and in Madagascar , I got hit in the head by a corpse (it was on the shoulders of its dancing descendants)', she says. 'Every now and again I feel a shadow of not wanting to leave the house, but after all the experiences I’ve had, it’s hard to doubt my ability to get to the shops. Travel is stressful, even when it’s wonderful, and now when things go south it's almost like the travel I've done is a benchmark I know I can get back to.’

5. It lowers stress levels

Sometimes all your body and mind need is a rest – and where better to chill out than on a sun lounger somewhere warm? Sunshine is a great stress-buster, giving you a dose of mood-boosting vitamin D and increasing the brain’s release of serotonin, the so-called ‘happy hormone’. Leaving work stress and the everyday routine behind in exchange for afternoon naps, leisurely walks and the freedom to make your own schedule can do your mental health the world of good. Spending time away with friends and loved ones can add to the feel-good factor, while solo travel can refresh your sense of independence.

6. It boosts self-esteem and confidence

Travel isn’t always swaying palms and spa days. It can also mean navigating crowds in excessive heat, getting lost, struggling with language barriers or culture shock – all of which is extra challenging if you’re prone to feeling down or anxious. Claire and Laura from Twins that Travel have found that dealing with travel stress has helped them cope in their everyday lives.

‘For us, travel has become an unlikely form of therapy for our anxiety. By keeping our worlds "big", travel gives context to the smaller tasks in life that can often feel overwhelming when you suffer with anxiety. For example, the elation of stepping off a plane after getting ourselves to the other side of the world makes completing a short train journey seem easily achievable. Travel continues to keep our lives open and fulfilled, which in turn, leads to better mental health.’

A group of travellers, stood round a large table, grind herbs into bowls as part of a cooking class in Battambang, Cambodia. The girl at the end of the table, facing the camera, has a big smile on her face.

7. It’s an act of self-care

When you’re feeling low, it’s easy to feel guilty or undeserving of nice things. But treating yourself to a trip – whether it’s a staycation or far-flung getaway – can be an empowering act of self-care.

‘Of course, anxiety and depression can make traveling difficult. Anxiety makes me worry about doing it, and depression both saps my energy to organize it and tells me I'm not worth the effort,’ says David. ‘Planning a trip can be a good way to push through that and show yourself some love or give yourself some purpose.’

As well as the focus and excitement travel planning can bring, travel itself grants you the freedom to do what you love, take time to rest and practice living in the moment. To this end, for many people, travel is not simply an enjoyable pastime, but an essential part of fostering a healthy, positive mindset.

Please note:  If you do suffer with mental health problems, make sure you read up on government advice and healthcare guidance , as well as talking it through with trusted people in your support network, before choosing to embark on a trip.

Master Woo Myung Book - #1 Amazon Bestseller and #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller and # 1 Barnes and Noble Bestseller USA Today Bestseller - How to have a meeting with God Buddha Allah THE HUMAN MIND IS THE FALSE MIND In the human mind, there are the life lived (karma), the habits (inherited from one’s ancestors), and the body. These make up the human mind. People live inside their own mind worlds, which overlap the world. They are not the true world, but worlds of illusions that their minds have made. That is why people live in false worlds, do false things and when they die, they just end up completely dying. This is why they are incomplete. A person’s mind is one’s own fixed conceptions, habits, and customs that only he himself possesses.

27 Eye-Opening Quotes From People With Disabilities

"Stop saying I am inspiring or amazing when I do ordinary things."

serene woman in wheelchair looking at idyllic summer ocean beach view from cliff

We spoke to a variety of people from all over the country who have both visible and invisible disabilities about what they wish people outside the community knew, misconceptions that they encounter and things they wish people would stop doing or saying.

What do you wish people outside the disability community knew or understood?

  • “ That having a disability can be a positive part of who you are . My disability has shaped my career and has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people! ” — Arielle Silverman, 39, is blind. She is d irector of research at the American Foundation for the Blind.
  • “ Deafness does not prevent people from being successful — discrimination is the main barrier we face.” —Sheryl Emery, 64, is deaf. She is President of National Black Deaf Advocates .
  • “ Ableist ideas and beliefs affect people with disabilities in all aspects of life , including employment, healthcare, education, housing, transportation, etc. These ideas and beliefs create systems that discriminate and oppress people with disabilities.” —Theo W. Braddy is paralyzed from the neck down. He is executive director of The National Council on Independent Living .
  • “Autism can be an incredibly debilitating disability— there’s an extremely high prevalence of loneliness in the autism community. Individuals with autism die 16 years younger than the average human. 85% of college educated autistics are unemployed. I like to say that with autism I can excel at the extraordinary, but I can really struggle with the simple .”— Russell Lehmann , 33, has autism, OCD, depression and anxiety. He is a speaker, poet and activist.
  • “ People with disabilities are just as worthy as those without disabilities to live happy, productive lives.” — Sydney Badeau, 30, has dyspraxia, a nonverbal learning disorder and a sensory processing disorder. She is an advocacy and outreach specialist at The Arc Wisconsin .
  • “ Recognizing the importance of accessibility and inclusivity is vital . For example, having ramps and wider doorways not only benefits wheelchair users but also individuals with mild cerebral palsy, who may experience difficulty with coordination or movement on one side of their body. This promotes equality and empathy for everyone. —Ashley Glears, 30, has cerebral palsy with right hemiplegia. She is a chapter associate at The Arc of the United States.
  • “It’s important to understand that disability is a natural part of the human experience and that people with disabilities deserve equal rights, opportunities, and respect. What do you wish people outside the disability community would stop doing and/or saying?

  • “ I wish they would stop saying I am amazing or inspiring when I do ordinary things. ” — Arielle Silverman
  • “ Stop asking Deaf people if we can read your lips. Communication is the responsibility of all parties in a conversation . Asking the Deaf person to read your lips places all the responsibility for communicating on the Deaf person. ” —Sheryl Emery

  • “I wish people would refrain from making assumptions or judgments about individuals with disabilities based solely on their appearance or perceived limitations. It's important to approach each person with respect, understanding, and open-mindedness.” — Ashley Glears
  • “I wish people would stop constantly infantilizing adults with disabilities , especially those who are nonspeaking or minimally speaking.” —Elizabeth "Lizzy" Graham, 34, has Asperger’s/Autism, ADHD, Anxiety with OCD tendencies, eczema and obstructive sleep apnea. She is service coordinator for Medicaid HCBS Waiver Services at The Arc of Prince George's County.

  • “People should stop automatically assuming that we are brave for dealing with our disabilities. People should stop considering us vulnerable people who cannot work and contribute to our community.” — Sean Pevsner
  • “I wish they would stop making fun of and looking down on people with disabilities. I also wish they would stop treating people with disabilities like children . Often time, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are treated like children. They’re not - they’re adults.” — Melody Cooper, 54, has cerebral palsy and intellectual disability. She is self-advocate specialist at The Arc of Indiana .
  • “One thing that I wish people would stop assuming is that people who experience disability are living off the government . This is not the case at all. We need the assistance to live a normal life like everyone else in the world and we are trying to make something for ourselves with the support we have provided to us.” — Ric Nelson, 40, has cerebral palsy. He is an executive director of Peer Power .

i wish they would stop saying i am amazing or inspiring when i do ordinary things, arielle silverman

What's a misconception people have about you and your abilities?

  • “ That I am lacking something or 'living in darkness .' Or that I am perpetually afraid of the world around me just because I can’t see it. My life experience is rich with many other sensations, thoughts and emotions that have nothing to do with vision or lack thereof. ” — Arielle Silverman
  • “ There are Deaf people in almost every profession. Don’t assume because a person cannot hear that they are incapable. Not everyone lip reads and we do not have better sight to make up for not being able to hear . We enjoy music, we drive. The biggest barriers we face are attitudes.” —Sheryl Emery
  • “ The biggest misconception is they're underestimating me and the 61 million others like me - this comes from a long history of devaluing people like me.” —Theo W. Braddy
  • “ Society has taught me from a young age that I can’t show my autism in public . So, a lot of my struggles are in my house, alone. A lot of the struggle is behind the scenes.” — Russell Lehmann
  • “One big misconception is that I am not able to follow directions, learn, or be employable . I want to work, so I can be independent and get my own apartment.” —Marcus Stewart, 23, has Down Syndrome.
  • “That not everyone with a disability presents in the same way. Some may struggle with something while others may not, and each person may need different or unique accommodations.” — Sydney Badeau

people with disabilities are just as worthy as those without disabilities to live happy, productive lives, sydney badeau

  • “One common misconception people have about me and my abilities is assuming that I'm only capable of simple tasks or responses, when in reality, I'm capable of understanding complex concepts and engaging in meaningful conversations across a wide range of topics.” — Ashley Glears
  • “I operate at the intersections of a woman of color with visible and non-visible disabilities, so I encounter many layers of misconceptions in my life. Nevertheless, I’m a proud wife, mom, engineer, educator, and advocate. My daily fight for the cessation of stereotypes and stigmatizing language surrounding disability is not for me, but others without the voice to fight for themselves. I wish people understood the innovative contributions that disabled people bring to communities and society .” —Dr. Yvette Pegues
  • “ People have the misconception that I cannot represent people in cases . They assume incorrectly that since I have a speech impairment, I cannot argue for my clients’ best interest. It is very tiring to have to constantly prove myself.” — Sean Pevsner
  • “People have thought that I would never be anything or do anything, that I don’t know what’s going on in the world. Having an intellectual disability does not mean you’re dumb . They work harder than most just to do things others take for granted. They may need help with certain things, but don’t we all?” — Melody Cooper

Can you boost your health by playing in the dirt?

Spending time outdoors exposes individuals to soil bacteria, which is linked to physical and mental health benefits.

travel mental health quotes

By Alyssa Bradford

Frequent exposure to dirt has long been linked to health benefits, like lower rates of Crohn’s disease , asthma and allergies . Recent research highlights the role of soil bacteria in reducing inflammation and improving mental health , according to The New York Times .

Per Healthline , encouraging children to play in the mud offers numerous benefits beyond just fun and creativity. These activities expose them to germs, potentially boosting their immune system, reducing the likelihood of allergies later in life and fostering memorable experiences.

How to spend more time in the dirt

Christopher A. Lowry, University of Colorado Boulder’s professor of integrative physiology, told The New York Times , “We’re breathing in a tremendous amount of microbial diversity” just by being out in nature.

From a wide range of getting dirty to staying clean, here are ways to spend time in nature and possibly receive some health benefits along the way.

Garden or pick plants

Get your hands dirty by starting a garden by your home. Whether it be fruits, vegetables, flowers or herbs, pick something that you would enjoy seeing or eating.

Even without a garden, plant picking — whether for apples, berries or other seasonal delights — provides a similar opportunity to connect with the soil.

Per Mayo Clinic , gardening may also allow individuals to get more exercise, have an improved diet, reduce stress and improve mental health.

Go on a hike

Whether on a short stroll or a multiday trek, hiking allows individuals to get close to dirt and nature without the actual need to get dirty. It serves as a great form of exercise and a change of scenery.

According to the National Park Service , hiking is also proven to:

  • Build strong muscles and bones.
  • Improve your sense of balance.
  • Improve your heart health.
  • Decrease the risk of certain respiratory problems.
  • Reduce stress.
  • Calm anxiety.
  • Decrease the risk of depression.
  • Strengthen relationships.

Have a picnic outside

Gather your friends or family for an outdoor picnic and enjoy the fresh air! Find a nearby park or even sit in the backyard on a blanket. Unless you’re wanting to choose all the food yourself, consider making the picnic a potluck, with everyone suggesting or bringing their own foods to share.

Try bringing outdoor or board games to make the picnic a more memorable experience while helping everyone spend more time outside.

Per Healthline , spending time outdoors, such as having a picnic, will also help with:

  • Depression symptoms.
  • Motivation to exercise.
  • Mental restoration.
  • Immune function.

If none of those suggestion speak to you, consider looking at the list below to find something you, or your family, might like to enjoy.

Women at work: a deloitte study highlights women’s workplace struggles.

Workplace wellness for women is in need of a reinvention.

Today's fast-paced business culture glamorizes success without acknowledging the hidden costs. While leadership and building a successful career requires sacrifice, these burdens can vary significantly depending on gender. A recent Deloitte report highlighted the nuanced challenges women face in the workplace beyond the well-known gender pay gap.

Deloitte's Women at Work: A Global Outlook report, now in its fourth year, highlights the critical issues affecting women's careers. While the gender pay gap remains a pressing issue, the survey of 5,000 women across ten countries highlighted three often overlooked areas of concern: mental health, physical pain, and safety in the workplace and during travel.

Creating an Organizational Shift

Bio-individuality is a concept used in health and wellness to indicate that each person has a unique biological makeup. What works for one person in terms of diet and exercise may not necessarily work for another. Just as an individual has a unique biological constitution, organizations must recognize and address their team members' diverse needs, especially regarding women.

Creating an organization that adheres to a bio-individualized philosophy in its approach to wellness and culture could benefit talent retention and recruitment , employee engagement , productivity, and legal and ethical considerations. Here are three ways to incorporate organizational bio-individuality into your culture:

Expand The Approach To Mental Health

With 48% of women in the study stating that they are concerned or very concerned about their mental health, along with half of women expressing their stress levels are higher compared to a year ago, organizations need to move beyond generic wellness initiatives. Mental health is a potential financial tsunami, forecast to reach an unfathomable $6 trillion in global expenditures by 2030, according to a joint study by the World Economic Forum and the Harvard School of Public Health.

Acknowledging and understanding the nuanced factors contributing to stress, such as work environment, ageism, and other gender-specific challenges, is essential. Mental health apps and meditation classes are valuable but just the tip of the iceberg. Organizations must go deeper than the surface level to identify and address the root causes of the various workplace mental health stressors .

Don't Overlook The Stages of Life

In the Deloitte report, around 25% of women were dealing with health issues related to menstruation, fertility, or menopause. And 40% of women experiencing high menstrual pain or menopausal pain worked through it. Menopausal symptoms ranging from brain fog to insomnia to hot flashes are issues that affect roughly 25% of the U.S. working population . With that said a large percentage of women kept these challenges hidden, and to no surprise, even fewer women felt comfortable discussing these challenges compared to a year ago.

With a high percentage of women in the workplace dealing with gender-specific challenges on top of fertility rates dropping to their lowest in a century, it's beneficial for organizations to recognize the evolving needs of women's health. Providing tailored resources and support for these challenges through specific leaves of absence, focus groups, and other actionable steps can help create a supportive and high-performing environment.

Reimagine Travel and Workplace Safety

Business travel is back in full effect, with both men and women jet-setting across the globe. However, safety concerns, particularly during business travel , are significant for women. In the Deloitte study, almost half of the women worried about their safety at work or while traveling. Key actions include improving corporate travel wellness programs and policies by:

  • Providing destination-specific research and intel.
  • Placing team members in top-notch hotels.
  • Offering readily available emergency support services.
  • Utilizing dedicated car services instead of rideshare apps to enhance security.

While these statistics and the entire report may seem daunting, they nevertheless present themselves as an opportunity for forward-thinking CEOs and organizations to differentiate themselves by acknowledging (and taking action toward) the unique health challenges faced by women in the workplace.

By embracing a bio-individualized workforce culture, organizations can attract and retain the best people and, ultimately, create their unique advantage and thus stand out in the competitive business world.

NY Health Hypnosis & Integrative Therapy (646-537-1713) highlights the role of hypnosis in mental health treatments as part of its expanded approach to addressing social anxiety in clients.

New York, United States - April 23, 2024 —

The clinic's therapists, Rebecca Hoffenberg, Psy.D, Karolina Pekala, Psy.D, Demi Maglio, Psy.D, Laura Faiwiszewski, Psy.D, and Irada Yunusova, Psy.D now employ an integrative wellness approach to managing and reducing social anxiety in clients. The mental health professionals will develop a custom treatment plan that combines mindfulness, psychoanalysis, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and hypnosis to address the complexities of the condition.

More details can be found at https://www.nyhealthhypnosis.com/specialties/anxiety-stress-fear-phobia

NY Health Hypnosis explains that anxiety may present both somatically and cognitively, with patients often experiencing symptoms ranging from a racing heart and sweaty palms to intrusive thoughts that something bad is going to happen. As part of their holistic approach, the therapists help their clients address all these factors in tailored mental health sessions to ensure longer-lasting recovery.

Most notably, hypnosis plays a significant role in creating a well-rounded treatment plan for social anxiety. Hypnosis may offer therapeutic benefits for clients who regularly experience panic attacks and become overwhelmed during social gatherings. Through hypnotherapy, individuals can identify the root causes of their fears and corresponding behaviors, and from there, challenge these irrational beliefs.

The team also highlights research that confirms the benefits of using hypnosis in treating individuals with anxiety. Going beyond traditional mental health treatments, hypnosis supports clients in a relaxed and reflective state. It is in this state that they learn various techniques to understand, accept, and cope with their fears - including social anxiety.

About NY Health Hypnosis

NY Health Hypnosis specializes in integrative therapy, incorporating psychoanalysis, mindfulness, Buddhist theories, and hypnosis to promote meaningful change in the lives of its clients. The team works with clients reporting a wide range of conditions, including emotional eating, confidence and motivation, and ADHD, among others.

A spokesperson for the team says, "While hypnosis alone cannot adequately treat anxiety disorders, the addition of hypnosis to the therapeutic treatment of anxiety can have a profound impact on helping a person mitigate and cope with their anxiety. We combine hypnotic techniques with traditional therapy modalities to address the troubling symptoms associated with anxiety and panic."
