Here Are All the Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Has Played on the ‘Eras’ Tour

The Grammy-winning artist plays an acoustic set at each show with two unique songs

Swift performs onstage for "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour"

By this point, the “Eras” tour surprise songs Taylor Swift hasn’t played yet on the Eras tour have dwindled considerably, given that Los Angeles was Taylor Swift’s last stop on the first United States leg of the stadium tour. Among a 4-hour set comprised of all 10 albums Swift has released, the songstress takes some time to play two “surprise songs” on the guitar or piano. The titles remain a mystery until the moment in the show when she takes time to strip down the production for her audience.

Swift has also flubbed lyrics to some songs, claiming that any song she messes up can be played again later on in the tour. With the international leg of the “Eras” tour fast approaching, Swift will run out of songs eventually. Many options still stand by for the set of shows in LA this weekend and next week.

Here’s the list of which surprise songs Swift performed and when, stretching back to the very first “Eras” show in Arizona:

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour

* Underlined songs mark titles Taylor messed up lyrics to

* Bolded titles mark repeat songs, Bold and Italicized titles mark three-peats

* Bold Italicized and Underlined titles mark four-peats

* Italicized Albums mark Swift’s announcements of when she would release her re-recorded albums, which has happened twice now so far on tour.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Surprise Songs: The List So Far

Fans will remember this tour all too well for years to come

Every day is a fairytale on the Eras Tour .

Taylor Swift has embarked on her first tour since 2018 , the singer has added to fans' excitement by performing two surprise acoustic songs from her 10 studio albums at some point during each three-hour show.

"The plan, the goal, would be to play different songs every single night and never repeat one," the singer and songwriter revealed to the audience at her first show of the tour.

Ticket-holders remained on the edge of their seats knowing no surprise song will be performed twice — unless Swift messes the song up during her performance — as she said while singing "Death by a Thousand Cuts" at an April 1 show — or if it's off Midnights . (So far, she's repeated "Red," "Holy Ground," "Clean," "Our Song," "Snow on the Beach," "Out of the Woods," Fifteen," "Sparks Fly," "Gold Rush" and "False God" twice while "Death by a Thousand Cuts" and "Maroon" have been played three times. "You're on Your Own, Kid" has been played four.)

In Melbourne, Australia in February 2024, Swift abolished her own no repeats rule — and has since begun playing medleys.

Share All sharing options for: Ranking Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Surprise Song Sets

Since Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour began making its way across the country this spring, 10:30 p.m. Swift Local Time has marked the unofficial start of Surprise Song O’Clock. Maybe you’ve been lucky enough to be in the audience one of those nights and have crossed your fingers and toes in hopes that she’ll play a personal favorite deep cut or bring out a special guest. Maybe you’ve followed along every night on TikTok livestreams dutifully uploaded by on-site Swifties, making sure fans far and wide can find out which two songs not part of the Eras main set list Swift has chosen for her mini acoustic set that night.

During the early shows of the tour, Swift laid out her self-imposed rules: one song on guitar, one on piano, and she would allow herself to repeat only songs from her 2022 album, Midnights , or any other song where she’d messed up the words. (She’s largely followed her own rules, repeating only one song, “Clean,” before heading into the final stretch of shows in Los Angeles, where she has since repeated two tracks from Midnights and fan favorites “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” which she messed up the first time, and “Our Song”—which might have been performed a second time because of whatever documentary was obviously being filmed in L.A.) This isn’t the first time Swift has included surprise songs in live shows—there was one per night on the Reputation Stadium Tour, and the 1989 World Tour included surprise duets with different guests—but this has been a savvy move for a tour meant to highlight her entire discography and a way for Swift to keep every show fresh, even when some concertgoers will have seen the whole thing online months before attending in person.

Plus, it’s a showcase for one of Swift’s superpowers : the ability to make each person in a crowd of tens of thousands feel like she’s talking or singing right to them. Each surprise song set has been a special moment in its own right, but, of course, some songs were more highly anticipated than others, and now that she’s wrapped up the first U.S. leg of the Eras Tour (in epic fashion, we must add), we’ve decided to rank all 53 (!!) of them here:

1. August 9 in Los Angeles, California: “New Romantics” and “New Year’s Day”

The anticipation for this surprise song set grew with every new—and blue—outfit Swift wore throughout the closing night of her record-setting six-run stop at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. As she ended the first U.S. leg of the Eras Tour on the ninth day of the eighth month, after more than a year of teases about 1989 (Taylor’s Version) , you just knew something epic was coming. And after crossing off “I Know Places” the night before, she picked the last 1989 track remaining on the surprise song big board: her musical Cinderella story, “New Romantics.” It started as a Target deluxe edition track, and now she’s closing tours and announcing albums with a note-perfect (yes, down to the sign) sing-along of it on the guitar, and everyone was too busy dancing to get knocked off our feet. Swift could have followed “New Romantics” with “ Monologue Song ” and this night would still have a case for the top spot (though maybe that’s a bad example—“Monologue Song” slaps), but she had more than that in store. At the piano, she surprised the star-studded crowd— hi, Karlie !—with “New Year’s Day,” which, even in August, was the perfect way to close this portion of the tour. Hold on to the memories, because every night felt just like a dream. — Nora Princiotti

2. May 26 in East Rutherford, New Jersey: “Getaway Car” With Jack Antonoff and “Maroon”

“I know you guys want to hear this one,” Swift said before introducing “Getaway Car” during the first of three shows at MetLife Stadium. She was right! “Getaway Car” as your surprise song is a Tier 1 I-was-there-when Swiftie experience. Jack Antonoff gives me low-grade social anxiety, but the fact that the performance was a nod to this footage of the two of them in an original writing session made this choice both an in-joke and a massive crowd-pleaser. We also can’t underrate the phenomenal version of “Maroon,” performed live for the first time at the piano. An all-time classic plus the chance to hear an excellent deep(ish) cut performed in a new way? I don’t know how it gets better than that. The cherry on top is that the whole crowd was expecting “Welcome to New York.” — Princiotti

3. August 5 in Los Angeles, California: “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”

L.A. stayed winning. With Swift apparently filming some kind of tour movie during her dates at SoFi Stadium, those shows had a little extra sizzle and great surprise song choices. Fans of the Lover: Live From Paris show know that a live acoustic set is where “Death by a Thousand Cuts” thrives. To pair it with “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” in some ways a manifesto for The Eras Tour itself, was truly special. — Princiotti

4. May 19 in Foxborough, Massachusetts: “Should’ve Said No” and “Better Man”

This is exactly what a dream surprise song set should be. “Should’ve Said No” is one of Taylor’s oldest tracks, off her debut album, which was notably absent from The Eras Tour, and it’s previously been part of an iconic live performance (the “Bad Blood” mash-up from the 2018 Reputation Tour). And I’ll argue that “Better Man” is her best vault track (apologies to fast-rising “I Can See You”). She gave “Better Man” to Little Big Town and has rarely performed it live, but that Friday night in Foxborough, she finally gave it the stadium treatment it deserved. — Lindsay Jones

5. April 1 in Arlington, Texas: “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “Clean”

“Death by a Thousand Cuts” is basically an automatic top five. A pairing with “Clean,” which has often been a particularly emotional live song, as Swift positions it as a chance for her audience to collectively move beyond whatever challenges they’ve faced, made the surprise set at this DFW show a tour highlight. Swift did bungle a few lyrics in “Clean,” but that just meant she got to do it again further down the line. — Princiotti

6. June 24 in Minneapolis, Minnesota: “Dear John” and “Daylight”

My daughter and I were sitting in the left field bleachers at Coors Field, watching a historically awful loss by our hometown Colorado Rockies, during this particularly epic Surprise Song O’Clock. I cranked the volume on my iPhone to the max as we listened to Taylor give a long introduction to her first acoustic song, imploring fans not to “defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written a song about.” What followed was her first performance of “Dear John” in 11 years—and sorry, Tay, we all know that song’s about John Mayer, despite your best attempts to play coy all these years later. And she paired it with “Daylight,” a song that is infinitely better when performed live on just a guitar than it was on the studio album Lover . That’s an elite surprise song set. — Jones

7. August 3 in Los Angeles, California: “I Can See You” and “Maroon”

Taylor kicked off her six-show run in L.A. with a hell of a pairing—the live debut of “I Can See You,” the best vault track from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , and a repeat performance of “Maroon.” With the latter, she let us all know not only that she was indeed going to repeat songs in the final stretch of the (first) American leg of The Eras Tour, but also that she was going to hit the deeper-cut fan favorites once again. — Jones

8. August 4 in Los Angeles, California: “Our Song” and “You Are in Love”

I am on record as stating that I can’t hear “You Are in Love” without thinking about Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham making out, but that’s my problem. And there is probably no singular experience better than singing “Our Song” at the tippy top of your lungs with tens of thousands of fellow Swifties. — Princiotti

9. May 7 in Nashville, Tennessee: “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” With Aaron Dessner and “Mine”

I know Taylor said not to, but I would have egged J-hn M-yer’s house if I’d been in Nashville for “WCS.” — Princiotti

10. July 28 in Santa Clara, California: “Right Where You Left Me” and “Castles Crumbling”

It’s the much-anticipated live debut of “Right Where You Left Me” for me. This was also the night that Haim did “No Body, No Crime” in the “Bejeweled” music video dresses. Man, I want to be in Haim. — Princiotti

11. July 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio: “Ivy” With Aaron Dessner, “I Miss You, I’m Sorry” With Gracie Abrams, and “Call It What You Want”

Her only three-song acoustic set (because of severe weather in Cincinnati that caused Gracie Abrams’s opening set to be canceled), the highlight of this night was “Ivy,” my favorite deep cut from Evermore . “Call It What You Want” was lovely on piano, but I can’t help but compare her rather emotionless delivery to the way we saw her sing it to her ex Joe Alwyn in the 2020 Miss Americana documentary. — Jones

12. May 6 in Nashville, Tennessee: “Out of the Woods” and “Fifteen”

*Seventy thousand scream the “Out of the Woods” bridge in unison* — Princiotti

13. May 5 in Nashville, Tennessee: “Sparks Fly” and “Teardrops on My Guitar”

Two elite early sing-alongs worth dropping everything now for. There are plenty of OG Swifties in Nashville, and they must have been levitating. — Princiotti

14. August 8 in Los Angeles, California: “I Know Places” and “King of My Heart”

The penultimate night at SoFi Stadium was delivering VOCALS. First it was “I Know Places,” the most underrated song on 1989 , where each chorus came in stronger than the last. Then, at the piano, Swift played the excellent “King of My Heart” from Reputation , and all at once it was so much more than enough. —Princiotti

15. July 22 in Seattle, Washington: “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” and “Everything Has Changed”

One of the most fun songs on Reputation alongside a Red song made for acoustic sing-alongs already makes for a strong pairing, but what made this surprise set extra memorable was the elongated cackle Swift let out in the spoken-word section of “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” when she faux forgives her adversaries. She can’t even say it with a straight face! Unhinged. Excellent. — Princiotti

16. July 15 in Denver, Colorado: “Starlight” and “Back to December”

We all knew “Back to December” was coming sometime after the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , and this rendition was worth waiting for. The way the Denver crowd went wild when their light-up bracelets turned from blue to purple and they realized what was coming was electric. — Jones

17. April 14 in Tampa, Florida: “The Great War” With Aaron Dessner and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”

I still can’t believe she left “You’re on Your Own, Kid” off the main set list—how loud would the line “so make the friendship bracelets” be every night? — Jones

18. June 30 in Cincinnati, Ohio: “I’m Only Me When I’m With You” and “Evermore”

I remember initially being disappointed that she chose to perform “Evermore” without Justin Vernon. Boy, was I wrong. Nearly six weeks later, I’m still seeking out her solo piano performance from Cincinnati because her vocals on both Vernon’s verse and the bridge are perfection. — Jones

19. April 15 in Tampa, Florida: “Mad Woman” With Aaron Dessner and “Mean”

And a liar! And pathetic!!!! — Princiotti

20. August 7 in Los Angeles, California: “Dress” and “Exile”

Even though this solo live version of “Exile” was unique and what Swift did with the bridge was very cool, I’ll admit I missed Justin Vernon here. — Jones

21. March 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada: “Our Song” and “Snow on the Beach”

What a weird but fucking beautiful pairing. — Jones

22. July 8 in Kansas City, Missouri: “Last Kiss” and “Dorothea”

“Dorothea” is so overlooked and such a wonderful, sweet song. Even though it’s wistful, it feels like a warm hug, which is good because this live version of “Last Kiss” was DEVASTATING—even the two vocal trip-ups, which somehow made it more special. — Princiotti

23. June 17 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: “Seven” With Aaron Dessner and “The Story of Us”

She absolutely wasn’t going to miss the chance to sing the lyric “with Pennsylvania under me” while in her home state. And that’s a nice line, but “love you to the moon and to Saturn” is the one I might get tattooed on my arm when this tour is over. — Jones

24. June 4 in Chicago, Illinois: “Hits Different” and “The Moment I Knew”

I don’t know why Swift was surprised the Soldier Field crowd knew every word to “Hits Different.” She should have known that even though she hid that track away on a CD-only version of Midnights sold at Target, we’d been streaming bootleg versions for months. — Jones

25. March 17 in Glendale, Arizona: “Mirrorball” and “Tim McGraw”

Back on the opening night of the tour, Taylor debuted the first surprise song set with “Mirrorball,” telling the crowd the song was her more eloquent way of saying, “I love you and want your attention all the time.” Well, she got it. — Jones

26. April 29 in Atlanta, Georgia: “High Infidelity” and “Gorgeous”

Do you really want to know where I was April 29? Watching TikTok feeds with extreme jealousy toward those who saw this surprise set live. This one was tasteful. — Princiotti

27. May 21 in Foxborough, Massachusetts: “I Think He Knows” and “Red”

Two great songs, and extra memorable for the fact that Swift wound up playing “Red” on the guitar because her piano was so waterlogged from the torrential downpour that soaked it the night before that it started playing itself. — Princiotti

28. May 27 in East Rutherford, New Jersey: “Holy Ground” and “False God”

“Holy Ground” has always been a perfect stadium filler and was a cool pairing with “False God,” one of Swift’s most idiosyncratic songs. I got to see this one live, and the funniest part was that she didn’t introduce “False God” at all . Really, though, what was she going to say? Tonight I thought I’d play one of my horniest songs. Please enjoy! — Princiotti

29. July 14 in Denver, Colorado: “Picture to Burn” and “Timeless”

From my years of covering the Broncos, I’ve felt Denver’s football stadium shake on dozens of occasions, but I’ve never felt it bounce quite like it did during “Picture to Burn.” And the live debut of “Timeless,” a vault track from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , was delightful—and truly a surprise song because so many of us with Denver Night 1 tickets clowned ourselves into believing that Hayley Williams would show up to do “Castles Crumbling” the night after Paramore played in Denver. — Jones

30. April 30 in Atlanta, Georgia: “I Bet You Think About Me” and “How You Get the Girl”

I’m just thankful we got to hear her sing the line “Oh my God, she’s insane” live. — Jones

31. May 12 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: “Gold Rush” and “Come Back … Be Here”

The verbal precision of “Gold Rush” was a cool contrast with the belting she did on “Come Back … Be Here.” — Princiotti

32. March 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada: “Cowboy Like Me” With Marcus Mumford and “White Horse”

The first surprise guest of the tour and a very horsey set. Ken approved. — Princiotti

33. June 2 in Chicago, Illinois: “I Wish You Would” and “The Lakes”

I loved this set, even though I doubt it was at the top of many wish lists. “We’re a crooked love in a straight line down” is such an evocative line in “I Wish You Would.” And real ones know the bonus tracks on Folklore and Evermore are exceptional. — Princiotti

34. March 18 in Glendale, Arizona: “State of Grace” and “This Is Me Trying”

The Glendale sets are from such a simpler time, back before we analyzed what songs were left and what she might repeat, back when we could just enjoy an epic lyric like “They told me all of my cages were mental / So I got wasted like all my potential.” — Jones

35. April 2 in Arlington, Texas: “Jump Then Fall” and “The Lucky One”

“This is about how horrible being famous is,” Swift, arguably the most famous singer in the world right now, said with a smirk as she introduced “The Lucky One” on piano. — Jones

36. April 13 in Tampa, Florida: “Speak Now” and “Treacherous”

In hindsight, it seems odd that she chose to perform the titular track for Speak Now a month before she announced the impending release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) . — Jones

37. May 13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: “Forever & Always” and “This Love”

When Lena Dunham requests “Forever & Always” for her birthday, you absolutely have to play it. Those are the rules. — Jones

38. May 28 in East Rutherford, New Jersey: “Welcome to New York” and “Clean”

Genuinely good bit on Taylor’s part to wait until the last show in East Rutherford to pull out “Welcome to New York.” — Princiotti

39. May 14 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: “Hey Stephen” and “The Best Day”

This show was on Mother’s Day, so of course she was going to perform “The Best Day,” which is in essence a love letter to her mother, Andrea. It’s a sweet song, perfect for an acoustic performance, and it surely hit all the millennial moms in the audience right in the feels. — Jones

40. June 9 in Detroit, Michigan: “Haunted” and “I Almost Do”

“Haunted” is such a huge instrumental song on the studio album(s), and yet it’s somehow more, well, haunting when it’s just Swift and a guitar. — Jones

41. June 10 in Detroit, Michigan: “All You Had to Do Was Stay” and “Breathe”

The high “stays” acoustic were very cool. — Princiotti

42. June 16 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: “Mr. Perfectly Fine” and “The Last Time”

To quote Sophie Turner, “MPF” is not not a bop. — Princiotti

43. June 23 in Minneapolis, Minnesota: “Paper Rings” and “If This Was a Movie”

“Paper Rings” deserved a better partner. — Jones

44. June 3 in Chicago, Illinois: “You All Over Me” With Maren Morris and “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”

Remember that whole Matty Healy thing? It all fizzled out right around the time of her Chicago dates, which might help explain why she picked a song with the lyric “What if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life?” — Jones

45. May 20 in Foxborough, Massachusetts: “Question …?” and “Invisible”

I remember two things about this set: (1) the epic downpour in Foxborough and (2) the way Swift introduced the acoustic set, telling the crowd, “I’ve just never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life, and thank you for being a part of that. And it’s not just the tour, so I feel like my life finally feels like it makes sense. So I thought I’d play this song that brings me a lot of happy memories.” This was, of course, post-Joe and possibly mid-Matty, whatever that means. — Jones

46. July 7 in Kansas City, Missouri: “Never Grow Up” and “When Emma Falls in Love”

I cannot listen to “Never Grow Up” without crying, so I was honestly relieved when this one came off the big board a week before I saw The Eras Tour live. Thoughts and prayers to all the moms who were at Arrowhead that night with their children; I would not have survived it. — Jones

47. July 29 in Santa Clara, California: “Stay Stay Stay” and “All of the Girls You Loved Before”

Did you hear they named it Swiftie Clara? — Princiotti

48. April 28 in Atlanta, Georgia: “The Other Side of the Door” and “Coney Island”

Even without her cowriters from the National, “Coney Island” was surely a thrill for the Sad Dad corner of the Taylor Swift fandom. — Jones

49. March 31 in Arlington, Texas: “Sad Beautiful Tragic” and “Ours”

If you have to ask, “I’m not sure if you guys love this one or not, or if you just like it or if you’re obsessed with it,” before playing a song, as she did with “Sad Beautiful Tragic,” maybe that’s a sign that it’s not a dream surprise song. — Jones

50. July 23 in Seattle, Washington: “Message in a Bottle” and “Tied Together With a Smile”

Sure, “Message in a Bottle” is a bop, but anyone who says they had either of these picks on their surprise song big board in late July is lying. — Jones

51. April 22 in Houston, Texas: “A Place in This World” and “Today Was a Fairytale”

I can’t make a case that this acoustic set was elite, but I just want to say that I ride for “Today Was a Fairytale.” — Princiotti

52. April 23 in Houston, Texas: “Begin Again” and “Cold As You”

I mean, it’s fine. — Jones

53. April 21 in Houston, Texas: “Wonderland” and “You’re Not Sorry”

Taylor, did Houston do something? It’s not that these surprise sets weren’t enjoyable—they all were—I just don’t know how many fans had “Wonderland,” a 1989 bonus track, paired with this hurting early cut from Fearless on their wish lists. — Princiotti

Every surprise song Taylor Swift has performed on the ‘Eras Tour’ so far

During every “Eras Tour” concert, there comes a time that audiences are always waiting for: surprise-song o’clock.

This is when Taylor Swift sits down with just a guitar and a piano to play acoustic versions of two songs — sometimes mashups, sometimes not — that change between each show. And fans don’t know what songs she’s chosen that night until the surprise-song set starts.

Swift just wrapped a string of six consecutive shows in Singapore from March 2-9, and will pick up her “Eras Tour” in Europe in the spring, starting with four shows in Paris beginning May 9 . During her break, Swift will release her 11th album, “The Tortured Poets Department” — which begs the question of if or how Swift will work this new record into her “Eras Tour” set list.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour - Melbourne, Australia

Last year, Swift said she’d aim not to repeat surprise songs during the “Eras Tour,” leaving fans to track each night’s performances like detectives, watching their favorite songs get picked off in the lead up to their own concert date.

But after Swift announced that she “reset” the eligibility of all songs for 2024 and introduced twists, it’s impossible to predict what she’ll do next.

Intrepid Swifties keeping record of all the songs Swift has performed have noted that, while there are several songs that have been played multiple times, there are some songs that the singer has not at all. Those include:

  • "Mary's Song"
  • "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "The Way I Loved You"
  • "Superstar"
  • "We Were Happy"
  • "That's When"
  • "Don't You"

  • "London Boy"
  • "Soon You'll Get Better"
  • "It's Nice To Have a Friend"
  • "Only the Young"
  • "Beautiful Ghosts"

Every Surprise Song Taylor Swift Plays On The Eras Tour

A Swifties guide to all the surprise songs.

Taylor Swift showing off her yellow duster on the Eras Tour.

Over the course of three and a half hours, Taylor Swift takes Swifties on a journey through all her eras by way of 45 songs, elaborate sets, sparkly costumes, fun dance moves and epic vocals. However, two of the songs featured each night during the Eras Tour change, as the pop star switches up her acoustic set for every show. So, with that in mind, we've created a guide to all the surprise songs featured on the pop star's tour.

While fans who survived the Ticketmaster fiasco know they’ll be seeing Swift honor her grandmother during “marjorie,” dive into her stage and do the viral “Bejeweled” TikTok dance , what they don’t know is the surprise songs they’ll get. Swift has a discography that currently includes 209 songs, and with 43 on the permanent setlist, per Variety , that leaves 166 left to play. So, as she tours around the world, we'll be here to tell you what she's played, what has been repeated, and why it's important.

As The Eras Tour goes on, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on everything secret song-related, so you can relive performances of your favorite Swift songs or try to predict which surprise songs you’ll see at your show.

mirrorball – Glendale, Arizona – March 17

The first surprise song Swifties got on the Eras Tour was “mirrorball.” The song from folklore is a big fan-favorite, and many Swifties showed up to the concert dressed as the sparkly decoration. The song is a fascinating examination of Taylor Swift and her relationship with fame. Fans have also resonated with the song, and they understandably lost it when she started strumming the chords to the tune on her guitar.

Tim McGraw – Glendale, Arizona – March 17

Fittingly, the second song Swift surprised the audience with was her first single and the song that put her name on the map. She moved over to the piano to play “Tim McGraw” from her debut album, and Swifties couldn’t help but sing along to the lyrics from this OG Taylor Swift classic.

this is me trying – Glendale, Arizona – March 18

Night two brought some deeper cuts to the Eras stage, as Swift started by singing “this is my trying” from folklore . She played the melancholic song on her guitar, and many fans were in shock that the singer played two beloved songs off her folky album on nights one and two of the tour.

State of Grace – Glendale, Arizona – March 18

Following “this is me trying” Swift went on to play a personal favorite of mine from Red (Taylor’s Version) . As she took to the piano she played a stripped-down version of “State of Grace (Taylor’s Version),” and as one fan commented on TikTok , it was like a “religious experience.”

Our Song – Las Vegas, Nevada – March 24

The secret songs picked for Las Vegas started with a banger as Taylor Swift played her first smash-hit song “Our Song” on her guitar. Swifties lost their minds hearing the throwback tune, and for all of us who weren’t at the concert, we’re hoping she’ll “play it again.”

Snow on the Beach – Las Vegas, Nevada – March 24

While Swift has become known for bringing out special guests to perform songs with her, that did not happen when she sang “Snow on the Beach.” The track from Midnights features Lana Del Rey, and while fans were hoping for a guest appearance, the headliner made it clear that there wouldn't be guests at this particular show:

I’m going to talk about another artist, but that artist is not here, OK? This is not a bit, I’m not going to bring somebody out, you are stuck with me. We do not have guests at this show.

So, while fans didn’t get to see Lana Del Rey live, they still got to bask in a beautiful rendition of “Snow on the Beach” in Las Vegas.

cowboy like me (ft. Marcus Mumford) – Las Vegas, Nevada – March 25

There may not have been a guest on night one of Swift’s Vegas shows, but there was on night two! Fans were elated when Marcus Mumford walked onto the stage to play “cowboy like me” off of evermore with Swift. The two played the tune on their guitars, and they seemed to have a blast together. Swift even stopped the song at one point to poke fun at her duet partner. Overall, it was a real tour highlight, and it marked a major milestone as Mumford was the first special guest of The Eras Tour.

White Horse – Las Vegas, Nevada – March 25

On top of the special guest appearance in Vegas on night two, Swift used her second song to play a fan-favorite off of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) as she connected “White Horse” to “cowboy like me” by saying “cowboys ride horses.” The envy was high for Swifties who weren’t at the show as she started playing “White Horse” on the piano, but nonetheless, it was a beautiful performance of a Taylor Swift classic.

Sad Beautiful Tragic – Arlington, Texas – March 31

Night one in Arlington, Texas featured the song "Sad Beautiful Tragic" off of Red (Taylor's Version) . This marks the second time the singer picked a song off said album to be one of her secret songs, and fans loved it, even if they were balling through the entire tune.

Ours – Arlington, Texas – March 31

This one was special, this one was "Ours," and it marked the first time Swift played a song off Speak Now during her secret set. She slowed the song down a tad for piano, and she played the hit beautifully, and while fans were trying "not to worry [their] pretty little mind," they were understandably freaking out.

Death By A Thousand Cuts – Arlington, Texas – April 1

Hang onto your valuables guys, gals and non-binary pals, because Taylor Swift shook the stadium, and TikTok, when she played "Death by a Thousand Cuts" off Lover . The fan-favorite song inspired by the movie Someone Great is so iconic, especially the bridge, that Swift played the moment twice on guitar. However, the second time she messed it up (though I think the flub was intentional), and her rule on the surprise songs is if she messes one up, she will play it again at another show. So, I guess that means we'll be getting this legendary Lover tune again.

@kelllieann ♬ original sound - kellie

Clean – Arlington, Texas – April 1

Swift dedicated "Clean" to her opener Gracie Abrams since the "adorable" singer had asked the pop star if she'd play the song off of 1989 during her surprise set. The audience lost their minds as the first notes were played, and this moment marked the first time a song from 1989 was featured in this segment of the Eras tour.

Jump Then Fall – Arlington, Texas – April 2

Night 3 in Arlington was a historic performance for Taylor Swift, as she became the first person to ever play three nights in a row at the stadium in Texas. So, to commemorate the evening, she played two songs off the (Taylor's Version) albums, including one of my favorites "Jump Then Fall" which is from Fearless (Taylor's Version) .

The Lucky One – Arlington, Texas – April 2

The Swifties in Arlington really were the lucky ones as Swift capped off her surprise songs for Texas with "The Lucky One" off of Red (Taylor's Version) . She played a slowed-down version of the song on the piano, and let's just say if I would have been there I would not "have made it out alive," and I would have very much felt like the "Lucky One."

Speak Now – Tampa, Florida – April 13

Taylor Swift was hardcore teasing the release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version) during her first night in Tampa. However, the biggest tease came when she grabbed her guitar and started her secret songs set by saying:

One of my albums has been on my mind a lot, I've been thinking about it, there's lots going on in my brain about it. So I thought I might play the title track of that album.

As many fans, took to TikTok to post the clip of Swift singing this song, viewers freaked out, because this performance alludes to the theory that the singer's next re-recording is coming sooner than later.

Treacherous – Tampa, Florida – April 13

Song No. 2 came by way of Red (Taylor's Version) as the singer introduced the song "Treacherous." Swift mused about how the tune is one of her favorite songs, and she also mentioned that she didn't think she'd played it on a piano before. Well, she sounded fabulous, and everyone absolutely loved hearing the stripped-down version of the track.

The Great War – Tampa, Florida – April 14

The second guest has entered the chat. For her surprise set, Taylor Swift brought out her Midnights 3 a.m. Edition collaborator Aaron Dessner. The member of The National came out to accompany the pop star during her performance of "The Great War," and the crowd loved it.

You're On Your Own Kid – Tampa, Florida – April 14

In a first for the Eras Tour, Swift decided to play two songs off the same album for her surprise set. She also decided to change the rules, saying that if the song is off Midnights , she can play it however many times she pleases. This version of "You're On Your Own Kid," was not only emotional and heartfelt, it also changed the rules of the acoustic set.

Mad Woman – Tampa, Florida – April 15

For the second night in a row, Swift brought out Aaron Dessner, who has collaborated with her on many albums. This time, the duo sat at the piano together and played "Mad Woman," a deep cut off folklore .

Mean – Tampa, Florida – April 15

The big, and very exciting, surprise of the night, was Swift singing "Mean," one of the massive hits off Speak Now . She commented that she wanted to play a song that everyone would be able to scream along to, and the crowd did exactly that as the popstar continued to hardcore tease the release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version).

Wonderland – Houston, Texas – April 21

Taylor Swift started off Houston's secret songs with a deep cut from 1989 . She mentioned that it was a song she hadn't played often live, and then said the song was based on a "twisted Alice in Wonderland ." Then she strummed the first notes of "Wonderland," and the crowd lost it.

You're Not Sorry – Houston, Texas – April 21

Swift added another song from Fearless (Taylor's Version) to the list of secret tunes she's played at the Eras Tour. As she took to the piano, she explained how much she's been loving the secret songs, touched on her re-recorded albums, and said she "re-fell in love" with "You're Not Sorry" while remaking Fearless .

A Place In This World – Houston, Texas – April 22

The song might be from Taylor Swift , her first album, however during her surprise set, the singer admitted that she relates to "A Place In This World," more now than she did all those years ago, saying:

I wrote it when I was 13, but I think I relate to it more now, 20 years later.
@jp_in_austin ♬ original sound - jp_in_Austin

She also explained that she very rarely plays the song live, so the crowd was really in for a special performance with this song.

Today Was A Fairytale – Houston, Texas – April 22

Following "A Place In This World," the singer ended her set with another throwback. Pulling a song off Fearless (Taylor's Version), Swift referenced one of her movies by playing "Today Was A Fairytale" off the Valentine's Day soundtrack and it was such a sweet moment.

Begin Again – Houston, Texas – April 23

On her final night in Houston, Swift started her surprise set with "Begin Again," off of Red (Taylor's Version) . While fans are excited and loud with every song she plays, the screaming in this video was particularly loud, showing the love for this deep cut.

Cold As You – Houston, Texas – April 23

Swift ended her time in Texas with a bold claim and a performance of another track off Debut. While figuring out the key to the song, the singer explained that "Cold As You" was her best song on the album, saying "no shade to the other songs."

The Other Side Of The Door – Atlanta, Georgia – April 28

Taylor Swift's Atlanta surprise songs began with her signing a deep cut from Fearless (Taylor's Version) . While playing "The Other Side of the Door" Swift got excited by how loud the crowd was singing, and noted how happy it makes her when they know the lyrics to some of her deep cuts.

Coney Island – Atlanta, Georgia – April 28

In honor of The Nationals' new album, and their song "The Alcott," which Swift is featured on, she decided to play "Coney Island" off evermore as her second surprise song of the night. While the band who is featured on Swift's track wasn't a special guest that night, it was a nice nod to her longtime collaborators.

High Infidelity – Atlanta, Georgia – April 29

Do you really want to know where Taylor Swift was on April 29? She was in Atlanta Georgia, playing her song that mentions the specific date in the fourth month of the year. "High Infidelity" was maybe the only predictable song of the surprise songs, however, it was still oh so exciting to see Swift sing the Midnights' song on the date it mentions.

Gorgeous – Atlanta, Georgia – April 29

Up to this point, Taylor Swift hadn't played a song off Reputation during the surprise set. She noted those online who are keeping track of all the tunes played, and said she realized she hadn't given some love to her most "metal" album, as she called it. So, she took to the piano and played a lovely rendition of "Gorgeous."

I Bet You Think About Me – Atlanta, Georgia – April 30

"I Bet You Think About Me" was the first Vault track Swift played as a surprise song. Even though Chris Stapleton wasn't there to accompany her, she played her heart out on the guitar, and fans loved hearing the new Red track for the first time live.

How You Get The Girl – Atlanta, Georgia – April 30

Ending her surprise songs for Atlanta, Swift played a deep cut off 1989 . She took to the piano and played a stripped-down version of "How You Get The Girl," and you could tell she was so excited about the crowd screaming the lyrics with her.

Sparks Fly – Nashville, Tennessee – May 5

Oh, Swifties, we were in for an "Enchanted" night in Nashville! Ever since Taylor Swift dropped the "Bejeweled" video , fans quickly picked up on all the Speak Now- related Easter eggs, starting the speculation that the singer's third album would be her next re-release. Well, the news officially broke at night one in Swift's hometown, as she announced the album would be coming out on July 7. Then she topped it off with a performance of "Sparks Fly."

To celebrate the news, jessica.taylor13 posted the announcement and the beginning of "Sparks Fly" on TikTok, and let's just say we were all ready to "Drop Everything Now."

Teardrops on My Guitar – Nashville, Tennessee – May 5

To top off this extra exciting surprise set, Swift decided to play one of the big hits off her debut album by choosing "Teardrops on My Guitar" as her piano tune. She noted that her career began in Nashville, and she'd write songs between going to school and doing her homework. So, in honor of this special city, she played the beloved song on the piano.

Out Of The Woods – Nashville, Tennessee – May 6

Taylor Swift threw it back to 1989 on Night 2 as she sang "Out of the Wood" on guitar. She noted the repetitive nature of the song's chorus, and that's when fans really realized the song they were getting.

Fifteen – Nashville, Tennessee – May 6

The second song of Night 2 was a tearjerker, as Taylor Swift honored her bestie Abigail by singing a classic from Fearless . It's assumed that she chose to sing this song in Nashville because her red-headed friend was in the crowd, as you can see in this cute TikTok :

Would've, Could've, Should've – Nashville, Tennessee – May 7

It rained and poured, and there was a massive weather delay, but Taylor Swift put on an extra epic show for Night 3 in Nashville because of it. This included the surprise songs, as the singer brought Aaron Dessner out, again, to sing "Would've, Could've, Should've," because the crowd had "earned it."

Mine – Nashville, Tennessee – May 7

Capping off quite the weekend in Nashville, Taylor Swift played one last song off Speak Now . In the pouring rain, the singer and the Swifties celebrated Speak Now (Taylor's Version) again as she played "Mine" on the piano.

Gold Rush – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 12

There's been a debate about the song "gold rush," off evermore for a while now, especially for those who care about the Philadelphia Eagles. Taylor Swift put the discourse to rest by confirming she was talking about the NFL team , and the crowd went wild as she strummed the first chord to "gold rush."

Come Back...Be Here – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 12

Per the request of her opener and super famous musician Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift played a track off Red (Taylor's Version).  She sat down on the piano, noting that she takes requests, and then proceeded to play "Come Back...Be Here."

Forever & Always – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 13

" Once upon a time , I believe it was a [Saturday]" when Taylor Swift played "Forever & Always" as one of her surprise songs. Per Lena Dunham's request, the singer played the Fearless tune on the guitar, marking the first of three songs she'd play off her first re-recorded album in Philly.

This Love – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 13

To go with "Forever & Always," Swift decided to play "This Love" from 1989 on piano. Swifties loved the emotional rendition of the song, and it was such an interesting pair with the song off Fearless .

Hey Stephen – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 14

Kicking off the night three surprise songs, Swift played a tune off Fearless that she said quite a few people had requested. So, she started to hum along, and then the stadium started to scream along to the catchy song "Hey Stephen."

The Best Day – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 14

Ending off the surprise songs, though it wasn't much of a surprise, was "The Best Day." Since it was Mother's Day, and the Fearless track was written for her mom Andrea Swift, many knew the pop star would play this song. And she did it beautifully. Taylor Swift noted she'd have to try and get through it without crying, and went on to play an emotional and adorable tribute to her mother.

Taylor at the Eras Tour in Philadelphia.

Should've Said No – Foxborough, Massachusetts – May 19

Kicking off the Massachusetts shows at Gillette Stadium (which is a very special place for Taylor Swift) she played "Should've Said No" off her debut album. She introduced the song by noting that when she performed it on her first tour she'd thrash her head around, and really jam out to it, and that's exactly what she did on this night too.

Better Man – Foxborough, Massachusetts – May 19

The second song of the night, while on Red (Taylor's Version) as a vault track, is actually a tune that she wrote and Little Big Town sang at first. She explained that "Better Man" "narrowly, narrowly didn't make the cut," on Red (the first time) so she sent it to the country group. She noted how important it was for her to be recognized as a songwriter, and she gushed over her love for Little Big Town before performing a beautiful version of the hit country song.

Question...? – Foxborough, Massachusetts – May 20

It rained and poured through the entire 3.5-hour show on Night 2, but that didn't stop Taylor Swift. To kick off her secret songs, she started with "Question...?" off of Midnights , noting that she's "never been this happy" in "all aspects" of her life. She also paused mid-song to note the rain, saying if she messes up she gets to play a song again, so I think we'll be hearing this one again.

Invisible – Foxborough, Massachusetts – May 20

The second song during this massive rain show came off her debut. After literally wiping the water off her piano, Swift played "Invisible," in the pouring rain, and it was beautiful.

I Think He Knows – Foxborough, Massachusetts – May 21

We finally got another song from Lover ! To start out the night, Swift noted that she'd never played "I Think He Knows" live before, and the fans absolutely loved it.

Red – Foxborough, Massachusetts – May 21

While Swift almost always plays her second secret song on the piano, on this night, the piano was acting haunted, no pun intended. Taylor Swift tried to play the title song off Red (Taylor's Version) on piano, however, the keys kept playing themselves, making the singer and the crowd laugh. So, to fix the problem, she grabbed her guitar again, and she played "Red" for the crowd.

Getaway Car – East Rutherford, New Jersey – May 26

For all of us Reputation girlies who weren't at Met Life night one, it was a big L. But, for everyone in the stadium right outside New York City, they were in for a real treat as Taylor Swift played "Getaway Car" on guitar. And she didn't just play the fan-favorite track, she brought out her longtime collaborator and Bleachers' lead singer Jack Antonoff to sing the song with her. Let's just say it was epic.

@bejeweledbetty13 ♬ original sound - bejeweledbetty

Maroon – East Rutherford, New Jersey – May 26

As if the secret songs could get any better, Taylor Swift played "Maroon" off Midnights next. She noted that she'd never played the song live before, and that since it took place in New York, she figured this was the perfect place to debut the song live.

Holy Ground – East Rutherford, New Jersey – May 27

To kick off Night 2, Taylor Swift noted that she was "pretty proud" of her guitar choice. Keeping with the New York theme, she decided to play "Holy Ground" off Red , and that paired with the song she played next was perfect.

False God – East Rutherford, New Jersey – May 27

With no intro to song two, Swift went right into singing "False God" off Lover . Considering the religious words mentioned in both songs' titles, plus the nature of both tunes, this felt like a perfect pairing.

Welcome To New York – East Rutherford, New Jersey – May 28

While many fans thought this would be played as a surprise song on Night 1, Swift shocked us all by playing "Welcome To New York" to close out her shows right outside of New York City.

Clean – East Rutherford, New Jersey – May 28

The final song of the East Rutherford shows was a historic one because it was the first time she repeated a surprise song. Swift played "Clean" for the second time on tour, noting that she thought she could have played it in a higher key last time, so it counted as a mess up.

This also marked the second time she'd played two songs off the same album for this set, with the only other time being in Tampa, when she did two tunes off Midnights . Overall, it was a big moment for the Eras Tour, and also kind of supplemented the theory fans have about the "Karma" video, and 1989 (Taylor's Version) being next.

I Wish You Would – Chicago, Illinois – June 2

Homegirl is running through her 1989 songs. For the third surprise song in a row, Taylor Swift played a tune off her fifth album by acoustically performing "I Wish You Would." One of the most adorable parts of this performance came when the pop star adorably commented about the crowd knowing the lyrics to the fun song.

The Lakes – Chicago, Illinois – June 2

Swift explained that she played "the lakes" off folklore in Chicago because they're right next to The Great Lakes. While that totally tracks and is likely the only reason, I personally hope she somehow found out that the folklore song was a final Jeopardy question earlier this week, and that played a small role in her choice for Night 1. But, no matter what it was a lovely performance.

You All Over Me – Chicago, Illinois – June 3

Pulling a track from The Vault of Fearless (Taylor's Version), Taylor Swift did a very exciting thing and brought out Maren Morris to sing "You All Over Me" with her. Swift has only brought out a few guests during her shows, so seeing the country singer on the big stage was very exciting.

I Don't Wanna Live Forever – Chicago, Illinois – June 3

Night 2 was all about the collaborations! While Zayn wasn't a special guest, Taylor Swift gave a heart-wrenching performance of their song "I Don't Wanna Live Forever." This was the first time the pop star performed a song that isn't on one of her albums because it was featured on the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack. Overall, it was a very exciting and emotional moment.

Hits Different – Chicago, Illinois – June 4

After making some comments about how committed the Swifties are during her shows, Taylor Swift jumped right into a song that's "pretty new." The song "Hits Different" was a bonus track on Midnights for the physical version of the album, but now with the release of (The Til Dawn Edition) the tune is available to everyone. So, folks were extra excited to hear the singer's newest song for the first time live in Chicago.

The Moment I Knew – Chicago, Illinois – June 4

Then, with no intro, Swift walked over to her piano to play "The Moment I Knew" off Red (Taylor's Version). Overall, Chicago got lots of fun songs and some really deep cuts, making for a stellar surprise song set.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour

Haunted – Detroit, Michigan – June 9

I think there were a lot of Swifties who were left "Haunted" over the fact that Taylor Swift played "Haunted" as her surprise song to open Detroit and they weren't there. Before she started playing the fan fave, the singer noted that Speak Now (Taylor's Version) comes out next month and then dove right into this epic tune.

Keeping the re-record theme alive, Swift then played a track off Red (Taylor's Version) . After adjusting her mic, and with no intro, she jumped right into a pretty piano rendition of "I Almost Do."

All You Had To Do Was Stay – Detroit, Michigan – June 10

By reenacting the high-pitched "Stay!" sung in "All You Had To Do Was Stay," Taylor Swift introduced the 1989 track in a fun way before playing it on her guitar. This means that over the course of two weeks, the singer has performed five songs off her fifth album, contributing to my growing theory that 1989 (Taylor's Version) might be released soon.

Breathe – Detroit, Michigan – June 10

The other trend of the last few weeks has been Swift's tendency to play her really sad songs. Adding to this, after playing "All You Had To Do Was Stay," she walked over to her piano and started to play "Breathe" off of Fearless (Taylor's Version).

Mr. Perfectly Fine – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – June 16

Starting Pittsburgh off with a bang, and keeping the streak of break-up songs alive, Taylor Swift played "Mr. Perfectly Fine" to open up the surprise songs. Noting that she didn't remember why the song didn't make Fearless the first time, she spoke about her vault tracks a bit before jumping right into this bubbly break-up tune.

The Last Time – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – June 16

Keeping with the break up theme, Swift's second song of the night came off of Red (Taylor's Version). With no introduction, she jumped right into playing "The Last Time" on piano.

Seven – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – June 17

For the fourth time on this tour, Taylor Swift brought Aaron Dessner on stage to perform a surprise song with her. Appropriately, since it was June 17 and she was in Pennsylvania, the pair sat at the piano and played "seven" off folklore.

The Story Of Us – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – June 17

Following "seven," Swift grabbed her guitar and started strumming a true banger: "The Story of Us." Like me, this was a surprise song of dreams for many, and the Swifties were so excited to hear the Speak Now song live, especially since Taylor's Version comes out on July 7.

Paper Rings – Minneapolis, Minnesota – June 23

Our streak of heartbreak ended in Minneapolis, as Taylor Swift opened her weekend of surprise songs with "Paper Rings" off of Lover . Following the announcement that "Cruel Summer" would be her next single, this bubbly song felt like the perfect pick for this show.

If This Was A Movie – Minneapolis, Minnesota – June 23

Following that, and with no introduction, Swift jumped right into "If This Was A Movie," which was originally on Speak Now but now lives on Fearless (Taylor's Version). Without a word, she simply played this tune on the piano, and the crowd loved it.

Dear John – Minneapolis, Minnesota – June 24

Before jumping into a fan favorite, Taylor Swift took a moment to sort of defend John Mayer as she asked fans to not bully her exes online. As she got ready to perform "Dear John," she made a point to say:

I’m 33 years old. I don’t care about anything that happened to me when I was 19 except the songs I wrote and the memories we made together. So what I’m trying to tell you is that I’m not putting this album out so that you can go and feel the need to defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written a song about.

So, Swifties, when Speak Now (Taylor's Version) comes out, Taylor Swift has made it clear she wants no online bullying.

Following this PSA she then jumped into a gorgeous version of "Dear John:"

Daylight – Minneapolis, Minnesota – June 24

Taylor Swift started and ended her time in Minneapolis with a tune from Lover . After playing "Dear John," she walked right over to her piano and played "Daylight."

I'm Only Me When I'm With You – Cincinnati, Ohio – June 30

Taylor Swift started out with the throwback of all throwbacks by playing a song she wrote when she was 13. Noting that this was from her "middle school era," the singer went on to play "I'm Only Me When I'm With You," and the audience happily jumped along with her.

Evermore – Cincinnati, Ohio – June 30

Jumping to one of her more recent eras, Taylor Swift went on to play "evermore" on the piano. This gorgeous rendition of the title track of the singer's ninth album means she's officially played all her songs that albums are named after live.

Ivy – Cincinnati, Ohio – July 1

Cincinnati Night 2 was a truly special evening when it came to surprise songs. It started with Swift and Aaron Dessner (who has now appeared at five shows) playing "ivy" off of evermore .

I Miss You, I'm Sorry – Cincinnati, Ohio – July 1

The second song is what made this a truly historic night on the Eras Tour.

Since there was a weather issue, Swift started her show an hour early, and Gracie Abrams wasn't able to do her normal opening set. So, in a truly unprecedented event, Taylor Swift brought her opener out on stage to play Abrams' song "I Miss You, I'm Sorry," marking the first time Swift played a song that wasn't her's on tour.

Call It What You Want – Cincinnati, Ohio – July 1

To finish off a truly special night of surprise songs, Swift ended with a song off Reputation . With no intro, she played "Call It What You Want," marking the third time she's played a song off this album during her acoustic set.

Never Grow Up – Kansas City, Missouri – July 7

Following Taylor Swift releasing Speak Now (Taylor's Version) , adding "Long Live" to her set list, and premiering the "I Can See You" music video, which featured Taylor Lautner and Joey King , she kept the Speak Now hype alive by playing "Never Grow Up."

When Emma Falls In Love – Kansas City, Missouri – July 7

Keeping the Speak Now enthusiasm going, Swift went on to play one of the brand-new songs from the vault. Noting that it's inspired by one of her best friends, she jumped right into "When Emma Falls In Love," which people think is about Emma Stone .

Last Kiss – Kansas City, Missouri – July 8

After Speak Now's epic release show, Swift followed it up by playing a fan-favorite off the album for Night 2, "Last Kiss." Good news is, she kind of messed up while playing  it, so that means we'll get to hear it again.

Dorethea – Kansas City, Missouri – July 8

Following "Last Kiss," Swift ended her shows in Kansas City by playing "dorethea," which is a very sweet song off evermore.

Picture To Burn – Denver, Colorado – July 14

So, I was at this show specifically, and the crowd and I lost our collective minds when Taylor Swift decided to play the certified banger "Picture to Burn." She noted that she has been loving exploring all her eras, and it felt really special that we got a song from her debut album.

Timeless – Denver, Colorado – July 14

After playing one of her oldest songs in her discography, Swift went on to perform one of her newest by playing "Timeless" from Speak Now's vault next.

Starlight – Denver, Colorado – July 15

Opening up Night 2 in Colorado, Swift played one of the sweetest songs off of Red by performing "Starlight" on guitar.

Back To December – Denver, Colorado – July 15

Then, the moment many of us have been waiting for, Taylor Swift finally played "Back to December" as a surprise song. Understandably, the crowd lost it when they figured out she was playing this fan-favorite.

This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things – Seattle, Washington – July 22

Seattle was kicked off with a song from Reputation ! Swift mentioned that she'd never played this song acoustically before, and boy was it a treat to hear "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" on the guitar. It was such a fun performance, and the crowd loved it!

Everything Has Changed – Seattle, Washington – July 22

Even though Ed Sheeran wasn't there, Taylor Swift's rendition of "Everything Has Changed" was still magical. Hearing her play the tune stripped down on piano was beautiful, and it kicked off the duo of Red (Taylor's Version) tracks that Seattle got.

@delaneymeow ♬ original sound - delaney

Message In A Bottle – Seattle, Washington – July 23

Keeping the Red love alive, Taylor Swift kicked off Night 2 with "Message In A Bottle." What was extra exciting about this performance was it was the first time she played the song live since recording it for the album's vault.

Tied Together With A Smile – Seattle, Washington – July 23

To round out the surprise songs in Seattle, Swift ended with a track off her debut album, "Tied Together With A Smile."

Right Where You Left Me – Santa Clara, California – July 28

Calling it one of the "wordiest" songs she's ever written, Taylor Swift embarked on a journey to play a fan-favorite deep cut from evermore , " right where you left me ." After bringing Aaron Dessner on stage to accompany her, she noted that she'd been rehearsing the track for "weeks," and she hadn't been able to do it right once. However, she sounded amazing as she played it on stage:

Castles Crumbling – Santa Clara, California – July 28

The audience was in for a real surprise with the second song, as she played " Castles Crumbling ," from the Speak Now (Taylor's Version) vault . This was shocking because she played it solo even though Hayley Williams is featured on it, and Paramore has been and will be one of Swift's openers later on tour. I'd bet when Paramore is opening for Swift in Europe, this song will be making a comeback.

Stay Stay Stay – Santa Clara, California – July 29

Taylor Swift played one of her most adorable songs to open the set during night two as she played "Stay Stay Stay" off of Red (Taylor's Version) .

All Of The Girls You Loved Before – Santa Clara, California – July 29

Song two of night two was also a shock as Swift played a Lover song that was released right at the beginning of the Eras Tour. She took to her piano and played a moving version of " All Of The Girls You Loved Before ."

Keeping the repeat trend alive, Swift went on to play " You're On Your Own Kid " from Midnights again.

Dress – Los Angeles, California – August 7

Night Four in Los Angeles was special because Swift played " Dress " off Reputation . She also noted that she "missed" playing it live, and I think we all did too.

Exile – Los Angeles, California – August 7

While it was a bummer that Bon Iver didn't show up as a special guest to perform " exile " with Swift, the performance was beautiful, and the audience made it super special. As you can see in the TikTok below, they didn't just sing along, they also supported the pop star by signing the duet part during the bridge:

I Know Places – Los Angeles, California – August 8

We're getting very close to the end of the first US leg of this tour, and very close to Taylor Swift playing every song from 1989 . Following this performance of " I Know Places, " all that's left is "New Romantics."

King Of My Heart – Los Angeles, California – August 8

After the 1989 track, Swift ended this surprise set with another Reputation song, and performed a wonderful rendition of " King Of My Heart ."

Cornelia Street – Mexico City, Mexico – August 26

Taylor Swift's Secret Songs Left for Eras Tour: Every Song She Hasn't Performed Yet

Taylor Swift performs two surprise songs for the acoustic set during every show of her Eras Tour and she has already performed a ton of incredible tracks during the first U.S. leg.

The 33-year-old singer is getting ready to continue the South American leg of the tour and you might be wondering what songs are remaining.

Taylor made a rule that she’s allowed to repeat songs if she messes them up the first time or if they’re from Midnights , her most recent studio album.

It’s unclear if Taylor is going to continue these rules for the remainder of the tour as she’ll likely reach the point where she has no more songs left to perform!

Head inside to see the full list of remaining songs…

Taylor Swift The Eras Tour setlist: What songs will Taylor play?

How many songs does Taylor Swift play on the Eras Tour setlist?

The average Taylor Swift concert is around 2 hours long but The Eras Tour is a whole different beast... The concert is a whopping 3 hours and 15 minutes long, and Taylor performs a huge 45 tracks within that timeframe.

Not all the tracks are performed in full, though – some are shortened versions. There's also a couple of additional little interludes that pop up throughout the show.

For context, on the Rep tour, Taylor performed 19 tracks in total, including several mashups that featured some of her older songs. For The 1989 World Tour, she performed 18 songs, while 17 songs were performed on The Red Tour and the Speak Now World Tour.

**On July 7th and 8th, Taylor performed 'Long Live' after 'Enchanted'. The song has now officially been added to the full setlist.

***On July 22nd, Taylor replaced 'tis the damn season' so she could perform 'No Body, No Crime' with HAIM. 'Tis the damn season' returned to the main setlist on August 24th in Mexico City.

For all the shows where Phoebe Bridgers appeared as a support act, Taylor performed 'Nothing New' with her during the Red (TV) section.

Ice Spice joined Taylor on stage to perform 'Karma' on May 26th and May 27th in East Rutherford, NJ, in honour of the release of their new version of the song.

As of March 9th 2024, there is still no section on the tour dedicated to her debut album, Taylor Swift .

Taylor has 'reset' the surprise song list, which means anyone attending a show in 2024 can anticipate hearing a song she's already performed. She previously stated that she will only play each surprise song once during the tour, unless she messes one up.

There's also no rules for Taylor repeating songs from Midnights as surprise songs, which means fans may get to hear the likes of 'You're On Your Own Kid' and 'Snow on the Beach' again at some point in the future.

We'll update this article with every Surprise Acoustic Song – and every surprise song that she will play again – after every show.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department?

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist for the international shows?

As of March 9th 2024, the Eras Tour setlist has remained the same as the U.S. leg. However, with the release of The Tortured Poets Department in April, things could change. More on that further down the page.

Fans attending the European shows might end up hearing Taylor perform ' Castles Crumbling ' with Hayley Williams as an additional song during the Speak Now section, as Paramore will be supporting her throughout those tour dates. (Both Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM joined Taylor on stage to perform 'Nothing New' and 'No Body, No Crime' respectively on the nights they were support acts.)

After completing her shows in South America, Australia, Japan and Singapore, Taylor is now set to pick the tour back up in Europe in May 2024 and run through to mid-August, before returning to North America in November 2024.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department ?

Taylor's brand new album was released on April 19th, just before she embarks on the European leg of the Eras Tour. The full anthology version of the album includes a whopping 31 new songs.

We won't know for sure whether or not the official setlist will change to accommodate those songs until she kicks off the Eras Tour in Paris on May 9th.

It's unclear if she will add a new TTPD section to the tour, but it's looking very likely that Taylor will perform some of those new songs as surprise songs. We'll update this article as soon as we know more!

What are Taylor's most performed songs on tour?

Before she embarked on The Eras Tour, Taylor’s top 3 most performed songs are ‘Love Story’ (491 times), ‘Our Song’ (404 times) and ‘You Belong With Me’ (381 times).

Of course, almost all of Taylor’s most performed songs are from her first two albums. As the list goes on, the Speak Now bops, Red bangers and 1989 hits start to weave their way in.

If you’re wondering what Taylor’s most played songs from her first five albums are, here’s a break down:

  • Taylor Swift : ‘Our Song’, ‘Tim McGraw’ and ‘Picture To Burn’
  • Fearless: ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Fifteen’
  • Speak Now : ‘Sparks Fly’, ‘Mean’ and ‘Mine’
  • Red : ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ‘Red’
  • 1989 : ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Out of the Woods’

Taylor has only had the chance to perform songs from Reputation on the Reputation Stadium Tour so far, but ‘Ready For It?’, ‘Delicate’ and ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ take the top spots when it comes to live performances of the Rep tracks.

Due to the cancellation of Lover Fest, Taylor hasn’t been able to perform Lover on a tour setting. Folklore, Evermore and Midnights will also be making their tour debut on the Eras Tour.

Disney+'s version of Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' movie includes four new surprise songs.

Swifties Predicted The 4 New Surprise Songs In Disney+'s Eras Tour

Real ones knew.

The Eras Tour just got its biggest update ever with an extended version of Taylor Swift’s career-spanning concert now streaming on Disney+. The new cut of the movie features several new song additions that were not in the 2023 theatrical release , including four new surprise songs. Well, Swift may refer to her song-shifting acoustic set as “surprise songs ,” but when it came to this Disney+ drop, true fans already knew exactly which four tracks were going to be added.

Swift made sure to give her fans who’ve already seen The Eras Tour film a reason to tune into its streaming debut on Disney+ on March 14 . Prior to its release, she confirmed that the new version would include footage of her performing “Cardigan,” which had been cut from the previous movie , along with an additional four surprise songs from her ever-changing acoustic sets. The theatrical version of The Eras Tour showed Swift performing “Our Song” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid” in the surprise songs slot, and because of that, Swifties were immediately able to predict what these four new songs would be. And they were exactly right.

When The Eras Tour debuted on Disney+, these four added songs were revealed to be “I Can See You,” “You Are in Love,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” and “Maroon.” The reason these choices were not a shock to fans is because they were performed in Los Angeles during Swift’s Aug. 3-5 concerts, when professional cameras were spotted filming at the shows.

Disney+'s version of Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' movie includes four new surprise songs.

Since eagle-eyed fans already knew that all of the footage shown in the earlier Eras Tour movie was from Swift’s three concerts in Los Angeles, it was a given that her four added surprise songs would be the four acoustic performances she did not include in the initial film.

And of course, it’s not really the first time superfans have seen Swift perform these songs. Videos of Swift’s surprise acoustic sets tend to go viral each night of her Eras Tour, so true Swifties are already very well acquainted with the frenzy that erupted when she first sang “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” or with the emotions the took over the fandom during her “Maroon” live performance.

Every surprise song pairing Taylor Swift has performed on The Eras Tour, ranked

  • Taylor Swift sings two surprise songs at every stop on her Eras Tour.
  • The acoustic section changes from night to night with very few repeats.
  • Not every pairing is created equal. Insider's senior music editor ranked each set.

Insider Today

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour setlist goes album by album, incorporating her biggest hits, fan favorites, and deep cuts alike to give concertgoers the full picture of her expansive career.

But out of the three-plus-hour spectacle, it's the acoustic section that gets the most attention. At around 10:45 p.m. local time, Swift surprises each crowd with two songs that aren't meant to be replayed throughout the duration of the tour.

There are, in Swift's own words, exceptions to this rule: she's allowing herself to repeat any "Midnights" song she desires, and she'll redo whatever she messes up.

Some choices have been obvious ("High Infidelity" — with the lyric, "Do you really wanna know where I was April 29?" — was played on April 29, while Swift sang "The Best Day," which is about her mom Andrea Swift, on Mother's Day). Others have felt like a fresh surprise.

As Insider's senior music editor, I decided to rank all of these song pairings.

To determine the list below, I considered a variety of factors like critical and fan acclaim, lyrical quality, and how long it took to grieve the loss when I realized they wouldn't be played at my own show on May 28.

33. "Question…?" and "Invisible"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 20

Location:  Foxborough, Massachusetts

My friend and I were trying to get last-minute tickets to this show. We even had a rental car booked just in case we secured them, ready to drive nearly four hours from New Jersey to Foxborough.

Our plan failed, and I soon realized that was probably for the best. May 20 was a rain show, which meant thousands of people were standing in a torrential downpour for hours. And they were rewarded with... a just-OK "Midnights" track and one of the weakest songs from her debut album.

I am so sorry but I do not envy this crowd in the slightest and am actively glad I didn't spend hundreds of dollars to be there.

32. "A Place in This World" and "Today Was a Fairytale"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 22

Location:  Houston, Texas

My sincere condolences to all those in attendance on April 22, but I laughed so hard when I saw she played these two subpar tracks from her early career.

But hey, at least anyone who got this pairing can say they experienced all 10 eras. Swift's self-titled debut album isn't represented in the standard setlist, so only audiences who get a song off "Taylor Swift" get the whole shebang.

It also wasn't cold and wet when Houston got to witness these, so they'll always have that over Foxborough night two.

31. "Cowboy Like Me" with Marcus Mumford and "White Horse"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  March 25

Location:  Las Vegas, Nevada

I know this is going to be controversial, but I am a "Cowboy Like Me" hater. I find it excruciatingly drab and stand by my initial review that it "should've been left off the album."

So Swift singing "Cowboy Like Me" was like opening the penny case on "Deal or No Deal."

If you were at that show and love the "Evermore" track, I am so beyond thrilled that it was you who got it, and not me. I would not have appreciated it at all.

"White Horse" is good, but there are stronger "Fearless" tracks, too.

30. "Sad Beautiful Tragic" and "Ours"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  March 31

Location:  Arlington, Texas

When Swift introduced "Sad Beautiful Tragic," she said, "I love this one. When I love a song I don't care what anyone says."

On March 31, I sent that line to senior music reporter Callie Ahlgrim with a message that said, "That quote is a diss at me."

I also sent her another text that said, "I do like 'Ours' — no disrespect to 'Ours' — but full disrespect to 'Sad Beautiful Tragic.'"

As I wrote about the "Red" deep cut in 2019, "The song drags on — not because Swift has a lot to say like she usually does — but because she felt the need to sing a variation of the title 11 times as slowly as she could."

29. "You All Over Me" with Maren Morris and "I Don't Want to Live Forever"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date: June 3

Location: Chicago, Illinois

This is one of the most random pairings Swift has played throughout the Eras Tour. It's a vault track from "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" — and not even the best one, that's "Mr. Perfectly Fine" — and something from the "Fifty Shades Darker" soundtrack.

Definitely a surprise, but maybe not the one many people would have wanted. Even if I am pulling for "I Don't Want to Live Forever" to make it onto "Reputation (Taylor's Version)."

28. "Our Song" and "Snow on the Beach"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  March 24

I promise this list gets better after this, but "Snow on the Beach" is so boring.

"Our Song," though, is a hit and should've been included on the actual setlist.

27. "Wonderland" and "You're Not Sorry"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 21

The "1989" deluxe track and the "Fearless" song weren't my top picks for what I'd want to hear, but they're both pretty solid songs.

They also are both pre-"Lover" so there's an additional layer of nostalgia that would probably thrill any concertgoer who has been aching to see either song for years.

26. "Jump Then Fall" and "The Lucky One"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 2

Location: Arlington, Texas

"The Lucky One," as Swift described it in Arlington, is about how horrible it is to be famous. Swift maneuvers that thesis well, but I stand firm that complaining about fame in a song is usually not accessible to the vast majority of people listening to it.

That said, "Jump Then Fall" is so fun, and, as a "Fearless" deluxe track, fairly rare to hear live.

25. "Mad Woman" with Aaron Dessner and "Mean"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 15

Location:  Tampa, Florida

"Mad Woman" is one of the weaker tracks off "Folklore" — but it's still an exceptional song in Swift's arsenal. Throw in an appearance from Aaron Dessner and a beloved "Speak Now" track, and you've got a really solid surprise-song pairing.

24. "I Bet You Think About Me" and "How You Get the Girl"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 30

Location:  Atlanta, Georgia

This one's tricky because I consider "How You Get the Girl" as one of the worst songs in all of Swift's discography , but "I Bet You Think About Me" is an absolute banger.

I was personally devastated when "IBYTAM" was crossed off the surprise-song list, but I'm glad I didn't have to hear Swift encourage some pathetic ex-boyfriend to pester a woman into getting back together with him.

23. "High Infidelity" and "Gorgeous"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 29

Further exposing my personal taste, "Gorgeous" is fun and silly and one of my favorite songs off "Reputation." It was a great way to introduce Swift's sixth album into the surprise-song segment of the tour.

"High Infidelity," with its line "Do you really want to know where I was April 29th?" may have been predicted to be played on April 29 by just about everybody, but sometimes it's nice to know what this mastermind is going to do next.

22. "Begin Again" and "Cold as You"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 23

"Begin Again" and "Cold as You" are both emotive breakup songs, with the latter giving Swift's first-ever album some time to shine during the show. Can't be mad at it!

21. "All You Had to Do Was Stay" and "Breathe"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  June 10

Location:  Detroit, Michigan

Swift wiped away a tear after playing "Breathe" on the piano for the crowd in Detroit. This was a very emotional pairing.

20. "Haunted" and "I Almost Do"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  June 9

I know several people who fell to their knees once "Haunted" was taken out of the surprise-song rotation.

As one of my friends texted me on June 10, the "Speak Now" song "still slaps."

Swift doubled down on the heartbreak by chasing it with another gut-wrenching breakup song, "I Almost Do."

19. "Gold Rush" and "Come Back…Be Here"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 12

Location:  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

"Gold Rush" in Philadelphia was also expected, thanks to the lines "I see me padding 'cross your wooden floors / With my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door."

Swift confirmed the lyric was referring to the football team, not the band.

But just because something's predictable, doesn't mean it's bad. "Gold Rush" is killer.

Back when we reviewed "Evermore," I wrote, "There's a bustling energy that ripples through the track in a way unlike anything Swift has ever produced, elevated exponentially by the best vocal delivery of her career thus far.

Rounding out this pair was "Come Back…Be Here," an aching, yearning deluxe track from "Red," that likely thrilled several people at Swift's hometown show.

18. "I Wish You Would" and "The Lakes"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date: June 2

These are both two magical deep cuts — Swift even exclaimed, "Oh my God, you know it!" while performing "I Wish You Would."

In the lead-up to our own concert, both of these were thrown around as ones my friends and I would be happy to hear.

17. "Out of the Woods" and "Fifteen"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 6

Location:  Nashville, Tennessee

Banger after banger. These are two widely known, absolutely beloved songs that are great to scream-sing along to. Swift put her all into those Nashville shows.

16. "Speak Now" and "Treacherous"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 13

Oh to have been in the Raymond James Stadium when Swift sang "Treacherous."

I've already waxed poetic about the third song on "Red" before. It's a "brilliantly written song that exemplifies exactly why Swift is one of the best songwriters of her generation."

Honestly, the title track from Swift's third album is actually doing more harm than good here. If she had picked a stronger song to pair "Treacherous" with, it easily could've cracked the top 10 on this list. Some songs like "Dear John," "Clean," or "Cornelia Street" could've even elevated it to No. 1.

Regardless, that audience got one of Swift's greatest songs to date.

15. "Forever & Always" and "This Love"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 13

Location:  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Just an incredibly strong duo. Both songs are well-written, but they're also different enough from each other to offer the audience some variety. "Forever & Always" is sassy and scathing, while "This Love" is wistful and atmospheric.

14. "The Great War" with Aaron Dessner and "You're on Your Own, Kid"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 14

These are two incredible songs in Swift's catalog, but they're also both from the "Midnights" era, meaning they haven't had as long to grow on fans — and have the ability to be repeated.

Since we can't ever  really lose them like we can older tracks, they're less of a loss.

13. "Hey Stephen" and "The Best Day"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 14

It's not often that Swift plays two surprise songs from the same album.

But for a hometown show on Mother's Day, nothing was more fitting than singing the "Fearless"-era ode to her mom, "The Best Day," and another song from her teen years.

Honestly, I would've cried if I were there.

12. "Sparks Fly" and "Teardrops on My Guitar"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 5

The first Eras Tour stop in Nashville will go down as one of the most unhinged nights in Swiftie history.

Opener Phoebe Bridgers brought out the rest of boygenius during her set. Swift's rumored new boyfriend  Matty Healy was there to the chagrin of many fans. Swift announced the impending release of "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)."

To celebrate dropping her next rerecording on July 7, Swift sang a fan favorite from the album, "Sparks Fly." She stuck to her country roots and followed it up with "Teardrops on My Guitar." Both are wistful, nostalgic, and beyond fun to sing.

Their only downside was they were completely overshadowed by every other surprise throughout the night.

11. "Welcome to New York" and "Clean"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 28

Location: East Rutherford, New Jersey

I was in the audience for this show, in the first row of section seven. I was a mere few feet away, watching on as Swift opened her mouth for what we all thought would be an introduction (or "Cornelia Street"). Instead, she uttered the lines, "Walkin' through a crowd, the village is aglow."

At the moment, it felt like a sick joke. Many of us deluded ourselves into thinking she was using it as an intro to another song. There was no way she was going to welcome the MetLife crowd to New York on her final night in New Jersey.

In hindsight, it was the funniest thing she could've possibly done and I appreciate a good joke.

But the thing about this pairing is that if I had to rank all of Swift's songs from best to worst, the "1989" closer "Clean" would land within the top four (which also contains two songs already on the setlist.)

There may be stronger pairings on this list, but personally, there are not many single songs I would prefer to hear over "Clean."

10. "I Think He Knows" and "Red"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 21

Both of these songs are enjoyable and it's special that they were both played on guitar.

Due to the rain the night before, Swift's piano was malfunctioning on this Sunday so she recalibrated and gave the crowd an additional deviation from her standard fare.

9. "Holy Ground" and "False God"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 27

Location:  East Rutherford, New Jersey

I nearly started crying in a beer garden when I pulled up Twitter and saw she played these two songs just one night before the show I was attending.

This is an excellent pairing. No notes.

8. "Mirrorball" and "Tim McGraw"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  March 17

Location:  Glendale, Arizona

The very first night of Swift's Eras Tour conned us all into believing "Tim McGraw" was on the setlist, meant to represent her first album.

Instead, her debut single was immediately lost forever to the rest of us who weren't in attendance.

A song about being a performer and the track that started her entire career was a poetic pairing to kick off the tour with.

7. "Getaway Car" with Jack Antonoff and "Maroon"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 26

"Getaway Car" is a huge fan favorite and "Maroon" is one of the biggest highlights on "Midnights." This was one of those nights that devastated a million Swifties around the world.

I literally woke up on Saturday to a text from a man who has no stake in any of this that just said, "Maroon?!?!?"

6. "The Other Side of the Door" and "Coney Island"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 28

No song has come back stronger during the rerecordings than "The Other Side of the Door." It felt like no one even knew it until "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" breathed new life into it and reminded Swifties that the outro is one for the ages.

She followed it up with "Coney Island," one of her most stunning breakup songs ever written.

5. "Would've, Could've, Should've" with Aaron Dessner and "Mine"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 7

Location:  Nashville, Tennessee

I didn't necessarily envy anyone who attended Nashville night three — that is, until Swift brought Aaron Dessner out around 1 a.m. in the pouring rain to sing "Would've, Could've, Should've."

This crowd did have to forgo an opening set from Phoebe Bridgers and sit around waiting an extra two hours for the storm to let up enough for Swift to perform, but her strongest soldiers fought for the right to scream the best "Midnights" track in the middle of the night. They deserved it.

4. "State of Grace" and "This Is Me Trying"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  March 18

The second stop of the tour knocked out two great songs before we even registered that we weren't going to get to hear many of these songs again, and that there were actually two surprise songs each night.

As I previously wrote of "This Is Me Trying," it "stings like alcohol on an open wound. It hurts as it heals. It makes no judgment about the state you're in; all it needs you to understand is 'this is me trying.'"

It stung to lose it, along with the fan favorite "State of Grace."

3. "Should've Said No" and "Better Man"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  May 19

Swift woke up mad as hell on May 19 and she made it anyone who wasn't at Gillette Stadium's problem by robbing the rest of us the chance to see her perform the debut-era banger "Should've Said No" and the "Red (Taylor's Version)" scorcher "Better Man."

2. "Hits Different" and "The Moment I Knew"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date: June 4

Location:  Chicago, Illinois

Not only did the third night of Chicago get to experience one of the biggest highlights from the "Midnights" era, but it also got the first-ever live performance of one of the most heart-wrenching tracks in Swift's entire catalog.

"The Moment I Knew" was originally released back in 2012, and it's taken 11 years for her to play it to a crowd. This audience really was the lucky one.

1. "Death by a Thousand Cuts" and "Clean"

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Date:  April 1

Location: Arlington, Texas

Instead of pranking the 70,000 people who attended the Eras Tour on her second night in Arlington, Swift decided to play the most casually cruel April Fool's joke on all of her fans who didn't secure tickets to this stop on the tour by playing two of her best songs ever written.

As I wrote earlier in this list, there are not many songs I'd rather hear than "Clean." This crowd got it  and one of the only live performances of her most screamable breakup song, "Death by a Thousand Cuts."

The Eras Tour still has plenty of dates left, but I fear it's going to be nearly impossible to top this duo.

Taylor Swift

So why exactly does Taylor Swift do Surprise songs on The Eras tour? Every night, the “Love Story” singer strips it down to an acoustic set featuring her piano and guitar and sometimes special guests. “The plan, the goal, would be to play different songs every single night and never repeat one. Right? So that when you heard one on this tour, you would know it’s the only time that I was going to play it in the acoustic set, unless — caveat — unless I mess it up so badly,” she said during her first Eras tour concert in Glendale, Arizona, “that I have to do it over again in some other city. Send your best wishes towards me that I don’t do that.”

How Taylor Swift chooses her Surprise Songs for Eras Tours

Taylor Swift

How does Taylor Swift choose her surprise songs for each Eras tour date? Like Taylor said, there shouldn’t be a circumstance where a song is played twice (unless she messes up on the first try). Taylor’s ten album repetoire is wide enough that there’s songs enough to cover more than 50 dates.

🎥| @TaylorSwift13 debuts "Snow On The Beach" performance pic.twitter.com/K87w73cPNm — The Swift Society (@TheSwiftSociety) March 25, 2023

The day after she dedicated her surprise song to fellow singer Lana Del Rey who featured on the song “Snow on The Beach.” “Lana Del Rey put out a new album. It’s called Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd . Guys, it’s so good. You probably already know that, but it’s just extraordinary. I just think she’s the best that we have. I think we need to make it a priority as a group to stream, buy, support this album and this artist. She knows I’m obsessed with her, and she was kind enough to make a song with me on Midnights called ‘Snow on the Beach’ because she’s a generous king. She did that for me, and I’ll never forget how nice she’s been to me. It’s so cool when you have favorite artists and they turn out to be so nice to you. I wanted to just do some promo for her, and also, in honor of this brilliant album that she just put out, I wanted to play ‘Snow on the Beach.’” She performed the song for the first time.

She also brought out frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff during her New Jersey dates. “I know you’ve wanted to hear this song,” Swift teased before playing the fan fave “Getaway Car”. “He’s been one of my best friends — he feels like a family member,” Swift said while welcoming “Jersey’s own” Jack Antonoff.

Taylor Swift - The Eras Tour

Surprise songs tracker.

A Brazilian-born, Berlin-based swiftie who's been a fan of Taylor's work since 2008, I'm very proud to have created this website. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed building it! Feel free to get in touch with suggestions, feedback, or just to say hi. I'd love to hear from you!

This website displays all albums Taylor's put out so far each divided into three categories: Surprise, Fixed, and Unplayed. The Surprise section showcases the songs she's already performed (even the ones she's already repeated), leaving you wondering for what might come next. The Fixed category features the must-hear songs that grace every concert, ensuring you don't miss out on any of the classics. Lastly, the Unplayed section builds up anticipation as it lists the songs Taylor has yet to unveil on this tour.

By clicking on the surprise songs, a magical modal window appears, revealing details such as the date and location of the performance. But that's not all! To make your experience even more exciting, each surprise song comes with a special TikTok fan video capturing the unforgettable moments from that particular performance. It's like having a front-row seat to Taylor's concert!

I'll be at the Eras Tour in São Paulo nights 2 & 3, Münich night 1, and Milan night 1. See you there!

Will Taylor Swift add 'Tortured Poets' to international Eras Tour? Our picks.

A double album. Thirty one songs. Two hours and two minutes. In the spaces between the international, record- breaking Eras Tour, Taylor Swift released her 11th era: "The Tortured Poets Department." But will the behemoth tour make room for the newest addition to Swift's vast catalog and how?

"The Tortured Poets Department" showcases the singer's mastery to connect words like puzzle pieces seamlessly depicting the human experience and complex themes of false wedding promises, relationship imprisonment, break-ups and drug escapism, religion versus rebellion, childhood retrospection and the duality of internally suffering while externally performing. It would be a surprise for her not to push this body of art into the spotlight.

But how it fits into the 44-song three hour and 15-minute Eras tour is anyone's guess. And we won't find out until she resumes the tour on May 9 in Paris. I'll be there.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Read Melissa Ruggieri's review Taylor Swift's 'Tortured Poets' is hauntingly brilliant, even the 15 surprise songs

Whether or not she's incorporating the era has already been decided. Swift is 13 steps ahead . She plans her moves years in advance. There is a two-month break from the tour and she has been spending time in Los Angeles. Her team of dancers have not been as active on social media possibly because they're rehearsing a new set. Or maybe it's a coincidence?

The simplest path would be to absorb some of the the 31 songs into the acoustic set that comes after "Bad Blood" during the "1989" era. Swift has used the 2024 surprise songs to play mash-ups on the guitar and the piano. It's when she makes announcements and it's a custom gift to concertgoers and fans watch in envy on livestreams from around the world.

'Tortured Poets' release live updates What to know as Taylor Swift's new album debuts

More likely, she will add a "Tortured Poets" set. The show is segmented, allowing a new era to squeeze in. She could open the show with the new era, although "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince's" opening line is a perfect opening for an artist who has released seven albums and hasn't seen fans: "It's been a long time coming." She could end the show with the set, but "Karma" is a good show closer.

Cue the confetti. If she ends the tour with "Tortured Poets," I'm guessing "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" is the closer.

The writing shines bright like Swift's glittering sequin stars which is reminiscent of and relative to "Folklore" and "Evermore." For the flow of the concert, it makes more sense to not place "Tortured Poets" next to these albums. The show flows with a narrative that spans almost two decades with highs and lows of energy. Two areas that could be good: after "Reputation" and before "Speak Now" or after the secret songs and before "Midnights." Maybe she dives into the stage to swim to the an asylum of typewriters and tormented thoughts.

The four eras with the most amount of songs are the latest records she owned that aren't re-records: "Lover" (six songs), "Folklore" (seven songs), "Evermore" (five songs) and "Midnights" (seven songs). Will she follow that flow? Will she cut songs from these eras?

I could see her performing the lead single "Fortnight," title track "The Tortured Poets Department," Eras Tour song "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," "Down Bad," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me," "thanK you aIMee" and "So High School."

Swift holds the answer key. Sixty-nine shows are left on the recording shattering magnum opus for 2024.

Will Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Setlist Change After ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Release?

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 001

Taylor Swift ’s The Tortured Poets Department has already captivated the world , leaving her fans to wonder whether any of the new songs will pop up on her Eras Tour setlist.

Swift, 34, kicked off her three-hour concert series in March 2023 in Arizona, soon traversing the United States, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. The shows highlight most of her past albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights . There also is a section dedicated to “surprise songs,” where Swift adds two new acoustic renditions (most recently, mash-ups) to the show.

Swift has been on hiatus since early March, weeks before The Tortured Poets Department dropped on Friday, April 19. The record, her 11th studio album, features 31 songs including “Fortnight,” “So Long, London,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “So High School” and “thanK you aIMee.”

Swift’s fans planning to see Eras later this year — the tour leg kicks off in Paris on Thursday, May 9 — have since taken to social media, curious if they will be able to hear any TTPD live.

“OK listen I NEED Taylor to add ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ to the Eras Tour setlist. … Just that ONE. … PLEASE. … It was MADE for the Eras Tour !!!!!!!!!!” a social media user wrote via X.

Another added, “I am so obsessed with Taylor’s new album idk how to survive the Eras Tour (if I actually go twice I might just drop dead afterwards).”

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 002

Since Eras has sections dedicated to Swift’s previous albums , it is possible that TTPD could get its own mini-set in the lineup. Not all of her preexisting cohorts feature the same amount of songs, so Swift could cut some songs in order to add a time for Tortured Poets additions .

Spotify added further fuel to the fire on Friday as Swifties noticed the streaming platform’s official video for “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” a TTPD track, features footage solely from the Eras Tour.

Swift’s musical director David Cook , who has also been featured on several of her past LPs, also hinted that TTPD songs could make an appearance on the tour lineup.

“Not sure how much I can add to the discourse other than this album is really REALLY good. You FEEL it,” Cook wrote via Instagram on Friday, quoting “Loml” with a mind-blown emoji.

According to eagle-eyed Swifties that captured screenshots, Cook also wrote, “Wait until you hear the live versions.” The addition, however, has since been deleted.

Of course, it is also possible that Swift will drop a TTPD single in her surprise song section.

“How will The Tortured Poets Department affect the Eras Tour ? Hopefully only on surprise songs (in a good way),” an X user theorized.

While Swift has yet to address if TTPD will affect her Eras Tour setlist, she’s given fans insight into how she picks song s for the acoustic section.

“This has become my favorite part of the show because it’s become very chaotic and it’s become a challenge for me to think of new things to do for every single city,” Swift told the crowd in Singapore in March. “And hope that I’m doing something that you guys might like. It’s been a blast!”

Per the Grammy winner, she “invented [her] crazy acoustic section,” to be able to play “as many songs” as she could way over the 44 staples at each show. Adding TTPD tracks there seems like an easy way to do just that, if you ask Us.

The Tortured Poets Department is out now and Swift’s Eras Tour resumes on Thursday, May 9.

Taylor Swift shocker: New album, "The Tortured Poets Department," is actually a double album

By Alex Sundby , Brian Dakss

Updated on: April 19, 2024 / 10:28 PM EDT / CBS News

Anticipation was growing at a fever pitch before Taylor Swift's latest album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," dropped at midnight EDT. But the pop superstar had a huge surprise on tap: It's actually a double album.

When Part One dropped, Swift wrote on Instagram , "All's fair in love and poetry... New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out now 🤍"

Then came the shocker, revealed in an Instagram post saying , "It's a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️ I'd written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here's the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn't mine anymore… it's all yours. 🤍."

What's Taylor Swift's new album about?

Swift described the album as "new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure."

She also said that time has been "closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted."

"Entertainment Tonight" correspondent Denny Directo called the record some of her most vulnerable work.

"Fans were left with more questions than there were answers, so good luck trying to decipher who these songs are about, what they mean," Directo told CBS News. "… I feel like there's more heartbreak songs on this than there are love songs."

Hours ahead of the record's release, Swift said on social media that its first single was "Fortnight," featuring Post Malone, and its music video was released Friday night .

Swift praised the Grammy-nominated artist's musical experimentation and melodies "that just stick in your head forever."

"I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight," Swift said in her post .

"Fortnight" isn't the only track on the album on which Swift worked with another artist. Florence and The Machine is also featured.

What's on "The Tortured Poets Department" tracklist?

Vinyl industry rep says pandemic-era manufacturing bottlenecks have eased

t swift eras tour surprise songs

"The Tortured Poets Department" is set to be released in special-edition "ghost"-colored vinyl, available both directly through Swift's website and exclusively at Target.

During the pandemic, that might have alarmed vinyl record buyers. As vinyl plants shuttered and employees were sidelined, vinyl production ground to a halt, causing reports of weekslong backlogs and orders going unfulfilled outright.

But in an interview with NBC News on Friday, Dustin Blocker, president of the Vinyl Records Manufacturing Association, said those issues have been resolved and that suppliers now have more than enough capacity to handle any orders coming their way, including massive ones like Swift's.

"In Q3 2023, we saw the [production] timeline start to go back to normal," Blocker said. "And in Q4 it really got back to normal. Now, everyone, including the huge plants, takes only 8-12 weeks [to produce] ... so it's very good news for everyone."

Blocker said any price increases on the supply side sparked by the bottlenecks have essentially reversed.

So, the $40 price tag on the Target edition of "TTPD" is most likely the result of choices made by Swift, her label and the retailer, he said.

Taylor Swift reveals ‘Dateline’ as an inspiration for ‘Florida!!!’

Maddie Ellis, TODAY

Taylor Swift has taken over radio stations, from Channel 13 on SiriusXM to iHeartRadio briefly renaming itself to iHeartTaylor and sharing messages from the songwriter.

Swift revealed in a soundbite played on iHeartRadio that “Florida!!!” — the eighth track of the album and featuring Florence + the Machine — was inspired by “Dateline.”

“I’m always watching, like ‘Dateline,’” Swift said with a laugh. “People, you know, have these crimes that they commit where they immediately skip town and go to Florida. They try to reinvent themselves, have a new identity, blend in.”

It’s the same with heartbreak, she said.

“I think when you go through a heartbreak, there’s a part of you that thinks, ‘I want a new name. I want a new life,’” she said.

Or perhaps in Swift’s case — a new era?

The double album appeared to avoid leaks

Kaetlyn Liddy

The standard edition of "The Tortured Poets Department" is said to have been leaked ahead the album's release. The origin of the apparent leaks is unclear, but none of the songs on the extended "anthology" version of the album seem to have been compromised.

Leaks of major artists' work sometimes occur when physical copies of the album arrive prematurely at record stores or department stores, before the tracks are released on streaming platforms. Fans suspect the surprise drop of the double album was a factor in the 15 extra tracks avoiding leaks.

The extra content was so unexpected that the lyrics of the anthology version have yet to be uploaded to Spotify .

‘The Tortured Poets Department’ broke a Spotify record in 12 hours

"The Tortured Poets Department" is already Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day this year, edging out Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" in less than 12 hours, Spotify confirmed to NBC News.

Swift currently holds the all-time record for most streams in a day by album and by artist for 2022's "Midnights."

Who are The Blue Nile? About the Scottish band named by Swift

In the album's ninth track — "Guilty as Sin?" — Swift name-drops a beloved '80s Scottish band, The Blue Nile.

"Drowning in The Blue Nile. He sent me 'Downtown Lights.' I hadn’t heard it in a while," Swift says in the song.

"Downtown Lights," released in 1989, was the peak of The Blue Nile's commercial success in the U.S., with the song reaching No. 10 on the Billboard American Modern Rock Tracks chart. 1989 is also Swift's birth year and the title of her fifth studio album.

Known for their avoidance of publicity, The Blue Nile has released just four albums since forming in 1981.

Fans share their theories and joy on social media

It wouldn't be a new Taylor Swift album without fans wondering who it's about or decoding the names mentioned in each song. (Who is Cassandra , Taylor?)

That speculation will surely continue, but now that the album is out, fans can't believe their luck. Reactions on social media praised the sonic and lyrical range of the album, saying that "everybody gets everything," whether you listen to Swift for her synth-pop hits or her intimate folk songs.

Author and creator John Green couldn't wait to wake up his daughter to tell her she gets 31 new Taylor Swift songs today.

Taylor Swift has offered fans a glimpse into the creative process behind "The Tortured Poets Society" and the emotions that inspired it.

In a press release Friday morning to accompany the new release, the artist said:

"The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.

"This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.

"This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.

"And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry."

Surprise: a double album!

"The Tortured Poets Department" is a secret DOUBLE album.

"I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology," she wrote on X . "15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours."

Couples are now wary of Swift's 'Lover' as a love song

Elena Nicolaou, TODAY

“Lover” — at least until recently — was widely received as one of Swift’s classic love songs. When the album of the same name came out in 2019, its title single was declared  first dance song material , or even a “ wedding waltz .”

In the song, Swift paints a portrait of quiet intimacy. Her wild “Red” days, of thrilling romances with highs and lows and uncertainties in between, had settled into something steadier with one person, captured by a simple chorus: “You’re my, my, my, my lover.”

But that interpretation is now in question, as Swift recasts some of her songs in a different light. Ahead of the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,”  she released five playlists on Apple Music , sorting old songs into groups inspired by the five stages of grief, or “heartbreak.”

Aaron Dessner is credited as a songwriter on five of 16 tracks

Dessner, who is a member of the bands The National and Big Red Machine, is one of two producers who worked on "The Tortured Poets Department."

He's credited as a songwriter on five of the 16 tracks on the standard album.

Dessner first collaborated with Swift on her eighth studio album, “Folklore,” for which he shared in the Grammy win for album of the year. He made several guest appearances with Swift on the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour, joining her onstage during the acoustic set for performances of songs they wrote together.

Here's what some critics are saying in their reviews

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Angela Yang

The critics have spoken. Here's a roundup of some of their takeaways on "The Tortured Poets Department."

Billboard ’s Jason Lipshutz praised Swift’s boldness for releasing a “knowingly messy, wildly unguarded breakup album” at what’s arguably the peak of her career. It's more mature than her past heartbreak albums, he writes, and “not everyone will love it, but the ones who get it will adore it fiercely.”

Variety ’s Chris Willman wrote that the album can serve as an “unapologetically dramatic” soundtrack to listeners’ own heartbreaks.

Labeling it Swift’s most personal album yet, Rolling Stone ’s Rob Sheffield described it as “the cathartic confession of a woman who thought she had adulthood — and adult romance — all figured out, only to find herself realizing she knows nothing.”

And unlike on past albums, Swift doesn’t portray herself as a victim in this one, wrote the Los Angeles Times ’ Mikael Wood. Instead, the album emanates “a proudly villainous energy as Swift embraces her messiest and most chaotic tendencies.”

Jack Antonoff, Swift's longtime collaborator, posts love for album

Antonoff, Swift’s longtime collaborator and friend, shared his love for the new album on X .

"Love this album more than I can say," wrote Antonoff, who worked on “The Tortured Poets Department” as a producer.

Antonoff also co-wrote eight of the album's tracks.

Swifties are starting to post reax on X

In typical fashion after a Swift album drops, reactions from fans are pouring in online, and they TEND TO COME IN ALL CAPS.

Spotify appears to be holding it together (so far)

Shoutout to the engineers and people behind the scenes who are probably working overtime to make sure Swifties don't panic.

Swift releases statement after album drop

In her first social media post after “The Tortured Poets Department” was released, Swift shared a statement about the album online.

These songs reflect her experiences from a moment in time that was equally “sensational and sorrowful,” she wrote, adding that it is a chapter now closed.

“Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it,” Swift wrote. “And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”

Who is Clara Bow?

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Daniel Arkin

The 16th and final track on the album is named for Clara Bow, one of the leading lights of Hollywood’s silent era.

Bow, unlike a lot of stars from the 1920s, managed to successfully pivot to roles in talkies by the end of the decade. She co-starred in “Wings” (1927), which today is probably best known as the first movie to win the Oscar for best picture.

I’m not a Swiftie, so I don’t have much insight into how Taylor’s music connects to Bow’s acting career — but I’m curious how this track will be interpreted by the die-hards.

Bars, venues hold special Swift parties

On the eve of Swift’s album drop, event venues across the country (and around the world) hosted release parties so Swifties could get their first listen of the “The Tortured Poets Department” on the dance floor.

At Pianos in New York, music from across Swift’s discography will play until the new album drops at midnight. Attendees are encouraged to come in themed outfits and friendship bracelets, and the bar will be serving Swift-inspired cocktails.

In Los Angeles, El Cid is hosting a listening party complete with fan-made merch, giveaways and a themed wall for photos. Attendees can also expect performances from drag queen Jade Jolie, who appeared in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video.

Several Swiftie-themed events are also being held across the Washington, D.C., area, according to The Washington Post, which compiled a list .

A Swiftie mom and daughter are hosting their own album party

Kristie Gilmore, 36, is ready to celebrate with her daughter, who was born shortly after Swift's “1989” album and has been a Swiftie ever since.

Kristie Gilmore is hosting a TTPD party in the suburbs of Boston.

Gilmore decorated her Boston-area apartment with balloons, signs and stickers in the color palette of “The Tortured Poets Department.” She sprinkled the table with handmade confetti of the album’s logo and made TTPD-themed “membership cards” for themselves and each of her daughter’s friends.

“They’ve been counting down since Taylor announced this album,” Gilmore said, adding, “They’re just hanging out, having a dance party. They’re gonna try to stay up till midnight and listen to it.”

What are the track lengths?

The average track length on “The Tortured Poets Department” is 4 minutes and 4 seconds, making it the third longest album across Swift’s discography.

The longest song is “But Daddy I Love Him,” which clocks in at 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

“I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” is the shortest song, at 2 minutes and 36 seconds.

Travis Kelce shared his early thoughts about the album

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, weighed in on the new album.

“I have heard some of it, yes. It is unbelievable,”  Kelce said . “I can’t wait for her to shake up the world when it finally drops.”

Swift's music is back on TikTok despite UMG dispute

Some songs that Swift fans know “All Too Well” returned to TikTok this month, months after they were removed.

The songs were among the many tracks Universal Music Group pulled off TikTok after the label and the platform  failed to reach an agreement  this year. (UMG has no relationship to NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News.)

UMG, known as one of the “Big Three” global music companies, cleared its music from TikTok in late January, saying it was doing so because of a lack of compensation for artists and songwriters. TikTok previously fired back at UMG, accusing the company of putting “their own greed above the interests of artists and songwriters.”

The economics of 'The Tortured Poets Department'

Doha Madani

Die-hard Taylor Swift fans will be spending a pretty penny on her latest album release as she releases four variants of the album with one exclusive track each.

Each variant of “The Tortured Poets Department” is named after the bonus song found at the end of the album: “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross” and “The Black Dog.” If a fan wanted to collect them all, the minimum for $13.99 CDs at a store would cost at least $55.96 before taxes.

Longtime Swifties are already familiar with her tendency to provide deluxe editions, as anyone who was around for her original “1989” release can recall the Target exclusive that included three bonus tracks and three voice memos recorded by Swift.

Her “Midnights” release included a Target exclusive track that was added to streaming only months later, and in May she released a new song on “Midnights (The Late Night Edition).” But this is the first time Swift has put an exclusive song on each individual variant, with no clear timeline for when they might be added to streaming.

2024: The year of Post Malone and the pop girlies

Fresh off of a collab with Beyoncé on "LEVII'S JEANS" from her now-famed "Cowboy Carter," Post Malone finds himself on another major release of 2024: Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department."

He joins Swift on the album's first song, "Fortnight." Swift announced that "Fortnight" would be the album's lead single and the song for which she is releasing a music video 8 o'clock tomorrow night.

"I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever," Swift wrote on social media. "I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight."

While best known for more rap-focused songs, Post Malone is clearly making the rounds in the pop music scene, having also recently collaborated with Noah Kahan on "Dial Drunk." But his back-to-back appearances on arguably two of the biggest albums from pop artists this year raise the questions: Is Post Malone becoming a pop girlie? Is he just having a moment? Or is it all of the above?

There's a book about Swift's impact headed to bookshelves

Rolling Stone writer and music historian Rob Sheffield's book "Heartbreak Is the National Anthem: How Taylor Swift Reinvented Pop Music" will debut Nov. 12.

He's expected to dive further into Swift’s music and fan connection.

Swifties are celebrating with their own listening parties

Many Swifties are sharing their elaborate party setups online as they prepare to celebrate the album release at home.

Karen Rothdeutsch, 25, has decked out her bedroom in upstate New York with “The Tortured Poets Department”-themed decorations, complete with a platter of homemade cupcakes decorated to match Swift’s various vinyl variants.

swiftie party

“I just made my space a little more immersive for my first listen,” Rothdeutsch told NBC News. “I’ll be sitting in my bed with a box of tissues and a notebook, writing down my thoughts and probably checking into Twitter every so often to see what everybody’s thinking about it.”

She said she procured the decorations over the course of several weeks, but the whole setup cost her less than $100. While she decorates on a budget, she said she did splash out on the vinyl variants and collector’s edition CDs.

Swift's new album is already breaking a Spotify record

Spotify said on X that the “The Tortured Poets Department” became the most pre-saved album countdown page in the streaming service’s history.

Since its launch on March 28, TTPD's countdown page has ticked down to the album’s drop, now just hours away.

Was Swift's Grammys dress a 'Fortnight' Easter egg?

The white gown Swift wore to the 2024 Grammys, where she announced "The Tortured Poets Department," appears to have been an Easter egg.

taylor swift full length whote dress red carpet grammys

Swift appears to be wearing a very similar dress in the teaser for the "Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)" music video, which will debut 8 p.m. ET tomorrow.

Swift was also pictured hugging Post Malone at the ceremony. Some fans online pointed out a similar shot of the two singers that appears in the teaser for the music video.

Swift drops 'Fortnight' music video teaser

Swift blessed fans with a teaser for “Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)," the album's first single.

"At this hearing, I stand before my fellow members of The Tortured Poets Department with a summary of my findings. Album tonight. Fortnight music video tomorrow at 8pm et," Swift wrote in a post on X , which was accompanied by a short video clip.

The black-and-white teaser gave a sneak peak of the visuals for the music video. It's a combination of dramatic period gowns and a bleak medical setting in this supercut that is reminiscent of "Poor Things," which Swift's longtime friend Emma Stone recently won the best actress Oscar for.

Swift had announced she'd be dropping a music video at 8 p.m. ET tomorrow by sharing a “TTPD Timetable” on her Instagram page this week.

Merch is here — and already selling out

Hours before the album’s release, themed merchandise for “The Tortured Poets Department” is now available to order online.

The merch drop includes hoodies, crewnecks and gold jewelry branded with the album’s logo. A display case for the album vinyls seemingly sold out within minutes.

ICYMI: The Eras Tour concert film is on Disney+

In case you need something to do as you count down to the new album, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is on Disney+. Swift announced the film would be available for streaming in February.

The film features all songs from the three Los Angeles tour dates during which it was filmed at SoFi Stadium. They include “cardigan,” as well as four additional acoustic surprise songs from the tour: “I Can See You,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love” and “Death by a Thousand Cuts.”

Swifties online are freaking out over purported ‘leaks’

The internet was at it again this week, with some online circulating what they said were leaks of Swift's new album. It is unclear from where and when the apparent leaks originated, but one Reddit thread is already filled with commentary.

As early as Tuesday, "taylor swift leak" appeared to be blocked from searches on X. Instead, when a user tried to search the phrase, a blank page popped up with the message, "Something went wrong. Try reloading."

The secret message has been decoded

The sixth and final word of the secret message, “mortem,” was revealed today, hidden in the lyrics of the song “Begin Again.”

The complete secret message is: “We hereby conduct this post mortem.”

In a collaboration with Apple Music, Swift sorted some of her existing songs into thematic playlists , along with audio messages from her.

The messages seemed to confirm some fans’ theories that the playlists mirrored the five stages of grief — denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance — indicating that the new album may grapple with grief or loss. Swift later used a song from each playlist to reveal a hidden word on Apple Music every day leading up to the release of “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Swift sets fans loose on an international puzzle

Swifties had a big day yesterday after murals with QR codes were unveiled in cities around the world, including Mexico City, Paris and Chicago.

Fans stumbled upon the murals, which Swift had not announced, and scanned them to find a link to a YouTube Shorts video. Every mural had a unique code that led to a different video, each revealing a new letter as part of a word puzzle.

Fans came together online to help decode the puzzle, which seemed to hint at the new album's first track, because it spelled out "for a fortnight."

Swifties in Los Angeles flock to Spotify pop-up library

Many Los Angeles Swifties celebrated the new album with a pop-up library installation in partnership with Spotify.

The three-day event, which runs through today at The Grove, featured a sneak peek at some of the album's lyrics.

Fans posted videos of themselves lined up for hours to get a glimpse at the installation.

A manuscript was front and center at the installation, revealing new lyrics periodically as the pages were turned over the course of three days.

Many fans online tried to identify other potential Easter eggs in the pop-up library, such as a bust of a peace sign, quill and fountain pens and a globe that appeared to be pointing to Florida, the name of a track on the album.

Why is the album called 'The Tortured Poets Department'?

Fans were quick to note that “The Tortured Poets Department” is the longest title for a Taylor Swift album by a large margin, a distinction previously held by her third album, "Speak Now." Before "TTPD," "Speak Now" was her only album title consisting of more than one word.

Speculation surrounding the new album and its uncharacteristic title has primarily revolved around Swift’s  2023 breakup  with British actor Joe Alwyn after their six-year relationship.

After the album announcement, a  2022 Variety interview  between Alwyn and Paul Mescal resurfaced on X. The pair revealed in the interview that they were both members of a WhatsApp group chat titled the Tortured Man Club, prompting some fans to  draw parallels  between Alwyn and Swift’s upcoming album.

The true meaning of “The Tortured Poets Department” remains to be seen, but the album's rollout has featured references to famous poems like Charles Baudelaire’s “The Albatross,” among other literary references.

Clues keep coming

Speculation continues to grow over clues for lyrics, song titles and the album’s first music video.

Not much from Miss Swift so far

It's been a notably quiet rollout for "The Tortured Poets Department."

No themed Instagram grid overhaul, no lead singles, not even a cryptic calendar leading Swifties on wild goose chases for potential Easter eggs.

A week before the release, Taylor Swift was rocking out at Coachella instead of feeding her fans who are desperate for a hint of what's to come.

Aside from a hand-painted QR code on the side of a building in Chicago, a planned exhibit at The Grove in Los Angeles in partnership with Spotify and a quick video released Tuesday that appears to leave the "Midnights" era in the dust as viewers tour The Tortured Poets Department, Swift has been silent on what we can expect.

In the video , posted to her Instagram account, we did get a glimpse of a schedule that only showed release day, and on it, the promise of a music video on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Fourteen tick marks beneath led some to think the music video could be for the 14th track on the album, or for the leading song, "Fortnight," since a fortnight is 14 days.

Swifties believing in the latter theory proved to be correct. Swift announced that the music video would be for "Fortnight" in a Thursday afternoon social media post.

Swifties online continue to grasp for any details to try to figure out what this mastermind might have in store for her beloved fan base.

What songs are on the new album?

Here's what songs are on the track list.

  • "Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department"
  • "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys"
  • "So Long, London"
  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "Fresh Out the Slammer"
  • "Florida!!! (Florence + the Machine)"
  • "Guilty as Sin?"
  • "Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?"
  • "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)"
  • "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "The Alchemy"
  • "Clara Bow"

Swift has also announced four bonus tracks: "The Manuscript," “The Bolter,” “The Albatross” and “The Black Dog.” Each bonus track will be available on a separate vinyl variant and won't be on the streaming version of the album.

When does 'The Tortured Poets Department' drop?

Swift's 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," will be released Friday at 12 a.m. ET, or 9 p.m. PT.

It will be available for purchase on vinyl, on cassette, as a digital album and in CD form. It will also be on several streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music.

But if you plan to stream “The Tortured Poets Department” right after its release, be prepared for potential delays. When Swift’s most recent brand-new album, “Midnights,” was released, Spotify  briefly crashed  because of intense demand.

Taylor Swift's 'Tortured Poets' is hauntingly brilliant, even the 15 surprise songs

t swift eras tour surprise songs

Taylor Swift ’s vulnerability is her superpower.

From the glorified diary entries of her 2006 debut to her 2024 album of the year Grammy winner “Midnights," she has proudly worn her heart on her sleeve.

That heart is bloodied and battered, but ultimately beating on “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift’s 11th studio album that she surprise announced while collecting the first of two more Grammys in February.

Then came a bigger surprise when, at 2 a.m. Friday, Swift declared that "TTPD" was really a double album, with "The Anthology" tacked onto the the title and the addition of 15 songs to join the initial 16.

These 31 pensive pop tracks are the antithesis to “Lover.” Heartbreak and misery wrapped in melody. Rainbows faded into sepia tone. An era endured not enjoyed.

"TTPD" is bookended with a prologue – a poem by Stevie Nicks – and an epilogue framed as Swift’s summary report as the chairman of The Tortured Poets Department (Chaos, “leads the caged beast to do the most curious things,” she writes).

As she grapples with blame for the fizzling of a six-year relationship, she isn’t worried about pride. Former boyfriend Joe Alwyn is the obvious unnamed antagonist in most songs ("My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys"), though Swift shoulders plenty of culpability ("The Tortured Poets Department" title track).

With these songs, Swift pulls listeners into the depths of misery catalyzed by a public breakup while she staged the biggest concert tour in history. It's an exploration of extremes told with intimate details. Is this her “Tapestry" ? Her “Blue" ? Her “Like A Prayer" ?

Maybe the old guard still isn’t ready to anoint Swift to the echelon of Carole King and Joni Mitchell (Madonna? Absolutely). But “TTPD” springboards off Swift’s vibrant storytelling on “Folklore” and “Evermore” and spotlights the open-hearted confidence she presented on those musically minimalist albums.

Swifties can exhaust themselves excavating lyrical clues in the F-bomb-dropping “Down Bad” (“If I can’t have him, I might die”) and surmise if “But Daddy I Love Him” is funny or cruel (“I’m having his baby. No I’m not, but you should see your faces”), but it hardly matters.

Like the most successful artists in history – The Beatles and Beyoncé, perhaps – Swift is untouchable. Critic proof. Adored whether she unveils a masterpiece or a stopgap collection of songs.

“TTPD” falls closer to masterpiece territory, if not musically – similar cadences and production from Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner coat many songs with the same sheen – then lyrically.

It’s a bonafide headphones album, best experienced in the quiet to fully absorb the sadness and exasperation in Swift’s voice when she sings in the resentful “So Long, London,” (“I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free”) and her ache on the melancholy piano ballad “Loml,” which will make your heart feel raked over with nails.

What guests does Taylor Swift have on her new album?

Post Malone is dancing closely to the fire known as "Call John Legend For a Feature" with his high-profile drops not only on Swift’s album, but Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter.”

While he offered a pedestrian contribution with Beyoncé, Posty fares better on “Fortnight,” the opening song on “TTPD” which he co-wrote with Swift and Antonoff.

A gentle thrumming in the background cushions Swift's darkly funny lyrics (“I was a functioning alcoholic ‘til nobody noticed my new aesthetic”) while Post Malone dips into the mesmerizing rhythm with some sweet vocals.

It’s also one of two songs to namedrop Florida. But the second, “ Florida!!! ,” co-written by and co-starring Florence Welch, is the standout, with Swift and Welch trading vocals over a stomping backbeat that is both cinematic and purposeful.

More: Taylor Swift name-drops Patti Smith and Dylan Thomas on new song. Here’s why

While it’s impossible to out-lyricize Swift, Welch nudges impressively close with her self-penned contribution: “Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine, well, me and my ghosts had a hell of a time.”

These two are ideal companions, musically and philosophically.

‘I Can Do it With a Broken Heart’ is one of Swift’s best Trojan horses

Synths flutter, an electro-pop beat pulses and the melody is structured as one of Swift’s trademark glistening pop gems.

But then the lyrics of “I Can Do it With a Broken Heart” kick in and Swift travels through the most potent psychological exploration of “the show must go on” since Smokey Robinson and The Miracles described “The Tears of a Clown” in 1967.

“I’m a real tough kid,” Swift sings, defiant as ever. “They said baby, gotta fake it til you make it … and I did.”

With humor and grace, Swift unfurls the anguish she hid while remaining very visible the past year, including blasting through an awe-inspiring three-hour show several nights a week on her world-spanning Eras Tour. But the song achieves liftoff with the dichotomy of Swift’s honeyed voice and her chant-singing, “I’m so depressed, I act like it’s my birthday, every day.”

It’s a clever entry into the complexity of mental health, and Swift, she of limitless ambition, flips her sorrow into something constructive, a Superwoman unbowed by pesky things like misery.

“I cry a lot but I am so productive,” she chirps, tongue firmly in cheek. “It’s an art … you know you’re good when you can do it with a broken heart.”

The capper is Swift declaring, “I’m miserable and no one even knows it!” as she laughs through the end of the song. But after recognizing what she’s endured, even her giggles lacerate.

Who is Clara Bow?

One of the most intriguing songs on “TTPD” is named for a 1920s-era silent film star and the layers run deep (paging all excavating Swifties!)

Is the choice of an actress who was seen and not heard on film a metaphor for her life with Alwyn, a cornerstone of which was privacy?

Or, as Swift sings from an observational post, does she merely resemble the alluring dark-lipsticked 20 th century star?

The wispy ballad finds Swift mimicking the words she (possibly) heard in her upstart years, such as “You look like Stevie Nicks ,” before the storyline comes full circle with a new rookie being told, “You look like Taylor Swift … you’ve got edge, she never did.”

It’s meta, yes, but Swift often subscribes to glancing back to lunge forward – always saturated in poetic sensitivity.

What is ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology’?

The 15 additional songs Swift dropped a mere two hours after providing an emotional wallop with the first batch include four of the tracks already announced as bonuses: “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross” and “The Black Dog.”

Among the others, Swift is especially pointed on the gently swelling acoustic guitar-based “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus,” a song that seemingly references her fling with Matty Healy (she laments being unable to save someone who “needed drugs” and was always just out of reach).

Her strongest vitriol, however, is reserved for “Thank you, Aimee,” which fans surmise digs into her feud with Kim Kardashian . But Swift is bold and forthright when schooling “Aimee” about her success in spite of criticisms – a familiar, if still welcome, page from Swift’s playbook.

A trio of “name” songs – “Cassandra,” “Peter” and “Robin” – are all winsome ballads couched in pretty piano melodies. “Peter” is especially endearing with its waltzing rhythm and Swift’s warm vocals on this ode to a childhood friend (“The goddess of timing once found us beguiling,” she sings).

But a highlight is the bouncy “So High School,” which finds Swift singing and strumming guitar with the breezy glow of ‘ 90s-era Sheryl Crow. Is her focal point current paramour Travis Kelce ? Lyrics including “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle” and “I feel so high school every time I look at you,” are significant indications. But more importantly, the song pulls Swift out of the sludge and into the sun.
