San Pedro De Atacama Wonders (4Days/3Nights)
This is the second time booking through Tour Radar where an agent took a series of day trips to "create" a multi-day tour. Luckily all tours were through Turis Tours as they were great and the Turis staff was very helpful even beyond the tours booked (including weather threatening cancellations of tours). The guide was great but the archaeological tour was not good - one of the 2 sites we visited was closed so we climbed a nearby mountain to "look out" on the ruins. The geysers and the lagoons were awesome!
Atacama Adventure 4D/3N
Great trips / adventures with very knowledgeable guides, didn’t seemed rushed despite some very early starts, very comfortable hotel with adequate content of lunch boxes when required
La Paz to Buenos Aires: Andes & the Atacama Desert
Some of the hotels/hostels were not up to expected standard with cleanliness and amenities. We also had a 10 hour bus journey and didn't even see Salta before getting up early to fly to Buenos Aires. Apart from that very good itinerary and especially enjoyed the Salt Flats.

Southern Divide
Was a good tour but needs a few changes to make it great. We’re a 57 and 60 year old married couple who love adventure. For us too much time was spent in cities (Cusco 4 nights way too much) and not enough time in desert. Our guide Antonio saved the trip from disaster with his positive, happy attitude. G Adventures really needs to check the tour operators they use for the Salt flats and a few other tours as they’re not up to scratch. Disappointing that G Adventures didn’t perform when we had a situation in the Salt Flats and Bolivian border.
Atacama Desert Route 7D
One day with one of Our Expert Guides in Your Car
From Buenos Aires to La Paz via Uyuni (15 Nights)
This tour was excellent. I would give it 9.5 out of 10 for planning and 9 out of 10 for execution. Value for money was better than 10 out of 10. I have some comments to help you improve your services. Your tour schedule either printed without the RH side if done in letter format, or without the bottom bit if done in landscape. Once the tourist has booked the trip, they do not need all the pictures and marketing guff: dump it, in favour of a more readable itinerary. The tourist needs to know what happens when. Full details of place and time are needed. A tour should indicate not only what time it starts, but also how long it is and what else is necessary. For example you included generic statement that park fees were the tourist's responsibility, but he main Bolivia park fee was incorrect, and there were 2 other park fees that had to be paid which were a surprise. The tourist needs to plan their currency availability. they need to know exactly which days they cross borders, for example. Being picked up in BA is very good, especially as the tourist arrive without A pesos. If the tourist needs to go from bus station to accommodation or accommodation to bus station, then they need to know, how to get there, approx cost of taxi etc, and how to ask for it. Several tours arrive late, I guess that is South America. One day our tour did not arrive atall, but we were rebooked for the following day. No worries. We had booked a private room. The accommodation in the Bolivia Park did not have a private room, unless it had a private bathroom (which we had not contracted for), so they charged us about $30 extra. I have no real problem with paying that and I am not asking for anything from you, but if a private room is not available, you should not promise it. :) The accommodation in BA and the Selina hostals was excellent. Please ensure that all guides are english speaking: most were but our excellent drive in Bolivia was Spanish only. :( Leaving us at midday in Uyuni to wait for a 9:30 bus was a pain in the arse. Overall, well done, we will definitely consider using tourradar again. John Parkinson
Uyuni Salt Flats & Desert Adventure 3D/2N (Atacama to Uyuni)
This adventure tour was outstanding! Our driver, David, was an incredible leader and gave 110% in making the experience as good as it gets for our little group. Although I was the only non-Spanish speaker on the tour, David was very patient with understanding me and always made sure I was okay. His professionalism and dedication to the tour made for a very positive time. We hit all the beautiful stops that were in the itinerary with great pacing and we had plenty of time in each location to soak it all in and take proper photos and videos. We were usually the first ones at each location, which should not be overlooked: we got there before all the rest of the tours came strolling through. Excellent for capturing memories! There was also plenty of food/drink during our lunch & dinner portions, lodgings were decent & comfortable, and the Nissan jeep we rode in was well equipped for the journey. For animal lovers, I saw tons of flamingos, llamas, and vultures on the way. The stars at night were also brilliant. Going through the various landscapes was a natural feast for the eyes too: vast deserts, colored lagoons, unique rock formations, shapely valleys, and of course, the impressive Uyuni salt flats. I'll never forget the experience and I once again want to stress how good of a driver we had in David. Thanks for the memories! The only thing I can say negatively, is that they failed to pick me up on the day I was schedule to depart. But they were quick to apologize, reimbursed me for the extra night's stay, and I ended up needing more paperwork in the meantime to receive my Bolivia Visa. So it didn't end up being the end of the world as I may have been rejected at the border. I also missed a night's stay I booked at a hotel in La Paz and an additional day there so that was unfortunate. It should also be noted that the altitude adjustment is no joke. Be prepared for the change in height. But overall, my experience was very positive and they ran the tour very well. I'd definitely recommend.
Overland San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni and La Paz (6 Nights) (from Calama to La Paz)
Great driver and very well organised tour, would highly recommend
What people love about San Pedro De Atacama Tours
We loved our trip to the Atacama. This package delivered all we could ask for. We were fortunate enough to have the same friendly and knowledgeable guide (Kevin) 3 days in a row. Accomodation was excellent. Would recommend this package to others
I booked the 4 Day Atacama tour. Marilda answered all my questions before the trip within minutes and was prompt in addressing all my additional requests. Unfortunately, due to altitude sickness I was unable to do the tour, but Marilda and the local tour company in San Pedro de Atacama kept checking on me and tried to facilitate last minute changes. I HIGHLY recommend this tour operator.

Chaxa Lagoon. A golden landscape in the desert
Mi congratulations for the excelent coordination of my trip to San Pedro, everything went just fine and we were very happy with the way we were cared for by Sr Gabriel and all the excursions we did. We were very content with each of the tours, especially the guides who accompanied us to see the Moon Valley (Pato) and the Archaeological Tour (Salvador) knew a lot and very very nice. Totally recommendable!!!

Explore the otherworldly landscapes of the Atacama, the world’s driest desert. Your Latin America For Less travel advisor can help you create the perfect itinerary tailored to your interests and preferences.
Laguna Verde
Like an immense green mirror, the Green Lagoon displays a reflection of the nearby Licancabur Volcano, creating a magical setting that may be why the area was considered sacred by the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the territory.
Tatio Geysers
The geysers at El Tatio are one of the desert’s most awe-inspiring spectacles. At dawn, the vapor from dozens of fumaroles spring up from the heart of the desert, then disperse into thousands of colors spread across the sky.
Valley of the Moon
For thousands of years the wind has carved strange, desolate, stone shapes into the Valley of the Moon and, in the thin atmosphere of the altiplano, these stand out sharply against the startlingly blue sky.
Thermal Pools
Heated by underground geothermal activity, the thermal baths of Puritama maintain a pleasant temperature throughout the year, making them the perfect place for some relaxation after a long day of hiking or sightseeing.
The abundant salt lakes of the Atacama desert attract a wide array of wildlife and offer some of South America’s most otherworldly scenery. Here you can also visit the Salar de San Pedro de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile.

We are back in Malta! We would like to thank you and your team for a most enjoyable vacation. Considering the many countries (Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil) we visited, and the 14 flights we took, all went well.
Our trip was incredibly successful in three different countries: Chile, Brazil and Peru. And in every instance, the coordination of details and execution were impeccably accurate regardless of the country visited.

San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni 4 day Tour
4 days tour to the Uyuni Salt Flat with departure and return to San Pedro de Atacama (Chile)
Departing and returning to San Pedro de Atacama, the Uyuni Salt Flats from San Pedro de Atacama in 4 days is a classic among travelers. We work with the best drivers and accommodations available for you to enjoy this expedition. During the tour you will travel through a very diverse Andean landscape, visiting the main attractions of the Eduardo Avaroa National Andean Fauna Reserve, passing through the Salvador Dali desert, the Polque hot springs, the geyser field, the spectacular altiplano lagoons and the great Uyuni Salt Flats, where you will see a magical sunrise.
Please note that during the tour you will travel long distances in 4x4 and visit very isolated areas with an extreme climate and in some areas at an altitude of over 4500 meters, so if you are looking for more comfort we advise you to book the private option in hotels.
🔊 The tour starts and returns to San Pedro de Atacama, if you prefer to end the tour in Uyuni or start it from Uyuni, we also offer those options.
Are you ready for these 4 days? 🤩 Here are all the details:

Important information
It is very important to acclimatize to the altitude before starting the tour, as the tour passes through high-altitude areas.
🚨 This tour includes two border crossings to access Bolivia and return to Chile. Access regulations may change, and we ask travelers to make sure they meet the requirements for access to the country both in terms of health and immigration (visas). You can see all the information about the nationalities that need to apply for a visa and the necessary documentation to carry out the procedure by clicking here .
🕗 During the rainy season (January-March) the ending time may be considerably delayed, so we recommend not to take any transportation or flight to another place for that same day. The itinerary may vary in adverse weather conditions or due to force majeure to ensure the safety of travelers. In case it is not possible to access the Incahuasi Island, the visit will be substituted by a sunset view of the salt flat.

San Pedro de Atacama
The Uyuni Salt Flats from San Pedro de Atacama in 4 days will start at 7:00 A.M. with pick-up from your accommodation. You will board the minibus that will take you to the Bolivian border. You will get your passport stamped and while the drivers prepare the 4x4 car and load your luggage, you can have breakfast. All set, the adventure begins!
White Lagoon and Green Lagoon
You will enter the Eduardo Avaroa National Andean Fauna Reserve, where you will spend most of the day. Your first stops will be White Lagoon and Green Lagoon, located at the foot of the Licancabur volcano. You will continue to the Salvador Dali Desert, a large high plateau surrounded by imposing mountains, and an incredible high Andean landscape.
Polque Hot Springs - Geysers
The road continues to the Polque hot springs , where you will change into small changing rooms and enjoy a bath in natural thermal water that contrasts with the cold weather. The challenge is to get out of these hot springs!
After lunch with a view of the landscape surrounding the hot springs, the Sol de la Mañana Geyser field awaits you, full of fumaroles and small geysers that make it a unique landscape where you can feel the power of nature.
Finally, you will arrive at the Red Lagoon , one of the most spectacular of the altiplano and undoubtedly the most photographed of the itinerary. You will take a short walk along the edge to explore this place, where 3 different species of flamingos nest. You will then head to Villa Mar, where you will have dinner and spend the night in the type of room chosen during your reservation.
DAY 2 Villa Mar - Valley of the Rocks - Salt Hotel in Colcha K
Private room in Hotel de Sal Tambo Loma
Private room in Palacio de Sal Hotel (or similar) ⭐⭐⭐
Valley of the Rocks and Lost Italy
After breakfast, you will visit Lost Italy , natural geological formations reminiscent of the desert landscapes of cowboy movies. Next to this area is the Valley of Rocks , a plain full of rocks of volcanic origin that with erosion have created shapes known as the World Cup or the Camel, where you will spend some time taking fun pictures.
Vinto Lagoon and Black Lagoon
You will continue the route between different lagoons until you reach the Vinto Lagoon . If the weather permits you will hike along its shore, otherwise you will continue straight to the Black Lagoon (or Hidden Lagoon). In this area, you will have an hour free to walk along the road to the lagoon itself and walk through the valley full of llamas that leads to the lagoon itself. When you return to the car the driver will be waiting for you with the table set. You will have lunch with the group and continue your adventure.
Anaconda Canyon and Sora Wetlands
The Anaconda canyon offers panoramic views of the meandering river at the bottom of the canyon itself. From natural viewpoints, you will appreciate the immensity of this place. In the final stretch of the day, you will make one more stop at the Sora wetland , a place of choice for many birds and especially camelids, full of the endemic flora of the altiplano.
We especially like this place because it contrasts with the other slightly more arid areas and lets you see the diversity of the Bolivian altiplano.
Return to the accommodation
On the way back to your accommodation you will stop at a small village that has a shop where you can have a few local beers (yes, craft beers from the Bolivian Altiplano). Also, technology permitting, you will be able to connect to their Wi-Fi. Finally, at sunset, you will head to the best salt hotel in the area, where you will dine with views of the altiplano and rest in private rooms built entirely of salt.
HOWLANDERS' COMFORT BONUS💙

You will have breakfast at the foot of the island to recharge, we assure you that it will be one of the best breakfasts with the best views you have ever experienced. It is time to head to the next stop: a photo session in the Uyuni Salt Flats.
Uyuni Salt Flats - Colchani
You have already seen a good part of the Uyuni Salt Flats and now it is time to take some pictures. Where does the tour San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni 4 day Tour start
The tour starts in San Pedro de Atacama. If you arrive in San Pedro de Atacama from Santiago de Chile, the best option is to fly directly to Calama. At Howlanders you can also book a private transfer between Calama airport and San Pedro de Atacama .
If you are arriving from Peru you will most likely be arriving from Cuzco or Arequipa. In this case we recommend you to take a bus that crosses the Arica-Tacna border and then takes you to San Pedro de Atacama, although it is a somewhat complex combination, since it is necessary to combine several buses.
Finally, you can also get to San Pedro directly from Salta (Argentina) by a direct bus that takes approximately 11 hours.

How to Tour San Pedro de Atacama in a Weekend
Today I’m going to be talking about a major South America bucket list item that I finally checked off with my friend Nick- visiting the Atacama Desert in the north of Chile! We had a limited amount of time, so I’ll be covering how to tour San Pedro de Atacama in just a weekend in the following post.
Before we jump into tour logistics and details, let’s talk about some fun facts about San Pedro!
The Atacama desert is the driest non-polar desert on Earth receiving well under an inch of precipitation per year! The parched land is almost completely lacking in moisture and can be found on a plateau stretching over 100,000 square km in the north of Chile.
The main hub of the area, the little village of San Pedro , was once a mining town, but long ago capitalized on its surroundings, becoming a base for travelers who want to explore the area. Today, the town itself, is extremely tourist driven and its narrow streets are completely lined with tourist offices, hostels, hotels and mini-markets catering to the many incoming starry-eyed travelers.
That being said, will everyone realistically have an entire 4 days of their lives to dedicate to this spectacular destination? The chances are- probably not . Many people stop at San Pedro on their way to The Uyuni Salt Flat , or some other park or attraction, and that’s why I created this guide…
Just because you may not have as much time as you would like to tour San Pedro de Atacama, does not mean that you should avoid it all together! While it may not be the ideal situation, you can accomplish a lot in a weekend.
*Heads up: This post is a doozy- pretty long and informational, so if you don’t have plans to head to the Atacama Desert anytime soon, I’ll give you a free pass to skip through some of the logistical text, and enjoy the photos while scrolling down to the video at the bottom! 😀
So, first off, why did I only have one weekend to tour San Pedro ? Surely, I could have budgeted my time a little better.
Funny story. I did plan a longer stay in San Pedro, but, thanks to Chile’s low cost airline- SKY , my plans, well , they didn’t go as planned.
Despite many Chileans advising against my booking a flight with SKY, my budget mindset took over my better sense and it was done. We planned weeks ahead of time, booked tours, had everything setup and figured all would be fine. Then, less than 24 hours before our trip, we were informed that all flights through SKY, for the next 4 days , had been cancelled because of a strike.
How tour San Pedro de Atacama in a Weekend
In San Pedro, the times that tours are scheduled will allow you to plan more than one tour per day . Half-day tours last for about 4-5 hours and either leave super early in the morning, returning before lunch, or later in the afternoon returning before dinner. Most of the tour companies that we encountered had their tours set up this way, so you could even mix and match companies!
- First round of tours in San Pedro for the day: ~ 6-6:30AM – 2-3PM
- Second round of tours for the day: ~ 4PM-8PM
- Night Tours / Stargazing Tours: Beginning at 10PM or 12PM
We had two nights to sleep with a day and a half in between. Our schedule looked as follows:
Day 1 of tours in San Pedro de Atacama
- 3PM Arrive at Hostel
- 4-8PM Tour 1: Laguna Cejar with On Safari Atacama
- Dinner in San Pedro
Day 2 in San Pedro de Atacama
- 6:30AM-2:30PM Tour 2: Lagunas Altiplánicas with Whipala Expeditions
- 2:45-3:45 Lunch in San Pedro
- 4-8PM Tour 3: Valle de La Luna with Whipala Expeditions
- 8:30PM Dinner and rest in San Pedro
- 11PM-1AM Tour 4: Stargazing Tour with Space
I know what you’re thinking , 4 tours in less than 2 days is A LOT ! But, we didn’t really have a choice . If you’re short on time and want to see it all, sometimes you just have to pack it in. Plus, most tours have a nice lengthy bus ride where you can take a nap and recharge!
Tour #1: Laguna Cejar- On Safari Atacama
Day 1: 4-8PM After a long morning of travel and almost immediately after arriving at our hostel, we were picked up for our first tour! We had originally booked the Valle de La Luna tour with On Safari Atacama , but realizing we already had plans to see this on a different tour the following day, we changed our minds last minute to fit in some other attractions.
On this tour: Laguna Cejar, Ojos del Salar & Laguna Tebinquinche
Disclaimer: I received a discounted tour from On Safari Atacama for purposes of this review. As always though, all opinions expressed are my own.
Tour #2- Lagunas Altiplánicas- Whipala Excursions
Day 2: 6:30AM-2:30PM
On this tour: Lagunas Miscanti and Meñiques, Laguna Chaxa, Toconao
Our second tour of the trip picked us up at the crack of dawn. No that’s wrong, it was actually still dark out. Thankfully, we had a long relaxing ride up through the Andean mountains to the Lagunas Altiplánicas (highland lagoons), so I got to hit snooze .
After some time gawking, exploring and snapping way too many photos, we returned to the tour van to find breakfast waiting for us. We loaded up on hot coffee, fresh avocado, cheese, meat and bread and then head off once again to our next stop!
Tour #3- Valle de La Luna- Whipala Expeditions
Day 2: 4-8PM
On this Tour: Cavernas de Sal, Duna Mayor , Valle de la Muerte, Las Tres Marías, Mirador Piedra del Coyote
After a quick lunch break back at our hotel, we head off on yet another tour of San Pedro! Many people had told us that Valle de La Luna ( Atacama’s “moon valley” )was an absolute must see in San Pedro and it’s pretty easy to see why! The valley is named after its otherworldly, lunar landscapes and is known for its mysterious rock formations and large velvety san dunes . The absence of moisture in this area also makes it one of the most inhospitable places on Earth! AKA no wildlife to observe here!
Tour #4- Stargazing with Space
A long relaxing dinner and a catnap later, we forced our eyelids open at the sound of our alarm and head to our third tour of the day. It was a bit of a stretch, but we persevered and got our exhausted little buts on the next tour bus.
Thankfully, upon arrival to the designated stargazing spot, we were provided with blankets, a glass of wine and a warm cup of coffee, which definitely helped perk us up. Now I was ready to sit back, relax and gaze away!
Source: Space Star Tours If you can muster the energy after a long day of touring, I highly suggest you try to take an astronomical tour. The Atacama Desert is one of the top destinations in the world to view the night sky.
Outside of the small village, away from all light pollution in the expanse of Atacama darkness, the vision is truly incredible. Crisp, clean air and unadulterated, white, bright galaxies . We were able to see a number of astronomical formations, only visible in the Southern Hemisphere, several planets including Jupiter, Saturn and Mars and lose ourselves among the cloudy Milky Way. I’ve never, in my life, seen anything like it.
*I recommend booking stargazing tours ahead of time, as they do seem to sell out very quickly. The most popular and reputable company for stargazing in San Pedro is Space , but there are a few other options as well if Space is already booked.
Still want more activities and tours in San Pedro de Atacama? I have an Atacama Highlights post coming soon with dining suggestions, must dos, where to stay and more!
After a day and a half of packed-in Atacama tours, I have to admit I returned back to Santiago a bit zombie-fied. Still, I have zero regrets and stand my statement that I would do it all over again! Every last minute was worth it!
Okay! You finally made it to the end! Here’s the inside look you were waiting for! Choose the HD setting to view with better quality!
Have more time touring in Chile?? Check out my other posts about Santiago , Valparaíso and other destinations around Chile .

That looks INCREDIBLE!! And thank you very much for featuring my post this week!
Thanks for linking up Rebecca!
That’s so frustrating about Sky, but it looks like you made the most of your time in San Pedro. I love all of your pictures and that guac has my mouth watering!
Thanks Courtney! And yeah the avos here in Chile are pretty unreal!! I don’t think I’ll ever be tired of them!
I had no idea that this even existed in Chile! I personally think that the desert is so incredibly beautiful and would love to visit! Y’all really packed so much into 36 hours, and I’m glad that y’all were still able to do all of those amazing tours, despite the problem with your flights!
Thanks Ashley! I didn’t know about this place either, until I arrived in Chile! From Santiago the flights are so cheap, I couldn’t resist!
Awesome photos and an amazing trip, despite it being packed into 36 hours. Thanks for sharing it at Travel Tuesday, Lauren. I see that you have a travel blog hop on here as well so decided to link up.
Thanks for linking up Ahila! Would love to see you back next Wednesday! 😀
Wow! It looks incredible. I’m sure you were exhausted by the end but it must have been totally worth it. Good for you for making the best of a bad situation and just getting on with creating some of the most incredible travel memories! #WanderfulWednesdays
Thanks Clare! All you can do it make the most of the situation you’re presented with 😀
Your pictures are so beautiful! I’d love to visit a desert! The closest I’ve ever come to one was in the Canary Islands but I guess that’s more barren land than a real desert 😀
Ehh I’d count Lanzarote! It’s pretty desert-like hehe… but I still suggest getting over to a real desert, I’d love to see your perspective and photos! 😀
I am hypnotized!! Visiting the Atacama Desert is in my bucketlist as well. I didn’t know you could a lot time to explore it. But spending a week there would be a dream for me! Maybe include a couple of spas if there are any. Thank you for the recommendations!
I believe there are some spas and hotsprings in the area! If I had more time that definitely would have been high up on my list 😀
That landscape is absolutely awe inspiring. So much natural beauty I can’t handle it! I’m impressed at how you packed your time full, I’d have been ready for a good nap by the end of tour 2…! I’d love to visit one day, although I have to say my ultimate desert bucket list item has got to be the Nazca lines. Any chance you can go there and I can travel vicariously through you!?
I’d love to go there so you can travel through me! Hahah And trust me.. I was napping on the bus in between every single tour! … my friend has the pictures of me passed out, mouth open to prove it haha But seriously, Rachel get to a desert! They are some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen!
Wow, what an incredible area! I would love to visit and hike and explore. You sure managed to pack a LOT in!
It took some planning, but I’m really happy with what we got out of it! 😀
Lauren, that video!! It’s incredible, and worth of all of your hard work – I loved it!! Also, what a great and informative post 🙂 I really would love to head up there again because it really is such a beautiful place. Yay for Chile and it’s diverse landscapes.
Thanks Marcella! Wish it didn’t take me so long to make the videos! I was already thinking I may have to go back up there before I leave haha .. so much more to see and do!
This is a great post, really detailed. Bookmarking in case I ever make it to Chile!
Thanks Claire!
holy cow! you got so much done in such a short amount of time! I’m definitely like that too! if i have a short amount of time I’d rather be go, go, go for a few days and see it all and then just crash when I get home! I loved your video, so cute and well done! 🙂
Crashing when you get home and knowing that you made the most of your trip is the best feeling! Rest well deserved 😀 Thanks Carrie! 😀
Excellent post Lauren! Agree that there are tons of things to do in the area. I am reading stories about the Atacama Desert from two other bloggers and some of the activities they did are every different from your (but super scenic). If I ever go, I will try to stay as long as possible.
It’s a good idea to stay as there are so so many things to do and see! We chose the most convenient tours for our short stay, but there were still so many others calling my name! I feel like I could go back all over again and have a very different experience!
you got so much done in 36 hours, I am also one to take as many tours as I possibly can to make the most of the time! p.s. the button code is not working.
ooooops Diana.. Thanks for the heads up! 😀
ha-ha, you are certainly not scared of height! Lovely video!
They funny thing is … I’m terrified of heights! 😛
So jealous – this looks so amazing! It’s one of my dreams when I go back to Chile definitely 😀
You’re right. You need more than a weekend to see San Pedro de Atacama. The area is loaded with interesting geography and historical sites. The tourist centre of the town sold out (leased) to the tour operators and hospitality venues. I would recommend a free walking tour in the town for orientation if you have the time.
Glad you reposted this one, I must’ve missed it the first time around. I love how comprehensive and informative this post is! Some of these facts you mentioned, I had absolutely no idea about. Did you feel like you were still really able to enjoy your time to this region in the span of a weekend?
