Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a Rs 400-crore permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur, power projects worth Rs 28,978 crore and National Highway projects built at a cost Rs 2,045 crore during his one-day visit to Odisha on February 3, official sources said.

The PM is also scheduled to inaugurate the redeveloped Sambalpur station and the Talcher-Sambalpur doubling project (168.2 km) at a cost of Rs 2,193 crore.

He may also inaugurate the newly-constructed Sonepur station and flag-off a train on the Bolangir-Sonepur section (47 km) of the Khurda Road-Bolangir new line (301 km) project. Once inaugurated, Sonepur will get rail connectivity, an official said.

In a press release on Thursday, the NHAI said the prime minister on Saturday will dedicate three transformative highway projects built at a cost of Rs 2,045 crore.

The projects are four-laning of Biramitrapur to Brahmani bypass end section of NH-143 covering 24 km and built at a cost of Rs 679 crore; four-laning of Brahmani bypass end to Rajamunda Section of NH-143 spanning 47 km with an investment of Rs 538 crore in Sundargarh district and four-laning of Rimuli to Koida Section of NH-520, stretching 42 km, developed at a cost of Rs 828 crore, in Keonjhar district.

The NHAI release also informed that the highway sections of NH-143 from Biramitrapur to Brahmani bypass and Brahmani bypass end to Rajamunda include a four-lane flyover at Vedvyas and the long-awaited 473-metre-long six-lane bridge over River Brahmani.

The project provides enhanced connectivity to Rourkela, the region’s industrial hub, and Jharkhand. It will reduce travel time, easing the movement of goods and people between the two states. Besides, it will also facilitate smoother traffic flow to the district headquarters and Jharsuguda Airport through the Biju Expressway (SH-10), it added.

Earlier during the day, NTPC’s regional executive director (Eastern Region I & II) Sudip Nag informed that the PM will also inaugurate the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2800 MW) and the NSPCL Rourkela PP Expansion Project (1250 MW) and lay the foundation stone of NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-lII (2660 MW), with a total investment of Rs 28,978 crore.

Located in Sundergarh district, the Darlipali STPP is a pit-head power station with supercritical (highly efficient) technology and will supply low-cost power to its beneficiary states such as Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Sikkim.

The 250 MW project of NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd was established in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to provide reliable power for the steel plant, which is vital for economic growth, he said. He said the corporation, which is developing the Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III, within the old TTPS plant premises in Angul district, was taken over by it from Odisha State Electricity Board in 1995.

After completing more than 50 years of service, the old TTPS plant was decommissioned. The upcoming plant will have highly efficient ultra-supercritical technology-based units and approximately three times the capacity of the old TTPS plant. While 50 per cent capacity of this project is dedicated to Odisha, other beneficiary states such as Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Assam will also get low-cost power from this pit-head station.

This project is under construction with all modern environmental features like efficient electrostatic precipitator, flue gas desulphurization, bio-mass cofiring, and covered storage space for coal, and help in lesser specific coal consumption and C02 emissions, the official said.

narendra modi odisha visit

PM Modi to dedicate projects worth ₹ 19600 Cr in Odisha on March 5

Prime minister narendra modi’s visit to odisha comes amid swirling rumours of a possible electoral alliance between the bharatiya janata party and the biju janata dal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over ₹ 19,600 crore at Chandikhole in Odisha on March 5, amid swirling rumours of a possible electoral alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Official familiar with the matter said PM Modi will arrive in Bhubaneswar in a special plane of Indian Air Force from Telangana in the afternoon and then proceed to Chandikhol in Jajpur district in a helicopter and lay foundation stones and inaugurate various projects related to oil and gas, railways, road, transport and highways and atomic energy sectors.

His Odisha visit coincides with the birth anniversary of former chief minister Biju Patnaik. It also comes amid the intensified demand of the BJD to award Bharat Ratna to Biju Patnaik. Many believe that a Bharat Ratna to Biju Patnaik would bring Modi and Naveen closer to paving the way for a possible electoral tie-up before the polls.

After arriving in Odisha, the PM will inaugurate Indian Oil Corporation’s mono ethylene glycol project at Paradip Refinery which will further help in reducing India’s import dependency. Mono ethyle glycol is used in manufacture of polyester resins, films, fibers, antifreezes, coolants, aircraft anti-icer and deicers and solvents.

He will also inaugurate 344-km-long product pipeline traversing from Paradip in Odisha to Haldia in West Bengal. Modi will also inaugurate 0.6 million metric tonnes per annum LPG Import facility at Paradip, aimed at augmenting the import infrastructure on India’s east coast.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation four laning of Singhara to Binjabahal Section of NH-49; four laning of Binjabahal to Tileibani Section of NH-49; four laning of Balasore-Jharpokharia Section of NH-18 and four laning of Tangi-Bhubaneswar Section of NH-16.

He will also lay the foundation stone for eight laning of Chandikhole-Paradip Section and dedicate 162-km Bansapani-Daitari-Tomka-Jakhapura rail line in not just enhancing the existing traffic facility’s capacity but also facilitating efficient transportation of iron and manganese ore from Keonjhar District to the nearest ports and steel plants.

The projects to be inaugurated in railway sector also include CONCOR Container Depot at Kalinga Nagar, which would boost domestic and international trade. Modi will also lay foundation stone of Electric Loco Periodical Overhauling Workshop at Narla, the Wagon Periodical Overhauling Workshop at Kantabanji and upgradation and augmentation of maintenance facilities at Baghuapal.

Other railway projects, including flagging off the first passenger train on Paradip-Haridaspur section would also be taken up.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate 5 MLD capacity seawater desalination plant at Odisha Sands Complex of IREL(I) Ltd. This project has been built as a part of field applications of indigenous desalination technologies developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

After the official functions, PM Modi would address a public meeting at Chandikhol. This will be Modi’s second tour to Odisha in a month. During his visit to Sambalpur on February 3, he had inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth more than ₹ 68,000 crore.

Odisha: BJP Leaders, Workers Look to PM Modi’s March 5 Visit for Clarity on Party’s 2024 Mission

narendra modi odisha visit

Bhubaneswar : All eyes are Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Odisha visit in the first week of March when he will address a public rally at Chandikhol in Jajpur district, apart from participating in some government programmes.

BJP's co-in-charge for Odisha, Lata Usendi on Thursday informed that the PM will visit the state on March 5.

The BJP state leaders and workers believe that the PM would clear the air about the party’s Odisha mission with regard to the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

As per sources, the PM is likely to address a public meeting in Jajpur's Chandikhol and lay the foundation stone of several developmental projects. However, the programme schedule is yet to be finalised.

Earlier on February 3, the Prime Minister visited Odisha. He had then inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of multiple infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 68,000 crore during a public programme in Sambalpur.

Though the PM had then addressed a public meeting at Sambalpur, he has not spelt out a single word against the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the key rival of the BJP in the state.

The BJD has been in power in Odisha since 2000. The mysterious silence of the PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah on Odisha affairs has given rise to the speculation in political circles about a possible alliance with the BJD.

Though the BJD and BJP fight bitter political wars during the elections, they surprisingly stand by each other after the polls. The BJD has been extending crucial support to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) both inside and outside the Parliament at the time of necessity.

Though Odisha witnessed a mega mining scam and irregularities by chit fund firms, the BJP has not been very vocal on these issues. The BJP’s soft stand on Odisha scams, as political analysts maintain, is a political strategy to keep the BJD on tenterhooks.

During his last visit, the PM had inaugurated the permanent IIM Sambalpur campus in the presence of Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik; Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Ashwini Vaishnaw and other BJP leaders.

He also flagged off Puri-Sonepur-Puri Weekly Express, improving connectivity for the rail passengers in the region.

Narendra Modi in Odisha: PM visits Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar, meets families of freedom fighters

The Odisha Assembly elections are two years away, but the BJP has began its preparations to bloom the lotus in the state in right earnest.

Narendra Modi in Odisha: PM visits Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar, meets families of freedom fighters

Replete with photo-ops and crowd wooing measures, the BJP big shots descended in Odisha on Saturday, fixing the spotlight on the eastern coast of the country.

The latest in series of such attempts to reach out to the people in Odisha was the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the famous 11th century Lingaraj Temple in Odisha. Adhering to the previously planned schedule, the prime minister reached the temple sharp at 9 am to offer his prayers and participate in a special Puja Arati . He offered flowers, bel leaves, milk, coconut water and water to the deity.

The Prime Minister spent around 25 minutes in the temple premises.

Modi also visited the temple of Goddess Bhubaneswari and Parbati, said Manoranjan Panigrahy, CEO of the Lingaraj Temple Administration.

“The Prime Minister was so enthusiastic to know about Lingaraj temple. He prayed for the welfare of the nation and ‘Swachh Bharat’,” said chief priest of the temple.

The ‘seveyats’ or temple priests did not miss a chance to take selfies with the Prime Minister.

The 54-metre high temple is spread over a 25,000 sq.ft area and has over 150 small and big subsidiary temples in its premises.

According to the ground reports by CNN-News 18  Modi’s visit to the temple pleasantly surprised scores of devotees, as they fished out their mobile phones to click a picture of Modi. The prime minister also waved and smiled at his supporters.

According to  The Times of India , special arrangements had been made at the temple for Modi’s visit but special instructions were given not to close the temple to general public at any time because of the VVIP’s visit.

“Of course security has been tightened in and around the temple premises but we have not been instructed to stop or prevent any devotee from entering the temple during the PM’s visit. Modi will offer flowers, bel leaves, milk, coconut water and water to Lord Lingaraj on the occasion,” the news article quoted temple administration as saying.

Before he headed to the temple, the prime minister also met the families of freeodom fighters who were part of the Paika rebellion against the British East India Company in 1817, according to News18 .  He felicitated them at the Raj Bhawan.

Modi arrived here on Saturday to attend the two-day BJP National Executive meeting that began later in the day. He also held a roadshow ahead of the meet.

The prime minister will address the concluding session on Sunday.

Later in the day, Modi will head to Surat and hold a road show in the BJP bastion and his native state, Gujarat. The prime minister will also interact with people during his two-day visit to his home state.

PM Narendra Modi To Visit Odisha In February First Week, State BJP Chief Confirms

' data-src=

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Odisha on February 3 to inaugurate the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur ((IIM-S) at Basantpur on the outskirts the city, state BJP president Manmohan Samal informed on Thursday.

The PMO, however, is yet to confirm the date and details of this official tour.

PM Modi was supposed to visit the IIM-S campus in December last year, but it was deferred due to his prior engagements. He had laid the foundation day of the campus, developed over an area of 200 acres at Rs 401 crore, through virtual mode on January 2, 2021.

The party sources said that the PM may also address a rally in Sambalpur and sound the poll bugle during his visit. This assumes significance amid speculation that Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan might contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Sambalpur. Western Odisha is considered a BJP bastion and PM’s visit to the region is likely to have a positive impact on neighbouring Parliamentary constituencies of Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi and Sundargarh, which are being represented by its MPs.

Keeping an eye on the upcoming polls, PM Modi is likely to visit all the major states at least once before February 5. The tour began with visit to southern states – Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and Kerala – and Rajasthan in first week of January. He then visited Gujarat, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

According to reports, Modi will make two visits to large states while he would visit a few of the smaller states once.

Poll race heats up: Modi, Shah, Nadda to visit Odisha soon

PM Narendra Modi (File -Photo | PTI)

BHUBANESWAR: As the BJP gets set for the 2024 poll race, and Odisha is seen as a prime turf, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and party national president JP Nadda are likely to visit the state in quick succession from this month. Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit Sambalpur on December 24 to inaugurate the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

Informing media persons, Opposition chief whip in Assembly Mohan Charan Majhi said the prime minister is scheduled to visit western Odisha on an official programme by the end of this month. He is likely to address a public meeting during his visit, Majhi said.

The director, of IIM Sambalpur, Mahadeo Jaiswal has also told the media that the institute has received an intimation in this regard from the prime minister’s office (PMO), but an official confirmation is still awaited. Meanwhile, a team of IIM officials and Rengali MLA Nauri Nayak have visited the spot where the prime minister will address a public meeting.

The permanent campus of IIM-Sambalpur is located at Basantpur, on the outskirts of Sambalpur. Modi laid the foundation stone of the permanent campus of the premier institute in 2021 through virtual mode from New Delhi. The new campus has been built over an area of 200 acres with an expenditure of more than Rs 400 crore.

The prime minister had last come on an official visit to the state in 2021 to take stock of the Yaas cyclone aftermath. He had also visited the Bahanaga train accident site in Balasore district earlier this year to review the rescue operations.

Modi’s proposed visit to Sambalpur is politically significant as the western Odisha region has been a traditional bastion of the saffron party. With the ruling BJD aggressively focusing on the western districts to make inroads in the 2024 simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, Modi’s visit is seen as a bid to fortify the strongholds.

Majhi further said that Amit Shah and JP Nadda will also visit the state after the Prime Minister. While Shah is likely to visit sometime in the last week of December, Nadda may follow in January next year. However, the dates and places of their visit have not yet been finalised, he said.

“The proposed visits of the three topmost leaders of BJP ahead of the next general election will boost the morale of the party workers and add energy to the organisation,” Majhi said.Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is also coming on two-day visit to the state on December 19 to attend the programme of Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad in Bhubaneswar on December 20.

Modi promises get a Naveen Patnaik twist as Odisha CM prepares for toughest battle yet

T aking a leaf out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vision 2047’ pitch, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday vowed to make Odisha a “developed state” by 2036 as he launched his campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls from his home turf, Hinjili.

Patnaik, who is seeking a record sixth straight term for the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), said, “When the state completes 100 years of its formation by 2036, it will be number one in the country.”

To counter the BJP’s “double engine” narrative of the same government in the Centre and state, Patnaik appealed to voters to bless “Jodi Sankha” (double conch) -- one for the Lok Sabha and another for the assembly polls. Conch is the BJD’s poll symbol.

Patnaik’s pitch to win maximum Lok Sabha seats is significant given the BJP’s rise in Odisha in the past 10 years. In 2019, the BJP increased its Lok Sabha tally to eight from just one seat in 2014, while the BJD’s number reduced from 20 to just 12 seats. The state has 21 Lok Sabha seats.

“BJP is expected to give a tough fight to BJD in almost all Lok Sabha seats. Many constituencies saw split voting in 2019 as voters chose BJP for Lok Sabha and BJD in the Assembly. But if BJP’s Lok Sabha voting trend reflects in assembly polls, BJD will be in trouble,” said a senior party leader.

Also Read | A second seat for Naveen Patnaik: Why BJD chief has chosen to contest from western Odisha

Also, BJD has always been able to “bargain” in New Delhi because of its numbers in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the leader said, adding that the aim is to win at least three-fourth seats in the Assembly.

The top brass of the two parties had held multiple rounds of discussions over an alliance in the run-up to the polls, but the talks ultimately fell apart.

Patnaik’s home turf of Hinjili is part of the Aska Lok Sabha constituency, where he started his political journey following the death of his father Biju Patnaik in 1997. For the past two decades, it has been a BJD fortress, with Patnaik representing the seat since 2000.

Elections in Odisha will be held in four phases between May 13 and June 1, and Hinjili will go to polls on May 20.

Though he criticised the Opposition parties for trying to stall the state’s development, Patnaik refrained from mentioning any BJP central leader by name. According to party insiders, the BJD, which used to raise the issue of “central neglect” towards the state until 2019, seems to have put the issue to rest.

The BJP, meanwhile, upped the ante against the Patnaik government, releasing a “chargesheet” highlighting “failures of the BJD government” in the past 25 years. The party will also organise small meetings in villages to amplify this campaign.

PM Modi to visit Odisha’s Sambalpur on February 3

However, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is yet to announce the details of the PM’s tour.

The PM is to inaugurate a permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Sambalpur at Basantpur locality on the outskirts of the city. He was supposed to visit the IIM in December 2023.

Worth mentioning, the PM previously laid the foundation stone of the campus on January 2, 2021. The permanent campus has been built over an area of around 200 acres at a cost of over Rs 400 crore.

The PM will likely hold a public meeting in Sambalpur in view of the upcoming General Elections 2024. Proposed visit of the PM to Sambalpur district assumes significance as western Odisha is considered as the bastion of the BJP. Five of the eight Lok Sabha members of the party are from western Odisha.

Speculations are rife that Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be fielded by BJP from the Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat presently represented by Nitesh Gang Deb, a political analyst said.
