Peugeot Traveller review: eight-seat MPV tested

imgp9986.jpg

SPEC HIGHLIGHTS

That's not pretty.

No, but it's pretty useful.

It's an eight-seater. People-carriers and SUVs normally stop at seven. And you'd feel pretty useless if you drive off having left one of your intended passengers standing at the kerb.

But it's a van with windows…

It is, but not so crude as you might expect. Eight-seaters tend to fall into two sorts. The ones that really are vannish, with industrial cabins of hard walls and bare metal, and year-2000 equipment. Then there's the VW Caravelle and Mercedes V-Class that do at least have car-like trim and modern equipment, but cost a very stern £50k-ish each. This is £10k less, even in leather'n'nav trim.

So what exactly do we have here?

The Peugeot Traveller. (AKA Citroen SpaceTourer and Toyota ProAce Verso. They have different grilles and kit lists, but are essentially the same.) It's in Allure trim here, with the middle of its three available lengths. Size matters of course, and this one is below 5m long and, critically, under 2m high so it'll fit multi-storey car parks. It's handy and manoeuvrable, but it will still fit eight. In comfort.

Adults can fit in the third row – they'll have enough leg-room and width and their seats, like row two, individually recline.

Separate air-con is provided for the rear half with aimable vents, sunroofs, reading lights and electrical outlets. That goes to make the people in the back feel kindly treated.

The words 'executive shuttle' come to mind.

Sure, there are obvious commercial uses for this thing, but it does have family-and-friends relevance too. It's pretty flexible. The Allure has two front seats, three behind and three more in the tail.

Also, you've got to go a long way to find a vehicle that can take three Isofix child seats in one row, let alone two rows as this one can.

Rows two and three split-fold and both of them slide. That leaves good opportunity for making the boot bigger.

There's a boot?

Of a sort. Behind row three it's 603 litres, a very tall space, but cramped front-to-rear. Though you can expand it by sliding row three forward a bit. You do get a parcel shelf. Beware – because the boot is tall, everything has to be stacked upright and tends to topple out when you open the tailgate. A partial solution lies in the tailgate glass, which opens independently.

All the seats fold, but only by dropping the backrests, not tumbling too. So they're still an obstruction. You can actually take them right out, but that involves deploying major muscle groups. Or a crane. Then comes the issue of storing them outside the vehicle.

Top Gear tests usually don't put the boot before the driving. but it's going to feel like a van, surely. Looks like a van. A van with chrome grille, fancy headlights and a set of alloys. Lipstick on a pig.

Sure, it's a very van-like driving position: you sit upright with your legs pointing down not forward. But it's not uncomfortable, even over a long haul.

Beyond that, the dynamics do make a passable impression of a car, albeit not a brilliant one. Much of the platform is actually shared with Peugeot's mid-size cars such as the 5008. So the suspension is mostly placid, and the ride decently supple. This does not happen with most vans.

The steering is remote and low-geared, but otherwise cornering is capable. Anyway, handling agility is about the last trait you want when there are six mouths behind you waiting to vomit down the back of your neck.

Anything in the way of performance?

The engine is a 150bhp HDi, and it does a stout job, without making much fuss. It supposed to be able to beat 100mph, but boy that'd need a run-up. The 0-62 time of 11 seconds gives a better impression of its ability, and of course that's before you add seven more warm bodies. The stubby little gearlever clearly meets the transmission via a tortuous path – its action is on the flaccid side.

Fuel consumption is also in the car rather than truck realm – 35mpg is easily achievable, on an official rating of 53.3mpg and 139g/km CO2.

OK so it's not bad to drive and it's got space. But is the cabin a happy place?

The dash is nicely designed and decorated, if not quite made of the same level of robust-yet-soft material in a Caravelle. The rest of the cabin is well-decorated, for instance fully shrouding the bare metal of the doors and seat mechanisms, and carpeting the entire floor.

The car-derived platform also means lots of useful electronics, including active cruise, a HUD with speedo and navigation arrows, CarPlay/Android Auto, and a parking camera.

As to happiness, we can't guarantee what congenial company your travelling companions are. But the actual hardware around you is moderately cheering.

But it's still a van.

Alright alright. Not a van-like car, no, but a car-like van.

Peugeot Traveller Review & Prices

9.14M 1.41M 1.1M 1.47M 81.6K

The Peugeot Traveller is a large MPV that can take as many as nine on board. It has lots of room inside, but you can never forget you’re driving something that’s based on a van

What's good

  • Loads of room for passengers
  • Economical engines
  • Not a van on the inside

What's not so good

  • Lots of wind noise
  • Patchy material quality
  • Nine-seater version has low quality seats

Find out more about the Peugeot Traveller

Is the peugeot traveller a good car.

The  Peugeot  Traveller is a large van-based MPV with up to nine seats, but running costs comparable to a regular car. It’s an alternative to the Mercedes V-Class and Hyundai i800 .

As soon as you see the Traveller, it’s obvious that it has its roots in a van, but that’s not a problem. On the contrary, it has the distinct benefit of allowing buyers to choose from a variety of arrangements. That means that not only can you pick from different seating arrangements – covering both the number of seats and how they’re laid out – you can also choose between two different lengths of vehicle.

As you can probably guess, the Traveller’s large, boxy exterior means that it has a massive amount of space inside for passengers – far more than in a conventional MPV . And, if you remove all the rear seats – which is not easy, as they’re pretty heavy – you can have a colossal luggage capacity of as much as 4,500 litres to play with.

Again, it’ll come as no surprise that there’s a van-like air to the materials, but the design and equipment are reminiscent of what you’ll find in a Peugeot car.

So, among the toys that are available are DAB radio, smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , dual-zone climate control and a 7.0-inch touchscreen. You can even get a head-up display that projects info – such as current speed – onto the windscreen, as well as a reversing camera.

If you have a particularly large family or regularly have to move lots of people, then the Traveller could be the right car for you Mat Watson Car (Review) Expert

Overall, if you’re upgrading from a family  hatchback , you’ll find the standard equipment is decent, but not particularly generous for the price. You get cruise control, parking sensors and air-conditioning, while radar-guided cruise control, automatic city braking and an 180-degree camera are notable options.

Despite the tall body and the high seating position, driving the Traveller is fairly easy. It’s surprisingly manoeuvrable and the soft suspension means that you won’t feel too many bumps. Ultimately, though, you can never forget that you’re driving something that’s basically a van. On the motorway, the Peugeot’s brick-like aerodynamics mean it suffers from more wind noise than conventional, car-based rivals such as the Ford Galaxy . And, when you turn into a corner, there’s a lot of body roll.

Just as unsurprisingly, the only engines available are diesels, but what will probably come as a surprise is that the smallest unit is just a 1.5-litre unit. Naturally, it doesn’t get the Traveller moving all the quickly, but it has the advantage of the lowest CO2 emissions and the best fuel economy in the range.

If you’re likely to be using the Traveller more heavily laden, then it’s worth considering one of the stronger engines, both of which are 2.0-litre units. They give progressively stronger performance, but the price you pay are increasingly high fuel consumption and emissions.

If you have a particularly large family or regularly have to move lots of people, then the Traveller could be the right car for you. But, the likelihood is that most people will find a more conventional MPV or SUV suits them better and will cost them a fair bit less to buy and run.

Driving and handling

Fuel economy, verdict and price, exterior photo gallery, interior photo gallery.

The minivan marketplace isn’t as big as it once was in the early 90s. Now, there are only a few options available for those who want a big family and cargo carrier. You have the likes of the Toyota Alphard, the Toyota Hiace Super Grandia, the Kia Carnival, and the Peugeot Traveller Premium 8-Seater . While the rest of its competitors are a bit more established, the Traveller brings something special to the table thanks to its versatile seating, frugal engine, and great feature set.

This now begs the question, what sets the Peugeot Traveller apart from the rest of its competitors? With that in mind, we will try to answer that and much more with our in-depth and honest review of the minivan.

  • Versatile seating
  • Massage seat function
  • Frugal diesel engine
  • No power tailgate
  • No 360-degree camera
  • No grab handle for the driver’s seat

Peugeot Traveller Premium exterior front

When it comes to minivans it's hard to redefine the rectangular shape that works very well in maximizing interior space. The Peugeot Traveller Premium does come with a boxy design but with a curved front end to give you a more aerodynamic shape. While the cat-like design cues aren’t as strong as compared to its crossover siblings the 2008 , 3008 , and even the 5008 , a few hints are still here and there, especially with the headlights.

At the front, you get a large grille that is just for design as there are no actual vents that lead anywhere. If you are curious, the Peugeot Traveller actually “breathes” through the bottom air ducts that supply a great amount of cooling and airflow into the engine bay of the minivan. You do get Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights at the front with a clear and crisp cut-off as well as a great throw. These are things that will help you greatly especially when traveling at night.

On to the sides, and there isn’t much to talk about aside from its massive power sliding doors and large windows. Aside from this, it's clean lines all around and not much to complain about.

Peugeot Traveller Premium trunk space

At the back, it's another round of flat surfaces with a nice accent on the massive tailgate which is unfortunately not powered. The rear glass does open to give you access to the cargo space at the back and there is a tonneau cover provided but this is only good for lighter items. One thing we do have to commend is the space at the back which can fit a set of 15-inch tires and more if you need it.

Peugeot Traveller interior 2nd row

The cabin of the Peugeot Traveller Premium is specious, while there is no center console, it does give a lot of room for maneuverability. This allows the passengers to easily get to the front passenger seat without having too much trouble. It's also great if you have to quickly get to the driver’s seat if you are sitting in the second row of the vehicle.

Speaking of the driver’s seat, once you get on it which is a bit of a climb for shorter people, you are greeted by a heads-up display and analog gauges with a digital trip computer. The instruments are crisp and clear and it's easy to quickly get acquainted with the new controls.

One thing we noticed with the Peugeot Philippines lineup of cars is there is a bit of a learning curve to get used to, but once you get used to it it's all good from there. In the case of the Traveller, this learning curve was less steep and we quickly learned the ins and outs of the minivan.

Peugeot Traveller interior all rows

Moving onto the back of the car you have greeted two rows of three seats that can move independently of one another which is great. The leather material is sturdy and supportive and won’t stress you out on long trips. One thing we did notice is that it's a bit difficult to fold and move the outermost passenger seat in the second row. This makes ingress and egress for the vehicle a bit difficult to do especially as the controls take some time to get used to.

Since space in the second row is quite good and the seats can be moved forward and backward a fair bit, there is a lot of legroom to spare even for taller passengers. The same can also be said for the third row as it too can be moved backward and forwards as well. One thing to note is that the second row also gets access to tray tables which are found behind the driver and front passenger seats. This is great as the second row doesn’t come with direct access to cupholders.

Storage space is also great with the Peugeot as it comes with small cubby holes on the doors and in the dashboard where you can store items. The boot space is also excellent as it comes with 1,060 liters worth of space. To put that into context, you can store a set of four 15-inch wheels with tires on at the back without them impeding on space for the third row. We actually even tested it and we could put a folding table with folding chairs on top of the tires as well.

Peugeot Traveller Premium power seats

Riding inside the Peugeot Traveller is quite a pleasant experience as the bumps are kept at bay by the suspension. In the driver’s seat, you get a van-like experience as you are seated in a more upright position compared to that of a car or crossover. You do get to see more of the road and the fact that the Peugeot comes with a massager function for the front seats also helps elevate the levels of comfort. The massager function does focus more on your lower back which is great, especially on longer trips.

At the back and in the second and third rows there isn’t anything to complain about if you are an average-sized Filipino. The space is decent and the seats are supportive enough to get you through long-haul trips. For taller passengers, however, it can be a bit of a tight fit if you are in the third row.

Peugeot Traveller Premium infotainment system

In terms of technology, the Peugeot Traveller has a decent amount. It may not be as high tech as its other competitors, but it's all useable tech. It has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 3.5-inch instrument panel, and a head-up display for the speedometer. It also comes with massage seats and automatic sliding doors. You also do get a decent amount of charging options with the 220V socket found behind the front passenger seat along with 12V sockets found on the dashboard and in the third row. While you may have to buy an adaptor for the socket as it comes in the European style, it's still very much useful and can charge multiple handheld devices and even a laptop.

Peugeot Traveller Premium safety

For safety, the Peugeot comes with ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Climb Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Blind Spot Assist, Front and rear Parking Sensor, Rear View Camera Visiopark 1 that gives you a 180-degree view of the back, and programmable Cruise Control with Speed Limiter. These features and more make it easier to drive the rather large van.

While these are the industry standard for the segment, we do wish that Peugeot adds a bit of tech such as adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera for the Traveller to really put it a cut above the rest in terms of its safety features.

Peugeot Traveller Premium headlight

The Peugeot Traveller is not a race car but it does give you good handling as a front-wheel-drive minivan. The suspension is soft for comfort but gives you a decent amount of grip when cornering. You do feel the heft and size of the van when driving it but it's very manageable. The engine is nice and quiet, however, NVH can get a bit low past 80kph.

That being said, there isn’t a rush of acceleration that comes in unlike its competitors, the Peugeot Traveller goes for a more linear feel which is great for passengers. While the 2.0-liter turbo diesel may not seem like it has much to offer it can quickly get the minivan up to speed if you want it to. The 8-speed automatic transmission shifts quickly and is smart enough to put you into higher gear when you just want to cruise around and save on fuel.

One thing we do have to note is that the braking action on this particular unit that we got felt a bit assisted as the pedal had some play to it before you would feel the brakes actually bite. It's not a bad thing as the car was able to stop fairly quickly but it's something a new owner or driver will need to get adjusted to.

Peugeot Traveller Premium engine

The Peugeot Traveller comes powered by a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 150hp and 340 Nm of torque. While it may not seem like a lot on paper, this powerplant is more than enough to rocket the minivan to highway speeds in a matter of seconds. In fact, the Traveller has a zero to 100 time of approximately 12 seconds which isn’t bad for a vehicle of its size.

Now on to the good stuff, its fuel efficiency figures In the city we were able to get 10km/L which isn’t bad considering that the Traveller is essentially a big brick on the road, however, where it shines is on the highway. Considering its size and less than favorable aerodynamic shape, we were actually able to get 18km/L which is great for a vehicle of its size. Thanks to its 70-liter tank you can also expect to go at least 600 kilometers or more with mixed-use.

Peugeot Traveller Premium exterior

The Peugeot Traveller is in a bit of a tight spot, especially against the likes of the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Hiace Super Grandia. All of its competitors aim for a great premium VIP experience, while the Peugeot is aimed more toward a premium family experience. This is where it sets itself apart from the rest.

The Peugeot focuses more on the family aspect of being a minivan/MPV. The seats are great for kids and the versatility that the vehicle offers is excellent if you need to haul people and cargo at the same time. The materials used are premium as well which makes it worth its P3,090,000 price tag. The sound system is also decent with it by default being time aligned towards the center of the vehicle so that everyone can hear.

Overall, the Peugeot Traveller Premium 8-seater is great at what it offers, and what it offers is a premium family van for the whole family. It may not come with the fancy captain’s chairs of its rivals but its seats are still premium and the materials used more than justify its price. It's a great family van with very little to complain about.

Peugeot e-Traveller review

Electric van-based MPV can carry plenty of people but has a limited range and is more expensive than direct rivals.

Introduction, what car says....

Praise be to the Peugeot e-Traveller  because you can now drive your extended family through London without burning fossil fuels or having to resort to one of those expensive horse-drawn carriages.

Yes, you read that right: this very large eight-seat (or seven, if configured as such) van-based MPV is actually an electric vehicle. The e-Traveller is not only quiet enough to avoid startling the horses trotting down The Mall, but also avoids the congestion charge.

Instead of using a diesel engine (as is traditional with van-based MPVs ), you get an electric motor with up to 134bhp. The motor gets its juice from a 50kWh battery pack that you can charge at a rate of up 100kW if you can find a charger capable of that speed.

The e-Traveller's body and electric tech are essentially the same as you’ll find in a Citroën e-Spacetourer and  Vauxhall Vivaro-e Life . If you’re wondering where this Peugeot fits into that hierarchy, just know that both those rivals have stripped-out and rather basic entry-level versions to keep the price low, while the e-Traveller is 'the posh one', aiming to take on the  Mercedes EQV .

What Car? Buying a car frequently asked questions

What Car? has a buying service

So does the Peugeot e-Traveller successfully fit into the niche but expanding sector of zero-tailpipe emissions people carriers, and how does it compare with the best MPV  rivals?

Read on through this comprehensive review to find out whether it's good to drive, how comfortable all those passengers will be, whether the running costs are manageable, which trims and engines we rate and much more.

When you're ready to buy a new vehicle of any make and model, don't forget that you can track down the best prices using our free  What Car? New Car Buying service . It has lots of  Peugeot e-Traveller deals .

Performance & drive

What it’s like to drive, and how quiet it is.

Your Peugeot e-Traveller engine choice is simple because there's only one option: an electric motor borrowed from the Peugeot e-208 and Peugeot e-2008 . There are three drive modes – Eco, Normal and Power – which vary the available power considerably, up to a maximum 134bhp.

The Power mode gives you the full whack, with the potential for 0-62mph in a not bad (for a massive passenger van) 10.8sec. If you stick the e-Traveller in Eco when you’re running low on juice, you’ll only have 80bhp to play with and a vehicle that will struggle to top 65mph on a level motorway.

Speaking of range, the e-Traveller has an official figure of 148 miles, and that's fairly typical for this size of van-based MPV . You can expect to get significantly less (potentially under 100 miles in our hands) if you’re travelling on a motorway while loaded up with people and luggage. The Mercedes EQV  has a much longer potential range north of 200 miles.

Peugeot Traveller image

You can improve the range by using the gearbox’s ‘B’ mode for increased regenerative braking. This puts energy back into the battery while slowing the vehicle down, lowering your overall consumption. Even without it engaged, the brakes are pleasantly progressive as they switch between regeneration and the vehicle’s mechanical brakes.

Ride quality – which is usually of greater importance than performance in a people hauler – is generally fine. Compared with a non-electric Toyota Proace Verso (which has the same platform), the e-Traveller isn’t as settled over scruffy road surfaces.

That may change with passengers on board, but it will still end up feeling quite bouncy over undulations at speed. Plus there’s a significant ‘thwack’ sound that reverberates through the interior when you hit a big pothole at town speeds. Fortunately, there’s no real motor whine of note while you’re driving the e-Traveller, and wind and road noise are well contained.

On the road, you won’t be mistaking the e-Traveller for a smaller MPV like the Volkswagen Touran , but it is at least just as easy to drive. The steering is pretty accurate, although it does involve a lot of arm twirling when parking. At higher speeds, the body leans a bit in tighter bends, but you get used to that after a while, and generally appreciate the e-Traveller’s decent grip levels that allow you to maintain your pace down a country road.

Peugeot e-Traveller rear cornering

The interior layout, fit and finish

One of the benefits of going for the Peugeot e-Traveller over regular MPVs and seven-seat SUVs is that you tower over other vehicles. That’s thanks to its commanding driving position, even in the seat’s lowest setting (you get height adjustment as standard). In typical van fashion, you sit above the pedals, which could take some getting used to if you’re coming from a car or SUV.

The boxy shape of the e-Traveller makes it easy to judge the width, but you can't see the stubby nose from the driving seat, although if you go for the top-end Allure version, you get front parking sensors, which you can’t add to the Citroën e-Spacetourer or Vauxhall Vivaro-e Life .

Citroën gives you rear parking sensors as standard to help when reversing in tight spaces, but a rear camera is only available as part of an expensive visibility pack on Active, or standard on Allure trim.

The e-Traveller doesn’t sound like a van, but it can’t hide its commercial vehicle heritage inside. Even the poshest Allure trim, with its ‘brushed aluminium’ inlays and leather seats, can’t hide the acres of hard plastic. At least rear air-con is standard, and the overhead console comes with plenty of air vents for good ventilation. A Mercedes EQV is quite a lot more premium inside, though.

All versions of the e-Traveller get a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, a DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, and a USB socket. Sat-nav is an option on Active and standard on Allure. It’s a fairly easy system to navigate but some of the icons are small and it can be a bit sluggish to respond to commands. Allure models have a grander nine-speaker sound system that sounds plenty good enough, although it’s probably helped by the lack of engine noise getting in the way.

Peugeot e-Traveller interior dashboard

Passenger & boot space

How it copes with people and clutter.

You can have your Peugeot e-Traveller in either Standard or (with top-end Allure trim) Long, and you can fit eight people inside comfortably, with plenty of head, leg and shoulder room to go around. The difference is, you’ll have an easier time hauling around the luggage of those eight people in the Long version because it has a bigger boot.

The benefit of opting for such a large vehicle is that you can fit six actual people across the second and third rows.

The seats can be reclined for additional comfort and have Isofix mounts so you can fit child seats. They also slide so you can trade boot space for leg space if required, and all rows get a 12v socket for charging various devices.

A seven seat configuration with two ‘captain’s chairs’ for the second row is available for additional cost. They can be spun round if you fancy ignoring the driver and having a conversation with the people in the third row.

The e-Traveller in Allure trim has a panoramic sunroof as standard, and it lets lots of light into the rear without making much difference to the very generous headroom available.

Even with all three rows in place, there’s enough space in the e-Traveller’s boot to handle lots of holiday luggage. You have to leave a good space behind the car when you park, though, because the long tailgate is hinged from the top and needs plenty of room to swing open. Top-spec Allure helps with this by including a rear glass window that can be opened separately.

Peugeot e-Traveller interior rear seats

Buying & owning

Everyday costs, plus how reliable and safe it is.

The Peugeot e-Traveller is more expensive to buy than the Citroën e-Spacetourer or Vauxhall Vivaro-e Life . Both rivals have stripped-out entry-level versions that qualify for the Government’s electric car grant making them even cheaper, while no e-Traveller qualifies. The premium  Mercedes EQV  is much more expensive than all three.

You can recharge the e-Traveller’s batteries pretty quickly. According to official figures, it’ll take around 30 minutes to go from a 10-80% charge if you can use a 100kW charging station . A domestic 7kW wallbox charger will complete a full charge from empty in 7.5 hours.

There are two trim levels available. Entry-level Active cars get manual air-con, cruise control, a digital radio with a 7.0in infotainment system, 17in alloy wheels and rear parking sensors. The Allure trim – which you have to have if you want the longer L model – adds Xenon headlights plus front parking sensors and a reversing camera, leather trim, electrically heated and adjustable front seats, a better stereo, and keyless entry and start.

Safety kit includes automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and driver drowsiness monitoring (in the Driver Assist pack). Blind-spot warning is standard on Allure trim to help spot traffic along your flanks.

Peugeot didn’t do particularly well as a brand in our latest 2021 What Car? Reliability Survey , coming in joint 22nd place with Mercedes and Vauxhall. Citroën did much better, coming 11th out of the 30 manufacturers included.

Every Peugeot gets a three-year warranty, and the battery pack is covered under a separate eight-year or 100,000 mile warranty.

PEUGEOT Traveller 2016 - Present

Peugeot introduced the Traveller in 2016 as its largest MPV for private and fleet customers, a nine-seat vehicle that helped large families to travel together.

European automakers didn’t have too much experience in building minivans, and the market segment was not big enough to help them make a good profit if they didn’t play it smart. So, the Peugeot-Citroen group (PSA) allied with Toyota and made one. In addition, since Opel was already part of the PSA, it made its own version. But each automaker tried to adapt its version so it could fit in the brand’s design language, so the French automaker Peugeot did the same and gave the car a distinct look. It wasn’t exactly a looker, but thanks to its approach and pricing policy, it sold well on the European market.

Usually, minivans can’t tell a design story, and those made in cooperation with several brands are even less distinct. And yet, Peugeot’s design team managed to accomplish that when it penned the Traveller. At the front, the tall bumper featured a “fang” that masked a small portion of the headlights. Thus, it resembled the same design language seen on other Peugeot models, such as the 2008 and 3008. Unlike those models, the Traveller wasn’t fitted with LED bulbs, so customers had to deal with the regular halogen or Xenon headlamps. Furthermore, the black grille with chromed a surrounding resembled other vehicles made by the same brand, while the lower part of the bumper carried over design elements from the 308 and 208, especially the boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. From its profile, depending on the trim level and options, Peugeot offered either steel wheels or light-alloy ones. The automaker made the car with standard front doors and a sliding one on the curbside, while the one from the driver’s side was on the options list. At the back, the Traveller featured a large tailgate.

Inside, the automaker tried its best to provide what customers needed, from a low-grade, fabric-covered seat to a luxurious, leather-wrapped interior. Moreover, a panoramic glass roof added more light to the interior over the second and third rows of seats. For the driver and side passenger, the automaker installed tall individual seats. In front of the steering wheel, the automaker placed an instrument cluster filled with a few dials and a small TFT that showed data from the car’s onboard computer. For more convenience and pleasure driving, Peugeot added a touchscreen atop the center stack, which supported Bluetooth connectivity. Since the MPV was available in a choice of three lengths. The shortest was mostly for business or family use, while the longest was more suitable as a shuttle vehicle.

Under the hood, PSA installed a choice of four engines ranging between 94 HP (95 PS) and 174 HP (180 PS). The lowest-powered version was paired with a five-speed manual, while the upper ones were available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. All of them sent their power to the front wheels only.

It is with great excitement that we announce the Traveller has a new all-electric variant: the New e-Traveller MPV. Coming later in 2020, the New e-Traveller is the next step in Peugeot’s roadmap of creating a fully electric and hybrid fleet by 2023.

With the All-New 208 , All-new 2008 SUV , Peugeot 508 , All-New 508 SW and 3008 SUV getting an electric variant (as well as Partner and Expert vans), it was not a surprise that the popular spacious MPV joins their ranks.

Updated 2024 Peugeot E-Traveller adds range, tech and style

Peugeot’s electric passenger van now travels up to 217 miles on a charge and comes with new look.

peugeot traveller 4x4

Peugeot has unveiled an updated version of its all-electric E- Traveller van, now capable of much improved range and coming with some new styling elements. Available in two length options the E-Traveller joins a range of EV passenger vans in Peugeot ’s range including the new E-Rifter .

Key improvements over the previous Peugeot E-Traveller model include a 50 per cent larger battery pack which now sits at 75kWh. This gives the new van 217 miles of claimed range, a significant increase over the previous model’s 143 miles. This larger battery powers the same 134bhp, 260Nm electric motor which sends drive to the front wheels.

Charging capacities are unchanged from the former E-Traveller model. It offers onboard 7.4kW AC charging with an 11kW three-phase charger available as an option, as well as the ability to charge at up to 100kW on DC, taking 45 minutes to charge between 10 and 80 per cent.

2023 Peugeot E-Traveller - rear static

The E-Traveller will be available in both regular and long forms, coming in at 4.98m and 5.33m long respectively, but retains a relatively narrow width of 1.9m to help traverse narrow city streets.

Inside, the updated cabin now features a new 10-inch infotainment hub and a digital dial set shared with Peugeot’s passenger models, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto . It also comes with a range of different tech depending on the chosen specification. This includes wireless phone charging and up to four USB-C points.

The E-Traveller comes fitted with between 5 and 9 seats, including a Business VIP trim that features four individual leather seats, luxurious interior appointments and a tinted glass roof.

Externally, the new E-Traveller features Peugeot’s latest design elements including triple lighting signatures within the LED headlights, as well as a blanked off grille and restyled lower bumper.

NEXT GENERATION TRAVEL

With its modern front end, the full-electric PEUGEOT e-Traveller has a strong character expressed through an elegant design.

The e-Traveller adapts to your requirements thanks to its 2 lengths (Standard and Long). Its modular configuration can accommodate up to 8 people with 1,500 litres of boot volume; up to 5 people with 3,000 litres of boot volume; or 4,900 litres due to its removable seats in rows 2 and 3.

A STRONG CHARACTER

The PEUGEOT Traveller is the perfect invitation to take to the road for fun leisure activities as well as long trips. Its modern and elegant silhouette offers a spacious and luxurious interior where everything has been designed for your comfort.

NEXT GENERATION TRAVEL

With its vertical grille, LED light signature and Xenon headlights set into the car body, the PEUGEOT Traveller’s assertive design exudes strength and elegance.

FLEXIBLE TO FIT YOUR NEEDS

The PEUGEOT Traveller is available in 2 lengths. Eight passengers can travel comfortably in each of the spacious models. With a reduced height of 1.90m, you can easily access multi-storey and underground car parks in busy shopping centres and tourist spots.

2 GLASS ROOF PANELS

Two concealed glass roof panels, which can be covered and uncovered individually, cascade natural light into the passenger compartment and offer a panoramic view of the sky. The multi-purpose roof includes LED mood lighting while the individual reading lights ensure each passenger travels comfortably. For even more on-board luxury, the PEUGEOT Traveller has individual air vents and gentle air conditioning for the rear seats.

EASY ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE

With the hands-free sliding side door feature, you can easily open and close the PEUGEOT Traveller’s doors, even when you have your hands full. This unique technology locks and opens the sliding side doors by just moving your foot under the rear bumper of the vehicle.

OPENING REAR WINDSCREEN AND BOOT

The rear windscreen conveniently opens so you can still access your boot when opening the tailgate is not possible in a tight parking space. The PEUGEOT Traveller fits all your loads; it can carry up to eight people with 1500 litres of boot volume, up to 5 people with 3000 litres or 4900 litres due to its removable seats in row two and three. By folding up the front passenger seat, the PEUGEOT Traveller can also transport long objects up to 3.5m.

DISTINCTIVE SYMBOLS

The grille adorned with a dichroic Lion with green and blue reflections clearly positions the new e-Traveller as a PEUGEOT electric model. The charging port cover has been positioned at the front, on the passenger’s side, for practical recharging, while the “e-Traveller” badge on the back makes its mark.

FRONT END

EASE AND COMFORT

Inside, the compact PEUGEOT Traveller MPV is dedicated to driver comfort. The step provides easy access to the elevated seating, which dominates the road and offers a saloon-style driving position. The cockpit features a simple and modern design with elegant materials and innovative equipment. The ergonomic equipment, such as the Head-Up Display and the 7” touchscreen are always within easy reach and in view.

In full electric version, the instrument panel and touchscreen are part of an entirely electric world, where you can view electrical energy flows.

DRIVING IN COMFORT

The PEUGEOT e-Traveller’s new 3.5″ instrument display panel with colour matrix provides essential driving information such as the driving range status and powermeter in real time. The “e-Toggle” button offers immediate access to the electric automatic transmission controls. You can also choose between three driving modes ECO, NORMAL, and POWER , and the electric parking brake is standard across the range.

CALM AND CONNECTED JOURNEYS

Make your journeys easier by using the Connected 3D Navigation. The system also has PEUGEOT Connect services and live traffic updates from TomTom® Traffic. The 7” touchscreen integrates the Mirror Screen® function, so you can enjoy your compatible Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto smartphone applications.

HEAD-UP DISPLAY

Essential information, such as speed, cruise control or speed limiter, time between vehicles, is projected in colour on a retractable display located in the driver’s field of vision to aid driving.

GREATER MODULARITY AND GREATER FLEXIBILITY

The Traveller is available in seating configurations of 5, 7 and 8 places in order to meet all of your requirements. The second and the third rows consist of split seats 2/3 – 1/3 where 2 sections are totally separate and can slide back and forth on the rails. This means the rear space is flexible and practical. For even more versatility, the seats not only slide but are removable too.

DRIVING IN COMFORT

UNCOMPROMISING PERFORMANCE

The PEUGEOT Traveller and new PEUGEOT e-Traveller MPVs boast the multi-energy EMP2i platform, offering you the freedom to choose between a diesel or a full electric powertrain.

engines

GRIP CONTROL

The PEUGEOT Traveller is equipped with Grip Control® technology, which improves handling through its traction control system. By turning a dial on the dashboard, you can select the most suitable grip level for your terrain, Snow, Off-Road, Sand, Standard ESP and Off. You can relax and enjoy your journey, knowing you will always be in full control of the vehicle.

VISIOPARK 1

The rear-view camera is activated automatically when the vehicle is put in reverse. It provides a 180° aerial view of the rear of your vehicle. The guidelines turn with the wheel. If there are any obstacles, the system will automatically zoom in, with additional views available on demand.

ROAD SIGN RECOGNITION AND SPEED LIMIT RECOMMENDATION

The multi-function camera recognizes speed limit signs and alerts the driver of this limit on the instrument panel and/or on the head-up display. You can then enter this speed into your speed limiter or cruise control, if it is activated.

SMARTBEAM ASSISTANCE

Activated at night, this intelligent system automatically switches the headlights from main beam to dipped beam and vice-versa depending on other vehicles detected by the camera.

ACTIVE SAFETY BRAKE

The Active Safety Brake is an automatic emergency braking system that intervenes if it detects an imminent collision. The camera and radar can detect any mobile or stationary obstacles. Should the driver fail to brake, either sufficiently or at all, the system triggers the braking system instead of the driver. This ensures you avoid any impact if the speed is below 18mph or reduces the consequences of a collision whatever the vehicle’s speed.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM

This feature detects when the car crosses over white and broken lines unintentionally when the indicator has not been activated. The audible and visual warning is particularly useful in the event of drowsiness or a temporary loss of concentration from the driver.

BLIND SPOT MONITORING

Using 4 sensors on the front and back of your MPV, Blind Spot Monitoring alerts the driver, throughout the course of the journey, to the presence of a vehicle in their blind spot on both the right and left side of the car. A light signal appears in one of the outside mirrors and on the dashboard to warn the driver.

GRIP CONTROL

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM

The range and battery charge of the PEUGEOT e-Traveller lets you travel up to 148 miles according to the WLTP (Worldwide harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedures) certification protocol.
