A few quick tips before kicking off your week in Dubai

Best time to visit dubai.

Seriously, you must avoid summer, from June to September. In July and August, temperatures average 45ºC and it is extremely humid. In September, temperatures drop slightly but humidity still persists, so you can’t really hang out in outdoors, even at night. Try to come from mid-October to mid-May.

By the way, remember that the United Arab Emirates is a Muslim country which follows very strict Muslim Sharia laws. As a result, Western tourists need to be a bit careful and not behave as they would do in their home countries.

You don’t really need to be afraid but just apply common sense.

Know when to dress modestly

Dubai is a society with two sets of morals. On the one hand, in the places where the expats hang out, the beaches are filled with girls wearing fine bikinis and, in the glamorous clubs, you are likely to see girls dancing in dresses which are quite close to a bikini.

These areas are very tolerant regarding the way you dress but, in more conservative areas of the city, basically, in those places where the locals hang out, you should always cover both your shoulders and your knees but the good news is that you never need to cover your head.

For more info, read what to wear in Dubai .

Public displays of affection are not tolerated in the UAE

Not just kissing, but even hugging in public would be considered unlawful, including in Western areas. Once, I was kicked out from a bar because, since there was no place to sit, my girlfriend was sitting on my legs.

To be fair, the security guy told her to stand up three times but we completely ignored him, basically, because we found their norm to be absolutely ridiculous.

During the holy month of Ramadan

I don’t recommend coming to UAE during Ramadan but, if you happen to be there, – just make sure not to eat, drink, chew gum or smoke in daylight and in public, otherwise, you will get a fine.

Moreover, during Ramadan, many bars close, there is barely any event going on and, basically, life stops pretty much. Seriously, if you can avoid it, don’t come here during Ramadan.

Remember that, when driving, alcohol tolerance is 0

Driving with even a tiny percentage of alcohol in your blood warrants jail time. In three years of living and driving there, I never saw any alcohol control test but, if you had an accident and they found alcohol in your veins, you would, literally, be completely f&”?%ed.

And the same goes for drugs

The UAE also has 0 drug tolerance. Even if they found you had 0.1g of weed at the airport customs, you would be done and likely put away for a long time.

This seems exaggerated but it can actually happen and the truth is that there are quite a few real horror stories from people who happened to have micro-remains from their last joint in their pocket and the dogs were able to smell it.

Alcohol availability

For your information, in Dubai, you can drink alcohol. Typically, only 4 to 5-star hotels can serve alcohol but the point is that people open regular bars and pubs and then they just attach it to a hotel.

As you can imagine, there are fancy hotels absolutely everywhere and each one of them has several bars attached to it, so finding a place where to drink is not a problem at all.

Furthermore, you can also find plenty of liquor stores around town but, unfortunately, you need a special license which only expats can get.

Alternatively, if you can drive, there is a liquor store named Barracuda in Umm Al Quwain, around 90km outside of Dubai, towards Ras Al Khaimah.

Remember that, in Dubai, many websites and internet calling services, like WhatsApp or Skype, are blocked and, if you want to access them, you will need a VPN. Read: How to find the right VPN for Dubai and the UAE

what to do in Dubai for 3 days

Tours and activities in Dubai

In your Dubai itinerary, there will be plenty of activities such as going on a trip to Musandam – an enclave within UAE that belongs to Oman – a desert safari or even going on a half-day trip to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, you may want to go on a tour, as it is much cheaper than going by taxi and even than renting a car.

These are just some of their most popular activities:

  • Dubai Burj Khalifa ticket Floor 124 & 125 – Climb the tallest building on Earth.
  • Louvre Abu Dhabi: skip-the-line tickets – Skip the endless lines of the museum.
  • Dubai: Hot air balloon, desert safari, quad biking – Enjoy the sunrise from 4000 feet above the ground.
  • Dubai Aquarium & Burj Khalifa combo tickets – The tallest building on Earth and one of the most outstanding aquariums.
  • Premium red dunes, camel safari & BBQ – Desert activities.
  • Speedboat tour around Marina, Palm & Burj Al Arab – Explore these areas from the sea.
  • Burj Khalifa tickets to floor 148 – For going to the highest floor you’ll need a special ticket.
  • Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Mosque tour – Tour to the most breathtaking mosque in the region.

For more info check: The top 25 activities, excursions and day trips from Dubai

How to access blocked websites in Dubai

As you may know, in Dubai, the internet is censored, which means that many websites which you may need to use regularly are blocked.

Besides gambling, pornography, and Israeli-related sites, some of these blocked websites are:

  • WhatsApp Calls
  • Google Hangouts

In order to access them, you will need something called VPN (Virtual Private Network), and I recommend ExpressVPN the most reliable VPN ever.

If you don’t know anything about VPNs, read how to find the right VPN for Dubai

7 Days in Dubai – Transportation: How to move around

How to move around dubai.

By metro – There are 2 metro lines which take you to most touristic sites. The metro has plenty of air-conditioning and it is pretty modern. A single ride costs less than a US dollar but just bear in mind that distances in Dubai are huge, so going from one place to another may take some time. Also, the metro goes to the most common touristic places but, beyond that, you will be very limited.

By taxi –  The way to go. If you count the price per kilometer, it is inexpensive but, since distances are long, moving around can be costly. The shortest ride costs around 15AED (4USD). Going from the Marina to Old Dubai may cost around 60-70AED (16-19USD).

explore uae travel

How to travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi

Bus –  There’s a bus every twenty minutes from 6am to 11pm, from the Al Ghubaiba Bus Station in Dubai that takes you to Abu Dhabi. The buses are great, complete with air-conditioning and the cost from Dubai to Abu Dhabi is a mere 25AED (7USD).

Taxi –  A trip from the Dubai airport to Abu Dhabi will cost you 300AED (81USD), one-way.

Etihad Coach Service –  There’s also the free Etihad coach service from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, for those who travel with Etihad in Economy. Tip: Make your free coach reservation 24 hours before your trip via Etihad’s website.

How to travel from Dubai to Sharjah

Public transportation – You can take the metro from Dubai to Rashidya Station in Sharjah in no time. You can also catch a bus to Sharjah from Deira bus station, which is only 15 minutes from the Dubai airport by taxi. If you’re in Bur Dubai, grab a bus from Bur Dubai Al Ghubaiba station to Sharjah.

Taxi – A taxi from Dubai to Sharjah will cost you 150AED ($40).

Note that, whereas it’s pretty easy to travel from city to city by public transportation, in both Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, it’s not very convenient to move around if you don’t have your own car. Therefore, you should consider renting one if you don’t want to depend on taxis.

If you are planning to go outside of Dubai, I highly recommend you rent a car because the public transportation system is not convenient at all.

The good news is that gas is very cheap and the car rental price is quite fair and, if you are from any country within the European Union, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, among some others, you can rent a car with your current driving license. For the rest of the nationalities, you will need a valid international driving license.

3 days in Dubai

Where to stay in Dubai for a week

Dubai is a huge city with huge distances, composed of so many neighborhoods, so different from each other.

Choosing the area you want to stay in will depend on what you actually want to visit in Dubai, as well as on your budget, as prices vary enormously by area.

Moreover, if you are visiting the cities of Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, you need to decide whether to visit them on a day trip or spend the night there as well.

I recommend you stay one week in Dubai because it is the only place where there is something going on at night and evenings. After 7pm, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are pretty boring.

I highly recommend you doing some proper research before choosing which area to stay at. For example, if you decide to stay in the Old City because you are on a budget, you should know that the beach of the Marina is more than 30km away.

A taxi would cost you around 75AED (20USD) and by metro, it would take almost 2 hours, so you should really think twice.

That’s why I decided to write a very comprehensive post which will help you with that: Which area to stay in Dubai: A guide to find the right accommodation

5 days in Dubai

Dubai itinerary: 7 days in the UAE

Don’t forget: Best desert safaris in Dubai

My suggested Dubai itinerary involves visiting the most touristic sites on day 1 and 2, Old Dubai on the 3rd day and, if you are here for more than 3 days, visiting off the beaten track places on the 4th.

Dubai itinerary – Places to visit Dubai in 7 days

Day 1 – The glamorous, touristic Dubai

Remember to check: Best excursions, activities and day trips from Dubai

If you are visiting Dubai  for just one day, I recommend you visit the two most famous landmarks:

Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa

Dubai is about extravagant and nonsensical buildings and, therefore, the two main attractions in the city are the largest mall in the world and the tallest building on Earth, which is attached to the mall.

I personally don’t like the Dubai Mall, basically, because I am not into shopping but I like the Burj Khalifa. By the way, you should know that, despite being the biggest mall, they extended it in 2018 by adding an additional luxury section.

Read: Tips + How to travel to Saudi Arabia

Dubai itinerary 4 days

As per the Burj Khalifa, being the tallest building you will ever see, nobody can deny that this 160-storey building is actually impressive.

It won’t be the tallest one for very long though, as its two biggest competitors, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, are currently building two brand-new towers which will be taller than the Burj Khalifa itself.

You can actually go to the top, but only to the 125th floor and, for some extra money, to the 148th. If you want to save money, you must book your tickets in advance.

In the evening, don’t miss the Dubai Fountain, which is the world’s largest musical fountain. It takes place every half an hour, from 6pm to 11pm.

Pro tip – I recommend you have dinner at Mezza House , my favorite Arab Restaurant in Dubai, serving the most delicious Lebanese food. It is right next to Burj Khalifa and it’s not particularly expensive.

Remember that you can visit Dubai on a half-day city tour .

Where to stay near Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa (Downtown)

Remember to check my guide to find the right accommodation in Dubai per area

Downtown is one of the fanciest and most expensive areas to stay at. Most people living here are expats, especially Arab Expats but a lot of Europeans. You should stay here if you want to be close to the best shopping areas and fanciest restaurants.

The most budget choice (Hostel) – The solo traveler – If you are on a tight budget, this brand-new hostel is right next to the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa, it has a Carrefour just downstairs, has mind-blowing views and offers budget dorms. If you are a solo traveler , think no further!

Top-rated hotel – Rove Downtown – The best value for money in Downtown. Not expensive but its rooms and facilities are right at the luxury boundaries. For this price, you can’t find anything better in Dubai.

Dubai itinerary 7 days

Souq Madinat and Burj Al-Arab

Some people claim that Souq Madinat is a fake bazaar that tries to imitate a traditional Arab souq.

I like to focus on the positive part of travel so, for me, this is just the adaptation of an Arab bazaar to the real concept of Dubai, which is a 21st century, luxurious and modern city.

Souq Madinat is actually pretty, has some cool canals with giant turtles swimming around and, since the place is attached to a couple of hotels, there are plenty of bars and high-quality restaurants serving alcohol.

Pro-tip – Have dinner at Tortuga , the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Dubai. When I say authentic I mean Mexicans come here to eat because they serve traditional dishes and not fake Tex-Mex food like nachos, quesadillas, and burritos. My girlfriend is Mexican and we used to go there all the time.

Moreover, from Souq Madinat, you get amazing views of Burj Al-Arab, the most luxurious hotel in the world. You can’t visit it though, unless you book a tour in advance, which often involves eating at one of the restaurants.

Where to stay in Souk Madinat

In Souq Madinat there are only 5-star hotels, so if you are on a budget, stay away from here.

Top-rated hotel – Jumeirah Mina A’Salam – Well, this Arabic-luxury-thematic hotel is absolutely gorgeous and quiet, located right next to the canal and with fantastic views of both the sea and Burj Al-Arab. It is one of the best luxury options in town.

Dubai itinerary 5 days

Day 2 – Dubai Marina and JBR

Marina and jumeirah beach residence.

The Western expat land, home to a pleasant beach walk that, somehow, tries to replicate Santa Monica’s in LA, is a set of skyscrapers, which is more like a resort than an actual neighborhood but the truth is that there are a few hundred people living in them.

With as little as 10 or 15 years of history and a pretty decent beach where you can ride a camel while staring at 60-floor buildings, Marina is the place where people hang out, from tourists to Western expats, locals and 18-year old kids who spend the day driving around the area just to show off their fancy cars.

You can also book a speed boat tour around the Marina . CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE

4 days in Dubai

I lived in the Marina for 3 years and, despite sounding like a cheesy and pretentious area, this is the nicest part to live in Dubai, basically because it is the most Western-friendly.

You can easily get there by metro by going to a station which used to be called Marina but now they keep on changing the name constantly. Damac Properties is how they call it now I think.

Pro tip – The beach is nice but it is mostly filled with tourists. Expats go to Kite Beach, located in Jumeirah.

Where to stay close to Marina

The most budget choice (Hostel) – Top of Marina – If you wanna stay in one of the highest floors with great views of the Marina skyline, this hostel is truly amazing. It is actually located in the building I used to live and it has a few swimming pools, a gym and just everything you need. If you are on a budget and want to stay in the greatest place, this is your hostel!

The top-rated option – The Address Dubai Marina – This is my favorite building in the whole Dubai Marina, as it is just simple but impressive at the same time and located right next to the canal. It is one of the top-rated 5-star hotels in the city and has the best bars in the whole Marina.

Dubai itinerary 6 days

Day 3 – The Palm, Jumeirah, Kite Beach and Jumeirah Mosque

The palm jumeirah.

After the Marina, if you continue along the coast you find the beginning of The Palm, that famous palm-shaped island which is attached to Dubai mainland and has an Atlantis Hotel replica at its furthest edge.

You can get to the very edge by a monorail that runs 20 meters above the street and, for me, this is the best part of this tiny trip, as you can get a feeling of the island’s shape. Otherwise, when you are walking over it, it is like being in a normal street plus the island itself is boring.

You can also book a speed boat tour around The Palm . CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE

Where to stay in The Palm

Unless you want to stay in Atlantis, which is the famous hotel, I don’t see a reason why you should stay in The Palm. There is nothing to do and it is far away from everything. In three years, I came here just three times and only because I had some company events and meetings.

The best – Atlantis – What can I say which you don’t know yet? The Atlantis is one of the most famous landmarks in the city and a replica of the hotel you find in the Bahamas. It also has a waterpark and loads of bars and restaurants.

explore uae travel

Jumeirah, Kite Beach and Jumeirah Mosque

Following the road along the coast, 18km after The Palm (I already told you that distances in Dubai are huge), you find Jumeirah, a set of streets filled with expensive villas where the local Emiratis live.

I like this area because it is one of the very few actual walkable parts of Dubai and also because you find the Jumeirah Mosque, a small but beautiful mosque which non-Muslim people can visit and the only cultural site to visit in the new part of the city.

There is no metro line to come here but the bus leaves from the main street in Marina.

Pro tip – Go to Bu Qtair Fish restaurant , a pretty budget seafood restaurant that serves fresh fish cooked in the traditional Gulf way.

Dubai trip itinerary

Old Dubai is my favorite part of the UAE as it is the only place with a real soul. You can easily there by metro. The place is huge though and it has several metro stations.

Bastiqaya and Bur Dubai

Inhabited by Indians since many hundreds years ago, when the local Arabs were still Bedouins living in the desert, this used to be one of the greatest centers of the pearl trade and industry, one of the region’s main economic pillars.

Today, Bastiqaya and Bur Dubai are still mostly inhabited by Indians who are able to provide a deeper cultural feeling than soulless Dubai. Here you will find authentic (and cheap) Indian eateries filled with tens of Indians, real bazaars and traditional architecture.

Bastiqaya is the place to get lost among its narrow alleys while savoring some real authentic cuisine in the many restaurants where, according to Indians, they serve the best Indian food in the world, because it tastes like back home but it is much more hygienic.

This is, by far, my most favorite place and the reason why I finally liked Dubai.

If you are interested in Old Dubai, you can book a Street Food tour around the maze streets of Bastiqaya. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE

2 days in dubai

Don’t forget to check out the Dubai Museum, which is built inside a fortress from the 18th century, the Creek, the Textile Souk and a real Hindu Temple that holds real Hindu ceremonies.

Pro tip – If you need to buy any electronic, Bur Dubai has the cheapest stores in town, much cheaper than anywhere in Europe.

Where to stay in Bur Dubai

In Bur Dubai you find some of the cheapest accommodation in town:

The most budget – Gold Plaza Guest House – This is not a nice hotel but it is really cheap. If you look for the cheapest option, this is your place.

The top-rated – Raffles Dubai – A top luxury hotel but much cheaper than other similar options from Marina or Downtown. If you look for affordable luxury, this is your place.

Cross the Dubai Creek in an Abra, from Bur Dubai to Deira

Pay 1 AED and enjoy a fabulous ride in the abra, the traditional water taxi to cross the atmospheric Dubai Creek from Bur Dubai to Deira on the opposite side. The quaint old wooden boat has a fishtail carved out of wood.

one week in Dubai

Deira and the spice market souq

From saffron, cinnamon, cardamom, sumac and turmeric, Deira has the most traditional and photogenic souq, selling all sorts of spices, to the extent that any Indian can actually cook any curry they can come up with.

Deira and the gold souq

If you are into jewelry and gold, this souq sells some of the cheapest gold in the world and its biggest attraction is one ring which is claimed to be the biggest ring on Earth, which doesn’t make any sense because it is so big that your entire body would fit into it, so it is a completely useless ring.

Where to stay in Deira

Deira also offers plenty of budget accommodation and the biggest advantage is that it is very close to the airport.

Budget – Mark Inn Hotel Deira – Simple but clean, cheap and excellent Middle Eastern service. For people on a budget, this is a really good option.

Top-rated – Rove City Center – This hotel has the largest number of really positive reviews, located in the new and fancy part of Deira. Excellent service and super modern facilities.

Day 5 – Get off the beaten track

These are my top off the beaten track activities to do in Dubai .

You can’t do everything in one day but you can choose 1 or 2 or replace some of the previous fancy stuff with any of these places:

Camel Racing

Be part of the heart-pumping action that is so integral to the Emiratis’ life at the Al Marmoom Racetrack deep in the desert sands.

It’s an experience like no other; about 60 camels rush out from the gates, long legs flying in every which direction, running as fast as they can down the track while the jockeys steer and hold on for dear life.

They are followed by their owners in 4X4s, yelling at their camels and jockeys to do better. The excitement is contagious and soon you’ll be screaming at your favorite camel (yes, you actually read that), just as you would at a horse race.

The camel race is one of the most traditional activities in the Arab Gulf and will be one of the highlights of your Dubai itinerary.

The races take place on Friday and Saturday, from October to April.

For more information, check this website .

places to visit in Dubai in 5 days

Horse racing in Meydan

The national sport in the UAE is horse racing and, in fact, they have some of the best and most expensive horses in the world.

If you want to experience something very traditional but modern at the same time, you can’t miss the weekly horse racing at Meydan racing stadium, which takes place every Thursday at 7pm, from November to March.

The races are impressive, so is the atmosphere, as all types of people attend: from wealthy locals to expats and laborers. The general entry ticket is free but, of course, you can also get a premium seat, which gives you access to the bar and restaurant.

For further information, visit the  official website .

explore uae travel

Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding

The Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding is one governmental entity which tries to promote and create awareness of the Emirati culture, a culture which most foreigners have very little exposure to.

You can visit the center and book different tours but I recommend the lunch tour, which involves spending 1.5 hours with local Emiratis over a traditional Emirati lunch, who will explain you the customs in the UAE to you.

Since you will be having lunch with these men, the interaction will be higher and much closer than just visiting the center on a guided tour.

Heritage exclusive & eco-friendly Desert Safari

If you want a real desert, exclusive and off the beaten track adventure, go to the Heritage Safari, where you will drive, very slowly and quietly, over a track from where you can actually see oryx and real desert wildlife.

The cars are real, refurbished Land Rovers from the 50s and, unlike the regular desert safari, which is very close to the city and there is much noise from people and other cars, here you will find complete silence and the real feeling of what a desert is like.

You will have to book it in advance

If you want to go on a regular safari, check: 10 top desert safaris in Dubai

Day 6 – Day trip to Al Ain

After getting tired of Dubai, it is time to get outside of the city and, if you still want to experience some traditional culture, I strongly recommend you go to the Camel Market of Al Ain, which is a bustling, chaotic animal market, where you can bargain over the price of a camel and where you will find, literally, hundreds and hundreds of camels and a really authentic atmosphere.

Today, the sellers are not Emirati but Pakistani and Indian, even though most likely, the actual owners are locals.

However, the bazaar is still really genuine and, if you wander and wait for long enough, you will see wealthy Emiratis coming with their pickups to bargain for camels and other animals.

Every time I had friends visiting, I never hesitated to take them there, which means that I have been here so many times!

The market is, obviously, free and you will be one of the very few tourists. Al Ain is 1 hour and 30 minutes from Dubai and you can only come here by car.

Moreover, besides the market, Al Ain has also plenty of historical sites like Jahili Fort, a desert fort from the 19th century built in a beautiful oasis.

If you are self-driving, also go to Jebel Hafeet , a mountain whose road was voted among the greatest roads to drive in the world.

For more information, read: Things to do in Al Ain

You can book a full-day tour to Al Ain , which includes a visit to the camel market. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE

Where to stay in Al Ain

As you can see, there are quite a few things to do in Al Ain, so if you want to stay here overnight, I recommend these hotels. Good news is that all the hotels are much cheaper than in Dubai.

Budget – Ayla – This is the most decent, budget option in town, with plenty of good reviews actually.

Top-rated – Ayla Grand Hotel – One of the busiest and most popular options in town, this 5-star hotel is very close to the city center and it is a luxury option with unbeatable prices.

Go to Sheikh Zayed Mosque (a must)

This is one of the largest mosques, with the largest carpet and the largest chandelier in the world.

The mosque can accommodate an astonishing 40,000 worshippers. It has 82 domes plus 1,000 marble columns and 24-carat gold gilded chandeliers everywhere.

One of the world’s biggest-ever chandeliers dominates the main prayer hall; it is 10 meters in diameter and 15 meters in height and weighs twelve tons.

If that weren’t enough, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque has the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet, made by Iranian carpet weavers.

The mosque is surrounded by reflective pools that amplify its beauty. What glitters gold and white in the sun is transformed at night by a unique lightning system which reflects the phases of the moon. The best time to see the mosque is during sunset, at 5:30 P.M. The mosque has a ‘Sunset Hour’ sightseeing set up at that time, to enable visitors to see the best of the mosque.

For more information, read this Abu Dhabi City guide

Dubai travel itinerary

Pro Tip –  Modest clothing is expected when you enter the mosque, including an abaya for women (provided at the entrance) and covered head, shoulders, and knees for the men. The mosque is open from 9 A.M. to 10 P.M. every day and is open daily to visitors except on Friday morning.

How to get there – Well, there is no direct public transportation. You would first need to to take a bus from the outskirts of Dubai to the center of Abu Dhabi and then look for a taxi, which I don’t recommend.

Going directly by taxi from would cost, roughly, around 300AED (one way), so the best way is to rent a car or, even cheaper, to go on a tour.

If you aren’t self-driving, I recommend you book the tour with GetYourGuide , as they have pretty good deals for visiting the mosque which you can combine with visiting other places within Abu Dhabi.

Bonus! Extending your UAE itinerary

Liwa oasis (2 additional days, minimum).

Liwa Oasis is my most favorite place in the whole United Arab Emirates and, actually, one of my top places to visit in the Middle East .

Unfortunately, due to its remoteness and distance, you need a couple of days to enjoy Liwa.

explore uae travel

Liwa Oasis is located in the southern-eastern part of the country, 250km from Abu Dhabi and 350km from Dubai, very close to the Saudi Arabian border.

The oasis is situated on the north-eastern edge of the  Empty Quarter (Rub-al-Jali) , a vast desert spread across the UAE, Saudi Arabia , Oman , and Yemen , which is the largest continuous sea of dunes in the world. It extends over an area of 650,000km² and measures 1,000km in length by 500km in width.

For more information, read my guide to the Liwa Oasis

Where to stay in Liwa

Budget –  Liwa Hotel –  The hotel is all right, nothing fancy but the location is quite unbeatable, right in the middle of the sea dunes, from where you get stunning views of the Empty Quarter.

Top-rated –  Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort –  This resort is the most awesome desert hotel in the country. With some of the most stunning views ever, this 5-star hotel is real Emirati luxury combined with tradition. Even if you are not staying here, it is worth checking out.

This looks very nice itinerary of Dubai, as we all know that Dubai is nowadays top most tourist destination in the whole world and I think this must be the right way of exploring it. Thanks for sharing this lovely post.

Dubai is a must visit destination for shopping enthusiasts and adventure lovers. I found this itinerary is very useful anybody can use it as a reference to plan Dubai holiday.

I love Jumeirah Beach. The glorious Jumeirah Beach lies along Dubai’s coast and gives you the opportunity to swim in the arabic gulf. Visitors to Jumeirah’s hotels can enjoy private beaches offering water sports. If you’re not a hotel guest, you can only relax at Jumeirah Beach Park, the public portion of the beach.

Nice Pics & Information…Thanks for sharing Keep Going! Am also interested visiting Dubai once in my life.

That’s an honest post!! I have never bored in Dubai and it’s luxury life.

What if I have the opportunity to visit in June or July? Is it worth it for a few days? I live in Singapore & I’m from Texas, so I’m accustomed to humidity & heat!

The centre also has two large air conditioned aviaries where falcons can rest while they are moulting, or changing their feathers. Traditionally a way of obtaining food, Falconry today has become more of a national sport and a rite of passage for many young Emirati men, who take their time to train their Falcons, developing a relationship and deep bond with the birds. Groups of friends regularly come together in the evenings to meet and train their birds where the practice becomes more about camaraderie and sharing knowledge than subsistence. The practice of Falconry was recognized by UNESCO in 2012 under the 'Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity' list. (Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)

Traveling to Dubai for the First Time (2024): 19 Tips & Tricks

Traveling to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) for the first time  and not sure where to start? Indeed, planning a trip to Dubai might be overwhelming, even more so if this is your first time in this rapidly growing and continuously changing city!

When is the best time to visit? How much time do you need in Dubai? What are the best areas to stay in and how to travel around? Do you need to pre-book tickets or can you just go with the flow? How to save time and money and still see the best that Dubai has to offer?

Dubai is a city of contrasts, a place where modern extravagance and traditional values go hand in hand. From its towering skyscrapers to its pristine beaches and bustling souks, visiting Dubai is like stepping into a different world…

To help you plan your first trip to this dynamic and unique city, in this guide we share some of our top travel tips for visiting Dubai .

We have visited Dubai several times and all the information and tips in this article are based on our personal experience. Some of these tricks we only learned after several trips…

This practical guide includes all the info I wish we had known before planning a trip to Dubai. These tips will not only help you plan your trip, but will also show you how to make the best of your visit, time, and budget. Find out!

Top 5 Experiences in Dubai:

  • Burj Khalifa (book in advance + opt for the level 148 ticket for priority access).
  • Desert Safari.
  • Museum of the Future (book well in advance!).
  • Luxury Yacht Tour .
  • Abu Dhabi Day Trip .

What to know when traveling to Dubai - practical information and helpful travel tips for visiting Dubai UAE

Here are our top travel tips for visiting Dubai:

1. Avoid Traveling in Summer

Dubai is known for its scorching temperatures, especially during the summer months. To give you an idea, average daytime temperatures during June, July, and August are well over 40°C (104°F). Even in April or November, Dubai temperatures usually still exceed 30°C (86°F).

The best time to visit Dubai is during the winter months – between December and February. The daytime temperatures at this time of the year are usually around 25°C (77°F). So it’s still warm enough to enjoy beaches, pools, and waterparks, but the temperatures are also pleasant for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Good to know: Winter is also the peak tourist season in Dubai. So expect accommodation prices to be higher and more crowds at the main attractions. However, with some advance planning and preparation, you can still have a very enjoyable visit, more than in the summer.

The shoulder season – the months of March-April or October-November – can be a good time to visit Dubai as well. If you don’t mind temperatures of around 30-35°C (86-95°F), you can take advantage of somewhat lower prices and fewer crowds than in the winter.

In addition, you may want to check when Ramadan is. During this month, most Muslims do not eat from sunrise to sunset, so many restaurants will be closed during the day. This may might impact your experience, depending on the places you visit.

TIP: No matter when you visit Dubai, be prepared for the heat by wearing lightweight, breathable clothing, using sun protection, and staying hydrated. Plan outdoor activities for the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the peak heat.

2. Book Attraction Tickets in Advance

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when planning a trip to Dubai is not to plan/book attraction tickets in advance.

Booking in advance means more time slots to choose from, better prices, and less time wasted queuing.  After all, you want to make the most of your trip to Dubai and not spend all your precious time standing in lines.

Good to know: Tickets to many popular attractions in Dubai are often sold out at least a few days in advance. Furthermore, many tickets are cheaper if booked online. In addition, some attraction tickets, e.g. Atlantis Aquaventure , cost less if you book at least a week before your visit.

For some places, not reserving in advance means that you won’t be able to visit at all.  For example, the Museum of the Future is so popular that all tickets are usually sold out at least 2-3 weeks upfront. If you want to be able to choose the time slot that fits you best, you need to book at least a month in advance.

If you want to visit observation decks at Burj Khalifa or Dubai Frame , you also need to book ahead. In most cases, a few days in advance is sufficient, but it really depends on the period when you travel and how flexible you are. Also, consider visiting these attractions early in the morning or late in the evening for smaller crowds and better photo opportunities.

PRO TIP: For Burj Khalifa, we recommend getting a ticket that includes Level 148 . Not only you get to visit another level which is not included with standard tickets, but you also get skip-the-line access through the security check and at the elevators, and it includes some snacks and drinks. It’s well worth it.

Overall, we always recommend booking tickets and tours at least a month before your trip. But keep in mind that for many popular destinations worldwide booking a month or even two upfront is not sufficient anymore.

Tickets don’t get cheaper and there’s less availability the longer you wait. Plus, if you use GetYourG u ide for all attraction tickets and tours like we do, you can take advantage of their very flexible cancelation policy.

Good to know: Booking tickets/tours via websites like GetYourGuide , Viator , or Tiqets also saves you money on exchange rates. The exchange rate they use is the official rate and transactions are in your currency. Whereas if you pay on the spot, it will usually cost you quite a lot more (not only because many tickets are more expensive at the counter, but also because of credit card fees, exchange rate deviations, etc.).

Plus, booking and paying ahead makes it easier to budget for your vacation and keep your credit card’s spending limit available for other expenses during your trip.

3. Foresee Enough Time & Plan Wisely

There is one thing that you may not realize as a first-time visitor to Dubai and that’s how huge the city is. It’s not a place that you can compare to cities like Rome or London , or even New York City where you can still walk between many attractions and see a lot in a short time…

Dubai is totally different! It’s big, not really walkable (except in some areas), and the attractions are spread out all over the enormous and ever-growing city.

Plus, road works and traffic jams turn every ride into an expedition. The same trip that takes 20 minutes at night or early in the morning can take you an hour or even longer during the day. And yes, public transport can be a good option, but it also has its limitations – more about it further below.

Good to know: When planning your sightseeing itinerary, you will see that most Dubai attractions work with timed entry slots. Be sure to foresee plenty of extra time everywhere though! Even with timed entry tickets, you will often be standing in line for an hour or even longer, not to mention the time that it takes to actually visit the place or get from one attraction to the other.

TIP: So while planning what to see and do, foresee enough extra time between the sights and don’t try to do too much in a single day. Also, group the attractions based on their location, and go for a mix of top attractions with some lesser-known ones. That way, you don’t have to rush from one queue to another and your trip will be much more relaxed.

This brings us to the next tip – see below.

AYA Universe - Dubai travel tips

4. Don’t Try to See Everything

There is so much to see and do in Dubai that you could easily stay here for a few months and still not experience everything the area has to offer. So resist FOMO and the urge of having to see ‘everything’. It’s simply impossible, especially if you are only traveling to Dubai for just a few days or a week.

TIP: Choose a few places, attractions, and experiences that interest you the most and focus on those rather than ticking off boxes just because some guidebook told you that one or the other place is ‘a must’.

If you absolutely want to go to the top of Burj Khalifa, well – just do it and tick it off your bucket list. After all, how often will you get a chance to visit the world’s tallest building… In that case, book tickets in advance and be prepared to queue, or save time and avoid the crowds with priority access .

On the other hand, maybe you are perfectly content just seeing the building from the outside and rather spend your time visiting other viewing platforms like Sky Views , the View at The Palm , or Dubai Frame …

Or maybe you don’t care about any of these at all and much rather spend a day at a water park , exploring the old town souks (markets), or enjoying the views from a luxury yacht …

Dubai has so much to offer to all types of travelers. So personalize your itinerary based on what you really want to do, taking into account the time that you have, your interests, and your budget. If you are visiting Dubai with the family, try to incorporate some fun activities for the kids in your itinerary as well, even if it means that you’ll have less time for sightseeing.

5. Consider Tours & Private Drivers

If you want to see a lot of Dubai in a short time or you don’t know where to even start deciding where to go, consider booking tours or private guides/drivers .

Sometimes, a private driver can also be cheaper than taking a taxi between all those places, and often, you can also find cars that can take up to 6 passengers (vs 4 in most taxis).

Just to be clear, I am talking about quickly seeing multiple places all over the city in a single day. If you want to spend more time exploring the sites, you better go on your own.

There are tons of different ‘city highlights’ tours that bring you to many of the main landmarks of Dubai in (half) a day. Keep in mind that in most cases, your ‘visit’ will be just a quick photo stop, so it’s not comparable to actually visiting the sights. But it’s a good way to get an introduction to Dubai and catch a glimpse of the top spots.

PRO TIP: If you do a city highlights tour, do it at the beginning of your trip! That way, you can later come back to some of the places that you like the most. An ideal way to explore Dubai is to take an introductory city tour first as you arrive and then thoroughly visiting some of the main landmarks and attractions on your own later.

Abu Dhabi day trip tip: One of the best guided tours we recently did in Dubai was this highly-rated tour. If you want to see the top sights of Abu Dhabi in a day, this tour has by far the best itinerary (I compared many tours before we chose this one and it didn’t disappoint).

6. Save Time & Money with Combination Tickets

Dubai is expensive, there is no arguing about it. But with some smart planning, you can save some money on some of the main attractions.

One of the best ways to do this is by opting for combination tickets and/or city cards that include several popular places.

Here are some of the most popular deals:

  • Burj Khalifa + Dubai Aquarium (+-$20 savings per person).
  • Atlantis Aquaventure + Lost Chambers Aquarium (+-$25-30 savings per person).
  • GoCity Explorer Pass (up to 50% savings, depending on the attractions you visit).

Good to know: Some tickets cost more during the most popular times. For example, Burj Khalifa around sunset. So if you want to save money, be sure to check prices for different time slots/days when making reservations.

Lost Chambers Aquarium in Dubai

7. Stay Longer

You might be wondering how much time you need to see the best of Dubai. Well, there is really no straightforward answer to this and so much depends on your interests.

That being said, I recommend planning at least a week for a first visit to Dubai. But if you have time and your budget allows it, stay longer. You won’t get bored!

With a week in Dubai, you will be able to visit most of the top landmarks, explore several different parts of the city, and also find some time to relax and unwind. If you want to spend more time at the beach or by the pool, visit a water park or a theme park with your kids, or make a day trip to Abu Dhabi, ideally, you plan at least 10-12 days for Dubai.

But don’t worry if your trip is shorter and you can’t extend it. You can have a perfectly enjoyable visit and see a lot even if you only have a day or two in Dubai. Via the link below, you can find plenty of ideas for planning a shorter visit.

8. Choose the Location of Your Hotel Wisely

Deciding where to stay in Dubai might not be as straightforward as you may think, especially if the main purpose of your visit is to explore the city.

There is not one perfect place to stay in Dubai – it’s simply much too big and too spread out for that.

However, some areas are better than others and some are really a disaster for commute. If you pick the wrong location, you might be stuck in traffic for hours every time you want to go anywhere and do some sightseeing. On the other hand, that same spot might be perfect for those who are mainly interested in swimming and dining, and are just looking for a relaxing vacation with maybe one or two excursions that include a pick-up and drop-off at the hotel…

TIP: I strongly recommend that you look at the map and the location of the places that you want to visit before deciding where to stay in Dubai. Also, consider how you will travel around.

For example, staying within walking distance of a metro station might save you a lot of time and money on commuting if you plan to do lots of sightseeing. Whereas staying in a nice walkable area with lots of shops and restaurants will be ideal if you like to go out at night.

Here are two of the very best areas to stay in Dubai:

  • Dubai Downtown (the area around Dubai Mall – Burj Khalifa) is very central and is perfect for those who want to do a lot of sightseeing, but also for shopping and dining. Sofitel Dubai Downtown is a great choice in this area, close to Dubai Mall and just near a metro station. Remember, however, that this is the heart of the city, so very busy and far from the sea.
  • Dubai Marina in the south of the city is another popular area to stay in Dubai. It’s a great choice for those who are looking for a more relaxing vacation, boat trips, water parks, dining, shopping, etc. The beach is not too far from here, however, it will take at least 45-60 minutes to reach the city center. Millennium Place is a very popular hotel not too far from the main Marina area and close to the metro. On a somewhat higher budget, JW Marriott Hotel Marina is a wonderful choice if you want to be in the heart of the Marina.

TIP: On our most recent visit to Dubai, we stayed at Rove La Mer Beach Hotel . It’s close to the downtown area, so quite convenient for sightseeing, but also with direct access to a private beach – the best of both worlds. We loved this hip modern hotel, also because it’s much smaller and more intimate – a kind of place where you don’t have to worry about losing your kids at breakfast. It also offers great price/quality for Dubai. The only downside is that the area around the hotel is still developing with lots of construction going on, but it will only get more attractive in the future.

Rove La Mer Beach Hotel in Dubai

9. Beware of Tourism Taxes

Hotel stays (including hotel apartments, guesthouses, holiday homes, etc.) in the United Arab Emirates are taxed with various fees, surcharges, and taxes. These amounts might vary depending on the hotel, but it’s not abnormal that these taxes add over 20-25% to your room rate.

For example, our recent hotel invoice in Dubai showed a 10% service charge, 7% municipality fees, 5 % VAT, and an additional 10 AED (+-$3) Tourism Dirham Fee per night.

Altogether, we paid about 24,4% on top of the official room rate. The good thing is that we knew in advance how much we had to pay. Otherwise, this could be a very unpleasant surprise…

So when looking for accommodation in Dubai and comparing prices, make sure that you are actually comparing the same thing!

Many hotel websites show prices without (some/any) taxes, so you may think that booking directly with them is cheaper. Often, it’s not the case at all!

TIP: We always use Booking.com for our accommodation bookings, also in Dubai. With them, you see the total price, including all fees and taxes, so you know exactly how much you will spend. (Depending on booking conditions, you may have to prepay for the stay in advance whereas the taxes are charged separately when you arrive at the hotel, but the total amount you see when making a reservation is correct).

10. Use Public Transport & Local Taxis

Dubai’s public transport system is efficient and inexpensive. Depending on where you are staying and traveling to, it might be very convenient to use the Dubai Metro, Tram, Monorail, or even local buses.

However, this depends on the exact trip you are planning to make and also on the size of your group. Sometimes, public transport is the best way to get around the city quickly and affordably. But there are also many situations when it’s a real hassle and doesn’t make your trip faster or much cheaper.

In those cases, you will be glad to know that taxis are rather affordable in Dubai . The most expensive taxi ride we recently took in Dubai was 25 kilometers, it took over 50 minutes, and it cost us 76 AED (+-$21).

However, be careful that you only use official taxis! Because e.g. Uber is often quite a lot more expensive. Not even to mention that they sometimes charge twice the price during peak times of increased demand. We learned this the hard way, after taking a few overpriced Uber rides…

Also, unlike in many other countries where we use Uber all the time, in Dubai, you never really know how much you will pay until the end of the ride. The price you see in the beginning is usually just an approximate indication.

TIP: Install Careem app on your smartphone and use it to request ‘Hala Taxi’. That’s the best way to get an official taxi in Dubai. If you request ‘Rides’, it works similar as Uber and is more expensive. We learned this from a local taxi driver after a few very unpleasant experiences with Uber and private drivers randomly offering their services at the main tourist spots, and it saved us a fortune.

To give you an idea, we were quoted 120 AED ($33) by Uber and 150 AED ($40) by random ‘kind strangers’ for a ride that in the end cost us 22 AED ($6) by official taxi. When it comes to busy times and popular tourist hotspots, getting a taxi ride in Dubai can feel like navigating the Wild West…

11. Start Your Days Early

One of the best ways to make the most out of your trip to Dubai is to start your days early.

There’s much less traffic in the morning, so you can get everywhere much quicker. But the main advantage is that there are hardly any other people, even at the most popular attractions. In addition – if you are visiting Dubai in the warmest months – getting up early is the best way to avoid the biggest heat.

Good to know: Be sure to check opening times of the places you want to visit. While some attractions don’t open until noon, many others are open from 9-10 AM. There are also places – like e.g. Burj Khalifa – that you can visit at 7 AM, and on some days even earlier if you like…

For example, we recently went to the Aquaventure Water Park at Atlantis around opening time. There were no lines at the entrance and we could also do many popular slides without any wait. A few hours later, people were queuing for 45-60 minutes at the same rides…

In addition, the taxi ride to get there in the morning took us just 22 minutes. That same ride to get back to our hotel in the evening was over 50 minutes, not counting more than 10 minutes for a taxi to arrive… So yes, it really pays to explore Dubai in the morning!

While pretty much all public places and tourist attractions in Dubai offer free Wi-Fi, we highly recommend getting a local SIM card for your visit to UAE. There are so many situations when it’s just much easier to stay connected. For example, if you need to book a taxi ride, or book some tickets on the go, etc.

Depending on your data plan, roaming can cost a fortune in Dubai. My provider sent me an sms saying that using data in UAE will cost me 15 euros per megabyte (ouch! and no, thank you!). So the first thing I did after landing in Dubai was disconnect roaming.

There are several ways to approach this:

  • Pocket Wi-Fi. One of the easiest ways to stay connected on the go is by renting a pocket WiFi at Dubai airport . This is a very convenient option if you don’t want to change anything on your phone. It’s also convenient if you are traveling with a family/friends since you can connect up to 10 devices to it.
  • Local SIM card. Alternatively, you can opt opt for a physical SIM card, which is also available at the airport . With this option, you will need to place this card into your phone. If you want to keep your ‘own’ phone number working as well, see if your phone has a dual SIM option – then you can use both. Otherwise, you may want to bring an old phone to use with this local card.
  • eSIM. There are many providers available (just search online), but what’s included and the prices vary a lot. Depending on which one you choose and also on your device, this can be a very easy and simple process, but it’s also not very straightforward if you have never done it before. Also, not all phones allow eSIM – so be sure to double-check if your smartphone has this capability.

13. Respect Local Culture

While Dubai is a very cosmopolitan city, it’s also a place with different cultural norms and traditions. Overall, UAE is very ‘Western’ and Dubai in particular is very laid back and relaxed. With over 200 nationalities living in Dubai, it’s a true melting pot of different cultures. Still, remember that you are a visitor here, and be respectful.

Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or public places. Also, avoid public displays of affection, as these can be considered disrespectful.

If you’re visiting during Ramadan, be mindful of local customs and traditions. Keep in mind that many traditional restaurants and cafes will be closed during the day but will come to life after sunset. If you are visiting during Ramadan and are planning sightseeing during the day or a day trip to e.g. Abu Dhabi, it’s advisable to pack your own lunch.

One of the most common questions we get is what to wear when traveling to Dubai. Well, you will see people wearing all kinds of clothing – from burkas that cover the entire body to revealing summer clothes that hardly cover much at all. However, while a lot is tolerated, it’s not always appreciated.

So when in doubt, remember that it’s always safer to cover your knees and shoulders. See-through clothing is also not the best idea, unless on a beach.

TIP: Wear loose light clothes – not as much for religious or cultural reasons, but also because of the heat. Long skirts/dresses or wide summer pants will be much more comfortable than tight clothes.

14. Use Credit Cards

The official currency in Dubai is the United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED) and all the prices are displayed in this currency. All regular businesses accept cash and electronic means of payment, such as credit cards or smartphone payments.

We haven’t encountered a single place in Dubai that wouldn’t accept a credit card. So if you want to make it easy and simple for yourself, you don’t even need to exchange money and can simply use cards everywhere.

Important! Inform your bank about your visit so that they don’t block your cards for ‘suspicious activity’. And even then… Despite precautions, one of my cards got blocked by a credit card company after a random payment at a restaurant in one of the main malls in Dubai. We had to call the bank to get them to unblock it again and they say that this happens when ‘the systems’ suspect anything suspicious, despite us having notified our bank in advance…

If you want to leave a tip to someone or purchase something small, you may want to have some local currency at hand. In that case, you can get some cash from local ATMs which you will find in malls all over the city. I strongly encourage you to only use ATMs attached to local bank offices as some others might charge additional fees and/or give the worst exchange rates.

PRO TIP: When using ATMs to withdraw money or paying by card, you always get an option between local currency (AED) and your own currency. Always choose local currency (AED) – that way, your bank will do the exchange and you will always get a better rate than the one offered by ATMs or pay terminals.

Good to know: We heard it on quite a few occasions that money is king in Dubai and it doesn’t matter in which currency you want to pay – they will accept it. Indeed, this is the case at the markets (souks) and some smaller private businesses. On a recent trip to Dubai, I could use Euros at the souk. The sellers also told us that they accept credit cards (just make sure to haggle – see below).

15. Shop Smart

Dubai is a shopper’s paradise, but prices can vary a lot depending on where you shop. The prestigious locations like the Dubai Mall are home to some of the most expensive brands in the world and the prices here are usually very high. You will be able to find much better deals at the Dubai Outlet Mall, for example.

Also, if you go to various local markets (souks), be sure to shop around for better deals. Also, don’t forget to haggle – and not a little! Many sellers take advantage of tourists asking ridiculously high prices. Often, 3-4 times higher than what you should pay, and likely even more… Don’t be shy, offer the price that seems correct to you, and be prepared to walk away.

On a recent trip, I got intrigued by a perfume someone put on me while walking through the Dubai Spice Souk (this is common practice – people will (try to) put all kinds of stuff on you – from scarfs to perfumes etc.). So I asked how much it was. The prices depend on the size and the design of the bottle, they said, and so we settled on a medium-sized simple bottle and they told me it was 280 AED (+- 70 euros).

No way I would pay 70 euros for a tiny bottle of perfume at a market! And so we started the negotiations. In the end, I paid 20 euros in cash which – to me – felt like a correct price. The seller was telling me that this was way too low and he was only willing to do it because it was our last day in Dubai and my kids were cute… 😉

After that, I saw similar perfumes at Dubai Airport souvenir store and indeed, most of them were about 20-25 euros for about the same size I got. So don’t be afraid to negotiate and if you don’t feel comfortable with the price or the quality, simply walk away.

16. Explore Beyond the Glitz

While Dubai is best known for its skyscrapers and extravagant landmarks, don’t miss out on its cultural gems as well.

One of the best places to catch a glimpse of authentic culture is Old Dubai. Visit the historic Al Fahidi neighborhood, explore the spice and gold souks, and take a traditional abra ride along Dubai Creek. These experiences are also quite touristy, but they are also totally different from the main attractions in Dubai.

TIP: There are many excellent guided tours that visit Old Dubai . They all take you to the same area, do the traditional boat ride on Dubai Creek, and visit the same local markets. Most tours also include local coffee and dades, and some also food tasting. While you can just visit the area on your own, these tours are really affordable and give you a somewhat deeper insight and insider tips.

On our recent visit, we chose this walking/food tour . It started with some traditional food tasting at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to the old town, a boat ride, and ended at the gold and spice souks. A nice way to spend a few hours and get to know a different side of the city.

17. Avoid Weekends

If you think Dubai is busy on a weekday, try to imagine it on a weekend or on public holidays.

So if you can adjust your plans, avoid visiting the most popular attractions on weekends (Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday).

If you are in Dubai for more than a few days, this is really not difficult to do. Visit the most popular places such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Global Village , Miracle Garden , or theme parks and water parks on weekdays.

On weekends, you can do more relaxing activities such as a sightseeing a yacht trip , a speedboat tour , spend time at the beach or by the pool, go parasailing or jetskiing , or take a desert tour – see below.

Dubai Mall and Aquarium

18. Experience the Desert

No trip to Dubai would be complete without experiencing its desert. Book a desert safari tour for an adrenaline-pumping ride over the dunes, followed by a traditional Bedouin-style dinner under the stars. It’s an unforgettable experience!

There are many desert tour options , but when you look closely, they are very similar in what they offer. Depending on the option you book, you have one main activity – usually, dune bashing in a jeep, quad, or camel ride. Afterward, you spend time in a desert camp where you can partake in all kinds of different experiences.

Some of these experiences include taking pictures with falcons and camels, sandboarding, various shows (traditional dance, belly dance, fire show), henna tattoos, etc. There is always lots of local food and it’s surprisingly good.

Our experience: We have done two desert tours in Dubai (on different trips) and they were both very similar and both excellent. The first time we went on this dune safari tour and on a recent trip, we opted for this highly-rated tour that includes a longer camel ride . In both cases, the second part of the tour was quite similar, the main difference was that the first tour included an exhilarating jeep ride through the dunes, and the second one – a 45-minute camel ride.

The whole family really enjoyed these tours and I couldn’t say which one is better. All I can tell you is that it’s a nice experience that will make your trip to Dubai even more memorable.

19. Don’t Forget Little Important Details

Here are some additional travel tips for Dubai:

  • Bring a reusable water bottle. Dubai is so warm and dry that you will want to carry a bottle of water on you at all times. If you want to minimize plastic waste, you may want to bring your own reusable water bottle. Tap water is, in general, safe to drink. In addition, you will also see free water taps at some public areas, where you can refill your bottles.
  • Pack a travel adapter. UAE uses  Type G  plugs, same as in the UK. However, we noticed that in most hotels you can also simply use European plugs and sometimes a simple USB cable. Still, we always pack a Type G adapter just to be safe.
  • Bring a power bank to charge your phone on the go. Also, carry extra batteries for your camera.
  • Know that you are not obliged to tip, but it’s also appreciated. Many people tip 10-15% at the restaurants or give a small tip to tour guides. If you like to tip, make sure you have some small bills of local currency.
  • Bring a small crossbody bag for sightseeing. At some landmarks, you will be asked to leave bigger bags/backpacks in a locker. I like Hedgren crossbody bags for travel – they are light, sturdy, and very durable. The one I have is big enough to hold my camera, a power bank, documents, and even two water bottles, and I was never asked to use a locker. But pack the smallest backpack and you’ll often have to leave it behind…
  • Don’t forget sun protection. A sun hat, sunscreen lotion, and sunglasses are a must when visiting Dubai!

Good to know before you go to Dubai: money & time-saving tip s

Dubai is a real hot spot for tourists, especially during the winter months. There are virtually countless activities on offer to satisfy almost any type of interest imaginable. Yet, a lot of the must-sees in Dubai require reservation or would be more enjoyable with skip-the-line tickets. In this post, I put a note to each of such places so you know what to book ahead.

Save some cash with Dubai Explorer Pass

If you are the kind of traveler who wants to try as many activities as possible, the Dubai Explorer Pass will come in handy. You can get 3, 4, 5, or 7 activities included in your pass (price will differ accordingly), and it will save you around 35% compared to what you would spend if you bought the tickets separately.

The pass is valid for 60 days from the day of activation giving you ample time during your 1-week in Dubai to utilize it.

The great thing about Dubai Explorer Pass is that many of the most popular activities in Dubai are also included (such as the Burj Khalifa observation deck). Here are a few honorable mentions:

  • Burj Khalifa observation deck at 124 th and 125 th floors  –  the time slot and date must be booked in advance
  • Aquaventure Waterpark  at the Atlantis Hotel
  • Ain Dubai – Observation Wheel (re-opening May 2023)
  • Hop-On Hop-Off Big Bus Dubai Tour : 1-Day Ticket
  • Dhow Dinner Cruise in the Marina or in Dubai Creek
  • Desert Excursion  with Barbecue Dinner – the date must be booked in advance
  • Adventure parks: Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai, IMG Worlds

Check the full list of activities and book your Dubai Explorer Pass HERE .

Save time with skip-the-line pass

If you prefer to book activities for your one week in Dubai individually, I recommend considering skip-the-line passes for some of the more popular ones, especially if you can only attend during the peak times which are afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Skip-the-line tickets are available for most of the popular attractions in Dubai. The ones that I suggest considering because of high demand and, naturally, long queues are listed below:

  • Burj Khalifa 124, 25, and 148 floors skip the line-> BOOK HERE
  • Dubai Frame -> BOOK HERE
  • The View at The Palm-> BOOK HERE

Top activities for 7 days in Dubai trip

  • Burj Khalifa observatory- level 124 and 125 entry tickets

  • Museum of the Future (reservation in advance strongly recommended)
  • Aya Universe
  • The View at the Palm Observatory

Where to stay in Dubai: the best areas in Dubai

Dubai is a spread-out “long” city, and distances are significant between the different areas of Dubai. For example, Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai, two of the most popular tourist destinations, are 25 minutes drive apart, using a highway.

Thus, you must consider your base in Dubai carefully, depending on how you are planning to commute around (taxi, car, or metro).

You can find accommodations in all the main areas: Dubai Marina, Dubai Downtown, Jumeirah, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, Al Barsha, and also old Dubai (Deira). The prices of hotels in Dubai vary significantly depending on the area and type of hotel.

If your budget is unlimited, you have countless of the most gorgeous luxury hotels to choose from in Dubai’s prime locations such as Downtown, Dubai Marina, and The Palm Jumeirah. However, if you are looking for more affordable accommodation options then look up JLT or Al Barsha area.

1-week Dubai itinerary: where to stay in Dubai

The cheapest hotels are in old Dubai (Deira). However, you must consider the travel time and cost. For example, the distance from Deira to Dubai Marina is around 30 kilometers. A journey in a metro will take away at least an hour, or possibly even more of your time, meanwhile, a taxi costs around 80 AED (22 EUR/25 USD) and still takes around 35-40 minutes or longer as there is a lot of traffic in Deira.

For your 7 days in Dubai, I recommend the following accommodation for different budgets (you will find more accommodation suggestions at the end of this post):

Address Sky View Hotel $$$- this 5-star hotel offers one of the most amazing rooftop infinity pools overlooking Dubai Downtown and Burj Khalifa at the center. The location is also excellent with easy metro access.

  • Leva Hotel and Suites $$ – located opposite Downtown Dubai , just a 5-minute walk from the metro station, this great value-for-money hotel offers minimalistic modern spacious rooms.
  • Millennium Place Dubai Marina $$ -a 4-star hotel in Dubai Marina is great value for money.  It offers rooms with beautiful city views, an outdoor pool that overlooks skyscrapers over the JLT area, a short walking distance to DMCC metro station, and 1 km to JBR Walk and the beach.
  • Mercure Dubai Barsha Heights Hotel Suits $$ – 4-star hotel apartments at a reasonable rate in Barsha Heights , within walking distance to Dubai Internet City metro station. The location is conveniently positioned to quickly reach Dubai Marina, Emirates Mall, Madinat Jumeirah, and Palm Jumeirah.
  • Maya luxury beach $-mixed, female and male dorms in a prime location of JBR , within walking distance from the JBR beach.

How to get around Dubai for 7 days?

Getting around dubai by car.

As a long-term resident of the UAE, I suggest that driving in Dubai during your 7-day visit is by far the most convenient, fastest, and cost-effective option. Not all activities and sights on this itinerary can be reached by public transport. Meanwhile, expenses on taxis can accumulate very quickly if you solely rely on them for moving around Dubai.

If you are traveling as a couple or a family, having your own car is advantageous in many ways:

  • Renting a car in Dubai is inexpensive
  • Petrol is cheap
  • Distances in Dubai are relatively long, thus using a taxi ends up being an expensive option to commute around Dubai .
  • Driving your own vehicle will save you lots of time compared to using slow public transport (metro or buses).
  • Finally, you will also have the freedom to go on day trips outside Dubai independently.

The only negative side of driving in Dubai is that traffic is hectic during peak hours (4-8 PM) in certain areas. Yet, it is not as near as bad as compared to the traffic in Riyad (Saudi Arabia), or Istanbul (Turkey).

Thus, renting a car in Dubai for a week is overall a good idea. The only time you do not need a car is if you have planned to spend your entire vacation at the beach resort in Dubai.

My go-to websites for finding the best car rental rates are:

  • Discovercars – always provides the lowest rates across international companies.
  • Localrent – has great deals with local agents and often very favorable rental conditions (small or no deposits).

Getting around Dubai by metro

The metro line connects a few major areas in Dubai: Expo City-Dubai Marina-Dubai Downtown and DIFC- Old Dubai (Deira, Bur Dubai)- Dubai International Airport (DXB). It is an inexpensive way to travel between the above-mentioned areas in Dubai, yet trains are quite slow and often crowded (unless you purchase a Gold ticket for a VIP cabin).

That being said, if you rent your accommodation in Dubai close to the metro station, you can successfully utilize the Dubai metro for visiting several areas and attractions mentioned in this one-week Dubai itinerary.

  • You can purchase single tickets at the metro station. If you are planning to use the metro multiple times, then get an NOL card and top it up as much as needed or buy a 7-day pass. More info here .
  • NOL cards can be also used on buses, marine transport, and tram.
  • One-way ride starts at 4 AED (~1 EUR/1.1 USD), and the total cost depends on how many zones you are crossing.

Did you know? Dubai metro is controlled remotely and runs without a driver. Dubai metro can be an attraction in its own right and worth riding for fun once.

Getting around Dubai by bus

There is an extensive bus network serving a lot of areas in Dubai but I find it extremely slow and the worst way to get around Dubai if time matters to you. Thus, unless you are on a tight budget, I do not recommend bothering with buses.

  • You can find more information about bus routes on RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) website.

Getting around Dubai by tram

A tram line runs around Dubai Marina and JBR areas and also connects Dubai Metro and Palm Jumeirah monorail in Al Sufouh area.

Getting around Dubai by Taxi

Beige color metered taxis are operating all around Dubai and can be stopped by waving your hand. You can also download Careem App (must have a local number to register) which is the local equivalent of Uber.

  • The fare per 1 kilometer is around 1.8 AED, with a base rate of 12 AED.
  • For example a journey from Dubai Marina to Burj Khalifa in Dubai Downtown costs around 50 AED.

If you do not plan to rent a car, you will have to use taxi services for quite a few activities mentioned in this post.

Note: if you read somewhere that taxis in Dubai are cheap- I disagree. The fare of less than 2 AED per kilometer might appear low at first glance. But bear in mind that distances in Dubai are long (although do not feel like it when commuting via highways) and the amount payable for a journey increases quickly. If you use a taxi a few times a day, you can easily spend over 200 AED (around 50 EUR).

Dubai Itinerary: 7 days in UAE day by day

Day 1 of 7 days in dubai itinerary: the dubai downtown.

Today you will explore Downtown Dubai and DIFC-the modern and glamorous- financial-commercial area where Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall fountain show, and Museum of the Future are located.

The points of interest and the best things to do in Dubai Downtown:

  • Burj Khalifa Observation Deck
  • Sky Views Observation Deck
  • Museum of the Future
  • Lunch in Dubai Downtown
  • Burj Khalifa promenade and Souk Al Bahar
  • Dubai Fountain Show in front of Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa

1) Ascend to Burj Khalifa Observation Deck

If this is your first time in Dubai, visiting Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, up and close is a brilliant way to start your itinerary. You can buy tickets to access 124, the 125th viewing platform overlooking Dubai Downtown with views stretching as far as the Arabian Gulf. For some extra money, you can even go up to the 148th floor.

Burj Khalifa observation deck is one of the TOP activities in Dubai, booking your slot in advance is recommended.

Tip: visit around sunrise time-you will get cheaper tickets, the lighting will be just as beautiful as in the evening, and fewer people.

Fun fact: the tallest building in the world Burj Khalifa, as expected, has the fastest elevators lifting passengers at 10m/s speed.

Did you know? Burj Khalifa won’t hold the title of the tallest building in the world for much longer. Saudi Arabia has ambitions to build a tower twice as tall as Burj Khalifa! Indeed, Saudis are setting a new bar that won’t be easy to beat.

2) Soak up more of Dubai Downtown views from Sky View Observation Deck

Scaling the heights of Burj Khalifa is what most Dubai visitors choose to do. However, if you want to see surreal Dubai’s skyline with the Burj Khalifa in it, Sky Views Observation might spark your interest.

A 360 degrees glass viewing platform 219 meters above Downtown Dubai offers unobstructed views including the view of Burj Khalifa. Note that this activity is not suitable for those suffering from vertigo. The experience includes not only taking a glass elevator, walking a 46-meter glass corridor on the 53rd floor but also one floor-to-floor slide outside the tower on a transparent surface. Sky Views Observation deck is situated nearby Burj Khalifa, and thus can be visited on the same day.

sky views observation deck is one of the best things to do in dubai

3) Walk Burj Khalifa promenade and visit Souk Al Bahar

Burj Park is a beautiful area at the foot of Burj Khalifa and next to Dubai Fountain Lake (also referred to as Burj Khalifa Lake). It is a pleasant promenade to walk around, chill on the grass, and a good spot to snap some photos of Burj Khalifa. Do not miss the gigantic metal dandelion sculptures located on the promenade.

On the opposite side of Burj Park, you will find Souq Al Bahar which is accessible through a short bridge next to Dubai Mall. Souq Al Bahar is a venue filled with many restaurants and a modern marketplace made in a design of traditional Arabic Souq.

It sells various tourist-oriented Middle Eastern-style souvenirs. Although for better prices and the possibility to haggle, I recommend waiting until you visit Old Dubai and its authentic market.

Tip: Walk around Souk al Bahar along the lakeside to catch some more nice viewpoints of Burj Khalifa.

Before heading to your next activity, I recommend having lunch either in Souk Al Bahar or Dubai Mall. Places to eat are countless and range from fast food to the fanciest restaurants. The selection of various cuisines is also plentiful.

4) Visit the impressive futuristic Museum of the Future

Named the most beautiful building on Earth, the Museum of the Future is an architectural and engineering marvel. Located in DIFC (Dubai International Financial Center) next to Emirates Towers, the facade of a circular-shaped building is endorsed with beautiful calligraphy quoting His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (ruler of Dubai).

The Museum itself boasts a future-forward exhibition with an immersive and interactive experience. It is undeniably one of the world-class museums you simply cannot miss when visiting Dubai for one week.

Make sure to book your ticket as early as possible. Museum of the Future is in high demand and tickets get booked out weeks ahead.

Museum of the Future is one of the best things to do in Dubai in one week

6) Enjoy Dubai Fountain Show at Burj Khalifa Lake

An enchanting water, music, and light spectacle-the tallest in the world performing fountain take place next to Dubai Mall daily in above mentioned Dubai Fountain Lake. It is a free attraction in Dubai unless you choose to watch it from one of the Dubai Mall terrace restaurants, from Abra boat, or from a boardwalk.

  • Dubai fountain boardwalk is 272 meters floating platform that allows you to reach the fountain as close as 9 meters. The cost for this attraction is 25 AED per person.
  • Abra boat is an old traditional wooden boat. You can experience the Dubai fountain show from up close while cruising in abra . Reservation in advance is mandatory -> BOOK HERE .
  • As mentioned above, a great way to end your first day in Dubai is to have dinner while watching a fountain show. Dubai Mall has several restaurants that offer sitting places on the terrace, and so does Souk Al Bahar. It is worth making a reservation in advance. For the best views check out Tulum restaurant located on the 4 th floor, Fashion Avenue in Dubai Mall. The restaurant serves Mexican cuisine and also adds its own show to spice up the experience.

Dubai in 7 days: Dubai fountain show is one of the classic things to see in Dubai

Dubai Fountain show times: daily at 1 PM and 1:30 PM (1:30 PM and 2 PM on Fridays), and from 6 PM to 11 PM every 30 minutes.

A word about Dubai Mall

As you may have noticed, although I mentioned Dubai Mall a few times, I have not suggested it as a top attraction. Unless your aim is shopping, I do not recommend focusing on visiting it. I am personally not a fan of spending time in malls. I find the lack of natural light and an overwhelming amount of people and smells extremely tiring, thus I never considered Dubai Mall as a must-visit place in Dubai.

Although I must give credit to Dubai Mall, and other malls in general for providing an array of various indoor attractions which keep people entertained during the unbearably hot UAE summers.

How to get to Dubai Downtown

  • By metro:  step out in Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa Metro Station.

DAY 2 of one week in Dubai itinerary: Dubai Marina and around

Today you will hit the beach and also explore the iconic areas of Dubai- Dubai Marina, JBR, and Bluewaters Island from the ground and from the water perspective on a boat tour.

The points of interest and the best things to do in Dubai Marina, JBR and Bluewaters Island :

  • Beach (private or public beach)
  • Dubai Marina Promenade
  • JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) walk and the beach area
  • Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai
  • Sunset yacht tour or speedboat tour with Dubai Marina landmarks

1) Enjoy the beach in Dubai

Year-round sunshine is one of the major appeals to visiting Dubai. Situated on the Arabian Gulf, Dubai is abundant with beaches. There are plenty of options where to soak up the sun: from stylish beach clubs and hotel resorts to laid-back free public beaches.

If you are a beachgoer, depending on the budget, I recommend looking into accommodation that will allow you to reach the beach in a matter of minutes. The options for being steps away from the sea are:

  • high end-hotels and seaside resorts in Al Sufouh, Marina, JBR, or Jumeirah area;
  • mid-range accommodation -JBR or Dubai Marina which are a walking distance from the public JBR beach (5 to 15 minutes) .

If you are staying in one of the beach resorts, then you are all set for your half day on the beach. Otherwise, you might check one of the stylish beach clubs (paid entrance) which are in close proximity to your next destination (JBR and Dubai Marina). Some good options are:

  • Drift beach club (Dubai Marina);
  • Cove beach (on Bluewaters Island);
  • Bla Bla (JBR The Beach);
  • Summer Salt (Jumeirah Al Naseem hotel, has great views of Burj Al Arab).

7 days Dubai itinerary: Private beach at Jumeirah Al Naseem hotel, with Burj Al Arab view

Alternatively, head to one of the public beaches which offer the same sea and sand for free. Public beaches in Dubai (all of them have restrooms, food stalls and coffee shops, lifeguards, and even sunbeds with parasols for rent):

  • Kite beach -my favorite choice to chill out by the sea; you can walk along a 7 km long promenade and find both quiet spots and very busy spots to lay your towel at, all depends on what vibe you want);
  • JBR public beach -it is the most famous public beach frequented by tourists.
  • La Mer beach is located in Jumeirah 1, which is a bit far from Dubai Marina. This modern beach area is known for cool street art, palm tree-lined walkways, and many laid-back restaurants and coffee shops, as well as a waterpark.

How to get there : JBR beach can be reached by taking Dubai Metro and then walking for around 15 minutes, or taking a tram to reach closer. The other public beaches and beach clubs can be reached by taxi or driving.

2) Stroll along Dubai Marina promenade

The glittering Dubai Marina is a must place to visit in Dubai. Dubai Marina is an area where many western ex-pats choose to live and also a convenient place to stay as a visitor. The close proximity to the sea, plenty of restaurants, Marina Mall, and easy access to the metro makes Dubai Marina a desirable place to be.

Walk the length of 7 kilometers of Dubai Marina promenade that hugs an artificial canal lined with luxury yachts and a waterfront dotted by head-spinning skyscrapers.

7 days in Dubai: Dubai Marina promenade is a must-visit on one week Dubai itinerary

3) Continue to JBR The Walk and the beach

Dubai Marina canal is connected to the JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) via a few bridges. JBR is a waterfront community that is part of Dubai Marina. JBR is distinctive for its tall sand-colored buildings and is home to a popular promenade where you can see Lamborghinis and Ferraris showing off.

dubai in 7 days- jbr murals

The always buzzing beachfront boulevard is crowded with many restaurants and cafes, playgrounds, small shops, and people. The JBR beach is the most touristic beach in Dubai.

camels on jbr beach- dubai 7 day itinerary

Although not my favorite choice for a quiet time at the beach, in terms of things to do aside from tanning, JBR beach has some thrilling water activities to engage in: banana boat ride, jet-skiing, parasailing, inflatable obstacle course over the water (it is super fun), to name a few.

4) Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai

Continuing southwest along JBR beach, cross the pedestrian bridge to Bluewaters Island. You will get fantastic views over the JBR area from this bridge.

The mega modern manmade Bluewaters Island not only has a wide range of restaurants, upscale hotels, and fancy residences but is also home to Madame Tussauds Dubai wax museum and Ain Dubai observation wheel . The latter is one of the best attractions in Dubai to add to your itinerary.

Bluewatersisland and Ain Dubai at sunset- dubai 7 days itinerary

Did you know? Just like many things in the UAE, Ain Dubai (or Dubai Eye) is the largest and tallest observation wheel in the World! The Dubai Eye is temporarily closed but is due to re-open in May of 2023.

5) Yacht tour- one of the best things to do in Dubai

A yacht tour around Dubai Marina, Burj Al Arab, and Palm Jumeirah is one of the best things to add to your one-week Dubai itinerary. Seeing the skyline of Dubai from the water is a completely different experience than just walking under the sparkling towers. You will be able to truly appreciate the opulence of Dubai’s coastline.

The great news is that you have ample options either for a private yacht tour, a super fun speedboat tour covering main Dubai landmarks or joining a boat trip in a group, it all depends on your budget and preferences. The group tours are in fact very affordable.

Dubai itinerary: Dubai Marina skyline at sunset, and yacht photo shoots in Dubai are always memorable

Tip: the best time to go for a yacht tour is before sunset and sail into dusk. Dubai Marina skyline looks incredible washed in the golden rays of the setting sun. Moreover, when transitioning into the night the lights of the city come up making it a sight to behold.

How to get to Dubai Marina and JBR

  • By metro: go to the Damac Properties Station and cross the overpass to Dubai Marina. From here, the Marina Promenade is a five-minute walk.
  • To get to JBR , you can walk from the Dubai Marina promenade over one of the bridges crossing the canal. It takes only around 10 minutes.
  • By car: parking is available in Dubai Marina Mall (3 hours free of charge), also there is regular street parking metered for 4 AED per hour. JBR and Bluewaters Island, on the other hand, have limited street parking and the only option is expensive underground parking 20 AED (5 EUR) per hour unless you dine in one of the restaurants and spend over 100 AED then parking is free for 3 hours with validated ticket.

Where to stay in Dubai Marina

Millennium Place Dubai Marina $$ -a 4-star hotel in Dubai Marina is a great value for money.  It offers rooms with beautiful city views, an outdoor pool that overlooks skyscrapers over the JLT area, and a short walking distance to DMCC metro station, and 1 km to JBR.

DAY 3 on 7-day Dubai itinerary: Old Dubai, and around

On your day 3 in Dubai, you will be dwelling in the past of the city by visiting an old part of Dubai -a complete contrast to the glitz and glam of modern Dubai. From the Bedouin roots to the busy port town which developed around the Dubai Creek area, old Dubai is comprised of al Fahidi (Al Bastakiya) district and the Bur Dubai neighborhood on one side of the Dubai Creek and the Deira area on the other side.

The points of interest and the best things to do in Old Dubai :

  • Al Bastakiya district;
  • Al Seef district;
  • Al Fahidi Fort;
  • Abra boat ride from Bur Dubai to Deira souks;
  • Lunch at an Ethiopian restaurant;
  • Aya Universe;
  • Dubai Frame;
  • Dubai Garden Glow.

1) Al Fahidi (Al Bastakiya)

Start your morning in Al Fahidi (the oldest part is called Al Bastakiya) district. Dating back to the Pearl Trade era in the mid-19th century, Al Fahidi Historical District will bring you to the days before the 7 Emirates were founded.

Preserved to its original look, the Al Bastakiya district is characterized by ancient Arabic architecture. It is a small maze of winding alleyways between ochre-colored mud houses and typical wind towers aiding as an ancient air conditioning system.

Wandering around you will also find a few art galleries, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding which you can visit to learn more about Emirati culture, the Coffee Museum, and you can even stay a night in an XVA Boutique Hotel designed in a traditional Arabic way located at the very heart of Bastakiya.

Tip: Before starting your explorations stop for a typical Emirati breakfast at Arabian Tea House . Although catered to tourists yet a very atmospheric and beautifully decorated restaurant located at the southeast edge of Al Bastakiya and is worth the experience – choose to sit in the courtyard or on the outside terrace.

Al Fahidi (Al Bastakiya) district in Dubai 7 days itinerary: the wind towers

2) Al Seef District

Al Seef is a waterfront district newly built as an extension to Al Bastakiya. Al Seef is designed in a traditional Arabic style with many alleyways and mud houses with textured walls that were made to look as if they were ages old.

Al Seef hosts a traditional souq, waterfront restaurants and coffee shops, a boutique hotel, and a Museum of Illusions which is a fun thing to do with kids in Dubai. Al Seef is a very photogenic and atmospheric place to wander around and snap some instagrammable pictures of Dubai .

3) Al Fahidi Fort

Make your way west past Al Bastakiya and swing by Al Fahidi Fort- the oldest building in Dubai dating back to 1787. It is indeed a bit of a random sigh- an ancient fort squeezed between the 20th-century apartment blocks. Al Fahidi Fort hosts a Dubai Museum which costs only 3 AED to visit and might be worth it if you are keen to learn about the Persian Gulf and the heritage of Dubai.

4) Take an abra boat from the textile market in Bur Dubai- a must-do in Dubai

One of the most fun attractions in old Dubai is sailing across the creek the old way. A traditional wooden boat called abra (which means “to cross” in Arabic) has been used for centuries as a fast means of commute between two shores of Dubai Creek.

Crossing Dubai Creek in wooden abra boat is one of the most authentic things to do in Dubai

Abra can carry up to 20 passengers. The old boats are still used but have been motorized.

The journey across Dubai Creek from the Textile souk in Bur Dubai to the Gold and Spice souk in Deira takes 5 minutes and costs only 1 AED paid in cash to the ferry driver. That being said, this abra ride is by far the cheapest thing to do in Dubai .

Dubai in 7 days: abras parked Dubai Old Souq Marine Transport Station

If you want to sail alone or in a group of friends, you can hire an abra boat for 60 AED and have a nice journey along the creek, a duration is around half an hour.

Before reaching the abra marine station, you will first pass through the Textile Souq on the Bur Dubai side. Do not be surprised if you are called “Shakira Maria” as a lady- this is just one of the ways merchants entertain the tourists by trying to get them to purchase Kashmir scarfs. If any of the sellers succeeded in getting your attention, make sure to haggle. Haggling is very much part of the game in this region and you can bargain for at least half of the initial price of the item.

Textile market in old Dubai

5) Gold and Spice Souq- a must-visit in Dubai

Gold and Spice Souks are traditional markets in Dubai that are fun to explore and actually to do some shopping. In Dubai’s spice souk, you can get all the exotic spices you can imagine (Shafran, cardamon, etc), the highest quality dates, aromatic teas, Arabic perfume, lanterns, carpets, and various local souvenirs.

In Gold Souq, you can get gold and silver jewelry for some of the lowest prices in the world . If gold purchases are not on your agenda, still pop in to see jewelry of horrendous size.

7 day Dubai itinerary: Gold Souq

Fun fact: As you may already know, Dubai must have everything tallest, biggest, and largest. Thus, it is not a surprise that World’s largest bizarre 64kg almost half human-size gold ring is located in Dubai’s Gold Souq . The ring is priced at 3 million USD, in case you are wandering.

  • Lunch in Karama

After exploring the Gold Souq, take the abra boat back to Bur Dubai side. As lunchtime approaches, I have a couple of suggestions:

  • Go back to Al Seef and find a nice place to dine at one of the waterfront restaurants;
  • try Ethiopian cuisine in Zagol restaurant in Karama district located less than 10 minutes by car or taxi from Al Fahidi district. Zagol is a small traditional Ethiopian restaurant. It is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Dubai. Prices are low and the food is homemade, Ethiopian coffee is excellent too. If you never tried Ethiopian cuisine before, the base is injera bread served with various toppings (meat, vegetables, lentils). In general, you can find countless cheap low-key places to eat in the Karama area, mostly Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi) cuisine.

6) Aya Universe

A rather unusual attraction in Dubai on this list is the Aya Universe . It is an immersive mind-bending experience that opened in December 2022. The exhibition consists of around dozen different rooms (chambers) that will transport you to various illusionary spaces created using led lights and other high-end light technology. The installations are beautiful, thus Aya Universe instantly topped my Most Instagrammable Places in Dubai list.

Aya Universe is located in Wafi City ( Wafi Mall). It will take you around 10-20min with all the traffic and weird turns from Karama or Bur Dubai.

  • Opening times: Fri-Sat 10 AM- 12 AM, Sun-Thu 10 AM-10 PM.
  • Ticket price: 100 AED -> BOOK HERE

7 days in Dubai: otherworldly Aya Universe

7) Dubai Frame

Unsurprisingly, the largest monumental frame in the World that is also an observatory and a museum, Dubai frame is one of the top attractions in Dubai. Metaphorically and quite literally, the building is framing two different sides of Dubai. Depending on where you are looking, you either see the old part of Dubai as a canvas or the modern side of the city.

The state of art elevator will take you 150 meters up where you can observe lofty views of the city. Note that the upper frame holds a glass bridge connecting two towers. Walking the transparent floor is exciting for many but might be scary for someone suffering from vertigo.

Good to know : since Dubai frame is a very popular activity, there are massive queues on weekends and especially in the late afternoons. Therefore, try visiting on weekdays or consider purchasing skip-the-line tickets that will save you an hour or so of queuing.

  • Opening times: daily 9 AM- 9 PM.
  • Ticket price: 50 AED-> BOOK HERE.

8) Dubai Garden Glow

As the sun goes down, a wonderland of led lit creatures comes alive. Located in Zabeel park, next door to Dubai Frame, Dubai Garden Glow is the largest of its kind glowing park filled with gigantic size sculptures made of recycled fabric illuminated with over a million energy-saving bulbs. You will find led-based artwork in the shapes of animals, flowers, gigantic jellyfish, mushrooms, castles, heart-shaped archways, and an ice room with polar beers.

7 days in Dubai itinerary: Dubai Garden Glow is one of the quirkiest places to visit in Dubai

Moreover, the space also hosts a dinosaur park where the Jurassic park beasts are made in the size of what they used to be during their existence. Moreover, to add some creepiness to the atmosphere, the dinosaurs make ferocious sound effects and move their heads.

On your 7 days Dubai itinerary, Dubai Garden Glow is a perfect attraction for both families with kids and curious adults who appreciate unusual things to do in the city.

Glow Garden Park is open during the autumn-winter season when the temperatures are suitable to be outdoors.

  • Timings: Sun-Fri 5 PM- 11 PM, Sat 5 PM- 12 AM.
  • Entry fee: 70 AED-> BOOK HERE

How to get to Old Dubai

  • By metro: go to Sharaf DG metro station and take exit 4, it is around a 7 minutes walk to Al Fahidi (Ak Bastakiya).
  • By car: you can find easy free parking in Al Seef underground parking lot. Regular street parking is also available but might be tricky around Al Fahidi area.
  • By taxi: to reach other attractions- Aya Universe, Dubai Frame, and Garden Glow you will need a taxi (unless you are driving).

Where to stay in Old Dubai

XVA Art Hotel $$- located in the heart of Al Bastakiya, this boutique hotel offers a unique stay in Dubai. Each room is different and decorated by regional artists and designers. The central courtyard hosts an award-winning vegetarian café. -> BOOK HERE .

DAY 4 of Dubai 7 days itinerary: The Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab

Points of interest and things to do in dubai palm jumeirah and madinat jumeirah:.

  • The View at the Palm
  • The Pointe with Atlantis view
  • The Palm Corniche
  • Burj Al Arab
  • Madinat Jumeirah

The Palm Jumeirah

Palm Jumeirah is a famous manmade island in a shape of a palm tree. The branches of the Palm are lined with private villas, while the trunk is formed of upscale residences and many high-end hotels, waterfront restaurants, and sky-high Nakheel Mall hosting an observation deck and an infinity pool at its rooftop. And above all Palm Jumeirah is home to the iconic Atlantis hotel which is a must-see during your 7 days in Dubai.

Best things to do in Dubai in 7 days: The Palm Jumeirah Island

1) Marvel at the views over the Palm Jumeirah at The View at the Palm

Built 240 meters above sea level,  The View at the Palm observation deck boasts 360-degree views over the Gulf of Arabia, Palm Jumeirah, and many iconic landmarks.  You can visit the 52nd floor and have so a called general self-guided experience or choose a guided tour and have next-level experience. The latter includes access to an unobstructed viewing deck and a VIP lounge.

My recommendation is to visit early morning for beautiful sunrise lighting and cheaper tickets. Otherwise, sunsets are gorgeous but definitely the most popular for a visit.

Tip: before going, check the exact sunrise and sunset timing and book an hour before to catch the golden hour.

  • Opening times: 5:30 AM for a selected day for sunrise slots, usual hours 9 AM- 10 PM.
  • Ticket price: starts from 70 AED for morning slots and up to 275 AED for the prime times and skip the line. -> BOOK HERE

2) Atlantis hotel view at the Pointe

Atlantis hotel is an iconic landmark, that proudly sits at the apex of the Palm. Atlantis is definitely one of the top places to visit in Dubai for first-timers. Either you choose just to admire the architecture of the luxury resort from afar, or step inside to check out the interiors, dine in one of the fanciest restaurants in Dubai, have fun in Aquaventure waterpark, or even decide to spend a night or two, Atlantis is not to be missed.

If you want to get a good picture of the Atlantis hotel, the best-unobstructed views are revealed from the Pointe. A trendy waterfront venue at the far end of the trunk of the Palm dotted with restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques, The Pointe is a nice place to have breakfast before you continue another exciting day in Dubai.

Tip: the Pointe also has its own fountain show happening in the lagoon in front of Atlantis. It is a smaller fountain show than the one by Dubai Mall, yet it is also less crowded and can be enjoyed while eating dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants. The show starts daily at 6 PM and finishes at 11 PM or midnight on weekends.

7 days in Dubai itinerary: Atlantis the Palm

Did you know: a modern version of the Atlantis hotel has been built on the east side of the Palm? The new Atlantis The Royal hotel complements the old iconic landmark by retaining a similar shape but has a completely different futuristic architecture. It is a new kid on the block of cool landmarks in Dubai.

3) The Palm Corniche

Less known to the visitors, the west side corniche is my favorite place on Palm Jumeirah island. It offers a relaxed walk along the promenade winding along the sea. Moreover, at the very far west end of the Palm, you get fantastic views over Dubai Marina and JBR .

One week in Dubai, UAE- the Palm Jumeirah Corniche

Tip: Palm Jumeirah Corniche is a perfect place to watch the sun go down. Parking is also easy if you come by car.

7 days in Dubai: Dubai Marina view from Palm Jumeirah Corniche

5) Burj Al Arab- a must-see landmark in Dubai

Just as iconic as Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab is Dubai’s postcard child it is arguably the most recognizable landmark in the UAE. Situated on its own manmade island accessible via a short bridge, Burj Al Arab is a 252 meters tall 7-star ultra-luxury hotel shaped as a sail.

Good to know: you can only visit the interiors of Burj Al Arab if you are a guest, or if you have a reservation to dine at one of its outlets.

Dubai 7 days itinerary: Burj Al Arab view from the Palm Jumeirah

Nonetheless, Burj Al Arab is visible from many spots along the Jumeirah area, from Dubai Marina and the Palm. However, if you want to see a close-up unobstructed view of Burj Al Arab , you can either walk the bridge leading to the building or go for a drink at Al Naseem Hotel’s beach bar. Joining a yacht tour is also a great way to enjoy the views of this iconic hotel.

Finally, Madinat Jumeirah, which is the next destination today on your 7-day Dubai itinerary is also a great place to have glimpses of the iconic hotel.

6) Madinat Jumeirah

A city within a city, Madinat Jumeirah is the other must-visit place in Dubai. Inspired by the Arabic citadel Madinat Jumeirah consists of luxury hotels, ornate souks, and dozens of bars, and restaurants many of which are boasting fantastic views over the river which snakes between beige-hued traditional Arabic houses.

Dubai in 7 days: Madinat Jumeirah, photo by Shubham Mittal@ Unsplash

Legendary  Burj al Arab hotel  is also visible from many vantage points. You can even take an Abra boat and sail different routes across the 5 kilometers long river. Note it is not a local experience but rather a fancy tourist attraction that may cost you anywhere from 100-850 AED depending on the duration and route (unless you are a hotel guest who gets to ride Abra free of charge).

Madinat Jumeirah is a great place to wrap up your evening in Dubai as you have so many wonderful places to dine at.

How to get to the Palm Jumeirah

  • By metro, tram, and monorail: come out of Sobha Realty Metro station in Dubai Marina, cross the bridge to the Marina side, and take the tram to the Palm Jumeirah station. Come out and take the Palm Jumeirah monorail footbridge to get to the monorail station. Monorail stops at the Pointe and also at the Atlantis hotel. The monorail ticket costs 20 AED (~5 USD) one way and 30 AED (~8 USD) return and can be bought at the monorail station.
  • By car: easiest, most flexible, and fastest way to visit all the spots in the Palm Jumeirah, parking is available and free at the places mentioned above.
  • Taxi: you will need it to visit the Palm Corniche on the Dubai Marina side as it is too far to walk from the Atlantis hotel.

How to get to Madinat Jumeirah

  • Driving or taxi. Metro does not stop at Madinat Jumeirah. The closest station is Emirates Mall, which is 2 kilometers away.

Where to stay in Palm Jumeirah or Madinat Jumeirah :

  • Radisson Beach Palm Jumeirah $$- modern minimalistic affordable (as for the Palm Jumeirah area) beach resort with an outdoor pool overlooking a fantastic view of the Marina.
  • Jumeirah Al Qasr $$$$- boasting its own private beach overlooking Burj Al Arab at the distance and Dubai Marina, this is one of the most beautiful luxury resorts in Dubai.

DAY 5 of 7-Days in Dubai Itinerary: a day trip to the desert and Hatta

Dubai day trips:.

  • Desert Safari in Mleiha
  • Visit the mountain town of Hatta and Hatta dam

On your 5 th day in Dubai, I recommend taking a break from shiny buildings and going exploring beyond the city. Visiting the core natural element of the country, the magnificent desert, is an absolute must on any UAE itinerary.

However, unlike many recommendations you may find online for a usual Dubai desert safari, I would love to suggest something different. In my humble opinion, a better option is to spend your day exploring the desert landscapes and also pay a visit to the barren UAE mountains in Hatta. If two activities sound a bit of a stretch, then pick one that sparks your interest the most.

To visit both, the mountains of Hatta and the beautiful desert, you will either have to join a to u r, or rent a car to visit independently (my preferred option). Read on to find out more.

1) Mleiha desert

The most beautiful sand dunes in close proximity to Dubai are located in Mleiha, Sharjah Emirate. Orange-hued unbelievably scenic desert landscapes are accompanied by unusual rock formations rising above the dunes. I have been to different desert locations around UAE, and Mleiha tops the list.

Day trips from Dubai- Mleiha desert and Camel rock

How to visit Mleiha desert:

  • If you rent a car in Dubai , you can drive to Mleiha Archeological Center and then hire a driver to take you inside the dunes. It takes 1 hour to drive from Dubai to Mleiha.
  • Otherwise, if you do not drive, you have the option to join a fantastic top-rated experience on a guided tour from Dubai. It includes a visit to the Mleiha desert, stargazing, and dinner. -> BOOK HERE

Magical Mleiha desert, you can visit this place on your own as a day trip from Dubai by car

2) Hatta mountain town and Hatta Dam

Hatta is an exclave mountain town that belongs to the Emirate of Dubai. It is located 1.5 hours drive from Dubai and can be easily combined with a visit to Mleiha if you have your own vehicle, or join a tour that covers both.

Hatta boasts dramatic landscapes of the Hajar mountain range, lush green farmlands, and a turquoise water dam. Visiting Hatta feels like appearing in a completely different world from what many visitors envision when they think of Dubai.

Day trip from Dubai to Hatta mountain town and Hatta dam

A traditional town in the UAE can keep you busy all day, as there are many outdoor activities to engage in: hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, Hatta hub park with obstacle courses, and other fun activities. You can even stay overnight and have a unique glamping experience in one of the “ glampsites ”. However, if you only have half a day on your Dubai itinerary, then visiting Hatta dam where you can also kayak and the heritage village of Hatta is a must.

  • If you are not driving, then check out a tour that combines both- a visit to Hatta and Mleiha dunes. -> BOOK HERE .
  • If you prefer visiting only Hatta, check out this top-rated half-day trip from Dubai-> BOOK HERE .

5) Yas Island (Ferrari World or Warner Bros)

If you love amusement parks, then look no further than Yas Island in Abu Dhabi which is home to the world-famous Ferrari World and Warner Bros theme parks .

If you are visiting just for half a day you will have to pick one or the other, depending on what thrills you more. The amusement parks are massive and you can spend there a whole day. Yet if you have 3-4 hours, you can still try the most fun rollercoasters.

Ferrari World is the World’s first Ferrari-branded theme park. Famed for the fastest and highest loop roller coasters in the world , Ferrari World is not for the faint-hearted. I tried all the scary rides and I have to admit, I am not sure if I will ever go for the second round any time soon. It was scary!

Meanwhile, Warner Bros is the world’s largest indoor theme park revolving around famous movie characters from Bugs Bunny to Batman . There are over 60 rides and you can also meet the characters and interact with them.

During our 3-hour visit, we managed to only tackle Gotham City and a few more attractions. At first, I was skeptical that this park is just for kids, but I ended up enjoying it a lot. Thus, if you love movies, you will love Warner Bros theme park.

For the last day on your 7 days in Dubai itinerary, I have put together several attractions to choose from. Note that it is impossible to do them all, at most two (except for dinner which you can have late).

1) Expo City

Expo City is a former mega site of Expo 2020 Dubai . The area was transformed into a sustainable city and kept several thematic and country pavilions that can be visited today. If you missed the world’s largest exhibition, which takes place in a different country every 5 years focusing on culture, sustainability, technological advancement, and future developments, the good news is that you can still see some of the best remaining Dubai Expo 2020 pavilions.

Expo City: Saudi Arabia pavilion is one of the remaining Expo 2020 pavilions that you can visit

Those include UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, and Australia to name a few pavilions, and also thematic Terra (sustainability), Alif (mobility), Opportunity, and Vision pavilions.

  • Opening times: Expo City is open 24/7, and pavilions are open 10 AM- 6 PM daily.
  • Price: 50 AED per pavilion, or 120 AED for a day pass that includes all pavilions. Tickets can be purchased here .
  • How to get to Expo City: by metro to Expo City station; or by car, plenty of free parking is available.

2) Dubai Miracle Garden

Dubai Miracle Garden is yet another record on Dubai’s attractions list. It is the World’s largest flower garden. The garden takes up a massive 72000 sqm area filled with gigantic sculptures of fairy-tale and cartoon characters, life-sized castles, and even an airplane, all covered in over 150 million colorful flowers.

Miracle Garden won a Guinness Award as the largest vertical garden in the world! The site is truly impressive and if you are visiting Dubai in winter, you may add it to your last day in Dubai itinerary.

Best things to do in Dubai in 7 days: Miracle Gardens

Best time to go:  the garden is operational from mid-November to mid-May when the weather is cooler in Dubai. The site opens at 9 AM, thus try to come early on weekdays to avoid crowds. It is a very popular attraction in Dubai and gets packed, especially on weekends.

  • Opening times: 9 AM- 9 PM.
  • Ticket price: 75 AED
  • Getting there: by public transport, you must arrive at Emirates Mall metro station and catch bus number 105 to Dubai Miracle Gardens. This journey might take around 45 minutes. Faster is to take a taxi or drive (plenty of free parking spots are available on-site).
  • Book your Miracle Garden ticket HERE .

3) Dubai waterparks

Dubai has a few large waterparks which are super fun to spend time with family and friends on a hot day. Two of the best waterparks in Dubai are:

1. Aquaventure , the world’s largest waterpark , hosts over 100 slides. It is located in the Atlantis hotel.

  • Opening times are 10 AM to 5:30 PM.
  • The ticket price for an adult is 365 AED and a little less for children from 3 to 12 years old. Atlantis’ hotel guests visit free of charge.
  • Book your Aquaventure waterpark tickets HERE .

2. Wild Wadi is a smaller but also fantastic waterpark located next to Burj Al Arab. The entry costs around 250 AED, opening times are from 10 AM to 6 PM daily. Guests of Jumeirah hotels (including those of Burj al Arab) get complimentary passes.

Good to know: Aquaventure is the most popular waterpark in Dubai and it gets extremely busy on weekends. Avoid going on a weekend if you can, and try visiting early on a weekday. If you travel to Dubai during Ramadan, you will be in luck, as it is the quietest month to visit attractions like waterparks when almost all city is fasting until sunset. Also, the opening times of the waterparks get extended during the holy month.

4) Thrilling activities in Dubai

Dubai is famous for all sorts of adrenaline-filled activities. If you want to take your visit to Dubai to the next level, you have quite a few exciting options on offer. Note those are also the most expensive activities, but worth at least once in a lifetime.

The most well-known and definitely scariest activity is skydiving in Dubai . If you dare to jump off the plane you will get to see the best views over Dubai Marina and the whole of Palm Jumeirah from the bird’s eye view perspective. I have never done that, but I know many people who did and they claim it to be one of the best experiences in their lives .

Skydive Dubai- you also get a picture if you dare to do it, photo by ihjaaz manarikk @Unsplash

Other unique adrenaline-pumping activities in Dubai that also include being in the sky, yet require slightly less courage are:

  • Zipline across Dubai Marina (Xline Dubai Marina- the longest urban zipline)-> BOOK HERE

5) Fancy dinner with a view

Finish your busy 7 days in Dubai itinerary with a stellar dinner with a view. Treat yourself to a fancy meal at one of many chic restaurants that boast spectacular views over the city of Dubai. To name them all would be impossible but here are a few great suggestions in different areas of Dubai:

  • Atmosphere, Downtown Dubai -high up on the 122nd floor of Burj Khalifa, this restaurant is situated in the prime of the prime locations in Dubai. Cuisine matches the venue as well.
  • Basanti and Co , Bluewaters island – this restaurant serves Indian cuisine and overlooks the JBR coastline.
  • Chuan , The Palm Jumeirah – located on the Pointe, this restaurant serves the finest Chinese cuisine and boasts views of Atlantis hotel. In the evening you also get to see a fountain show.
  • Marina Social , Dubai Marina , Intercontinental Hotel – this Michelin-starred hotel has some of the most beautiful views over the Dubai Marina, and the food is nothing short but exceptional.
  • Thiptara , Downtown Dubai, the Palace hotel – a wonderful venue for a romantic dinner with the Dubai Fountain show at Burj Lake (in case you missed it on your first day in Dubai).

The b est time to visit Dubai, UAE

The best time to visit Dubai is from mid-November to March . The temperatures are pleasant during the day ranging from 25-30 degrees. In December you may even be lucky to see some rain in the UAE, with temperatures during the day dropping a little below 20, but this is rare.

Shoulder season in UAE is October-mid November and mid-March to April. It is quite hot during those months, with temperatures ranging from 30-35 degrees Celsius), but can be bearable if you stay by the sea or pool, and do sightseeing early morning and evenings.

The hottest months are May-September, with June, July, and August being unbearably hot, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius and even above. Thus, summer is the worst time to visit Dubai, UAE.

Instead, look at the unique Salalah, Oman , which is a perfect destination to visit in the Middle Eastern during the summer because of the subtropical climate and cooler temperatures.

How many days to spend in Dubai?

7 days in Dubai is a perfect amount of time to see most important places and highlights of Dubai and include a couple of day trips. Nonetheless, as you can see, the itinerary is quite intense with many things to do in Dubai on each day.

If you prefer to have a more relaxed vacation with ample of time at the beach, 10 days or even 2-weeks in Dubai, UAE is a good amount of time to balance between activities and chill out time . Moreover, having more than 10-14 days in UAE will alow you to explore the country deeper. You can then visit other Emirates of UAE, such as Ras Al Khaimah and Fujeirah where you will find many unique things to do: experience authentic Emirati culture, visit forts and mosques, go to Jebel Jais, the highest mountain in UAE, and even do some hiking.

Finally, extending your time in Dubai beyond 2 weeks, you can also include a road trip to Oman .

How to get to Dubai from Dubai International Airport (DXB)

You can get to Dubai from Dubai International Airport (DXB) in the following ways:

  • By metro -the cheapest but the slowest method. Dubai metro serves Dubai Airport terminals 1 and 3, it does not serve terminal 2.
  • By taxi – beige color taxis are official metered government taxis and they are available at the airport arrivals. The base fare inside the airport of Dubai is 25 AED (~6 USD) which is added on top of the final fare. Be aware not to take any of the Lexus cars which are a fancy version of a taxi (you will certainly be offered one).
  • By private transfer – a convenient way for a group or a single person, costs almost the same as a taxi; you will have somebody waiting for you at the airport, and they will know how to navigate to your hotel without having to explain the route (happens with the regular taxi drivers as not all of them use Google Maps)-> BOOK A PRIVATE TRANSFER HERE .
  • By car – if you are hiring a car in Dubai , the best place to pick it up is at Dubai Airport so you can drive to the city immediately.

Dubai SIM cards , internet, and WIFI

Esim card in uae.

To stay connected, you can get an eSIM card before landing on Airalo website . Packages for 7 day and 30 days are available and the price ranges between 8 USD to 35 USD. Having an e-SIM is advantageous to the regular local SIM card because you do not need to remove your home SIM card from your phone, and you can also switch between mobile operators.

The prices are slightly higher than local SIM cards, but not significantly for the convenience you get.

Local SIM card in UAE

If you want to purchase a local SIM card in the UAE, you can do it as soon as you land at Dubai International Airport (DXB). Etisalat, Du , and Virgin Mobile sell sim cards and tourist packages with data and minutes. Etisalat is known to have the widest coverage in the UAE. But for your 7 days in Dubai, the other two operators are more than enough and they offer better deals.

Wifi in Dubai

Free Wifi is widely available in all hotels, and also malls, coffee shops, and restaurants.

What do things cost in Dubai? UAE travel budget

Dubai, the UAE is an expensive destination. Hotels, restaurants, activities, and even food in supermarkets cost a little bit more than in Europe. Nonetheless, it is still not as expensive as New York, or Tokyo, for example. Not yet at least.

Nonetheless, it is very easy to spend money in Dubai. I often joke saying that stepping out of your apartment already is 10 AED (2 USD). You just end up buying something. And if you are not careful, expenses accumulate pretty fast.

Here is a brief summary of what main things cost in Dubai , just for you to have an idea and manage expectations.

Hotels for 2 people: 25 USD- to unlimited

  • 25-40 USD for a bed in the dormitory;
  • 40-80 USD for a hotel or self-serviced apartment in Deira or an area with no public transport connection (far away from all sights);
  • 80-250 USD for a mid-range hotel or self-serviced apartment in a convenient area such as Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai;
  • 250- whatever USD- luxury and ultra-luxury accommodation.

Restaurants per person: 1.5 USD- to unlimited

  • 1.5 – 7 USD per meal at Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi low-key restaurants/eateries;
  • 7 – 20 USD per meal in a regular restaurant, depending f you having a sandwich or a main course;
  • 20 USD- 40 USD per meal in an upscale restaurant (but not the fanciest one);
  • 40 USD and up per main meal in a really fancy restaurant.

Coffee costs 4-8 USD depending on the lace, and type of coffee. Thus, on average 6 USD for a cappuccino or café late.

Petrol prices: 98 (Super) 0.84 USD (3.09 AED) per liter; 95 (special) 0.81 USD (2.97 AED) per liter.

Car rental cost: starts at around 20-22 USD per day with Discovercars .

Parking costs in Dubai

Regular street parking costs (RTA parking):

  • in cheaper zones 2 AED per hour, 5 AED per two hours, 8 AED per 3 hours, 11 AED per 4 hours, and then the cycle repeats.
  • in more expensive zones (Dubai Marina, Dubai Downtown, JLT) is 2 AED per half an hour, or 4 AED per hour, and the maximum time limit to pay for in one go is 4 hours.
  • you can pay by SMS to 7275, by inserting the message of the plate number, parking code, and the number of hours (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4). Instructions are available on the street meter. NOL cards can also be used to pay for parking, and so is cash.

Alternatively, there are expensive parking garages all around Dubai where the rate varies from 10 AED to 20 AED per hour.

Parking at shopping malls is free either for unlimited time or for 2-3 hours (depending on the Mall).

Street parking in Dubai is free on Sundays and public holidays, as well as at night from 10 PM to 8 AM.

Taxi costs: 0.52 USD (1.91 AED) per kilometer. For example, it costs around 14 USD (50 AED) to taxi from Dubai Marina to Dubai Downtown (a 25-minute journey of around ~20 kilometers).

Attractions costs in Dubai:

  • 15- 100 USD (50- 400 AED) for the most popular attractions;
  • 200-550 USD for fancy adrenaline-filled activities only in Dubai.

Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 moon sighting highlights: Shawwal crescent NOT sighted in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE. Eid on April 10

During the total solar eclipse tonight, the sun will briefly get completely cloaked by the moon and will be aligned with the Earth in a straight line, leading to darkness during the daytime in several countries, as the moon will block the sun completely and a result of this, the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon to mark the end of Ramadan 2024 and beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr may be delayed until April 09, 2024. The sun will remain cloaked for a total of four minutes, during which its enigmatic outer layer will be illuminated.

Since the Middle East, USA, UK, Canada etc started fasting on March 11, 2024, the Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia had called on all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the new crescent moon on the evening of Monday, Ramadan 29, 1445 Hijri, corresponding to April 8, 2024, that would mark the end of Ramadan and the onset of the month of Shawwal. The Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted by the Muslims in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Turkey, Iran and other countries in the Middle East on April 8 evening, after breaking the Ramadan fast at maghrib or evening payers hence, chand raat there will be on Tuesday, April 09 and the day of Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated the next day i.e. on April 10, 2024, indicating that Muslims will observe a 30-day fast this Ramadan instead of 29 days.

As per Indian time, the total solar eclipse on April 08, 2024 will take place from 9:12pm to 2:22am, in between which, Muslims across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, USA, United Kingdom, UAE, Qatar and in other countries were gearing up to sight the crescent moon of Shawwal that will mark the end of Ramadan 2024 and the day of Eid-ul-Fitr this year as it is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, after the sighting of the new moon or crescent moon. It is a major Islamic festival where "Eid" means "celebration" and "Fitr" means "breaking of the fast" and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide but the exact date of the festival varies each year, as Islam follows a lunar calendar that is based on the sighting of the new moon and this year, Ramadan was expected to get over on Monday, April 08 with a treat for sky gazers and celestial body lovers since the new moon occurring on April 08 was anticipated to be seen with a total solar eclipse in specific locations on Earth.

With the edges of western Europe slated to experience a partial eclipse tonight, some areas in the British Isles - mostly western Scotland and Ireland - will be able to see part of the moon moving in front of the sun but although the new moon will become visible as a dark circle silhouetted against the blazing surface of the sun, it is the first slim crescent forming around the moon's edge that observers must report before Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 is declared. According to Birmingham Mail, Midlands-based moonsighting expert Dr Zahid Nawaz said, "There is a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, which will impact the visibility of the Shawwal crescent moon this year. This impacts only those countries who attempt to sight the crescent. However, those who follow astronomical calculations will also be impacted as the moon sets before sunset on Monday."

Eid-Ul-Fitr 2024: Shawwal crescent moon sighting in US

The United States Naval Observatory reportedly stated, "The sighting of the lunar crescent within one day of new moon is usually difficult. The crescent at this time is quite thin, has a low surface brightness, and can easily be lost in the twilight. Generally, the lunar crescent will become visible to suitably-located, experienced observers with good sky conditions about one day after new moon. However, the time that the crescent actually becomes visible varies quite a bit from one month to another. Naked-eye sightings as early as 15.5 hours after new moon have been reliably reported while observers with telescopes have made reliable reports as early as 12.1 hours after new moon."
