Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Verified Fan Onsale is using registration to ensure more tickets get into the hands of fans who want to go to the shows, not buyers looking to resell them.

Only fans that receive an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for this Verified Fan Onsale. Fans who are selected will receive additional instructions on Wednesday, November 8. All others will be put on a waitlist.

Tickets for these shows will be in high demand, therefore, a limited number of fans will get access to the Verified Fan Onsale while others will be placed on the waitlist as described below. Access to the Verified Fan Onsale does not guarantee tickets. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

Registration is open from Thursday, November 2 at 8:00 a.m. PT through Saturday, November 4 at 5:00 p.m. PT .

Key Dates to Know

Thursday, November 2 – Registration opens Saturday, November 4 @ 5:00 p.m. PT – Registration closes Wednesday, November 8 – Fans will receive confirmation if they will have access to the Verified Fan Onsale or if they have been placed on the waitlist.

Thursday, November 9 – Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Verified Fan Onsale (only fans that received an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for this sale). All shows will be assigned specific on-sale windows, which will be communicated prior to the start of the sale.

How Will This Sale Work?

Ticketmaster is helping artists give their fans a better opportunity to purchase tickets by creating an extra line of defense against bots and professional resellers who are looking to sell tickets for profit. The process includes three steps:

Step 1: Registration

By registering for the Verified Fan Onsale, you are letting us know that you’re interested in purchasing tickets. From the registration page, you sign into or create your account, select your preferred show(s) and register your email and phone number. Once completed, you’ll automatically receive a confirmation email letting you know that we got your request. It’s quick, easy and free to sign up.

Step 2: Verification

Next, Ticketmaster vets each request by confirming it belongs to an individual — not a bot — and that it hasn’t been tied to irregular behaviors that could be a sign of a professional seller attempting to access the sale.

Step 3: Access Code or Waitlist

When demand exceeds availability, a limited number of registered Verified Fans will get access to the sale and others will be placed on a waitlist. You’ll receive an email on Wednesday, November 8 letting you know which group you’re in. If selected to get access to the sale, you’ll receive a unique access code and purchase link via text message the day prior to your Verified Fan Onsale.

While no system can guarantee that all fans will get tickets to the show(s) they’re interested in, the Verified Fan program works to significantly block bots and professional resellers from competing against fans for tickets during the sale.

Common Questions

How do i register.

  • To register, please visit: HERE
  • Sign in using your My Account or create an account if you don’t have one.
  • Tell us what show you’re interested in and submit your registration; we’ll keep you up to date with all the latest information.

We’ll send you a confirmation email to let you know your registration was successful and what you can expect next.

If I receive access to the Verified Fan sale, am I guaranteed tickets?

No. Access means you have an opportunity to join the Verified Fan sale but it is not a guarantee you’ll be able to purchase tickets. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

If I received access to the Verified Fan sale, how do I purchase tickets?

  • At the specified time, click the link you were sent.
  • You’ll enter the Smart Queue. To keep your place in line, stay on the page and don’t refresh. Do not open more than one browser window.
  • Once it’s your turn, shop for tickets by using your unique access code. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis while currently-available inventory lasts and aren’t guaranteed. Each event has a strict four (4) ticket limit per customer.
  • Then checkout!

How many tickets can I buy with my code?

You can purchase up to 4 tickets for the one show indicated in the text you received.

When will the Waiting Room open?

The Waiting Room will open 30 minutes before the designated Verified Fan sale window begins. When the Verified Fan sale begins, fans in the Waiting Room are assigned a spot in line. Once you reach the end of the queue, you’ll have an opportunity to shop for tickets. Stay on the page and don’t refresh or you may lose your spot in line.

You must use the same Ticketmaster account that you registered with to join the Waiting Room.

How do I join the queue?

Sign in through the link that we texted to the phone number you provided during registration to access the queue.

What can I do to prepare?

If you’ve been selected to participate in the Verified Fan sale, we recommend that you prepare by signing into your Ticketmaster account before the Verified Fan sale to make sure your billing information is up to date. This will help speed up the checkout process after you’ve selected the tickets you want to buy.

My link isn’t working. What should I do?

If you registered and received access to shop for tickets through text or email from Ticketmaster, but the link’s not working, try checking these things first:

  • Make sure the event is on sale. Links are sent out before the event goes on sale but won’t work until the event is actually on sale.
  • You must be signed in with the same email address you used to register for the Verified Fan sale.

Will there be other ways to buy Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour tickets?

The only official way to get Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour tickets is through the Ticketmaster Verified Fan Onsale or through certain other limited tour-sponsored onsale opportunities for specific shows. Be on the lookout for information on these other opportunities where available.

I got an email saying I’m on the waitlist. What does that mean?

If you’re currently on the waitlist, stay tuned — you may still have an opportunity to shop for tickets.

When there are more fans than there are tickets, a limited number of fans will get access to join at the start of the Verified Fan sale and others will be placed on the waitlist.

More fans may get access to join the Verified Fan sale based on ticket availability. If you’re selected, you will receive a text with a link to join the Verified Fan sale. Please note, moving off the waitlist does not guarantee access to tickets. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

Can I register more than once to increase the likelihood that I am able to purchase tickets ?

Registering more than once for a specific event does not increase the likelihood that you are able to purchase tickets . If you want to change the event date you selected after you’ve registered, you can make those edits while the registration window is still open. We only keep the last registration you submitted.

I received a confirmation email after I registered, what does that mean?

The email is simply to inform you that we have received your registration and will be working to verify your account. It doesn’t guarantee that you will be selected for the Verified Fan sale access. A second email will be sent on Wednesday, November 8 letting you know if you will get access to the sale or if you’ve been placed on the waitlist. If selected, the day prior to your Verified Fan sale you’ll receive a text message with a unique access code and link to use.

I’m a real fan of this artist, and not a bot or reseller. Why didn’t I get access?

Selection is not a measure of how big a fan anybody is. Sometimes there simply aren’t enough tickets for everyone. When demand exceeds availability, a limited number of fans get access to the Verified Fan sale, and others must be placed on the waitlist. The number of fans who receive access depends on the number of tickets currently available — this is done to help create a less crowded ticket shopping experience for fans.

How will I know if I’ve been granted access to the Verified Fan sale after I’ve been placed on the waitlist?

If selected, you will receive a text with a unique access code and link to the ticket sale. In the event of any SMS/texting delivery issues, we’ll email your unique access code and link to the email address associated with your Ticketmaster account that you used to register. Access to the Verified Fan Onsale does not guarantee tickets. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis while currently-available inventory lasts. If you’re sent a unique access code and link you should join the Verified Fan sale as soon as possible for your opportunity to purchase tickets.

Here's how to get presale tickets on Ticketmaster and Capital One for the US leg of Taylor's The Eras Tour.

Listen to this article

It's officially happening – Taylor Swift has finally embarked on her long-awaited worldwide tour and fans are already sweating over the ticket buying process.

On November 1st 2022, Taylor announced that she will be setting off on her brand new ' The Eras Tour ', which will be "a journey through the musical eras of [her] career (past & present!)"

As of August 2023, Taylor has almost completed the U.S. leg of the tour. She's soon set to perform in South America, before dropping into Japan, Australia, Singapore, the UK, Ireland and various countries across Europe. She's also just announced more North American dates at the end of 2024.

Thankfully, Taylor will once again be performing in stadiums across the world, which means there'll be plenty of tickets available for each of the shows... but how can fans get their hands on presale codes and access to the exclusive ticket presales?

Here's everything you need to know about how to get presale ticket access to the 2024 North American dates for Taylor's The Eras Tour.

How to get and where to find US and Canada pre-sale codes for Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour

There is currently one way in which fans in the U.S. and Canada can gain access to the official pre-sales for tickets to Taylor's upcoming The Eras Tour, and that is through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan feature.

Here's how to secure your access to the ticket pre-sale using each of those methods.

How to access the Ticketmaster Verified Fan pre-sale for The Eras Tour.

One way fans will be able to get a chance to buy tickets to the Eras Tour is through Ticketmaster Verified Fan pre-sale.

You'll need to register using your Ticketmaster account log in, and you will then receive an email confirmation with details on what to expect next .

  • For the U.S. shows, scroll down and click 'register now' here .
  • For the Canada shows, scroll down and click 'register now' here .

If you have been successful, you will be sent a unique pre-sale code before the tickets go on sale. This code will be exclusive to your Ticketmaster email address only. You will not be able to share them.

When the sale starts, you will need to click the link sent to you by Ticketmaster and enter your unique code once you make it through the Smart Queue. You will then get a chance to purchase your tickets.

If you have not been successful, you will be put on the waitlist. You may then be contacted after the Verified Fan sale has started with an invite to purchase tickets.

Taylor has used this feature in the past during the Reputation Stadium Tour. It helps genuine fans secure tickets to see their favourite artists before touts and bots even get a chance to glance in that direction.

It should be noted that Ticketmaster's Verified Fan feature does not guarantee you a ticket, but it does ensure that fans are the first ones served, not bots.

Are you ready for it? Taylor Swift announces 6 Toronto dates for Eras Tour

Taylor Swift fans in Canada can finally breathe easy.

The U.S. singer-songwriter announced six new shows in Toronto next year as part of her Eras Tour.

Swift will perform at the Rogers Centre from Nov. 14 to 16, 2024 and then Nov. 21 to 23, 2024.

“Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era,” Swift wrote on her Twitter account Thursday.

“Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with @gracieabrams.”

Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era 😝 Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with @gracieabrams ! Tickets are not on sale right now, but fans can register online on Ticketmaster’s website to help get seats for all six shows.

Due to the heavy traffic, there was a line to even register as a verified fan Thursday.

The announcement comes after Swift left Canada out of 14 new tour dates released last month, disappointing Canadians, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau .

Trudeau replied to her July announcement with a message on Twitter referencing a few of Swift’s songs, including Cruel Summer.

“It’s me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don’t make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon.”

Swift’s perceived snub even reached the House of Commons, with a Conservative MP saying he would file an “official grievance within Parliament on behalf of all Swifties” in the country.

Swift last performed in Canada in 2018.

The Eras Tour , which began in the United States in March, will see Swift perform across the globe.

The U.S. leg has already seen sell-out shows with fans triggering a 2.3-magnitude earthquake in Seattle last month.

It cannot be said for certain whether the seismic activity was caused by soundwaves generated from bass, subwoofers, jumping fans or a combination of factors.

Swift’s decision to only perform in Toronto makes her the first artist to do six nights at the Rogers Centre stadium as part of a single tour.

Canada’s huge landmass and its relatively smaller population makes it a “really tough country to tour,” Eric Alper, a music industry expert in Toronto, previously told Global News.

Compared to the U.S. and the U.K., Canada also does not have many large venues that can hold over 50,000 people, Alper said.

The Rogers Centre, home of Toronto’s Blue Jays, is undergoing a massive $300 million renovation. The first phase of the changes, unveiled in April, have reduced the stadium’s seating capacity by seven percent to 41,500, according to media reports. However, that number does not take into account floor seats or standing room capacity.

Mega tours do have economic impacts on the cities they visit, Concordia University economist Moshe Lander told Global News in June.

“With a Taylor Swift concert, the economic benefit would be in the tourist dollars that it brings in,” he said.

Swift, a multiple Grammy winner, is also slated to take the stage in Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia over the next year.

Canadians have shown they are willing to travel to see Swift and other attractions. The border crossings in British Columbia were extremely busy last month ahead of her concerts in Seattle, which also coincided with a Blue Jays-Mariners series.

The Eras Tour is now set to end in Toronto on Nov. 23, 2024 – unless more shows are added.

How to secure Taylor Swift tickets, from a Canadian fan who couldn’t bet on Canadian dates

This article was published more than 6 months ago. Some information may no longer be current.

Taylor Swift performs during "The Eras Tour," on May 5, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn. George Walker IV/The Canadian Press

Taylor Swift fans call it The Great War.

The name comes from a Swift song that some fans believe was inspired by the dystopian novel The Hunger Games , where the world’s overlords force teens to battle for survival.

Getting Taylor Swift concert tickets is a near impossible task. Some of us waited in front of screens from dawn to dusk, only to have the ticket deities – grinning like devils – give us the boot from the online queue. Some of us panicked and forked over a mortgage down payment for VIP packages. Some of us grabbed whatever tickets the website threw our way, no matter where the seats were in the stadium.

Some of us didn’t get anything at all.

I fall into the camp of folks who grabbed whatever they could. But it’s also going to cost me airfare to Italy. Let me explain.

I made the call long before she announced her one and only Canadian tour location.

RBC to offer Taylor Swift presale tickets for her six Canadian concerts, opening loyalty program to non-customers

In November, those who had registered for the U.S. tour presale swarmed Ticketmaster’s website to buy tickets. The site crashed under the weight of the demand, forcing them to wait for hours. Ultimately, two million tickets were sold, but 1.5 million preregistered fans were unable to scoop up tickets at prices that ranged from US$49 to US$449.

Even though the preregistration system was set up to deter bots and scalpers, tickets were posted on resale sites for thousands of dollars in the days after.

The debacle drew the ire of U.S. government representatives, with politicians calling out the merger of Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation Entertainment as a monopoly that should not have been approved. A few days later, Swift posted a statement on Instagram, saying that it “really pisses me off” that fans had to suffer “several bear attacks” to get tickets. The backlash prompted Ticketmaster to issue an apology.

Rather than try to buy tickets to a nearby U.S. concert, I had decided to wait it out. Swift’s tours had always come to Canada, and I hoped that the ticket system issues would be addressed by then.

In June, Swift announced her world tour, but there were no Canadian dates in sight.

On social media, Canadians raged over the lack of tour dates. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted at Swift, imploring her to bring her tour here.

At the time, Swift did not comment on bypassing Canada, and fans and music industry experts alike theorized as to why. Then, on Thursday, weeks after many Canadian fans bought tickets to her shows overseas, Swift announced six concert dates in Canada in November, 2024 – all located in Toronto at the Rogers Centre – along with nine new shows across three U.S. states.

When tour promoters decide where to host a concert, they consider the cost of producing the show in that market compared to how much money they expect to make from ticket and merchandise sales, according to Catherine Moore, adjunct music and business professor at the University of Toronto.

“They can put a pretty accurate estimate very early on in their planning of what the revenue will be from that show, because they know the capacity and they know the ticket prices,” Moore said. “Then they’ll decide that maybe they’re going to lose money in this market, but it could make sense.”

In the case of the Eras Tour, Swift’s team could have been considering a number of financial factors that explain the delay and relatively low number of tour locations in Canada. For one, Canada’s largest venues hold fewer than 50,000 spectators. In her U.S. and international tour, Swift is selling out stadiums that hold between 80,000 and 100,000 people, allowing her to bring in more money per show. With the capacity of the Rogers Centre, her six Canadian shows are the equivalent of three in the U.S.

Canada’s vast geography also poses a challenge for stage logistics, Moore said. The Eras Tour requires an estimated 90 trucks to transport the show equipment, and the wide distances between Canada’s major cities could be a costly hurdle to navigate.

Tickets for concerts in Canada already tend to be pricier than in other parts of the world. Earlier this year, tickets went on sale for Coldplay’s show in Vancouver – the band’s only Canadian stop. Fans criticized the prices, which were significantly higher than Coldplay’s show in nearby Seattle, Washington.

Concert dates also depend on the physical and mental ability of artists to sustain long, arduous tours, as well as the scheduling availability of the local arenas. Beyoncé included Canada in her tour, but held only two concerts in Toronto and one in Vancouver.

After watching the chaos with U.S. ticket sales, I decided in June that my best chance to see Taylor was to go global: There were nine shows in Britain, one in Poland, five in Australia, and … one in Italy? That could work. I haven’t visited my family and friends there in six years, so what better excuse than The Eras Tour?

I called up one of my best friends who lives in Turin in northern Italy. Within minutes it was settled – we would see Taylor Swift in Milan in July, 2024.

This is where things get complicated. Canadian Swifties, I offer you my notes on grabbing those tickets.

To weed out bots and scalpers, ticketing platforms gave fans a few days to preregister for the opportunity to be chosen for a code to access the presale.

I registered for three locations in Europe.

If you think that’s wild, consider that other fans registered for each international location using different e-mail addresses. Some have posted videos of Excel spreadsheets tracking the registration and presale process.

Two weeks later, I was wait-listed for Dublin, and the Britain-based concerts. Then, I received the e-mail about Milan: “Sei stato selezionato per partecipare alla vendita dei biglietti per i concerti del Taylor Swift . ” Roughly translated: you have been selected as tribute, may the odds be ever in your favour.

I had received an access code for the ticket presale – the rough equivalent to winning the lottery to spend your own money. There was a chance I could get a ticket, but it’s not guaranteed.

Two of my friends in Italy were also selected, while my partner was wait-listed. With three presale codes in hand, we started doing our homework to beat the system.

I spent a week watching online videos of Swifties sharing their experiences in online presales – some said to log into the ticket platform from multiple browsers and devices while others warned that tactic would get you flagged as a bot. The best advice that I saw was to not waste time deliberating over seats; just take anything.

On the day of Milan’s ticket sales at noon Central European Time in mid-July, my alarm went off at 5:29 a.m.

I entered the online waiting room 30 minutes before the sale. On a conference call with my friends in Italy, we shouted at each other in panic once we got into the online store and clicked on ticket options, only to be told the seats were no longer available. As the minutes ticked by, more seats sold out. We were losing the battle.

In a stroke of genius, one of my friends clicked on the “limited view” category, meaning there would be an object slightly blocking our view of the stage. We waited as the page loaded and prayed that the tickets would still be available. “Ci sono i biglietti!” he said. There are tickets! Four precious tickets with an obstructed view, but we would be inside the stadium. What a deal.

With three minutes left on the timer that warned he would soon be booted out of the line and lose our tickets, he hammered his keyboard to enter our credit card information.

“Andata. Abbiamo i biglietti.” It was done. We had the tickets

Ten minutes later, the concert was sold out.

I wasn’t the only Canadian committed to the cause. A Toronto friend got tickets in Sweden; an ex-colleague is going to Liverpool. Scrolling through Tiktok and X, dozens of Canadian and U.S. fans proclaimed their success in dropping thousands of dollars to fly overseas.

Ultimately, I’m not confident that I would have gotten tickets to the Toronto shows. Swifties from across Canada – and those that missed out in the U.S. – will be vying for those tickets.

Next fall, you’ll find me listening to the concert from the parking lot of the Rogers Centre and passing out T-Swift friendship bracelets, like thousands of U.S. fans who lost the race for concert tickets last year.

But for now, I’m just hoping my vacation request for Italy will be approved.

About Gracie Abrams Since making her debut with “Mean It” in 2019, Gracie Abrams has emerged as one of the most compelling songwriters of her generation. A consummate songwriter who names Joni Mitchell as her most formative influence, she penned her first song at age 8, then went on to amass a devoted following on the strength of her emotionally intimate lyrics. Her debut project  minor  was released in summer 2020. The 7-song effort features her beloved singles “21,” “I miss you, I’m sorry,” and “Long Sleeves.” In 2021, Abrams returned with  This Is What It Feels Like , a 12-track project exploring such complex emotions as self-betrayal, insecurity, and failed attempts at connection. Soon after completing her sold-out North American headline tour for  This Is What It Feels Like , she set to work on her long-awaited debut album. Released in February, and produced by  Aaron Dessner  of  The National ,  Good Riddance  finds  Abrams  opening up about a recent period of intense transformation, bringing even more honesty and depth to her lyrical storytelling.  Praising  Good Riddance  as “one of 2023’s best debuts,”  Rolling Stone  hailed  Abrams  as “one of pop’s buzziest young artists.” Upon its release Abrams set out on a sold-out North American headline tour and is currently supporting on select dates of the blockbuster Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour.  Abrams just released a deluxe version of  Good Riddance  featuring four additional songs.

Taylor Swift is coming to Canada. Whether you can actually get tickets is another matter

Ticket frenzy (taylor's version) expected as pop star has 6 shows in toronto next year.

taylor swift tour canada presale

Social Sharing

Until now, Canadian fans have had to watch Taylor Switch's ever-expanding Eras tour through clips of sold-out shows elsewhere. A fortunate few even left the country just to attend a concert.

But the pop megastar is coming to Canada after all, with six dates over a 10-day period at the Rogers Centre in Toronto in November 2024.

As news dropped on Thursday that Canada was being added to the international tour that began last March, fans wasted no time in trying to secure tickets.

"We already registered for tickets this morning to buy them next week," said one woman near the Rogers Centre, standing with a pre-teen girl who added, "I'm really excited to go. I love Taylor Swift."

  • Look what you made her do: Taylor Swift announces 6 Toronto dates for 2024

Tickets go on sale Wednesday. "Swifties" had a Saturday deadline to register for a limited number of tickets through Ticketmaster's  verified fan program  and were expected to receive an email on Tuesday either giving them an access code or telling them they're on a wait list.

The program helps filter out buyers looking to resell tickets, but Ticketmaster cautions that "registration does not guarantee tickets."

Taylor Swift fans rejoice at Toronto tour dates

"We expect there will be more demand than there are tickets available," Ticketmaster said.

Swift has already been selling out stadiums in the U.S. and Europe on her current tour. It's been a difficult ticket to get. Before the Toronto dates were announced, some Canadians bought tickets to see Swift overseas.

Blake Gill from Guelph, Ont., bought tickets to a show in France next spring, after getting tired of waiting to see if there would be stops in Canada. He also reasoned that it was a "perfect excuse to go to Europe."

In Vancouver, CBC News asked fans whether they would try to travel to Toronto for one of the shows.

"It's so hard to go there. It's so far," said one woman who still wants to try to attend because she's been a big fan since she was 10.

Vancouver Taylor Swift fans disappointed about Toronto-only tour dates

In Toronto, fans were asked whether Swift should take the tour to other cities in Canada.

"Yeah, absolutely, she should be going to other places in Canada. It's a very big country," one woman said.

Why only Toronto?

"It comes down to money," as to why the U.S. singer-songwriter is limiting her Canadian dates to the Rogers Centre, said University of Toronto business professor Daniel Tsai.

"The big issue here is you need scale. You need to have enough people in the seats to justify a trip.

"This is across the border as well, so she's got a huge entourage. She's got a lot of logistics and freight. They have to assemble equipment to do a custom show everywhere they go."

Economic impact 'tremendous'

Andrew Weir, executive vice-president of Destination Toronto, says the trickle-down effect these shows will have on other businesses in the city will be significant.

"It's more than just a concert ticket," he said.

  • Analysis Is Taylor Swift saving the economy?
  • Who's really to blame for Taylor Swift's Ticketmaster fiasco?

"They consume not only the event they're here for, the concert, but also hotels, restaurants, probably go do some other things while they're in town, do some shopping.

"So the economic impact is tremendous, and we know this is the kind of event that will draw visitors."

In June, online research company QuestionPro released the results of a study of fan spending, which estimated the Eras tour will generate $5 billion US in economic activity in the United States. It said the average concertgoer was spending $1,300 per show.

Taylor Swift in Concert   She is, quite simply, a global superstar.   Taylor Swift is a seven-time GRAMMY winner, and the youngest recipient in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album hit the 1 million first-week sales figure (2010’s Speak Now and 2012’s RED ). She’s a household name whose insanely catchy yet deeply personal self-penned songs transcend music genres, and a savvy businesswoman who has built a childhood dream into an empire.   But the numbers don’t tell Taylor's story half as well as she could. After all, it’s the intangibles that elevate Swift into the stratosphere of our pop culture planet, allowing the 24-year old singer-songwriter to orbit in a more rarified air. Her large-scale charitable contributions are one thing, but it’s in the small gestures – the notes of compassion she posts on the Instagram photos of lovelorn fans, the genuine hugs she distributes without discretion – where Swift proves time and time again that platinum-selling, record-setting success has not changed her inherent nature. She is awkwardly honest and powerfully empathetic; a brazen superfan, loyal friend, fierce protector of hearts; and one of the world’s greatest ambassadors for the power of just being yourself.   Granted, for Taylor, “being herself” tends towards shimmering, gossamer perfection – but that’s an image regularly blown whenever she dons fake braces and a tri-pony to clown around on late night TV. She’s the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 with three consecutive studio albums, and while she’s been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, she’s probably the only person on that list who uses social media to post notes to her best friends and videos of her cats.   As Billboard’s only artist to receive this nod twice and youngest-ever Woman of the Year prepares to release her fifth album, 1989, she finds herself, as always, in the glare of a blinding spotlight of expectation – but if you think that scares her, you haven’t been paying attention. She calls 1989 her most sonically cohesive collection, and armed with a multiple-week international No. 1 debut single, “Shake It Off,” she’s ready to blaze into the next phase of her still-young career, where she’ll continue to dance like no one’s watching, write like she stole our collective diary, and inevitably soar to ever-greater heights. All that’s left to wonder is how many more lives she’ll lift in the process.

Reviews 10000

My fav taylor & tru goddezz.

I enjoy and like the most. Not whom I consider to be the most influential, the best technically & spritually gifted musicians, the best songwriters, etc. Just the artists I like to listen to the most. Enjoy are Tru Goddezz and Taylor Swift

Too many light shows & weak singing performance

The show was oversaturated by lights. Taylor did more walking around and lip synching then actually having her microphone on. I didn't enjoy the ERA tour. Her previous was much better.

How to get presale access to Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' tickets

Madison Blancaflor

Editor's Note

Presale ticket access to Taylor Swift's new tour kicks off on Tuesday, Nov. 15. But if you check your emails and don't receive confirmation of your Verified Fan presale access code for 10 a.m., there's still hope of getting presale tickets if you have the right credit card.

Taylor Swift announced her 2023 tour earlier this month after her newest album "Midnights" broke multiple records on Spotify and Billboard. "The Eras Tour" is a big moment for Taylor Swift fans — it's her first tour since before the pandemic and the setlist will cover six albums total. She also has some fantastic supporting artists going on tour with her, including Paramore, HAIM and Phoebe Bridgers. A few fan-favorite songs have even been confirmed as part of the setlist, such as "All Too Well (10-Minute Version)."

Tickets to "The Eras Tour" won't go on sale to the general public until Nov. 18, and many Swifties are worried about the probability of snagging a ticket outside of the Verified Fan presale through Ticketmaster. This is in part because ticket prices have been preannounced and prices are relatively affordable — tickets will start at just $49.

Luckily, you don't need to be a mastermind to score tickets. Those who bought tickets for her "Lover Fest" tour (which had to be canceled during the pandemic) and those with Verified Fan presale access will receive earlier access to presale tickets starting at 10 a.m. local venue time on Tuesday. In addition, having the right credit card will still get you presale access starting at 2 p.m. local venue time on Nov. 16 thanks to Capital One Presale .

Want a reputation for great redemptions? Use the right card on every purchase when you download the free TPG App !

What is the Capital One cardholder Taylor Swift presale?

Great news for all Capital One cardholders: If you have an eligible Capital One credit or debit card, you'll have access to presale tickets starting Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. local venue time. A range of ticket options will be available during this presale (including premium options), and there is no selection process or special invite needed aside from your card.

All Capital One Visa or Mastercard credit or debit cardholders are eligible for this presale, but private label cards are not eligible.

Here are the steps for getting presale access with your Capital One card:

  • On Nov. 16 just before 2 p.m. local venue time (or anytime throughout the presale window), head to this page and select the concert date and venue you want. That will send you to the Ticketmaster page, where tickets will go live promptly at 2 p.m. local venue time.
  • When asked for the presale code, use the first six digits of your Capital One card.
  • Depending on demand when you log in, you'll be put into a queue to wait for your turn to buy tickets. Do not refresh your page once you get to the queue page.
  • You can select up to six tickets via this presale while supplies last (which means you'll want to grab tickets as early as possible in case they sell out).
  • Once you have your tickets, you must check out using your Capital One card.

What if you don't have a Capital One credit card already? The terms and conditions on the landing page for "The Eras Tour" Capital One presale says, "The Capital One Cardholder Presale is for existing Capital One cardholders. New applicants that have recently applied and have yet to receive card information are not eligible if a new card is received post the Cardholder Pre-sale window or after presale tickets have sold out."

Long story short, this, unfortunately, means that anyone who doesn't already have their Capital One card by now will be excluded from this presale.

However, if you're a regular concertgoer, it might be worth it to look into which cards could get you presale access to future events. For example, eligible American Express cardholders got presale access to Harry Styles "Love on Tour" earlier this year. You can check out our post on how your cards can help you unlock VIP events or learn which cards are best for entertainment purchases (such as concert tickets).

Tips for the Capital One Taylor Swift presale

If you've ever attempted to get highly-sought after concert tickets from Ticketmaster, you know it can feel a bit like the great war navigating the waiting room, queue and then ticket sale process. Having a Capital One credit card for access is only half the battle.

Here are some tips for snagging your tickets without a glitch:

Add your card to your Ticketmaster account in advance

Many people know all too well that almost nothing is worse than logging into a presale event, snagging a place early in the queue, selecting amazing tickets ... and then hitting an error message when trying to load your credit card information.

The best way to avoid this (while also saving time) is to log in early and add the Capital One card you plan to use to access the presale and pay for your tickets as the default payment method on your account. This way, you won't need to input your card details in the moment and Ticketmaster will have your details on file for a faster purchasing experience.

Sign in to Ticketmaster early

The Capital One presale starts at 2 p.m. local venue time (meaning if you live in L.A. and you want to snag concert tickets for Philidelphia, that presale will start at 11 a.m. PT), but you'll want to log into Ticketmaster and navigate to the ticket page at least 30 minutes in advance.

For the Verified Fan presale, participants are usually invited to a "waiting room" up to 30 minutes in advance of tickets going live, which then secures their place in line for the queue. While credit card presale access doesn't always follow that same process, being logged in early and keeping the page up and running while you wait will ensure you do get a spot in the waiting room if there is one.

And even if there isn't a waiting room with this presale, it'll make sure everything is good to go with your account and that you're ready to refresh into the queue as soon as the clock strikes 2 p.m. local venue time.

Check your Wi-Fi

A strong Wi-Fi connection is everything when trying to snag tickets during a competitive presale. The faster your device loads, the better your chances and securing and early slot in the queue and getting the best tickets possible. If you have a friend with stronger Wi-Fi than you, now is the time to ask to crash their couch during the presale event.

If you're on your phone, you might be tempted to forgo Wi-Fi altogether, but if you do have access to a strong Wi-Fi connection, it's better to use that over 4G or 5G service that may lag at an inopportune time.

Memorize your presale code and have your card nearby

Before you are able to buy tickets, Ticketmaster will ask for a "presale code." For this presale, that code is the first 6 digits of your Capital One credit card.

It's not a bad idea to memorize those digits ahead of time for easy entry, but you'll also want to have your card ready to go as you pull up tickets in case you forget the numbers or need to verify your CVV (that 3-digit number on the back of your card).

Consider going mobile

The Verified Fan presale emails recommended hopeful presale ticket buyers to use a deskop rather than the mobile app. However, there is anecdotal evidence that Ticketmaster prioritizes mobile app users over desktop users. While Ticketmaster hasn't confirmed this and there is no hard proof, it's worth considering using your phone instead of a desktop to snag tickets if there's a potential you'll get in faster.

On the other hand, if you have the Rakuten shopping portal plugin, Ticketmaster is often a vendor where you can get additional rewards when shopping through the portal. While I do have Rakuten, I'm personally choosing to prioritize speed over additional rewards — especially since I'll get 2 miles per dollar with my Venture X on my purchase.

Know when to refresh your page (and when not to)

This is a big one. Knowing when to hit refresh and when to have patience can be the difference between getting ticket access in minutes versus hours.

If you are asked to join a waiting room prior to presale access:

Once you are in a waiting room, that automatically puts you in line for the queue. On a desktop, you won't need to refresh your page right at 2 p.m. in order to be moved to the queue page. If you're on mobile, you will need to refresh your screen (don't exit out of the app, simply pull down on the screen for it to reload) for it to send you to the queue.

If there is not a waiting room ahead of tickets going live at 2 p.m. local venue time:

This is where it becomes a race to reload. If there is no waiting room, you're going to want to keep a very close eye on the clock (as in, find a clock with a seconds countdown) leading up to the 2 p.m. start time for the presale.

Starting around 10 seconds before the clock flips to 2 p.m. local venue time, start refreshing your page until you secure your spot in the queue.

Once you are in the queue:

Stay, stay, stay. If your screen has a walking figure on it indicating you are in line for the queue, do not refresh your page. I repeat: Once you're in the queue, do not refresh your page.

Below is an example of what the queue page will look like. Though it's from the Verified Fan presale queue, the Capital One presale queue will look very similar.

taylor swift tour canada presale

When you refresh while in the queue, Ticketmaster will boot you to the end of the line and you'll be forced to begin again.

Once you're in the queue, the only time you should ever reload your page is if prompted by a Ticketmaster error message on your screen that requests you reload your page and try again. Otherwise, trust the process and know that while it might take a while, you are in line and will be prompted to get tickets when it's your turn.

Beware of will call if using someone else's card

If you are using a parent, spouse or friend's card to score tickets, keep in mind that Ticketmaster may end up giving you will-call tickets. Will-call means you'll have to pick up the tickets in person at the box office of the venue the day of the concert — and the person whose name is on the card you used will have to be present with a photo ID and the card itself.

This could be an issue if you (and the person whose name is on the card) live in Arkansas but the concert you are attending is in Nashville, TN, for example.

Of course, you could end up breezing through and getting e-tickets that don't require an in-person pick-up (my little sister has used my card for Harry Styles presale tickets in the past and been just fine). But it's something to keep a lookout for when buying tickets.

Which Capital One card should you use for 'The Eras Tour' presale?

taylor swift tour canada presale

If you have multiple Capital One cards, you might be wondering which card is the best to use on concert ticket purchases.

Your highest cash-back potential comes with the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card . You'll get 4% cash back on entertainment purchases — including concert tickets. Alternatively, there's also the no-annual-fee Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card , which earns 3% cash back on entertainment.

The information for the Capital One Savor card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

However, if you're a frequent traveler who prioritizes travel rewards over cash back, you should use either the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card . They'll each earn 2 miles per dollar spent on your ticket purchase.

After you grab your tickets, also keep in mind that the Venture X also earns 10 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars, and 5 miles per dollar spent on flights booked through the Capital One Travel portal — a solid earning option if you're traveling to one of the concert venues.

Of course, you don't have to have one of these specific cards to get presale access — any Capital One credit or debit card (excluding private label cards) is eligible for access.

Bottom line

For a lot of fans — myself included — Taylor Swift music has been a mainstay throughout the majority of our lives. I first listened to her when "Tim McGraw" made its radio debut, and I've remained a fan throughout every album since. This tour is the culmination of years of new albums and re-releases, a tour bigger than the whole sky for many fellow Swifties. So, getting tickets is likely to be a competitive labyrinth.

If you weren't the lucky one selected for Verified Fan presale but are a Capital One cardholder, you'll still be able to get presale ticket access to "The Eras Tour."

Remember, presale tickets go live Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. local venue time for Capital One cardholders. Set your clocks and get ready to jump then fall so you can get your tickets for the best day.

Until then, you can find me listening to "Midnights" on repeat.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift will be spending a little extra time up north next year. Three months after announcing that her ongoing global Eras Tour will open for several shows in Toronto in 2024, the 33-year-old pop star has now added a trio of additional dates to her Canadian leg.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Taylor’s Version’ Songs: Every ‘From The Vault’ Track Ranked (So Far)

All of the new shows will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, at BC Place, with Swift set to perform three consecutive nights from Dec. 6 to 8. The Vancouver shows are slated to follow six Eras Tour offerings at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Trending on Billboard

Swift is currently on the last few days of a two-month break from touring , having finished out her first round of U.S. and Mexico shows in late August. Starting Nov. 9, she’ll pick right back up with a string of performances in Argentina and Brazil.

After that, she’ll spend pretty much all of 2024 on the road, with Eras shows planned for Asia, Europe and Australia before swinging back around to the States next October. Already, the trek has reportedly made Swift a billionaire , as projected by Bloomberg last week.

Registration for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan presale is already open for Swift’s new Vancouver dates. Find more information here .

When does 'The Tortured Poets Department' release? All about Taylor Swift's new album

taylor swift tour canada presale

Just one week after the once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse , people around the world are once again counting down the minutes to another highly-anticipated date: April 19 – the day Taylor Swift releases her 11th original studio album,  "The Tortured Poets Department."

The "Anti-Hero" singer threw her devoted fan base for a loop during the 2024 Grammys , when she announced her plans for the album while accepting the award for best pop vocal album for "Midnights." Leading up to the awards show, many speculated the superstar was teasing the release of the re-recorded version of her sixth album, "Reputation," given her official website was suffering a calculated glitch.

So what exactly does Swift's "Tortured Poets" era entail? And when does the album come out? Here's everything to know.

When does Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' album come out?

"The Tortured Poets Department" will release on vinyl, cassette, CD and digital album Friday, April 19 . It will also be available to stream on Apple Music and Spotify at midnight on Friday.

Pre-orders and  pre-saves are available now  on Swift's website .

Swift's website also has a timer counting down to 2 p.m. ET Thursday. It's unclear what is in the plans for that time.

What is 'The Tortured Poets Department' about?

In the weeks since the album announcement, Swift has captivated fans with small teasers alluding to its contents. During the Melbourne, Australia, stop of her Eras Tour , she revealed, "Tortured Poets is an album − I think more than any of my albums that I’ve ever made − I needed to make it. It was really a lifeline for me."

Some fans have theorized the album centers around Swift's ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. The pair dated for six years before breaking up last year.

In support of their theory, fans dug up a video the English actor did withVariety in December 2022, alongside Paul Mescal, during which they said they had a WhatsApp group chat called “the Tortured Man Club."

Others have highlighted the album release date, which is exactly one year after Swift’s friends and brother potentially unfollowed Alwyn on Instagram . Swift was  photographed  having dinner with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively that night – who both reportedly unfollowed Alwyn as well.

After Swift shared the track list for the album Feb. 5, fans immediately zeroed in on song No. 5, “So Long, London,” as likely being about Alwyn, who was raised in London, England.

Where to buy 'The Tortured Poets Department'

The physical album will be sold at Barnes & Noble, Walmart and a selection of local record stores . An exclusive, clear vinyl version of the album will be sold at Target.

'The Tortured Poets Department' track list

Just one day after the album announcement, Swift released the track list on Instagram.

The track list is as follows:

  • "Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)."
  • "The Tortured Poets Department."
  • "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys."
  • "Down Bad."
  • "So Long, London."
  • "But Daddy I Love Him."
  • "Fresh Out the Slammer."
  • "Florida!!! (Florence + the Machine)."
  • "Guilty as Sin?"
  • "Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?"
  • "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)."
  • "I Can Do it with a Broken Heart."
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived."
  • "The Alchemy."
  • "Clara Bow."
  • Bonus Track: "The Manuscript."

Swift has since announced three more bonus tracks: "The Bolter," "The Albatross" and "The Black Dog."

What does LOML mean?

One track listed on "The Tortured Poets Department" is "LOML," which has led to many people asking what that means.

Chapter 3: Lowering Everyday Costs

On this page:, 3.1 affordable groceries, 3.2 fairer prices, fewer fees, 3.3 lower banking fees, better finances.

The global rise in the cost of living has left people here in Canada struggling to keep up with the bills. While inflation has come down significantly, the government is taking action to lower everyday costs for Canadians and hold corporations to account.

Too many Canadians today are feeling like their hard work isn't paying off; that they can't get ahead. No matter how hard you save or how much more you work, your paycheques aren't going as far as costs go up, and saving enough to go after your dreams seems out of reach. It doesn't have to be this way.

Whether enabling young people to save more of their money for an education or first home, or helping families to make ends meet, the government is fighting to help Canadians keep more of their money.

To do this, the government is taking action to hold to account those who are charging Canadians unnecessarily high prices, whether it is grocers inflating their profit margins, corporations charging junk fees, or unnecessary banking fees. This budget will help ensure that corporations aren't taking advantage of Canadians and will make sure the economy is fair, affordable, and set up to make it easier to get a good deal.

Budget 2024 builds on these efforts and gives people back control over their personal finances and banking choices, with action to cap banking fees and give Canadians better access to digital banking, lower-cost accounts, and stronger consumer protection.

The government is taking action to lower the cost of groceries and make life more affordable.

The cost pressures Canadians are facing start with the price of food. No matter if your house is paid off or you've managed to hang on to an affordable apartment for years, everyone is paying more money for groceries. That's why Budget 2024 launches a National School Food Program, which will help ensure more than 400,000 children have the nutritious meals they need to learn and grow, as announced in Chapter 2.

Budget 2024 also advances work to cut costs for farmers through greater interoperability of their equipment, regardless of the name brand.

Key Ongoing Actions

  • Delivering the enhanced, quarterly Canada Workers Benefit payments four times a year to our lowest-paid—and often most essential—workers, with a family receiving up to $2,739 this year, plus an additional $821 for workers with disabilities.
  • Making life more affordable and cutting pollution with the Canada Carbon Rebate, which ensures eight out of ten families in provinces where the federal fuel charge applies get more back than they pay, with lower-income families benefitting the most. This year, the Canada Carbon Rebate will return up to $2,160 to a family of four, as detailed in Chapter 5.
  • Delivering the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Credit every three months to support lower- and modest-income Canadians with up to $496 this year for a single individual without children, and up to $992 for a family of four, and temporarily doubling the GST Credit for six months in fall 2022.
  • Delivering the Grocery Rebate, which provided up to $467 for a family of four, to 11 million Canadians and families in July 2023.
  • Tackling shrinkflation, to uphold the food sizes and qualities that Canadians expect. The Office of Consumer Affairs is leading this work and has launched research projects to investigate and reveal price inflation and harmful business practices that reduce the quantity and quality of groceries.
  • Giving more power to the Competition Bureau to crack down on unfair practices by large, dominant companies which drive up prices;
  • Removing the efficiencies defence, in order to end anti-competitive mergers that raise prices and limit choices for Canadians; and,
  • Empowering the Competition Bureau to block collaborations that stifle competition and consumer choice, including in situations where large grocers prevent smaller competitors from establishing operations nearby.

Stabilizing the Cost of Groceries

The cost of food has gone up in recent years. Too many Canadians are struggling with the price of groceries. In a country as wealthy as Canada, no one should go hungry. That's why the government has been taking action to stabilize the price of groceries, and delivering targeted support for those who need it most.

But a lack of competition in Canada's grocery sector means Canadians are paying higher prices. That is why the government has been reforming competition law, to create a grocery market where grocers compete to attract customers by offering the best prices.

Prices have been driven up by global factors like Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, grain blockades, and climate impacts on agriculture. Canadian grocery companies are also making record profits. The government is fighting to stabilize the price of groceries for Canadians.

Chart 3.1: Costs for Key Food Price Inputs

Since the pandemic, the profits of Canada's three largest grocers have collectively increased by 46 per cent—a substantial increase. Canadians deserve fair prices. By strengthening competition, the government is combatting the oligopolies, including among major grocery chains.

A recent Competition Bureau study of the grocery sector found that profit margins have increased since 2017, and concluded there is room for more competition in the Canadian grocery sector. The government has already strengthened competition to make it easier for more grocers to set up shop and compete to bring down prices for Canadians, and will keep working to do this.

To support competitive prices for groceries and other essentials, and give Canadians more choices, the government is:

  • Monitoring the grocers' work to help stabilize prices, as well as investigating other price inflation practices in the grocery sector, through the Grocery Task Force.
  • Maintaining the Food Price Data Hub to give Canadians detailed information on food prices that helps them make informed decisions about their grocery options.
  • Tackling shrinkflation and dequalification, including through the Office of Consumer Affairs, which has launched research projects to investigate and reveal price inflation and harmful business practices that reduce the quantity and quality of groceries.
  • Enhancing competition through the Affordable Housing and Groceries Act, which amended the Competition Act to enhance competition, including in the grocery sector, by giving more power to the Competition Bureau to crack down on unfair practices; removing the efficiencies defence; and empowering the Competition Bureau to block corporations from stifling competition.

The government will continue to fight for fair prices so every Canadian can afford to put good food on the table for themselves and their families.

Strengthening Local Food Security

Food insecurity is a persistent problem in Canada, with higher rates among Indigenous, racialized people, and persons with disabilities. Local food programs enable communities to grow, process, store, and distribute food to those in need within the community, improving the availability of and access to nutritious, local food and reducing the need to shop at major grocery chains.

People should be able to grow food in their communities. It helps them save money on groceries, and it helps them build stronger connections with their communities. For children, an understanding of where food comes from is best learned by growing it in their own neighbourhood. And studies have shown that access to healthy, locally-grown food increases health outcomes. Growing local is good economic policy, and it is good social policy.

  • As part of the government's work to end food insecurity, Budget 2024 proposes to provide $62.9 million over three years, starting in 2024-25, to renew and expand the Local Food Infrastructure Fund to support community organizations across Canada to invest in local food infrastructure, with priority to be given to Indigenous and Black communities, along with other equity-deserving groups. Part of the expansion will support community organizations to improve infrastructure for school food programs as a complement to the National School Food Program.

Lower Costs and Fairer Treatment for Farmers

Whether on the farm, on the jobsite, or in the backyard, Canadians deserve greater interoperability of the equipment they purchase—regardless of the brand. Farmers should be able to connect their John Deere Tractor or New Holland combine, to the specialized equipment they need from third parties, including short-line manufacturers, for various farming tasks. Farmers should be able to use the costly equipment they purchase however it is needed to run their farm.

When farmers have to purchase new, more expensive equipment to grow our food, it can drive up their costs, which get passed on at the checkout. Helping farmers keep costs low is a key component of ensuring the sustainability of our food supply chains. It also helps keep grocery prices in check.

To make it easier for farmers to use the tools and technology essential to running their farms, the government is supporting efforts to amend the Copyright Act to help achieve interoperability between devices and equipment.

To build on this important work to modernize legislation to reflect the realities of farming:

  • Budget 2024 announces the government will launch consultations this June on interoperability, so that farmers can use their equipment in the way that is best for their farm. This is part of broader work the government is undertaking to support the right to repair and interoperability.
  • Budget 2024 also announces the federal government is calling on provinces and territories to amend their contract laws to support interoperability, while commending the progress of Quebec on their work to support consumer protection, including for farmers.

Further details on the upcoming consultations will be announced shortly.

Interest Relief for Farmers

To ensure that Canadian farmers have access to the cash flow needed to continue producing food and supporting national food security, the government increased the $100,000 interest-free limit on loans temporarily under the Advance Payments Program to $250,000 in 2022 and to $350,000 in 2023. These changes have supported over 10,000 farmers with the increased costs for agricultural inputs, such as fertilizers and fuel, triggered by Russia's illegal war against Ukraine, global supply chain disruptions, and rising interest rates.

  • Budget 2024 proposes to provide $64 million in 2024-25 to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to support a $250,000 interest-free limit on Advance Payments Program loans for the 2024 program year. The government will continue to review the Advance Payments Program to improve program delivery and reduce the administrative burden for producers.

Protecting Farmers from the Costs of Climate Change

Farmers have faced immense destruction in recent years. The intensifying effects of climate change are particularly wreaking havoc on farmers' abilities to earn a stable income, and to contribute to our food security.

The Livestock Tax Deferral serves as crucial instrument for the government in mitigating the financial burden on farmers during natural disasters, such as drought or floods. This reliable, predictable support helps farmers build resilience as they face the increasingly severe effects of climate change.

The federal government is committed to working with industry partners, such as the Canadian Cattle Association, to explore avenues to ensure farmers get support quicker and more efficiently in times of need.

No one likes surprise fees. But it seems that every day, Canadians are paying extra fees over and above base prices, such as checked and carry-on baggage fees or international roaming charges. These extra fees are on top of what Canadians already paid for their airline ticket and monthly phone plan. Transparency on all fees up-front is essential so that businesses do not deceptively advertise lower prices than what Canadians will actually pay.

Junk fees are their own source of frustration. From high service fees or charges, to surprise event ticketing fees, to non-sufficient funds and transaction fees charged by banks, these costs add up. And, they disproportionately impact lower- and middle-income Canadians. The federal government is taking action to cut junk fees everywhere it can, and is launching a call to action to provinces and territories to reduce the junk fees under their jurisdiction.

The government has made significant progress to crack down on junk fees and help middle class Canadians keep more of their money in their pockets, and will keep going further. The new Team Canada effort will ensure Canadians in every province and territory can save money by getting fairer prices and paying fewer fees.

  • Modernizing the Competition Act to further strengthen the law against hidden fees from drip pricing, ensuring they are not legal anywhere in Canada, and to allow for private parties to bring certain deceptive marketing cases directly to the Competition Tribunal.
  • Investigating international mobile roaming charges through a Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission study, to ensure the cell phone fees Canadians pay are fair and affordable.
  • Lowering telecom prices by issuing a new directive for the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to improve competition, make it easier to cancel services, and strengthen the protections Canadians have from unfair business practices, such as paying unlocking fees for their cell phone—now, all phones come unlocked.
  • Leading a Canada-wide effort to crack down on junk fees, through the Office of Consumer Affairs, including through support towards consumer groups' independent research and advocacy against junk fees.

Cracking Down on Junk Fees

To lower the cost of everyday goods and services for Canadians, from monthly bills to the costs of air travel, the government launched an effort to crack down on junk fees. The federal government is using all legislative and regulatory levers at its disposal to reduce the unnecessary fees Canadians pay, including through reforming competition law, directing federal agencies to strengthen protections for Canadians, and introducing new caps to reduce bank fees. The federal government is making significant progress to deliver on its commitments to crack down on junk fees:

  • Amending the Competition Act to strengthen protections against hidden prices: Through Bill C-59, the government is further cracking down on drip pricing (when additional charges or fees affect consumers' abilities to make informed decisions about prices) by strengthening prohibitions against the digital marketing of unattainable prices without the inclusion of mandatory fees. The proposed amendments will also enable Canadians to bring deceptive marketing claims directly to the Competition Tribunal.
  • Directing the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to improve competition and support consumers : Last year, the government issued a new directive to put in place new rules and improve competition in the telecom sector to protect Canadians from unfair businesses practices and to lower prices. In the time since, the CRTC has already increased choice and affordability of high-speed internet services for more than five million Canadian families by requiring large telecom companies to provide competitors with access to their fibre optic networks.
  • Introducing the Financial Consumer Protection Framework Regulations to help Canadians avoid fees : Since June 2022, updated regulations have helped Canadians avoid non-sufficient funds fees by requiring banks to send Canadians electronic alerts when their chequing or savings account, or credit card or line of credit balance falls below $100, and allow Canadians to set a different amount; and requiring advance notice before renewal of products or services to ensure you only pay for the services you need.
  • Amending the Air Passenger Protection Regulations: To ensure that airlines seat all children under the age of 14 next to their accompanying adult at no extra cost, the government is developing regulatory amendments, which will be introduced this year. The government is also taking further action to strengthen transparency of optional fees charged by airlines, for everything from baggage to seat selection to in-flight meals.

In addition to delivering on previous commitments, the federal government is taking further action to help Canadians avoid junk fees wherever possible.

Cheaper Internet, Home Phone, and Cell Phone Plans

Canadians who want to switch to a cheaper internet or phone plan often encounter discouraging practices from telecom companies, such as cancellation fees which can prevent Canadians from saving money, or making them wait on the phone for hours to speak with customer service. Canadians can also face the end of promotional periods, and higher monthly bills without full awareness of their options.

Whether travelling abroad, changing your phone number, or being late on a payment, the extra fees charged by telecom companies add up, too. Canadians need to be aware of the potential junk fees they could face, and companies need to lower these fees to ensure Canadians can accurately plan how much their cell phone and other telecom services will cost them.

All Canadians should be able to access these essential services at affordable prices.

Canadians face all types of fees, over and above typical base costs, from insufficient funds fees to mobile roaming fees to even a fee to change your phone number. These fees add up.

Figure 3.1: Additional Cell Phone Fees Are Too High and Add Up

As announced in the 2023 Fall Economic Statement , the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has launched an investigation into international mobile roaming fees and is working with experts to analyze how roaming rates charged by Canadian companies compare to those charged by international telecom companies. The findings of this investigation will be published later this year.

The government has taken significant action to lower the cost of cell phone plans by 25 per cent—a commitment that has now been surpassed. In December 2023, Statistics Canada reported that cell phone plan costs declined by 50 per cent since December 2018.

Chart 3.3: The Cost of Cell Phone Plans has Fallen 52 per cent, 2016-2024

The government has also made unprecedented investments to ensure Canadians in all parts of the country, including in rural communities, have access to high-speed internet. The government has committed over $3.7 billion to more than 600 projects to help bring high-speed internet (50 Mbps download/10 Mbps upload) to over 1 million rural and remote households across Canada, including 35,000 Indigenous households.

Since 2015, the government has supported the expansion of high-speed internet access for Canadians, including rural communities which have slower and less reliable internet access than in urban centres.

In 2016, 84 per cent of Canadians had access to high-speed internet. By 2022, this figure increased to almost 94 per cent. This has been possible in part because of a significant increase in access in rural areas, moving from 39 per cent to 67 per cent over this period. The government remains committed to its target of ensuring 98 per cent of Canadians have access to high-speed internet by 2026 and 100 per cent of Canadians by 2030.

Expansion of High-Speed Internet to Rural Communities

The government has made significant progress to reduce the cost of internet, home phone, and cell phone plans, and to increase access to these services. We are focusing the next phase of our work on reducing the costs and barriers to switching providers, so Canadians can find better deals:

  • Carriers will be prohibited by the CRTC from charging consumers extra fees to switch carriers.
  • Carriers will be required to help consumers identify plans, which may include lower-cost plans, in advance of the end of a contract.
  • Carriers will also be required to provide a self-service option, such as an online portal, for customers to easily switch between or end plans with a provider.

The CRTC will be responsible for implementing these measures and will consult on specific requirements.

No-fee switching to cheaper telecom plans

Yash is a student who works part-time. When he started school nearly two years ago, he signed up for a promotional cell phone plan for students at $40 per month.

The promotional offer is nearing the end of its term. With these amendments, Yash receives a notification from his carrier that his promotion is about expire, and that his plan would be renewed at $65 per month—for the same features. Alternatively, his carrier suggests he could switch to a new plan, but that option comes with only half the data compared to his current plan.

Yash does some research and finds the same plan for $40 per month from a different carrier. He signs up with the new provider and then logs on to his existing carrier's website to cancel his service. With the click of a button, he cancels his service and will be able to transfer his phone number to the new carrier—at no cost, and in just a few minutes.

Yash secures a new contract at the same price as his old one, and with his phone already paid off, is able to switch carriers without any extra fees.

Transparency for Airline Fees

When booking a flight, every Canadian wants to get the best deal possible, but they are often surprised to find out there are additional costs on top of the advertised fare.

Figure 3.3: Extra Fees Charged by Airlines Can Add Up

Even though airlines must show a ticket price that includes taxes, fees, and charges, Canadians can still face additional fees for optional services at different steps of the journey. From selecting seats, to checking bags, to meals on board, it is only fair that Canadians have full transparency about the full cost of their flight.

  • Budget 2024 announces the government will strengthen transparency of fees for optional services charged by airlines, such as for seat selection, checked and carry-on baggage, meals on board, and in-flight entertainment. The government will do this by working with the Canadian Transportation Agency and airlines to ensure these fees are clearly laid out. This will help Canadians select fares based on the full price of the travel options that best meet their needs.

Calling on Provinces and Territories to Cut Junk Fees

Where junk fees fall under federal jurisdiction, the federal government is taking action. Many of the junk fees that frustrate Canadians are under provincial and territorial jurisdiction. That's why the federal government is calling on all orders of government to do their part to cut junk fees, so that Canadians can keep more of the money they worked hard to earn.

To advance this work with provinces and territories on unfair fees and practices, Budget 2024 announces:

  • The federal government will work with provinces and territories to identify and target junk fees charged in Canada.
  • The federal Office of Consumer Affairs will help reveal deceptive junk fee practices—wherever they exist in Canada—by advancing research and advocacy projects.

The federal government encourages all provinces and territories to work together to prioritize these important issues for Canadians. Priority action areas will include:

Concert and Sport Ticket Fairness

When it comes to sporting and event tickets, Canadians are looking for transparent, up-front pricing, and fair practices to keep costs low. The federal government, including the Competition Bureau, is doing its part to enforce federal protections against deceptive marketing practices, including hidden fees and charges.

Some provinces have taken steps to help their residents, such as Ontario's Ticket Sales Act which implemented protections for consumers buying event tickets.

Some other provinces need to do more to strengthen their consumer protection laws to safeguard the interests of Canadians. To make entertainment prices fair for everyone, Budget 2024 announces that:

  • Ticket sales transparency, to continue to protect Canadians from unexpected charges through upfront, all-in pricing;
  • Stronger protections for Canadians, including against excess fees and better ensuring they get timely refunds when events are cancelled; and,
  • Cracking down on fraudulent resellers and reseller practices which unfairly drive up prices, such as using bot technology to maliciously buy and resell tickets.

Cracking down on resellers to keep tickets for Canadians

Shannon and her friends were some of the lucky Canadians able to secure the access code for Taylor Swift's concert in Vancouver this December. As soon as Shannon got through the online waiting room she was excited to buy tickets for herself and three friends.

After Shannon tried to add her tickets to her cart, she was greeted by a message that the tickets she was interested in were no longer available—this is something she knew all too well. Each of her friends was trying to buy tickets, too, and had the same experience—the tickets they were hoping for had been sold to someone else.

While getting a ticket to the most popular concerts is always tough, it is even harder to get a ticket when resellers seek to make a profit by driving up prices for Canadians.

With new action in Budget 2024 to identify ways to address ticket resellers' practices that unfairly drive up prices, including the use of bot technology, Shannon and her friends will have a better chance at getting tickets the next time Taylor is performing in Canada.

Calling for stronger consumer protections across Canada

Nick can't wait to see his favourite hockey team—the Toronto Maple Leafs—in the playoffs. As soon as he hears the Leafs qualified for the first round, he heads online to buy tickets to the four games scheduled in Toronto.

While buying his tickets, Nick is pleased to see he is no longer charged extra fees beyond the advertised price, as required by the Competition Act and further reinforced by the Ontario's Ticket Sales Act. Previously, Nick used to pay about $20 more, per ticket, due to extra fees and surcharges.

He attends the first two home games. The Leafs excitedly win the series after game four of the first playoff round, so the last two games that Nick has tickets for are cancelled.

Nick waits a week for his refund to be processed, but he still hasn't received a payment from the ticket provider on his credit card. He then reaches out to the ticket provider to resolve the issue. If, after three weeks, the ticket provider does not get back to Nick, he can file a formal complaint with Consumer Protection Ontario.

By working with provinces and territories, the federal government will work to ensure that all Canadians can access the consumer protections that Nick was afforded.

The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency that has a crucial role in enforcing the Competition Act and defends Canadians against junk fees, which has led to a total of $12.6 million in penalties paid by Ticketmaster, StubHub, and TicketNetwork, as well as by car rental companies Avis and Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, and Discount.

The government recognizes the Competition Bureau's critical role in the economy, and this is why the government has taken several steps to provide the Competition Bureau with the resources and the tools it needs to more effectively achieve its mandate.

As an example of the work of the Competition Bureau, in 2019, Ticketmaster paid a $4 million penalty and $500,000 for the Competition Bureau's costs for investigating allegedly misleading pricing claims in online ticket sales. The Bureau's legal action against Ticketmaster, in defence of Canadian consumers, concluded that Ticketmaster's advertised prices were not attainable because they added mandatory fees during the later stages of a purchasing process.

Ticketmaster's junk fees were found to often add more than 20 per cent, and in some cases, over 65 per cent, to the advertised prices. The Competition Bureau's actions also led to a binding 10-year compliance agreement with Ticketmaster to ensure Canadians are not subject to junk fees and deceptive advertising.

In 2023, the Competition Bureau announced legal action against Cineplex for advertising movie tickets at a lower price than what many consumers actually have to pay.

In its application to the Competition Tribunal, the Bureau argues that the $1.50 online booking fee is misleading and means consumers can't buy tickets online at advertised prices. In that same application, the Bureau is seeking the Tribunal to order Cineplex to stop this form of advertising, pay a penalty, and issue restitution to affected consumers.

The Competition Bureau has been empowered to independently defend Canadians through an increased budget and legislative amendments to the Competition Act that has enabled more robust enforcement of competition law in Canada. In addition, the government's proposed amendments to the Competition Act will pave the way for private parties to bring challenges to anti-competitive conduct.

A Right to Repair Your Devices

From cell phones to computers to washers and dryers, it is frustrating—and expensive—to replace, rather than repair, your devices and appliances when they break. The current disposable lifecycle of many modern electronics and appliances is bad for the environment, and it is costly for Canadians.

Canadians expect the expensive devices they purchase to work well and last for years. And if these items fail, Canadians should be able to repair their broken appliances or devices—and at a fair price—rather than being forced to purchase a new product when one component fails.

To ensure Canadians can keep their devices working longer, and reduce harmful electronic waste in the process, the federal government is advancing a right to repair to increase product durability and repairability.

Important progress is already being made to secure these rights for Canadians, including:

  • Amending the Copyright Act to allow the circumvention of digital locks to diagnose, maintain, or repair a product. This will enable consumers to repair their devices where they choose.
  • Amending the Competition Act , as announced in the 2023 Fall Economic Statement, to prevent manufacturers from refusing, in an anti-competitive manner, to provide the parts, tools, or software needed to fix devices and products.

Building on this progress, Budget 2024 announces:

  • The government will launch consultations this June to develop a right to repair framework, which will focus on durability, repairability, and interoperability.
  • The federal government is also calling on provinces and territories to amend their contract laws to support a right to repair and interoperability. Quebec's Bill 29 is an example of how provinces can protect consumers by promoting right to repair.

Further details on the right to repair framework on home appliances and electronic devices will be announced in the coming months. The federal government is exploring how to address:

  • Planned obsolescence , which is when manufacturers intentionally create products that break quickly;
  • The merits of a durability index , which could help Canadians better understand how long their device is expected to last; and
  • If there is the need for further federal legislative changes to support right to repair.

More affordable repairs for electronic devices

Aaina cracked the screen on her new iPhone. Apple quotes her $499 to replace the screen. Aaina finds a third-party repair shop offering repair for $329. However, Apple's warranty policies mean the cheaper repair could void her warranty.

To avoid the risk of voiding her warranty, Aaina begrudgingly pays $170 more for Apple to repair it.

With further actions to support the right to repair, including provincial and territorial reforms, Aaina could get her screen fixed at the third-party repair shop without voiding the warranty on her new iPhone, saving her $170.

Every Canadian deserves access to affordable, modern banking tools. These tools help them pay their bills, save money, receive their government benefits, and build their credit. Ensuring every Canadian has access to affordable banking services is about fairness for every generation, because hard work isn't paying off like it used to. Hard working, middle class Canadians deserve to keep more of their money. They need it to get ahead.

While Canadians face a rising cost of living, bank profits have continued to grow—in part due to Canadians paying higher fees. Some banks have even recently increased the minimum balance required to waive monthly fees, making it even harder for people to keep their banking fees low. This is unfair. That's why the government is taking action to lower banking fees.

The federal government is using the regulatory and legislative tools at its disposal to cut the banking fees Canadians pay and help them improve their financial circumstances. No one should face steep penalties when they are just trying to get ahead.

Budget 2024 takes action to lower banking fees by capping non-sufficient funds fees, modernizing free and affordable bank account options, launching new consumer-driven banking tools, expanding financial help services, and doing more to crack down on predatory lending.

  • Cracking down on predatory lending by lowering the criminal rate of interest to 35 per cent APR (annual percentage rate).
  • Introducing the Canadian Mortgage Charter, which details the tailored mortgage relief that the government expects banks to provide borrowers who are facing financial difficulty with the mortgage on their principal residence.
  • Ensuring Canadians have an independent and transparent complaints body to help resolve banking issues, by designating the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments, as the single external complaints body for Canadians, effective November 1, 2024.
  • Requiring banks to automatically notify Canadians when their bank account or credit card balance falls below a set amount, set by default at $100, and requiring advance notice before renewing services.

Capping Non-Sufficient Funds Fees at $10

Non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees are charged when there is not enough money in a bank account to cover a cheque or pre-authorized debit transaction. These fees charged by banks can reach almost $50, disproportionately affecting low-income Canadians and people with poor credit history. Charging steep fees on people already struggling to stay on top of their bills only makes it more difficult for them to get ahead.

  • Requiring banks to alert consumers that they are about to be charged an NSF fee, and providing a grace period to deposit additional funds to avoid the fee;
  • Prohibiting multiple NSF fees when the same transaction reoccurs;
  • Restricting the number of NSF fees that may be charged to one in every 72-hour period; and,
  • Prohibiting NSF fees for small overdrawn amounts under $10.

The government will release draft NSF fees regulations in the coming months.

Enhancing Free and Affordable Bank Accounts

Canadians' banking needs have changed as more and more transactions happen online. The $0 per month and up to $4 per month bank accounts, currently offered by some of Canada's banks, need to reflect the reality of banking today, including more transactions to pay bills and transfer money—without extra fees.

To ensure affordable banking options meet the needs of Canadians, the government directed the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) to secure new agreements from financial institutions for enhanced free and affordable banking accounts.

  • Budget 2024 announces that FCAC is in negotiations with banks to secure enhanced agreements to offer modernized $0 per month and up to $4 per month bank accounts that reflect the realities of banking today, including more transactions, as well as expanded eligibility for $0 accounts.
  • The government hopes that FCAC can reach a positive outcome and secure an agreement that serves the interests of the wider Canadian public.

Anyone can get a low-cost bank account—but features are limited

While FCAC continues to encourage banks to upgrade their affordable bank account offerings, low-cost bank accounts are available to all Canadians.

These basic chequing accounts offer at least:

  • A free debit card;
  • 12 free debit transactions per month, including at least 2 in-branch transactions;
  • The ability to write cheques;
  • Free monthly printed statements;
  • The ability to set up pre-authorized payments; and,
  • Cheque image return or online cheque image viewing.

Today, banking has evolved and people need access to more transactions, without fees. This is especially important to help vulnerable groups avoid falling into debt and incurring avoidable fees, by offering more free debit transactions.

Select groups can get $0 bank accounts

The existing agreement with ten banks offers the same features as low-cost accounts to the following groups for free:

  • Seniors receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS); and,
  • Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) beneficiaries.

More people need access to financial services, but cost remains a barrier for many other vulnerable groups. FCAC is actively working to expand eligibility for the $0 per month account to more groups.

How do I sign up?

Visit a branch of one of the ten banks, with required paperwork and ID. Proof of eligibility is required for free accounts, such as proof of age for youth, proof of enrollment for students, or proof of benefit payments for seniors.

Consumer-Driven Banking

Consumer-driven banking, also known as open banking or consumer-driven finance, provides a way for people and businesses to securely transfer their financial data to different service providers, including banks, credit unions, and accredited fintechs.

Fintech companies have been limited in their ability to develop new financial tools largely due to a reliance on unsecure screen scraping, which pulls data from a bank account by reading the account information. This requires Canadians to share their banking credentials with fintech companies.

With consumer-driven banking, fintechs will be able to offer Canadians a way to securely share select data with the fintech tools of their choice—without sharing access to their bank account. The potential of consumer-driven banking includes new apps and tools to help Canadians' better keep track of bills, track a budget, collect and compare information to allow for better decisions when exchanging currencies or investing in the stock market, secure a loan, find a better deal on insurance, or track monthly rent payments to build up credit scores. These innovations can help make life more affordable, and even help young Canadians when it is time to buy a first home.

Before these new financial tools can become available, Canada needs a framework that makes sure this technology is secure for Canadians and that eliminates the risky practice of screen scraping.

To drive an innovative consumer-driven banking ecosystem in Canada, the 2023 Fall Economic Statement announced that the federal government would introduce legislation to establish Canada's Consumer-Driven Banking Framework. This Framework will regulate access to financial data, providing Canadians and small businesses with safe and secure access to financial services and products that help them manage and improve their finances.

  • Budget 2024 announces that the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) will be mandated to oversee, administer, and enforce Canada's Consumer-Driven Banking Framework.
  • Budget 2024 proposes to provide $1 million in 2024-2025 for FCAC to support preparation for its new responsibilities and to begin development of a consumer awareness campaign. The FCAC will transition to a full cost-recovery basis once the framework is in place.
  • Budget 2024 also proposes to provide $4.1 million over three years starting in 2024-25 for the Department of Finance to complete policy work necessary to establish and maintain a consumer-driven banking oversight entity and framework, including the implementation of a national security regime.

The government will soon table framework legislation that will expand FCAC's mandate and establish foundational framework elements related to scope, system participation, criteria and process for the technical standard, safeguards in respect of personal financial data security and integrity, and common rules.

For more details, see Canada's Consumer-Driven Banking Framework, released today, which provides details on the forthcoming legislative package.

Building your credit to get a mortgage

Through consumer-driven banking, people without established credit, such as young people and new Canadians, could build their credit scores through services that use transaction data or other payment data, rather than being limited to traditional ways to build credit history, which is not equally available to every generation. Tools that enable Canadians to use confirmation of timely rental payments to build a credit score are an example.

New tools coming to help you manage your subscriptions

To keep track of recurring bills and subscriptions, a consumer-driven banking system would provide Canadians secure access to services that would enable them to easily track payments and monitor subscriptions in one place. This would help them make budgeting decisions and improve their financial well-being by avoiding or eliminating unused or unwanted monthly payments.

More Free Financial Advice

Financial literacy is one of the keys to financial security. Many Canadians in difficult financial circumstances have benefitted from financial help services that provide advice and options. More of these services are needed to ensure all vulnerable people, especially those with low incomes, have access to the tools and information they need to achieve financial security. National charities, like Prosper Canada, provide these services, with a focus on expanding economic opportunity and economic empowerment for every Canadian.

  • Budget 2024 proposes to provide $60 million over five years, starting in 2024-25, to Prosper Canada to expand the community‑delivered financial help services available to Canadians. These enhanced services are expected to reach one million low- to moderate-income Canadians over five years, helping them receive nearly $2 billion in unclaimed tax and benefit income.

This support will enable Prosper Canada, working with community organization partners, to expand free programming and free advice services. These free programs help Canadians do their taxes and find the benefits they are entitled to, find affordable ways to build their savings, and improve their financial situations so they can get ahead. As announced in Chapter 8, the government is also advancing automatic tax filing to help more Canadians easily receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

Doing More to Crack Down on Predatory Lending

Predatory lenders can take advantage of the most vulnerable Canadians in our communities. Predatory loans, including high-interest installment loans, are a fast growing and widely held type of debt in Canada, and are disproportionately accessed by low-income Canadians, newcomers, and those with limited credit history. Some consumer groups have indicated that lenders often refinance high-cost loans to keep borrowers in a cycle of debt.

To protect financially at-risk Canadians, in Budget 2023, the government committed to lowering the criminal rate of interest, from the equivalent of 48 per cent APR to 35 per cent APR, following Quebec in setting the lowest maximum interest rate in Canada. The government also committed to limit the costs of payday loans to no more than $14 per $100 borrowed. The government is reinforcing its efforts to crack down on predatory lending, and moving forward with these reforms to protect Canadians on a priority basis.

To further protect the most financially at-risk Canadians, the government is going further to lower borrowing costs, limit the risk of harmful debt cycles, and help Canadians keep more of their money in their pockets.

  • To protect vulnerable Canadians from harmful illegal lenders, such as loan sharks, who try to circumvent the criminal rate of interest, Budget 2024 announces the government's intention to amend the Criminal Code to enhance enforcement of the criminal rate of interest. These amendments will include empowering law enforcement by prohibiting offering credit at a criminal rate of interest, and allowing for prosecutions of illegal and predatory lenders without the approval of the Attorney General.
  • Capping the costs of optional insurance products for high-cost loans, including payday loans;
  • Enhancing transparency and marketing practices for high-cost and payday loans, including limiting advertising of these products;
  • Strengthening payday loan regulations, including disclosure requirements to protect Canadians from harmful terms and conditions, including adding a minimum number of days for the loan terms, a requirement for borrowers to repay in installments, and prohibiting loan rollovers;
  • Increasing action and harmonization on proactive approach towards lead generators; and,
  • Enhancing monitoring and data collection practices in the high-cost loan market, including payday loans.

I Decided To Listen To Every Taylor Swift Album After Finally Watching The Eras Tour - And I Think I Have A New Favorite Era

I feel like a born-again Swiftie.

I have a confession: I fell out of love with Taylor Swift for a while.

I know, I know, it seemed that when everyone in the world was starting to fall even more in love with her, the music she made and her life didn’t hit as hard as my early-twenties self. While I heard plenty about Taylor Swift, from her mega Eras Tour to her friendships with Blake Lively or her years-long one with Selena Gomez, I hadn’t properly listened to her music in a long time.

Then, of course, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) began streaming on Disney+ , and while I hadn’t gotten the chance to see it in theaters, I decided to check it out on my big TV at home and see what I had been missing.

Of course, there were plenty of songs I recognized, all from my earlier days of liking Taylor Swift, but when she got to many of her songs from Folklore, Evermore, and more, I didn’t know them that well. So after I watched the movie, I decided to listen to every Taylor Swift album again—and I’m surprised at which one has become my favorite -- evermore . But before we get to how that came to be, let's rewind a bit...

Taylor Swift singing Shake It Off in The Eras Tour concert film.

Initially, My Favorite Album/Era Of Hers Was 1989

I grew up as a pop girl. My father works in the wedding industry, and at every wedding he performs, pop is the leading music he plays. I grew up constantly listening to the latest pop music.

That usually meant that most Taylor Swift stuff—at least her earlier albums—wasn’t often played in my house. But you want to know what it was? 1989.

Her album, which really cemented her transition to pop, is one that I have distinct memories of and have always loved listening to. Whether blasting “Blank Space” in the car or dancing to “Shake It Off” at school dances, it was my Swift album of choice for a long time.

Red Was Always A Close Second, And Reputation Was In Third

While Red was more country than pop, that was undoubtedly my second favorite era of hers. I loved “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and I used to sing “All Too Well” at the top of my lungs for a very long time. I sang it even more than the 10-minute version (which is one of her best music videos ), but that’s beside the point.

My third favorite era was Reputation. When it first came out, Swift got some backlash for suddenly switching up her vibe and releasing music like “Look What You Made Me Do” and “Ready For It,” but I was eating it up. I adored this new version of her, and I was looking forward to the potential of more albums like this.

But, ashamedly, I fell off a bit afterward and continued to do so until now.

Her Earlier Albums Were Fun To Me, But Not My Favorite Era

You’re probably wondering when I’m going to mention Fearless, Speak Now, or even the O.G. Swift album, Taylor Swift. That’s because I am not the biggest fan.

Again, I grew up with pop blasting in my household, so country was never really a thing. Swift’s earlier albums are certainly a lot more country than anything else.

While there were plenty of great songs from those albums that I did listen to, like “Love Story,” “Our Song,” “You Belong With Me,” and plenty more, they never hit quite as hard as some of her others, which is what leads me to this now.

I Had Never Listened To Evermore – And I Regret Not Doing So

Evermore came out in 2020, a few months after Folklore and a year after Lover. I had listened to Lover and liked the vibe it brought, but it wasn’t an album I replayed repeatedly.

Then, of course, 2020 happened.

Life was turned upside down for a while, and I was more preoccupied with trying to graduate and find a job for a long time. Listening to the new T-Swift albums was not my number one priority.

But I decided to listen to her new albums for a long time after watching The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version). I liked the vibes both gave during the concert, so I thought maybe I would like the albums.

And I genuinely mean this from the bottom of my heart – I wish I had listened to Evermore sooner.

In the next section, I’ll go into detail about what I feel regarding Folklore and Midnights, but this section is for Evermore. I had never felt so seen during an album, so heard. I started listening to it and was instantly transported to another part of the world.

The songs on Evermore are so expertly written that I was shocked at how great they were. I mean, obviously, Taylor Swift is a talented writer when it comes to her lyrics, but I don’t think I was quite expecting the amount of lyrical genius in some of her songs on this album.

There are plenty of songs I could point out, but the one I have to highlight is “Champagne Problems.” I saw the performance of it in the concert film, but listening to it is on another level; hearing about a woman saying no to a proposal because she doesn’t feel ready, she’s not emotionally there to take that next step – it hits so hard, especially as a mid-twenties adult.

Folklore And Midnights Are A Great Representation Of Taylor Now, But Evermore Has Become My Absolute Favorite

I’ll openly say I liked Folklore and Midnights in my rewatching. Both have very different vibes but are written lyrically well and have some great hits. I was still dancing like crazy listening to “Karma” two years after her album came out – and thinking even more about how she changed the lyrics to represent her current relationship with Travis Kelce .

Taylor Swift leaning against a chair while singing Vigilante Shit.

If you love Taylor Swift, here is everything she has coming up.

But there’s just something about Evermore that hits the hardest, and I think I know what it is— Evermore feels like an album that describes a young woman’s twenties. Swift wrote this album when she was barely in her thirties, and it feels like I’m opening someone’s journal and reading their most profound problems, insecurities about life, and so much more.

At the end of the day, despite how magical and whimsical some of the songs felt, they all hit very close to home, as I’m sure they do for many others. It’s an album that was composed during a tough time in our lives that still hits nearly four years later. No matter what, we all have these insecurities, strange feelings, and so much more – and it’s nice to hear someone as big as Taylor Swift speak about them candidly.

I have to say that I am excited for her next album, The Tortured Poet’s Department. While I know all the Swifties are waiting for RepTV , I’m excited for another Era of Swift and what she’s going to bring. And this time, I will not skip any of the albums because I’m a fan, and it’s nice to be back in it after all these years.

The run of 21 shows is a highly anticipated effort among fans of the two stars, who have long been friends and frequent collaborators.

The hitmakers — who collaborated on "1999" and "2099" off the 2019 album Charli — will play a handful arenas across the U.S. and Canada in the fall. The "Von Dutch" singer and the "Rush" singer will hit the road together in mid-September, kicking off Sweat in Detroit on Sept. 14.

Harley Weir

The superstars will play throughout September and into October, eventually wrapping up on Oct. 23 in Seattle. They'll make stops at iconic venues like New York City's Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles' Kia Forum, in addition to major cities like Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and others.

Both of the avant-pop musicians shared a tour teaser on Instagram . The brief clip features flashing imagery of the two singers, along with minimalist, brightly colored posters with the tour dates that appear to be inspired by rave flyers.

Sweat comes nearly one year after Sivan released his acclaimed, third studio album Something to Give Each Other in October 2023. The project's lead single, " Rush ," garnered to nominations for best pop dance recording at best dance video at the 2024 Grammys .

The upcoming string of live dates will also come on the heels of the release of Charli XCX's new album Brat , which is due out on Friday, June 7.

The Pop 2 artist kicked off the album release cycle of her follow up to 2022's Crash in late February when she dropped "Von Dutch." Since then, she's released a remix of the track featuring Addison Rae and her longtime producer A.G. Cook, as well as the singles "Club classics" and "B2b."
