ARMENIA E-VISA

Armenia e-Visa Sample

Validity of Armenia e-Visa

21-day e-Visas are valid for 90 days. Even though the e-Visa will be valid for 90 days, you can only stay a maximum of 21 days in Armenia.

120-day e-Visas are valid for 180 days. You can only stay a maximum of 120 days in Armenia.

When to apply for e-Visa

You can apply for an e-Visa as early as 3-months before your trip. Even though E-Visa processing takes only 3 working days, I suggest applying at least 2 weeks prior to your trip. That way, if your e-Visa is denied, you will have enough time to reapply.

How long can you stay in Armenia

With a 21-day e-Visa, you can stay up to 21 days in Armenia.  Similarly, with a 120-day e-Visa, you can stay up to 120 days in Armenia.

IMPORTANT Keep in mind that the immigration officers at the airport will not mark the exit date in your passport. You will have to calculate that yourself. To be on the safe side, consider the day of entry as the 1st day and make sure to leave Armenia by the 21st day or the 120th day depending on the visa you hold.

E-Visa Application procedure

E-Visa application is quite simple and takes about 15 minutes to complete. The entire process is online and it only takes about 3 working days for the result.

NOTE The passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date of departure from Armenia. It must have at least 2 blank pages in it.

Photo requirements

The digital photograph must meet the following specifications

  • Must be in color with white/light background
  • Must show complete face without accessories
  • Formats allowed are JPG, PNG or BMP only
  • Maximum dimensions allowed is 6000 x 6000 pixels
  • Maximum allowed file size is 6MB

The visa fee is dependent on whether you are applying for a 21-day visa or 120-day visa.

  • 21-day e-Visa fee: $6 USD
  • 120-day e-Visa fee: $31 USD

Processing time

The e-Visa processing time is 3 working days.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE Even though the official processing time is 3 working days, the actual processing time is 1-5 working days. Make sure you apply for your e-Visa at least 2 weeks prior to your travel to Armenia. In case of refusal, you will have enough time to re-apply.

Application tracking

You can track your application status from the e-Visa check application status page using your Application ID. Your application can have any of the 3 statuses.

Priority visa service

Unfortunately, there is no priority visa processing. The visa process usually takes 3 working days and in some cases up to 5 working days. So apply at least 2 weeks prior to your trip.

Customer service

In case of questions on your visa status, you can contact the visa department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Yerevan at their email and phone numbers.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE In my experience, it’s difficult to get hold of some one at the visa department by phone or email. If you have any questions, your best bet is to search on the internet. In case of visa refusal, your best option is to reapply.

ARMENIA VISA FROM THE EMBASSY

Armenia Tourist Visa from Embassy

If you are not eligible for Visa on Arrival (VOA) or e-Visa, you will need an invitation to apply for the visa at the nearest Armenian embassy or consulate.

If the inviting party is an organization, they must submit the physical invitation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Armenia prior to applying for the visa at the embassy.

If the inviting party is an individual, they must submit the physical invitation at the Passport and Visa Department of the Police in Yerevan, Armenia.

ENTRY AND EXIT PROCEDURE AT THE AIRPORT

Entering armenia by air at yerevan international airport.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE The immigration officer at the airport did not ask for anything other than my passport and e-Visa copy.

Visa Requirements to Visit Armenia for International Visitors

Visa Requirements to Visit Armenia for International Visitors

The laws and rules accepted in the world are continually evolving. Despite various limits, the world continues to live as before, in accordance with anti-epidemic rules and new legislation. These days the human beings want to live as they used to: travel extensively, enjoy life, and at the same time, stay safe! Because of the limits caused by Covid 19, even the most professional travelers immediately face serious issues. In addition, inexperienced tourists sometimes have exaggerated concerns about mixed-up documentation and visa issues.

In such a confusing environment, many people are worried. The travelers have no idea where to start from, where to go, or who to turn to. That’s why I am here to define the process. In the present article, you will learn everything about processing international visas and easily get your e-Visa as straightforward and stress-free as possible.

Where to Start From

First of all, I would like to encourage the destination you have chosen. It’s a wonderful one to visit. Nowadays, everything is changed and improved very fast and efficiently. Yet, all those improvements and changes are presented to increase public awareness and make sure that there is no need to worry. You just need to obtain and organize the necessary documents and then focus on your trip. Of course, this process should be planned in detail. Do not forget to check out and follow the guidelines to find more info .

Visa Requirements for Armenia

It is practically impossible to make long efforts or to fail if everything is legal and there is no violation of the pandemic rules. In case you want to learn more about the visa requirements for visiting Armenia , what country citizens can do it with or without a visa, or similar details, you should check out and find more on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. There you may also get familiar with the list of countries with a visa-free regime to visit Armenia.

By the way, nationals of foreign countries who have a visa-free regime may stay in the territory of the Republic of Armenia for a maximum of 180 days per year.

If you are already familiar with the list of countries the residents of which don’t need a visa to visit Armenia, I should put your focus to the point that in any other circumstances, regardless of the visitor’s national passport, a visa is necessary to visit Armenia.

What about an E-Visa?

In the current digital age of advanced technologies, it is even possible to get an online visa just within a few minutes. You just need to complete a multi-question online application. The e-visa offers travelers 2 options: to stay in Armenia for either 21 or 120 days, depending on the traveler's preferences and needs.

An online visa is very convenient for tourists if, of course, they want to visit Armenia for a short period such as for business purposes, within the framework of an event, medical treatment, participation in short-term courses, and so on.

Therefore, when it comes to long period visits or the purpose is different, all you have to do is just contact the nearest Armenian consulate or embassy to get familiar with further information.

So, How to Get an eVisa for Armenia?

How fast is it possible to manage this process for everyone? What documents are required and how to speed up the visa process if you do not have time to constantly get into trouble? Let me share the list of the documents required.

Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

You need a valid passport to enter Armenia . U.S. citizens are allowed visa-free entry to Armenia for up to 180 days per year. For visits of longer than 180 days, you must apply for a residency permit through the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Visit the website of the  Embassy of Armenia  for the most current visa information.

  • Armenian law requires that Armenian citizens, including dual nationals, enter and depart Armenia on Armenian passports . Even if you naturalized in the United States,  the Government of Armenia may still consider you an Armenian citizen . Children born in the United States to two Armenian citizens may also be considered Armenian citizens. Please read the information about Armenian citizenship at the website of the  Embassy of Armenia  and also review the Dual Nationality information in the “Local Laws and Special Circumstances” section below.
  • If you possess an Armenian “special passport” (a residency permit), you still need a valid U.S. passport to enter Armenia. Border guards have refused to admit U.S. citizens carrying “special passports.” Please visit the  Embassy of Armenia  website for further details.

Borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan : Land borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan  remain closed  and are patrolled by armed troops. There are intermittent armed hostilities on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.

Border with Iran: See the  Iran travel advisory. The Department of State continues to warn U.S. citizens against all travel to Iran  due to arbitrary arrest and detention of U.S. citizens. The Department of State maintains its  “Do Not Travel”  advisory, noting the “very high risk of arrest and detention of U.S. citizens in Iran, particularly U.S.-Iranian dual nationals.”

Russian Arrest Warrants: Armenia routinely shares information about foreign visitors with Russian law enforcement and security services.  U.S. citizens may be detained by Armenian authorities upon entry or exit based on Russia law enforcement or security service information.  Former and current U.S. government and military personnel with prior travel to Russia may face increased scrutiny.

Traveling Through Europe: While Armenia is not located in the Schengen area, many flights to Armenia originate in that area of Europe. If you are planning to visit or travel through European countries, you should be familiar with the requirements of the Schengen Agreement.

  • Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay if you plan on transiting a Schengen country.   Review our U.S. Travelers in Europe page .
  • You will need sufficient proof of funds and a return plane ticket.

HIV/AIDS Entry Restrictions : The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to or foreign residents of Armenia.

Find information on  dual nationality ,  prevention of international child abduction  and  customs regulations  on our websites.

Safety and Security

Terrorism: Terrorist groups and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad. Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack – including knives, firearms, and vehicles – to more effectively target crowds. Frequently, their aim is unprotected or vulnerable targets, such as:

  • High-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)
  • Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists
  • Places of worship
  • Shopping malls and markets
  • Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and scheduled commercial flights)

Natural Disasters : Armenia is prone to earthquakes and landslides.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Area and Conflict :

Following armed hostilities in the fall of 2020 and fall of 2023, Azerbaijan took control of Nagorno-Karabakh. Further military activity could occur in the region.

Crime: Crime is relatively low, and violent crime is infrequent. When police are called they routinely show up; however, they generally do not speak English. Vehicle break-ins  and  theft  are rare but are the most common crimes. Police indicate that there is a criminal group in Yerevan that targets foreigners and burglarizes rented apartments when the victims are away.

  • Matters involving  commercial and investment disputes  can take months or years to resolve as they work their way through the civil courts. The U.S.-Armenia Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) provides that in the event of a dispute between a U.S. investor and the Republic of Armenia, the investor may take the case to international arbitration.
  • Credit card fraud and ATM card skimming occurs . See the  Department of State  and  FBI  webpages for information on scams.

Demonstrations occur frequently. They may take place in response to political or economic issues, on politically significant holidays, and during international events.

  • Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly become violent.
  • Avoid areas around protests and demonstrations.
  • Check local media for updates and traffic advisories.

International Financial Scams: See the  Department of State and the  FBI pages for information.

Victims of Crime : U.S. citizen victims of sexual assault should first contact the  U.S. Embassy  at (+374) 10-494-585 during business hours and (+ 374) 10-494-444 after hours.

Report crimes and requests for emergency services to local authorities by  dialing 911 . English speaking operators are available. Also contact the U.S. Embassy to report your situation.

Remember that local authorities are responsible for investigating and prosecuting the crime .

See our webpage on  help for U.S. victims of crime overseas .

Domestic Violence : U.S. citizen victims of domestic violence may contact the Embassy for assistance. Local resources for victims of domestic violence include shelters, medical assistance, and legal aid. Victims of domestic violence may contact the Women’s Rights Center at + (374) 10-542-828 or (0800) 80-850, 24 hours a day. In cases of sexual violence or domestic violence, victims may contact the Women’s Resource Center at + (374) 077-991-280 and (0800) 01-280, from 9:00 AM to midnight.

Tourism: The tourism industry is unevenly regulated, and safety inspections for equipment and facilities do not commonly occur. Hazardous areas/activities are not always identified with appropriate signage, and staff may not be trained or certified either by the host government or by recognized authorities in the field. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is typically available only in/near major cities. First responders may be unable to access areas at a distance from major cities to provide urgent medical treatment. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance. See our webpage for more information on insurance providers for overseas coverage .

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties: You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned. Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities prior to practicing or operating a business.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the United States, regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on crimes against minors abroad and the Department of Justice website.

Please review the State Department’s page on  Arrests or Detention of U.S Citizens Abroad.   In addition, many people accused of crimes are held in local prisons in pretrial detention for between two and twelve months with the possibility of posting bail while waiting for a court hearing.

Arrest Notification: If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately . See our webpage for further information.

  • Possession, trafficking, or the uses of drugs, including marijuana, are illegal . A prescription for  medical marijuana  will not protect you from prosecution. If you are arrested for a drug offense, you could face detention during the investigation and a prison sentence after conviction.
  • Electronic cigarettes and related paraphernalia may be perceived as drug related.
  • Armenia does not allow the import of various psychotropic drugs. Please review Armenia’s rules on medication at the websites for  customs  and for  health .

Customs and Exports :

  • Local officials may occasionally seek bribes to perform basic duties.
  • Customs authorities may enforce regulations concerning the import/export of items like firearms, pornography, and communications equipment. Please refer to the Armenian Customs Service for further information.
  • The export of items of historical value, such as paintings, carpets, and old books, requires advanced authorization from the Armenian Ministry of Culture . Contact the Embassy of Armenia for further information.

Counterfeit and Pirated Goods : Although counterfeit and pirated goods are prevalent in many countries, they may still be illegal according to local laws. LGBTQI+ Travelers:  There are  no antidiscrimination laws protecting  lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI+) individuals in Armenia. There are  no hate crime laws  or other criminal judicial mechanisms to aid in the prosecution of crimes against LGBTQI+ persons. Individuals face the potential of discrimination and harassment by state and private actors. The Department of State’s Human Rights Report documents that LGBTQI+ persons experienced physical violence, threats of violence, blackmail, and harassment. Police were unresponsive to reports of abuse against LGBTQI+ individuals and at times, themselves mistreated LGBTQI+ persons.

See the  LGBTQI+ travel information  page and section six of the  Human Rights Report  for further details.

Travelers Who Require Accessibility Assistance: Although Armenia signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2007, Armenian authorities have yet to enforce it. Facilities with accommodations for individuals with disabilities are rare and, in rural areas, usually nonexistent.

Students: See our Students Abroad page and FBI travel tips .

Women Travelers: Informal taxis or mini buses pose threats to people unfamiliar with local conditions, especially to women traveling alone. There have been occasional reports of taxi drivers sexually harassing single, female travelers. See our travel tips for  women travelers .

Outside major cities, medical facilities in Armenia are limited. The U.S. Embassy maintains a list of  English-speaking doctors. Elderly travelers  and those with  existing health problems  may be at risk from  inadequate medical facilities .

For emergency services in Armenia, dial 911.

Visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for more information about Resources for Travelers regarding specific issues in Armenia.

The risk of diarrheal disease is high throughout Armenia. Food and water precautions are recommended. Additionally, cases of  brucellosis  from consuming unpasteurized dairy products have been reported.

We do not pay medical bills. Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas . Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance

  • Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See our webpage for more information on insurance coverage overseas. • We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Vaccinations: Be up-to-date on all vaccinations recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Air Quality: The air quality varies considerably and fluctuates with the seasons in Armenia. It is typically at its worst in the winter, with smog and particulate pollution in or near cities. Consider the impact air pollution may have on you and consult your doctor before traveling if necessary.

Visit AirNow  for information on air quality at U.S. Embassies and Consulates.

Health facilities in general

  • Ambulance services are widely available, but training and availability of emergency responders may be below U.S. standards.
  • Adequate health facilities are available in Yerevan and other major cities, but health care in rural areas may be below U.S. standards.
  • Medical staff may speak little or no English.
  • Medical emergency services at Armenian airports are not on par with U.S. airports.
  • Psychological and psychiatric services are limited, even in the larger cities, with hospital-based care only available through government institutions

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety:   The information below is provided for general reference only. Road conditions in Armenia differ significantly from those in the United States. Exercise caution when driving in Armenia. Reckless driving is common. Drivers frequently ignore traffic laws.

  • Avoid traveling at night  due to poor road conditions and limited emergency response resources. Pedestrians often cross dark streets away from designated pedestrian crossings while wearing dark clothing. U.S. Embassy employees are prohibited from driving at night outside the city limits of Yerevan.
  • Yield to aggressive drivers  to reduce your risk of being a victim of aggression. Police may seek bribes during traffic stops.
  • Winter travel can be hazardous, especially in mountainous areas.
  • Practice defensive driving and watch out for  drunk drivers , especially on the weekends.
  • Primary roads  are frequently in poor condition with stretches of missing pavement and large potholes. Some roads shown as primary roads on maps are unpaved and can narrow to one lane. Maps may be inaccurate.
  • Secondary roads  are normally in poor condition and are often unpaved. Roads may not have signs. Police and emergency medical services may take a long time to reach remote regions.
  • Gasoline quality ranges from good, at reliable stations in cities, to very poor. Do not buy gasoline and other fuels sold out of jars, barrels, and trucks by roadside merchants.
  • Drivers licenses from the United States are not valid for driving in Armenia.  For more information, please visit this website .
  • Exercise caution on roads near the border with Azerbaijan. Be aware that some portions of the road may cross international boundaries without notice. Roads may be controlled by checkpoints or closed to travelers without notice.

Traffic Laws: In case of an accident, all vehicles must remain in place and stay until the arrival of the police. Tourists should always carry a copy of their passport.

Driving regulations are often ignored by drivers, and, as a result, accidents are common. The driving culture is aggressive. Pedestrians and bicycles may not be granted the right of way.

Public Transportation: Public transportation, while inexpensive, may be unreliable and uncomfortable. Sexual assaults have been reported on public transportation. Minibuses are dangerous, overcrowded, poorly maintained, lack seatbelts, and are frequently involved in accidents. Traveling by local unregistered taxis without meters can also prove difficult if a price is not negotiated ahead of time.

See our Road Safety page for more information. Visit the website of Armenia’s national tourist office website and national authority responsible for road safety.

Aviation Safety Oversight: As there is no direct commercial air service to the United States by carriers registered in Armenia, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not assessed the government of Armenia’s Civil Aviation Authority for compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation safety standards. Further information may be found on the  FAA’s safety assessment page .

Visa for Armenia

Armenia Entry Requirements

  • Evisa.Express
  • Armenia e-Visa Application
  • Entry Requirements

Armenia Entry Requirements specify all the rules for travelers who plan to visit Armenia, including types of necessary documents they must obtain prior to departure. Among the most essential documents that the majority of travelers must have to enter Armenia without any issues are a valid passport and a visa. The traveler's passport cannot expire for a minimum of 6 months from the date of planned arrival in the country.

The Armenia visa policy determines what type of visa is applicable to a particular traveler, depending on their nationality, travel purpose, and intended length of stay in Armenia.

Nationals of many countries in the world may use the electronic visa system and apply for an e-Visa without visiting the Armenian Embassy whatsoever. The Armenia e-Visa covers short-term stays and may be used mainly for tourism purposes, and its holder is not permitted to live or work in the country.

Nationals of Samoa, as well as Saint Kitts and Nevis, may obtain a visa issued upon arrival in Armenia, which is a visa granted only for short-term purposes.

While some countries can obtain VoA or e-Visa, Armenia still requires particular citizens to book an Embassy appointment and complete all visa procedures in person. Getting a visa in a traditional way is also necessary for all travelers planning to live and/or work in Armenia. For such purposes, they will need to obtain a relevant visa or permit at a diplomatic mission in person.

Travelers from around 50 different countries can also enjoy visa-free entry, which means that they only need to have a valid passport to travel to Armenia. Nevertheless, visa-exempt travel is allowed only for a limited time and does not include working purposes.

During the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Armenia introduced some additional entry restrictions, which have already been lifted. Starting from May 2022, travelers arriving in Armenia no longer need to submit vaccination certificates or negative PCR test results. The same entry requirements apply both to vaccinated and non-vaccinated travelers.

Please note that the following requirements are subject to rapid change. Before visiting Armenia, make sure to familiarize yourself with the recent up-to-date entry rules to ensure smooth access to the country.

Who can enter Armenia?

Armenia allows entry for all international travelers regardless of the Covid-19 vaccination status.

All travelers should, however, exercise extreme caution when traveling internationally and be aware of the constantly changing restrictions that may be imposed in their destination country anytime.

Traveling to Armenia

The Armenian borders remain open to international travel. Foreign arrivals may enter Armenia both by land and air.

All travelers planning to visit Armenia must hold a valid passport. Depending on the nationality and planned duration of stay, they may also need to obtain a visa.

Despite the still-ongoing pandemic, the Armenian authorities no longer maintain coronavirus restrictions in the country. Arrivals no longer need to provide any covid-related documents such as negative PCR or antigen tests or valid vaccination certificates.

Please, however, note that some airlines may still keep their own rules and restrictions. All passengers should directly contact their airlines for reliable and precise information before travel.

Entry Rules for Children

There are no specific requirements for children traveling to Armenia. All underage travelers should follow the same rules applicable to adult travelers.

Parents or legal guardians should be responsible for obtaining all the required documents, including a visa, on behalf of underage travel companions.

Transit through Armenia

Armenia did not establish specific rules for transit passengers. Nevertheless, depending on the country of your final destination, there may be certain requirements implemented by the country's government. Make sure to check them and also find out the rules of the airline you will be flying with.

Visa requirements

Visa-exempt countries.

Armenia allows nationals of around 50 countries (listed below) to arrive for a short-term stay without a visa. These travelers can visit Armenia for tourism-related activities and a number of other travel purposes, excluding working and/or living. The Armenian Government introduced the e-Visa system, which significantly speeds up and facilitates obtaining a visa for travelers from a number of countries. There are two types of electronic visas that one may obtain for Armenia, i.e., a single-entry visit visa for a stay of either 21 days or 120 days. The validity of the first one is 3 months, while the latest one remains valid for 6 months.

Please note that e-Visa is accepted only at certain entry points. Check here for more details.

Armenia Embassy or Consular Visa

All nationals of the countries not classified as eligible for e-Visa, as well as those who plan to visit Armenia for long-term stays, work, or living purposes, must obtain a regular visa in a traditional way. For this purpose, they will need to book an Embassy appointment and provide certain supporting documents. The required documents may vary depending on the particular travel reason, planned length of stay, and the applicant's nationality.

Since the embassy or consular visa application may take several weeks, one should remember to start the process well in advance of the intended travel. Contact the nearest Armenian Embassy for more information.

Visa on Arrival

Armenia offers the visa-on-arrival facility to the nationals of two countries:

  • Saint Kitts and Nevis

Travelers from other countries need to obtain a visa for Armenia either by applying online or visiting the nearest Armenian diplomatic mission.

A visa on arrival is issued for short-term stays at border control once the traveler arrives in the country. The VoA facility is offered only at certain entry points, including:

  • Zvartnots and Shirak International Airports

Railway Stations

  • Bagratashen, Tavush Province (border with Georgia)
  • Bavra, Shirak Province (border with Georgia)
  • Meghri, Syunik Province (border with Iran)
  • Gogavan, Lori Province (border with Georgia)

Obtaining a visa on arrival is a time-consuming procedure. All travelers who are eligible for e-Visa or can obtain a visa prior to departure are highly recommended to do it to avoid standing in long lines upon arrival in Armenia.

Important: The entry points issuing visas on arrival are also the same and the only ports that accept Armenian electronic visas.

Health Declaration

At the moment, travelers do not need to complete any pre-departure health declaration forms.

Travel Insurance

The Armenian Government made it mandatory to purchase travel medical insurance before arriving in the country. Make sure that your insurance covers Covid-19, as well as any other possible medical needs that may arise during your entire stay in Armenia.
