Travel Requirements for Travellers Entering Singapore and Vietnam

[Outdated as at 2 October 2023]

Travel Requirements for Travellers Entering Singapore or Vietnam Singaporeans travelling or living in Vietnam should take the necessary precautions and exercise personal responsibility at all times. Entry and Exit Singaporeans can visit Vietnam for up to 30 days without a visa. However, Vietnam has special requirements for persons who intend to reside for extended periods, or who plan to work, study, or engage in non-tourist activities. As visa requirements often change at short notice, we advise you to contact your travel agency, or the Embassy of Vietnam in Singapore for up-to-date information. Onward travel from Vietnam to a different country may require you to hold a valid visa.  We advise Singaporeans to obtain a visa for onward travel, if needed, before the start of their journey, rather than apply for it en-route to your destination. Visas can be difficult to obtain at the border of the countries that they intend to visit after Vietnam. COVID-19 Travel Requirements for Singapore Travellers to Vietnam Vietnam has temporarily suspended entry of all foreigners and overseas Vietnamese via commercial flights into Vietnam.  Vietnam may grant entry visas to foreigners with diplomatic and official passports; and certain investors, business managers, experts and high-skilled workers, on a case-by-case basis. Singaporeans who are allowed to enter Vietnam will have to (i) present a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test results within three to seven days prior to arrival in Vietnam; (ii) ensure that one has the appropriate health insurance coverage or the commitment of investing agencies/organisations to pay the treatment fee should one be infected with COVID-19; (iii) serve a 14-day quarantine at centralised facilities; (iv) undergo at least two mandatory COVID-19 swab tests; and (v) submit an online health declaration at https://tokhaiyte.vn/ prior to arrival and provide the necessary assurances that the individual(s) will comply with all local health and immigration regulations. For the latest information on travel restrictions/advisories imposed by Vietnam due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, please visit these websites: Vietnam Ministry of Health Vietnam Embassy in Singapore   Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singaporeans are advised to defer all travel abroad, except to Brunei Darussalam and New Zealand. From 1 September 2020 onwards, all Singaporeans, PRs, Long Term Pass holders and short term visitors entering Singapore from Vietnam will be issued a 7-day Stay-Home Notice. Please check the Singapore Ministry of Health website for the latest information.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a ministry of the Government of Singapore responsible for conducting and managing diplomatic relations between Singapore and other countries and regions.

Do Singaporeans need visa to visit Hanoi, Vietnam for 11 days in December 2023? I plan to visit Vietnam next week.

Do I need to apply for any tourist e-visa? I understand Singaporeans do not require visa to enter Vietnam in maximum 30 days but will need to apply for visa if they intend to stay for more than one month. Please advise.

Vietnam eVisa Sample

As of now, Vietnam eVisa is the only visa option available for tourists and visitors. All nationalities are eligible to apply for Vietnam eVisa.

Validity of Vietnam eVisa

The validity of Vietnam eVisa is maximum 90 days from the day of issue. You must enter and exit Vietnam within the validity of the E-Visa.

When to apply for eVisa

You can apply for your Vietnam eVisa as early as you like. The eVisa processing takes 3 working days, so you must apply at least 3 working days prior to your trip. In certain instances, it can take longer. I highly recommend applying at least two weeks prior to your trip.

How long can you stay in Vietnam on eVisa

With an E-Visa, you can stay up to 90 days or until the expiry of your eVisa, whichever is shorter. The immigration officer will write the date by which you must exit the country on the entry stamp in your passport. Usually, this exit date on your passport will match the expiration date of your eVisa.

You can apply for the eVisa on the official Vietnam E-Visa Portal . You would need a scan of your passport data/ID page, a digital photo and a credit/debit card.

ENTRY AND EXIT PROCEDURE AT THE AIRPORT

Vietnam entry exit stamps

Entering Vietnam by air

After you get off your flight, walk towards immigration/passport control. If you are a visa-exempt national, present your passport and boarding pass. If you hold an eVisa, present your passport, boarding pass and a print or soft copy of your Vietnam eVisa to the immigration officer.

The immigration officer may ask a few questions such as how long you plan to stay, what you would like to do in Vietnam, etc.

The immigration office may also ask to see your return ticket. If you are flying on a one-way ticket, make sure to carry proof of an onward flight ticket to avoid any trouble at immigration.

Leaving Vietnam by air

Vietnam employs manned passport control. You will go through passport control on your exit. Present your passport and boarding pass. The immigration will not ask any questions unless you have overstayed your visa.

Vietnam has streamlined its visa process in recent years. About 25 nationalities from Southeast Asia and Europe do not require a visa to enter Vietnam. Nationals of all countries and territories are eligible to apply for eVisa.

Vietnam Visa on Arrival (VOA) is still suspended. There is no news on when VOA will be available again.
