Nuestra excursión en jeep en Gran Canaria es la mejor manera de salirse de las rutas turísticas más típicas y tópicas. Te proponemos un itinerario por algunos de los paisajes naturales más hermosos del archipiélago canario, que seguramente jamás podrías disfrutar si no es de la mano de nuestros chofer-guías, expertos conocedores de este territorio y experimentados conductores de 4×4.

Hemos diseñado una ruta de tierra y asfalto para mostrarte los paisajes más icónicos de Gran Canaria. Les llevaremos a escondidos miradores, algunos pueblos con encanto y zonas arqueológicas de los antiguos habitantes de Gran Canaria.

Nuestro Jeep Safari en Gran Canaria empieza en Playa del Inglés, desde donde la caravana partirá rumbo al mirador de la Sorrueda pasando por el barranco de Tirajana. Las vistas del pantano son espléndidas y dan para una bonita colección de fotos.

Visitaremos la fortaleza de Ansite, un yacimiento arqueológico que nos traslada a la Gran Canaria previa a la conquista española, con numerosos indicios de la vida de los aborígenes. Todo un viaje en el tiempo. Luego nos acercaremos a Santa Lucía, un pequeño paraíso agrícola entre las laderas de las Tirajanas para, a continuación, parar en San Bartolomé.

Por supuesto que en todo momento tendrás la compañía de nuestros guías, que te irán contando la información relevante de cada sitio. Tras reponer fuerzas la aventura continua por el barranco de las Mil Palmeras, el casco antiguo de Fataga y el Mirador de las Moscas.

How do Jeep Safaris in Gran Canaria work?

Comfort is something entirely different! This is the first thing you will notice when you climb into the 4×4 Discovery Vehicle. But you knew that the Gran Canaria Jeep tours would be rustic. You take a seat on one of the lateral seats in the backside. Other guests are getting in the jeep too and are greeting you. That you are a sociable person now benefits you. You will quickly get into a first conversation and then the tour already starts. All the jeeps participating in this safari gather in a parking lot honking their horns while positioning in a row. Everyone is waving and the tension is rising. You will get a totally new perspective on this Jeep Tour Gran Canaria.

Do you have to drive yourself?

The convoy finally sets in motion. The driver steers the rustic off-road vehicle safely through the curves. He likes to drive a little closer to the front vehicle, so that people in the different vehicles can get to know each other. When taking the curves, you always have to counteract the centrifugal force. You just notice how the fun factor tilts upwards. The cheerful chauffeur points out to the sights passing to the left and right. You pass a huge banana plantation and can see the exotic banana tree.

Are there any stops?

The caravan stops for the first time. The English-speaking tour guide loudly welcomes all participants and introduces his crew and the cameraman. The latter will produce a film of today, which you can of course purchase. The guides’ eloquence and his knowledge of Gran Canaria and its inhabitants are really refreshing. Take a deep sip from your water bottle and adjust the duster again before moving on.

Do you drive Off-road?

Serpentine after serpentine, the Jeep Safari convoy gets higher into the stunning mountains of Gran Canaria in a wavy motion just like a snake. The canyons get deeper and the cliffs get higher and higher. After just a short while, you will suddenly turn left and go off the cozy asphalt road and continue on a really dusty track. “Thanks for the bandana, sweetheart”, you’ll think and then hold on to the bars.

What is there to see on a Jeep Tour in Gran Canaria?

Every single jeep now produces so much dust that you can barely see your hand in front of your eyes. You pass through a pine forest that fascinates you, because you didn’t expect such coniferous forests in Gran Canaria. Then you finally stop the dust sinks. And you will be able to take a glance through the trees. On a clear day you will be able to see the neighbor island Teneriffe and how the highest mountain of Spain, the Teide rises above the clouds.

After a last dusty bend, the Jeep Tour turns onto an asphalt road again. You have completely lost your orientation. At the same time you are overwhelmed by the new views over a deep valley, at the bottom of which you will spot some small villages. In the very middle of it all a mighty monolith is standing out and reaching high up into the sky.

The driver explains that what you see is the Roque Bentaiga, one of the religious sites of the aborigines. After a delicious lunch and a short break, the group slowly gets on its way back. But only after you have been through San Bartolome, Fataga and the valley of the 1000 palm trees, you will get back to your starting point in Maspalomas. You are exhausted and the dust is still stuck between your toes. But you are happy and satisfied, after an absolutely exciting day.

We start the tour from Maspalomas until we reach the Mirador de las Moscas, a place where people love to take some pictures because of its incredible views of the palm grove inside the Fataga ravine and the Maspalomas Dunes. We continue the journey to the village of Fataga, where you will have time to visit the old town centre. We continue the journey to San Bartolome de Tirajana, to reach the villages of Ayacata and Tejeda, the highest point of the area. In the village of Tejeda we will visit a herbal tea museum to taste some local herbal teas and also the old local almond bakeries. Continuing the journey we will reach the cave houses in Artenara, one of the most important and popular attractions of the island. On the way to Fontanales, we will stop at Mirador Monte Pavón for its spectacular views to take some pictures of Las Palmas Capital and the neighbouring island Tenerife. In the village of Fontanales you can have a typical Canarian lunch (optional). We continue in the direction of the village of Moya, through the wonderful valley of Los Tilos. Our last stop is in the coastal village of San Felipe along the north coast, where we can observe the Canarian banana plantations and the North Sea. Finally we cross the island's capital to take the motorway south.

Yes, the Jeep has a maximum of 7 passenger seats, driver included. The excursion consists of a caravan of Jeeps.

The activity starts on the island of the excursion. It does not include transport from another island in the Canary Islands archipelago. The meeting point is stated in the activity description.

Enjoy a day of adventure and nature on our Jeep Safari Tour in Gran Canaria, see places that are only accessible by 4x4. The trips are daily 09:00 to 16:00 all year round and in addition 15:30-21:30 (July and August only) Hotel Pickups are from 08:30 - 08:55 depending on where you stay the duration of the trip is 7 hours. The capacity is 8 person maximum per Jeep. Tickets are only €55 per person.

Some of you may think of Gran Canaria as only a tourist resort with beaches and hotels. When you have been on the Jeep Safari, it will open your mind to so much more…

The Jeep Safari convoy travels in a line from your resort, towards the mountains behind Arguineguin, passing through the valley of a Thousand Palms where there are many tropical plants typical for this area. We then stop in a local bar and you have the chance to buy breakfast if you wish and also try the Watermelon juice, which the región boasts itself on.

After a short stop, we head to Presa de las Ninas, with amazing views and volcanic structures and as we continue, you will also see Stone formations, natural lakes, caves and amazing flowers and wildlife. There are some great photo opportunities here. Amazingly there are actually inhabited caves where people live to this day.

As we travel through a stunning pine forest, we head towards San Bartoleme De Tirajana and it is time to stop for lunch, a typical Canarian lunch is available for only €7. Fruit and water is included on the trip.

When everyone has refuelled, we continue along the mountain road and reach Arteara, which is home to the Camel Park. Here you have the opportunity to take part in a mini camel safari, which is optional, and 10 euros extra on the day.

Get away from the typical tourist zones in one of the jeeps with a guide who speaks your language, where possible and travel over rough terrain to places off the beaten track, not accessable with your average car.

We pick up from your hotel and drive to the central meeting point, to meet the other jeeps. From here, we travel in a line from Playa Del Ingles, towards the mountains behind Arguineguin, passing many tropical plants typical for this area. We then stop in a local bar and you have the chance to buy breakfast if you wish and also try the Watermelon juice, which the región boasts itself on.

After a short stop, we head to Presa de las Ninas, with amazing views and volcanic structures and as we continue, you will also see Stone formations, inhabited caves and flowers. There are some great photo opportunities here.

As we travel through a stunning pine forest, we head towards San Bartoleme De Tirajana and it is time to stop for lunch, which is available for only €7. Fruit and water is included for free on the tour. When everyone has refuelled, we continue along the mountain road and reach Arteara, which is home to the Camel Park. Here you have the opportunity to take part in a mini camel safari, which is optional, and 10 euros extra on the day.

Before making our descent into Playa Del Ingles, we pass through the very picturesque and white-washed barranco of Fataga, which is an original Canarian Village, perfect for taking more photographs.

After a fun-filled adventurous day, seeing wonderful scenery, plant life, mountains, rock formations and pine forests, you will see why Gran Canaria is called the mini-continent.You are then returned safely to your hotels with very happy memories and many photographs to prove just how amazing and diverse Gran Canaria is.

Surprise at the Ton of Fun

I was picked up at my hotel and taken to a place I would never be able to find again in the city where the tour began. When I realized it would be 10 to 12 vehicles (all Toyota Land Crusers), all traveling together, I thought it would be a bit disappointing. However, as we headed out, the skill of the drivers and the coordination between the various vehicles amazed me. I was in an English speaking vehicle but the driver spoke mostly Spanish. He did however have some things memorized in English to point out along the way. At each stop and English-speaking leader (who spoke seven languages) addressed all of us in the various languages so we were in the know everywhere we went. Restrooms and food stops were available along the way. It was also a chance to get to talk with other travelers who spoke English. I assume it was the same in each of the other vehicles except with different languages. I would highly recommend this trip for anyone and everyone. It gave us a view of the geology of this island which is truly amazing. Again, the drivers were spectacular and I would do it again the next time I am here.

Our itinerary begins, once all aboard, in Playa del Inglés where we head to the area of Lomos de Pedro, rolling basically on asphalt roads to quickly make this trip an unforgettable adventure. We continue on winding roads from where we´ll enjoy breathtaking views of Gran Canaria’s Grand Canyon, as well as the highest peak of the Arguineguín Ravine. The fun is more than guaranteed throughout the entire tour and with numerous surprises to the end.

The asphalt gives way to a road of dirt and stone until reaching a prominent, recognized and important point of the Canarian history: the dam of Chira, main source of water supply in the twentieth century in the Canary Islands, where we´ll have a photo stop before moving to the highest peak of our travel, Tunte.As we drive up you´ll begin to understand why Gran Canaria is known as “the Miniature continent”, because of its great changes not only in its landscape but also in its climate. The Safari Jeep excursion begins when we pick you up at the pre-arranged point. From there, a catalogue of truly breath-taking corners of the countryside await. To begin, the first part of the journey will follow asphalt roads. From Playa del Inglés, we will arrive at El Tablero and then to the area of Lomos de Pedro Afonso. The winding road that we will follow is in itself an adventure, but it also offers impressive views of the Grand Canyon of Gran Canaria and of the Arguineguín Ravine. In fact, we will go toward the highest part of that precipice, and that is precisely where the most enjoyable part of the itinerary begins. The asphalt is transformed into a narrow dirt and gravel road, ideal for our jeeps and the expert hands of our drivers. You will be able to feel at ease and to enjoy the views of the Arguineguín Ravine, since we will come to another point highlighted on our trip: the Chira Dam. We will stop there to take photos of this beautiful place before returning to the asphalt road to begin the drive to Tunte, the highest point that we will visit during the trip. The experience of arriving in Tunte is very exciting. Soon we will discover the small but charming village of Cercado de Araña, we will see some enormous forests with the most emblematic species of the island, the Canary Pine, and we will be amazed by the rapid weather changes in this area, since it is possible to climb above the clouds and go from a sunny sky to a cold fog in minutes. In fact, the Fataga Valley, where we will find this village, is known as the Valley of the Thousand Palms.
