Skillet, formed in 1996, are an American Christian rock band hailing from Memphis, Tennessee. The band were tanked in the Hardest Working Bands of 2011 due to their intense touring schedule.
The band, consisting of the married couple John and Korey Cooper, lead vocals, bass, and rhythm guitar, keys, and backing vocals respectively, have sold well over 2million albums in the US. Their other band members, Seth Morrison and Jen Ledger fill in the sound with drums, vocals, and lead guitar. With eight studio albums under their belt, the band have been nominated for several awards, including Grammy nominations, and their album Awake placed at number 2 on the Billboard 200 as it entered the chart, and their album Comatose was certified Gold.
Although the band have been through several line up changes, they have remained consistent and haven’t slowed their intense touring schedule. Band members Cooper and Sterots who formed the original line up met through tours with their own bands and began collaborating before forming the first generation of Skillet. Over the years, throughout the changes, the bands sound has developed and evolved, but maintains their original undertones, never straying from their Christian rock vibe and message.
The crossover of Christian music and rock makes the sound accessible to the masses, and has gained the band much credibility and critical acclaim over the years. As well as headlining their own tours, the band have toured alongside other artists such as Three Days Grace and Seether.
Live reviews
Ever been to a Skillet concert?
I have!!!! Last year at Soulfest 2013 the last night my friend Kim and I went and I have to say I loved it and enjoyed their energy. Playing under the stars in Gilford New Hampshire they were on fire. There were 10,000 screaming people there, people even brought skillets!!!!! They have excellent pyro they set off during their songs but that is not all, they reach people who believe in God and who might be struggling with their belief. Some of the songs they sang off their new album called Rise were American Noise, and Sick of it. American Noise was my favorite song because they set off fireworks over the stage. Some of the other songs they played were awake and alive and rebirthing which they also used pyro for, but their main focus isn't about setting off pyro every night or how good it looks, it is about God and reaching people of all ages. Skillet has eight albums out, two of them receiving Grammy nominations. They were formed in Memphis Tennessee. If you have not been to a Skillet concert then I recommend you go to one and enjoy the show! I did.

Skillet was amazing. They featured a surprisingly intense guitar playing, and their addition of violin and cello was awesome. They opened up with 'Hero' (my fave song) and closed with another great hit. They were the first band I ever saw to use pyrotechnics, which was impressive. I was not as big of a fan of the proselytizing between songs, or the slower songs in the middle of the set, as their singer really can't sing melodic songs that well (which he admits) not that it stops him. I'd enjoy them more on a non-religious bill (like maybe Uproar Fest) more since hearing preaching was a waste of my time as a non-religious fan of their music.
Hello Everybody,
GO SEE SKILLET LIVE!!
Or more specific:
It was my son’s first concert. I’d never heard of Skillet before. It’s the type of music I like so he let me hear a few songs. Not bad. When I sam them live yesterday I was like wow!
The band has so much energy and power.
It’s firework on stage!! You can’t miss the frontman!!! Nice interactions with all the people. The band is a must see. Big compliments to the female drummer. She is fantastic!!! Any chance they might wanna perform in Metropool at Hengelo Ov.
skillet was amazing i really enjoyed it they played all there songs amazingly like usual and at the end they walked off stage and we all chanted for them to come back and they did i really like it when they played my favriote song resistance overall i rate them a 10/10 for there gig at sydney opera house i did go to the winterfest 2017 were they played and i have been to a couple of there concerts in america they are a reallly amazing and talented band they and john cooper really involves the crowd
Went to the show not really having any expectations but left impressed. The band had great energy on stage and the flowed through to the crowd. During songs like Monster the whole floor was jumping, which from the balcony was really cool to watch.
Also, first show at the venue and was really impressed. Nice intimate venue where you can get a good view of the stage from almost anywhere.
All in all a great show in a great venue, would definitely do it again and recommend it to others.
Skillet sounded amazing live! They played good songs, introduced me to some of their songs I'd never heard before, and performed a lot of old favorites as well. I loved the songs with the cello and piano in them, that was a creative idea on their part. John, Korey, Jen, and Seth are extremely talented people and I'm glad I got to go see them perform live. I'll definitely go to one of their concerts again if I get the chance. :)
The group was great. Impressive energy and Good feeling with the audience. The organisation was the worst I have seen. Only one entry with 3 people.1to check the ticket and 2 for security check. Which resulted in an never-ending queue. Inside no place for children So if you want to bring your child to a concert don't go there. And in the end the people there were very unfriendly. That was my last concert there.
I have never seen Skillet live before. I have listened to their music for years so I was hoping that they would be good, but instead they were great, exciting and put on a very amazing and energetic show! I hope to see them again many more times in concert. Everyone in the group sounds and plays just like they do on their records, nobody has lost their original voice or instrumental talent.
I saw Skillet on the Carnival of Madness tour in 2013 and they did an amazing job! It's hard to compete with performances from Papa Roach and Shinedown, but Skillet made all panheads proud with their performance! Elevating platforms with a screen that played their music videos in the background! Plus the violinists looked awesome! I am looking forward to my next Skillet concert now!
I'm a huge fan of skillet and the music was good my only issue is the security many people were drunk off there ass and smoking weed security should have did something kids were at this concert and the security was extremely rude if skillet ever comes to CT it shouldn't be at the Xfinity theater

SKILLET is one of the best-selling rock bands of the 21st century. The two-time Grammy Award -nominated Pandora Billionaires Club members and multi-platinum rockers have an undying spirit that has humbly asserted an affirmed them as one of this generation's most successful rock acts. However, as all classic underdog stories do, it happened quietly under the radar. By 2019, they not only garnered a pair of Grammy Award nods and sold over 17 million albums worldwide, but they also took home a Billboard Music Award for the double-platinum "Awake" . Its breakout single "Monster" is five times platinum and remains "one of the most-streamed rock songs of all-time." 2016's "Unleashed" bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Hitting No. 1 on Rock Radio, the lead single "Feel Invincible" cracked 643 million global audio streams and went double platinum. Meanwhile, the gold-certified "Unleashed" became their fourth consecutive album to achieve gold, platinum, or double-platinum status. Their 2019 release "Victorious" included the Top 10 rock radio hit "Legendary" , which lived up to its name with over 108 million streams. To date, nine original tunes earned RIAA recognition in tandem with high-profile syncs by everyone from WWE and Marvel to ESPN and NFL . Between selling out arenas in 26 countries and four continents, the group performed on "Conan" and graced the pages of USA Today and The New York Times . SKILLET debuted their first graphic novel, "Eden: A Skillet Graphic Novel" with Z2 Comics , which became the publisher's best-selling book of all time, followed by "Eden II: The Aftermath" . SKILLET 's latest project, "Dominion" , is one of the highest-charting rock and metal albums of 2022.
THEORY OF A DEADMAN released its latest album, "Dinosaur" , in March via Roadrunner .
"Dinosaur" , THEORY OF A DEADMAN 's follow-up to 2020's acclaimed album "Say Nothing" , was produced by Martin Terefe ( Jason Mraz , YUNGBLUD ) and recorded in Sweden at Atlantis Studios , made famous by ABBA . The 10-track collection showcases THEORY 's signature wit on "Two Of Us (Stuck)" , a breezy piano-laden breakup bop that takes a hard left from the refrain of the Grover Washington, Jr. and Bill Withers classic "Just The Two Of Us" . Elsewhere on the album is the gritty "Medusa (Stone)" and the aggressive "Get In Line" .
THEORY OF A DEADMAN is Tyler Connolly (lead vocals, guitar), Dave Brenner (guitar, backing vocals), Dean Back (bass) and Joey Dandeneau (drums, backing vocals).

CONCERT REVIEW: SKILLET; THEORY OF A DEADMAN (AGORA THEATER; 03.03.23)
The Rock Resurrection Tour has made its way onto the stage of Cleveland’s Agora Theater for a Friday night to remember (March 3, 2023). The face-melting force of Saint Asonia followed by co-headliners Theory of a Deadman and Skillet (in that order) called for a night of horns in the air and bones rattling to the core. Fans from near and far endured the pouring rain to experience a show they won’t soon forget! Canadians know how to rock. That’s all that needs to be said. After a set from Saint Asonia, who hails from our neighbor to the north, fellow Canucks Theory of a Deadman hit the stage. Over two decades ago Theory set out to deliver tight percussion, catchy guitar riffs, groovy basslines, and earworm-worthy lyrics, and it’s safe to say that is exactly what they’ve been doing ever since.
Entering to a recording of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” Theory kicked off the night with “Ambulance” and immediately followed with their top-15 hit, “Bitch Came Back.” Mixing their set with career-spanning discography including tunes from their upcoming release, ‘Dinousar,’ (due out March 17) and their 2x Platinum record: ‘Scars & Souvenirs,’ every fan in the room was satisfied with their taste of Theory.
Theory has accumulated more hit singles over the past 20+ years than one might realize. Early highlights from the setlist included “Not Meant to Be” (a platinum-selling tune despite lacking in significant radio airplay) and chart-topper “History of Violence.”
Their set ended with a triple-dose of hits, the relatable anthem “Hate My Life,” followed by “RX (Medicate)” and set-closer “Bad Girlfriend” (introduced with a snippet from Guns N’ Roses “Paradise City” ). Fans were simultaneously satisfied while still wanting more.
Christian Rock has never been hotter with Skillet in the mix. The two-guy/two-gal outfit fronted by John Cooper , also includes his wife, Korey Cooper (rhythm guitar), English drummer Jen Ledger , and Ohio native Seth Morrison on lead guitar.
Skillet debuted on the Christian Rock circuit in 1996 and has outlasted almost all their peers, including powerhouses such as The OC Supertones, Audio Adrenaline, and DC Talk.
An anthem for many, the roar of the opening chords to “Feel Invincible” (from their 2016 release, ‘Unleashed ‘) truly had the fans feeling nothing but! Cooper had every person in the venue, from the diehards in the front row to the ones leaving for a smoke break, in the palm of his hand, and he knew it. The way that drummer, “Smilin’” Jen Ledger’s voice compliments Cooper’s is out of this world and honestly one of a kind. It’s not very often you have a band represent a minority in metal -women- and have them sound as raw and intoxicating as both Ledger and Mrs. Cooper do! The risers that turned the band into floating metal warriors were brought out for the hits like “Psycho in My Head” and “Not Gonna Die .”
Skillet blew the roof off The recently-renovated Agora with “Whispers in the Dark” and the title track from their 2006 release, ‘Comatose.’
Toward the end of the evening, Skillet recalled Saint Asonia’s Adam Gontier to the stage to join them in a performance of “Finish Line.” Gontier served as a nice compliment on this particular number and was met with a warm reception upon resurfacing onstage.
Before saying ‘goodnight,’ Skillet played “Monster,” (the defacto theme song for Cleveland’s minor league hockey team) and closed with back-to-back fan favorites, “Rebirthing” and “ The Resistance. “
No matter one’s religion, creed, spiritual views, etc., it is refreshing to watch an act so passionate about their own beliefs.
Saint Asonia, a well-known rock supergroup from Toronto, Canada, was definitely the best opener that could have been booked. It was as if all three bands were headlining the evening once singer, Adam Gontier (founding member and former frontman of Three Days Grace), had begun to bellow out Three Days Grace and Apocalyptica throwback jams as an homage to his roots. The crowd felt the fire and fanned the flames as soon as “I Hate Everything About You” had come screeching through the speakers.

However, as all classic underdog stories do, it happened quietly under the radar. By 2019, they not only garnered a pair of GRAMMY® Award nods and sold over 17 million albums worldwide, but they also took home a Billboard Music Award for the double-platinum Awake.
Its breakout single “Monster” is 5x platinum and remains “one of the most-streamed rock songs of all-time.” 2016’s Unleashed bowed at #3 on the Billboard Top 200. Hitting #1 on Rock Radio, the lead single “Feel Invincible” cracked 643 million global audio streams and went double platinum. Meanwhile, the gold-certified Unleashed became their fourth consecutive album to acheive gold, platinum, or double-platinum status.
Their 2019 release Victorious included the top ten rock radio hit “Legendary,” which lived up to its name with over 108 million streams. To date, nine original tunes earned RIAA recognition in tandem with high-profile syncs by everyone from WWE and Marvel to ESPN and NFL. Between selling out arenas in 26 countries and four continents, the group performed on CONAN and graced the pages of USA Today and The New York Times.
Skillet debuted their first graphic novel, EDEN: A Skillet Graphic Novel with Z2 Comics, which became the publisher’s best-selling book of all time, followed by EDEN II: The Aftermath. Three classics — spaghetti carbonara, Venetian shrimp, and chicken salmoriglio — that offer a tour of Italy
Milk street sends you on a roman holiday, without leaving the house..
From the bustling streets of Rome to the canals of Venice to the sun-drenched coasts of Sicily and Calabria, these dishes bring the flavors of Italy to your kitchen. For our spaghetti carbonara, we learned to lighten up the Roman classic by using whisked egg yolks to create an airy foam that melds with pecorino Romano cheese to create a creamy sauce. Next, our quick-yet-elegant skillet dish captures the essence of the Veneto region with succulent shrimp and a garlicky tomato sauce, finished with a sprinkling of toasted bread crumbs. Finally, we dress chicken in bright Mediterranean flavors with an herby, citrusy sauce made from lemons caramelized on the grill.
Roman Spaghetti Carbonara
Makes 4 servings
This brighter take on carbonara came from Pipero Roma in Rome, where the chef whisked the egg yolks until cooked and slightly foamy, creating a sauce that is much lighter in texture than most carbonara recipes. Mixing the yolks with water and cornstarch ensures the cheese won’t clump up when tossed with the pasta.
Bacon cannot be substituted for the pancetta. The smokiness of the bacon will overwhelm the cleaner flavors of the egg-based sauce.
3 ounces thinly sliced pancetta, chopped
6 large egg yolks
2 teaspoons cornstarch
6 ounces pecorino Romano cheese, finely grated (3 cups), plus more to serve
12 ounces spaghetti
Kosher salt and ground black pepper
In a 10-inch skillet set over medium heat, cook the pancetta, stirring, until crisp, about 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Measure out and reserve 3 tablespoons of the rendered fat; if needed, supplement with olive oil. Set the pancetta and fat aside.
In a large pot, bring 4 quarts water to a boil. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, whisk 1¾ cups water, the egg yolks, and the cornstarch until smooth. Add the cheese and stir until evenly moistened. Set the pan over medium-low heat and cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes to a gentle simmer and is airy and thickened, 5 to 7 minutes; use a silicone spatula to occasionally get into the corners of the pan. Off heat, whisk in the reserved pancetta fat. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Stir the pasta and 1 tablespoon salt into the boiling water and cook until al dente. Reserve about ½ cup of the cooking water, then drain the pasta very well. Return the pasta to the pot and let cool for about 1 minute.
Pour the pecorino-egg mixture over the pasta and toss with tongs until well combined, then toss in pepper. Let stand, tossing the pasta two or three times, until most of the liquid has been absorbed, about 3 minutes. Crumble in the pancetta, then toss again. The pasta should be creamy but not loose. If needed, toss in up to 2 tablespoons reserved pasta water to adjust the consistency. Transfer to a warmed serving bowl and serve, passing more pecorino and pepper on the side.
Venetian-Style Shrimp in Tomato-White Wine Sauce
From the coast of Veneto, Italy, gamberi alla busara is a dish of whole shell-on prawns in a garlicky tomato sauce spiked with white wine. For this weeknight version, we use shelled shrimp, but we prefer them jumbo-size (21 to 25 shrimp per pound) so the dish has heft and substance.
Browning shrimp on both sides can cause them to become rubbery and overdone in the finished dish. Instead, we sear only one side to develop flavor from caramelization, not to fully cook the shrimp. They will finish cooking in the sauce at the end.
Some recipes for gamberi alla busara include bread crumbs that thicken the sauce. We, however, prefer to toast some panko bread crumbs and sprinkle them on top to add crispiness and texture.
Serve with warm crusty bread for dipping into the sauce.
5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
½ cup panko bread crumbs
8 tablespoons finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, divided
1½ pounds jumbo tail-on (21-25 per pound) shrimp, peeled and deveined, patted dry
6 medium garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1 medium shallot, finely chopped
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
½ cup dry white wine
28-ounce can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand
In a 12-inch nonstick skillet set over medium-high heat, heat 2 tablespoons of oil until it shimmers. Add the panko and cook, stirring often, until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl and stir in 2 tablespoons of parsley and ¼ teaspoon each salt and black pepper; set aside.
In the same skillet set over medium-high heat, warm 1 tablespoon of the oil until it shimmers. Add half the shrimp in an even layer and cook without disturbing until golden brown on the bottoms, 1 to 2 minutes; transfer to a large plate. Repeat with another 1 tablespoon oil and the remaining shrimp; set the shrimp aside.
In the same skillet set over medium-high, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon oil until it shimmers. Add the garlic, shallot, and pepper flakes, then cook, stirring constantly, until the garlic is light golden brown, about 30 seconds. Add the wine and cook, stirring, until the liquid has almost evaporated, 30 to 60 seconds. Add the tomatoes with juices and ¼ teaspoon salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is slightly thickened, 6 to 7 minutes.
Add the shrimp and accumulated juices to the pan, along with the remaining 6 tablespoons parsley. Cook, stirring, until the shrimp are opaque throughout, 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with the toasted bread crumbs.
Grilled Chicken Salmoriglio
Extra virgin olive oil, lemon, garlic, and herbs constitute salmoriglio, a sauce/marinade from southern Italy (specifically, Calabria and Sicily). Grilling the lemons before juicing them mellows their sharpness and acidity, adding a subtle sweetness to the sauce. Our version is made with grated zest in the marinade; we then add the juice to finish the sauce just before serving.
If you opt to use a mixture of bone-in chicken breasts and thighs or drumsticks (or leg quarters), keep in mind that the white meat is done at 160 degrees and the dark meat at 175 degrees, so the breasts may finish ahead of the legs.
Use tongs rather than a fork to move the chicken pieces on the grill. A fork creates holes that allow juices to escape, resulting in drier meat.
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
2 medium garlic cloves, finely grated
1 teaspoon dried oregano, crumbled
3 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken parts, trimmed
¼ cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
Grate 2 teaspoons zest from the lemons, then halve them crosswise and set aside. In a small bowl, stir together the zest, oil, garlic, oregano, 1¼ teaspoons salt, and ½ teaspoon pepper. Transfer ¼ cup of the mixture to a large bowl, add the chicken, and turn to coat. Marinate at room temperature while preparing the grill.
Prepare a charcoal or gas grill for indirect cooking.
For a charcoal grill, ignite a large chimney of coals, let burn until lightly ashed over, then distribute the coals evenly over one side of the grill bed and open the bottom grill vents. Heat the grill, covered, for 5 minutes, then clean and oil the cooking grate.
For a gas grill, turn all burners to high and heat, covered, for 15 minutes, then clean and oil the cooking grate; leave the primary burner on high and turn the remaining burner(s) to low.
Place the chicken skin side up on the cooler side of the grill. Cover and cook for 15 minutes. Using tongs, reposition the chicken so that the pieces farthest from the fire are now closest; keep the chicken skin side up. Re-cover and continue to cook until the thickest part of the breast, if using, reaches 160 degrees or the thickest parts of the thighs and drumsticks, if using, reach 175 degrees, another 5 to 10 minutes.
Using tongs, flip the chicken skin side down onto the hot side of the grill. Cook until the skin is lightly browned and crisp, 1 to 2 minutes, moving the chicken as needed to avoid flare-ups. Transfer the chicken skin side up to a platter and let rest for about 5 minutes.
While the chicken rests, grill the lemon halves cut side down on the hot side of the grate until grill-marked, 2 to 3 minutes. Squeeze 2½ tablespoons juice from 1 or 2 of the grilled lemon halves, then stir the juice along with the parsley into the reserved garlic-lemon oil to make the salmoriglio. Serve the sauce and the remaining grilled lemon halves with the chicken.
