If you are visiting Anchorage, this place is a must visit. The woman that work there are very friendly and helpful and will assist you in planning your visit to the town. I will admit, they did crush my dreams of snowmobiling on a glacier and seeing the Northern Lights because it was too late in the season. But hey, at least I knew. They provide you with awesome recommendations to get you going whether it be attractions, places to eat or things to do. The log cabin in front is more of a welcome center and has some history and a greeter. The larger building in the back is more of where the magic happens. That is where you will find all the attraction brochures and the information of what is operating during that time of year. Both buildings are very clean and organized and they are strategically located by quite a few souvenir shops. There is metered street parking on the street in front of and adjacent to the Center. It was very helpful and got me a good itinerary put together. Like I said, this is a must stop when you are planning things to do during your vacation in anchorage.
Gayle and I stopped in looking for Lunch recommendations. The person who greeted us was very welcoming and informative. She offered a variety of options, plus some walking recommendations, and a plug for the 1-hour Trolley tour. She also provided a map, with easy guidance and advice on restaurant layouts and wait times. We took her up on one Lunch option at 49th State Brewery and the Trolley Tour after that. Both were solid recommendations. We'd gladly come back at another time looking for more.
It was our first time in Alaska & this visitor center was very helpful. We stopped in a few times & once just to stay warm before heading out again. Only reason why I give a 4 instead of 5 stars is because the first lady who helped seem a bit frustrated when I was asking questions. Yes, I may have asked the same questions twice but I was alone with my 2 boys so getting clear directions to avoid getting lost was crucial to me.
Great place if you're a clueless tourist looking to be pointed in the direction of downtown you need to be in! If you're a jaded local, the same applies. It's a good place to know "what's goin' on?" in downtown Anchorage. There are lots of random things in the summer (concerts, shows, festivals, etc), and coming here is more fun than endless scrolling the "events" webpage.
Great place for information. Maps, advice, trinkets, art. Nice people. No bathrooms.
The Visitors Center was a great start for us to figure out some fun activities. We told them what we had planned, and they helped us fill in everything else. They have great organization there, separating out the brochures and maps by location and by interests. The staff, especially Joan, greeted us and made us feel like long lost friends! They were incredibly helpful and walked us through the walls of brochures and information. I recommend travelers stopping here if you have any questions or want to know some of the more local things to do when in Anchorage.
Brochures received from the Center
Excellent little spot full of information. Friendly staff. During the downtown Halloween extravaganza for kids to trick or treat, they had a haunted house in the cabin and the visitor center behind was open for business and giving away candy. So you know, there are two buildings with information. There is the rustic log cabin and the more modern building behind it. Just follow the yellow moose hood road from one to the next. Make sure to read up on the spirit bridge!

This is the perfect place to come to figure out what tours to do and works best with your schedule and interests. Centrally located in the downtown Anchorage area, it's also a nice place for a photo op. After speaking with one of the friendly employees, I was able to pick out which tour company, and tour, to book for the weekend. Highly recommend for anyone who has yet to secure tours prior to coming to anchorage.
An excellent and helpful little visitor's center with lots of maps and guidance for the newly arrived tourist. They have a little gift shop section that sells great lip balm made in Alaska. Plus they have post cards you can write out and they'll mail for you. No complaints from me. They do have limited hours though so if you're looking for information after 7 pm, then you'll need to wait until the next day!
Stopped in for a map and walked out making a friend with Liz. She was an incredible bank of knowledge and was helpful in making our Alaska venture the best that it could be. Thanks Liz! And thank you Visitor Center for providing such great information.

March 2024 Anchorage Tourism Recap
The first quarter of 2024 ended strong, with off-season visitation meeting or exceeding historical averages. The non-summer months continue to show potential for further growth for Anchorage.
Monthly Volume and Revenue
Passenger counts at the Anchorage airport for March were up 5% from the same time in 2023. More than 176,000 people passed through security at the airport, including Anchorage residents, other Alaskans, and Outside travelers.
Visitor Information Center visits at the log cabin downtown and at the airport information centers increased in Q1 by 33% compared to the same period in 2023. Both Rondy and the Iditarod weekends had increases in visitation compared to same weekends the year prior.
Hotel demand in March was down slightly, less than 1%, compared to 2023. Through the first three months of the year, hotel demand remains better overall than 2023. Average daily rate rose in March slightly to $157 per night. Despite the dip in demand, hotel revenue increased year over year.
Hotel revenue is an early indicator for quarterly municipal hotel bed taxes. Anchorage hotel taxes are paid by visitors. Split three ways, the hotel taxes go to the general fund, cover operations, maintenance, and improvements at the Anchorage Convention Centers, and also are reinvested in tourism marketing and promotions.
Marketing and Promotions
Visit Anchorage doubled ad impressions in Q1 year over year. The organization saw better performance from some longstanding digital campaigns, but also added some new formats into the mix, and ramped up several campaigns in March and into April as well.
Website traffic on Anchorage.net was up in March compared to the same period last year. While signature winter events like Fur Rondy and Iditarod fuel a spike at the beginning of the month, much of the increase came later in March from the paid digital campaigns. Organic sessions come as visitors plan upcoming trips, however Visit Anchorage also doubled ad impressions in Q1 year over year to attract the next wave of travelers.
Visitor Research
Visit Anchorage also shared findings from a research project conducted over the winter.
The Anchorage Air Visitor Profile & Economic Impact Study was fielded in February and March via Wi-Fi at the Anchorage airport.
Nonresidents reported spending an average of $1,529 per party during their time in Anchorage this winter. On average, travelers from outside Alaska average 3.4 nights in Anchorage during their visit to Alaska. Visiting breweries/distilleries, northern lights viewing, wildlife viewing and glacier visits topped the list of most popular Anchorage activities for travelers from Outside of Alaska.
Detailed findings will help inform future advertising, imagery, messaging, and product development, and give Anchorage the best picture of the most likely travelers to pursue. The survey will also be in the field for summer 2024, with adjustments made to reflect the season and improve user experience.

Great resource. Volunteers man this attraction, which is housed in a log cabin with a sod roof, reminiscent of the first days of Anchorage, in 1915 or so.
