El Colorado Ski & Snowboard the Andes
El Colorado, Chile
Located just over an hour from the Santiago International Airport, El Colorado is considered the locals mountain in the tri-resort complex of Tres Valles. While not as international as Valle Nevado or as chic as La Parva, El Colorado offers the most lifts and the best terrain park. El Colorado also has the best access to Santa Teresa, some of the most spectacular off-piste, lift-accessed terrain in Chile. In 2012 El Colorado added Valle Olimpico to its terrain opening up vast bowls with southern exposure.
Although El Colorado receives far less attention than its neighbors, its conical volcanic peak reaches 3333 meters (10,935 feet) and its south facing slopes have an impressive 906 meter (2971 feet) vertical drop with over 2500 acres of terrain evenly suited for advanced, intermediate and beginning skiers and snowboarders. The Cono Este lift accesses El Colorado’s steepest and deepest terrain and provides awesome views of the surrounding Andes. We also take advantage of our private transportation to lap Santa Teresa when open. Over the years El Colorado has become a favorite stomping ground for our guests and guides alike. Due to El Colorado’s proximity to Santiago it is a featured resort on most of CASA’s Chilean tour itineraries. Our groups spend their nights in the village of Farellones, which is located at the base of El Colorado’s lifts.

Located 39 km away from Santiago, El Colorado is very near from Farellones. Its maximum height is 3330 meters and it features over a thousand hectares of skiable ground. The complex also features a system to create snow, if it were necessary, and in conjunction with Valle Nevado and La Parva, it is the largest skiable surface in South America.
To get to El Colorado, from Santiago, you drive towards the Andes through Kennedy Avenue or Las Condes Avenue, taking the Road to Farellones, where you need to drive for another 5km until you reach the Ski Center. Cars can only go up between 8am and 2pm, and cars go down the mountain between 2pm and 8pm. All cars must drive with chains around their tires.
Hotel infrastructure is internationally recognized for including a modern and comfortable vacations center that includes heated swimming pool, sauna, gym, restaurant, pub, entertainment room, terrace, TV and the best view of the Andes, amongst other things.
El Colorado features 22 tracks for ski (51% of the skiable surface of the mountain). Track classification is as follows: green (easy), blue (average), red (advanced) and black (experts). There are also 18 lifts that take people around the different places in the mountain where you can ski and snowboard, and that work between 9am and 5pm.
For those who don’t know how to ski or want to learn new techniques, El Colorado has a Ski School that gives private or group classes to adults and children starting at 4 years of age.

El Pueblo Trading Post was the first permanent settlement in what is now Pueblo. It was constructed in 1842 along the banks of the Arkansas River to facilitate fur trade along the Santa Fe Trail, but was then only a decade later after conflict between local Native Americans and fur traders led to the Christmas Tragedy of 1854. Decades later the settlement of Pueblo grew up around the abandoned ruins of the trading post, until it was demolished and its location was lost beneath the rapidly-growing city.
El Pueblo History Museum has been in operation since 1959, and currently occupies the site of the historic trading post in downtown Pueblo. The site was rediscovered in 1989, by a class led by anthropology professor William G. Buckles of the University of Southern Colorado (now CSU-Pueblo). Following this discovery, the city and the Colorado Historical Society worked together to relocate the museum to the site. The current museum complex was completed in 2003, and includes the main building containing three exhibits and multiple event rental spaces, a reconstruction of the El Pueblo trading post showcasing life during the mid-19th century, and the Warren G. Buckles Archaeology Pavilion where the excavation site remains open to this day.
Visitors can see all of this, as well as purchase regional foods and crafts, books on Pueblo, Colorado, and western history, and Colorado souvenirs in the Colorado Proud museum store.

New national tour of "Company" brings modern take on classic tale to Denver Center for the Performing Arts
By Dillon Thomas
Updated on: April 24, 2024 / 6:19 PM MDT / CBS Colorado
The national tour of "Company,' visiting the Denver Center for the Performing Arts next month, promises to bring audiences a new take on a classic musical. The show, which plays at the Buell Theatre from May 22 through June 2, has been redesigned to make the story more applicable to modern audiences.
The show, which was first written in the late 1960s, originally followed the story of a man named Bobby. Bobby was a single man who had not been married nor had any children.
Now, this new version of the production follows the story of a woman named Bobbie who has a similar lifestyle.
"The societal pressures for women today, turning 35 especially without children, are very different than an unmarried man," said Britney Coleman, the actress cast as "Bobbie."
Bobbie is a woman who is celebrating her 35th birthday in the production.
"It would be like any other birthday if it weren't for the fact that she is single, doesn't have any kids, isn't in any committed relationship. And yet all of her very close friends are, and they have strong opinions about it," Coleman said.
Coleman said the storyline is one that she can personally connect with, and one which she feels many in the audience will be able to as well.
"I have personally experienced a lot of people saying, 'hmm, it is about time (to get married and have children), isn't it?'" Coleman said.
Matt Rodin, the actor who portrays "Jamie" in the production, said the new take on the gender of characters has modernized the story in a way more people will be able to relate with.
"It is sort of shocking to see how these men treat these women (in the original production). To now have that flipped on its head, it makes it feel like it is happening right now," Rodin told CBS News Colorado's Dillon Thomas. "It gives us, the audience in 2024, the opportunity to know these people in a way that we might not recognize them if they were playing the same roles in the 1970s. They are contemporized."
Those who loved the original production should still find the current take to be funny, fun and lively, according to Coleman.
"A lot of our script hasn't changed, other than the pronouns," Coleman said.
"What I love about this show is that it poses questions rather than giving us answers of what it means to be in partnership, what it means to be married, what it means to have relationships," Rodin said.

The entire festival boards buses at 6 a.m. and heads out to public and private land to see Native American ruins, one-room school houses, historic ranches, lots of wildlife and to search for the elusive little bird. DENVER — Michael Jackson's unparalleled artistry is showcased in the musical "MJ" at Denver's Buell Theatre. The Tony Award-winning musical is centered around the making of the 1992 "Dangerous World Tour." Created by Tony Award-winning director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, "MJ" offers a look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted Michael Jackson into legendary status. "MJ" is startin’ somethin' in Colorado through Sunday.
The Improvised Shakespeare Company
DENVER — The Improvised Shakespeare Company is back at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts' Garner Galleria Theatre. Each night, the company will create a fully improvised Shakespearean masterpiece right before the audience's eyes. The evening of hilarious off-the-cuff comedy uses the language and themes of William Shakespeare, but with no planning, rehearsal or script. Will the play turn out to be a tragedy, comedy or history? Even the actors aren't sure. Tickets for the company's engagement, which runs through Sunday, are sold at DenverCenter.org .
Fireflies

ARVADA — The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities' final production of the season is the comedy "Noises Off." Get ready for barely-controlled chaos and flying sardines in this play that takes a trip behind-the-scenes of a flop of a play and shows what happens when everything that can go wrong does. "Noises Off" plays the Main Stage Theatre through Sunday, May 5.
DENVER — The Denver Center for the Performing Arts has opened its new Theatre Company production "Emma" at the Wolf Theatre. The production is a new and unconventional adaption of Jane Austen's classic comedy. A bit zany and refreshingly contemporary, playwright Kate Hamill infuses the language and perspectives of today into Austen’s beloved characters. "Emma" will be performed at the Denver Performing Arts Complex through Sunday, May 5.
Where Did We Sit On The Bus?
DENVER — Nine-year-old Bee Quijada sits in a suburban classroom. During a history lesson on Rosa Parks, she asks, "Where did Latinos sit on the bus?" What follows in the one-person show "Where Did We Sit On The Bus?" is a theatrical mixtape of Bee’s life. The drama plays the Singleton Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex through Sunday, June 2. For tickets and showtimes, visit DenverCenter.org.
DENVER — There is no better venue for live music in the country than Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The Red Rocks 2024 concert schedule (announced so far) is still growing and this spring and summer looks to be one for the record books.

You can purchase tickets online at GeorgetownLoopRR.com .
Orcas: Our Shared Future
DENVER — The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has opened its newest temporary exhibition: "Orcas: Our Share Future." The exhibition traces the evolution of our beliefs about orcas, from fear to admiration and awe, as we discover their intelligence and complex social structures. Guests will also learn about the Indigenous peoples of North America’s Northwest Coast, whose respect for orcas is reflected in their art and traditions.

Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience
Reflecting on the impact of the grit conference 2024: fostering resilience and community.
In March 2024, the Ent Center for the Arts buzzed with energy as the GRIT: Resiliency in Action Conference unfolded, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended. Hosted by the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience, this one-day event was a testament to the power of resilience and community.
Thanks to the generous funding from El Paso County and the American Rescue Plan Act, the conference was accessible to all, welcoming a diverse cohort eager to explore personal growth and resilience. From seasoned GRIT Coaches to newcomers, participants delved into the core principles of the GRIT Program, gaining insights and tools to navigate life's challenges.
A stellar lineup of speakers graced the stage, each sharing their unique journey of resilience. Olympians Amy Van Dyken-Rouen and Hunter Kemper captivated the audience with their tales of triumph over adversity, inspiring attendees to embrace their inner strength. Mark Yarbrough, a burnout expert, and Dr. Charles Benight, a trauma and resilience researcher, provided invaluable expertise, enriching the conference with their insights.
Throughout the day, attendees engaged in enriching discussions and activities, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. Lunch, provided at no cost, became a hub for networking and connection, further amplifying the community spirit of the event.
The impact of the GRIT Conference reverberated beyond its attendees, capturing the attention of local media outlets. The Colorado Springs Gazette underscored the conference's relevance in the aftermath of the UCCS shooting, emphasizing the importance of resilience in times of adversity. Meanwhile, KOAA highlighted UCCS's commitment to free online resiliency training, aligning with the conference's mission of promoting resilience within the broader community.
As we look back on the success of the GRIT Conference, we are reminded of the transformative power of resilience. Through shared knowledge, experiences, and support, we can forge a path to a more resilient future for all.
