Vitalic is the stage name of Pascal Arbez, a French EDM artist born in 1976. He has released three studio albums since his debut in 1996 and is responsible for countless remixes of legendary artists from all over the world.
A lot of people seem to think that EDM in general is a flash in the pan fad that’ll be gone within a couple of years at the very most. Needless to say, a lot of people are very wrong indeed. Vitalic is living proof of this, around twenty years DJ-ing and producing and he shows no sign of slowing down or branching out into other, “Worthier” genres of music.
He’s also living proof that not every EDM musician can string together some bleeps and bloops and immediately become successful. Arbez made his debut in 1996 but he didn’t make a national name for himself until 2001 when a friend of his, fellow producer Michel Amato (AKA The Hacker), suggested that he send some new tracks to German label International DeeJay Gigolo Records.
The label took the tracks and released them as the “Poney E.P”, which was a huge success in Europe, containing the summer smash hit “La Rock 01”. With a name made for himself and a continent wide audience, Vitalic followed up four years later with his debut album “OK Cowboy” which made his name world-wide.
After official remixes commissioned from artists like Bjork, Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Moby and his hero, Jean Michel Jarre, Vitalic is truly at the top of his game. Touring the world like his contemporaries, but unlike them, he’s got a full band backing his music, making it sound as good as it possibly can be. He’s an artist in the true sense of the word, and at this point in time, he’s unmissable.
Live reviews
Great musical experience with a lot of pump and atmosphere... while it lasted.
I had the pleasure of seeing Vitalic in his own environment at a club/cave rave in Avignon in 2009. That experience set the bar when I went to see him again. Maybe the bar was too high or old Pascal has gotten older, just like myself.
Either way, the feeling of the concert was more intense and focused than it was almost a decade ago. It was a really entertaining artist playing a short but concentrated burst of energy, which seemed to amuse the crowd, myself included. However, there was some confusion when the music stopped after about 90 minutes and the main artist was gone without a word. I felt somewhat disappointed that it didn't go on for longer, although I was very satisfied with the quality of the concert itself. Also, a minimum of mingling among fans would have made the moodswing of the audience more tolerable.
On the flipside, if I were to decide whether to see him in France or outside, I am almost certain that he is best at home court. In the end the more relaxed laws of clubbing and less constrained environment will probably let the concert play on long enough to avoid leaving the audience a feeling of being "just a gig", and more like being on a party with Vitalic, Pascal or what you wanna call him. Cause in the end, you want a night to remember and that just ain't possible to accomplish in 90 minutes.
Would I see him again? Yes I would. But only in France.

Although Frenchman Pascal Arbez has been making music since the mid-1990s, it was until his debut album as Vitalic in 2005 that the world started to take notice. OK Cowboy was a stunning take on techno and dance music, dragging rave culture into the 21st century though massive drops, euphoric melodies and beats that would pummel your brain into submission. 2009’s Flashmob album was even better, mixing as it did the brutal beats and synth noise with some more restrained Italo House, and even some IDM just to keep the thinkers happy. Live, though, is where it’s always likely to be at for Arbez and Vitalic. A track like ‘Next I’m Ready’ is dropped in early on as a gentle introduction to the Vitalic sound, almost restrained disco before the distortion and synths kick in and we get ‘Poney Part 1’ and ‘Terminateur Benelux’ to fry our circuits, ‘Rave Kids Go’ takes it to another level with incredible hardcore beats before an oddball track like ‘Woo’ mixes things up in order to ensure that the show isn’t a one-note performance. ‘Poison Lips’ ends things on pulsating disco, and you’ll leave with a sense of joy that might not leave for days on end. That’s the power of a great techno night: a communal happiness soundtracked by a DJ who knows exactly how to make us happy.
It seemed like forever before he arrived, but when he did the warm up dj had the room hopping. Vitalic gradually took over the decks the set and erupted the place thumping out "Stamina" "la Rock" to and packed house. He didn't stay that long, but anyone who invested in the ticket got more than their money's worth! Even got to shake his hand, Merci Bien Pascal, Féte Extraordinaire!.
Amazing gig! Vitalic played a good mix of new and old songs. The venue (oval space) was super nice and the crowd was jumping from the start til the end. 1h30 concert definitely felt too short!
Probably the best DJ set i've been to in my life, absolutely thrilling! Shame he didn't have his own visuals though :(
The venue was not too crowded but could use some refurbishment.
Super cool rave. Robert Parker was a very good warm up. When Vitalic appeared, all came close to stage and rave started. Vitalic can keep people dancing for hours and hours.

About the artist
It’s now been 20 years since Vitalic (real name Pascal Arbez-Nicolas) took the initiative to redefine techno in line with his own French sensibilities, combining energy and melody to create his own distinctive style. Many of his tracks, like "Poney", "La Rock 01", "My Friend Dario", "Poison Lips" and "Stamina" have become club classics, blurring the lines between techno, disco, rock, and pop, and inspiring and stirring up a scene which, since the end of the “French Touch”, had been struggling to find anything fresher than filtered disco house.
