As with all low to mid price bikes, you'll probably want to replace the saddle with something more comfortable.

I've had my 7100 for 3 years. Although I have 2 other bikes, I ride it more often than the others (almost every day). I commute and ride for recreation year-around. This bike feels solid and handles well in rain and snow. In fact, I have other friends who swear by the 7100 as their best winter bike. This is a good all-around bike. It was easy to add fenders, a rack, and personalized accessories. The 7100 is also a very versatile ride. I use mine for in town commuting and for multi-day long-haul rides. I could spend 3 times as much on another hybrid, but why bother when I have exactly what I want.

Strong frame, quick and reliable.

I recently noticed a creaking sound coming from the crank area when I really apply torque to the pedals which is quite often. I had the assembly overhauled but still notice the creaking sound.

I own a 7100 since new in 2007. For the first three year I rode it a total of perhaps 600 miles. I move to Florida and commute to work about 17 mile round trip/day. I now have just over 4000 miles on it and love it. It is fast and strong. I recently had to replace the chain and freewheel. I am very satisfied with this machine and have not had one breakdown yet. I would recommend this bike.

Both tires leak

I didn't think to check the trueness of the tires. I waited 4 months before starting to bike and found both tires WAY out of balance/alignment(rubbing the brakes in spots. Also both tires constantly leak air. I have to refill every other week. I expected a little more froma 450 dollar bike. Buyer Beware!!!

My bike is a TREK 7000 regular fork as opposed to the suspension fork on the 7100 model. Mine is a 2008, but this form choices only went up to year 2007. Very nice bike. I ride on paved roads and fairly level ground. I am usually on the middle chainring in front and gears 3 and 4 on the rear sprocket. It shifts smoothly, and is very comfortable. I like this bike for casual riding alongside my wife on her TREK 7200, 2007 model. When I want to ride a bit faster, I use my TREK 460 racing road bike with drop bars and skinny tires.

2008 trek 7100. 17.5 inch size. Bontrager tires need air every ten days to keep them at 80psi. Accerories are not better than Walmart top line mountain bike's though the frame is drastically lighter. The shop owner told me the frames are the same on the more expensive bikes and the accesories are what causes the cost to increase. It does shift well on small hills here in Western Oregon. Solid frame and fast.

Shifting is rough and loud and it's obvious the parts are budget.

This bike is extremely fast and has a solid frame. I typically ride 25-30 miles throught rolling country-side with hills. I find the shifting rough and believe it to be truly budget stuff. With the hill where I live, I think I may need to upgrade. That said, if your on flat ground the bike flys and it has a solid frame.

Commuting Performance

The trek 7100 excels at road riding.

When it comes to sidewalk handling, the trek 7100 can handle it with ease, whether it’s a slightly potholed surface or a brick-lined sidewalk.

Although not as fast as a road bike, the 7100 is more comfortable to ride than road bikes in the same price range.

Park trails or woodland trails by the street will be very easy with only 50 mm of fork travel, and loose branches will have almost no effect on it. Fenders and a rear rack are optional extras.

It is now more suitable for commuting.

When compared to other hybrid bikes, the Trek 7100 rides slightly faster due to its steep head tube angle, which allows it to be faster on both uphill and downhill commuting roads.

I prefer the Trek 7100 for riding on park trails because the sit-to-stand riding position, soft seat, and subtle chain sound make it easier to get to your destination.

The Trek 7100 women’s bike has a straddle style frame that makes riding easier for women. The men’s frame is more akin to a woodland mountain bike.

The homogenized frame makes it difficult for riders to choose, but the frame of the Trek 7100 retains the Trek 7000 model, so there are no overly complicated changes when riding in the mountains.

The 7100 in 2002 used a less expensive steel fork, so the body weight was lighter, but it was less comfortable for mountain trail riding.

The 7100, on the other hand, has since adopted an aluminum suspension with only 50 mm of travel, but for a hybrid bike that focuses on commuting and comfortable riding, the cost is low on the one hand, and the performance of other components must be considered on the other.

As a result, it is an acceptable type of suspension. When riding in a normal mountain, the fork does not have a soft or hard damping effect, making it more difficult to bottom out. Trek’s fork performs better in all of the effects observed.

3X7 drivetrain (4.0/5)

Shimano’s drivetrain has the same configuration as the drivetrain of many cheap mountain bikes nowadays, and it performs well in terms of sturdiness and riding efficiency, as well as responsiveness.

Commuter riding is less likely to encounter intense riding riders, but dealing with the terrain of commuting is one of its strengths, with 21-speed combinations that provide a wide range of shifts.

SRAM Shift Levers (4.2/5)

A very Nys day in Switzerland

Thibau Nys secured his first WorldTour victory on Stage 2 at the Tour de Romandie on a day that saw two puncheurs go head-to-head on a mountain top finish.

Nys’ disappointment after being boxed in at tje finish of Stage 1 turned into elation in Les Marécottes after an impressive display of strength from young Belgian on only his third race day of his 2024 road season.

Lidl-Trek had a plan going into the 171km-long stage and that was to have Nys in a strong breakaway and Nys was so strong himself today that is was the 21-year-old that forced the move, that eventually grew to be seven-riders strong, to go clear.

This was also a first, the first breakaway of Nys’ career so far and makes for a nice statistic, a 100 percent success rate of victories from an early move.

The group worked well together, they had a solid advantage going over the top of the Col des Mosses and as they reached the base of the final eight-kilometer climb, five riders remained in front with an advantage over two minutes.

From there it was game on and the reduced bunch, with Tao Geoghegan Hart, Giulio Ciccone, Patrick Konrad and Sam Oomen sitting relaxed, started to apply the pressure.

With the gap down to around 30 seconds, Luke Plapp (Team Jayco AlUla) launched an attack that saw him bridge across to the leaders and draw Nys and Andrea Vendrame (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team) with him.

After a final hairpin bend with 200 meters to go, Nys, who had looked calm and composed in the final kilometers, knowing he was the fastest of the race, launched his sprint.

Nys’ stage win also secured him his third career-first of the day: a leader’s jersey at a WorldTour stage race.

Thibau’s Reaction

“I was so disappointed yesterday that I couldn’t show my good legs. We made a plan to go in the break if it was a strong one. I think I set up the break in the perfect moment. It was a group of pretty strong guys, I just tried to save as much energy as possible but I didn’t really know what to expect to be honest because it was the first time I’m in the breakaway in my career.

“Also I didn’t really know the last climb or the corners, so I must say a massive thanks to the team, they did a hell of a job to guide me in the last kilometers. I was surprised when Michi [Schär, Sports Director] told me there was a hairpin 200m to go, I almost missed it but it was just in time for me to make my sprint.

“It gets difficult if you think about it [that it’s your race to lose], that’s the moment when it can slip out of your hands. I tried to stay cool and not risk anything, then do everything at the right moment.

“I cannot describe this. For some people it might just look like a normal victory, but I wanted it so bad and I worked so hard for it. It was the first big goal of the season to be in good shape here. That’s one thing, and then to win it’s something else. I will remember this for the rest of my life.

“My TT is not good enough at the moment to keep the jersey, but I will enjoy my day in Yellow tomorrow and I will definitely sleep better than yesterday after today. I started my season three days ago and to be sitting here right now is better than I could ever dream of.”

Moscow city bike rental prices slashed for World Cup

Muscovites and tourists can now rent city bikes for just 350 rubles for three days. The special tariff started on June 11 and will run until the end of the World Cup on July 15. What’s more, the first hour of rental is now free for the same period, instead of the usual 30 mins.

There are currently about 380 rental stations with another 50 due to be opened this summer. Around 4,300 bikes and 260 electrobikes are available. Six Candidates Running For Three Seats On Moscow City Council

Moscow voters will have several contested elections to decide this fall.

The candidate filing period for seats up for a vote this year in Idaho ended on Friday.

Six candidates are running for three Moscow City Council seats.  Incumbents Sandra Kelly and Drew Davis are running for re-election.  Bryce Blankenship, Joe Campbell, Evan Holmes and Nathan Tupper are also running for city council.  The top three vote getters in November will earn Moscow City Council seats.  Councilwoman Maureen Laflin is not running for re-election.

Elsewhere in Latah County the race for Juliaetta Mayor has three candidates.  Mayor Richard Groseclose is being challenged by Jeff Lohman and Eric McDowell.

No one filed for mayor and a council post in Onaway.
