Maxfli XS Tour Balls

Maxfli xs tour balls .

Unbeatable two-piece distance with Tour-caliber spin, feel and control New 432 Deep Dimple pattern promotes a lower, more penetrating trajectory and delivers the tightest dispersion pattern of any competitive high performance two-piece ball

USER REVIEWS

I have been playing the XS Tour for the last 6 months or so. Great control on and around the greens. Doesn't back-up, but holds very well. Perfect combination of distance and control for me. Plays well into the breeze and rolls well off the driver. softer than NXT Titleist and Maxfli Noodle.

Customer Service

Absolutely no problems, except rebate expired 2 months ago!

I got a sleeve of these at an outing an was very impressed. IMHO they have a great feel, good distance and decent control. I can't make them suck back but they hold the greens well and will spin back on short irons hit into a breeze. One minor complaint is they seem to balloon a little into the wind. Great bang for the buck.

Nike TW, Titleist ProV1

I've tried this along with other low compression distance balls such as Titleist NXT Tour/Distance, Maxfli Noodle, Dunlop Loco, and Precept Laddie. All of which goes quite long from a distance perspective, but the only balls that held the green with good spin action are Titleist NXT Tour (not distance) and Precept Laddie. On contact, the Laddies were too soft and too mute (causing great uncomfort and steering the shot somewhat). The NXT Tour is the poor man's Pro V1's. Unfortunately, I would say the Maxfli XS Tour was worst of them all, then followed by Noodle and Loco. These balls are true distance balls that feel softer. I think I was playing better with Top Flite 3000 Super Long, which is a pure distance ball that surprisingly held the green!? Pricing is not great neither for XS Tour because there are plenty of better selections nearing $1 to $1.50 per ball.

Already mentioned.

Started using this ball late in the summer when my game went south. I was looking for a quality ball with a lower price tag. I find XS Tour to be a quality ball for the price. Beware, a well struck wedge or short iron will scuff this ball in a hurry. These Maxflis hold greens, but I haven't backed one up yet in about 30 rounds. They have a good soft feel on chips and putts, and have stayed in round (except the scuffing). Not a high performance ball, but the XS Tour easliy out performs its price.

Still waiting for that rebate!! Been several weeks.

Strata Ultimate 2, Strata Professional Distance

Good distance, nice feel, but these balls have not held greens for me. Even on high wedge shots, they will release several feet forward rather than checking up. You can't beat it for a buck, but this is not a GREAT all-around ball IMO.

My father got me a sleeve of these balls for an X-mas stocking stuffer. I used them for the first 3 rounds I went golfing this year AND shot my first sub 90 round with it. I knew it was a Masfli, but didn't know what model it was until yesterday (9/8/02) when I got my dad to check the store where he bought the balls. Great feel, decent distance and now I see the price at $10 for 15?!? I've been a DT Spin man for the last year at $15 but I'll be a Maxfli XS Tour man from now on.

It's a golf ball for God's sake

Titlist DT Spin.

This ball represents a great value. Currently priced at $14.99 or $15.99 (less a $5 mfg. rebate] for a 15 ball pack. My home course has a number of holes with deep rough, woods, and water. Errant shots were costing not only strokes, but $3.50 or thereabouts for a premium ball. Then on the recommendation of a salesman at a golf shop I tried the XS Tour. This ball is a very solid performer. Good distance and feel. Not a great deal of spin, but consistent predictable performance. As a previous reviewer noted the XS Tour will scuff as the result of clean wedge shots, but not sufficiently to impede performance or detract from its value. .Recently review very positively in Golf Digest. Bottom line: a very solid performer at a great price

Precept Laddie, Maxfli Patriot, Titleist NXT Tour.

I've used these off and on for the past 3 years. It was a really good $2 ball last year, but it's an outstanding $1 ball in the new 15 ball bonus pack. It's a little firmer than the new generation two piece spin balls. But the spin and control is still there. If you rely on touch around the greens, you won't be disapointed. Durability is good, but a well struck wedge will fray the cover.

Good. Sent an email to Maxfli to confirm that they didn't change the ball when they put them in bonus packs. They replied same day that the ball was unchanged from last year.

NXT Tour, CB1 Blue, Srixon Hi Spin, Precept MC Spin & Tour Advantage

Maxfli Tour S Golf Ball Review: A Coach’s Perspective

The Maxfli Tour Golf Ball is like the perfect car for golfers: it feels right, and it works great. Picking a golf ball should make you happy and confident when you play. Lots of balls say they are soft, spin well, or fly far. But the Maxfli ball does all of this really well.

As a golf coach, I’ve tried them myself and really liked them. They’re not perfect though. I also asked my students what they thought. They had mostly good things to say as well.

In this Maxfli Tour S Golf Ball review, we’ll talk about why this ball is special. Opening a box of Maxfli balls is like getting an exciting gift. They look good, and they play even better. When you hit them right, they go far and straight, even farther than some other balls. Sure, they’re not top-of-the-line balls, but the price is what makes them a great choice.

So, let’s dive in and see why these Maxfli balls are worth trying!

What Does “Tour” Mean?

Ball quality, dimples and aerodynamics, compression, feedback from testing, who is maxfli, 1. titleist avx, 2. bridgestone tour b rx, 3. wilson staff triad, final thoughts, maxfli tour s golf ball review.

Maxfli 2023 Tour S Golf Balls-12 Pack White (1)

  • Impressive Driving : Many users have noted that these balls provide standout distance, easily rivaling the more renowned competitors.
  • Masterful Spin : With the Maxfli Tour, you’re not just hitting far, but you’re hitting with precision. They offer great spin control, especially in the short game.
  • Affordable Quality : Perhaps one of its standout features is the price. For a Tour ball, the Maxfli offers solid performance at a more wallet-friendly price.
  • Competes with the Best : User reviews often compare it favorably with the Titleist ProV1s, a gold standard in the golfing community.
  • Feel on the Putt : Some golfers have mentioned that the putting strike might feel slightly harder than they’re used to.
  • Adaptation Period : Like any new equipment, it might take a round or two to fully adapt and see its potential.

The golf ball industry is a competitive field with several brands vying for the title of ‘Best in Class’. Maxfli might not always be the first name that springs to mind when we talk about top-tier golf balls, but their Tour range is proving that they deserve a seat at the table. If you’re considering the Maxfli Tour golf balls, this review will offer a balanced perspective on what you can expect.

Before diving deep into the product specifics, let’s decode the term “Tour”. Contrary to what some believe, “Tour” doesn’t refer to the PGA Tour or any professional golfing circuit. It denotes that the ball boasts a urethane cover and typically more than two inner layers. The result? Enhanced distance, minimized spin off the tee, and precise spin control during the short game. In essence, “Tour” signifies superior flight and spin control.

The ball is manufactured in 3 pieces, the core made from synthetic rubber, surrounded by a mantel covered by Urethane. This ball comes with 318 dimples.

Interestingly enough, the manufacturing of a Three-piece golf ball can require more than 80 steps and take more than 32 quality checks, and takes up to a month to manufacture. Next time you by accident lose a ball remember the hard work that went into that lost ball. I know normally it’s the ball’s fault but still.

Dimples play a pivotal role in determining a golf ball’s performance. A golf ball’s trajectory is majorly influenced by aerodynamics and gravity, and it’s the dimples that help optimize this flight. Maxfli Tour balls are engineered with a specific dimple pattern to enhance lift and improve both flight length and spin. Golf ball design has come a long way from the old elastic band designs to today’s advanced urethane covers.

When we compare the compression with the Titleist Pro V1x, the Maxfli Tour offers a similar feel and performance. It strikes a balance between distance and spin, which is often determined by its compression.

In my time testing the Maxfli Tour golf balls, I’ve been genuinely impressed. They’re competitively priced, especially when you consider their performance is on par with the ProV’s. They’ve quickly become a favorite of mine, and I’ve integrated them into many of my rounds.

During one of my coaching sessions, a client with a GHIN of 5.7 remarked, “These balls are something else! They’re cheaper than the ProV’s and yet, their performance doesn’t falter.” Another one of my senior clients specifically praised the soft feel and the impressive distance these balls provided, a sentiment that’s crucial for players in that age bracket.

Perhaps the feedback that resonated the most was from a long-time player I coach, who after a session, said something like this to me, “I’ve played with a lot of balls over the years, and this is the first one that genuinely rivals the top balls in terms of performance. It covers great distances without losing that soft approach touch on the green.”

If you’re seeking a ball that offers the attributes of higher-priced counterparts but at a more affordable price point, the Maxfli Tour could be your next choice. Whether you’re a senior golfer or a professional aiming for a lower handicap, it seems this ball has something for everyone. As always, consider your playing style and preferences before making the final call.

Maxfli is a well-known household sports brand name proudly owned by Dick’s Sporting Goods bought on February 11, 2008, from TaylorMade Golf. Maxfli is most recognized for its golf balls, but later adding golfing umbrellas, golf bags, gloves, and training aids to its Maxfli name arsenal.

Surprisingly almost all high-quality golf balls come from the same country. Maxfli is manufactured in a high-quality-controlled factory by Foremost in Taiwan. The quality of manufacturing speaks for itself.

Alternatives

The Golfball market is very competitive with a lot of different manufacturers out there. Below are some of the same class of balls from different manufacturers with their pros and cons.

Titleist AVX Golf Balls, White, (One Dozen)

  • Improve distance
  • Great aerodynamics
  • Comes in two colors white and yellow
  • Costly for the amateur

This ball was manufactured for the golfer that lacks the distance on the tee thus to increase your distance this ball could be for you. The ball does low flying and has a low spin from the tee.

The feel of this ball-striking is regarded as soft. In the rough, this ball delivers great distance and stability due to its design.

The spin of this ball was rated as Mid, the dimples on this ball come with a one-of-a-kind 352 tetrahedral catenary dimples. This is also a 3 piece ball with a GRN41 cast thermoset urethane cover. Titleist incorporated a high-speed core with low compression technology.

Bridgestone 2020 Tour B RX Golf Balls 1 Dozen, White

  • Good Accuracy
  • Designed for greater distances

This ball targets the low-mid handicap players used to premium balls If you are looking for performance and the tour feel and have a slower golf swing then this ball might suit you. The Spin on this ball is rated as High.

The Tour B RX is made with 338 dimples with a new dual dimple in each dimple design. It’s also a 3 piece ball with Urethane Cover. The unique core composition gives this ball an increase in speed and because the dimple design improves aerodynamics.

Wilson Staff Triad Golf Ball - 12 Balls, White

  • High MOI design
  • Ultra-thin cast urethane cover
  • Controlled ball flight
  • Greater Spin
  • Could last longer

If you are a better player looking for a controlled flight and spin, this is one of your shortlist balls.

Choose the Wilson Staff Triad ball that been listed on Golf Digest’s Hot list. Wow, that speaks for itself. This is by far one of the balls out there with the highest MOI.

If you need to increase your spin, this is the ball to try. For the lowest compression tour ball available this ball is a 4-piece ball covered with a Urethane Cover with 362 dimples. The spin of this ball was rated as High. Wilson settled on a soft rubber-rich technology for the core to improve the tour feel.

The Maxfli Tour golf ball gets an overall grade of 85%. This is above average and pure outstanding. The balls were found to be near perfect consistent size and weight. This ball takes the game to another level when it comes to flight and accuracy. Although it still depends on the golfer. Don’t expect to now all of a sudden play like a pro because you bought one of the best balls out there.

The Maxfli Tour golf ball belongs in a league of its own for being one of the most consistent balls out there in the market. For the golfer looking to save money during these tough times, the Maxfli Tour is an exceptional offering.

With zero bad balls in the mix, the “True Price” of them means you’re getting exactly what you pay for your dollar.

Maxfli Tour X Golf Ball Review

If you play a premium golf ball there’s a good chance the Maxfli Tour X hasn’t been on your radar. It probably should be, however, as the Tour X offers exceptional performance at a price point that belies all it has to offer golfers.

Impressive distance off the tee

Performs well in windy conditions

Cover durability exceeds expectations

Tremendous value

Less greenside spin than other premium balls

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

Chris Wallace

There was a time when Maxfli golf balls rivaled Titleist golf balls as the best and most popular in the game. The HT Tour and Revolution were among the iconic models developed by Maxfli that were beloved by recreational golfers and played by professionals around the world.

Things changed, however, around the turn of the century after the release of the Titleist Pro V1, as solid core golf balls became the future and wound golf balls died a slow death. The Maxfli brand was ultimately sold to TaylorMade in 2002 and again six years later to Dick’s Sporting Goods, and its lengthy stay at the top of the golf ball mountain was over.

But Maxfli, which is still under the ownership of Dick’s, has continued to develop golf balls, and included in the Maxfli stable are a couple of premium balls, including the Maxfli Tour X, which I recently had the chance to test. While the Tour X, which ranks as one of the best Maxfli golf balls , if not the best, will never enjoy the same visibility or commercial success of today’s most popular Tour balls, there has been a quiet yet consistent buzz about just how good this ball is, which left me anxious to give it a try. And to say I was impressed would be a massive understatement.

Maxfli Tour X Golf Ball

The Maxfli Tour X golf ball delivered impressive distance off the tee.

The Maxfli Tour X is a four-piece golf ball that features a soft urethane cover, and in my testing I compared it to similar golf balls, including the TP5x and Pro V1x , which are the two balls I play most frequently, as well as Maxfli's other premium ball, the Tour . In addition to using the Maxfli Tour X on the golf course, I also spent significant time testing it from 50 yards and in at my club’s short game area, as I believe golf ball decisions should be made first and foremost based on performance on and around the greens.

Where the Tour X shined brightest was in the long game. It was exceptional off the tee and every bit as long as the balls I was testing it against. The ball flight the Tour X provided on driver shots was on the higher side but also stable in the wind, and shots hit both downwind and into the wind yielded significant rollout. The Tour X also was explosive on full approach shots. If anything, it might have been a half club longer than the balls I play most often but at the same time I found no issues with stopping power.

Maxfli Tour X Golf Ball

With a wedge around the greens, the Maxfli Tour X offered slightly less spin than some of its competitors.

From 50 yards and in, the Tour X still performed well and probably exceeded my expectations in all honesty. But I did experience slightly more rollout on chip shots, pitch shots, and partial wedge shots than I did with the TP5x or Pro V1x. That said, I came away believing that I could make the adjustments necessary to offset what appeared to be less greenside spin and still play the Tour X on a full-time basis.

I’d also add that the feel on those shots was slightly firmer off the clubface than the balls I was testing against, something that was not at all discernable on full shots. The Tour X, however, did feel very good off the putter, and I especially enjoyed the double-lined alignment aid on the ball. Additionally, the Tour X was a standout in terms of the durability of its cover, which held up very well during the course of play and after significant short game testing, including a number of bunker shots.

Maxfli Tour X Golf Ball

The feel off the putter with the Maxfli Tour X was soft but responsive.

As you’ve probably ascertained to this point, I liked the Tour X a lot and could easily game this golf ball on a regular basis. So, let’s get to the real story here, and that’s price. At a retail price of $34.99, and it should be noted that Dick’s often offers even better deals, the Tour X checks in significantly below the best premium golf balls on the market. In my opinion, the performance it provides at that price point makes it not only one of the best golf ball values but one of the best values in golf regardless of category.

Certainly golfers will have to decide for themselves if what I found to be a slight drop off in greenside spin is enough to eliminate this ball from consideration, even at its significantly lower price. But long-game performance, feel, and durability are standout features that combine to make the Maxfli Tour X worth a try.

  • TG Rating 4.5 out of 5

What we say...

The maxfli tour x golf balls provide low spin off the tee and high spin on approach shots..

Maxfli have three balls in their premium range of golf balls, the Tour X, Tour and Tour S. While Maxfli previously have not been a name associated with the best golf balls , their Tour X is definitely a challenger to the Titleist Pro V1x and TaylorMade TP5x .

There is more competition than ever when it comes to the best premium golf balls, with more brands challenging the big guns and producing golf balls which perform well but do not come at as much of a cost.

Maxfli Tour X are among the best golf balls.

In order to compete with the best premium golf balls, Maxfli have packed the Tour X with impressive technology; producing a rival to Titleist and TaylorMade. What technology in the Maxfli Tour X makes their balls a competitor to the best golf balls?

Center of Gravity Balanced

This is Maxfli’s patented balancing process, when combined with the new alignment aid improves consistency and accuracy.

Soft Cast Urethane

The soft cast urethane cover is what gives the Maxfli Tour its soft feel and additional greenside spin.

Tetrahedron Dimple Pattern

In order to optimize aerodynamics, the Tour golf balls sport a tetrahedron dimple pattern which improves ball flight by reducing drag allowing the ball to travel further.

This is Maxfli’s new core which has been designed to increase ball speeds giving explosive distance off the tee.

Dual Ionomer Mantles

The dual ionomer mantles are the two outer mantles which deliver low driver spin and high iron spin.

Maxfli Tour ball range comparison

Which Maxfli Tour golf ball should I play?

Maxfli offers three different balls in their Tour range, the Tour S, Tour and Tour X. All Tour range golf balls by Maxfli are excellent premium options depending on what you want from your ball, where you play, and your desired flight.

The Tour X is the only 4-piece urethane cover construction golf ball in Maxfli’s tour range. It is the hardest of the three but still a soft feeling golf ball. The Tour X has been designed to produce the most spin on approach shots by delivering a higher ball flight than the Tour S and Tour ball.

The Maxfli Tour golf ball sports a 3-piece urethane cover construction which still delivers low spin off the tee and high spin around the greens. The Tour ball is softer than the Tour X and flies slightly lower and produces less spin with the irons.

Last of Maxfli’s three Tour options is the Tour S which is also a 3-piece urethane cover construction golf ball which provides the softest feel of all the Maxfli Tour range golf balls. The Tour has a lower ball flight and spin on approach shots is slightly lower – better for links golf and windy conditions.

Maxfli Tour X availability

The Tour golf balls are available in white and yellow. The balls are traditionally numbered from 1 to 4.

The balls are available to purchase from numerous retailers in the US at an RRP of $39.99; a strong competitor to the best premium golf balls you will not regret trying. The Maxfli Tour X golf balls aren’t as readily available in the UK but they can be purchased.

‘It was a no-brainer’: Inside a Tour pro’s surprising gear deal

Griffin shows off the Maxfli Tour X golf ball he'll be playing at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Jonathan Wall/GOLF

McKINNEY, Texas — Several weeks ago, Ben Griffin did something that raised some eyebrows. Before a PGA Tour round commences, players arrive on the first tee and show their playing partners the golf ball they plan to use — markings and all. It’s an easy way to ensure the pellets don’t get mixed up on the course.

Most pros flash the ball and go about their business, but on this particular day at the Houston Open, Griffin flashed his ball and waited for a response. It’s the same one he’s received in subsequent rounds since he chose to employ Maxfli’s Tour X in competition.

“The reaction is usually the same,” Griffin told GOLF.com. “Their face lights up and they look at me and say, “Are you serious?” It’s a brand they likely haven’t seen in 15 or 20 years, so that’s been cool. It’s definitely sparked some curiosity out here.”

On a Tour where equipment blue bloods dominate the headlines, Griffin is embracing a more contrarian route by agreeing to play Maxfli’s flagship Tour ball for the remainder of the PGA Tour season following extensive testing. As part of the agreement, Griffin will join Lexi Thompson as the latest pro to endorse Maxfli golf balls.

“Lexi drew my interest to the ball initially,” Griffin said. “I saw she was playing it and my caddie, [Alex Ritthamel], who used to caddie for Lexi’s brother Curtis, thought I should at least test out the Maxfli to see how it performed. A few months passed and I finally got my hands on some. I did some preliminary testing but wasn’t planning on doing much with the ball.”

That was until he saw the increase in ball speed and distance.

“It was roughly 8 yards additional during preliminary testing,” Griffin said. “Around the green, I didn’t see a ton of differences across balls. That’s when the distance side really started to intrigue me. There are certain weeks out here when distance has kind of turned into a priority.”

According to Griffin, he saw the benefits extra distance can provide during a practice round this week at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson when he easily cleared a bunker sitting 300 yards away by 10-plus yards.

ben griffin maxfli tour x golf ball

“That was a pleasant surprise,” he said. “You see things like that and wonder why you didn’t switch sooner. Because of the positive results, it was a no-brainer for me. I definitely think it’s going to help me.”

While Griffin’s ball deal with Maxfli is being announced this week, he confirmed on-course testing has been going on for a few months and included competitive rounds in Houston and the Dominican Republic where he was able to see firsthand how well Tour X performed in the wind.

“Houston was a good test,” said Griffin. “Then I put it in play on probably the windiest weeks of the year, in the Dominican, and it performed exceptionally well in the conditions. I finished T14 that week. The ball wasn’t holding me back by any means. It was one of those situations where I felt like I could’ve been in contention if I had made more putts. Once I realized the ball was performing well on Tour, I figured I better look at it a bit more. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been in touch with Maxfli to see some potential opportunities.”

Lexi Thompson of the United States walks onto the first green during the final round of the LPGA Drive On Championship at Bradenton Country Club

‘We were all in shock’: Inside Lexi Thompson’s new endorsement deal

The conversations eventually led to a deal that subsequently expanded Maxfli’s Tour footprint. Before Thompson and Griffin put the Tour ball in play, Maxfli was merely known as a Dick’s Sporting Goods brand. It’s a far cry from the years when Maxfli was a major player on Tour and boasted a roster that once included the likes of Jack Nicklaus , Greg Norman and Fred Couples .

With pros beginning to embrace Maxfli again, Griffin said it’s time for weekend golfers to reassess the brand’s position as a big box offering.

“I’ve done enough testing to where I feel very confident in the ball’s performance on Tour,” he said. “If you look at the price point compared to other balls in a store, it’s significantly less. But in my opinion, it has the feel of an elite ball — and the distance to prove it. There’s the stability in the wind, too. Hopefully playing in the wind later this summer in Scotland, along with the British Open, I need to make sure I’m using a ball that’s good in those conditions.”

It’s easy to look at Griffin’s latest deal and wonder if endorsement dollars drove his decision to sign with Maxfli. What ultimately swayed him to change balls midseason was the opportunity to try something different that wasn’t available on Tour and get Maxfli back on the Tour map.

“It’s one of the only products you’re using on every single shot, and I know a lot of guys are hesitant to change for that reason,” he said. “I’ve been excited this year to be a free agent and test some more products out, at least the last month or so. The [Maxfli] ball is the one that piqued my interest the most. Maybe part of the reason is because it doesn’t have a presence [on Tour]. It’s an opportunity to showcase how good it is. I’ve done enough testing with it to feel like I’m confident with it out here.

“It has a lot of potential. This could be the start where we see a few more guys test it. Maybe not this year, but in the years to come. It’s fun to try something out here that no one else is. Some might say it’s a risk. But to me, it’s very calculated. I’ve seen the numbers to prove it.”

Griffin is hoping his calculated switch pays off — starting this week in Texas.
