AC/DC Returns to NZ for Rock or Bust Tour
When you think of rock royalty, you think of just one band; the legendary ac/dc..
Angus, Brian, Cliff, Chris and Stevie are back and they are ready to rock New Zealand!
The announcement that AC/DC will return to the stage in December has sent fans into a tailspin. The Rock or Bust Tour will be one of the most-anticipated tours in recent memory with people lapping up the opportunity to see AC/DC live on stage.
The legendary rockers will perform at Western Springs Stadium in Auckland. Performance and ticket details will be released soon but in the meantime fans are encouraged to add AC/DC to their favourites in their My Ticketmaster accounts. This is the best way to ensure you will be first to hear all the details of the upcoming AC/DC Rock or Bust Tour. Click here to add AC/DC to your favourites.
AC/DC was formed by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young in 1973. Although born in Scotland, the brothers moved to Sydney in 1963 and ten years later one of the greatest rock bands of all time was formed and ready to take the world by storm.
AC/DC enjoyed quick success following their debut album High Voltage in 1975. Over the next few years the group followed up with popular albums, T.N.T., Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock and Powerage.
In 1979 AC/DC released their hugely popular album, Highway To Hell – their last with original singer Bon Scott, who died early the following year.
While many doubted AC/DC’s ability to continue without the charismatic Bon Scott, the group remained at the top following Brian Johnson’s arrival as lead singer in April 1980.
In July, AC/DC released Back in Black, an album that received popular and critical success and launched AC/DC as one of the best rock acts of all time both in Australia and all around the world.
Back in Black is considered one of the greatest rock albums in history. The album sold more than 22 million copies in the United States alone and is the fifth highest selling album in the USA ever.
AC/DC have a reputation for phenomenal live performances. Brian Johnson is the ultimate showman and the tireless Angus Young – dressed in his signature school uniform – has to be seen to be believed.
AC/DC last performed in New Zealand during the Black Ice World Tour in 2010. The tour was universally admired and saw hundreds of thousands of fans rocking out with the signature AC/DC devil horns.
The upcoming AC/DC tour promises to be every bit as amazing as previous tours with incredible staging and effects and of course the songs of AC/DC we all know and love so well.
If you are yet to see AC/DC live you cannot miss this opportunity. And if you have seen AC/DC live then you know how awesome the show will be!

AC/DC is rumored to be close to announcing a world stadium tour any day now. The tour will apparently include singer Brian Johnson, who was forced to leave the band mid-tour nearly four years ago due to a dangerous level of hearing loss. Australian 'Highway to Hell' rockers AC/DC are one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Brothers Angus and the late Malcolm Young of Australia formed the group in 1973. The initials AC/DC stands for "alternating current/direct current", which their older sister Margaret saw on a sewing machine. The brothers thought this name summed up their energy. They went on to be popularly known as 'Acca Dacca' in Australia. They're one of the five top-selling bands in American music history and has sold nearly 71 million albums in the U.S. Worldwide—they have sold more than 200 million albums. One of the group's best-loved works, Back In Black, has achieved RIAA 'Double Diamond' status for sales in excess of 22 million copies in the United States, making it America's fifth largest-selling album. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, 2003 and in 2004, AC/DC made it on the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, coming in at no.72. Late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott was honoured by some of his former bandmates as part of a 2018 ‘Bon But Not Forgotten’ tribute tour of New Zealand. Featuring former Acca Dacca members Simon Wright and Tony Currenti, the tour featured members of bands like The Angels and Electric Mary. The tour kicked off in early July (around the time of Scott’s birthday) and saw musicians like The Angels’ and Choirboys’ James Morley, guitarist Phil Emmanuel and Rusty from Electric Mary perform some of AC/DC’s biggest hits and deepest cuts. AC/DC to play Australia and New Zealand for Rock or Bust world tour
November sees the return of Australia’s biggest rock band with outdoor stadium shows around the country, but absent will be two key members
It’s been five years between drinks, but AC/DC are bringing their classic rock anthems and schoolboy stage antics back home for an Australian leg of their Rock or Bust world tour.
The tour will kick off in Sydney at Stadium Australia on 4 November, before heading to Brisbane (12 November), Adelaide (21 November), Perth (27 November) and their final stop in Melbourne on 6 December.
The tour will then head to New Zealand , playing Auckland (15 December) and Wellington (18 December).
The promoter, Garry Van Egmond, said to Fairfax that playing in Australia “matters a lot” to the band and that lead guitarist Angus Young, fought to keep the lowest tier of Australian ticket prices under $100. “Angus watches the tickets like a hawk,” said Van Egmond. “We could charge a lot more if we wanted, but he wants it to be affordable and he’s very sincere about it. He also doesn’t allow pre-sales.”
And while the average age of an AC/DC band member may be 63, there’s no sign of slowing down for a band now touring their 16th album in Europe, the US as well as Australasia. According to management 1.75m tickets were sold in just 24 hours when they went on sale in Europe.
A headlining performance at the Coachella Valley music and arts festival on Friday, and a second appearance on 17 April, will precipitate the beginning of their Rock or Bust world tour in Holland.
The tour will feature an amended line-up, after the guitarist, Malcolm Young, left the band in 2014 because of ill health. Young’s nephew, Stevie Young, will play in his place.
Another notable absence will be the drummer, Phil Rudd , who remains in New Zealand defending charges of threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. Chris Slade, a Welsh rock drummer, will resume his post having played in the band during the early 90s.
In February, shortly before taking to the Grammy awards stage for a rousing opening performance of Highway to Hell, Slade released a statement : “This is an amazing opportunity for me – after all most people don’t ever get to play with their favourite band once, let alone twice!”
AC/DC formed in 1973 when founding members and brothers, Angus and Malcolm Young, were teenagers, living in Sydney, Australia. Over the course of their four-decade career the band have sold more than 220m albums; their last release, Rock of Bust, in December, became the band’s fifth No 1 album in Australia.
The band were last seen playing in Australia and New Zealand in 2010, as part of the Black Ice world tour, which sold 750,000 tickets.

AC/DC Announce 2024 World Tour
The rock icons are returning to the road for the first time since 2016
UPDATED: February 16, 2024
Rock icons AC/DC are returning to the road next year.
Last October, AC/DC made their triumphant return to the stage after a seven year hiatus. The band performed after Judas Priest with previously retired bassist Cliff Williams and drummer Matt Laug sitting behind the kit. While they didn’t scratch any songs off this list , they did debut two tracks from their 2020 album, Power Up – “Demon Fire” and “Shot in the Dark.” The band’s seventeenth studio album, Power Up peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and topped the charts in several other countries around the world.
The rest of the set was filled with some of the band’s biggest hits, and several rare gems that haven’t seen the lights of a stage in decades.
AC/DC kicked off their set with their 1979 fan favorite, “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It).” It was the first time the band opened with the song in 20 years. From there, they launched into their massive hit, “Back in Black.” The played “Dog Eat Dog” for the first time with frontman Brian Johnson since 1996, and “Riff Raff” for the first time with Johnson on the mic since 2009. AC/DC played both songs back in 2016 when Axl Rose of fellow Power Trip performers Guns N’ Roses was filling in for Johnson on vocals. Johnson was forced to step away from the band while dealing with hearing loss. Axl played the final 22 shows of AC/DC’s Rock or Bust Tour.
AC/DC also pulled out “Stiff Upper Lip” for the first time since 2003. Other highlights included “Shot Down in Flames,” “Thunderstruck,” “Have a Drink on Me,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” “Shoot to Thrill,” “Rock ‘n’ Roll Train,” “Highway to Hell,” “Whole Lotta Rosie,” and many more.
This summer, AC/DC are returning to the road for the first since 2016. The massive run is a celebration of the hard rock hitmakers’ 50th anniversary, and their first time supporting their latest album on tour. The global trek begins with a run across Europe this summer, starting at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on 17 May. The Power Up Tour will see the group performing in Spain, Austria, Belgium, France, the UK, and more.
Due to overwhelming demand, second shows have been added in Seville, Spain, Dresden, Germany, and Hannover, Germany.
Check out the full tour itinerary below.
More dates around the world are expected to be announced very soon.
While bassist Cliff Williams has retired from touring, the band has confirmed that Chris Chaney (ex-Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morissette) will be joining them on tour. Another alumnus of Alanis’s band – drummer Matt Laug – will once again be performing with AC/DC on the upcoming run of dates. Laug made his debut with AC/DC at Power Trip back in October.
“We are thrilled to finally announce the Power Up European Tour,” AC/DC said. “Angus [Young], Brian [Johnson], Stevie [Young], and Matt [Laug] will be joined by Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff. The tour will see us play shows across Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France & Ireland this Summer. We can’t wait to see you all out there.”
AC/DC’s performance at Power Trip a few months ago saw the band take the stage with frontman Brian Johnson, lead guitarist Angus Young, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, bassist Cliff Williams, and drummer Matt Laug. In July of 2016, Williams announced that he would be retiring after the completion of the band’s Rock or Bust World Tour. He returned to the fold, however, in 2018 to record bass on the band’s new album, Power Up .
The confirmation of Laug’s involvement with the band for the Power Trip was most likely connected to legal issues stemming from original drummer Phil Rudd’s 2014 arrest. Rudd was charged with attempting to procure the murder of two men, according to New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty Police District representative Kim Perks at the time. He was also charged with threatening to kill, possession of cannabis, and possession of methamphetamine. A day after he was arrested, one of the charges for attempting to procure a murder was dropped. In April of 2015, Rudd pleaded guilty to the remaining charges at the Tauranga District Court (New Zealand). In July of 2015, he was sentenced to eight months of home detention plus a $120,000 USD fine.
Laug is a storied rock music drummer, having done stints with Alice Cooper, Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs, Slash’s Snakepit, and Alanis Morissette, as previously mentioned.
At the time of his arrest, Rudd had already completed recording drums for AC/DC’s sixteenth studio album, Rock or Bust , which came out just days later on November 28. Despite Rudd playing on the record, AC/DC recruited former Shogun drummer Bob Richards to fill in for Rudd in two music videos the band shot for the album amid Rudd’s ongoing legal issues at the time. In February of 2015, AC/DC recruited former drummer Chris Slade to play with them at the 57th Annual GRAMMY® Awards. Slade was a member of AC/DC from 1989-1994 and played drums on their 1990 album The Razor’s Edge . The album hit #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and contains some of the band’s biggest hits. To date, the disc has sold over 5 million copies in the U.S. alone. Slade also appears on the band’s 1992 live effort, AC/DC Live . Slade would then join the band for their massive Rock or Bust World Tour, which began on May 5 at the Gelredome in Arnhem, Netherlands.
While best known for his stints with AC/DC, Slade has also performed with the likes of Asia, Gary Numan, Manfred Man’s Earth Band, Terra Nova, Bloodstock, David Gilmore, Uriah Heep, Gary Moore, Tom Jones, The Firm, Damage Control, and others.
In 2020, AC/DC released their seventeenth studio album, Power Up . The record peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and topped the charts in several other countries around the world. Once again, Angus and Malcolm Young’s nephew Stevie Young, who took over rhythm guitar duties for Malcolm after he stepped away from the band in 2014 due to his declining health, played on the record. Malcolm Young passed away back in 2017.

AC/DC's Phil Rudd on his new life, new love, upcoming tour
Share this article
Former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd is launching a comeback just weeks after suffering a heart attack.
The Tauranga-based rocker says his band is heading to Europe in October -- and was doing a "Paul McCartney session" and hoping to hook up with some other rock legends, with a bigger tour of UK and Europe planned for next year.
Rudd also reveals today Wednesday in an exclusive interview with the Bay of Plenty Times that he has a new Rotorua partner and wants to help local young people with P addiction.
The upcoming trip comes after he needed an operation in Tauranga Hospital to fix a blocked artery.
''Yeah, I had a f**king heart attack, but I am good now, got a stent inside.''
Rudd, who turned 62 in May, said he was "ready to rock" and "life is good" and he was "fired up" after his brush with death a few weeks ago.
"I was just at home walking around at home, and I started feel, well just funny. You know how you can feel funny? I had a strange pain in my chest. So my housekeeper took me to the hospital, when they hooked me up and did all these tests turned out I had a big heart attack...my artery was all blocked up, and they said I had to stay in and have an operation."
The rocker was unfazed.
"I sneaked out to the shop to get some cigarettes, then I realised I had no car, so I walked home to get the Ferrari, and drove back to the hospital."
Rudd had a stent inserted via his arm.
"Weird because they shave your man parts, but they put it in your arm. All I have is a tiny scar in my wrist. And my hair has grown back too so I am all good, I am healthy and got so much colour in my cheeks."
Rudd is now looking forward and said he was hitting the road as his eight-month home detention following his sentencing in Tauranga District Court in July last year, and a further six months of post-release conditions have expired.
He last year admitted to charges of threatening to kill an employee, and for 91g of cannabis and 0.478g of methamphetamine found in his home during a police raid last year.
But he is putting all that behind him and re-releasing Head Job, his 11-track solo album with Kiwi musicians Allan Badger of Rotorua and Geoffrey Martin of Auckland.
Support of family, friends and fans helped get him through the last couple of years, he said.
"I made mistakes, but I am really good now. Life is good. I'm positive and healthy. I really appreciate the support of the fans around the world, which kept me going through, you know, some of the dark times, and I cannot wait to play the music for them, it is going to rock."
Rudd last Friday signed an international deal with Simon Britton and Alan "Big Al" Bellman, of London-based record company Wave 365 Media. In his various roles as producer and A and R director, Britton has worked with artists including Julian Lennon, David Gray, Jimmy Cliff, Sting, Talib Kweli & Run DMC.
Britton told the Bay of Plenty Times Rudd would visit the UK and Europe in October and visit Sir Paul McCartney's charity, the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, to give a masterclass to students.
A tour is planned in the UK and Europe in 2017 in which Britton said Rudd and his band would likely play at all the key European festivals in 2017.
Rudd said he would not rule out a return to AC/DC but said for now he was focusing on his own music with "Badge and Spence.''
"If Angus wanted me to play then that is up to him... but I don't really want to play with Axl Rose... I don't really rate him."
"Geoffrey [Spencer] is a great guitarist, just as good as Malcolm, better than if you ask me."
Rudd played drums on AC/DC's 17th studio album Rock or Bust and recorded it together with the band in Vancouver, Canada, but his Tauranga arrest ended his chances of going on the Rock or Bust world tour. Chris Slade replaced him and the band finished the European leg of the tour in June with Guns N' Roses front man Axl Rose roped in when vocalist Brian Johnson had to give up the tour in April due to hearing loss.
Rudd also revealed he was in a new relationship.
"I am real good, doing really well and positive, happy, got a new girlfriend, family is good".
Rudd's new love is Rotorua-based fashion, portrait and wedding photographer Michelle Cutelli.
"Michelle is great with the girls. She lives in Rotorua but comes over at the weekends. We have been friends for around 30 years but just got it together. And it's good."
Cutelli told the Bay of Plenty Times they were very happy,
"We used to date in the early 80s when Phil first came to New Zealand, and now we have got together again."
Rudd took his daughters to New Zealand fashion week along with Michelle.
Daughter Tuesday, who is a model, got to walk on the catwalk for Rotorua fashion designer Kharl WiRepa whose head photographer was Cutelli. Cutelli said,
"I asked Tuesday if she would like to model in NZFW...she is exquisitely beautiful in a 1940s way. I I posted the pics to Kharl. I did not give him any names. 'To glam to give a damn'. Kharl said yes...Kharl only found out the name days before the show."
Rudd was proud of his daughter on the catwalk.
"She did brilliantly, she just got up there and did it. Michelle introduced her to some fashion designers... I was at the show, fashion week, that's hectic, so many women, nearly had another f**king heart attack."
Rudd is also putting up his hand to help with the Bay's methamphetamine epidemic, offering to join Project Meth, a new trust being set up a former drug squad cop to talk about meth in schools across New Zealand, starting in the Bay.
Rudd said he was keen to help out in a new charitable trust called Project Meth, which former drug squad cop Dale Kirk was starting.
Mount-based Kirk wants to initiate a roll out of workshops and talks on methamphetamine in high schools, starting in the Bay, and Rudd told the Bay of Plenty Times he wanted to help.
"There is a big problem and you do need to talk to the young people, but if you make it a voluntary thing, only the straight kids come. I think something in schools that all the kids attend would be good. I would like to help where I can."
I am real good, doing really well and positive, happy, got a new girlfriend, family is good. Phil Rudd

Sat. 16 nov. 1991 : auckland, new zealand (mount smart stadium).
Coming soon.
Fan reviews:
By Seaweed, Taranaki New Zealand : This was my first AC/DC concert, I was only 19, and there had been a stabbing and some rioting at the Wellington concert, so to tell you the truth I was a bit scared, being a skinny white boy, with a "take no shit" attitude. But all was good. the vibe was awesome. We were running slightly late as we got to caught up in the pre-concert prime up, so as we're running down this passage way we hear ahh ahh ahh ahhhhh, (thats me trying to type the beginning of thunder struck) So we burst on to the field right up the front at the side of the stage, just in time to mosh our way to the middle of the stage for the 1st song. It just got better and better, the bells, the cannon, awesome is the only word I can use to describe it. (and I don't use that word lightly) I can't wait to see them again in NZ on the 2010 tour, I've even started to grow a mullet and went and bought a pair of skin tight black jeans... I can't wait..

The Pretty Reckless to Support AC/DC on 2024 PWR Up European Tour
Taylor Momsen and the Pretty Reckless will support AC/DC on the "Hells Bells" band's upcoming 2024 European tour . The news was announced on Monday morning (March 25) when AC/DC shared a poster for their first Euro swing in eight years, which will feature the "Only Love Can Save Me Now" band serving as the only opener on all 24 dates of the stadium outing slated to kick off on May 17 at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
"It's f–king AC/DC. That's it," the band says when asked to describe their excitement about hitting the road with the "Dirty Deeds" icons.
AC/DC's first European tour in nearly a decade will find the band playing with a line-up featuring singer Brian Johnson, guitarist Angus Young, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug and Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney replacing longtime bassist Cliff Williams; Williams retired from the band at the conclusion of their 2016 Rock or Bust tour, returning to the fold briefly for the 2020 Power Up album. Johnson was temporarily replaced by Guns ‘N Roses singer Axl Rose in 2016 due to Johnson's battle with hearing loss issues.
