About Doja Cat:

GRAMMY award-winning global superstar Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16 years old . Having grown up in and around the LA area, she developed a knack for music by studying piano and dance as a kid and listening to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more. Signed to Kemosabe/RCA Records in 2014, she released her Purrr! EP and followed that with her debut album Amala in spring 2018, but it was her August 2018 release of “MOOO!” which catapulted her into the mainstream and was met with critical acclaim.

Doja Cat released her sophomore GRAMMY-nominated platinum album Hot Pink in November 2019 to mass critical acclaim; the album has garnered over 6 billion streams worldwide. It features “Streets”, the viral sensation that soundtracked the ‘Silhouette Challenge,’ one of the biggest TikTok trends to date and her GRAMMY-nominated #1 smash record “Say So” which has been RIAA certified 6x platinum and catapulted Doja into global superstardom.

With over 20 billion worldwide streams to date, Doja’s creativity and showmanship as a performer have been praised time and time again, she has delivered unique and show-stopping performances on nearly all the major Award Show stages and music festivals throughout the world. Doja Cat’s GRAMMY award-winning album Planet Her came out in June 2021 and dominated the charts, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and generated the highest first day Spotify streams for an album by a female rapper. GRAMMY award-winning “Kiss Me More” ft. SZA, the lead single off Planet Her is certified 5x platinum by the RIAA and hit #1 at Top 40 and Rhythm radio with over 2.2 billion streams worldwide. That fall, Doja Cat became the first rapper to have 3 songs in the Top 10 at Top 40 radio. Last year, “Woman” went to the top of the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay charts which ascended her to become the first women to have four #1 hits from one album, other hits including “You Right” with The Weeknd and “Need to Know.” She went on to land at #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart for the first time. Amongst others, Doja has won 5 AMAs, 5 Billboard Music Award, 3 MTV VMAs, 3 BMI Awards, 2 MTV EMAs, 1 GRAMMY Award and 1 NAACP Image Award along with garnering a total of 16 GRAMMY Award nominations. Additionally, Doja has been nominated for 20 Billboard Music Awards, 10 MTV VMAs, 9 AMAs, 9 BET Awards, 8 MTV EMAs, 5 BMI Awards and dozens more. Most recently, Doja was named one of TIME100’s Most Influential People of 2023, where she was featured on the cover issue in April 2023 as well as performed at the TIME100 Gala in New York City.

Doja Cat announces massive 2023 North American tour with Ice Spice, Doechii

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rapper-singer Doja Cat — the Grammy Award winner, fashion muse, and creator of many TikTok hits — is set to embark on a 2023 North American tour this fall.

Doja Cat will be joined by song of the summer contender Ice Spice and up-and-coming rapper Doechii, as they open on select dates of her 24-date run. The Scarlet Tour kicks off on Halloween night in San Francisco and runs through December 13, with a final show scheduled in Chicago.

The tour will hit most major cities in the U.S. as well as Toronto.

The announcement arrives a week after Doja Cat released a new single, a fiery rap titled “Attention” that negotiates her relationship with online commentary from fans and critics alike.

Doja Cat first found mainstream fame when her 2018 single, “MOO!”, went viral. Since then, she’s been nominated for many Grammys, including for her No. 1 single “Say So” and most recent album, 2021’s “Planet Her.” In 2022, she won the Grammy for best pop duo performance for her collaboration with SZA, “Kiss Me More.”

In an effort to bypass bots and scalpers, The Scarlet Tour tickets will be available to fans if they register in advance at Ticketmaster through Sunday, June 25 at 10 p.m. Pacific. After that, some fans will receive a presale code. A limited number of tickets will become available to the public on Friday, June 30.

The Weeknd Announces Stadium Tour Dates with Doja Cat and Launches XO Humanitarian Fund

The singer is contributing $1 from each ticket sold on the North American tour to the XO Humanitarian Fund

doja cat tour announcement

Get ready, fans! The Weeknd is going on tour and he's adding some sass by bringing along the one and only Doja Cat .

The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye), announced the first leg of dates for his tour in support of his latest studio album, Dawn FM and his 2020 album After Hours .

The singer, 32, made the announcement on social media with a photo of his tour poster and captioned the post , "AFTER HOURS TIL DAWN WORLD TOUR // LEG 1 : NORTH AMERICA. TICKETS ON SALE MARCH 10 LINK IN BIO."

The first leg of the After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour will launch in his hometown of Toronto in July and will wrap up in Los Angeles in September.

In honor of the announcement, the "Less Than Zero" singer launched the XO Humanitarian Fund with United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) — and with that, the singer is contributing $1 from each ticket sold on the North American tour.

He will also make a donation of $500,000 and $1 million will be contributed by World Food Program USA to the fund.

The star established this fund to support the U.N. World Food Programme's critical food assistance to communities on the brink of starvation in countries like Ethiopia, Madagascar and Yemen.

The tour announcement comes one week after the star released his television special The Weeknd x The Dawn FM Experience on Prime Video.

The "Blinding Lights" musician expressed his excitement while discussing his latest TV project.

"I'm ecstatic to partner with Amazon to premiere the most elaborate live TV special I've ever done," the singer told NME . "Welcome to the next phase of Dawn FM — a purgatory otherworld where live performance, theatre, and performance art collide for a night out at the club."

The news also comes after his birthday celebration in Las Vegas last month, when fans were buzzing after he was spotted kissing DJ Simi Khadra during the outing.

Shortly after, however, a source told PEOPLE that the "Sacrifice" singer and Khadra were not an official item.

"He's dating and is not in a committed relationship with anyone," the source said.

Doja Cat Skips the Pop Megahits in Edgy Coachella Performance

Day Three headliner Doja Cat gave a thrilling end to the weekend’s festivities, bringing an extension of her Scarlet tour to her Sunday night set at Coachella . The Grammy-winning hitmaker last played the festival in 2022; she is the second Black woman to headline the event, after Beyoncé in 2018.

The 28-year-old MC’s performance was a hard-nosed and hot-blooded spectacle, conceived of pure, unadulterated id. Offering little in the way of stage banter, Doja opened with a sample from Madonna’s biting 1994 anthem, “Human Nature” — then blazed through several tracks off her 2023 album, Scarlet , such as “Agora Hills” and “Paint the Town Red.” Sampled with Dionne Warwick’s 1964 classic, “Walk on By,” the latter became Doja’s first Number One song as a soloist last September.

Jordan klepper questions maga supporters outside donald trump's trial on 'the daily show', supreme court justices may do trump and jan. 6 rioters a solid, cher's son argues she's 'unfit to serve' as his conservator.

Doja’s cutting, angsty rap flow was matched in might by a live band and a backdrop designed like an industrial power plant, where she moshed, sparred, and undulated along with her dancers. The theatricality of her performance demanded some memorable sartorial moments: She surfaced in a hooded hazmat suit and yellow gloves for her set opener, “Acknowledge Me,” then stripped down to a shaggy, blond hair suit to perform her venomous rap track, “Demons.” After a thunderous, hard-rock rendition of “Tia Tamera,” she dramatically shaved off the fur, and transitioned into a shibari rope bodysuit to perform “97” while trailed by a giant reproduction of a T. rex skeleton.

She punctually closed the show by 1 a.m. with her song “Wet Vagina,” which made for a risqué final act. Flanked by a group of female backup dancers, Doja writhed and waded through a puddle of mud, making out and rolling about with the ladies in one lusty mass. Fireworks burst through the air as Doja tore away from the pack and marched down the runway, beaming and covered in muck. She’ll be back to reprise her show next Sunday for Weekend Two.

Doja Cat at Coachella review – an electrifying tour de force

Empire Polo Club, Indio, California

Festival headliner delivered an A-game set, ignoring some of her mainstream hits yet bringing enough energy to power what some have called a middling year

D oja Cat took the Coachella main stage as the last official act to perform on Sunday’s bill, becoming the first female rapper to headline the festival. (She’s also only the second Black woman to do so, after Beyoncé in 2018.) Her closer rounded out a Sunday showcase of powerhouse female performers such as Reneé Rapp and Kesha duetting the recession banger TiK ToK – changing the opening line to “wake up in the morning saying fuck P Diddy” – and Victoria Monet grinding through a slick and ultra-sexy set, at one point receiving artfully-simulated oral sex from a background dancer.

It would be diplomatic to say that Doja maintains a distant relationship with her fans, who call themselves kittenz, though their fave does not sanction this moniker. Doja has told those who engage in parasocial relationships with the idea of her to “get off your phone and get a job” and “rethink everything” about their lives. Such boundary-setting has cost her some Instagram followers – around 300,000, to be exact, after going off on them in a social media tirade – but she could care less. “I feel free,” she wrote in an Instagram story after the snafu last year.

So it’s not surprising that Doja kept the stage banter to a minimum; about an hour in, she allowed a cursory, but seemingly genuine, “Thank you everyone.” That was about it. Still, Doja didn’t need to give us the cliched “it’s always been a dream to perform on this stage” monologue to show a deep respect for her audience. She did so by putting on a tour de force of a set, one that merged her musical talents with a clear knack for spectacle. I suspect it will become a staple on best-of-Coachella lists for years to come.

Doja first appeared by popping up on the stage’s extended catwalk, opening the night further back in the crowd, so those of us who hadn’t made it to the pit got a good look at her, too. She first wore an all-white hazmat suit. I thought it was a little Patrick Bateman; the girl next to me remarked that Doja looked like “a whole-ass sperm”.

Whatever the inspiration, she took that off pretty quickly, revealing extra-long blonde hair that went well past her butt, and a matching tunic also made of hair. Her background dancers matched in their own full hair suits, and when paired with their syncopated moves, the vibe was a little Bob Fosse meets Fraggle Rock. The South African a capella group The Joy encircled Doja during Shutcho, a diss track for haters that the group turned into a melodic, choir-like crescendo.

Though Doja is a very 2020s pop star, terminally online and well-versed in the meme ecosystem, she didn’t rely on many gimmicks to make it through her set. The stage design was sparse and industrial. Her numerous outfit changes kept the same off-white palette, very Virgil Abloh-esque aesthetic: sculptural, sleek, architectural. My favorite look was a shaggy bikini set by Entire Studios that could have been a reference to Jane Fonda as Barbarella, or just a sartorial nod to the concept of merkins.

Doja tapped A$AP Rocky, 21 Savage and a giant recreation of a T-Rex fossil for guest stars. During her penultimate song, Paint the Town Red, which samples Dionne Warwick’s 1963 hit Walk on By, I wondered for a moment if Doja was about to make my entire life and bring out the octogenarian legend herself. Instead, she did perhaps the opposite of that and rolled around in a sapphic mud pit with her background dancers for the finale, Wet Vagina.

Though Doja found mainstream success in the pop arena with early pandemic groovers like Kiss Me More and Say So, her Coachella set stuck to rap. Understandably, much of it came from her latest release, last year’s Scarlet. She described the album as a“masculine” response to her desire of moving away from pop princess-dom.

This meant that the fans who were there for Doja’s more accessible fare may have been disappointed by the exclusion of those songs – when the set ended, many mulled around the stage as if they were sure she’d come back rearing into Say So. (Again, she didn’t.)

But to me, it didn’t matter: Doja followed her gut, performed the songs she felt represented her best, all presented in an energetic, top-of-game triumph. For all the endless chatter this year about a lackluster lineup, Doja proved she’s worthy of a headline spot, so long as the people in charge – and, crucially, her fans – trust her to do it her own way.

Doja Cat's Headlining Coachella 2024 Performance Earns A Massive Round Of Applause From Social Media

D oja Cat headlined the closing night (April 14) of Coachella 2024 ‘s first weekend with a rap-heavy performance that surprisingly left behind well-known pop hits like “Say So” and “Kiss Me More.” Her setlist featured unexpected guests like ASAP Rocky and 21 Savage, who joined the Los Angeles native for “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!” and “n.h.i.e,” respectively.

The show opened with “ACKNOWLEDGE ME” and included a medley of hits like “Agora Hills,” “ Demons ,” and “WYM Freestyle.” Meanwhile, other songs, such as “MASC” with Teezo Touchdown and  “OKLOSER,” received live renditions for the first time. Attendees were also treated to a dinosaur skeleton controlled by puppeteers and her backup dancers dressed like Yetis throughout.

Plus, the finale was as Doja as it gets. The artist performed “Wet Vagina” knee-deep in mud before kissing the crowd goodbye. Check it out below.

Following Doja’s set, several fans took to social media to share their reviews. “Doja is THE performer. Say what you want about her personality and the plethora of genres she’s conquered, of which many others have merely attempted, but you’ll never be able to clock her ability on that stage!” wrote one user.

Another person said , “Every now and then, a superstar comes into the game with actual vision, talent, execution, and drive. We’re gonna be [seeing] Doja Cat for [a very] long time.” Read more reactions below.

After her performance, Doja spoke with Vogue , who published their conversation today (April 15). “This show is very special because it’s a representation of how I’ve evolved in the past two years,” she explained. “It’s poetic to how I’ve come to love myself for who I am. The plastic and synthetic materials all are a nod to this sort of ‘scientific’ exploration of the self — a dissecting of the mind and deeper understanding of what makes us the way we are.”

The “Attention” artist is slated to take her “ The Scarlet Tour ” to the U.K. and Europe in June. The American leg, which included opening acts Ice Spice and Doechii, ended in December 2023.

Doja Cat Gets Provocative at Coachella With Mud Dancing, Dinosaurs, Yetis, 21 Savage and a Determination to Avoid the Oldies

INDIO, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 14: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Doja Cat performs at the Coachella Stage during the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at Empire Polo Club on April 14, 2024 in Indio, California. (Photo by Arturo Holmes/Getty Images for Coachella)

Doja Cat has rarely turned in an uninteresting or unprovocative performance, and her headlining set Sunday night at Coachella offered a plethora of looks and concepts designed to prompt dazzlement and debate among the viewing audience. Dinosaur skeletons? Mudbath choreography? Twerking Yetis? Her hour-and-a-half set just about had it all…

Popular on Variety

The set ended with a big, brown bang, as Doja took to the center platform out in the audience she had begun the show on — no longer clean and gleaming, but filled with mud — for “Wet Vagina.” Soon, her phalanx of dancers joined her there, but this was no mud wrestling exhibition, as the choreography continued just as studiously as it had back on the main stage, albeit with all the women down on their knees for this last round of literally dirty dancing. It was like Woodstock ’95 inverted, with the audience kept safely away from an artists-only slimefest.

This was hardly the only memorable setpiece. Not very much earlier, Doja Cat had been sharing the thrust ramp with a giant prehistoric beast, brought to life by a group of puppeteers controlling the skeleton from underneath, walking the dinosaur, as it were.

Even Doja’s hair changed during the set, as for most of it she bore the extremely close-cropped, blonde look fans have become familiar with. At the outset, though, she was wearing a blonde wig so long that it was if she had taken a look at Ice Spice’s extraordinarily long red wig from the night before and said, “Hold my beer.” Eventually that look led her from the ramp onto the stage, where she was awaited by a team of dancers dressed up as platinum Bigfoots, with long, blonde tresses of their own that just happened to be covering their faces, as well as the rest of their bodies.

Guest Teezo Touchstone had the most potentially dangerous costuming of the night, wearing a vest covered with spikes in both front and back, making it painfully clear that he and Doja would not be embracing at the end of their shared number, the brand new “MASC.” The other two guests who shared the stage with her, 21 Savage (who performed his own “n.h.i.e.”) and ASAP Rocky (who joined the headliner on her new “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!”), were less thorny in their brief appearances. Rocky’s costuming looked close enough to what he’d worn in also making a guest appearance with the previous night’s headliner, Tyler, the Creator, that some viewers wondered if he’d just slept in his flamboyant clothes.

Although the aforementioned four top 10 hits made their way into the set, as one commenter said in the chat, “She seems to be finished with her pop era.” Nearly every song included emphasized Doja’s well-respected rapping skills over the pop singing heard on some of the absent hits. The general avoidance of “Planet Her” was surprising for anyone who caught her “Scarlet”-based arena tour last year, during which she did perform the relative oldies casual fans might’ve expected to hear, albeit sometimes in refreshed arrangements.

Was it polarizing as hell? That much was obvious from even fleeting looks at the chat, where the tenor of the comments ranged from “Now, that’s how to headline,” “That was fiiiiire” and a constant (yes) “Mother is mothering” to “She literally skipped all her hits” and “Stop playing ‘Scarlet’!” (some viewers still being under the impression that a chat is a request line). Forgettable? Not remotely. If the setlist wasn’t necessarily what the usual rules of show business would have dictated, then, to paraphrase the most oft-quoted line from “Paint the Town Red”: Bitch, she segued what she segued.
