2022 DP World Tour (European Tour) schedule: Tournaments, dates, purses and venues

my tour dp world tour

The 2022 DP World Tour (European Tour) schedule has been announced, with a significant overhaul to the 48-event docket that golf fans have been accustomed to seeing in recent years.

The most significant changes to the schedule are related to the strategic alliance between DP World Tour and the European Tour that was announced in November 2021, changing the name of the tour and raising the minimum value of purses to $2 million.

European Tour co-sanctioned, purse-boosted events

The two tours are co-sanctioning three events on their schedules, including the European Tour's Scottish Open, which has a new sponsor in Genesis, as well the Barbasol Championship and Barracuda Championship on the DP World Tour (European Tour). The fields in all three events will feature a split of player availability between DP World Tour (European Tour) and European Tour pros, including spots for 50 European Tour players in the Barbasol and Barracuda Championships, which will be played opposite the Scottish Open and Irish Open.

The Genesis Scottish Open will remain part of the European Tour's Rolex Series. The Irish Open, which will not be co-sanctioned in 2022, will have a purse boosted by the DP World Tour (European Tour) to $6 million -- nearly double the amount offered this year.

There are a variety of new events on the schedule this year, including the Ras al Khaimah Championship in the UAE, the Pecanwood Classic and Steyn City Championship in South Africa, the Soudal Open in Belgium, two new events in Asia (including one in Japan) and the return of the Cyprus Open.

World Golf Championships halved

Since 2009, there have been four World Golf Championships events on the schedule. However, there are just two on the 2022 schedule: the WGC-HSBC Champions in China from Oct. 28-31 and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Texas from March 23-27.

With the Memphis-based event becoming a playoff event, the other change is the WGC-Mexico Championship dropping out of the series. A Mexico Championship is listed on the schedule as a full-field event.

* Move is a significant boost to a global pathway for competitive golf

*PGA TOUR to provide operational support and additional investment to the DP World Tour

* DP World Tour prize fund levels set to grow annually

The DP World Tour and the PGA TOUR have moved to significantly strengthen not only their existing alliance but also help develop players to compete at the pinnacle of men’s professional golf, by unveiling a ground-breaking new 13-year operational joint venture partnership.

The partnership, through to 2035, builds on the success of the existing Strategic Alliance between the two Tours that was unveiled in November 2020 and which has already seen tangible benefits for members of both Tours, not least the co-sanctioning of the Genesis Scottish Open on the DP World Tour, alongside access for both memberships into the Barbasol Championship and the Barracuda Championship on the PGA TOUR.

Collaboration has already borne fruit for the DP World Tour with the introduction of new tournament title sponsors such as Genesis and Horizon and new Tour partners such as Fortinet and Velocity Global.

In addition, working together to drive prize funds and commercial revenue will not only benefit the entire range of both memberships immediately, but also develop immense strategic opportunities for all members of both Tours for the future.

As part of the new joint venture, the PGA TOUR will increase its existing stake in European Tour Productions from 15 percent to 40 percent, while utilising the DP World Tour’s recognised international credentials and global footprint to continue to coordinate a worldwide schedule.

The DP World Tour will guarantee growth in annual prize funds to its membership for the next five years, all above the record 2022 levels unveiled as part of the DP World Tour title partnership arrangement announced last November.

The new joint venture will provide additional competitive opportunities for professional golfers of both Tours and also establish a clearly defined pathway for top players around the world. Players from the Sunshine Tour and ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia, with whom the DP World Tour already has existing Strategic Alliances, now enjoy a formal pathway to the DP World Tour. With today’s announcement, DP World Tour members will now have direct and formal access to the very pinnacle of the men’s professional game on the PGA TOUR.

To achieve that, from 2023, the leading ten players on the end of season DP World Tour Rankings [in addition to those already exempt] will earn PGA TOUR cards for the following season.

Furthermore, the DP World Tour will work closely on the development and implementation of the new international events announced by PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan last week at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, and DP World members will gain access to those events.

Keith Pelley, Chief Executive Officer of the DP World Tour said: “Building on the success of the existing Strategic Alliance between ourselves and the PGA TOUR, this move will significantly enhance the meritocracy that has successfully served the professional game on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 50 years.

“It is a natural extension and progression of what we have been doing over the past few years and I passionately believe that this move is the right thing for our players, our Tour, our fans, and the game of golf in general.

“Our two tours have undoubtedly drawn closer over the past few years and today’s announcement strengthens both Tours for the betterment of both memberships.”

Jay Monahan, Commissioner of the PGA TOUR, said, “It was clear from the outset that our Strategic Partnership with the European Tour Group was a powerful agreement for both sides, and we are thrilled with today’s announcement of this expanded partnership.

“We will continue to collaborate on a global schedule and key commercial areas as we draw our organizations and memberships even closer together while innovating to provide the most entertaining and compelling golf possible to fans around the world. On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I want to credit and commend Keith Pelley and his team at the European Tour Group for their incredible commitment to this effort.”

Collin morikawa closes with 66, makes history on european tour at dp world tour championship, share this article.

my tour dp world tour

Collin Morikawa made history Sunday, becoming the first American to win both the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai title after his victory in the European Tour’s season-ending tournament in Dubai.

Morikawa started the final day three shots back of Rory McIlroy and then started Sunday’s round with six straight pars. Morikawa got his first birdie on the day on No. 7.

Then on the back nine, he caught fire, making birdies on five of his last seven holes, including 17 and 18, to close with a 66 to claim a three-shot win over Matthew Fitzpatrick and Alexander Bjork.

“It’s special, it’s an honor, really, to be the first American to do that on the European Tour, to put my name against many, many great Hall of Famers, it’s special,” he said.

Morikawa’s irons were sharp once again. On the 15th hole, he stuffed his approach to eight feet. On the 16th, out of a fairway bunker, he landed his ball 20 feet away to save par. He stuck one within 10 feet on the 17th.

“Two years ago, it wasn’t my thought. It was, ‘yeah, let’s go play around the world’ but we didn’t know what the cards were going to be dealt,” he said. “To have this chance and finally close it out, and not just closing it out with a top 10 or something, but to actually win the DP World Tour Championship, which concluded with the Race to Dubai, not a better way to finish.”

Billy Horschel finished second in the Race, while Jon Rahm, who skipped the season-finale, was third.

Before the tournament started, Morikawa was granted Honorary Life Membership on the tour, just the fifth American golfer—joining Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Patrick Reed—to receive that recognition.

McIlroy, meanwhile, shot a 2-over 74 and in an odd scene after the tournament, could be seen in the clubhouse looking at his phone with his shirt apparently ripped open.

This event puts a close on the European Tour’s season, and there will be no break before the start of the new season, as the Joburg Open in South Africa starts on Thursday. And with the new season comes a new name for the tour. Heading into its 50 th year of existence, it will be known as the DP World Tour .

As a result of the title sponsorship, total prize money will exceed the $200 million mark for the first time. Also for the first time, the tour will feature three tournaments co-sanctioned with the PGA Tour – the Genesis Scottish Open, as well as the Barbasol Championship and the Barracuda Championship taking place in the United States – as a result of the “Strategic Alliance” between male professional golf’s two leading Tours.

PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Saudi Public Investment Fund Have Yet to Meet Together

According to a report, the new CEO of the DP World Tour wants an agreement to move quickly, and he also believes European LIV golfers should be able to play in the Ryder Cup.

  • Author: Bob Harig

Nearly a year after the shocking “framework agreement’’ was announced between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, all of the parties have yet to formally meet together.

That is according to Guy Kinnings, the new CEO of the DP World Tour, who officially took over from Keith Pelley this month.

Kinnings, in a media session with a small group UK and Irish golf writers in London, discussed his hopes for an agreement and also made clear that the European Ryder Cup rules do not need to be changed for players such as Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton to be part of the team next year at Bethpage Black.

“From my perspective, all I want to do is make sure we as quickly as possible get the right people around a table to talk about what can a future look like,’’ Kinnnings said in a report from the Scotsman newspaper . “I don’t expect them to go in knowing all the answers. There’s lots of things have to get worked at. What does the product look like, probably from 2026 and beyond? What’s the pathway? What does it mean for things?

“But, until you get into the room with the right people with the right intent to try and find a solution, you are never going to work out a deal and, at the end of the day, this is what is needed right now as quickly as we can. We’ve all seen—even with a great Masters—that TV figures are down. If we listen to the fans, there’s something that needs to get fixed and I see it as a huge opportunity because, if you can unite and go global, that’s exactly what we are all about.’’

The framework agreement was supposed to bring the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and PIF—which backs LIV Golf—together by the end of 2023. That deadline was missed, and since then the PGA Tour has received private equity from a U.S. based consortium of investors called Strategic Sports Group that can be as much as $3 billion.

A plan has been unveiled for PGA Tour players to receive equity in the new PGA Tour Enterprises, a for-profit company. Kinnings said that the PIF’s governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, wants to be part of the group of investors.

“I was talking to the guys from the Strategic Sports Group  and I said ‘listen, we’ve got to get together, we’ve got to pull it all together, we’ve got to find the product that works—it probably won’t be until 2026 but beyond there—and is good for the game, something that fans like and works for everyone.’ But, at the end of the day, it has got to be something that is appealing to them. It’s got to work for all parties and everyone is going to have to do things they don’t necessarily want to, a compromise. But that’s what you do if you strike a deal, it won’t happen until we get everyone in a room together.”

Kinnings also said that players, such as Rahm, who remain a DP World Tour member but pay fines and deal with suspensions for missing conflicting events can still be eligible for the Ryder Cup.

European LIV Players like Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton remain eligible for Ryder Cup, says DP World Tour CEO

LIV Golf's Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will be eligible for Ryder Cup if they pay fines and serve bans and play at least four DP World Tour events a season; DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings does not expect golf to be unified once again until 2026 as Framework Agreement talks continue

Jon Rahm and Tyrell Hatton remain eligible for the Ryder Cup despite their moves to LIV Golf and will not be exploiting a "loophole" if they represent Europe in the USA next year, says DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings.

Rahm and Hatton are still members of the DP World Tour and must play four events a season, as well as pay fines and serve bans following their switch to the Saudi-backed circuit without "conflicting event" releases, to be available for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

It is understood that suspensions are automatically applied to the next DP World Tour event for which the player is eligible, even if they had no intention of playing that event in the first place.

"We're not going to change anything on that basis. Rules are rules and they apply for every member. We're not in a position to be changing rules that we've had to go to court to defend."

In April 2023, an arbitration panel ruled the DP World Tour had the right to sanction players for "serious breaches" of its code of behaviour, a case sparked by 12 players appealing against fines of $100,000 and bans from the Scottish Open for playing LIV's inaugural event in 2022.

Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood resigned their memberships, while Henrik Stenson was sacked as Ryder Cup captain, to be replaced by Luke Donald.

Asked if such players were aware of how the tournament suspensions worked, Kinnings added: "I have no idea what they thought. To be perfectly honest, this isn't new news because, as you know, I had an extremely thorough Ryder Cup captain and a brilliant assistant.

Garcia

"For the last Ryder Cup they were analysing every player who was eligible and that was players on whatever Tour they were on. Had certain players played well enough, then they could have been in the Ryder Cup team. As it is, they didn't."

Kinnings: I don't expect golf unity until 2026

Kinnings also said he does not expect golf to become unified until 2026 as talks continue between the DP World Tour, PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) - the funders of LIV Golf - about a framework agreement.

He added: "While I'm all for looking forward rather than looking back, we all know that after the framework agreement was announced, there wasn't a lot of progress or obvious progress.

"Has there been a big negotiation where all the parties have sat around and talked about the future product? I don't think that meeting's happened yet.

my tour dp world tour

"I can't explain in detail or fix what's gone before, now looking forward we've just got to make sure that happens as soon as possible.

"All I know now, because I have directly been involved in it, is there's a lot of work going on in terms of looking at a working plan, so there is significantly more momentum than there was. There is an intent to get the right people in the room.

"I don't see any Tour's schedules changing in '25. If you could get a resolution now, maybe you could do some stuff towards the end of '25, but the reality is the '26 season needs to be the one where there are significant changes.

"The truth is everyone is having to do things they probably never expected to do and they've got to be flexible, they've got to be willing to compromise so there may be ways we can do things."

Kinnings welcomed Rory McIlroy's likely return to the PGA Tour's policy board and believes there is merit in the Northern Irishman's vision for a 'World Tour'.

"I can see a lot of sense in what Rory said," he added. "The fans want to see the best players, playing together as often as they can as well as the majors. That's a model I can see being very appealing but it's only part of the picture.

"If we're going to find a solution we need to be thinking how you integrate team golf in some way and that's to satisfy what's been done with LIV, but also the recognition that we all love team golf and when it happens every two years in the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup it's brilliant.

"There's lots of ways of doing it. Would that be feeding in as two separate tours or a single tour? I don't know. Until we're in the negotiating room and we know what people want to get from it, you will not be able to tell.

"But finding a pathway to bring the players back, make it global, make it united, has got to be the mantra we all want to get."

New DP World Tour boss provides worrying merger update as LIV Golf saga goes on

N ewly appointed DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings stressed that "significant changes" to the top of professional golf would not be in place until after 2025.

The sport has found itself split following the launch of LIV Golf in summer 2022, prompting both the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour to rally against players who chose to side with the Saudi-backed league. In an unexpected twist last summer, however, an initial agreement was laid out by the PGA Tour along with the PIF of Saudi Arabia.

The inclusion of the DP World Tour further indicated a potential accord which could mend professional golf's division, but ten months on, no such final agreement has been reached.

Assuming Keith Pelley's mantle at the top of European golf, Kinnings provided insight into what lies ahead for the sport, emphasizing the gradual nature of upcoming transformations. "We know [a deal] has to be done ASAP," he explained. "I don't see too much changing in 2025. 2026 is when we will see significant changes.

"For us to achieve this, we need 2025 to lay the groundwork. I'm not setting any deadlines. But to devise a new product for 2026, you really need to have it complete by the end of this year. Everyone needs to demonstrate flexibility and willingness to compromise. Once we've identified the appropriate solution, we need to act swiftly.

As it currently stands, the PGA Tour has taken a hardline stance against players who have joined forces with Greg Norman's LIV Golf, resulting in bans for big names like Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Jon Rahm. The DP World Tour has followed suit but with slightly less severity.

Follow the Mirror US on Google News to stay up to date with all the latest news, sport and entertainment stories.

The European Tour has been granted authority to impose fines and suspensions on its members who participate in LIV Golf events that clash with DP World Tour tournaments. This has led several golfers, including Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia, and Lee Westwood, to resign their memberships, consequently forfeiting their Ryder Cup eligibility.

This move has sparked concerns that Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton might miss out on representing Europe in the USA next September, despite playing key roles in Team Europe's victory in Rome last fall.

However, CEO Kinnings has offered some reassurance, clarifying the current eligibility criteria for 2023. "If we look at the eligibility criteria for 2023, I think there has been a slight misconception," he stated. "The reality is that, under the current system, if a player is European and is a member of the DP World Tour and abides by the rules in place, he is eligible."

Cameron Smith plays a shot on day one of LIV Adelaide

Golf Australia signs deal with LIV in first partnership with Saudi-backed tour

  • Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC and LIV to help fund junior program
  • PGA of Australia still aligned with DP World Tour

LIV Golf has struck a deal to help fund Golf Australia’s junior program, in the first formal relationship between the steward of the game in Australia and the Saudi Arabia-backed entity.

The arrangement – which involves LIV and its Ripper GC franchise of Australian players led by Cameron Smith – has been in negotiations for weeks.

A formal announcement is expected in the coming days to coincide with the LIV tournament in Adelaide, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald .

The deal sees LIV and Ripper GC make it cheaper for some children to access My Golf, the junior program run by GA.

GA also has staff working on a My Golf activation in Adelaide this week alongside the LIV tournament promotions.

In 2022-23, 33,000 children participated in My Golf, according to GA’s annual report, a figure that grew 22% on the previous year.

The cost of My Golf varies depending on the location and type of program. A single after school session can cost less than $50, but a regular hit over a school term is priced in the hundreds of dollars.

GA’s decision to accept the subsidies from LIV is the first major step by Australia’s golf establishment towards the upstart tour.

The PGA of Australia (PGAA), the body representing tournament and club professionals and organiser of the Australasian Tour, is still aligned with LIV rival the DP World Tour.

As manager of the game in Australia GA’s remit is on building participation and the body receives funding from the federal government.

However, GA and the PGAA have largely combined operations, adding a layer of complexity to the deal.

GA’s chief executive, James Sutherland, said last month Australia looked at LIV differently from other parts of the world.

after newsletter promotion

“There’s clearly an ‘anti’ or a conservative sentiment about the Saudis in the US, and the further east you go on a world map from America, the more moderate the views are,” he said.

LIV commissioner Greg Norman said on Wednesday he was “very proud” of investments his organisation was making into golf generally.

“If it wasn’t for LIV, these additional investment dollars going into the sport would never have happened,” he said.

In excess of 80,000 people are expected to attend the LIV Adelaide tournament this weekend.

Norman has described the Adelaide event as the “benchmark” for LIV worldwide. LIV golf is funded by Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund.
