How To Unlock And Reset 3-Digit Combination Lock?

The constant fear of someone potentially stealing your valuables from your suitcase or luggage bag can indeed be quite distracting and disturbing. Thankfully, reputed manufacturers like American Tourister, VIP, Safari, Skybags, and Aristocrat have been integrating 3-digit combination locks, often TSA-approved, into their trolley bags and suitcases for quite a long time now.

However, while these combination locks are easy and convenient to use, forgetting the code or password can put you in a trouble. Especially if you haven’t used the suitcase in a long time or have changed the code recently, you might forget the code.

In case your bag has a combination locking system, losing the key can also put you in a fix. Thankfully, several solutions can help you to unlock your 3-digit combination lock luggage even if you forget the password.

How To Unlock And Reset A 3-Digit Combination Lock Suitcase Or Bag

The Correct Way To Unlock 3-Digit Combination Lock Suitcase

Most suitcases and trolley bags are initially locked with the key code 0-0-0 in a 3-digit combination lock. It is recommended to change the default key when starting to use it. You won’t necessarily have to break open your bag’s lock or visit a locksmith if you have forgotten the combination or lost the key. There are multiple ways to open such a lock, out of which, we will describe the best method that worked for us.

Step 1: Inspect The Combination Lock

Inspecting The Combination Lock

Every modern suitcase and luggage by brands like American Tourister, VIP, Skybags, Samsonite, and Safari comes with a 3-digit combination lock. The TSA-approved locks are safer and more reliable.

However, all locks come with 3 thumb-wheels or disks with a marking from 0 to 9, as per the following picture.

Without a proper way, you have to try out all 120 combinations, which requires lots of patience. But there is a shortcut to reducing all the efforts.

Step 2: Rotate The Wheels/Disks To Find Out The Notches

Rotate The Wheels To Find Out The Notches

There is a notch or hole at the base of every wheel on the lock of the suitcase. If it is not visible to you, try spinning the wheels with your thumb until they appear.

This is a crucial step to unlock the suitcase as the notches at a certain degree angle (depending on the password) permit the lock to be opened.

Most travel bags and suitcases have such a facility that helps us unlock them easily, even if we forget the passcodes we set earlier.

Step 3: Align The Notches And Write Down The Initial Code

After finding out all the holes/notches, it’s time to align them in a straight line and note down the codes. In my case, the initial code is 5-4-3. However, this code will not unlock the bag. It is the primary pattern and angular combination on which the final password will unlock.

Step 4: Add 1 To The Code Of Each Wheel And Try All 10 Combinations

Trying All 10 Combinations

After noting down the initial code, add 1 to each digit and try pulling out the unlock button. You’ll have to follow a trial-and-error method and turn the dials until the lock opens. Make sure to keep the holes aligned by turning every dial precisely the same number of times. There will be 9 more such combinations for a 3-digit lock that you have to try out.

For example, when I added 1 to my initial code 5-4-3, it became 6-5-4. Keep trying all these combinations, and eventually, one combination will work. It will not take more than 2 minutes to solve this problem. In my case, I have found my forgotten combination password to be 3-2-1.

While around 70-80% of luggage like trolley bags and suitcases in the market will unlock with this method, some will not. In that case, you should try out other methods explained below.

Other Methods To Unlock The Bag

Apart from the above method, you can try out all possible combinations. Also, detecting the correct digits from the clicking noises works well on TSA locks. If none of these methods works, you may have to take your luggage bag to a locksmith or the brand store to get it unlocked. Locksmiths have the necessary tools to open a lock without damaging it.

Alternatively, you may use such tools yourself if you have access to them. Airport security personnel use TSA keys to open TSA-approved locks of the suitcases when checking luggage. You can buy these same keys or borrow one from someone to unlock a TSA-approved lock.

Do TSA locks Really Help?

The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) is an agency under the US Department of Homeland Security with authority over transport security in and connecting the US. A TSA-approved lock is globally accepted to allow passengers to lock their luggage and permit the security personnel to inspect it without causing damage. The ‘red diamond’ logo, along with a mark of ‘Travel Sentry’ ensures the lock is approved by TSA.

The main benefit of a TSA lock is improving the security standard. If you are planning for international travel, especially in the US, always pack a bag available with a TSA lock. As it allows the security personnel to inspect the bag more quickly, you won’t face any problems at the airport.

Is It Safe To Unlock Your Trolley Bag In This Way?

Hopefully, the above methods of unlocking your trolley bag work without its key or passcode. As you noticed, there are multiple ways to go about it, some of which are pretty simple and quick. Using trolley bag from brands like Safari, American Tourister and Mokobara will help you lock and unlock it securely.

However, this brings up another topic – if it is so easy to open a lock without its code or key, what’s the point of having a lock? This is a legit question, for your trolley bag isn’t safe if anyone aware of the tricks we described above can unlock it. So, besides using the inbuilt lock, it is better to use an additional lock like a padlock to keep your travel items safer.

How Does A 3-Digit Combination Lock Work?

As the name implies, a 3-digit combination locks have 3 wheels with markings from 0 to 9 on its 360-degree face. The users need to align the numbers to a preset password by spinning the thumb wheels. With the right combination, the suitcase will unlock instantly.

As mentioned before, every thumb wheel on the suitcase lock has a notch or hole at its base, which is visible only when the right combination or variation is made. When all the 3 holes are aligned in a straight line, you only have to rotate it in 10 possible combinations to find the correct code. It allows the locking fence to retract, releasing the combination lock.

Can The Combination Change By Itself?

It might seem very odd if you clearly remember the code (and possibly have it recorded somewhere too) but still can’t open the lock. While it doesn’t happen often, vibrations during aeroplane travel can alter the lock combination. In this case, too, you’ll have to find a way to unlock the suitcase and reset the code.

How To Reset The Lock After Unlocking?

Resetting the 3-digit combination lock is quite a simple process. Once you have found the correct password combination for your suitcase, rotate the wheels to form a suitable code while pushing the unlock button. Once the right digits are set, you can release the unlock button to reset the lock of your bag. Test the new combination a few times and you are ready to go!

It is a pretty straightforward method; however, please note down the new password to a secure place. Otherwise, you may have to go through all the above processes again.

If you've never set a combination on a luggage lock, it can be a bit confusing. Your best bet is to read the instruction manual that came with it or look up your specific lock on the internet, as each lock can be slightly different. However, most locks work on the same basic principles, generally using a button reset, a lever reset, or a shackle reset.

Changing a Lock with a Button Reset

Step 1 Unlock the lock first.

  • If the luggage is new, the combination probably came with the materials. It's likely just "000."

Step 2 Find the reset button.

Putting a New Code in a Lock with a Lever

Step 1 Find the lever.

Altering the Code on a Shackle Lock

Step 1 Release the shackle.

  • If this movement doesn't reset it, try moving to 180 degrees first, pressing down, and moving back to 90 degrees. You won't know if it reset until you put in a new combination and then try opening it with that combination.

Step 3 Reset the combination number.

If you need to reset a luggage lock that has a button reset, put in the current combination and make sure it’s unlocked. If the luggage is new, the combination is probably 000, but if it’s different, you should be able to find the combination on a tag that came with the luggage. Look for a small reset button on the bottom or the side of the lock, then push the button with a paperclip, pen, or pencil. With the button pressed, turn the lock to the new combination, then release the button. Keep reading to learn how to reset a lock with a lever! Did this summary help you? Yes No

How to Unlock Your Suitcase When You’ve Forgotten the Combination

Picture the scene, you’ve just arrived at your hotel in an unfamiliar city after a long flight. You put your suitcase on the bed and slowly turn the numbered wheels of the three-digit combination lock. You press the button to get access to your case but nothing happens. The metal zipper tags remain firmly trapped in the lock’s clasp…

A red hand luggage size American Tourister suitcase with a built in combination lock

Getting locked out of your luggage is something that happens to even the most seasoned travellers at some time or another. Luckily the ubiquitous, TSA approved, 3-digit combination locks used by brands such as Samsonite, Eastpack, Antler and American Tourister are easy to open without damaging either the lock or the case and without any special tools.

By following the steps described below, you will be able to quickly open the lock and re-program the code to a new 3 digit combination which is easier to remember.

A locked red suitcase with a TSA007 combination lock

How to Unlock Your Suitcase When You Forgot the Combination

If you look closely at the lock from above, you will see that to one side of the 3 numbered thumb-wheels there is a small disk (see photos below).

I have found that the best way to see the disks is by using your mobile phone’s camera.

Select the video camera and shine the flash down into the lock then zoom-in to see the disks more clearly.

Starting with the first thumb-wheel of the lock, turn the wheel one click at a time until you see a notch in the disk as shown in the photos.

Once you have lined up the notch of the first wheel you then repeat the process for the second and third digit until the notches of all three wheels are lined up (see the photo of the blue suitcase).

Once all three notches are lined up, turn the suitcase so you can see the numbers.

Note, this is NOT the combination code.

How to unlock a Samsonite or American Tourister suitcase when you have forgotten the code

Write down the numbers on the first line of a blank sheet of paper.

On the next line add 1 to each digit.

Repeat this 8 more times until you have a list of 10 3-digit numbers as shown in the photo below.

Try the codes one at a time until you find the one which opens the suitcase.

Once the case is open you can change the combination for one which is easier to remember.

With practice, the entire procedure takes less than 2 minutes.

Video: How to Quickly Open Your Suitcase Lock When You Forgot the Code

When writing this article I used 2 different suitcases, both of which are fitted with TSA approved Travel Sentry combination locks. The locks are slightly different models but the procedure is identical.

I made the video using the older, blue, suitcase because the notches in the green plastic discs are easier to see than the notches in the black disks of the red suitcase.

The code which opened the red suitcase was 2 clicks away from the position with the disks lined up. The code which opened the blue case was 8 clicks away.

If none of the codes which you have written down work you should check that you lined the notches up correctly. As can be seen in the video, there are normally two positions where the notches are visible. Make sure that all 3 notches are lined up in the same position. You can see that in the video I lined up the disks at the right-hand position.

How do Combination Locks Work?

The 3-digit combination locks used on suitcases are designed so that you can change the combination to a unique code which only you know.

To do this, you have to first set the lock to the current combination. You then press a small button (normally using a ballpoint pen) which frees the numbered thumb-wheels from the locking mechanism (currently in the open position).

You can then turn the 3 numbered thumb wheels independently to a new combination before pushing the larger button (the one which is used to open the lock). This re-connects the numbered thumb-wheels to the locking mechanism, activating the new code.

The method described above relies on the fact that part of the locking mechanism itself is visible (the notched disks next to the thumb-wheels). This makes the number shown on the knurled thumb-wheel pretty much irrelevant. Once the disks are aligned you simply need to rotate them around until the lock opens.

What Are TSA Approved Locks?

The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) is a US federal government agency responsible for the security of travellers that was created in response to the September 11 attacks.

All luggage is scanned before being loaded into aeroplanes and if any prohibited items are detected it will be opened by airport staff and the items removed.

TSA approved locks, identified by the red diamond shaped Travel Sentry logo, can be opened using master keys. The locks are often incorporated into suitcases but TSA approved padlocks are also available.

If your suitcase can’t be opened with a master key then, if they need inspect your luggage, airport staff will open it by force, cutting off padlocks etc.

Using a pencil and paper to crack the code

In theory the keys are only available to airport staff but in reality anyone with a 3D printer can print out their own master keys .

Is it Really worth Locking my TSA approved Luggage Lock?

As we have seen, the 3-digit combination locks fitted to most modern suitcases offer very little or no security. At best they stop your suitcase from opening accidentally during transit, preventing your dirty laundry from spilling out on the baggage carousel.

Some suitcases (including the red suitcase in the photos) have small metal hoops incorporated into the zip-pullers allowing you to use a padlock to lock your suitcase. Although at first glance this may seem to add a second level of security, in reality, it’s a waste of time. As shown in this video , zip closure suitcases can be opened quickly and easily using a ballpoint pen.

Hi. Will this work with the Merax luggage? I can’t see the notches clear like the pictures

I’m not familiar with the Merax brand but this method works for most makes of suitcase with surface-mounted combination locks that trap the zipper pulls. If you can’t see the notches, I recomend you try sliding a thin piece of card or plastic in beside the thumbwheel and then feeling for the notch as you slowly turn the wheel.

How do you reset the code if your suitcase is open but cant remember the password to reclose it?

If you’re suitcase is open, but you’ve forgotten the code, you can find it using exactly the same method as described above but without the stress of needing to open your case.

It worked, line up the notch & add +1 . At 5th number attempt, it unlocked. Very helpful. Thanks so much you’re the genius

Hi Diamond,

Thanks for your comment, I’m glad to hear you were sucessful.

Thanks so much this was so helpful! Almost had to get a full new wardrobe but thanks to you Richard, I don’t! You’re the G.O.A.T!

You’re welcome, and thanks for the feedback.

I have an Adrienne vittadini suitcase and forgot my combination. Is there anyway I can reset it. I lost the manual.

I’m not familiar with Adrienne Vittadini suitcases, but from what I’ve seen on the web, they seem to have the same type of combination lock as the suitcases I used when I wrote this post.

Have you already used the method described above to find the current combination?

Once you’ve found the combination, you can reset it by pushing the small button on the side of the lock using a ball point pen, and then moving the thamb wheels to the new combination.

It worked, line up the notch & add +1 . At 3rd number attempt, it unlocked. Very helpful. Thanks.

You’re welcome Saiful

Worked a charm on TSA 002 Lock Antler Luggage – Thank you

You’re welcome Alan.

My suitcase is of the older hard shell samsonite which has a combination lock that has no little wheel to guide.Any tips on this type.

You mean it’s one of the old plastic Samsonite suitcases where there’s no zip, and the lock is incorporated in a large plastic hasp, and you can see the numbers through small circular holes in the flap, right?

These locks still work the same way; it’s just that you can’t see the notched wheel.

What you can do in this case is try sliding a thin piece of plastic or stiff card in beside the thumb wheel and feeling for the notch in the disk.

Thank you. I tried lots of web sites and no luck. Using the notch line up and +1 number method worked.

Thanks for your comment; I’m glad to hear you were successful.

Thank you so much!

You’re welcome Dd

Welcome ;-)

Thank you so much it worked!

You’re welcome, Mandy!

Luggage safety is one of the most essential factors to travel responsibly. But what if you forgot your luggage pin out of nowhere?

Such a terrible nightmare while on vacation or business trip, right? In this article, we will show you a step-by-step instruction on how to unlock your forgotten luggage pin code.

Getting a TSA-Approved Lock

There are many types and ways to secure your luggage before the flight. However, before picking the type of lock, you need to ensure that the lock is TSA-APPROVED.

TSA or Transport Security Administration, is an airline/airport department that conducts strenuous inspections before the flight.

These locks will secure your luggage while still following standard TSA protocols. These locks are easy to use but resetting them can be quite tricky.

Importance of a TSA Lock?

Upon checking in your luggage, it goes through a lot of process before it gets inside the plane. Meaning to say, your luggage goes through a lot of hands. It’s the same process for departures and arrivals.

A TSA approved lock protects your luggage during the process to prevent restricted people from opening it. Only the TSA agents can have luggage access upon physical check of contents.

How Does It Work?

TSA agents possess a master key to inspect and open all TSA locks as necessary. If it happens that you did not use a TSA-approved lock, they will cut the locks open.

TSA conducts a random check of some luggages for different reasons. The major factor is when they suspect if the luggage contains prohibited items such as: drugs, weapons or explosives.

Rest assured that agents will always inform the passenger whenever they opened or inspected your luggage.

If ever this happens, make sure to reset the combination key of your luggage lock. This is just to ensure that no one in the future can access your luggage. You never know the slightest chance for it to happen.

Resetting luggage lock pins will also be discussed towards the end of this article.

Luggage with Combination Lock Feature

Luggages with a combination lock feature have two types: 3-digit or 4-digit code. If you picked the 3-digit code, you’ll need to pick your own pin to set-up the luggage security.

This is a popular choice for most travelers since it’s keyless. Imagine roaming around and about without having to worry if you lose your luggage keys or not.

Since the inevitable can always happen, here’s a travel hack on how to unlock your forgotten luggage pin code.

10 Steps on How To Unlock Your Luggage (if you forgot your pin code)

  • Set your luggage on the table where you can comfortably access the luggage’s lock.
  • Prepare your flashlight to help you better see the lock mechanism behind the numbered wheel for the combination. Make sure to pay close attention to the narrow gap between the wheels.
  • Slowly rotate the left wheel of the lock. You will see a notch in the wheel line up to the mark of the outside of the lock.
  • Do the same process to the second and third wheels. If done by the same exact manner, the notches will perfectly line up with the mark on the lock.
  • Carefully slide the latch button in an outward manner to release the clasp.
  • Check if unlocking was successful and open the luggage. Then, prepare for resetting your luggage pin code.
  • To Reset Luggage pin code, push and hold the button next to the lock inside the luggage.
  • Rotate the numbered wheels slowly one at a time to the new combination you picked (make sure you remember the pin this time) and release the button.
  • Make sure to test the new lock combination if it works. Try to open and close the luggage at least twice.
  • Write down your new lock combination code and store it away from your luggage.

Other Types of Luggage Locks

Other than the Combination Locks, here are the other types of luggage locks that you might need to get acquainted to:

  • Key Locks – the most traditional type of lock out of all the locks ever invented. A classic padlock that needs a specific key to open your luggage. Though it works quite well, the danger of losing the key is quite risky.
  • Cable Locks – this type of lock quite resembles the style of combination locks. The lock is more versatile though since it has a flexible cable that you can clip to lock. Other than luggages, the lock can hold other small storage or lockers safely.
  • Key Card Locks – works quite the same as hotel key cards. This type of lock not only works efficiently but is also convenient to store. You can keep it in your wallet as it fits perfectly just like your other personal cards.
  • Retractable Cable Locks – quite similar from cable locks but also has its unique mechanism. The cable conveniently retracts inside the lock itself. It also gives you the option to lock your luggage to another object for better security.

More Luggage Tips For You!

  • First of all, never open somebody else’s luggage with this travel hack. This was not written for that purpose. Make sure you will only use the step-by-step procedure only if it happens to you or to someone you know.
  • If remembering your luggage pin is too hard, write it down and store it in your passport or wallet. Store it away from your luggage as much as possible.
  • You may email your pin code combination to yourself and entitle it “My Luggage Pin Code” or however you want to call it. Open the email when you need it.
  • Download a “notes” app in your smartphone where you can write or record your pin code safely. Pick the one that you can set a password so it’s only you who could access.
  • Set a pin code combination similar to your personal cards or account passwords so you can easily remember your luggage pin code. But be sure to not share it to anyone to avoid hackers from going through your accounts.
  • While creating a unique pin code is important, a simple pin combination for example “222”, the ones that are easier to remember are also helpful.
  • Refrain from sharing your pin code to anyone else to avoid losing your valuables.

Forgetting your luggage pin combination is no joke, especially if you don’t have an idea on how to troubleshoot it. Imagine not being able to open your luggage in the middle of a holiday vacation. That just sucks!

This article is purely dedicated to all the travelers out there to avoid this situation to happen to you. It could be hard especially when you’re traveling alone.

Have you checked your luggage pin code yet? Go ahead and make sure you still remember or safekept the luggage combination before it’s too late.

Anyways, I hope this helpful travel hack finds you well. I wish you a safe and hassle-free travel as always!

how-to-set-code-on-suitcase

Introduction

Welcome to the world of travel, where exploring new destinations and experiencing different cultures awaits you. As you embark on your journey, it is essential to ensure that your belongings are safe and secure throughout your trip. One of the crucial aspects of travel is keeping your suitcase locked, and a code lock proves to be an ideal solution. In this article, we will guide you on how to set a code on your suitcase, providing you with the peace of mind that your belongings are protected.

A code lock offers several advantages over traditional key locks. It eliminates the risk of losing keys and allows you to easily remember your unique code combination. Additionally, it provides added security against theft, as code locks are usually more difficult to break than key locks. Whether you are a frequent traveler or preparing for your first trip, knowing how to set a code on your suitcase is an essential skill that will make your travel experience more convenient and worry-free.

In the following sections, we will take you through a step-by-step process of choosing a suitable code, setting up the initial code, resetting the code (if necessary), testing the code, and changing the code (if desired). By following these instructions, you will be able to secure your suitcase effectively and enjoy your journey with confidence.

Step 1: Choosing a Suitable Code

The first step in setting a code on your suitcase is choosing a suitable code. It is important to select a code that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess. Here are some tips to help you choose a suitable code:

  • Avoid obvious codes: Avoid using simple codes such as “1234” or “0000”, as these are the first codes that potential thieves may try.
  • Use a memorable combination: Choose a code based on a combination that has personal significance to you, such as your birthday, a memorable date, or a significant number in your life.
  • Avoid consecutive or repetitive numbers: Opt for a code that doesn’t have consecutive or repetitive numbers, as these patterns can be easily guessed.
  • Select a code that is not easily associated with you: Avoid using easily guessable codes like your phone number or address, as these can be linked to you and make your suitcase more vulnerable to theft.
  • Consider using a random combination: If you prefer a more secure option, consider using a random combination of numbers that you can easily memorize.

Remember, the goal is to choose a code that is both memorable for you and challenging for others to guess. Take your time to come up with a code that meets these criteria before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2: Setting Up the Initial Code

After choosing a suitable code for your suitcase, you can proceed to set up the initial code. Follow these steps to set the initial code on your suitcase:

  • Locate the code reset button: Look for a small button or lever on your suitcase’s lock mechanism. This button is usually located on the bottom or backside of the lock.
  • Press and hold the code reset button: Using a pen or a small tool, press and hold the code reset button. Hold it down until you complete the next step.
  • Choose your initial code combination: While holding the code reset button, set your desired initial code combination by turning the dials or buttons on the lock. Make sure to align each dial or button with the corresponding number of your chosen code.
  • Release the code reset button: Once you have set the initial code, release the code reset button. Ensure that the dials or buttons stay in place, securing your chosen code.

It is important to note that different suitcase models may have variations in the way the code reset button operates. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or guidelines specific to your suitcase to ensure you are following the correct procedure.

Once you have completed these steps, your initial code is set, and you can now proceed to lock and unlock your suitcase using the code combination you chose. Test the lock to ensure it is functioning correctly before relying on it to secure your belongings during your travels.

Step 3: Resetting the Code (if necessary)

If you need to change the code on your suitcase or if you forget your existing code, you can reset the code and set a new one. Follow these steps to reset the code on your suitcase:

  • Locate the code reset button: Similar to setting up the initial code, find the code reset button on your suitcase lock.
  • Press and hold the code reset button: Using a tool, press and hold the code reset button. Hold it down until you complete the next step.
  • Choose a new code combination: While holding the code reset button, select a new code combination by turning the dials or buttons on the lock.
  • Release the code reset button: Once you have set the new code, release the code reset button. Ensure that the dials or buttons firmly hold the new code.

It is essential to follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer for resetting the code on your particular suitcase model. Some suitcase locks require additional steps or combinations to reset the code successfully.

Resetting the code allows you to maintain the security of your suitcase by regularly updating the code or recovering access if you forget the existing one. Remember to choose a new code that meets the criteria mentioned in step 1 to ensure optimal security.

Step 4: Testing the Code

After setting or resetting the code on your suitcase, it is crucial to thoroughly test the code to ensure it is functioning correctly. Follow these steps to test the code on your suitcase:

  • Close the suitcase: Close your suitcase and ensure that the latch or zipper is securely fastened.
  • Enter the code combination: Turn the dials or press the buttons on the lock to enter the code combination you have set. Make sure to align each dial or button with the corresponding number of your code.
  • Test the lock: Once you have entered the code, apply gentle pressure to the lock to check if it securely holds the latch or zipper in place. Verify that the lock does not open or easily move when pressure is applied.
  • Repeat the test: Repeat the test multiple times to ensure the code is consistently working without any issues.

If the lock fails to hold the latch or zipper securely, double-check the alignment of the dials or buttons with the correct code numbers. If the issue persists, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or seek assistance to troubleshoot the problem.

Testing the code after setting or resetting it ensures that your suitcase is properly secured and prevents any unexpected surprises during your travels. Remember to always check the functionality of the lock before relying on it to secure your belongings.

Step 5: Changing the Code (if desired)

If you wish to change the code on your suitcase for added security or simply want to update it periodically, you can easily change the code following these steps:

  • Unlock your suitcase: Enter your current code combination to unlock your suitcase.
  • Locate the code change button: Look for a small button or lever on your suitcase lock that is specifically designated for changing the code.
  • Press and hold the code change button: Use a pen or a small tool to press and hold the code change button. Continue holding it down for the duration of the next step.
  • Select a new code combination: While holding the code change button, adjust the dials or press the buttons to set your desired new code combination. Ensure that each dial or button corresponds to the correct number of your new code.
  • Release the code change button: Once you have set the new code, release the code change button. Make sure that the dials or buttons securely hold the new code in place.

Changing the code regularly helps maintain the security of your belongings and decreases the chances of someone guessing your code. Ensure you follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer for changing the code on your particular suitcase model.

By changing the code periodically, you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your suitcase is protected by an updated and secure code combination.

But the password can be easily forgotten and neglected, so opening the suitcase is a more difficult thing. Rotate the three gears together so that the grooved part of each gear faces the outside.

Correct: Gear faces the outside.

Gear faces the inside.

Remember the number of the three gears when the groove part is on the outside.

As of now the code number of the three gears is 181.

How To Reset a Suitcase Lock: step 5, image 1 of 1

Add 5 to each of the three numbers. For example, my numbers are 181. After adding 5, the code to my lock would be 636.

Turn the numbers on the lock to 636, and then unlock the lock.

Sometimes the difference is not 5 from the grooved spots. In this case, you can try to increase the numbers after adding 5.

For example, if 636 does not work, try to add 6 to the three numbers. Then the code is 747 and attempt to unlock the lock. Continue to add 7, then 8 to try, until it can be opened.

When I added 8 and my number was 969, the lock unlocked. We successfully opened the suitcase!

After reading my guide, you will never encounter the problem that the suitcase cannot be opened without remembering the password. It can be solved anytime, anywhere.

Combination Locks: A Simple and Versatile Option

To set a combination lock, follow these steps: Determine your combination: Choose a unique and memorable combination consisting of three or four digits.

  • Reset the lock: Locate the reset button on the side or bottom of the lock and press it with a small tool, such as a pen. Hold the reset button while setting your desired combination.
  • Set your combination: Turn the dials to your chosen digits while holding the reset button. Release the reset button and test the lock by moving the zippers back and forth.

Keyed Locks: Traditional Security for Added Peace of Mind:

  • Insert the key into the lock: Insert the key into the lock and rotate it counterclockwise to unlock it.
  • Secure the lock: Insert the lock’s shackle through the zippers or designated lock holes on your safari bag. Rotate the key clockwise to secure the lock. Remove the key and test the lock by trying to open the bag.
