Chic Airport Outfits for Winter

When I’m traveling, I want to look stylish and put-together while also staying comfortable. This is especially true in the cold winter months when I need to make sure my airport outfit is cozy enough to keep me warm through every part of my travel day.

I know how hectic and stressful getting ready for a trip is, but creating fashionable yet functional winter travel outfits doesn’t have to be. Ahead, you’ll find my list of winter airport outfits that are classy and cozy.

What should I wear for a long flight in winter?

When you have a long flight ahead of you, comfort is key! If you’re traveling in the winter, you’ll also want to make sure your travel outfit is warm and features removable layers. Try these pieces:

  • Sweatpants or knit joggers
  • Sweatshirt or knit sweater
  • Matching sets in cozy fabrics
  • Puffer vests
  • Long cardigan

Comfy Winter Airport Outfits

These comfy looks are effortless, easy to recreate, and guaranteed to make you feel stylish. The best part? All of these airport outfits are foolproof for winter, meaning they’ll keep you warm and cozy as you travel!

Puffer Vest + Sweatshirt

Christal wearing black leggings, a tan sweatshirt and a black puffer vest in the airport.

get the look:

This is one of my favorite winter travel outfit formulas. It’s especially great when I’m heading somewhere warmer and need removable layers that aren’t too bulky.

I think the sweatshirt and puffer vest combination looks sporty and classic, especially when paired with my Lululemon black leggings , Anine Bing baseball cap , and Samba sneakers . I’ve also thrown on my Everywhere Fleece belt bag , which is the perfect travel accessory for any comfy winter airport outfit.

Joggers + Wool Bomber

Christal wearing black joggers, a grey sweatshirt, a grey shacket and sneakers at the airport.

Another one of my favorite ways to dress up a winter comfy airport outfit is to pair my cozy Lululemon fleece joggers with a bomber jacket . Bomber jackets have been trending this year and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Here, I’ve styled the bomber jacket with practical sneakers, my fave Anine Bing sweatshirt , and a baseball cap . I’ve also added my Quince leather pouch bag as a stylish and practical hands-free accessory for my passport and essentials.

Cropped Vest + Leggings

Graphic of a winter airport outfit including a black sweater, black leggings, black sneakers and a tan puffer vest.

This chic yet comfy cropped puffer vest and leggings look is next on my list of airport outfits for winter. In my experience, you can never go wrong with wearing a pair of nice black leggings to the airport!

A chic, neutral-toned cropped puffer vest is the perfect piece to pair with an Everlane black turtleneck since it adds an ultra-cozy layer that isn’t too bulky for packing or sitting on the plane.

I finished this winter airport outfit with comfortable Samba sneakers and everyday gold jewelry to elevate the look.

Matching Sweatsuit

Woman wearing a tan matching lounge set with a tan coat and sneakers at the airport.

I’m partial to an all-neutral outfit. I think they always look chic and elevated, whether you’re heading to the airport or strolling around town.

In this comfy winter airport outfit, Lizzy has gone for a matching beige sweat set that gives mega cozy vibes. She’s styled it with a long coat and baseball hat in similar tones to keep the look cohesive.

I love the creamy beige colors in this travel look, but you could create a similar outfit by swapping out the beige for ivory, gray, black, or navy.

Add a Graphic Sweatshirt

Woman wearing black sweat pants and a vogue sweatshirt with high top sneakers in the airport.

In my opinion, you don’t have to ditch sweatshirts in order to create cute airport outfits. Logo or graphic sweatshirts (like this Vogue one ) are fun and stylish but still comfortable. They’re also practical when traveling to warmer destinations where you won’t need many heavy layers.

I’d pair it with comfy trousers, sweatpants, or leggings and add chic sunglasses for a casual, cool winter travel outfit.

A Cozy Cardigan

Woman wearing grey sweatpants, a pink cropped top and a pink cardigan in the airport.

While most of my winter airport outfits are neutral, I love this pop of color that makes this winter travel outfit more exciting. I love how @jenniferxlauren pairs comfy grey sweatpants and New Balance sneakers with a more girly cropped top and a pink knit cardigan.

I think this winter comfy airport outfit would be ideal when flying into a warm climate since you can easily take the cardigan off when you land.

Classy Airport Outfits for Winter

Below are some of my favorite airport outfits for winter. They dress up a basic leggings or sweatpants outfit with elevated pieces.

Casual chic jeans outfit

Graphic of a winter airport outfit including jeans, a striped sweater, a navy coat and sneakers.

Jeans are a must-pack item when traveling, especially in the winter! Since they tend to take up a lot of room in your suitcase, it’s never a bad idea to wear them on the plane, as long as they’re comfortable .

For a classy airport outfit in winter, try a pair of relaxed denim jeans, like these Citizens of Humanity Ayla jeans . A looser fit is key for feeling comfortable on the plane and walking around, in my opinion.

Style your jeans with other winter fashion staples like a striped sweater , long wool coat , and cashmere scarf that will come in handy while traveling in cold weather.

Layered Denim Jacket

Christal wearing black leggings, a white t-shirt, a denim jacket and a black puffer vest with sneakers at the airport.

An oversized denim jacket is a fabulous choice to pair with leggings or other pants when you want a comfy but cute airport outfit.

To keep this cozy chic , I’ve styled a comfy sweatshirt underneath my denim jacket and layered a black puffer vest on top.  My trusty leather pouch looks expensive and classy, but it’s also practical for keeping my travel necessities at arm’s reach.

Sweater Dress + Sneakers

Graphic of a winter airport outfit including a white sweater dress, a white coat, sneakers and a tan scarf.

In my opinion, a sweater dress is a winter wardrobe staple . I’ve found that it also makes for a classy airport outfit for winter when paired with a coordinating long coat, neutral sneakers, and a cashmere scarf.

From my experience, midi or maxi-length sweater dresses work best for travel days since they cover most of your legs and are more winter weather-appropriate. I love this cream ribbed knit dress because you can wear it on the plane, but it will look equally chic out to dinner or during the day exploring must-see sights.

Camel Coat & Uggs

Christal wearing black leggings, a grey sweatshirt, a tan coat and Ugg tasman slippers in the airport.

In my opinion, you can’t beat a grey sweatshirt and black leggings combination. This classic winter airport outfit never fails to keep me comfy and warm on a chilly plane. Plus, I think the sporty combo looks purposeful and well-styled, even though it feels like I’m wearing pajamas.

Here, I’ve paired my go-to Anine Bing sweatshirt with black leggings and Ugg Tasman Slippers. Adding a chic oversized camel coat on top makes this classy airport outfit feel even more elevated.

Matching Knit Set + Sneakers

Graphic of a cozy winter airport outfit including a matching sweat pant and sweater set.

A matching knit set is one of my go-to classy winter airport outfits (or really any time of the year) . For winter travel, t his matching teddy brown knit set from Everlane is a dream! It will keep you looking cute and feeling comfortable even on long travel days.

Pair it with your favorite sneakers and travel essentials and you’re ready to go!

Creating a winter airport outfit doesn’t have to be complicated. Even on long days filled with planes, cars, hotels, and all-day travel, you can rock a comfy and cozy travel outfit that’s also cute and stylish. Follow my style guide to make picking the perfect winter travel outfit a breeze so you can sit back and enjoy your trip from start to finish!

27 Best Winter Travel Outfits for Women (Trending)

Winter Travel Outfits for Women.  Traveling during the winter can be a tough feat for most of us. You want to look cute but you also want to be comfortable. You want to be warm but you don’t want to be too warm (because the plane and the airport will be heated!) and you want to be able to shed the layers if necessary. Sound familiar? It might seem like a tall order, but girl, we have got you covered! In this article, we will be sharing 27 super trendy, super cute, and super comfortable ensembles to inspire you in your travel wear preparation!

Tips for Travel Wear in Winter

Here are some simple tips to keep in mind when you are planning your travel wear during the cold season:

  • Keep your travel destination in mind. If you are traveling from a cooler place to a warmer place, maybe you don’t want to bring a super heavy coat along. Or if vice versa you will want to pack accordingly.
  • Layers are your best friend. Layers are non-negotiable for traveling in the winter. If you are starting to feel too warm you can always shed a layer or two. And if you are not feeling warm enough, have an extra sweater or cardigan on hand. For this purpose, carry a slightly larger carry-on and save some space for that extra layer.
  • Carry a scarf. A scarf is kind of like a secret weapon if you think about it. Not only are scarves a great way to accessorize your outfit during the winter, but they are small enough to stash in a purse or carry-on bag and pull out if your neck is cold or if you want to wrap something around your shoulders.
  • Choose footwear wisely. Again, this will take some forethought. Where are you landing and will you be in the snow? Will you be doing a lot of walking once landing or are you going straight from plane to car? Are you somebody whose feet are always warm or always cold? These are all things you should think about when deciding what shoes to wear for traveling in the winter.
  • Carry an extra pair of socks. Traveling with extra socks in your carry-on or purse will bring you a lot of peace of mind. Have you been walking in the snow? Switch out those socks once checking in. Are your feet super cold? Pop on that extra pair. Carrying extra socks is a lifesaver.

Now, let’s get on with the outfits!

Fashion Advice: Winter Travel Outfits that Don’t Compromise on Style!

Kara Blakeslee Avatar

Kara Blakeslee

Woman in a sweater in winter

It can be daunting to come up with the right winter travel outfits. Bulkier items like winter coats and cardigans take up precious space in your luggage. And don’t even get me started on winter boots! Don’t panic, I’m here to help you navigate your winter wardrobe so you feel confident for your next winter trip.

With cold temperatures, it’s easy to feel uninspired by winter travel clothes. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with wearing leggings and an oversized sweater. The challenge becomes how to look cute while staying warm.

Personally, I draw outfit inspo from my favorite celebrity style icons. When it comes to winter outfits, Gigi Hadid ranks supreme. She effortlessly incorporates bold patterns and neutral colors into her laid-back ascetic.

If you need outfit inspiration or help building a capsule wardrobe for your winter vacation, keep reading. These outfit ideas are trendy and affordable and will keep you warm while looking like you just stepped off the runway.

Packing Tips

Naturally, winter clothes are bulky, which can make packing light challenging. Here’s a tip: Try space-saving packing cubes . These are fantastic organizational tools and are must-haves for winter travel. When planning your packing list, consider these tips to ensure your winter travel is a success.

  • Water Resistant Puffer: if you are traveling in wintry conditions, this is a must-pack to keep you warm and protected from the elements.
  • Wool blend, long jacket: if you don’t anticipate wintry conditions, a stylish, wool-blend jacket is perfect for sightseeing around town.
  • Leather Jacket/Faux Fur Bomber: great layering pieces for dressier dinners or a night out on town.
  • First base layer: 2-3 long sleeve thermal or turtleneck shirts.
  • Second layer: 2-3 heavier layers like a turtleneck sweater, cardigan or hoodie.
  • Optional: 1-2 dressier blouses for evening events.
  • Leggings: one casual pair and one dressy option. SheBuysTravel Tip : Try faux leather leggings with an oversized sweater and boots for an easy daytime look.
  • Jeans: 2-3 pairs of dark or light denim. Personally, I’ll do one of each for variety.
  • Loungewear: one pair of joggers or sweatpants.
  • Sneaker: 1 pair
  • Boots: 2-3 max. The style can vary pending your itinerary. Aim for an everyday boot and something dressier for the evening.

Accessories

  • Gloves/mittens: 2 pairs
  • Scarves: 1-2 max
  • Beanie: 1-2 max
  • Tote: 1 crossbody bag for daytime activities

Airport Outfit

Focus on being comfortable and warm on the day of travel. If you pack more than one coat, wear the heaviest coat and boots to the airport to save space.

SheBuysTravel Tip: If you bring a puffer jacket, roll it up and squish it into your luggage. Pack travel shoes like sneakers in your carry-on and change into them on the plane.

Amazon Essentials Women's Heavyweight Diamond Quilted Knee Length Puffer Coat

Cute Sightseeing Outfit Ideas

There’s something nostalgic about sightseeing in the cold, wintry weather. That said, dressing for the elements does not mean you have to compromise on style!

Wearing a cute jacket is the easiest way to stay warm and look stylish. An oversized teddy coat is perfect for galavanting around town in the cold weather.

Look for merino wool socks, gloves and base layers. This fabric is lightweight, odor-resistant, and absorbs quickly. Due to the structure of its fibers, merino wool is thinner than regular wool. It keeps you warm without the added bulk. It can be pricey, but it’s worth the splurge.

You can’t go wrong with this everyday winter outfit idea.

SheBuysTravel Style Tip: Want to elevate your outfit? Try faux-fur gloves for an edgy, chic look.

ZIAI Drop Shoulder Slant Pocket Teddy Coat

Chic, Winter Evening Outfits

Winter travel is not complete without a nighttime outfit (or two!) A travel essential is the sweater dress. Trust me, they’re going to be your best friend when it comes to cute outfits for hitting the town.

Shoe-wise, I’m a big fan of pairing a sweater dress with a mid-rise, low-heel boot. If mid-rise isn’t your thing, ankle boots are another great option. Finally, solid or patterned tights provide added warmth while making you look effortlessly put together.

32 Cozy-Cute Outfits for a Snowy Day

Getty Images

As the temperature drops, the countdown is on until the first snowfall of winter — and the moment you’ll have to find a way to stay both warm and stylish in a snowy wonderland. It might seem like the only solution in frigid weather is to bundle up in bulky, uninspiring layers, but you can embrace the season with panache. Winter fashion is all about finding the perfect balance between comfort and aesthetics, and yes, it is possible to look cute and avoid frostbite.

We've curated a collection of 32 fashion-forward outfits spotted out in the world on chilly days that will inspire you to keep cozy and chic throughout winter. From chunky sweaters and toasty boots to trendy accessories that add a pop of personality to your look, we've got you covered (literally).

Red Boots and Fuzzy Hat

Edward Berthelot/Getty Images

The key to the snowiest of days is a good pair of boots—and why not match your sunglasses to your red footwear for a flash of color in a whitewash? Top it all off with a cozy bucket hat and you’re good to go.

Quilted Pants

Raimonda Kulikauskiene/Getty Images

Two words: quilted pants. Nothing could keep your legs warmer in a cooler outfit. Pair with a blazer, a blouse, a sweater—it’s a surprisingly versatile style.

Snuggle up in a full-length teddy coat. It’s the next best thing to being wrapped in a big bear hug while you go about your day in the snow.

Yes, you can still wear a dress on a snow day! It’s all about the layers here: You’ll want a scarf, a jacket, a hat, tights, or even a pair of pants hidden under that long skirt. A pair of flat boots would work just as well here if you’re not one to brave slippery sidewalks in heels.

Pink Puffer

Jeremy Moeller/Getty Images

Pink-on-pink is just the cutest way to stay warm.

Black Coat and White Boots

A long black puffer is a city girl winter essential—and how good is this color combination with the white boots and red gloves?

A Hooded Beige Coat

Sticking to streamlined, simple pieces makes a winning outfit for snow. Here, a beige coat, straight leg jeans, and lace-up booties form a warm but classic look.

Belted Furry Coat

If oversized coats make you feel bulky and shapeless, try belting it to create a little shape while staying just as warm. A headscarf will also help keep the snow off your hair.

A Pink Motorcycle Jacket

A shearling motorcycle jacket is a fashion favorite for cold weather, and getting one in pink will make you stand out in a sea of black coats.

For the very brave, here’s a way to pull off snowy-day shorts: Add a long jacket and knee-high boots, and maybe don’t go for any particularly long walks outside?

Plaid Duster and Beanie

Fall plaid can move right into snowy winter territory, especially if it’s an ankle-length coat. It’s great for trying out some power clashing with another pattern. Throw on a slouchy beanie for a little extra heat.

For keeping your feet warm but looking cool, duck boots have been a winter staple for decades. They’re practical and partner classically with a pair of jeans.

A Cream Wrap Coat

An off-white wrap coat over an all-black outfit is the sleekest snow-day look.

Extra Sweater Layer

Pro styling tip: Add another sweater tied over your coat for an effortlessly cool look—and an extra layer of warmth if you need it.

All Neutral

This beige layered outfit is simply the chicest way to run errands in a winter storm.

A Knit Dress

Here’s another easy way to make a dress work in snowy weather: a knit dress paired with chunky boots and a coat.

Gray Turtleneck

You can go straight from the snow to the office in this trousers-and-gray-turtleneck combo.

Snow outfits don’t have to be limited to beige and black: This head-to-toe purple ensemble sparks joy, but it will keep you covered and dry, too.

A sporty but stylish option: Pair flat boots, an oversized bomber, and a checkered bucket hat.

Hat and Hoodie

Speaking of sporty, a baseball cap is clutch for keeping snow out of your eyes. And with a hoodie and long coat, you’ve got plenty of layers for warmth.

Patchwork Coat

For a colorful-but-cool look, pair a detailed patchwork coat with leather pants.

A homey faux fur coat is just about as good as wearing a giant blanket, but infinitely more sophisticated.

Sunny Yellow

Brighten up a dreary day with shades of sunny yellow. Shearling boots and a turtleneck sweater keep these summery hues and bright patterns firmly in the snow-appropriate category.

Attached Scarf

A new winter It-girl staple that came on the scene last year is the scarf jacket, an oversized coat with a scarf built right in that’s unmatched for practicality—you’ll never accidentally leave your scarf behind again.

Your best Barbie looks don’t have to be put away until next summer: Hot pink can keep you warm all winter long.

Grandma Chic

Alexi Rosenfeld/Getty Images

Granny-inspired crochet is having a trendy moment, but the timeless style has always provided practical warmth. The handcrafted vibe adds a touch of nostalgia while keeping you snug and toasty in the winter chill.

Hats are the go-to for keeping warm up top, but don’t sleep on earmuffs. They keep your ears cozy, don’t leave you with hat head, and you can style your hair around them.

Shades of White

Go full snow bunny in an all-white (or off-white) outfit on a snowy day.

An extremely elegant way to do a snow day: Monochromatic gray from hat to coat to designer bag.

A puffer vest can be nearly as warm as a full coat, but it offers a wider range of styling options to show off the layers underneath it.

Tropical Sweater

Christian Vierig/Getty Images

A fair isle pattern may be a ski lodge classic, but how much more fun is this tropical-inspired sweater in the dead of winter?

Oversized Black

Hailey Bieber went for an oversized peacoat in Aspen and rounded out an all-black look with leather pants, chunky boots, and sunglasses.

Even though I like to feel comfortable in my clothing during flights, I don’t want to necessarily throw away style either. Check out a few airplane outfit ideas to feel relaxed but still look chic when traveling!

Best Real People Airplane Outfit Ideas

Table of contents.

Mastering the right outfit to wear on an airplane is no easy feat. You have the plane climate and destination climate to consider, and you want to still look stylish while feeling comfortable.

One of the key ways I come up with flight outfit ideas is by creating an interchangeable capsule wardrobe . Not only does it help with simplified packing, which can easily fit into a carryon suitcase, but I can revolve what I wear on the airplane to sightseeing, nature excursions, and even nights out on the town.

airplane-outfit

A travel capsule wardrobe should be composed of soft, yet packable fabrics that can compress and be organized into packing cubes . And each item should mix and match with each other, be super versatile, so that means I can pack less but still cover all my activities. And, of course, have nice styling details too!

Anyway, recently I felt moved to think about the best airplane outfit ideas due to people-watching at the airport and noting some real-life travel looks that fit well in capsule wardrobes. (They basically rocked!)

Regardless of your style, we’ve recreated these looks that may spark something in you as well:

  • Easy Comfort
  • Glam Globetrotter
  • Easy Breezy
  • Rocker Chic
  • Pretty in Pink

You can also take a peek at my personal airplane outfits by season:

Winter: indie edge airplane outfit.

Summer: light and breezy airplane outfit.

Now, check out some of the best airplane travel outfits for each of these looks, along with my own!

Cardigan |  V-neck |  Leggings  |  Boots  |  Duffel

Easy Comfort Airplane Outfit

This by far is the easiest airport outfit for anyone to duplicate. Easy to wear basics in neutral interchangeable colors plus a few stylish accessories – simple flight fashion!

The perfect formula for an easy to wear comfortable airplane outfit is a classic combo of fitted tee plus leggings. Pair with a cute yet cozy layer such as a long cardigan and shoes that are easy to remove to go through security.

Button Up | V Neck | Jeans  |  Boots  |  Earrings  |  Jacket  |  Suitcase

Editor’s Tip Pick for an Airplane Outfit

This look is definitely for the ultra-glam jetsetter. I saw this airport outfit on a woman as she went through security and I couldn’t help but stare in awe at her elegance and designer style. I’m not sure I could pull this off but cheers to you if you can!

airplane-outfit

Dress  |  Scarf  |  Sandals  |  Handbag

Airplane Outfit for a Beach Vacation

One of the loveliest airplane travel outfit ideas—what a great look if you’re headed to a warm destination! I’d definitely carry a cardigan with me in my personal item for the in-flight chills but this is sexy, sophisticated, and a cool take on this season’s neutral – military green.

airplane-outfit

Boots  | Pants  |  Shirt  |  Jacket  |  Bag |  Carry-On

First Class Airplane Outfit

This outfit is definitely more up my alley, at least when traveling to cities. The one issue is the metal on the jacket and boots but they’re easy to take off as you go through the security line. Totally worth a little effort.

airplane-outfit

Trench  |  T Shirt  |  Denim  |  Trainers | Purse

Casual yet Chic Airplane Outfit

Understated elegance, this classic look seems to be a timeless airport outfit in Europe since I saw women of all ages sporting an ensemble such as this. The trench was EVERYWHERE at Heathrow airport in November and rightfully so. It’s an investment piece that’s sure to stand the test of time. Seriously, one of the top outfits to wear on airplane trips!

airplane-outfit

Boots | Sweater  |  Jeans  |  Coat  | Handbag

Feminine Airplane Outfit

I absolutely love this airplane style outfit and can imagine an epic picture in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The neutral wardrobe is offset by the bold statement coat which is a great travel strategy when traveling in the winter. After all, your pictures will mostly be of you in a coat, why not make it a great one?

airplane-outfit

Trousers  |  Top  |  Boots

Boho Cozy Airplane Outfit

This look took me by surprise but I really like the unexpected combination. Easy to wear, comfortable pieces with weather-friendly boots , and a few key boho pieces that exude editorial-worthy confidence. Love it!

My Best Airplane Outfits

Now that we’ve given you some real-people inspiration, check out some of my favorite flying outfit ideas from yore, along with the seasons I wore them!

Wearing my All Saints leather iacket with Delsey Suitcase during my flight to Thailand

Fall can be a tricky time of year. I try to avoid going full-on winter and in this case, I was traveling to Thailand during October, so knew I’d shed things like scarves for an airy tank top upon landing.

I love this look because it’s clean and easy to put together. The pants have a give and the coat is fitted but I can move my elbows and arms with ease.  A scarf is particularly topical for fall because when there’s a slight chill it instantly warms me up.

airplane-outfit

My flight from US to England with All Saints leather jacket , | Ankle Boots ( similar ),  Delsey suitcase and Rebecca Minkoff backpack

While I tend to wear simple colors, I still like a bit of rock n’ roll edge to my look every so often!

For this airplane outfit, I was traveling during the wintertime from the US to England and wanted some warmth, so I wore a leather jacket and layered a shirt underneath that. I then put on my fave jeans and then slid in some funky low-heeled ankle boots. I was comfy and cozy I tell you!

airplane-outfit

Blouse | Spanx Leggings | Tory Burch Flats | Longchamp Tote | Delsey Suitcase

This beauty is my new fave airplane outfit that’s awesome for spring (or early fall)!

The look is super stylish but seriously comfortable. I prefer movement and stretch in my pants when I fly and these Spanx faux leather leggings have give in the elastic waistband and knee area. They’re kinda my go-to’s now!

airplane-outfit

Spanx Moto Leggings | Ankle Boots ( similar ) | Delsey Suitcase | Nomad Lane Bento Bag

Good flight shoes are a must so I seek out flexible flats, comfy boots,  or slip-ons that don’t pinch my feet and can be easily removed through security. These Tory Burch Minnie flats were a new buy and so surprisingly comfy and I walked from terminal to terminal with no problems!

Check out reviews for both the Tory Burch Minnie flats and the Spanx faux leather leggings !

Wearing Spanx leggings and black ankle boots as my favorite airplane outfit

Editor’s Winter Favorite: All-Black Chic Airplane Outfit

This is by far, my FAVORITE and best outfit for airplane travel during the winter! It’s warm and layered, so I can take things off/on when needed, and I still feel fashionable.

I was actually going from cold to warm weather, so I wore my heaviest items on the plane and changed once I arrived at my destination of Bonaire. And when I say “heavy” that refers to my coat and boots.

The secret to a capsule wardrobe is to include packable items. My coat is Anatomie, it’s well made and can compress down fairly well, and my boots were a little bulkier but I always look for ones that are as lightweight as possible. And these ones are waterproof so it can handle the elements and still look cute!

Feel free to check out the best waterproof ankle boots for more inspiration!

airplane-outfit

Jacket (similar) | Top (similar) |  Pants (similar) | Slip-ons (similar) | Messenger Bag

I wore this when I hit Europe in the summertime and it was a durable, adorable ensemble I remember fondly!

For me, it’s important to have a comfy flight outfit, and I usually re-wear the same outfit for travel days thereafter, whether I’m flying or taking a train. If I’ve really nailed down an outfit that works for me, then it’s a keeper!

I swear by using lightweight pants and jacket   . It has lightweight fabrics that don’t retain moisture so I feel airy in hot climates. For a top, the sleeveless blouse comes with me for every summer trip! It’s comfortable and breathable, and I can layer it with a cardigan or light jacket if need be.

Again, shoes need to feel right, on or off a flight, and I discovered these Skechers Mary Jane slip-ons ( which are now sold out but here’s a similar one ) because readers raved about them for years! Their memory foam insole means my feet feel cushioned all the time!

More of My Airplane Outfits

I hope you found these cute airplane outfits motivating to begin piecing together your own personal capsule wardrobe that can move from “up in the air” to “on the ground!”

airplane-outfit

Aside from the wardrobe choices above, what stood out above all was that all these travelers had freshly styled hair and makeup, which really adds the finishing touch to even the most casual of airport ensembles. Don’t forget that a good blow dry and mascara goes a long way!

Most of my flights are between the US and Southeast Asia – so I’m usually just focused on how to be as comfortable as possible for 30+ hours. I love Vuori joggers (so soft!!) and a tank top for if I get hot with a jacket for if I get cold. I do need to step up my game when I fly in the States so I appreciate all the stylish ideas!

tammi

So many cute options. Thank you for sharing both the suggestions as well as some personal examples. It’s always fun to get new ideas of combinations that will look cute and travel well.

Michele Smith

Luv this article! I have followed travel fashion girl for several years. I found a video on U-tube on how to pack for 10-days in Europe using a carry-on bag. Guess what? It worked. Have been using capsule wardrobe concept ever since. I use solid hair products at home too. Always great to see the latest thoughts on fashion forward looks.

Amy Hanley

This is so helpful! I am very impressed by those that can wear upscale, polished blazers, jeans and dresses when traveling. I appreciate that you have practical but stylish options for us leggings and cardigan sweater gals! Wish the Skechers slip ones were still in stock.

Amy Fowler

Love wearing my go-to and heavier items on the plane – jean jacket, white tennies for spring/summer, and Chelsea boots for fall/winter. Always bring a layering piece in my personal bag, and tie a scarf on my personal bag too. The temp always seems to fluctuate between boarding and in flight, so it’s nice to have options.

Avagail

My go-to outfit is leggings and a merino wool t-shirt – super casual, but I want to step up my airport outfits so this post was super helpful with ideas!

Jill

I love all of these outfits! To me, the airport is one of the best things about travel and I look forward seeing, walking, exploring as much of it as I can. Therefore, the most important part of the travel outfit are the comfortable shoes!

Ellen

I’m all about comfort on an airplane. These suggestions are great!

Karen

Taking my first International trip in a few months. I’ve never taken a night flight and didn’t know what to wear since we arrive in the morning and will be on the go right away! These choices are all so helpful! Now to only decide, I love them all!

Darcy Hartman

I recently bought a couple of pairs of Old Navy high waisted power soft wide leg pants in navy and in black. These have been perfect for travel. Super comfy on the plane, and they look nice enough for conferences. I love all your looks here!

Christine Ince

So many great tips! I’ve used your packing lists to successful pack for a two week Italy vacation in a carryon. I was able to put together plenty of fashionable interchangeable outfits and I’m so grateful that I packed light! My red eye travel outfit was perfect and included layers. A tank, lightweight linen tee, scarf that doubled as a blanket, and a pair of athleta Brooklyn heights joggers. Their joggers and trousers are perfect for flying.

Ann Rumberger

Love seeing all these options! Such variety for any style of airline travel and any type of style. Great inspiration.

Angela Young

Thanks for this article! Having had flight cancellations where I ended up in the same clothes for a couple days, I always think about what outfit would serve me well – versatile, comfortable, and will look okay a bit mussed or wrinkled… These outfits look chic and fit my style, too. Thank you!

Bryanna

Thank you for this article, super helpful and I completely agree! More and more I’m learning about capsule wardrobes and how important they are!

It’s always a challenge finding items that travel well, are comfortable, and leaving you looking “pulled together” after a flight. These are great ideas – thanks!

Marianne Livengood

Loved all of your airplane outfits. Going to South Africa and looking for comfy outfits for 15 hour flight. Great ideas. Thanks.

Cathleen Huckaby

You ROCK! This ‘1-stop’ travel trove of wisdom, REAL-life help, and tips is a God-send! I’ve ordered many items you & other readers recommend (espec. on major holidays/Black Fri. sales). As a woman on a budget it’s a bit tough w/ all the expenSive sites (Nordstroms, JC Crew) so I appreciate you adding “Quince” as they seem to cut out the middleman/advertising. As the founder of a charity every dollar counts, thus a $340 trench coat is out, yet on Quince it’s much much less (& they have free returns!) I just ordered my 1st item from Quince & looking forward to wearing it as you highly recommended it! Thanks for ALL you do, Cathleen (RN)

Michelle

Love all the outfits! Is there an updated plus size article for the over age 60 group.

Linh Chin-Lai

I have my favorite airplane outfit: long pants (lightweight for summer, heavier for winter), sleeveless top, cardigan, tennis shoes with low rise socks.

Carol Askew

This is a post that I keep coming back to again and again every time I travel. I have recommended this blog and Facebook group to many of my friends. I consider the Facebook group to be the single most helpful group that I am in. Of course I do live and love to travel lol.

Saby Herrera

I’m always looking for airport outfit ideas! Love all the different options and styles. Thanks for sharing!

Nancy Jo Tschida

I love the variety of options too as well as the total look that includes everything to create the outfits even lipstick.

Lauren Andrea Morgan

I love this post. Especially the black and blue with leather jacket. I love options for women of all ages and sizes. I can never color coordinate, so I appreciate the ideas!!

Nancy Y Buchanan

I honestly think the “airplane” outfit is the hardest one of all – LOL!! Since I’m west coast based all my flights to Europe are 10+ hours so… a VERY long day of travel! The Easy Comfort” outfit is definitely my style – cute, comfortable and practical since it features two bulky and hard to pack wardrobe items – a long cardigan and boots! A variation of this look is going to be my choice when traveling to London and Croatia next spring!

Ilene Smith

Always love your ideas! I find that my travel outfits change based on where I’m going and what I’m doing once I arrive. But often some iteration of what you’re showing.

Sinéad Shah

I travel in Athleta Brooklyn pants that I found because of this site. They dress up or down and are super comfortable and also can be washed in the shower and dry overnight. Awesome travel staple

Teri Naiser

While I have yet to do a carry-on-only trip, I’ve learned so many valuable tips from your site! I now have the best travel pants and a wardrobe capsule that mixes and matches beautifully! Thanks for all you do!

Tammy Fellows

All of these are great options, thank you! Soooo much nicer looking and just as comfy as some of the traveling outfits I see at my job as a flight attendant! Love your ideas!

Tobi-Velicia

I love these outfit options! I usually wear a short DVF wrap dress with leggings and shoes that are easy to slip on and off for travel. But I definitely want to try a few of these amazing looks.

Sherri Killam

I have followed Travel Fashion Girl for some time and I cannot even tell you how many times I have read about the best shoes for travel and the best bags (handbags, backpacks) that are secure and stylish. It is because of you that I discovered Travelon. This post about what to wear on the plane with accompanying photos really hits home. We are traveling to Europe at the end of this week and I had vacillated between wearing stretchy Ponte pants that unfortunately have not pockets and blue jeans. After reading some posts on Facebook and seeing these pictures (and knowing how much I rely on pockets), the jeans have won out. Plus, not having to pack them will reduce the weight in my suitcase. Please know that even those of us who are not very chatty usually are reading and enjoying TFG and are very thankful for this resource. May all your journeys be happy ones.

Colleen Hackett

I’ve been following Travel Fashion Girl for some time and love all the tips and real life scenarios. I’m in my 60’s and am mostly into being comfortable with some fashion thrown in. I love that the styles shown are for the younger women all the way up to us traveling seniors! I can always find something here that works for me.

Cheryl Finley

I bought the tee and joggers from Sexy Modest Boutique. I have traveled in them for the past year. They are comfortable, breathable, and I can create different looks with jackets, shoes, scarves, etc…I have black in both pieces. When worn together it looks like a jumpsuit which I like, but I also use each piece with my other clothing to create outfits, so they are part of my capsule. I just recently traveled to Europe and was very comfortable on the long flights (felt like pjs).

Gwen Pinkston

I’ve been looking at these. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on wearing for travel.

Beth Williams

I love this post! So informative and the photos make such a difference in seeing how it all works together.

Liz

I tend to wear long dresses on flights. That way my legs are covered if it’s cold but also, I’m not too hot when I get off the plane. My go to has Spaghetti straps that I paid with a cardigan or jean jacket. That is the ultimate in comfort for me!

Christine Butkiewicz

I’ve been following Traveling Fashion Girl for the past year. Joined the group after my husband surprised me with a trip to Italy. Love to travel but struggle with overpacking and never seeming to be able to put together an outfit. Your blog has been soooo helpful and I’ve learned so much! Thank you for all the interesting information and truly helpful advice!!! Love it!

Zoe Green

I love everything about Travel Fashion Girl! The tips on packing and clothing are spot on. So glad to have found you. Keep traveling!

Loredana Ragone

Your blogs and fb group have helped me be a better Travel Fashion Girl, thank you so much for your advice and suggestions! I love this community.

Sarah Dorn

I wear a lounge set from Duluth Trading Co. on long-haul flights. It’s a tank top with a built-in bra, it’s very comfortable! It’s a monochromatic look so it looks chic.

Cindy Merrill

Such cute outfits! I am inspired to get some new travel outfits!

Jennifer Bennett

I’m definitely an easy comfort kind of traveler, haha. My go-to’s are either Fabletics leggings or Anatomie pants (always stretch!) with 2-3 layers on top, typically a tank or tee with a long sleeve shirt or sweater over and optional scarf because I am always cold on the plane but hot in the airport. I’m an options girl for sure! I do try to style up with my tops though so I look put together vs frumpy.

Jane Bitsicas

So many good ideas. I love having a pulled together travel look, rather than just any old sweats and t-shirts that I see so much of. That way I can hit the ground running when I arrive and not have to change.

Kathleen Weissenberger

I have read and re-read so many of the blog posts. I have purchased a few items from the FB group and the TFG favorites…and I had considered myself a well seasoned frequent travel expert!

Anel Muterspaugh

The easy comfort type is the way to go for me. I mostly travel with kids si ability to be comfortable is key. Joggers, loose T-shirt, cardigan or jacket and running shoes.

Peggy Workman

Every year I fly at least once to Europe and once to Hawaii from KY. At 72, I’ve discovered that my favorite flying outfit is is midi length sleeveless black jersey dress with knee length slits on both side seams. Flexible enough to wear as a jumper, or wear it with a scarf, add a sweater, or a jacket, or a pull over sweater. It’s easier to use the toilet on an airplane but pulling something up then pulling down pants and attempting to keep them off the bathroom floor.

Ronnell Crowder

Wish more of the travel clothes came in tall.

Suzie

Thank you for elevating the idea of what’s appropriate for travel. With so many options, it’s possible to be comfortable and pulled together. It always amazes me to see what fellow travelers wear to board an airplane….and not usually in a good way 😞 Those who take the time to look nice stand out in a positive way, and that’s what I aspire to. So grateful for all of the resources here!!

GG

As someone who wears skirts 300 days of the year, I always have trouble with my airplane outfit- how to style pants?! Thanks for the inspiration!

Rose Trasatti

Love these tips plus all the others you post!

Nikki

Where is that chunky silver necklace from?

Alex

Hi Nikki, it’s from By Aris. I loooooooove their metal jewelry so much!!!! And they evenmade this custom necklace for me and named it after me. 😊 The “Alexandra” necklace: https://byaris.com/products/alexandra-necklace/

Dianne Wendling

Love your blog and all the Facebook group ideas and recommendations!!

Tiffany Cline

Great suggestions. After many years I have finally come up with my go to airport outfit. Long sleeve or short sleeve stripe tee, cardigan or blazer, black comfy pants and loafers with a scarf!

Catherine Lewis

Hello – Thank you! Trying to figure out exactly which long grey cardigan that is in first pic…the Amazon link shows several.

Hi Catherine, I have had a look for you but unfortunately it looks like this cardigan is sold out.

We do have more options on this post which you might like: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/best-cardigans-for-women/

Elaine

I am flying Tuesday night to Sweden for a 2 week road trip. Your article helped me choose my “flying” outfit from my Classic 12 piece capsule. Thanks to you and all your readers for taking the anxiety out of packing for my first trip since before Covid.

Cary

Love the Casual and Chic look featured above. Comfort with a pop of color!

Susan

Thank you for giving me inspiration for my airplane outfit. I have been working on it for the past month or so . . . I like to be stylish, yet comfortable. Since it will be a long 36 hours of flying/travel time, I will be changing to some comfy wide leg pants for the overnight leg, but plan on being more stylish for the first part wearing my EB black Ponte pants, Departure 2.0 long sleeve white shirt, and jean jacket. Still deciding on which shoes to wear!

Christina

Jeans are not the best thing to wear on a plane. There are lots of comfy trousers with flexibility and look a heck of a lot better. Open toes is a no-no, loafers or boots better choice for footwear. Otherwise, thanks for posting cute travel outfits for all of us!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us Christina! ?

Carol Anne Gartland

I love all of these ideas. I do not know if I am just old-school or still believe in fairytales, but I always try and be comfortable while chic. Using my Delsey Chatelet bag ( recommended by TFG) and a faux leather backpack, I keep thinking I will be invited to First Class for a glass of champagne. lol

M

I found scarves to be a TSA tag. They ask me to remove, so they know you’re not carrying something around your neck. Even a bandanna.

Thank you for sharing your travel experiences with us!

Natalie

I like the boots in the Editor’s Tip Pick for an Airplane Outfit. They are black with buckles. Can you send the exact link to find these?

Hi Natalie, I am sorry about this but unfortunately the boots featured were the Ugg Simmens boots which have recently become unavailable. They are similar in style to the Ugg Wilde boots featured here: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/best-waterproof-boots/ We are looking to update many of our articles so thank you for bring this to our attention. I am sorry we could not have been of more help ?

Thank you for the other options. Going on an Alaskan cruise and I was told to have waterproof shoes due to the fact it rains a lot.

Hi Natalie, so pleased I was able to help! ? If you need any more tips to help with packing for your cruise, we also have this article: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/what-to-pack-for-alaska-cruise-in-august/ Have an amazing time! ?

Mary

Do have any suggestions/articles for international (long haul flights) fashion?

Hi Mary, have a look at our guide for what to wear on a flight for some ideas: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/what-to-wear-on-a-plane/ I would also highly recommend that you join our TFG facebook group and post your question there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/travelfashiongirls/ Its a fabulous community of helpful female travelers that have the best advice and recommendations to share. Mrs C

I love sleeveless, soft cotton midi dresses with a cardigan or blazer and sneakers. We fly to Italy often, so I like to look decent. I learned my lesson about wide leg pants: They touch the floor when using the bathroom! For that reason, when wearing pants, it’s best to wear skinnies or leggings.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your go-to travel outfit with us, sounds comfortable and stylish!!! Happy travels ?

Bessie Brown Lewis

Thanks for that nugget about the wide leg pants. Will save them for a night out for our trip.

Grace Crussiah

Agree about wide leg pants. Slim or regular leg pants work for flights too.

Patti

Loved the article, always looking for ways to add a little style to my airplane standbys. Whose says you can’t look good and fly?

alex

Exactly 😉 Thanks Patti!

Jolie Johnsen

Thank you for the wardrobe inspo. The air travel outfit ideas are brilliant!

Dot Higgins

I always travel in quality knits that will keep their shape. The picture at the top of the article looked very unrealistic. If I was wearing that tucked-in cloth blouse, I’d be a wrinkled, sloppy, uncomfortable mess at the end of a 7+ hour flight. Short hops are one thing, but I’ve yet to see someone look so fresh after a trans-continental flight.

Great point Dot! These outfits are only based on people I saw in London so I can’t really be sure of how long they were traveling. Thanks for the feedback!

Linda Goodfellow

Nice!! I loved every one of these outfits.

Thanks Linda!

Julia K

love the military green outfit! so chic and looks comfy..

alex

Awesome! Glad you found one you like!

Elizabeth Jones

My favourite! I always wear a dress…mid calf next time. Cardi, trench, rope low wedge sandals. Soo comfy, smart for any age! Dress is always loose fitting.

Wendy

Any suggestion on where to get the striped wide-leg pants? The link isn’t working.

Hi Wendy! How about these? http://bit.ly/22T8DMk

Claire Sparks

Love the pictures of you at St. Pancras Station in London. Love all the outfits but especially the pink ensemble for Paris.

Thank you Claire! 🥰

Kathy Peters

Can’t wait to get ready and travel light for my upcoming trip to Croatia. Thank you for all the great tips!

Kate

I’m definitely a cross between easy comfort, french and rocker chic when I travel. Comfort if key, but I would prefer not to look like a slob.

There are so many comfortable clothes available, no need to go to the airport in sweats 😉

Rhonda

Since I don’t check luggage, my first rule is to wear the heaviest clothes. So for my flight from US to Europe in a few weeks, that means jeans, a sweater, and boots. I wish I could wear yoga pants to facilitate sleeping on the overnight flight!

Why not carry your yoga pants in your carryon and change out of your jeans before you board the flight? Or wear leggings under your jeans and then remove them? 😉

Irene

I’m traveling from Alaska to Spain and I would shoot myself if i had to travel in tight uncomfortable, deep vein thrombosis inducing jeans 🙂 Pack lighter and leave your jeans in the carryon. Wear leggings on the plane. The difference in weight is minimal.

Hi Irene, do you dive in Alaska? I ask because of your email 🙂 I love scuba diving so that sounds incredible!

Sandy

Some lovely outfits esp like the pink. But, I wonder how did they manage , fine on the way out, but what about when they arrived….have you seen how small the plane cubicles are, and how long the impatient queues on board can be when travelling ‘cattle class’?

With the exception of the Glam Globetrotter they all seemed pretty easy to get in and out of. They’re all mostly just a nicer version of jeans and tee 😉

Theresa

I love to ear comfortable but classy outfit in the plane. I have scored some upgrades a. Because I asked nicely and b. Because I looked like I was a perfect fit for Business or First Class. White London shirt and blazer or trench. Black pants and either nice loafers or boots. A scarf or pashmina. Fresh make up and hair coiffed.

Sounds like the perfect first class look!

Sara

LOVE the ideas! The military green outfit is tres chic and I can’t get over that pink coat. <3

-Sara http://www.coveritgirl.blogspot.com

Thanks Sara!

Michelle

I’m the Easy Comfort type, although I really enjoy being all dressed up (especially for short trips). But on a flight, especially a longer one, I prefer to be comfortable…

It would be nice to travel in glamorous outfits like celebrities but how do they deal with the lack of comfort?

Zoe

Maybe they change into pyjamas for the actual flight?! Not to mention the use of stylists before getting to the arrivals hall of the airport!

My recent autumn/winter travelling outfit of choice is a grey marl jersey dress with 3/4 length sleeves, which I wear with thermal tights (from Marks & Spencer’s) and a merino wool cardigan or sweater. I don’t bother with many accessories when travelling, apart from a scarf – and obviously a coat and gloves/hat if I’m outdoors! This outfit has really worked well for me, even on an uncomfortable overnight long haul flight that was delayed by 3 hours!

Most of the outfits looked pretty comfortable…with the exception of the “Glam Globetrotter” outfit that is! The jewelry, hair, and makeup made the biggest difference from casual to chic. Sounds like we have a similar winter travel outfit – comfortable dress plus tights!

Solange

Wish I could find the ARMY Green Dress for the Beach Vacation. It’s EXACTLY what I’ve been lookn for.

Winter Travel Outfits for Ladies

We all know that traveling during this time of year can be tricky, but you don’t have to let it ruin your trip! By packing the right outfits for travel in winter, you’ll be able to stay warm and comfortable no matter where you’re going.

This guide will help you pick out some stylish outfits for travel in winter so that no matter how far away from home or how long your trip is, you’ll still look great while staying warm and dry!

Check out these winter travel outfits. Traveling in winter can be a real drag. It's cold, there is snow everywhere and your clothes get wet from the rain or melted snow.

How should I dress for winter travel?

Since winter brings in some pretty harsh weather, you’ll have to dress for the cold. This holds true for both plane and car travel.

However, just because you’re dressing for the cold doesn’t mean that you should go overboard when packing your clothes. You will still want to look stylish!

Since it is winter, layering is very important when picking out outfits for travel in winter. This means you’ll want to wear many thin layers rather than a few thick ones.

Layers are key in dressing for winter because what will keep you warm is the air between your clothes, not the clothes themselves.

When your clothes are layered, they trap air in between them, which keeps you warm. The best travel outfits will let you adjust your layers as needed.

On top of layers, the outer layer of the outfit is extremely important. You’ll want to ensure it’s waterproof or water-resistant, at least! If you wear a good quality winter coat and pants, then even snow won’t get through easily.

shoes stacked on shelves

What about shoes?

Wearing the right kind of shoes for winter travel is extremely important. The last thing you want, when it’s snowing outside, is to put on high heels and slip all over the place! That being said, there are ways around this.

For starters, if you have a pair of stylish boots, wear them! You can wear these boots in the snow with thick socks and still look good.

If you don’t have any winter boots, another option is to wear rain boots when it’s snowing. These are water-resistant, so no matter how much snow falls, your feet will stay dry. If there isn’t any snow where you’re going, you can always wear regular shoes with a thick pair of socks.

How to pack snow boots

If you’re going somewhere where there could be snow, pack a pair of waterproof boots. To pack them safely, you should pack them close to their full size (without wearing them) and then stuff them with socks, leggings, or anything else you can roll easily.

How to store bracelets without clutter

What about accessories?

Winter travel calls for hats, scarves, and gloves, as well as sunglasses to protect your eyes from the snow. A good quality winter coat will keep you warm around your neck and face. Make sure that whatever scarf you choose is long enough to cover your neck and face!

Don’t forget to pack your favorite jewelry .

For the Airport

While traveling during the winter you’ll want to make sure you get to your flight on time. Make sure your outfit is comfortable enough that it doesn’t restrict or impede your movement but stylish enough to make you feel confident and positive about your appearance.

It’s also helpful if your style is somewhat similar to the style of your destination, so stick to a more conservative look if you’re going somewhere more conservative and vice versa.

Remember that you’ll likely be dealing with colder weather when you get to your destination, especially if it’s in a northern location, so make sure that whatever clothes you wear for travel in winter can go from the plane to the car easily.

When you get where you’re going, or if it’s somewhere cold when you leave, try getting a travel coat, which is lightweight and easy to pack away when not in use. Also, ensure your scarves can double as a blanket on the plane!

a stylishly dressed woman seated on an airplane

What should I wear on a plane in cold weather?

The best winter travel outfit for flying will make you feel comfortable in your seat and stylish enough not to feel out of place.

Bring layers! Dress in tights, leggings , or warm pants under your dress or skirt. This will ensure you are comfortable during the flight and remain warm without feeling too restricted.

If possible, pack a cardigan layered over your outfit, so it’s easy to remove should the plane get too cold. You can also pack some warm socks and slip those on right before you get on the plane to keep your feet nice and toasty.

Once you’re on the plane, stay as comfortable as possible. Make sure that the clothes you wear for travel in winter aren’t too tight or constricting, which can make it difficult, if not impossible, to get up and move around.

Dresses for Travel in Winter

A winter travel outfit doesn’t have to be too difficult to put together if you stick with a simple and classy dress . A winter travel dress that is loose and comfortable will keep you warm while keeping your style intact throughout the trip.

You may want to consider bringing a sweater just in case, but you don’t want the sweater to be too tight, or it might make it difficult for you to move around.

A nice dress is perfect for traveling during the winter. All you need are some tights and warm boots, plus a simple cardigan if you get cold quickly. If your destination is somewhere more conservative, make sure to dress more modestly.

Winter Road Trip Outfits for Women

Road trips are fun during the summertime but can be pretty uncomfortable if you’re not prepared for them during the winter months. Again, dress in many layers so that you’ll be able to regulate your temperature easily by taking layers off or putting more back on.

Don’t wear anything too tight! If your travel outfits are too constricting, it can get pretty uncomfortable after sitting in one position for too long. Wear clothes that are comfortable.

Wear comfortable shoes that will keep your feet warm but that are easy to take off should you want or need to get out of the car. Try to wear something waterproof so no matter how much snow and wetness there is, you don’t have to worry about getting soaked.

Winter Travel Clothes for Women

When traveling during the winter, you’ll want to dress in layers. Layer thin tights or leggings under your dress or skirt so you are comfortable and warmer without being too restricted. Then, put on a nice long sweater over everything else to keep out the cold!

For boots, make sure to pick ones that are comfortable and waterproof. Boots with a low heel will be easier to walk in during the trip, but high heels can work too if you’re willing to sacrifice some comfort for style.

If winter travel clothes aren’t an option for you, consider packing jeans or denim pants, thick tights or leggings, thick socks, flats, and a nice thick sweater. This combo will work for many destinations in the wintertime!

a woman looking through her closet

Best Travel Dresses for Winter

If you’re not too keen on wearing tights or leggings under your dress, a nice winter travel outfit can still be easy to put together. Pick a pretty dress or maxi skirt that is made of a lightweight fabric and layering it with a nice sweater will keep you warm and stylish at the same time!

Make sure that whatever boots you decide to wear are comfortable and waterproof. Boots with a wedge heel will be easier to walk around in compared to high heels, especially if you’ll be walking on snow or ice.

If cold weather makes it difficult for you to find suitable clothes for your trip, having some jeans or other pants packed is always a good idea. Jeans will keep you warm during the trip, plus they are easy to rock with a simple t-shirt or blouse. Add some boots and you’re set!

Pack whatever is comfortable for you knowing that there are plenty of options out there! You can always wear layers underneath your travel outfit if it’s not quite warm enough. The most important thing is that you are comfortable! You don’t want to be overly cold or suffer from the heat too much.

Having a few staple items in your winter wardrobe is important for any woman who wants to stay stylish and warm during the cold weather months. Pick out three or four outfits that all work well together so you can mix and match without a problem.

Winter travel must-haves

Here are a few must-haves for winter travel outfits.

  • Lightweight dress in a solid color that’s appropriate for many destinations
  • Sweater or cardigan to wear over the top of your dress
  • Tights and leggings to wear under your dress (or jeans if you prefer)
  • Boots with wedge heels  for easy walking on snow and ice. Totally cute with tights!
  • Purse that’s large enough to carry all your essentials and extra layers (like sweaters!) if needed.

Make sure you pack anything else that will be necessary for your trip – coats, scarves, hats – and you’re set! Keep yourself warm and comfy while still looking stylish during the winter months by following these tips.

Winter is not an excuse to run out and buy some major winter clothes. Pack what you have in your closet! A nice pair of leggings, a few light sweaters, a good pair of boots with cute socks pulled up high – plenty of things will work for winter travel style without breaking the bank.

25 Winter Outfits That Make Getting Dressed for the Cold Easy

You’ll never complain about layering again

Of course, there are plenty of coats , knits, and boots —the obvious must-haves—but I am leaning into a bit of the unconventional, as well. Leather and other textured fabrics are in no short supply on my checklist, while tailoring and midi skirts have become fashion’s new favorites, and mine too. When all else fails, the best basics with a twist make for easy outfit formulas that are foolproof. Think funky denim, colorful striped sweaters , and structured oversize outerwear that makes layering a breeze.

Below, 25 winter outfit ideas from some favorite street-style stars—to keep you inspired to really get Dressed, all season long.

All you need is a black coat, maxi skirt, and a great flat shoe to re-create this effortless ensemble. On colder days, we recommend adding tights and layering with an oversize cable knit sweater. Sling a designer bag to give it that extra dose of fashionable flair.

When it comes to travel, we know you need to find the perfect balance between comfort and style. After all, it’s great to look put together while hopping on a flight, but not at the cost of your comfort—especially on long-haul trips. Rest assured, we've curated a list of wardrobe essentials to achieve flawless travel and airport outfits, whether you are exploring a new destination for business or pleasure.

When it comes to the best travel outfits for women, accessories play a critical role in keeping you comfy and organized. All you have to do is remember a comfortable pair of shoes , compression socks to keep things moving, an eye mask that's an upgrade from the one the airline provides, and a chic shawl that doubles as a blanket. And of course, no travel outfit would be complete without a fashionable (and functional!) carry-on bag on your arm or atop your luggage . This bag should house all of your essentials and still level up your airport outfit. Keep reading for some of the best travel and airport outfit ideas your next trip.

Missky Long-Sleeved Oversize Pant Set

Spanx AirEssentials Wide-Leg Pants

AirEssentials Wide-Leg Pants

Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked these for her 2022 Favorite Things , saying, “You might know Spanx for its shapewear, but it also does fantastic cozy clothes. When I tell you this set feels light as air, I’m not kidding. It’s my new leisure suit. The perfectly loose-and-lightweight fabric is like buttah!”

Vuori Elevation Trouser in Midnight Heather

Elevation Trouser in Midnight Heather

Vuori is celebrated for its super-cozy pieces. The best thing about these pants? They look put together while the stretch-knit fabric is as comfy as your favorite Vuori loungers. The high-rise waist and loose fit of the leg give you an effortlessly stylish silhouette.

Girlfriend Collective Compressive Pocket Legging

Compressive Pocket Legging

Leggings are a perfect choice for traveling wear. And these have Oprah's seal of approval, as they were picked for Oprah's 2022 Favorite Things list. Eco-friendly and size-inclusive (the range goes through 6XL), these compression leggings are available in a plethora of hues. Plus, they feature double-side seaming and pockets.

J. Crew Cashmere-Wool Travel Wrap

Cashmere-Wool Travel Wrap

Let's be honest, you can't always count on the airline's blankets to keep you warm, and some even leave annoying fluff behind. Stay warm and stylish with your own wearable blanket by way of this travel necessity from J. Crew that comes in eight different colors.

Dr. Scholl's Time Off Platform Sneakers

Time Off Platform Sneakers

Celebrated for their consciously comfortable footwear, these sneakers from Dr. Scholl's are tricked out with tons of features for all-day comfort. Inside, anatomical cushioning and arch support keep you covered while a lightweight, anti-slip platform sole protects on the outside. This minimalist sneaker looks just as good with a matching suit as it does a low-key sweat set.

Athleta Everlasting Button-Down Top

Everlasting Button-Down Top

A classic button-down is a travel essential that elevates any in-transit look. Athleta's Everlasting button-down has all the details you need: a lightweight, odor-control stretch fabric and longer length for coverage. Luckily, you can cover all your neutral bases with navy, black, and white. Plus, it comes in an extended range of sizes from XXS to 3X.

Chico's Travelers No Tummy Pants

Hoka Transport GTX Sneakers

Transport GTX Sneakers

Hoka's sneakers are cult Oprah Daily office favorites and podiatrist-approved . Not only do they look good with just about everything, but the Transport GTX also offer quick-toggle lacing for an easy on-off, as well as a full-length EVA midsole for the highest level of cushioning and arch support.

Spanx Women's AirEssentials 1/2 Zip Sweater

Women's AirEssentials 1/2 Zip Sweater

Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked this top for her 2023 Favorite Things , saying, “Wow. Wow. Wow. May I tell you I got this set last year? I wore it in a photo shoot for O Quarterly and never looked back...” Why not pair it with the coordinating wide-leg pants for a full sweatsuit?

Dr. Motion Compression Socks with Enhanced Cushioning (3 Pack)

Compression Socks with Enhanced Cushioning (3 Pack)

Compression socks are always a good ideal for traveling. We recommend these styles from Dr. Motion that offer graduated compression of 8 to 15 mmHg while providing arch support. Unlike other socks that can feel scratchy or clammy, these are soft, moisture-wicking, and subtly cushioned.

Everlane Organic Cotton Honeycomb Cardigan

Organic Cotton Honeycomb Cardigan

This gorgeous honeycomb cotton cardigan is part of the latest iteration of Everlane Editions: The Art of Spring Layering. Crafted from responsibly sourced and lower-impact materials, this 100 percent organic cotton knit is ideal for layering before, during, and after your flight.

32º DEGREES Lightweight Recycled Poly-Fill Shirt Jacket

Lightweight Recycled Poly-Fill Shirt Jacket

Sometimes a full on coat is not needed for travel, but you can never be quite sure of the weather. That's why a a little packable shacket—part shirt, part jacket—comes in. In black, olive green, or dark blue, the jacket will be your go-to for travel. Keep in mind, it runs slightly big in order to allow for comfortable layering of hoodies or sweaters underneath. There's a reason why Oprah tapped it on her Favorite Things list .

JW PEI Aylin Canvas Cellphone Crossbody Bag

Aylin Canvas Cellphone Crossbody Bag

Making sure you have all your essentials when going through airport security can be tough, but with this crossbody, you'll have your phone and cards right at hand.

Birdies Vesper Seven-Layer Cloud Comfort Loafers

Naadam Original 100 Percent Cashmere Sweater

Original 100 Percent Cashmere Sweater

Warm, soft, and chic—few things are as reliable as a plain cashmere sweater. At under $100, Naadam's perfect crewneck comes in core and limited-edition hues. Pro tip: Order a size or two larger than your usual for an ultra-cozy fit. And what's more, the sweater is machine-washable (yes, you read that right).

Original Puffer Hug Scarf

Don't worry, this puffer hug scarf doubles as a warm wrap to keep you cozy and a hug to make you feel loved. It's fleece-lined with deep pockets so you can also store your ID and credit card without any issues.

Asutra Silk Eye Mask & Pillow

Silk Eye Mask & Pillow

Oprah chose this eye mask for her 2023 Favorite Things list. "Sleeping with a mask is life-changing—I cannot tell you how much the quality of my sleep has improved," she said. "This weighted 100 percent silk one stays down and doesn’t let even a pinch of light in.” Co-owned by superstar Venus Williams, Asustra produces eye pillows that are filled with lavender and flax. Whether you want to meditate or snooze during your flight, this adjustable mask will definitely relax you.

The ultimate winter packing list

As a Floridian, packing for cold weather definitely does not come naturally to me! Luckily, I have a sister who has lived through many winters in the West and knows exactly what winter outfits to pack to survive freezing temps. (Well, in my mind, they’re freezing temps, haha.)

I’ve lived in Florida all my life, so I actually look forward to a break from the endless summer to experience cold weather, especially snow! It truly is so magical waking up to snow falling outside amid a beautiful backdrop of snow-capped mountains in the distance. And don’t even get me started on all the fun winter activities that snow has to offer! 🙂

We usually go on a ski trip every year (see you soon, Jackson Hole, hehe), and I feel like I FINALLY have my winter outfits packing list down to a science, so figured I would share some tips with you guys in case you’re planning a trip of your own. Honestly, if you know how to pack for the snow, it isn’t that bad at all!

In this post, I’m sharing the ultimate winter packing list, including the best winter outfits for women, essential items to bring, where to shop for winter clothes, winter packing tips, and so much more!

Packing tips for a winter trip

  • Check the weather forecast . This one is obviously a no-brainer, but I thought I’d throw it out there just in case (haha). Before you start packing, I HIGHLY recommend checking your destination’s weather conditions during your travel dates. This will give you an idea of what temperatures and precipitation to expect during your visit so you can plan accordingly.
  • Layer up . Layers are key to staying warm and comfortable in winter! The weather can fluctuate by day, and it’s a lot easier to put on/peel off layers than to be stuck in an outfit that’s uncomfortable all day. It’s also a lot more efficient to pack layers rather than bulky items that take up a lot of space in your suitcase.
  • Keep it neutral ! I recommend mainly packing neutral items that you can mix and match with a few accent pieces that express your own personal style. This will not only help to increase versatility but will simplify the packing process and prevent you from overpacking!
  • Rent clothes instead of buying them ! When we lived in Utah for a few months last year, I rented a lot of winter outfits from Nuuly . They have everything from sweaters and winter jackets to dresses for every occasion and even ski outfits. As a Floridian, I don’t have (or need) a lot of winter clothes, so it made a lot more sense to rent than to spend a bunch of money on stuff I’ll only wear a few times a year. Click here for $20 off your first month’s subscription.

TIP: Rent your winter clothes instead of buying them! For ONLY $98/month, you can choose ANY six items from over 150+ brands on Nuuly AND this price includes shipping! Click here for $20 off your first month’s subscription!

  • Use compression bags for bulky items ! Compression bags are truly a lifesaver when packing for a winter trip. I love packing cubes (check out my post here ), but they don’t work well with bulky items like sweaters and jackets. I love these compression bags from Amazon because they come in assorted sizes and have a travel-friendly pump.
  • Wear your heaviest items on the plane . It’s hard enough keeping my suitcase under 50 lbs on a regular trip, so as you can imagine, the struggle is real when I’m packing for a winter vacation. If you can relate, I recommend wearing your heaviest/bulkiest items (jackets, boots, etc) on the plane to free up space for other things in your suitcase.
  • Where to buy cute winter outfits for women . If you want to invest in a couple of cute outfits for winter that won’t break the bank, Amazon is your place! Amazon has everything from ski clothes to sweaters , snow boots , and much more! Additionally, Nordstrom , Madewell , and Express are other places to look that always have a good selection of winter outfits women and accessories.

TIP: Compression bags are a lifesaver for bulky items! Click here to check out my favorite ones from Amazon that include 12 bags in assorted sizes + a travel hand pump.

  • Sweaters  are obviously a no-brainer when it comes to packing for a winter trip! As mentioned, I usually only try to bring a couple of neutral winter sweaters for women that I can mix and match to create different winter outfits AND dress up or down. Sweaters are bulky and take up a lot of space in your suitcase, so I recommend packing only a few! Some of my go-to places for sweaters are Amazon , Abercrombie , and Aerie .
  • Layers are essential when packing for a winter trip! I recommend starting with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep you dry throughout the day and then throwing an insulated layer like a fleece or sweater on top. The outer layer should be waterproof or windproof to help protect you from the elements. I usually pack a couple of basic long-sleeve tops to wear under sweaters and will also pack some fleece tights or leggings to wear under bottoms if needed.
  • Shackets are one of my favorite things to pack for ANY trip. I love how versatile they are, and they’re the perfect layering piece. Depending on the weather, I usually wear them open or buttoned up over a basic short sleeve or long sleeve tee.  They also look cute, worn over an activewear set, and make the perfect travel outfit. You can buy shackets for women just about anywhere these days, but Amazon is typically my go-to place, as they have a vast selection.
  • A warm winter jacket is by far the most important thing you’ll need for your trip and will make a world of difference when it’s freezing outside. Depending on where you’re going, I recommend packing a waterproof insulated jacket that has a hood (in case it’s snowing or raining) that can be folded down easily to fit in your suitcase. The North Face is always the first place I look for good quality jackets, and Backcountry also has a great selection of jackets from various outdoor brands.
  • Unless you’re planning on going skiing, I usually keep it pretty simple when it comes to winter pants . I typically bring a couple of pairs of thicker jeans to wear with different shoes. Mom jeans or straight jeans are great for ankle boots and sneakers, and I usually wear skinny jeans with my winter boots or combat boots. If you’re been following me for a while, you know that Abercombie jeans are my FAVE, and I also love shopping at Madewell and American Eagle for jeans too!

Pin this for later!

winter outfits to pack for cold weather

  • If you’re planning on going skiing or doing any other kind of outdoor winter activity like hiking, I would make sure to pack some  cold weather activewear  that’s moisture-wicking. Under Armour has a great  cold gear line , and  Smart Wool  is another good place to shop for merino wool. Even though merino wool is a little on the pricier side, it has moisture management, temperate regulation, AND it’s odor resistance, so it’s worth the splurge, in my opinion!
  • When it comes to  winter dresses , you can never go wrong with a comfy  sweater dress ! What I love about sweater dresses is that you can easily dress them down during the day for brunch and dress them up at night for dinner. If you’re in need of more formal winter dress outfits, I would definitely take a look at  Nuuly  or  Rent the Runway . They have SO many beautiful dresses to choose from for EVERY occasion!
  • A  swimsuit  is probably something you didn’t expect you’d need for a winter trip, but trust me, you DO! There truly is no better feeling than getting into a hot tub after a long day of skiing or exploring. Most winter vacation destinations also have hot springs (and who wouldn’t want to do that?), so I would definitely make sure to pack a  swimsuit  just in case!
  • Another must-have for your winter travel packing list is a comfy pair of  pajamas  or a  lounge set . Anywhere you stay is obviously going to have heat, but who doesn’t like to post up by the fireplace in a cozy pair of PJs? Am I right? Some of my favorite places to shop are  Amazon  for lounge sets and  Aerie ,  Target , or  Victoria’s Secret  for pajamas.
  • Winter boots  are another must for any winter trip packing list, and I HIGHLY recommend investing in a pair that is waterproof, especially if you’re going somewhere with snow.  Sorel  is always my go-to place for women’s winter boots, as they’re designed with seam-sealed waterproof construction and a high-traction sole which is super helpful for ice.  Amazon  is also a great place to look for womens winter boots that won’t break the bank!
  • We, of course, can’t forget about  accessories ! Some  womens cold-weather accessories  I always bring with me on any winter trip are a beanie, gloves, a scarf, and a few warm pairs of socks. Depending on the temperature, I recommend investing in some cold-weather accessories made of  merino wool . The cold causes your blood flow to decrease and typically affects your fingers, hands, and feet first, so it’s essential to keep those areas covered!

winter outfits women

Don't forget!

Some things that I ALWAYS make sure to bring with me on any winter trip are lotion , chapstick , a refillable water bottle , and liquid IV . I’ve never personally suffered from altitude sickness, but as I’m sure you know, it causes nausea, dizziness, lethargy, and, most importantly, dehydration.

My skin is always SO dry when I travel to Utah to visit my sister, so I always carry lotion and chapstick with me everywhere I go. It’s also essential to stay hydrated, so I always have water on me and will usually pour in a Liquid IV packet once a day. Use code TRAVELMEETSSTYLE for a discount on their website here .

The Red Square and beyond: a guide to Moscow’s neighbourhoods

Apr 23, 2019 • 6 min read

The Red Square, Kremlin and St Basil's Cathedral in Moscow at night © Mordolff / Getty Images

One of the world’s largest cities, Moscow is a true metropolis whose ancient neighbourhoods are interspersed with newly built high-rises, inhabited by people from all over the former Soviet Union.

It’s also the city of rings: the innermost is the Kremlin itself; further away are the former defensive rings, Boulevard Ring and Garden Ring; still further are the Third Ring Road and the MKAD, which delineates the city’s borders. There’s an ongoing joke that Moscow Mayor is the Lord of the Rings. Most sights are contained within the Garden Ring, although for some more authentic neighbourhoods one has to venture further out. To help you explore Moscow’s diversity, we picked our favourite ’hoods – but this list is by no means exhaustive.

Evening view of Moscow's Red Square from the Kremlin towards St Basil's Cathedral

The Red Square and around

It can be argued that Moscow, or even the whole of Russia, starts at the  Red Square  – it’s an absolute must-see for any visitor. After standing in line to check out Lenin’s granite  mausoleum , go to GUM , Moscow's oldest department store. Full of luxury shops, it’s famous for the glass roof designed by one of Russia’s most celebrated architects, Vladimir Shukhov. Apart from architectural wonders, GUM has several places to eat including the Soviet-style cafeteria Stolovaya No 57 where you can sample mysterious-sounding delicacies such as the ‘herring in a fur coat’.

On the opposite side of GUM, Kremlin ’s walls and towers rise above the Red Square. Walk through the Alexander Garden  and past the grotto to the Kremlin’s entrance. It’s a treasure trove for any art and history lover: ancient gold-domed churches, icons galore and the resting place of Moscow tsars.

On the other side of the Red Square is Moscow's symbol,  St Basil's Cathedral with its multi-colored domes. Right behind it is the newly built Zaryadye Park , which showcases flora from all over Russia; another attraction is the floating bridge jutting out above the embankment and the Moscow river. A glass pavilion nearby hosts Voskhod , a space-themed restaurant with dishes from all 15 former Soviet Union republics. It’s a perfect spot for a classy evening meal and there’s often live music.

People chilling out at a pond in central Moscow on a summer day

Patriarch’s Ponds

The Patriarch’s Ponds (aka Patriki) is a historical neighbourhood, celebrated in Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita . Located right off Tverskaya street, Moscow’s main thoroughfare, Patriki recently became the city’s most happening quarter. It has some of the most elegant architecture, including several buildings by art-nouveau genius Fyodor Shekhtel. Narrow streets here have a cozy feel, with recently widened sidewalks and bike lanes. In the summer it becomes party central.

Start by checking out free exhibitions or one of the cutting-edge performances at the experimental theatre Praktika . But make no mistake, the neighbourhood’s main attraction are its bars and restaurants. Patriki’s residents are well-off Russians and expats, so it’s no wonder that  Moscow’s recent culinary revolution started here. Uilliam’s , one of the pioneers of this foodie movement, still rules over the scene with its floor-to-ceiling windows. Also try AQ Chicken  for everything chicken-related, Patara  for a taste of Georgian cuisine, and Cutfish for some great sushi. Finish your gastronomic tour with original cocktails at Pinch or the Moscow outpost of NYC restaurant Saxon+Parole .

Old red-brick buildings of the former Arma factory in Moscow

Around Kursky train station

For a long time, Kursky train station was surrounded by semi-abandoned factories and the area was best avoided. It all changed in the late 2000s, when a dilapidated wine factory was turned into Winzavod , a mecca for fans of contemporary art. Today these red-brick buildings are occupied by some of Moscow’s leading galleries. After taking in all the art, pop in the small wine bar Barrell  for a glass from burgeoning wineries of Russia’s south or grab a bite at Khitrye Lyudi  cafe.

Right next to Winzavod is Artplay , another refurbished factory full of design and furniture shops and large exhibition spaces.  It’s also home to  Pluton , one of the latest additions to Moscow’s dance scene. Other Pluton residents are the multimedia art gallery Proun  and another lunch option,  Shanhaika , with authentic Chinese cuisine.

A short walk away is Arma, where a cluster of circular gas holders has been turned into offices, restaurants and clubs including Gazgolder  (it belongs to one of Russia’s most famous rappers, Basta). Apart from hip-hop concerts, Gazgolder organises regular techno parties that sometimes go non-stop from Friday to Monday.

Colourful facade and onion-shaped domes of a Russian Orthodox church in Moscow

If you’re interested in religious architecture, Taganka is the place to go. First of all, see the old Moscow at Krutitskoye Podvorye – one of those places where nothing seems to have changed in centuries. The monastery was founded in the 13th century, but in the 16th century it became the home of Moscow metropolitans and most of the surviving buildings are from that epoch. Take a tour of the grounds, and don’t miss the interior and icons of the Assumption Cathedral.

Your next stop is the Rogozhskoe settlement of ‘old believers’, a branch that split from Russian Orthodoxy in the 17th century. The settlement is dominated by an 80m-tall bell tower. The yellow-coloured Intercession Church, built in neoclassical style with baroque elements, has an important collection of icons. Next to the church grounds is the popular Trapeznaya cafeteria, with Russian food cooked using traditional recipes – a perfect spot for lunch.

A short ride away is Andronikov Monastery, which today houses the Rublyov Museum  in the old monks’ quarters. There’s a great collection of ancient Orthodox icons although none by Andrei Rublyov, who was a monk here in the 15th century. The main attraction at the monastery is the small Saviour’s Cathedral, considered the oldest surviving church in Moscow.

Finish the day at the craft-beer cluster around Taganskaya metro station. Varka offers both Russian and imported labels, with the Burger Heroes stand serving arguably the best burgers in town. Craft & Draft looks more like a respectable old-fashioned pub, with decent food, 20 beers on tap and a hundred types of bottled brews.

Elaborate facade with statues and balcony on a mansion in Moscow

Khamovniki is Moscow’s ancient textile district, named after the word kham  (a type of cloth). Two main thoroughfares, Ostozhenka and Prechistenka, cut through the neighbourhood parallel to each other. The former turned into the so-called ‘Golden Mile’ of Moscow in the 1990s, with the highest real-estate prices and some of the best examples of new Russian architecture, while the latter is still mostly lined up with impressive 19th-century mansions.

Khamovniki is somewhat of a literary quarter, as several museums devoted to Russia’s best-known writers – among them  Leo Tolstoy , Alexander Pushkin  and Ivan Turgenev – popped up here during the last century. There’s also plenty to see for an art lover. The  Multimedia Art Museum regularly hosts exhibitions by some of the best photographers from all over the world, as well as contemporary art. Several galleries, including RuArts  and Kournikova Gallery , have also found home in Khamovniki.

When you’ve had your fill of literature and art, stop by Gorod Sad on Ostozhenka, an outpost of a local health-food chain, and order dishes such as pumpkin soup or grilled vegetables salads. Afterwards, head to Dom 12 , which is located just off Ostozhenka street. This restaurant and wine bar is frequented by the city’s intellectuals and its schedule includes lectures, book presentations and film screenings, while in the summer guests migrate to a lovely courtyard.
