Seniors Discovery Tours

This was the most amazing experience I have ever had ....the only drawback to this Seniors Discovery Tour from Los Angles to Victoria, to Vancouver to Banff....was the cruise from LA to Victoria. The weather did not cooperate at all but this was certainly not the fault of the tour company! The visit to Victoria was perfect, the Vancouver leg of the journey was fautless, and the Rocky Mountaineer train ride was amazing to say nothing of the scenery! walking on the glacier was over the top!!

Hello SnookumsNoveScotia, We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed all aspects of your time with Rocky Mountaineer including the stunning scenery and glacier walk throughout the Canadian Rockies. It was a great pleasure having you onboard and we hope to see you again in the near future. Thank you very much for this five-star review. Kind regards, Ashley

Did Vancouver to Jasper via Kamloops on Silver Service; only the last hour or so of the two days were in the Rockies. It's quicker by road and there's hardly anything you'd miss. And freight trains up to 3 miles long take priority so you can sit in sidings for over an hour at a time.Nonetheless, great comfort and customer care, lovely and plentiful food and over-plentiful alcohol from 10 in the morning onwards (a few folk in our carriage didn't feel too well). DO NOT miss out on an independent bus trip from Jasper to Banff, though, that really was a Rocky Mountains adventure.

Hello suedeon, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Guest feedback is truly appreciated, as it is the key ingredient to improving our service, and exceeding our goal of creating life-changing memories. We do share the tracks with both CN and CP Rail, who own the rail lines on which we travel, and acknowledge your patience when giving priority to freight trains. It is lovely to read that you enjoyed the friendly service from your onboard hosts and gourmet cuisine prepared by our creative chefs. I hope that you are able to keep fond memories (and photographs!) of the beautiful Canadian Rockies. Kind regards, Ashley

We went from Vancouver to Whistler to Quesnel to Jasper. Rainforest to Goldrush. It was amazing. We celebrated my husbands 50th Birthday and were treated so well. We met wonderful people from all over the world. Food was spectacular, hosts were professional, fun, and very knowledgable. The view on Gold was so nice with the big windows. Lots of room and comfortable seats. Totally recommend this trip. Beautiful. Wildlife and scenery top notch.

Hello NadineToop123, Thank you for choosing to join us for your husbands 50th Birthday, it was a pleasure to celebrate with both of you! Your five-star review and recommendation are greatly appreciated. I hope that you keep lasting memories of the majestic wildlife, beautiful Mount Robson and the breathtaking milky glacier water ways. Kind regards, Ashley

I’ve now taken three Rocky Mountaineer trips each on a different line. One trip was on the SilverLeaf service and, while it was memorable and faultless, the two GoldLeaf journeys gave us memories to truly treasure. Our onboard hosts Zeb, Queenie, Kiki (Sandra Bullock) and the rest of the team really made our trip special. Thank you all.

Hello Leo F, We are thrilled that you were able to join us for the third time this season! As a team we want to truly thank you for your kind comments and recommendation. Zeb, Queenie, Kiki will be thrilled to hear that you enjoyed their attentive, friendly service. The Canadian Rockies are a rare gift to experience, and we hope that you can continue exploring them with us in seasons to come. Kind regards, Ashley

Really looked forward to this trip, but big disappointment. We did the "Gold leaf"upgrade but it hardly mattered. The amenities on the train were pretty meager. The major problem with this trip was that the train got stopped so often that by the time we got to our hotels, it was very late at night. Also because you are traveling through forests, it was difficult to actually see anything. So don't bother with this trip.

Hello sepetit2018, We are so sorry to hear that the journey did not live up to your expectations. We strive to not only meet but, exceed guest expectations by creating life-changing memories for each and every one of our guests. Your feedback is appreciated and will be taken into consideration. I hope that you are able to keep fond memories of the raw and beautiful Canadian Rockies. Kind regards, Ashley

Spent 2 days on board this fabulous train and loved every minute. We were looked after si well by our hosts Eric and Brandee. I would recommend adding this to your bucket list.

Hello JRgeel, We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your recent two-day journey with us. I will pass your kind comments along to Eric and Brandee, as I am sure they will love to hear from you. The Canadian Rockies are a truly magical experience and we are so pleased that you could come and explore them with us this season. Kind regards, Ashley

Senior Discovery Tours: Reviews

Fantastic experience: Tour Manager was fantastic, very knowledgeable, helpful and fun! Office staff have been very friendly and willing to help. Loved the Tour in Sicily.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I just returned from a trip to South Africa,Zimbabwe and Botswana. From beginning to end this trip was magnificent. The success was due to the excellent tour management of Barbara Barde and the in country tour guides Peter and Juanita. I can only say that this company has never disappointed us. It was only my second tour and my wife’s fourth. We will travel with SDT as long as we can

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and great selection of tours.

Fantastic experience: Best ever

Positive experience: This was our eighth trip with Senior Discovery tours (Italian Riviera and Tuscany), and the last two, since the pandemic, have been disappointing. From long airport layovers in Paris, to hotels that are not first-class, to too many so-so dinners in these hotels, to excursions that are long and tiring for seniors, my husband and I feel that the quality of this company's tours have slipped. SeniDiscovery Your trips is no longer exceptional. We did enjoy the company of

Fantastic experience: Small park and community center surrounded by nice neighborhoods. Kool place and nice peaceful people.

Positive experience: I recently went on my third trip with Senior Discovery Tours to the Maritimes. I really enjoyed the trip . . . from the beginning to the end. . . Our tour guide, Barbara Barde worked hard at ensuring that we were organized and saw everything. Fantastic!

Positive experience: Really enjoyed the trip to Greece. Sandra Wood, our tour director was professional, friendly, caring and fun! I found the local tour guides in Athens were very passionate about the history and archeology of the sites, but it was very in depth and too detailed, a lot to absorb. They did not read their audience well as most were overwhelmed and very tired. A simple, interesting and abbrieviated version of the ruin sites would have made it more enjoyable. Days were very long and tiring in Athens. The island of Crete was my favourite, Santorini and Mykanos were lovely. Hotels were superior. Food was excellent throughout. I have travelled with Senior Discovery Tours at least 6 times previously. Just returned from Canary Island's trip this year before heading on the Greek adventure. My very favourite was the first one I took ... South Africa ... but I was 10 years younger then!

Fantastic experience: The Dubai/Persian Gulf Cruise was our first tour/experience with SDT. SDT did not disappoint us. SDT was recommended by a friend who travelled with the company. We were 3 couples (20 travelers in total on the tour); our group of 6 all agreed the tour was far beyond expectations. From the arrival at the airport, accommodation, meals, tour manager, tour guide, tour bus/driver ALL excellent. Our tour manager, Ruby, was amazing. She was always available to ensure all services as advertised were delivered and kept the group up to date on our itinerary, times of pick-up etc. Ruby made herself available to respond to any questions on the accommodation, tours, etc. It was a pleasure to be in her company both professionally and “off-duty”. Our tour guide in Dubai, Faheem, was very courteous, punctual, accommodating, deeply knowledgeable on the history, culture, architecture, etc. of Dubai and the UAE. He has a good command of English and spoke in a polite and confident manner. There are average tour guides, and there are guides you remember forever, Faheem falls in the latter category. The Costa Toscana cruise of the tour was also very well organized (check-in/check-out), group dinners, cocktail night organized by Ruby on the ship etc. Again, Ruby was present to ensure the group had an enjoyable time and memorable experience. The Entertainment on this ship was fantastic and enjoyable; excellent variety for all age groups. We understand SDT have no control regarding service on Air Canada flights, maybe other airlines should/could be considered for this destination/future tours.

Fantastic experience: Loved it, well run company...our Tour Manager, Daryl Dutton was absolutely awesome!!! Definitely recommmend!!

Fantastic experience: I called Senior Discovery Tours to inquire about a tour for my parents as I wanted to get them a special anniversary gift for their 50th this year. They havent travelled much in the past so I felt more comfortable getting them a guided tour. I told them my dad had a hip replacement last year and they were super understanding and helpful. The agent was very nice and recommended a less active tour and gave a few options. I think I'm going to go with the Norwegian cruise and I think they will love it. I can't thank this company enough for being so nice and helpful!

Fantastic experience: Excellent! Only 5 stars.....I would give them 6 Traveled toNewfoundland & Labrador with Senior Discovery. Our tour guide Margaret Mueller and driver Gary couldn’t do enough for us.

Fantastic experience: Doing a great job looking forward to working with you guys on a safari to kenya

Fantastic experience: There were 16 of us travelled to the Holy Land on 14 Nov- 17 Nov with Sandra Wood, our Tour Manager. It was trip of a lifetime for me making this journey on behalf of my late husband. Sandra was awesome as a manager, calm and caring. Nothing was too much for her to handle on our behalf. Gil, our Tour guide in Israel was very informative and worked well with Sandra in all aspect of our tour. He is a great guy and got us hooked eating the fat juicy dates, practically on a daily basis!! The group got on very well and we had lots of fun and laughter especially at our evening meal times. Swimming in the Dead Sea was exhilarating!! Lots of history learned on this tour. In my opinion, the single supplement at $2,290.00 was too much for a single person. However, I enjoyed my trip as it is filled with great memories and friendship made within the group. Sandra, you are a good person. Hopefully, will crossed path again with future tours. I have rebooked tour for Spain and Portugal for March 1-21 as the earlier dates were cancelled. Too bad I will not make it for Greece in April. Wishing you and your family A Merry Christmas. Mrs. Jenni Gordon

Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism , Quality , Responsiveness , Value

Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism , Quality

Positive experience: Covid has had a drastic effect on the travel industry. Our experience in early 2020 with two tour operators (SDT and rocky mountaineer) demonstrates how well they responded to cancellations. We cancelled our trip with SDT 4 weeks before the scheduled departure and received most of our funds. We cancelled our trip with Rocky 5 months prior to departure and lost 50% of the deposit (check out user postings for verification). In our situation timing obviously made all the difference. We will be using SDT when conditions allow. Rocky on the other hand not in our life time.

Fantastic experience: Positive: Value

Fantastic experience: I had wonderful trips with this company. They always deliver.

Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism , Quality , Responsiveness

Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism , Value

Fantastic experience: 6 trips with them and all lived up to expectations

Fantastic experience: Amazing tour company

Fantastic experience: Our experience with Senior Discovery Tours was fantastic from start to finish. Our Tour Manager, Patrick Caria, went above and beyond at every turn. He was experienced and knowledgeable, patient and informative. The tour itself was well designed and as advertised. We feel we were treated very well, learned and saw so much of Italy, and that we got great value for our money. We will definitely consider traveling with Senior Discovery Tours on our next adventure.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I just got back from a trip with Senior Tours and, let me just say this, it is the ONLY way to travel. It is stress-free from start to finish and that's exactly what we wanted. We were literally away on the current trip already planning our next trip. Many thanks for the amazing experience!

Fantastic experience: All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you! We wanted an amazing experience and that is absolutely what we received from start to finish. Everything was so stress-free and easy. A true pleasure to work with. I'll be back for another trip soon!

Fantastic experience: Senior Tours is truly a pleasure to work with. They are completely committed to providing a stress-free travel experience. The customer service is first rate, as I asked a lot of questions, and they took the time to make sure I had all the answers.

Fantastic experience: Had an amazing trip and experience. Recommend Senior Discovery Tours to anyone who wants to be well taken care of.

Fantastic experience: An excellent experience from start to finish. When booking the trip, the team at Senior Discovery Tours were all so friendly and made sure my wife and I were well taken care of. The trip itself...there are no words to describe just how amazing it was. We had high hopes and they were vastly exceeded. We're already looking forward to our next tour.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I cannot say enough great things about Senior Discovery Tours. The booking and everything leading up to the trip was excellent. The trip itself was stellar! Everyone we encountered from the company was super friendly and a pleasure to deal with. We can't wait for our next trip, we're just trying to figure out where we want to go. Thanks Senior Tours!

Hi.....looking for recent reviews on tours offered by Senior Discovery Tours.

Did the tour meet your expectations? Value for your money? Overall experience? Would you recommend this company?

What tour did you take?

Is hard to find any recent reviews....so thank you for replying!

We did the South Africa and the India tours with Senior Disc Tours and they were great. Very knowledgeable guides which includes one head guide from the SDT company that ensures that the clients needs are met. Hotels were excellent 4 stars and security/safety was always on their mind. As to cost, we compared with other tours and with planning our own and costs were pretty well equal considering that SDT are all inclusive. To give you an example on both trips we spent a total of about $200 which was on souvenirs.

I recommend them highly.

Thank You so much for your input. I kinda figured that SDT was a respectable company, I wanted confirmation.

Glad you enjoyed your adventures

Travel Map

We depart for New York, where we will overnight near JFK airport.

Morning departure for Johannesburg.

We arrive in Johannesburg and transfer to our Hotel. This evening we enjoy Welcome Cocktails and our Welcome Dinner.

We start with a tour of Johannesburg and a visit to the Apartheid Museum. In the afternoon we visit the township of Soweto - the most populous black residential area in the country. Soweto sets the trends for South Africa in politics, fashion, music and dance. You will never forget your visit here.

We fly to Victoria Falls and transfer to our lovely lodge hotel. This evening we enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River and dinner will be a special African experience.

We enjoy a morning tour of the Falls - a sight to behold! We then proceed to our safari lodge near Chobe National Park - home to a wide variety of wildlife, including hippo and elephants that troll the river paths to drink. We take our first game cruise in the late afternoon.

On our morning game drive we enjoy the wonderful surroundings of wild Africa! In the afternoon we take a boat ride along the river and get up close with the bounty of Chobe as we view herds of Kudu, waterbuck and possibly elephants coming to the river to drink.

We fly from Victoria Falls back to Johannesburg, and then proceed to our hotel en route to Kruger National Park.

We proceed to Kruger National Park for wildlife viewing at its best! The park offers an experience in beauty, tranquility and variety not found anywhere else in the world. En route we visit the majestic Blyde River Canyon to see God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes - true natural wonders! Our hotel is located just outside the Park.

A full day of game viewing in open safari vehicles. We start early in the morning, the best time to find the world's largest variety of wildlife including the Big Five (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo), hippo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra and crocodile. The park is also home to more than 400 bird species.

A morning at leisure to enjoy the various activities at the hotel. Relax by the pool, do some game or bird watching or take a nature walk. Later we depart for our evening game drive to see if we can catch some nocturnal animals in the spotlight. Dinner this evening is under African skies.

We return to Johannesburg for our flight to George, on South Africa's fabled Garden Route.

Today we visit a local Township for a chance to meet the children at a primary school. We then take a ferry ride to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, dedicated to the protection of the flora of the Garden Route. We enjoy a sumptuous lunch at the reserve. Dinner is at a special seafood restaurant.

We travel over the mountains to Oudtshoorn to visit an ostrich farm where those who wish may ride one! Then we visit the Cango Caves, whose beauty will leave a lasting impression.

A full day at leisure to enjoy the peaceful ambiance and lovely waterfront area of the quaint seaside resort town of Knysna. Tonight we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Our Garden Route drive takes us along the coast, around lakes, mountains, golden beaches and cliffs - an enchanting drive with a romantic history. We arrive in Cape Town and take a cable car ride up Table Mountain for panoramic views.

Our city tour shows us the Malay Quarter, the Botanical Gardens and more. Afternoon at leisure to shop and people watch at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront area.

A Winelands tour through lovely scenery of vineyards, oak shaded rivers and old Dutch colonial homes. We enjoy a tasting in a wine cellar and lunch at a private estate. In Stellenbosch we visit the Village Museum.

A full-day tour to Cape Point. After a boat ride to Seal Island we continue south to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, where we see the colonies of seals and penguins in their natural environment. Tonight is our Farewell Dinner.

Time at leisure to explore this beautiful city on your own, before our afternoon departure to the airport for our flight home.

We change planes in New York and continue our journey back to Canada.

Tour operator, senior discovery tours.

Founded in:

Senior Discovery Tours is the company you hoped existed. We manage the details so you enjoy the destinations.

Founded in 1975, we’re Canada’s largest operator of guided tours for the mature traveller, offering more than 100 different international tours and cruises that deliver outstanding service, value and discovery.

1. Experience freedom from care

The comment we hear most from our travellers is how carefree our tours are. We manage all the details, big and small, so you can enjoy your holiday without any of the hassles normally associated with travel. Flights, hotels, meals, baggage handling at hotels, transportation and sightseeing excursions are all included. And in most Canadian cities, we’ll even pick you up and drop you off at home.

2. Tour Managers you can count on

Our travellers always rave about our Tour Managers. They attend to every detail, ensuring your trip runs smoothly. For instance, at hotels they’ll check you in and out, tip the staff on your behalf and keep track of your luggage. Their energetic approach to travel enlivens every tour, and their experience prepares them to gracefully and expertly handle unexpected situations. Our Tour Managers are also expert at creating a positive group dynamic so that everyone enjoys a great sense of camaraderie.

3. Enjoy a more leisurely trip

Most of our multi-stop tours stay in each locale for at least two days, and our “stay-put” holidays allow you to settle into one or two hotels for the entire duration of the tour. You’ll have plenty of time to explore, shop and take it all in at your own pace.

4. Put your mind at ease

On most tours, daily breakfast and dinner, and sometimes even lunch, are included in the price. Most meals are pre-arranged so you never have to worry about finding a restaurant in a strange place. As well, all of the hotels we use have been personally inspected to ensure quality and value.

5. No surprise costs

The price of every tour covers all costs, including all taxes, travel insurance, tipping, baggage handling at hotels and of course pre-arranged excursions and entertainment (which other tour companies charge extra for). The price is guaranteed in Canadian dollars and there are never any hidden surcharges.

Newfoundland Adventure: Eastbound Tour

Newfoundland Adventure: Eastbound

My Husband and I truly enjoyed the small group of 9 . Any more than this wouldn't have felt like a family. Our group gelled well. The van would not be big enough if more persons were in the group. Highly recommend NOT to have a larger group for other tours. Everyone was interested in everything we did and saw. Everyone was at the same level of ability and agility. Our Tour guide Simon was very flexible with options if weather wasn't in our favour. Would recommend Simon for other tours. He was very knowledgable on our Newfoundland tour.

Scenic Wonders of Newfoundland and Labrador (14 Days) Tour

Scenic Wonders of Newfoundland and Labrador (14 Days)

Overall it was very good the attractions we went to see were very good. Any time we had a Park guide they were top notch very knowledgeable and entertaining. Suggestions and my opinion: - St Pierre was very interesting and the meal was by far our best. The drive down is very scenic but long. Then with the waiting to board, ferry ride, customs with a repeat of the same the next day meant a lot of time waiting, not sure it was worth it. - Either hire a local guide for our city tour in St Johns to do the commentary or have all Trafalgar guides do the hop-on-off bus for one tour to get all the information and local tidbits of the history. - Highly suggest in the brochure to come in a day earlier to see and enjoy the sights of St Johns -Needed more time at the Vikings site, start earlier, or have less time allotted for lunch. This attraction could easily be a full afternoon. -Seemed very rushed in Trinity after the local historian tour would be nice to have a complete hour to ourselves to explore and walk around. -Would far rather of had the Viking Feast dinner rather than the Breakfast - It might be worth considering the ferry ride to Labrador moving back a day. We were very lucky on our return back to NFLD the weather turned nasty and the rest of the day all other ferries were canceled. Had we not made this trip and then been stuck in Labrador for the day we would of all missed our flight home. -Possibly add Corner Brook seemed like a beautiful city

Newfoundland & Labrador with Iceberg Festival Tour

Newfoundland & Labrador with Iceberg Festival

I had wanted to see Newfoundland icebergs since reading about them in the Weekly Reader in grade school. I know it's often luck you see them but we did. It was a bumper year and our guide knew where to look. We also saw Puffins in two locations, Norse ruins, whales, moose, caribou and beautiful forests and geology..

East Coast Trail Tour

East Coast Trail

The people involved, food and accommodations were excellent. We found the trails much more difficult than expected. In some areas the trails were poorly maintained and dangerous. Jamie was fantastic and extremely helpful. We were a little disappointed when we found out our end of trip transfer to the airport was not covered and yet all emails I received from Shawn said it was. It would have been beneficial for us to have the option some of easier trails. Even a rest day after a long trail day would have been good. The received phone guide maps were awesome and really well done. In saying the above, we had a wonderful time and are proud of our acheivements. We are not sure we would consider another tour.
