Restaurants & Food in Dubai

In a city renowned for its dining choices,  you better believe there are plenty of food-related apps that you can choose from, from ratings to deliver to your accommodation and special offer coupons.  Here are the top ones we would recommend:

The Entertainer – A long-time Dubai favourite famous for their 2-4-1 restaurant deals, they’ve also branched into spas, attractions, fitness and everyday services – over 4,200 offers in the core Dubai product. The app is free, but you need to purchase products as add-ons. If you are in Dubai for several days you will most definitely get your money’s worth out of this investment.

Talabat – our favourite for ordering food with a hugely extensive choice of supplying restaurants, good user interface and prompt delivery.

Let’s DXB – a necessity for dining and nightlife. Not only do information and filters to find the perfect dining, drinking and brunch spots in Dubai but they have special partner offers. Plenty of useful filters to get you to the information you need.

Zomato – Dubai’s most trusted dining review platform. Does have ordering capabilities too.

Yeebly – Your online grocery store. From fresh food to pantry items, perfect if you want to self-cater or even get your baby items delivered to the door of your accommodation.

The Dubai Mall – trust us, once you see how big this place is you will see why you need a navigational app to get around! It is vast and easy to get lost.  This makes finding the top attractions straightforward.

Get Your Guide – our go-to for city attraction tickets. The app is super easy to search and instantly purchase tickets, normally issuing you with an online ticket and QR code so you skip the line at top attractions.

Big Bus Dubai – super useful, obviously if you plan on using a Big Bus sightseeing hop-on-hop-off, but also a great guide to the most popular tourist attractions around town if you were looking to plot your own route!

7 free apps every Dubai resident, tourist must download

Living in uae.

Find the best options to travel around the Emirate, report emergencies and attend events

Stock - Dubai Tourism

Dubai: Dubai was ranked the most popular destination in the world for the second time in a row, by the 2023 Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Awards . The safety, exciting outdoor activities, and tourist-friendly experiences make it extremely popular among global tourists. But did you know that Dubai is also the second best city in the world for expatriates, as per a 2022 survey by expat networking company, Internations.

Whether you are a visitor or resident, we have compiled a list of seven free smartphone applications that you must download.

Want to get a UAE SIM card and data connection? Read this .

1. UAE Pass

Before you download any other app, the first one you should register for is the UAE Pass, which is the national digital identity for citizens, residents and visitors in the UAE.

UAE residents can register on the app using their Emirates ID number and mobile number. But even if you are a tourist , you can easily register on the app in a few minutes by scanning your country’s National ID, if you are a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizen or resident, or by entering your passport details, if you are from outside the GCC.

Once you have created an account, you can get access to over 10,000 government services, as well as some of the services listed below, like booking a taxi through the S’hail app.

This app is a must-have if you are using public transportation in Dubai, as it helps commuters plan their journey using the Metro, Tram, taxi, bus or any of the marine transport options in the emirate.

The app is free to download, and is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery. It provides route details – including the duration of the trip, the arrival and departure schedule – and the estimated fare.

So, if you want to travel from your hotel to any of the popular tourist destinations in Dubai , you can simply enter your current location on the app and where you plan to go, and the app will provide you with all the public transport options that are available. You can also use the app to book a taxi.

Public transport users in Dubai need to pay for their trip using a ‘nol card ’, which you can buy at any Metro station in Dubai. However, if you want to add credit to your card, you do not need to pay by cash at a public transport counter.

The ‘nol Pay’ app enables you to top-up your card and also pay for public transportation. You can use the app to pay for trips on Dubai Metro, buses, Dubai Tram, marine transport or even the taxi. It is also helpful if you are renting a car  in Dubai and need to pay for public parking.

Here is how to top up the card on the app in a few minutes: 1. Open the app, and tap on 'Top-Up nol card'. Then, place the physical nol card on the back of your smartphone and do not remove it until the card is successfully scanned by the app. The app uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to identify the card and top it up. This feature is available for iPhone and Android users. However, for some older iPhone models, you may need to enable the ‘NFC tag’ reader in your settings. 2. Enter the top-up amount or select the amount from the options given. You can top up a nol card with a maximum amount of Dh150, when doing it online. 3. Next, tap 'Confirm'. 4. Tap the 'Pay' button. 5. Next, the app will transfer you to Dubai Pay, which is the official online payment channel for Dubai government services. 6. Enter your credit/debit card details. 7. Next, place the card on the back of the smartphone again to allow the app to top up the amount on the card. Make sure you do not remove it until the transfer of the amount is successfully completed. 8. Once that's done, you will view a summary of your payment.

Careem is another app that you can use to book taxis, which gives you a much wider range of options. Not only has the app tied up with RTA, allowing users to book RTA-licensed taxis, you can also book private taxis that may be available in your area, with the option of choosing luxury taxis, too.

Here is how to book a taxi on the Careem app: 1. Download the ‘Careem’ app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. 2. Create an account with the onscreen instructions and sign in. 3. On the home page, you will get the option to book a ‘car’ - which refers to private taxis – or a ‘Hala Taxi’, which refers to RTA-operated taxis. Make your selection. 4. Enter your drop-off and pickup location. 5. Next, tap the ‘Confirm’ button. 6. The app will give you all the options available to you of taxis nearby, and the estimated fare for the trip. The fare for the same trip will vary depending on timings (with peak time bookings costing more) and the type of taxi you choose. For example, taking a luxury taxi (if available at the time), you would pay a higher trip fare, compared to a standard taxi. 7. Make your selection and then tap the ‘Yalla’ button. 8. Next, you will receive a notification confirming the trip’s details and updates on your driver’s route.

5. Dubai Police

Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world for residents and tourists, with Dubai Police even setting up a special unit called ‘Tourism Police’ , which is tasked with handling issues and requests related to tourists.

If you are a tourist, you can contact the special wing of the Dubai Police Department through the Dubai Police app. They allow you to provide comments and suggestions, make inquiries or ask for help. As a resident, downloading this app can help you reach out to the police quickly and easily, too.

Emergency features on the Dubai Police app

If you are involved in an accident or are in any other emergency in Dubai, a single tap on the Dubai Police app can help you alert the police.

The app, detects severe accidents, such as car collisions, and also sends out an automated distress signal (SOS)

- Special SOS service for women and children

The app also has a special section within the SOS button for reporting abuse or crimes against women and children. In addition, women and children can send an SOS to Dubai Police through this option during an emergency.

- Sailing or going on a yacht? Use 'Sail Safely'

If you are going on a yacht or cruise, before you head out to the sea, you should activate the 'Sail Safely' service on the app, which can then help you stay safe throughout your journey. The service allows users to send distress requests directly to Dubai Police and warns users of potential hazards.

The app supports seven languages - Arabic, English, Russian, German, Chinese, French and Spanish.

  • 21 fines you can pay through the Dubai Police app

6. Visit Dubai

The ‘Visit Dubai’ app, developed by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), will allow you to create your itinerary and personalise your experience using smart filters, and even make bookings for Dubai’s top attractions and restaurants. This can be used by visitors to plan their trips as well as by residents, to make the most of a long weekend.

Follow the steps below to find out the top Dubai attractions you can visit: 1. Download the ‘Visit Dubai’ app, which is available on the Apple Appstore and the Google Playstore. 2. Next, create an account on the app or sign in with your Facebook, Twitter or iCloud account. To create an account, enter your full name, email address, and mobile number and create a password. 3. Once you have logged in, select your interests, and the app will recommend places you might like. For example, if you are interested in visiting cultural attractions, and do some shopping as well, choose them accordingly. 4. Tap, the ‘Next’ button. 5. The app will then recommend the available attractions and restaurants based on your selection.

7. Dubai Calendar

Right from the bus locations to upcoming bus stops, you can track everything on the app. So if you are planning to travel to the UAE on budget, and don’t want to spend much, then, use this app and travel around Abu Dhabi by bus.

2. XE Currency

Converting rates in your home currency while travelling can become a bit tedious. You either end up doing mental maths or don’t bother about it and hence don’t know where you are spending how much. So for your next trip, make sure to download the XE currency app. This app helps you keep a tab on how much you are spending, and in a few seconds, gives you accurate currency exchange rates, letting you know exactly how much you’re spending in your home currency. Their rates are reasonable comparatively the cars are comfortable, and most of their drivers understand English perfectly. You can either pay for the ride by cash or can even use your card.

The Link tower and home of One&Only One Za’abeel

The January 1 unveiling of One&Only inside the daring new One Za’abeel tower marks the brand’s first-ever urban resort, which might seem like a peculiar proposition in a city where One&Only already has two more traditional beach resorts—one at the base of the Palm Jumeirah and the other presiding over the man-made island’s outermost frond. And yet, there’s perhaps no better place in the world to test out an ambitious new concept than in a city known for its gravity-defying, luxury-defining hotels.

A suite at One&Only One Za’abeel

A few minutes south in the Business Bay district,  the Lana  (from roughly $925) is the first Middle Eastern member of the Dorchester Collection which debuted on February 1. It occupies a 30-story Foster + Partners–designed tower on the Dubai Canal. Sure, Dubai may have a bit of a reputation for assembling a pastiche of elements of global cities on the banks of the Arabian Gulf, but the Lana elegantly transports Europe to the UAE with a series of clever design choices. Here marble meets wood, bold floral patterns mingle with soft jewel-toned velvets, and every turn reveals a new mix of textures and textiles that blend together seamlessly.

In Spanish chef Martín Berasategui’s Basque restaurant Jara, a sexy pink bar swirls under orange light fixtures resembling embers hovering in the air. At the hidden-away cigar lounge Txakolina, metal curtains, purple velvets, and dark leathers come together to create a sexy speakeasy. And in the Dior Spa, neutral ecru spaces are enlivened with the label’s signature blue Toile de Jouy motif.

There are duplex suites with mirrored ceilings and tubs seemingly vast enough to fit the Burj (it certainly looks close enough to join you). The result is a surprisingly soft, alluringly sensual new addition to an area known more for its residential towers and business hotels.

A dining room at One&Only One Za’abeel

And given that neither of these properties sees itself as a business hotel, each is determined to carve out its own ways to establish itself as a leisure hub.

Meanwhile, the Lana’s Promenade is forging a new marina-side food destination that promises to be a hit with guests and locals alike. Guests looking to add sand to their stay can head to a private beach on the Palm Jumeirah (zip over in the Lana’s Rolls-Royce or sail across by boat along the canal).

But what makes each of these new additions so exciting is the serenity they bring to new pockets of Dubai—in the heart of this fever dream of a city, tranquility is the most important amenity.

Emirates is dealing with a 30,000 bag backlog as it grovels to customers about its handling of Dubai floods

  • Severe flooding caused by the heaviest rain in 75 years brought travel chaos to Dubai Airport last week.
  • The ongoing fallout has prompted Emirates boss Tim Clark to issue an apology to customers.
  • 30,000 bags still need to be returned to customers, he said.

Insider Today

Emirates, the Middle East's largest airline, is still trying to return 30,000 leftover bags to customers affected by the torrential rains and flooding that brought Dubai Airport to a standstill last week.

Over the weekend, the airline's president, Tim Clark, acknowledged that Emirates' response to the disruption had been "far from perfect" and apologized to customers.

"I would like to offer our most sincere apologies to every customer who has had their travel plans disrupted during this time," Clark wrote in an open letter posted online on Saturday.

Calling the previous week "one of the toughest for Emirates operationally," he said that the airline had been forced to cancel nearly 400 flights and delay many more after storms brought the region's highest rainfall in 75 years.

"Flooded roads impeded the ability of our customers, pilots, cabin crew, and airport employees to reach the airport, and also the movement of essential supplies like meals and other flight amenities," Clark wrote.

In total, 1,478 flights had been canceled at the world's second busiest airport by Friday morning, according to Reuters.

While planes remained stuck on flooded taxiways, submerged roads surrounding the airport left some passengers stranded in the airport.

To accommodate disrupted passengers, Emirates said it had secured 12,000 hotel rooms and issued 250,000 meal vouchers.

Despite the chaos and a government warning telling people to stay at home, Emirates flight attendants in Dubai were also told to report for duty.

However, Clark acknowledged that many passengers had been frustrated by the congestion, lack of information, and confusion at terminals.

In an effort to handle the ongoing fallout, he said that a task force had been created to sort and return 30,000 pieces of left-over luggage to its owners.

The airline officially resumed regular flight operations at Dubai Airport on Saturday, but warned it would still take several days to clear the backlog.

Non-UAE-based carriers were still facing restrictions over the weekend. Foreign airlines with more than two flights in 24 hours were issued with a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) instructing them to reduce operations by 50%, Indian news agency PTI reported.

According to FlightRadar 24's data , all arrivals and departures were largely running to schedule again on Monday morning.

The oil-rich United Arab Emirates has become one of the most attractive economic hubs in the Gulf region.

Its efforts to diversify its economy away from oil, centered on Dubai as a tourism hot spot, have helped the country position itself as a major player on the world stage. In a sign of its growing popularity, the number of passengers traveling to Dubai Airport increased by 31.7% in the last year.
