Take a Road Trip to GTA V's Most Incredible Real Life Locations

GTA 5 is so much more than an epic crime game. It's also a pretty awesome road trip quest. Next time you're driving down the Pacific Coast, hit up some of the real-life locations from Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos . A word of caution: skip the hookers and don't plow through pedestrians.

There are several areas in Los Santos, the major ones are Blaine County, Downtown, Little Seoul, South Los Santos, Vespucci Beach and Rockford Hills. Practically all are based on real-life neighborhoods surrounding L.A. Such as Downtown Los Angeles, L.A.'s Koreatown, South Central, Venice Beach and Beverly Hills.

Big Creek Bridge ( Real-Life : Bixby Bridge )

This is Big Creek Bridge, you can find it on the West Side of the game. In real-life it's the iconic Bixby Bridge .

Los Santos Observatory on Verdant Bluffs ( Real-Life : Griffith Observatory )

The Los Santos Observatory is located on Verdant Bluffs. No major gang activity to speak of, and no safe houses. This place is super easy to visit in real-life as it's modeled after Griffith Observatory , a popular tourist attraction in L.A. with loads of spacey and sciencey stuffs.

Vinewood Sign ( Real-Life : Hollywood Sign )

According to the GTA V Manual, the Vinewood sign is "a beacon of false hope for impressionable young hopefuls the world over, no visit to Los Santos is complete without a selfie at the Vinewood Sign." This is clearly an homage to the Hollywood sign (also a "beacon of false hope for impressionable young hopefuls the world over.")

Vinewood Bowl ( Real-Life : Hollywood Bowl )

Vinewood Bowl is an entertainment venue, north of Vinewood. It's based on the real-life Hollywood Bowl in L.A.

The Oriental ( Real-Life : Graumann's Chinese Theater )

The Oriental was modeled on Grauman's Chinese Theatre (now called TCL Chinese Theatre ).

Von Crastenberg Hotel ( Real-Life : Roosevelt Hotel )

This is the location for Franklin's hotel assassination mission. The reward is $7,000 and unlock a New Safe House. In real life, the Von Crastenburg is the Roosevelt Hotel .

Tequil La-La ( Real-Life : Whisky a Go Go )

Tequi-la-la is a nightclub featured in the side mission, Vinewood Souveniers - Willy, in which Trevor has to get a gold tooth from Willy, the bassist for Love Fist. The club was modeled after Hollywood's Whisky a Go Go , a rock 'n roll nightclub.

Playboy Mansion (EASTER EGG)

The Playboy mansion Easter Egg is found in northwest Richmond. Visit it at night when it's covered in blue and pink neon lights.

Del Perro Pier ( Real-Life : Santa Monica Pier )

Del Perro Pier is modeled after Santa Monica Pier .

Vespucci Beach ( Real-Life : Venice Beach )

Vespucci Beach is a based on a combination of Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

Los Santos Forum ( Real-Life : L.A. Forum )

South of downtown Los Santos is the Los Santos Forum (AKA L.A. Forum ) and (in GTA 5) it's the location of the 8-Track stadium race.

Jefferson Towers ( Real-Life : Watts Towers )

The Jefferson Towers are located in East Los Santos. The real-life towers are actually the Watts Towers in Watts, L.A., they're a popular tourist attraction in South Central L.A.

Los Santos Storm Drain ( Real-Life : L.A. River )

The Los Santos storm drain appears in three missions: The Jewel Store Job, Fame or Shame, and Hood Safari. In real-life, it's based on the L.A. River .

The Alamo Sea, AKA Sandy Shores ( Real-Life : Salton Sea )

The Alamo Sea at the foot of Mount Chiliad in Blaine County is described as "a putrid, salt-rich lake." This is pretty accurate since it's based on the real-life Salton Sea , which is often described as pretty gross-smelling .

Hippie town in the desert ( Real-Life : Salvation Mountain )

Salvation Mountain served as the inspiration for GTA 5's Hippie Town in the Desert. It's basically an art installation that serves as a "tribute to God and his gift to the world." Yeah, let's go with that.

GTA 5 is so much more than an epic crime game. It's also a pretty badass road trip quest. Next time you're driving down the Pacific Coast, hit up some of the real-life locations from Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos.

There are several areas in Los Santos, the major ones are Blaine County, Downtown, Little Seoul, South Los Santos, Vespucci Beach and Rockford Hills. Practically all are based on real-life neighborhoods surrounding L.A. like downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, South Central, Venice Beach and Beverly Hills.

Bixby Canyon Bridge

The Big Creek Bridge, which you can find on the West Side of the game's Los Santos, might look familiar to you. That's because in real-life, it's the iconic Bixby Bridge, which is actually located a bit north of LA, in Big Sur.

Griffith Observatory

The Los Santos Observatory is located on Verdant Bluffs. No major gang activity to speak of, and no safe houses. The Von Crastenburg is the location for Franklin's hotel assassination mission. The reward is $7,000 and you unlock a New Safe House. In real life, the Von Crastenburg is the Roosevelt Hotel, which is reportedly haunted by the ghost of Marilyn Monroe, and has been used in countless movies and TV shows.

Los Santos's Del Perro Pier is modeled after the historic Santa Monica Pier, which has a classic roller coaster, a ferris wheel, restaurants, games, and tons of people watching.

Another interesting part of Los Santos that you can visit is Vespucci Beach, which was a based on a combination of Santa Monica and Venice Beach, the notoriously weird beachside community with a great boardwalk.

In the 1950's and 1960's, the Salton Sea was a popular resort destination, where celebs and stars came to vacation. When the lake's waters got so poisonous that the fish started to die, the yacht clubs and hotels were quickly abandoned and left to rot, leaving a strange, once-opulent mid-century ghost town on the lake's shores.

Short Trips is a series of three missions available in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of The Contract update.

2 players are required for each of these missions.

On first playthrough, the first tip is initiated by Franklin Clinton passing on an invitation from Dr. Dre to undertake a tour of Record A Studios . Players can invite an associate to join them as they enter the studio. After meeting Franklin and Lamar Davis inside, they take a short tour led by DJ Pooh . The players find the smoking room and sit down to smoke LD Organics weed, and are joined by Pooh, Franklin, and Lamar.

They then pass out and the player and their associate have an "out-of-body experience [1] ", where the host will control Franklin and the second player will control Lamar.

The second and third trip and subsequent trip replays are initiated by the host entering the studio, using the green Corona outside the smoking room, and then smoking the Special Strain.

In all missions, the players will not have access to their own weapons on the weapon wheel nor any of their armor, instead having a pre-defined weapon and ammo load-outs, but they will have access to their character's inventory of snacks via the Interaction Menu .

These missions initially became available to leaders after completing the The Contract: Dr. Dre , however with effect from the Valentine's Day 2022 event week [2] all players could access the missions immediately from the Pause Menu >Online> Play Job > Rockstar Created > Missions or Quick Job from their Mobile Phone , and they do not need to be completed sequentially. The Game description in the pause menu indicated the Rank requirement was 9999, however this is a display issue only, and all players from Rank 1 can launch the jobs.

To change the difficulty from the default setting of "Normal" to "Hard" players must first complete the mission concerned without any failure and they will then be able to change it via the Interaction Menu in the Smoking Room when replaying it. Restarting the game will reset the difficulty back to "Normal".

Short trip - seed capital [ ].

Lamar pulls Franklin out to deal with some business and ask DJ Pooh to look after his partners for them. Franklin and Lamar travel to LD Organics to restock from his weed supply. When they reach the warehouse, Lamar discovers that it was being raided by the Vagos. After fighting off the gang members outside and inside, they leave to find Lamar's Mule loaded with stock is being taken and fight to get the truck back.

Short Trip - Fire It Up [ ]

Lamar asks for Franklin's assistance in storming the Vagos' weed storage facilities in Blaine County and destroying their marijuana plants as payback for them having destroyed his stash and the Mule.

Short Trip - OG Kush [ ]

Main article: Short Trip - OG Kush

Lamar starts by showing Franklin his new LD Organics van which he explains is made of "LD Organics patented marijuana bioplastic", and tells Franklin that he was able to make a connection with a celebrity ( Jimmy Boston from the Epsilon Program ) to promote LD Organics as having a celebrity would definitely make the brand into a big thing and they travel to the Redwood Lights Track to make the deal. The Vagos storm the deal due to Lamar publicising the "top-secret location" on Snapmatic . After fighting off the Vagos, the pair drive the increasingly damaged weed-van back to the city and end up at Tequi-la-la .

• Sometimes, after completing a Short Trip mission, the player might retain the Franklin/Lamar model when they return to Freeroam . Dying in this state will turn the player invisible when they respawn.
• After completing a Short Trip mission, a customized radio wheel may be scrambled with stations excluded or added back in, to no stations showing up at all. Within the session, the solution is to go Inventory > Radio Station Favorites and reconfirm each choice, which will reset each station. Changing sessions will also reset the radio wheel to normal.
• Due to this, it is recommended to do the first Short Trip mission as soon as it becomes available. Leaving Grand Theft Auto Online will reset the mission marker and require the player to wait for the second phone call all over again.
• This issue was likely the reason the missions were unlocked on February 10th 2022 for all players via the Pause Menu and Quick Job.

How to Complete Short Trips in GTA V Online

Short Trips is a collection of fun story-based missions in which you and a friend get to play as Franklin and Lamar getting into all kinds of drug-related hijinx.

You'll get GTA$ 50,000 each time you complete a Short Trip mission, plus a bonus of GTA$ 100,000 the first time you complete one as each character. That means if you go play through all three twice right now, once as each character, you're in for GTA$ 900,000 in-pocket.

Most of this is pretty straight-forward, but if you want some extra help or just want to read a full walkthrough, you've come to the right place.

Before you go on, there are a few things to note about Short Trips:

• In order to play you MUST have another player.
• You will not have any of your regular guns or armor. Snacks, however, you will still be able to use so be sure to stock up.

How to Start Short Trips

Short trip - seed capital, short trip - fire it up, short trip - og kush.

It used to be that in order to unlock Short Trips you had to own an Agency and complete the VIP Contract with Dr. Dre . That's no longer the case.

Now you can also initiate Short Trips by going to the Pause Menu > Online > Jobs > Play Job > Rockstar Created > Missions > Short Trip (whichever one you wish to play). All players, no matter their rank, can initiate a Short Trip, even though it says it unlocks at rank 9999.

One thing that hasn't changed is that in order to play Short Trips you MUST play with one other player . So grab a friend or meet someone new and get started!

Franklin and Lamar find themselves driving into an ambush--Someone is trying to steal their stash! You must do your best to fight them off and protect your property.

Walkthrough:

• The mission starts with a tour of Dr. Dre's studio. After a long cutscene your characters will smoke some strong weed and have an out-of-body experience, becoming Franklin and Lamar.
• Once you're Franklin and Lamar, get into the car and follow the waypoint.
• When you arrive you'll find an aggressive gang waiting.
• The best way to go about taking them out is for one player to make their way down the alley, hiding behind garbage cans, etc., and the other to go around to the right. This way the enemies will be focused on the first player and the second can take them out while taking very little heat.
• Once everyone outside is toast, be sure to go take all their guns and bullets before you run inside, but keep your pistols equipped for now.
• Inside there will be four more enemies. Kill them easily with your pistols, then run around the room and get extra gear; Guns, bullets, and a first aid kit should be in the shelves. Equip your best weapons for the next part.
• You'll watch another long cutscene, after which you'll have to shoot at moving cars outside the back of a truck. You can't move or hide during this segment--All you can do is aim, shoot, and eat snacks. We recommend keeping your snack menu open so you can eat at any time while shooting.
• Shoot enough to stay alive until the truck parks at its destination.
• This is the final part, in which you'll need to take out more enemies and make your way to the driver of the truck, marked with a red dot.
• The driver will spawn in a different location each time you play, but is most likely on a rooftop somewhere. Watch for ladders and stairs to climb up.
• Once you kill him, grab the keys and you're done.

In this one Franklin and Lamar head out to destroy the product of a rival. You can initiate the mission by entering the Recording Studio after having completed Seed Capital , or by going through the Jobs menu as described above.

• You'll start out as Franklin and Lamar in front of the studio.
• Take the car and the motorcycle to the way point. You can race if you want, but the game will move into a cut scene whenever the first person arrives.
• Be sure to equip your guns as soon as you arrive as you'll only have knives equipped and there are enemies nearby.
• Walk toward the weed warehouse and kill enemies as you go.
• Once everyone is killed, go inside the warehouse where there will be one more to kill.
• Next, grab the fertilizer, pour it around all the weed plants, then shoot fertilizer puddles to light it.
• When the product is destroyed, head back outside where more enemies will be waiting.
• A Karin Technical will drive up. Shoot the guy on the gun and the driver, then steal the vehicle with one of you on the gun. There will be a lot of enemies to take out.
• The best way to go about driving to the next location is to take a detour. This way you won't run into any roadblocks of enemies on the way and in general you'll have less at a time.
• When you arrive at the second warehouse, just keep driving if there are a lot of enemies around. You can circle around several times, taking them out, until it seems safe enough to stop.
• When you're ready, head into the second warehouse.
• There won't be anyone waiting in this one so just destroy the product, then steal the van and head out.
• There will be more enemies on the drive and they'll be very good at maneuvering in your way. Keep going and make sure whoever's riding shotgun is doing their job.
• Once you reach the city the enemies will disappear and you can drive the rest of the way in peace to Franklin's place.

In the third and final Short Trip Lamar has a business prospect to check out and needs Franklin to come along and watch his back. You can initiate the mission by entering the Recording Studio after having completed Fire It Up , or by going through the Jobs menu as described above.

• Once again Franklin and Lamar start outside the studio. This time Lamar is showing off his fancy new van.
• Drive the van to the waypoint destination. On the way Franklin will be dropped off to stake out with a sniper on the top of a crane.
• Watch the cutscene, then be ready to fight. Lots of enemies will arrive right after the scene.
• After several waves of enemies, a helecopter will also arrive. Lamar is fairly exposed so try to take it out quickly.
• Take out all the enemies, then get back in the van.
• As you drive away, a lot more enemies will try to stop you on the road. Meanwhile, the potmobile you're driving will start smoking and get Franklin and Lamar high AF.
• Eventually the enemies will drop off and when you arrive at the waypoint you're done. Enjoy the cutscene!
