Early access tour - so worth it!

We did an early access tour through the Wynwood Walls and loved every second of it. It's great seeing the place without other people (and when it's still a little 'colder' in the morning, instead of in the middle of the day). Our tour guide was super friendly and showed us everything we wanted to see, plus helped us to take some pictures. We also loved learning more about the artists of the stunning art pieces.

Beautiful museum to visit. I enjoy the art presented. I can see most of the art inside the show rooms are for selling. So is that is the case, why they are charging an entry fee?. Anyway, is a place to visit, but also to walk around the streets where you can see more pop art in building walls.

You need to see more in the neighborhood to make this jaunt worthwhile in my opinion. We have a great street art scene in LA and this was pretty small but still good...

On a trip to or through Miami, make sometime to stop for a few hours to see the walls and check out the area. Just a short Uber ride from Miami Beach and a perfect thing to do after check-out before heading back to Miami international- we did!

I love Wynwood Walls. It has a great vibe, and a nice chance to see local art. The only reason I deducted a star is they are now charging an entrance fee. It was always free in the past and its disappointing to see how they are changing things now.

What a great experience! I was supposed to go to the beach with my sis but the weather put the kibosh on that. Instead, my sis suggested a walk through Wynwood and we ended up at Wynwood Walls. Wow! The beautiful art and vibe was worth the heat and brief rain shower we experienced. There were a lot of people walking through the area, snapping photos, and the atmosphere was almost congenial.

The Ultimate Guide To Exploring The Miami Wynwood Walls

January 11, 2021 //  by  Florida Trippers

Throughtout all of Miami, you can find art! From the beaches and colorful condos of South Beach to the monuments and statues that capture history, art is everywhere you look.

If you’re truly an art lover or you’re looking for something unique to do, you must visit the Wynwood Walls. Celebrating and capturing Miami’s unique culture, you won’t find a better representation of raw street art anywhere else in the world! This is truly one of the Best Places To Stay In Miami!

What Are The Wynwood Walls?

The Wynwood Walls are a series of murals in Miami in the warehouse district of Wynwood. It is one of the largest open-air art installations in the world.

It all began in 2009 when the late Tony Goldman used the walls of the warehouses as canvases for artists to create art. He successfully built a bustling community out of the ashes of a forgotten neighborhood.

What started with the buildings 25th-26th Street complex has grown into a bustling art district. Every wall has been transformed into a giant canvas, arguably creating the greatest collection of street art ever seen in one place!

Over the years, the community has expanded to include the Wynwood Walls Garden. The space showcases four additional murals in a beautifully landscaped, lush open area for guests to relax and take in the art.

The most recent addition to the community is the Wynwood Doors! A piece of land, formerly a dump, was transformed into a park with boulders and elegant trees. Metal rolldown gates were installed onto the surrounding walls, giving artists even more space to create!

How Do They Choose Artists For The Wynwood Walls?

Every artist in the world wants to leave their mark on Wynwood. All eyes are on the district. It doesn’t matter what kind of artist you are, to have your work at Wynwood Walls means it will be seen by a lot of people.

While a few of the murals are permanent, the collection changes. Usually once an artist has painted a mural, it remains there for one to three years. But if the art on the walls change, how do you get to be chosen?

Artists submit project proposals to a board at Goldman Properties. These proposals must include images of the proposed mural. The artists selected are a combination of emerging new artists and established, world-class artists.

Parking In Wynwood

Parking in Miami can be challenging, so if you’re planning on driving to the Wynwood Walls you need to be prepared. Keep in mind, you will have to do some amount of walking no matter where you park.

Parking in Miami is not free, but luckily the city has made payment easier. Miami is the first city in the United States to accept mobile payments for parking! Simply download the PayByPhone app.

With PayByPhone, you don’t have to track down a meter to pay for parking. You’ll even receive push notifications when your time is about to expire! You can even pay on the spot to extend your time. No more parking tickets!

Nearby street parking is difficult to obtain, but if you can find it, you’ll pay $1.50 an hour from 7 AM – 2 AM, or a flat $5 fee during special events. If you plan on staying in Wynwood for more than three hours, you will have to move your car to a new “parking zone.”

If you plan on spending the entire day, you will probably want to find a garage. Your closest option is the Midtown Miami North Block Garage at 3401 N Miami Ave, about 18 minutes away on foot. You can also try the Design District Lot at 175-187 NE 36th St.

How Long To Spend In Wynwood

How long you spend at the Wynwood Walls depends solely on what you want to do. Some people just want to see the most famous art while others really like to explore the area!

If you get in the car and just drive through the neighborhoods, you can easily see most of the murals from your vehicle in about 30 minutes to an hour. Keep in mind you’re just driving by, so you won’t get any pictures.

Two hours will be the perfect amount of time to get in, see the art, take pictures, and then make your way back to your car. But if you want to see more, we recommend allowing for five to six hours.

There are so many incredible shops and restaurants all through the district that are worth exploring. Allowing time for a meal, window-shopping, picture-taking, and admiring the art and gardens can easily take up your entire day!

Tips For Visiting Wynwood Walls

Even though Wynwood has become more and more developed over the years since it opened in 2009, the area is not the safest at night. We advise going early in the day, at least while the sun is still up.

If you stay into the night, stick to the highly populated areas. You can also frequent the many restaurants and bars in the area. Just steer clear of walking through poorly-lit alleyways, especially if you’re alone.

It’s also best to approach the Wynwood Walls with an open mind. If you’re returning, don’t expect to see the same mural. The art is constantly changing, so there’s a good chance it’s already gone.

You should also come to the Wynwood Walls with an empty stomach. Some of the best restaurants in Miami are in the Wynwood district, as well as some of the best nightlife. Be prepared to feast and indulge in a few libations as well.

If you’re an Instagram influencer or just want to get a good picture, be careful of your outfit choice. A lot of the murals feature busy patterns, so wear solid colors (or even white) so you don’t clash with the art behind you!

While we explored parking options earlier in the post, you will have to walk a great deal to get to most of the best murals and restaurants. Unless you’re ready to scour the streets for a parking spot there, we recommend taking a Lyft or Uber to make things easier.

Best Things To Do In Wynwood

Wynwood art walk.

From 6 PM to 10 PM on the second Saturday of every month, you can attend the Wynwood Art Walk. A monthly festival that takes place throughout the neighborhood, we recommend planning your trip around this recurring event!

After you’ve spent the day exploring the streets, you can support the local artists whose work you’ve just admired. You can purchase original artwork, prints, pins, and more directly from the artists themselves!

While you’re mingling with the local talent, you can enjoy live music, walk through pop-up art galleries, or just sit in the garden with a beer! Make sure to check out the food trucks that line up during the event!

Museum of Graffiti

The Museum of Graffiti is Wynwood’s only museum. The only museum in the world dedicated completely to the art of graffiti, they celebrate the preservation and the process of creating street art.

Preserving graffiti’s history, the museum celebrates its history and emergence into design, fashion, and advertising. You can see this through an indoor and outdoor exhibition space. You can also find eleven more murals outside!

The Museum experience also includes a fine art gallery. Don’t forget to visit the world-class gift shop. You can pick up limited-edition merchandise and items created exclusively by the world’s most infamous graffiti artists.

Wynwood Walls Shop

It’s easy to lose a few hours in the Wynwood Walls Shop because there’s so much to see! Featuring merchandise from the current artists of the Walls, the shop’s wares are constantly changing.

There’s something for everyone at the Wynwood Walls Shop. You can find stickers, books, prints, pins, keychains, and magnets. You can even purchase apparel like hoodies, t-shirts, backpacks, and hats!

You can even find skateboard deck, hydro flasks, action figures, and incredibly stylish playing cards. Be prepared to empty your wallets, we promise you’re going to want to go crazy in here.

Hit up the Thrift Stores

Bargain hunters looking for unique finds and the best deals know that thrift stores are where it’s at! The Wynwood Walls are actually home to some of the best thrift stores and boutiques in all of Miami.

First hit Out of the Closet, which is a unique national chain whose proceeds benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Here you’ll find gently used trinkets and apparel. You can also bring your prescriptions to the on-site pharmacy and get a free, confidential HIV test.

Then head to the Lotus House Chic Thrift Boutique where proceeds benefit the Lotus House Women and Children’s Center. The store is divided into two sections: vintage and thrift. If you’re looking for a pair of quirky earrings or a vintage armoire, Lotus House is your best bet.

If you still have some scratch to spend, head to The House of Findings. Just like its name suggests, you’re bound to find a unique piece here. Featuring vintage and up-cycled wares, this is the perfect place to find a piece of art to hang on that empty spot on your wall.

Where To Eat In Wynwood

Wynwood kitchen and bar.

The Wynwood Kitchen and Bar is an Arts District hot-spot you won’t want to miss on your tour of Wynwood Walls. With indoor and outdoor seating, the artwork of Shepard Fairey surrounds you as you dine.

Kush has won every award under the sun, from best restaurant, burger, key lime pie , chicken n’ waffles, veggie burger. When you get a taste of their food, you’ll understand why.

All of the food at Kush is sourced locally from Florida farms and made completely from scratch. We love the Bababooey Burger with caramelized apples and melty brie cheese. Don’t forget the Crab Cake Salad and the Baja Fish Tacos.

With one of the most incredible beer menus, Kush collaborates with local breweries to offer rare releases and craft beers exclusive to Kush. You can also attend many special events and participate in their monthly home brewers series!

Traveler Reviews

I pre-booked an early access tour of Wynwood Walls online and paid a total of $39.55. The early access tour starts at 10am. Expensive yes, but from all accounts it would be worth it. I was very excited for this. I love street art and this was my first time getting to see this side of Miami after many trips over the years. After booking I was sent an email advising me to arrive early as late arrival would mean I would miss the start of the tour. I left Aventura at 9am and arrived at Wynwood Walls at 9:40am. Be mindful that there is nowhere shaded or covered to wait so if there is rain, you will just get soaked. So I waited. And waited... I saw all of the workers arrive and go and just sit around inside but their door remained halfway closed. The appointed time of my tour, 10am, came and I waited for the door to be opened but nothing. The workers continued to sit around and talk with each other, clearly visible behind the glass, ignoring me completely. I gave them a few minutes then at 10:10am I knocked on the glass to indicate that I had a tour and was waiting. Now certainly, the workers would know someone WAS booked for an early access tour and they would also know the tour starts at 10am. They would see someone standing outside at 10am and yet they ignored me when I first knocked. I knocked again and a man got up, rolling his eyes, and laughed at me while pointing to the opening time of 11am on the glass separating us. I in turn pointed to the writing on said glass directly below which clearly stated 'early access tours at 10am daily' but he continued to laugh and point at the 11am. By then it was 10:15am and I began to see what this was. I am black and he was not, and he either thought I was unable to read or to adequately comprehend the concept of time, hence his laughter and obvious derision. He was not even interested in allowing me to explain. Humiliated now, I wanted to walk away but I refused to allow racism to win. Finally a black young man got up and came to the door to speak to me. He quickly understood that the mistake was with Wynwood Walls and not me and I was finally admitted to the tour that I had ALREADY PAID FOR. There was then general confusion as no one seemed to be prepared to do my tour. There were SO many workers there and no one even checked my ticket. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. I looked over at the first man who simply stared. To be honest, I expected no apology under the circumstances, and of course received none, from him or anyone else. No one even thought to apologise for the late start to the tour. My experience was already hopelessly ruined. I went through with the tour (which judging from the time the first pic was taken in my phone started finally at 10:20am) although I didn't want to, because I had already paid. I liked my tour guide, and tipped him suitably, but much of what he said was unfortunately lost on me, through no fault of his. The art is nice and I did get pics but I would not return.

Amazing experience. So many activities worth it! Our tour guide made this very memorable. So informative in an entertaining way. Thank you!

Booked the 1hr tour and admission on the website. Fantastic tour. The guy who took our tour was very knowledgeable and also an artist. He gave us so much information about what we were looking it, and also about the street art in general. So worth doing. Highly recommended.

Loved the personal tour provided Lucinda did an excellent job of providing background to the area as well as the creators of the art displayed

Fantastic experience. So many activities to choose from in visiting Miami and yet this was at the top of our list and well worth it! Our tour guide Marco made this very memorable. So informative in an entertaining way. Thank you!

This was a great tour. We really enjoyed being able to get there ahead of the rush, and yes there was a rush and a ton of people afterwards. Marco was knowledgable about the murals and helped us take a few photos. We booked the early access tour. The only thing we didn't like was that this listing description says to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time and check in at the registration desk. But the people at the building didn't let us in until 10 am, so we were outside standing in the rain for a bit. The manager of this listing should remove that description for the early access tour if they will not open the building

I was hesitant to pay extra for the tour prior to opening. I would now recommend everyone to do it. The tour gives you extra information that we would never had known. Additionally getting that private time to do photos was worth it. Once the gates opened, it was flooded with guest. So this way we had the opportunity to take photos without other people in the background and not feel rushed.

Very knowledgeable and engaging guide, worth 30 mins of your time and money to learn about the exhibit.

We came to this place because my daughter loves the arts. No disappointment here, the tour describing the history behind these walls and the area in which it is located…. Only makes you appreciate it even more. Fully recommended to family and friends.

Tour was very informative and enjoyable. Just the right amount of time. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Would highly recommend doing this tour to get the most of your visit.

Wynwood walls tours.

The distinct area known as “Wynwood Walls” used to be free to enter and walk around, but they now charge admission.

Regardless, it's not to miss if you're in South Florida, especially if you're in Miami Beach for a couple of days , for example.

We looked up some history about the area and learned it's not that old of a concept or area. It's blown up in popularity since its inception in 2009 by the late Tony Goldman. And its popularity increases every year.

The mastermind behind Wynwood Walls passed away, but his family continues to carry on the company's operations worldwide.

(I have to interrupt myself to note that I've seen it written as “Wind Wood Walls” once in a while too. I can completely understand someone searching it as those words if they didn't know how it's spelled or they have never seen this Miami neighborhood name written!)

Fun things to do in Wynwood in addition to the famous walls. Sometimes Home travel blog spills all the details!

What started as an idea to allow and encourage local artists to cover the walls of old warehouses has grown into a national (maybe even global , since such a huge majority of their artists aren't even from the US) phenomenon.

Indeed, one “gated” area is officially entitled “Wynwood Walls.” The address is 2520 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127.

Tours at Wynwood Walls

A fun thing to do in Wynwood is to take an “official” tour of Wynwood Walls, the original six buildings, and the converted parking lot. It is truly a unique experience.

General admission is $12 for adults to tour Wynwood Walls at opens at 11:00 am, daily. Seniors and students are $5, Military are $10, and children are free. Be sure to bring your ID with you for the seniors/student/military tickets.

Go with a tour guide to learn something while you’re there for a few dollars extra. This is a great way to maximize your experience and gain early entrance to Wynwood Walls.

On these tours, in particular, you'll learn more about the history and conception of the famous Miami attraction.

You'll also learn more about the murals currently painted there, including information about the artists and the message of each piece of art. Additionally, you'll visit the three art galleries on-site. Each tour is 50 minutes and can be booked online.

Official tour options at Wynwood Walls include:

  • General tour offered every hour on the hour from 10:00am to 6:00pm (availability differs depending on the day).
  • Official Early Access Tour at 9:45am (which, to note, is just 15 minutes before the next tour comes in most days).

Have Fun with Murals “Outside” Wynwood Walls

When you approach Wynwood, you quickly realize that the ENTIRE neighborhood (and then some) is  COVERED  in impressive murals. What started as a concentrated idea and project by Goldman Properties has expanded.

It’s covered the neighborhood walls of Wynwood in creativity. And you can see the blending of cultures between so many of the murals too, one of the inspirational and quotable aspects of the city .

Wynwood isn't all murals! But many more fun things to do in. We reveal what to do in this hip Miami neighborhood on Sometimes Home travel blog. Click through for all the detailed information.

We spent the better part of two hours walking around exploring each street. It’s easy to get happily lost in time each time you turn a corner or discover a mural poking out of a fence. Here are just a few murals we saw…

Fun Things to Do in Wynwood Beyond Wynwood Walls and Simply Viewing Murals

We have seven great ideas for things to do beyond seeing murals in Wynwood:

  • Find Sculptures
  • Visit the Museum of Graffiti
  • Eat (and drink)
  • Get dessert
  • Shop (for clothes and art)
  • Get beers at a local brewery
  • Cycle your way through the neighborhood on a bicycle pub crawl
  • Visit Wynwood Marketplace
  • Safely handle a machine gun
  • Make a candle (doubles as a souvenir from your trip)

1. Find Sculptures

There's more art than paintings in Wynwood. We were blown away by this wooden troll that reminded us of the famous “Treemont Troll” in Seattle, Washington.

When we passed a heap of tire pieces on the sidewalk, I stopped to look at the front of it, wondering if it was a piece of art. It was – and we were floored but its face.

We also spotted a “flying” raven in the neighborhood. One of the fun things to do in Wynwood is just walking around and keeping your eyes peeled for any kind of art, sculptures included.

Check out Bounce and don't worry about lugging around your suitcase as you take selfies all over town!

2. Visit the Museum of Graffiti

If you want an education about graffiti, visit the Museum of Graffiti. There's a general admission of $16, but it is worth it to open your eyes to the beauty of the art form. It's open seven days a week, and you can book online ahead of time .

They offer guests exhibits, art for purchase, classes (like a beginner graffiti class), and various events by graffiti artists. It takes between thirty minutes to an hour to walk through the museum.

Address: 299 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33127

3. Eat at Wynwood Restaurants

Among the fun things to do in Wynwood is eat and drink. Here are some of the best Wynwood restaurants (all within walking distance):

Zak the Baker

If you're walking around and see a building covered in a rainbow of rectangles with “BAKERY” on the outside, you've found Zak the Baker . They bake artisan bread at their Wynwood shop (or at 15 Whole Foods locations throughout South Florida!) and have won too many awards to count.

They serve things in addition to bread, including fresh sandwiches, salads, bagels, avocado toast, and of course, assorted pastries.

R house has a  great happy hour from 3:00-7:00pm Wednesdays through Fridays. (Give us all the sweet pea hummus and Yellowfin Tuna Tartare!)

They have a patio space to enjoy that Florida sunshine and a delicious menu, including anything from short rib meatballs to pan-seared snapper.

Kyu has a wood-fired Asian menu featuring proteins from fish dishes to beef and then some.

They're eco-conscious and operate using green and sustainable methods, including not offering plastic straws. Kyu also participates in a zero-waste citrus program.

This sit-down restaurant has ample indoor and outdoor seating. Their affordable menu items like tacos and enchiladas are delicious in flavor and beautiful in presentation.

We loved Bakan's purple homemade flour tortillas they use for tacos and toast for chips. They had perfect flavor and texture. We recommend the Los Esquites street corn, Cochinita Pibil tacos, and watermelon margaritas.

Low Cost and Over-the-Counter Options

Whether you're limited on time or money, there are plenty of low-cost and quick-service dining options in Wynwood.

Zazzy's Pizza

This pizza place with low-key counter service is just across the street from the entrance of Wynwood Walls. Could be great for a snack too if you're a little noshy!

Zazzy's pizza sign in lights and pizza graphics with a peace sign in Wynwood, Florida.

If there's any meal I crave when I'm in Florida, it's a refreshing salad. Sweetgreen is an affordable plant-forward quick-service eatery (though they do have meat proteins, too), serving up fresh greens and grains bowls made to order.

Sweetgreen in Wynwood, Miami, with a colorful mural on the side of a white building at twilight.

Le Sandwicherie

this casual sandwich spot gets rave reviews. You can choose your bread, like a croissant or baguette, and load it up with toppings, including proteins and veggies. Split the sandwich with a friend or between lunch and dinner if you're on a small budget or not that hungry.

Colorful exterior of a restaurant with red umbrellas and a red sign reading, "Le Sandwicherie."

We think sushi rice and raw fish are a great idea from any reputable place. And Crazy Poke gets rave reviews for their poke bowls  and sushi burritos.

Smorgasburg Miami

If you're familiar with the famous food market in Brooklyn, NY, “Smorgasburg,” they have expanded nationwide in key cities like Los Angeles and Miami.

Every Saturday from noon to 7:00 pm, you'll find an eclectic mix of food vendors in an outdoor area of Wynwood, selling everything from Kombucha to lobster rolls, dumplings, milkshakes, bao buns, tacos, paella, and more.

Address: 2600 NW 2nd Avenue

1-800-Lucky

If you want to try a few things from a bunch of places and love Asian food served in a casual setting, this is the place for you.

This food hall has various restaurants, including food options like sushi, dumplings, bubble tea, and even ice cream.

4. Fun Dessert Things to Do in Wynwood

Night owl cookies.

If you absolutely love cookies, you must include a stop here on your fun things to do in Wynwood list!

Their sugary cookies are often served warm, and you can sit at cute sprinkle tables inside the shop. (How delectable they are reminded us of Gideon's cookies in Orlando .) Reviews proclaim they're the best cookies in Miami!

Ice Pops/Paletas

It would be usual for you to be craving “something cold” in the Miami heat. Morelia Gourmet Paletas serves Mexican ice pops made with 100% natural ingredients.

You can choose a pre-made pop or create your own flavor and topping combination on the spot. The company is named after the location in Mexico where the first paleta was believed to have been invented. And they now have several locations and shops within South Florida.

Stop at Nabati ice cream to beat the Florida heat! They're 100% plant-based, which is great if you're dairy-free.

The shop's owner and head chef, Ola Kayal, graduated from Switzerland’s Culinary Arts Academy. So we are  sure she knows a thing or two about great foods and desserts.

Another place to get ice cream is Wynwood's Dasher and Crank . Deemed the “Best Ice Cream in Florida,” they have plenty of flavors to choose from and ways to eat it, including in ice cream sandwich form. They also have a Matcha Cafe inside.

Instagram-Worthy Soft Serve

Have you heard of Japanese ice cream served in fish-shaped cake cones? Taiyaki NYC is famous for it. And they have a location in Wynwood, Miami!

Not only is it photo-worthy ice cream, but the flavors are hard to find elsewhere, and it tastes so good. It's difficult for me to find flavors like black sesame in the states otherwise. ( I fell in love with it in Japan .) But Taiyaki has it.

Note that this location of Taiyaki is a little kiosk/shipping container inside the 1-800 Lucky food hall area.

Coffee and Tea

If you want coffee, tea, or even wine and beer at a casual meet-up spot in Wynwood, check out Panther Coffee . Grab a pastry to go with your drink.

Giache Crepes is a great place if you have a sweet tooth or you're with someone who prefers something savory for a snack or dessert.

They offer sweet and savory crepes that they roll or stuff with ingredients, depending on your order. They also offer waffle pops!

The Salty Donut is a place that serves beautiful donuts. And let's face it…the donut craze isn't going away any time soon. They've been voted as a top donut place in the  country by many outlets (Thrillest, Zagats, Business Insider, etc.).

5. Shopping in Wynwood

There are several cute boutiques in the area if your version of fun things to do in Wynwood includes shopping! There are also shops to get your own piece of art to take home, in addition to more upscale galleries.

These include:

  • Clothing stores, like BASE and Marine Layer (very coastal-hip).
  • The Wynwood Shop: It's definitely worth stopping in. It's a boutique store that sells men and women's clothing and jewelry, but also things like art prints and enamel pins. They even sell Street Art Coloring Books!
  • And of course, the gift shop at Wynwood Walls. (Which is free to visit if Wynwood Walls is open.)

6. Drink Beer at a Local Brewery

There are three great options for craft beer in Wynwood, which is a solid amount for the size of the area…

J. Wakefield Brewing

If you're wondering where a Star Wars mural is in Wynwood, you'll find it at this brewery. This fun watering hole proudly displays a Star Wars theme inside its taproom, as well as a playful comic book vibe on its website.

They have a weekday happy hour from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, offering $1 off beers. They also often have food trucks on site.

Wynwood Brewing Company

A father and son duo started this craft brewery in Miami. They have 18 beers on tap in their Wynwood tasting room.

This local brewery has Latin and American roots (very Miami). Veza Sur has a beautiful indoor space that's pretty cozy and an outdoor patio that's dog friendly.

Moreover, they have a great happy hour and also offer brewery tours. If you’re hungry, this could be the best way to quench your thirst and appetite – their Peruvian food gets rave reviews.

Cerveceria La Tropical

What started as a Cuban brewery in the 19th century has made its way to Wynwood. The brewery, which has survived being exiled from its home country, has been passed down through the family from generation to generation.

But not without a fight! Manny Portuondo is the 5th generation owner who fought to bring the family company back to its glory after the business was taken, at gunpoint, during the Cuban Revolution.

Fast-forward to the 21st century, when Manny's passion project paid off! Heineken invested significant money to bring La Tropical to the Wynwood Arts District. And since 2020, we can all enjoy it.

They offer over a dozen beers on tap and a Cuban-inspired menu of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The brewery is closed on Mondays.

Cerveceria La Tropical Gives Back

Take a walk in their Jardine, and you'll see a beautifully landscaped paradise. This partnership with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has a philanthropic twist: $1 from every growler and brewery tour goes towards the One Million Orchid project , aiming to bring native orchids back to Florida.

7. Cycle Your Way Through Wynwood on a Bicycle Pub Crawl

If you have a group of people and you're looking for something fun and different to do through Wynwood – and you enjoy beer – sign up for this pub crawl tour .

It just so happens one of the fun things to do in Wynwood allows you to exercise, explore, and drink! You'll bicycle your way through the neighborhood on a contraption that can accommodate up to 15 people.

Don't worry if your legs tire of pedaling during this two-hour tour – you stop at bars and aren't pedaling the whole time. And, truthfully, you don't even have to pedal to make the vehicle move. The novelty of the experience is the most fun and important part.

8. Go to Wynwood Marketplace

This destination is a collection of food vendors in an outdoor food hall, of sorts, plus a stage for live music performances and an outdoor lounge bar area. There are also a few murals inside that are prime for Instagram photos, as well as vendors selling things like clothing.

Wynwood Marketplace entrance with a blue neon sign.

9. Safely Experience Handling Exotic Firearms at Lock & Load

Believe it or not, there is an indoor gun range in Wynwood, Miami. If you sign up to go to Lock & Load, you'll have one-on-one instructions from a firearms specialist who is a former military veteran.

What better way to learn the proper and safe way to handle an exotic firearm – including machine guns – and get a chance to shoot at a paper target. The machine gun experience lasts approximately one hour; you will certainly feel an adrenaline rush!

10. Make a Candle

At Candle Land Miami , you can create a candle to take home as a keepsake from your trip or a fun day out with friends. They have three locations in Florida, and its flagship location is in Wynwood.

You choose your vessel, then select your scent. You can add things like petals or sprinkles to the wax that you pour into the vessel with a wick in it, then wait for it to dry. Voila – you have a useful keepsake ready to take home!

Where to Park at Wynwood Walls

It’s not difficult to park in the area – simply find a nearby garage (which may be your best bet if it’s peak time) or find street parking.

Parking in Miami is around $3 an hour for street spots, which you can pay for via the “ PayByPhone “ parking app.

Street in Wynwood, Miami, known for its street art.

The best parking garage to aim to park in if your fun activity in Wynwood, Miami is walking around to see the murals is The Wynwood Garage. It's just under $10 for two hours – it's pretty much the same price as street parking in the area.

It's also very attractive and photo-worthy if you want to stop by to see it, even if you don't end up parking there.

Distance to Wynwood from Other Miami Locations

Don't let the fact that Miami is one “city” with many things to do deceive you. It's BIG, and you'll need a vehicle to get around in most instances.

For example, if you're flying into town from Miami International Airport, we recommend renting a car for your time in Miami.

Don't Postone Renting a Car!

Even if you need to pay for parking at your hotel and street parking throughout the city, it could be worth it for the freedom of having a car and not having to deal with the hassle of Uber (which is very often on “surge” rates).

We recommend Discover Cars for its ease of use, great options, and great customer service.

Below are the times it takes to drive from Miami's popular neighborhoods and local airports to the Wynwood Art District, without traffic, in a private car.

You can take buses to navigate the area if you rely on public transportation. In that case, plan for driving times that are double or triple what is listed below.

  • Downtown Miami : 15 minutes
  • Miami International Airport : 15 minutes
  • South Beach : 20 minutes
  • Key Biscayne : 30 minutes
  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport : 35 minutes
  • Key Largo : 1 hour 40 minutes
  • Key West : 3.5 hours

Fun Things to Do Nearby in Miami Design District and Little Havana

Tour the neighboring miami design district.

There are plenty of fun things to do in Wynwood. But if you're game to venture just 10 minutes from the streets of Wynwood, we recommend visiting the Design District of Miami. Why not make a complete day of your trip?

There are upscale shops here (think: Gucci, Christian Louboutin, Balenciaga, Creed) and a few places to eat or grab a coffee. The well-designed shopping center is worth a walk around.

You can also sign up for a tour of Miami's Design District , where you'll get a guided walk of Palm Court and enjoy generous food tastings.

Miami Design District is near Wynwood Walls and is a great thing to do if you're nearby. We spill the details on Sometimes Home travel blog.

We also recommend a visit to the Institute of Contemporary Art . Admission is free , however, reserving tickets in advance online ahead of time is recommended.

The parking garage across the street from there is the coolest we've ever seen (truly). And the art along the street where the museum is located (NE 41st Street) has some pretty noteworthy art above eye level as well.

Street parking in the Design District is pretty much the same cost as in Wynwood. We recommend valet parking because when you compare their one-time fee to several hours of street parking, they are nearly equal in cost.

If you don't want to valet your car and can't find street spots then try the garage, located across from the museum. (Simply put “Museum Garage, NE 41st Street, Miami, FL” in GPS.)

Miami Design District is near Wynwood Walls and is a great thing to do if you're nearby. We spill the details on Sometimes Home travel blog.

Enjoy Time in Little Havana

Another awesome neighborhood in Miami, which is south of Wynwood, is Little Havana . We had a lovely day there and felt the rhythm of Latin cultures through the vibrant music in the neighborhood bars, the delicious Cuban cuisine in the restaurants, and the street art in town.

You can sign up for this tour , which offers everything you could want in exploring the area: education about Cuban culture, a mojito and a snack, and seeing local landmarks!

There is plenty to do and see near Wynwood, Miami. Check out nearby Miami Design District and Little Havana, or go on a boat ride in Miami to see the coastline from another view.

Go on a Miami Boat Tour

Another fun thing to do in the Miami area is to take advantage of the water surrounding the city. Head out on a boat tour !

Tips When Touring the Wynwood Neighborhood

Prepare for hot weather.

Miami is HOT most of the year. Protect yourself from the heat and sunshine with these items to keep your body hydrated with water , eyes shielded from the sun with sunglasses , and the potential threat of bug bites affecting your day far, far away (with our favorite little tool, Bug Bite Thing ):

This is a popular spot for tourists so expect to contest with crowds. However, seeing as the neighborhood and the surrounding area have so many great things to do, hopefully, people will be spread out amongst the streets and Wynwood's attractions anyway, as everyone does their best to experience Miami.

Plan to Walk Around, Not Just Drive Around

It's an area where it's best to park then walk . Thus, wear comfy walking shoes .

Be Respectful (and Tag the Artists)

Respect the art and the people in Wynwood who worked hard to make it such an amazing attraction. The great thing about the murals is that almost all of them are tagged with the artist's Instagram account.

If you're posting a mural to Instagram, please take the extra few seconds to look up the artist . It's proper etiquette, and you wouldn't have the art piece to share with your social media followers if it wasn't for them creating it.

This is also a cool way to communicate with the artist if you wish. We tag every artist whenever possible to credit the creator. And it's common for us to get a note from the artist saying “Thank you!” or a repost.

Behind the Walls of Intercession Convent in Winter Season

Behind the Walls of Intercession Convent in Winter Season

View of the bell tower, church and roofs of monastic timber houses behind the fortified walls of Intercession convent (Pokrovsky convent) from the monastery meadow at the low bank of Kamenka River at the beginning of winter season. The main cathedral of the convent was built on its grounds in 1510-1518 and dedicated to the feast of Intercession of the Holy Virgin. Standalone tent-bell tower of the cathedral of Intercession was built in 3 years later, in 1515. At the end of 17th century, it was reconstructed and decorated with archway to connect with cathedral and tent-roof. The white stone walls and towers of the convent is a monument of fortified architecture of 16-18 centuries.

The first fortification stone wall to protect the convent of Intercession of the Theotokos in Suzdal appeared in the 16th century, but later (in the 18th century) it was rebuilt and renovated in the 20th century by architect A.D. Varganov. The oldest part of the wall with devoid decor tent-roof towers of the XVII century is located in the northern part of the monastery and forms a small closed courtyard. In the 18th century, the octagonal towers of the convent covered with tent-roof canopies were replaced with hemispherical domes to make it more elegant and picturesque.

Parking After Heavy Snowfall at Victory Park in Dark Morning

Looking for a free parking on one-way side street near Park Pobedy (Victory Park) metro station at Kutuzovsky Avenue in early morning after heavy snowfall in Moscow. Branches of trees lowered down under the ice and heavy snow. Very good lighting from old-style lampposts on the road in the dark winter morning.
