Ringo Starr announces 2023 North American tour dates with All Starr Band

“I love playing with the All Starrs and can’t wait to be back out on the road again," the Beatles drummer said

ringo starr tour 2023 canada

Ringo Starr has announced new dates for a 2023 North American tour accompanied by his All Starr band.

The former Beatles drummer will perform mostly at West Coast venues throughout May and June, including a three-night stint at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas. He’ll be joined on the 19-date tour by his All Starr bandmates Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette.

Starr’s tour begins in California on May 19, with two successive dates in Phoenix following after. He will perform his Vegas residency after that, before a two-night outing in San Diego from May 28. The remaining itinerary consists of shows in Seattle, Denver and San Francisco, with the final date slated for California’s San Jose Civic venue on June 17. See the full list of tour dates below, and head here for tickets.

“It’s a new year and here are some new tour dates,” Starr said in a statement. “I love playing with the All Starrs and can’t wait to be back out on the road again with this band.”

The new tour comes after Starr was forced to cancel — on two occasions — a slew of dates for his 2022 tour after contracting COVID-19 . Prior to that, 12 dates of the same tour were postponed when Winter and Lukafather likewise tested positive for the virus. “[Ringo] hopes to resume [touring] as soon as possible”, a statement said at the time.

Starr’s most recent project, an EP titled ‘EP3’, arrived in September of last year. Before that, Starr put out his latest solo album, ‘What’s My Name’, in 2019. He shared two EPs in 2021: ‘Zoom In’ and ‘Change The World’ . In a three-star review upon its release, NME described ‘Zoom In’ as “the sort of upbeat, unrelenting jollity we expect from Ringo”.

Ringo Starr and All Starr Band’s 2023 North American tour dates are:

Ringo Starr 's All Starr Band will hit the road this fall for a U.S. tour throughout September and October.

The monthlong trek will begin on Sept. 17 in Ontario, California, and run through Oct. 13 in Thackerville, Oklahoma. You can see the full list of dates below.

The current All Starr Band lineup features  Steve Lukather , Colin Hay , Edgar Winter , Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette. "I was in Atlanta in bed with the flu once and had to cancel two gigs, that's the only time," the former Beatle told Pollstar . "I love to play. I love an audience. This is a known fact. I keep telling the band, If only three people turn up, we're playing."

Before the fall trek, Starr will kick off his  spring tour on May 19 in Temecula, California.

Born Richard Starkey Jr. on July 7th 1940, Ringo Starr is best known as the drummer of the record breaking pop act, The Beatles.

Ringo Starr, like his peers in the Beatles embarked on a solo career despite his lack of songwriting abilities. His first and second instalments came in the form of “Sentimental Journey” on March 27th 1970, and “Beaucoups of Blues” released on September 25th 1970. The former reached number reached number 7 in the UK Albums charts, and number 22 in the Billboard 200. The latter unfortunately didn’t achieve similar chart success, however, it was recorded impressively in just two days.

His third album simply entitled “Ringo” released on November 2nd 1973 made it to number 7 in the UK Albums chart and number 2 in the Billboard 200. It was shortly after, certified Platinum by the RIAA. The album featured appearances of all four members of the Beatles. His fourth studio album, “Goodnight Vienna” despite not matching the success of the previous “Ringo” was certified Silver by the BPI and Gold by the RIAA, and peaking in the top twenty of eight countries.

Starr continued to release solo albums over the years including “Ring’s Rotogravure”, and “Ringo the 4th”. Unfortunately when Starr released “Old Wave” on June 16th 1983, the album didn’t achieve any chart success. He had a hiatus for the next decade, before releasing “Time Takes Time” on May 22nd 1992, which at best reached number 19 in Austria, however, Ringo Starr by this point had formed his All-Starr band, which he still tours with to this day.

On January 14th 2008, Starr released “Liverpool 8” which still managed to make the charts of six countries. He has also released a total of twelve live albums with his All-Starr band.

Live reviews

Ringo Starr blew the house down with his All-Starr Band on Friday, June 27th, 2014 at DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston, Michigan. At exactly 7:30 p.m., Ringo Starr burst joyfully onto the stage with Rockabilly Maestro Carl Perkins' famous song, "Matchbox", although Ringo Starr certainly did not have a long way to go! Following this Rockabilly Classic, Ringo burst effortlessly into his first solo hit, "It Don't Come Easy". Yet, throughout the entire 2 and half hour show, Ringo Starr kept the memories of his days with John, Paul and George constantly in mind! Ringo continued with his solo song "Wings".

He then made way for members of his All-Starr Band to "do their thing" with the following songs:

(1.) Todd Rundgren frolicked left and right on stage, with "I Saw the Light" and "Bang the Drum All Day".

(2.) Greg Rolie belted out the Santana hits "Evil Ways", "Black Magic Woman" "Gypsy Queen" and the Tito Puente cover "Oye como va".

(3.) Steve Lukather and Warren Ham broke-it-lose with the songs, "Rosanna" and "Africa". Steve Lukather also delivered a delectable solo in "Hold the Line".

(4.) Richard Page also "knocked the ball out of the park" with the Mr. Mister classic "Kyrie". He also drew Crowd-pleaser with the song "Broken Wings".

But, the undeniable Star of the show was the man "Ringo Starr", himself!

With almost no effort, except for one false-start on the song "Don't Pass Me By", from The Beatles "White Album", Ringo Starr gave his audience more than their money's worth with the songs, "Honey Don't" (another Carl Perkins Rockabilly Classic), "Yellow Submarine", during which he made reference to Led Zepellin, by warning that, "If you don't know this number, then you have come to the wrong venue!", his solo song "Anthem", "I Wanna Be Your Man" (before which he asked if there were any ladies in the audience?), "Photograph" (which he had co-written with George Harrison), "Act Naturally", which was written by Buck Owens, (about which Ringo said that always tries to Act Naturally), "With a Little Help from My Friends" and the John Lennon Anti-Vietnam Anthem "Give Peace a Chance", for which Ringo was joined once more my all the members of his 2014 All-Starr Band! Ringo finished off this truly memorable concert by saying "thank you very much! You have been a great audience! Always remember, "PEACE AND LOVE IS THE ONLY WAY!" "Good Night Everybody!" The audience was eager to catch a glimpse one more time of there "Starr", but this was not meant to be! The lights went up at 10:00 p.m. and Ringo Starr had made history yet again at DTE Energy Music Theater! By Amit Kshirsagar Ann Arbor, Michigan

Fun show in the round at Phoenix's Celebrity Theater with the legendary Ringo Starr fronting his band of "All-Starr"s Ringo was his usual fun-loving, funny and boisterous self coming out right at the start with his cover of "Matchbox" then into his own "It Don't Come Easy" & The Beatles "What Goes On".

It was then time for Ringo to sit on the drums and backup his fellow band mates as they took turns (figuratively and literally) onstage and first up was Gregg Rolie. Best known as Journey's keyboardist, Gregg's first gig was with Santana and this was 50 years ago during Santana's formative years and this was where they drew from as Gregg and band tore through "Evil Ways" with Toto's Steve Lukather on guitar. Steve was next with "Rosanna" and if I had only one complaint about the show, it would be the tone on Lukather's guitar. The screechy, high-compressed distortion tone worked for his 80's hits but a cleaner tone would've been much better for the Ringo and Santana songs, but overall the complaint is small as his interplay with band, especially Gregg Rolie, is exceptional.

The Average White Band's Hamish Stuart may be the least known member of Ringo's entourage and this was noticeable during his three takes at AWB hits throughout the night. The songs were well played and Hamish is having a blast but the crowd seemed indifferent using the time for bathroom breaks instead.

Colin Hay started his Men At Work with the ubiquitous "Down Under" which came off a bit lackluster but he and the band, especially multi-instrumentalist Warren Ham's sax playing on "Overkill" & "Who Can It Be Now".

The show wrapped with Ringo once again taking the center stage and a slew of hits ending with Sgt. Peppers' "With A Little Help From My Friends" and a little snippet of "Give Peace A Chance" to wrap the evening up.

It's a slightly cheesy but delightfully entertaining show. Yeah, it's not ALL Ringo (I was with a friend who was genuinely surprised at this fact, even though Ringo has been doing this for 30 years) but it was nice to see a true legend up close, and with the rotating stage, at every angle possible.

Ringo Starr is best known as the drummer of one of the most legendary, chart topping and record breaking bands of all time, The Beatles. What I was expecting was a solo tribute man nostalgically reminiscing over the music and band that made him famous. What I got was a legend and true talentin his own right. Ringo Starr absolutely smashed it. He brought the house down with a number of his solo hits, including ‘It Don’t Come Easy’ and ‘Wings’. Ringo and his band in no way tried to emulate The Beatles, but rocked the stage by bringing their own lively energy and music to the excited crowd. However, homage was indeed paid to the band that made Ringo a Star(r)! ‘With a Little Help from myFriends’ and ‘Yellow Submarine’ were, of course, played to rapturous applause. As was classic ‘Let it Be’, which was met with an incredible cheer from the crowd. However, Ringo did not stray too far from his own solo set and was careful to give his performance a distinctively non-Beatles vibe so as to make his own mark on stage, which he did to great success.

The concert was fine, but Ringo sang few songs. I paid a ticket to see Ringo not the others and listen songs like "Oye como va" Excuse me???? Sorry I must say I feel really disappointed.

Also the problem with the video recording or pictures. In 21st century is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE tell people do not use the mobile phone to record or take pictures. It was outrageous the people who were in the first 4 rows we were under the sight of one of the security not letting us take videos. Of course I move to other rows to not to be in his sight and I could make pics and videos.

I at least counted 45 people recording around me when Ringo sang "Act Naturally".

We were very happy that we chose this concert Ringo Sarr and All Star Band at the Warner Thearter in Washington DC. Mr. Starr was flanked by Mr. Lukather, Todd Rundgren, former Santana and Journey keyboardist Gregg Rollie, Mr. Mister vocalist and bassist Richard Page, drummer Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Spinal Tap) and multi-instrumentalist Warren Ham. They played HITS by all and our seats in row S was very close and the sound was excellent.

Saw the Beatles in 1965. Brought back great memories. Other featured artists a nice plus. Lots of great music. Signed up before the concert and received some cool items. Wearing Ringo shades!. May frame posters. Nice trip down memory lane. Went home and played my Albums...yes albums from the 60"s. Still sounds great!

Phenomenal ! I had a really good time. Not only the band was phenomenal, But the mixture of hits from the 60s 70s and 80s was such a joy. Ringo it’s just amazing for a man of his age. I had a great time and I do not regret a penny I spent on going to the show.

Ringo was amazing. Lots of energy and his voice sounded as good as ever. The rest of the band was good but I think that most people would like to hear more of Ringo rather than Toto and Santana but maybe that's just my opinion. Overall, I enjoyed the show.

Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band Are “Ready to Rock” on Spring 2023 Tour

by Cillea Houghton May 24, 2023, 12:40 pm

Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band are ready to rock.

Videos by American Songwriter

The iconic Beatles’ drummer and the current members of his All-Starr Band – Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette – recently launched their spring 2023 tour in the U.S. Ahead of the tour, Starr and his bandmates shared their excitement with American Songwriter and other media during a press conference at rehearsals.

“The rehearsals are going great,” Starr said at the time. “I feel ready to rock.”

“[I’m] having the time of my life in this band,” added Lukather. “Love everybody, it’s going to be a great tour. We’re really excited to be here.”

“I love touring, but there’s no touring like touring with Ringo,” praises Stuart.

One of the trademarks of the All-Starr band that makes it unique is that each of the members gets to perform songs from their individual careers, alongside Starr’s hits. Collectively, the musicians have also played for Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Toto and many more iconic acts. Among the songs that have made the setlist include Starr’s “It Don’t Come Easy,” the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends,” a cover of Toto’s “Africa” led by Toto founder Lukather, “Pick Up the Pieces” by Average White Band of which Stuart is an original member and Men at Work’s hit “Overkill” that was founded by frontman Hay.

The bandmates agree that the sense of freedom they have onstage when it comes to reimagining their songs is part of what makes the live experience so enjoyable. “It’s such an interesting variety of material,” Winter explains. “I think that the chemistry of a band is a very unique and personal thing. I try to find a place to really listen and fit into what everybody else is doing. Then it becomes a whole new experience and a whole new thing. I think we do a lot of these songs in a very unique way that you will never have heard before.”

“It’s great playing with this band and for the freedom of…that we may change it a little,” shares Starr. “It’s not actually what was on the record, and that’s fine by me.”

“We put our own imprint into it,” adds Ham. “That’s what makes it unique and so much fun.”

The tour launched on May 19 in Temecula, California, and makes stops in San Diego and San Francisco; Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah. The band will play three shows at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada; and appear at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California, before the tour wraps on June 17 in San Jose, California.

They’ll then embark on a fall tour in 2023 that runs from September 17 until October 13.

Ringo Starr new music

At 82, Ringo is still doing the dang thing and putting in work.

In October 2022, the former Fab Four drummer dropped the four-song “EP3” with his All-Starr Band.

Composed of feel-good anthems and sing-a-longs, somehow the lad from Liverpool is still bringing the goods.

U ltimate Classic Rock called the short offering “genuine and infectious.”

You can listen to the four tracks here .

Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band hit the road again, playing all those memorable hits you know and love once you hear the first few notes. Joining former Beatle Ringo Starr is: Edgar Winter on vocals keys, sax and percussion; Steve Lukather (Toto) on guitar and vocals; Hamish Stuart (Average White Band) on bass, guitar and vocals; Colin Hay (Men At Work) on vocals and guitar; Warren Ham on saxophone, percussion, keyboards, and vocals; and Gregg Bissonette on drums, trumpet and vocals. We spoke with the engineering team for the tour when they performed several dates in Northern California.

FOH Engineer Brian Bavido

Front of house engineer Brian Bavido is entering his 18th year mixing Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. The gig originally came about when Bavido was working for Audio Analysts in the early 2000s. Some of Bavido’s other long-term clients have included Art Garfunkel, Lisa Loeb, Norah Jones and Dashboard Confessional — to name just a few.

Bavido started using a Yamaha Rivage PM7 console in the spring of 2018. “The desks we were using became a bit long in the tooth and it was time to make a change. And 2017 to 2018 was an odd time for many of the manufacturers. Most new consoles were in beta or early public phases. Friends were having issues with some other brands on the road, mostly to do with firmware compatibility problems, something I didn’t want to worry about.”

ringo starr tour 2023 canada

Ringo Starr photo by Steve Jennings

The reliability of Yamaha desks as a whole was a contributing factor in the decision for Bavido. “I trust that when Yamaha releases a desk to the world, they’ve put it through its paces. The pride of the engineering team in Hamamatsu is on par with that of any fine craftsman. I also reached out to many of our global vendors to ask them what they were looking to purchase in the coming year or two. Most of them had Rivage on their short list, which made the decision even easier. Of course, another big factor was the sound. Having come from the world of being a Waves user, I was initially skeptical of the Yamaha proprietary plug-ins and the Silk feature on the preamps. After quickly dialing up some sounds with the desk, I realized it wasn’t marketing hype, but truly were tools I could use to sculpt the sound of the show without the need for external rack gear or plug-in servers, which was something I was striving for.”

Bavido loved the idea of being able to walk in with a USB stick anywhere in the world, load the show, tune the P.A., do some virtual sound checking and be ready for the band. “The ability to share the RPio I/O racks on the fiber loop and get away from analog splitters — and their accompanying racks and cables — was part of the decision as well. I honestly can’t say enough great things about the Rivage platform. The ergonomics of the desk are quite amazing and have really helped me with a better overall workflow.”

Stayin’ in the Box

Bavido notes there are no outboard gear or plug-in servers being used either at FOH or in monitors. “Now that I’ve gone down that path, I can’t imagine worrying about all of those moving parts ever again. As far as what’s in the desk, I like to differentiate Ringo Starr and Gregg Bissonette’s drum kit sounds a bit. They do a great job complementing each other and are classic drummers who truly play for the mics, so I really don’t need much at all, but I do run Ringo’s inputs through the Rupert EQ 773, and then I put Gregg’s inputs through the Rupert EQ 810. I might not even touch the EQ, or only use the high-pass, etc., but simply having the signal pass through the plug-in really helps with the two kits being played simultaneously for a majority of the show. Outside of that, drum groups have the Rupert Comp 754 and Rupert Comp 369 respectively.”

In terms of other sources, Bavido reveals that “bass has a 773 as well, along with a U76. Saxes have Opto-2As to smooth them out a bit. Vocals are all either U76 or Opto-2A comps depending on what works best with a particular voice. I have a peppering of MBC4 multiband comps where needed on certain instruments and voices, along with the built-in De-essers. I also use the EQ1A on a handful of inputs. As far as time-based effects, I use just about everything in the desk to give songs from different eras their particular sounds.”

ringo starr tour 2023 canada

Bavido has to create the sounds of a lot of different players during each night’s show. “We have everything from an early Beatles song that only needs some tape echo and plate verb, to Toto songs where I utilize the H3000. My secret weapon to clean up the mix is Yamaha’s DaNSe plug-in. I have that on the vocals, saxes, percussion, etc. Basically, anything that needs cymbals, guitar amps, etc., get cleaned up. I’m a big fan of the CEDAR DNS 8 noise reduction hardware units, which I did carry with me for a bit until the DaNSe was released in the firmware on the Rivage. Having two plug-in signal chains with adjustable pick-off points on the Rivage is a game changer. I have one for singing and one for talking. For me, it’s very important to understand them when speaking between songs.”

When the tour is not carrying P.A. from Clair, Bavido usually assesses the tech and vendor on a case-by-case basis. He has all the vendors send him Soundvision, ArrayCalc, etc., files in advance for him to look at what they’re proposing for the room. “Most speaker systems are so good these days, they don’t require too much if deployed correctly. If it’s an L-Acoustics rig, I’m fairly well versed in Soundvision and Network Manager and like to dig in to finesse to my liking. I’m very hands-on,” he explains. “I walk the room extensively and will get tweaky with various zones of the room — nosebleed seats, balcony edges, etc. I want everyone to have an equally amazing experience, so I do what I can in the time given. This is a great, straight-ahead rock and roll show — no fancy effects or video, so I want the audio to be the best.”

ringo starr tour 2023 canada

Vocal intelligibility is key when mixing the band. “If you can’t hear the vocals, what’s the point?” says Bavido, “and not punishing people down front with subs and poorly deployed front fills is a sticking point. I typically set up what I call an ‘in fill’ to cover those seats versus front fills only. When people stand up, the front fills are useless in a theater setting.”

Another point of attention is low-frequency content. “Tight low-end is absolutely key, and bass definition is really important to me. However, I try to keep subs away from the audience members, or if we have rigging constraints where they can’t be flown, we really work on getting them in the least obtrusive spot possible. A speaker like the K2 has so much low-end in it, I really don’t have to rely on the subs all that much. Also, Ringo doesn’t use barricades. He wants the audience up to the stage, and that makes sub placement tricky as well,” Bavido says.

ringo starr tour 2023 canada

“The bass isn’t all about the low-end. The mids are so crucial for those notes to pop,” calling up a song like ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ as an example. “The bass and the vocals are the focal point of the mix. It has to be present. I do like a full mix, even if that means mixing a touch hotter than I would like in a room to get over the stage monitor levels. I run a multiband comp on my stereo bus to make sure nothing gets abrasive. I also want everything to pop and for fans to hear the nuances as much as possible no matter where they’re sitting.”

Bavido says he can learn something new every day on the road. “I’ve seen many incarnations of this band now and it’s been a real treat to get insights and stories from all of these legends, getting to mix all of these classic songs being played by the people who wrote them. It’s not about what mic or plug-in you’re using — it’s all about the songs, the arrangement and the tone and timbre.”

Bavido has nothing except his system EQ (on this tour it’s Lake units from Clair). He travels with his own Lectrosonics RTA RF system that he swears by, saying he wouldn’t leave home without it. “I call it the world’s most expensive mic cable. Software is Smaart 8 and Lake Controller. I switched over to Nuendo Live for nightly multitracking as it integrates for track names, etc. with the Rivage. That’s it. I only have a double-wide rack under my desk so I have something to put it on! I have drawers for computers, mics, etc. Truly, I’m only using about six of those rack spaces for actual gear, including a battery back-up.”

Monitor Engineer Michael “Fitz” Fitzsimons

An established pro whose other recent projects include Eric Clapton, Goldfrapp and Maisie Peters, Michael “Fitz” Fitzsimons is out with Starr as monitor engineer. Fitzsimons says Bavido has been mixing Ringo on the Rivage more or less since the console’s release, and in doing so on twin lane, they are able to reduce their truck footprint to something like four rows for monitors and control. “Perhaps I would have chosen something I was more comfortable with before mixing this tour — I’m an SD7 guy — but now, I wouldn’t do this gig on anything else,” Fitzsimons says.

“Mixing seven seasoned guys, is definitely a handful, but they all know what they want and how to articulate it. I’d say this show keeps my peripheral vision sharp! There are a lot of manual moves to make throughout the show, but you can never take your eyes off the stage with so much going on. Boosting the key elements and vocals per song as and when they happen, it’s really old-school monitor mixing. I love it!”

As with his counterpart at front of house, Fitzsimons is also mixing within the box on the Yamaha Rivage PM7 desk in monitor world. “But of course, I am utilizing several of the onboard plug-ins — the Rupert 5043 and 5045, and Yamaha’s inbuilt dynamic EQ’s — and it goes without saying, the Bricastis, too. We’re set up so that each ‘all star’ picks up their key channels on the first plug-in chain and then the second chain goes out to everyone else and that’s a really handy way of keeping the channel count down, as there are already a lot of inputs!”

Ringo’s drum kit miking consists of DPA 2011 & 4099s on his snare top and toms, Coles 4038 on overheads and the rest of the kit is Shure Beta 52, KSM137s and SM57s. Bisonettes’ kit is incredibly similar, but with Neumanns taking overhead duties.

“Every guitar amp on stage has a Shure SM57 in front of it — “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” says Fitzsimons, “and it really does apply here. We’re using sE Electronics’ Reflection Filters on Colin Hay’s amp mics too! The brass and percussion are all handled by DPA 4099s, and we have some wireless timbales which are Beta 98s into Shure Axient packs for the middle feature with Edgar Winter.”

Josef Giese (Monitor Systems Tech)

“This is my first tour with Fitz (Michael Fitzsimons). I think we work great together,” says monitor systems tech Josef Giese. “We share similar work ethics and love of food, so we take care of one another. My main job is looking after the patch, mics, stands, and make sure Fitz and Brian (Bavido) are taken care of. There are a handful of RF mic swaps during the show, so I handle those as well.”

Giese freelances here and there, and actually came into the RSAHASB world by way of subbing for Galen Henson as guitar tech for Colin Hay and Hamish Stuart. “I’ve worked for Colin in his solo band and Men At Work since 2015, so it was an easy transition. Once I finished my substitute duties, I got the call from Brian to come back out and join team audio. How can you turn down more time on the road with a Beatle?”

ringo starr tour 2023 canada

Clair Global has been providing Ringo’s tour with a full control package including two consoles, snake, distro, mic/stand package, wedges, Shure Axient and PSM1000 RF. “For the vocal mic, they’ve been on SM58s for a very long time,” Giese notes. “Why mess with it? Shure nailed it with those mics, and this is an old-school rock show, so they do the trick!”

All the band is wired except for Ringo’s downstage mic and one used by Edgar Winter when he’s singing lead. The RF mics have 58 capsules. Ringo has a wired 58 at his drum kit for songs he sings from there. “Ringo’s stereo wedges are behind him on the drum riser so the mic is essentially pointed directly down the throat of the horns so anything with a hyped response or a condenser would simply not work. Ringo uses wedges — the Clair coax CM14s are absolutely on stun the whole night and sound great. Everyone else except Hamish Stuart are on IEM’s, and they run the gamut from Shure SE215s to Sensaphonics or Jerry Harvey Audio. All with PSM1000 packs.”

 Crew? All First-Class

Bavido says the best part of working with this tour is how everyone on stage has seen and done everything imaginable. “As far as our crew goes, we’re really lucky. Somehow, we usually end up getting our core crew back out here for all the little runs Ringo does.”

Ringo’s drum tech, Jeff Chonis, has been here since day one of the All-Starr tours back in 1989. “Jeff is also our stage manager and is very passionate about everything being perfect. We have a few monitor engineers that pop in and out, depending on availability. Brad Galvin will be back once he’s done with Bruce Springsteen for the next leg. We also have Monty Carlo and Matt Fitzgerald come in and out depending on schedules — we’re a real family.”

REWIND FORWARD — THE NEW EP FROM RINGO STARR OUT TODAY OCTOBER 13, 2023

ringo starr tour 2023 canada

13 OCTOBER 2023 (TORONTO, ON) – Today Ringo Starr’s 4th EP, Rewind Forward, is released worldwide on digital, CD, and 10” vinyl and available for streaming everywhere.

The EP features 4 new songs:

  • Shadows On The Wall
  • Feeling The Sunlight
  • Rewind Forward

Rewind Forward was written with his engineer, and oft co-writer, Bruce Sugar. "We've been writing a song now for every EP," said Ringo. “Rewind Forward was just one of those things I say and it made sense in the moment. Like a Hard Days Night - I thought, why don’t we just Rewind Forward? To make sense of it, sometimes it is good to go back and move forward from a place you left off, you don’t ever have to live in the past but it is good to check it occasionally.”

The other tracks find Starr collaborating with old and new friends - including longtime All Starr Steve Lukather and his Toto bandmate Joe Williams who wrote the opening track “Shadows on the Wall;” “I asked Luke for a song - him and Joe Williams - and they put meat on it - so I wasn’t just getting a basic track I have to add everything to - it has guitar and bass and all I have to do is add my vocals and drums. Of course I always do the drums and sing - it is my EP!”

Paul McCartney wrote “Feeling the Sunlight” “We were Facetiming as we sometimes do and I asked him if he had a song or would write one for this EP I am making. A week later he sent the track over and he’s all over it - which is great -  playing EVERYthing, “ Ringo continues with a laugh, “including the drums!!!!!  So we had to take them off - I did the drums and the vocals.”

For the fourth and final track, “Miss Jean,” Ringo collaborated with Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers. “We had played together on an Ian Hunter track (which was number 1 on the Heritage chart - whatever that chart is!) and I’d played on a Tom Petty track. But this was the first song Mike has ever written for me,  which I loved. I put drums on it and sang it and he put everything else on it - that’s how it works.”  That “everything else” also included the work of fellow Heartbreaker and one of Ringo’s dear friends Benmont Tench.

In addition, the EP features contributions from Joe Walsh, Steve Dudas, Lance Morrison, as well as Matt Bissonnette, Torrance Klein, Weston Wilson, Kip Lennon, Marky Lennon (full credit listing below).

All songs were recorded at Ringo’s home studio in Los Angeles (except for “Feeling the Sunlight” where Paul recorded all his parts in the UK).

Today also marks the wrap up of Ringo and his All Starr Band’s Fall tour which began September 15 at Lake Tahoe Arena, with a special stop in Nashville where Ringo was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame before playing the legendary Ryman, and concludes tonight,  October 13, 2023, in Thackerville, OK.  Touring steadily since 1989, this current iteration continued the tradition of playing hits and delighting fans, as well as garnering praise from the press:

“Ringo brings hits, humor, peace and love and jumping jacks to Mystic Lake”

Minneapolis Star Tribune

“...a fabulous evening shared with some of the most impactful songs and talented artists that have left a footprint in musical history forever.”

  Soundcheck (Modesto CA)

“Rock Legend Ringo Starr Still Shines Bright at Raucous Ryman Return in Nashville”

Music City Nashville

“Ringo and His All Starrs delighted the sing-along audience…”

Detroit Metro

“Ringo’s Star is Shining Bright… The All Starr Band is an ever-evolving lineup of some of the most talented classic rockers… There were more standing ovations in two hours than I can recall!”

  Twin Cities Media

“The crowd stood throughout the show and gave a tremendous ovation at the conclusion. A purveyor of peace and love, Ringo proved he can still rock a stage, especially with a little help from his friends.”

Global Traveler (Chicago)
