Pods of dolphins swim close by during dolphin watching cruise in Perth

Here is an adventure that won’t leave your mind for a long time. Come aboard to swim with dolphins in the wild. Yes, you read that right.  Embark on a journey to the secluded beaches and bays of Rockingham and frolic with any of over 200 dolphins that inhabit the area. Cruise comfortably on the luxury custom built vessel.  When silver grey dorsal fins start to appear on the water’s surface, brace yourself for the best swim of your life. Put on your snorkel and mask and zip your wetsuit up. The friendly crew will make sure that you are seated comfortably on the deck, all ready to go.  As soon as the vessel is in the right position and the skipper gives you the green signal, take the leap. Embrace this once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to swim with the friendly acrobats of the sea. These wild dolphins are not trained to do any tricks for you. Instead, have a fun time with them - swimming, splashing, whistling, and laughing.  Remember that this is a wild encounter. Please be respectful and approach the dolphins with caution. The dedicated and enthusiastic crew has nurtured a beautiful friendship with the dolphins, leading to an outstanding success rate of more than 99%. All are welcome to join in and enjoy the adventure. You do not have to be a strong swimmer or prior snorkelling practice. Our professional crew members will introduce you to snorkelling. They will make sure that the nervous or less experienced are at ease throughout the experience.

Dolphin watch adventure cruise

We were both all prepared for what appeared to be a great fun-filled day. We had been waiting to do something like this for a while, but usually the cost was too much, so the ideal opportunity arose on groupon for an adventure . The date we arranged in advance suited us well and worked around our trip in WA. Being a veterinarian , I love marine life, and fascinated by the ocean so we booked the dolphin cruise , to see how it was then maybe consider a dolphin swim next time. The day was sunny, and warm with a slight breeze. A perfect day we thought for dolphin observation. We arrived at penguin island after taking the chartered ferry from rockingham. We had the tour around half 10, so went a short, and brief walk around the island . The walk was extremely brief and pleasant . Some nice sights, but nothing overly fascinating . Our main aim was for dolphin watching . We then headed to the jetty to await the boat returning from the previous excursion . On arrival they let the previous visitors disembark, and then failed to allow us on. The crew had a quick discussion and decided to disallow us to take the tour as scheduled, as the sea conditions were apparently too dangerous and rough. I can understand the safety of the crew, and civilians are of up most improtance. We were advised we could reschedule or arrange a refund from groupon. We were also offered a seal tour instead, an hour later, however we were keen to do the dolphin tour and had already seen the seals on previous tour. We headed to reception to arrange a refund, but was advised to contact groupon. The staff member was not too helpful and suggested it was our concer as unavailable to rebook. We were on vacation and cannot extend our trip to rebook a tour that was already planned way in advance . Groupon were also no help. We were never able to process a refund or make the most of the excursion. We gave up on pursuing the refund as it proved extremely difficult, and customer service was Terrible. I gues these firms want your money, but once have it, not keen to give back to the customer, even if merited . Potentially the cruise tour appeared a great idea, but it turned out a waste of money. I would arrange a dolphin tour elsewhere - possibly monkey Mia, or busselton in future.

Hi there. Thanks for your feedback and apologize that you have found our services to be less than satisfactory, however, in response to the issues you have raised I believe our crew have acted correctly. It appears that your cruise has had to be cancelled at the last moment due to a strong sea breeze. This decision would not have been taken lightly and would only have been made if the skipper felt that conditions were unsafe to conduct the cruise- passenger safety and comfort has to always be our primary concern. We watch the weather forecast very carefully to avoid this kind of situation as our preference is to cancel a cruise the day before so that passengers have the opportunity to plan something else to do with their day. Unfortunately conditions must have deteriorated during the day and it was unfortunate but necessary to cancel at the last moment. Our crews advice to reschedule or take the sea lion cruise (which is conducted within more protected inshore waters) was also correct. The idea being to minimize further inconvenience by offering you an alternative cruise so that your day was not completely wasted for making the trip across to Penguin Island or to rebook you on another day at your earliest convenience. Our crews advice to contact Groupon to arrange a refund was also correct. It's standard practise within the tourism industry where a tour is booked through a third party (whether it be a discount website such as Groupon or a travel agent) that any refunds can only be approved and processed by the third party from who you purchased the product from. Had you have booked the cruise direct through our company, we would have processed a refund for you immediately. However since you chose to purchase through Groupon at the discounted price, any refunds must be approved by them and are subject to their terms and conditions. The last thing our company wants is for people to go away disappointed with our cruises or any aspects of our operation- if you would please email me your contact details and the date of the tour I will do my best to persuade Groupon to approve a refund for you. My email is [email protected] For anyone else reading this review, you can find more reviews on our Dolphin Watch Adventure Cruise on our Penguin Island listing on Trip Advisor which will give you a better idea of this experience.

We did the swim with the dolphin excursion which was fantastic! We saw plenty of dolphins and had plenty of chances to swim amongs them. The guides were great at helping some of the nervous swimmers. You do not have to be a good swimmers at all to do this, however the downside is that you are seeing the dolphins whilst 'attached' to a group of people. We had a chance later to just swim around the bay. Rockingham beach itself is lovely with clear shallow water. Worth the money!

Hi there and thanks very much for your great rating and review of our swim with wild dolphins tour. We really appreciate your feedback. In regards to your comment about 'the downside is being attached while seeing the dolphins' I would just like to explain our swimming technique and why we use it. After years of trialling various methods of dolphin swimming, we have found that getting our experienced guides to tow swimmers amongst the dolphins is by far the most consistently successful way of interacting with them. It eliminates all the arms and legs that would be splashing around which can potentially disturb the dolphins and result in them ceasing to interact. Our 99% success rate is as a result of understanding the dolphins very well and knowing how to apply the etiquette required to get close to them (or how to give them space) regardless of what sort of mood they're in or behaviour that is occurring. This etiquette is not something that can be taught in the short space of a day trip and hence our guides ensure that our passengers are 'doing the right thing' by towing our swimmers amongst the dolphins using the aqua scooters. It's important to remember that these are totally wild animals and interacting with our swimmers is totally their choice- our relationship is based on friendship and mutual trust and we are not always the dolphins number 1 priority. Our swimming technique is about giving everyone the best chance of a quality interaction by ensuring our guides have control over our swimmers in the water. Some days if the dolphins are up for it, we do allow our swimmers to let go and swim freely- this will normally only happen at the end of a swim to ensure that if someone does make a wrong move and the dolphins choose to cease interacting, all passengers have already had a great dolphin experience. Thanks again for the great review and we hope you visit again soon.

The guides were knowledgeable and very informative. They made sure that everyone was happy and took special care of the more nervous passengers. The dolphins were a little hard to find at first but they persisted and we ended up swimming with more than 30 dolphins. The whole day was a once in a lifetime experience. Friendly crew a great boat and a wonderful day all round. Thank you for such a great day!!

Hi there and thank you so much for the great rating and review of Penguin Island. It does take some time some days to find a group of dolphins that are suitable to work with but being wild animals they set the schedule rather than us! Really glad you enjoyed the experience and your feedback is much appreciated : )

We thoroughly enjoyed our day on the tour.. The dolphins were at close proximity and water was beautifully clear. When I booked this trip I was expecting to be very "touristy". It was a great day and I would love to do it again! The staff were great and very knowledgable. Us enjoying the tour was their priority. Even helping one young girl, who was not confident in the water and taking her solo, so as she would not miss out on the experience. The dolphins we viewed were all wild animals, they were not fed at all.. Once again I loved, loved this tour!!

Hi there and thank you so much for your kind review of our Swim with Wild Dolphins cruise. I really appreciate your feedback on our crew. They're a great bunch and love what they do and it's always great to hear that our customers appreciate the effort they put in to ensure every visitor gets the best possible experience on the day. Thanks again and we hope you visit us again soon.

We went on a swim with the dolphins tour on a lovely satursay morning and from the start the crew were so polite abd friendly and incredibly enthusiastic. Everything was provided from sea sickness remedies to wetsuits. Once we got going, it took us a while to find some dolphins but as soon as we did, it was truly amazing!! The crew were so knowledgable about these animals and made you feel so comfortable. I would definately recommend this trip, although you have to be patient as i was getting a bit worried we wouldnt see any dolphins in the beginning. The crew definately made the day and i have already told my parents and friends to check it out!!

Thanks for your great rating and review. Really glad you enjoyed the experience. I appreciate your advice on needing to be patient. That is perhaps the only down side to working with wild animals in that they don't always stick to the schedule! That's the reason why we don't set a finishing time on the cruise as some days it takes a while to find them and then they might not always be in the mood to interact so we have to leave them and start searching for another group. By not setting a finishing time, we don't have pressure to be back at the jetty at a set time and that allows us time to ensure that we get a great dolphin swim before heading back. That's the reason why we have a 99% success rate! Thanks again for the review and we hope you visit again soon.

If you ever have the opportunity to have this experience you will not be disappointed. My friend Lynne and I had the most amazing day 14 October 2012, swimming with the dolphins. Right from when we were picked up and boarded the boat the staff were professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable about what we were to experience. It was awesome, fabulous and recommend this adventure to everyone. Sea sickness, food, sonar equipment and wetsuits are all provided. You are very safe and in good hands with all the crew. Thank you to all the crew for this most wonderful experience. I will be back. Gail Page

Hi Gail. Thanks very much for the great rating and review. Really appreciate your comments on our crew as they are very passionate about what they do and get a real kick out of receiving fan mail so I will pass your kind words onto them. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Perth and we look forward to seeing you again : )
