parking can be get packed at time, but all the deputies are all so kind every time I visit.. I heard there's also a senior "dog-puty" I have not met the " dog-puty" yet, but if I ever do, I'll be sure to have some biscuit on hand for him

Went to drop off something for an incarcerated person and I was treated very disrespectfully. I literally felt like I was the prisoner. Completely treated me poorly due to my gender because a person of the opposite gender was treated 100% the opposite. Very ugly place.

Food is terrible and moldy. They don't give any incentive to the workers for volunteering to work, like food anymore.

Photo of Dawn S.

They can make you wait 10-15 minutes after your scheduled visit to go in and end your visit short but if you are less than 5 minutes late they reject you from visiting, When it's not busy and they could have accepted me.

The Correctional Dog is very good at its job. Don't let it catch you in the showers! Will attack if you show peen. Do not do that! Be nice and if you treat it well you will get time off your sentence and slide some extra goodies under the cell door.

Stayed 9 months in barracks. Was like a holiday retreat. Guards very professional and respectful. My record has been expunged this month and I've turned my life around. Thank you for the experience

Most of the sheriffs treat you with respect or maybe bcuz I've been going for so long. I go 2X/week to visit my husband. Who knows when it's going to finish. The only thing I don't like is the parking is so far from the jail and you must pay

Photo of Carey B.

It was my 1st time visiting an inmate and I was very confused. A Sheriff obviously saw that I didn't know the procedure of visiting, lockers, ID, keys, line up, money on books etc. A Sheriff came over to me and explained everything to me and walked me through the process. He definitely should work in human resources.

  • The amount and quality of the information depends on the state’s laws and the jail’s policies.

How do I find an inmate in juvenile detention?

In the United States, a juvenile is a person under the age of 18. If a juvenile is arrested for a crime, it is unlikely that their name will be publicly listed on an inmate search page or detention center roster, or will be released to the public. Only the juvenile’s parents or legal guardians will be given that information.

If the crime is a serious felony such as Capital Murder, some states will release their name to the public, either when they are first arrested or after they are convicted. However, in general, it is unlikely that an inmate who is a juvenile will have their name released in any public way.

Does the jail or prison have to keep the inmate in the county or state where they are charged or convicted?

No.  Even though 99.9% of all pre-trial and convicted inmates are kept in the state where they were arrested and/or convicted, they can be kept in any US jail or prison that will have them. This is seen in circumstances where a jurisdiction is overcrowded, or an inmate is moved for their safety. That said, a person must stand trial where they were arrested unless the presiding judge or prosecuting attorney agrees to move the offender’s trial to a different jurisdiction if it is likely they will not get a fair trial.

What if I can’t find an inmate and I know they are in custody in Orange County?

If you know an inmate is in custody in Orange County, and you can’t find them, it can mean one of several things: 1.    Either you or the jail has the spelling of the inmate’s name inputted incorrectly. 2.    The jail has not yet updated their booking information or roster. 3.    The inmate has already been released. 4.    The inmate has either been arrested or is being housed in another jail. 5.    The inmate is underage; therefore, it is illegal to post their information, or the inmate you are trying to find had their age incorrectly listed as someone under age 18.

I know the person was arrested and in jail, but my search in the roster comes back as “no record found.” What happened?

Same answer as that above. If you know an inmate is in custody in Orange County, but your search comes back in the roster as “no record found.”, it can mean one of several things: 1.    Either you or the jail has the spelling of the inmate’s name wrong. 2.    The jail has not yet updated their booking information or roster. 3.    The inmate has already been released. 4.    The inmate has either been arrested or is being housed in another jail. 5.    The inmate is underage; therefore it is illegal to post their information, or the inmate you are trying to find had their age incorrectly listed as someone under age 18.

I was released from jail in Orange County, but my record still shows. When will it go away?

If your record of arrest and booking is still showing online, even though you were released, it is because some jails allow that information to remain public indefinitely. Unfortunately, even though the charges against you may have been dropped, many jails will not erase that information from their public records voluntarily.

In a situation like this your only option will be to get an attorney and request they petition the court to force the jail to remove this information. That said, if you were in fact found guilty of the crime you were arrested for, it is unlikely they will remove the information surrounding your arrest and conviction.

An inmate’s family member just died; how can I let them know right away?

The death of a family member is one of the few times, if not the only time, that a jail will take a message for an inmate. Because of the sensitivity of the tragic news, when a family member has died, the news will be transmitted by a member of the clergy, a counselor or someone who is very high ranking within the jail.

Jail management understands that a sudden death of a loved one could cause a violent emotional response that jeopardizes the safety of staff or other inmates.

An inmate’s family member just died; will they be allowed to attend the funeral?

The death of a family member is one of the few times, if not the only time, that a jail will allow an inmate, whether it pre-trial or post-conviction, to be allowed outside of the jail. Even if they are allowed outside the jail, they will have to have at least two armed escorts. An inmate attending a funeral is an extraordinary cost, use of staff and potential danger to the public. That is why it is rarely allowed.

This is not always the case though, and whether an inmate can attend a funeral depends on the inmate’s security classification, whether the jail has the staff to handle it, official jail policy, whether or not the inmate has an attorney that can push the right people, including the judge overseeing the inmate’s case, etc.

What determines whether an inmate is placed in low or high security facilities?

An inmate’s security classification depends on the following: 1.    The inmate’s current crime. 2.    The inmate previous crimes. 3.    The inmate’s history for violence within the walls of the facility. 4.    The inmate’s gang affiliation. 5.    The jail's current distribution of inmates.

What information is available about an inmate?

The information that a jail or court releases publicly about an inmate depends on the laws in the state, the policy of the jail, and the sheriff’s or warden’s individual decision.

Jail booking records and rosters can include more or less, the following information: •    Full name of the inmate •    Inmate's physical characteristics (age, sex, height, weight, etc.) •    Inmate’s mugshot(s) •    Booking number, Inmate ID#, Jacket #, etc. •    Booking date and time •    Charges or offense details – the applicable statute •    Bond or bail amount, if applicable •    Court date, if set, plus the court name and location •    Previous arrests in this jurisdiction, conviction details, and sentence

What is vinelink.com?

Vinelink, which you will see referenced when discussing public information about offenders and inmates, is a national public roster that both allows the public to look up and see the person’s status, plus be able to track their movements, whether it involves being transferred from one facility to another or being released from custody.

The tracking feature is especially helpful for those who are victims of, or witnesses to, a crime and fear that the release of an offender may be dangerous to them or someone close to them.

Anyone can register with Vine to receive automated notifications via email, text or phone. It is available in 48 states and 2,900 jails and prisons.

Here is a short video explaining why it started and how it works.

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ cleverly brings Neil Gaiman’s comic book sleuths to life

Jayden Revri and George Rexstrew in "Dead Boy Detectives."

In the funny, terrifying, colorful, oddly lovely, lovably odd “ Dead Boy Detectives ,” premiering Thursday on Netflix, deceased putative teenagers Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri) investigate what’s troubling troubled ghosts.

Created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner for DC Comics, the eponymous team was born on the pages of “The Sandman” in 1991 and made an appearance, played by much younger actors, in the third season of “ Doom Patrol ,” the best of all superhero series. But the present show, developed by Steve Yockey, is located within “The Sandman Universe,” at least to the extent that Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who played Death in the Netflix “Sandman” adaptation , makes a brief appearance here.

Netflix’s lively, unusual adaptation makes the most of Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Sandman’

Neil Gaiman’s 20th century comic about the King of Dreams becomes a 21st century TV series — and even the changes are true to the author’s vision.

Edwin, who died in 1916, is formal, reserved, repressed and orderly. Charles, who passed away in the 1980s, is comparatively a wild boy; he wears a “ska” button in his lapel and a “rude boys” patch on his shoulder, and says “brills” and “innit” and “oi!” and such. They are teenagers not in person but only in persona; the actors are well into their 20s, which allows, psychologically, for more sophisticated plotlines. (It’s sort of a sexy show, in a chaste way, driven by longing and jealousy.) Although they are friendly ghosts and walk the Earth by choice, they are not without trauma, of which Edwin has an extra measure, having spent seven decades in Hell because of a clerical error.

A girl with long platinum blonde hair smiles.

Over the decades since they became pals, the pair have established themselves as well-regarded sleuths for the troubled dead of London — they rent an office, with office furniture and files like any living private eyes — avoiding Death whenever she comes to town; they have no desire to pass on into the afterlife or to give up their profession. They take payment — ghost economics are sketchy, but some have money. (Though a misanthropic ghost lighthouse keeper, bedeviled by other ghosts — “If I wanted to be around people, I’d haunt a Denny’s” — offers salt water taffy and “a cursed magic 8 ball.”)

As they go along they will collect collaborators, progressing from a Hardy Boys model to a Scooby gang. (We get a “Scooby Doo” clip, to make a point, and pay tribute.) First is psychic Crystal (Kassius Nelson), from whom they exorcise her ex, a demon named David (David Iacono), and who can see dead people. Following a lead, they travel together to Port Townsend, Wash., which is to say Vancouver, B.C., for the tax breaks and production advantages. Here they’ll meet chipper, chirpy Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), whose near-death supernatural encounter allows her also to see the deceased. She has “watched hundreds of hours of detective anime and cartoons” and so feels qualified to join the gang. Crystal and Niko rent rooms above cynical tattooed butcher Jenny (Briana Cuoco), who will eventually join in.

Pressure comes from several directions. There are the particular challenges of the episodic adventures, alongside and feeding into long arcs that pit them against Esther (Jenn Lyon), a glamorous witch and their primary nemesis; the Cat King (Lukas Gage), who has trapped Edwin, who interests him strangely, under magical house arrest in Port Townsend; and the Night Nurse (Ruth Connell), an afterlife middle manager — once again, the realm of Death is portrayed as a bureaucracy, ruled by “permits and approvals” — who is out to corral the boys, whose continued presence on Earth offends her sense of order.

A girl with curly hair near a red metal ladder.

Supernatural physics follow whatever rules the writers make up. The ghosts of “Dead Boy Detectives” are not bound to any location; they travel by mirrors; they can physically interact with the world of things and the living, though they lack smell and taste, which makes eating unpleasant; they can put on visible human disguises when necessary. Various other mythological agents, recipes and gewgaws are crafted as desired. Talking cats, insulting sprites, a sea beast, a mushroom monster, a former walrus named Mick (Michael Beach), who runs the local (real) magic shop. You go with the paranormal flow.

We’ve seen other series in which mortal or immortal agents help unquiet souls to complete unfinished business and move on into the light or whatever — “ Ghost Whisperer ,” “ Deadbeat ,” “ Dead Like Me ,” my beloved “ Ghost Girls ,” last year’s excellent “School Spirits,” in which a high school student sets out to solve her own murder. And, of course, putting young people into supernatural situations, which lends itself especially well to humor, is as common as candy on Halloween.

But if there’s nothing groundbreaking here, it’s all uncommonly well done — cleverly written, smartly cast, sensitively played, marvelously realized. It’s disturbing at times, yet sweet at others, and comic as often as not. There is animation. You can occasionally anticipate a twisted turn, because it’s a twist long years of genre exercises have taught you to expect. But a series can feel fresh without being original. And there are surprises enough.
