We recently enjoyed a 90-minute sightseeing cruise with Lake Mead Cruises in Las Vegas. Boarding was a breeze and there was the option to take a photo before boarding, available for purchase later for $10. The main deck was enclosed and air conditioned for comfort during the hot Nevada weather. A full bar and snack bar were on board for drinks and food at an extra cost. For a better view, there was also the option to sit outdoors on the upper level. The staff, especially the ladies at the bar and snack bar, were very friendly. One thing to note is that boarding takes place at a marina in a national park, requiring a $25 entrance fee for those without a national park pass. It's something to keep in mind when purchasing tickets.

We took a 90-minute sightseeing cruise at noon. Boarding was easy and quick. You have the option to take a photo prior to boarding and purchase it towards the end of your cruise for $10. The main deck is enclosed and has air conditioned for those hot Nevada days. They have a full bar as well as a snack bar where you can order drinks and food at an additional price. You can sit outdoors on the upper level to get a better view of everything. The ladies at the bar and snack bar are very friendly. One thing not mentioned when purchasing tickets is that boarding is done at a marina in a national park, so there is a $25 entrance fee if you don't have a national park pass.

A very nice afternoon cruise to Hoover Dam via Lake Mead. Onboard drinks and food are available. The cheeseburgers were fantastic. Friendly service. A wonderful time! Nice little gift shop at the pier. Great views throughout, with pre-recorded informative narrative history onboard.

Beautiful experience... the staff was extremely polite drinks & and an appetizer was great. I definitely will go back next time I'll take my kids😃

We did the Dinner Tour and it was wonderful. The Dinner was very good, better than expected. The service was excellent. The scenery is for sure worth a long ride. The price is fair. 2 relaxing hours. The only negative point is, that wine and cocktails are served in plastic cups - water in glasses.

It was a nice cruise, the explanations are interesting. Great view of the damn!

Men caught on camera destroying ancient rock formations at national park

LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 /Gray News) - Two men visiting a popular hiking site in Lake Mead, Nevada, are coming under fire for destroying it.

“Why would you even do something like this? Like, why on Earth would you do this?” John Haynes, public information officer for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, questioned.

His reaction came after seeing video of the men destroying what took nature millions of years to create in only a few minutes.

“This almost feels like a personal attack in a way,” Haynes contended.

The damage done at the National Park Service site cannot be fixed.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials are now seeking information on the two men who were seen damaging the protected rock formations.

In the video, a girl could be heard screaming, “Daddy, don’t fall,” as the two men push chunks of red stone off the edge of a formation at the federally protected site.

“It pretty appalling. It is kind of disgusting,” Haynes added.

The damage occurred Sunday evening at 5:45 p.m. at Redstone Dunes Trail, one of the most popular hiking spots in the park.

“That’s so beautiful. It’s one of my favorite places in the park and they’re up there just destroying it. I don’t understand that,” Haynes stated.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is massive. It is a lot of park to patrol.

“It is 1.5 million acres. We have two big lakes, a chunk of the Colorado River. It gets pretty difficult based on our staff levels to be everywhere all at once,” Haynes explained.

With 6 million visitors each year, they rely on the public to also keep watch over what is owned by all, especially in remote areas of the park.

“If you are out of cellphone range or you don’t know the number, at least try to capture if you can, if it is safe, some kind of photo or video of the activity taking place. You don’t have to engage people. Many people don’t feel safe engaging others out there, and that’s OK. It’s really important to let us know,” Haynes said.

Since the men have not been charged, KVVU is not showing their faces.

But if caught for the federal offense, Haynes said they could face prison time.

“It can range from six months in jail and a $5,000 fine all the way up to a felony offense,” Haynes reported.

Charges for toppling natural rock formations are not unprecedented.

In Utah, two Boy Scout leaders caught toppling boulders in Goblin Valley State Park were charged and had to pay thousands in restitution.

The video was shown to people at the park visitor center.

“I believe in Darwin. They should have gone down with the rock,” one woman reacted.

Rangers said information that could help identify someone damaging a protect site can be reported to the National Park Service’s nationwide hotline at 888-653-0009 or online .

For the Mid-Day Sightseeing Cruise, please keep the following in mind:

• Reservations are not required but strongly recommended.
• Boarding begins approximately 15 minutes prior to departure.
• Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover Card are acceptable forms of payment for online reservations.
• Children's prices apply to those ages 2 through 11. Children under age 2 are free, but must be booked by calling 866.292.9191 and issued a boarding pass at check-in.
• Smoking is not permitted inside the vessel, but smoking is allowed in designated areas on the outside decks.
• Dress is casual for Mid-Day Sightseeing Cruise. Shoes and casual street clothes are required (at minimum). Passengers in uncovered bathing suits may not board. Layered clothing is recommended.
• Lake Mead Cruises is located inside the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The National Park Service charges a fee to enter the area. For current rates and details, please visit  www.nps.gov/lake .
• Coast Guard regulation may require a brief search of any bags brought on board. By purchasing a ticket, you are consenting to possible search.
• Firearms are not allowed on Lake Mead Cruises landing or aboard any cruise.
• No pets are allowed inside the landing or on the boat, except for trained service animals.
• Outside food or beverages are not allowed on the landing or boat.
