Blues Traveler

In 1987 the four original members of Blues Traveler – John Popper, Chandler Kinchla, Brendan Hill, and the late Bobby Sheehan – gathered in their drummer’s parent’s basement in Princeton, NJ to jam. From these high school sessions emerged a band that would go on to release 14 studio albums and counting, four of which have gone gold, three platinum, and one six-times platinum- selling more than 10 million combined units worldwide. Over an illustrious career Blues Traveler has played over 2,000 live shows in front of more than 30 million people, and, in “Run-Around,” had the longest-charting radio single in Billboard history, which earned them a Grammy® for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Their movie credits include Blues Brothers 2000 , Kingpin , Wildflowers and others. A television favorite, they have been featured on Saturday Night Live , Austin City Limits , VH1’s Behind the Music and they have the record for the most appearances of any artist on The Late Show with David Letterman. Gin Blossoms

Gin Blossoms are an American alternative rock band from Tempe, Arizona. They formed in the late 80s and achieved mainstream success in the early 1990s with their hit singles “Hey Jealousy”, “Found Out About You”, and “Til I Hear It From You”. The band has released 6 studio albums, selling over 10 million records worldwide.

Gin Blossoms’ sound is a blend of pop, melodic rock, folk, and country. Their songs are often characterized by their catchy melodies and bittersweet lyrics. The band has been praised by critics for their songwriting and their live performances.

Gin Blossoms took a hiatus in 1997, but reunited in 2001. The band has continued to tour and record, and released their latest album, No Chocolate Cake, in 2010.

Gin Blossoms are one of the most popular and respected alternative rock bands of the 1990s. They continue to be a popular live act, and their music continues to be enjoyed by fans around the world.

Everclear, a prominent alternative rock band from the ’90s, celebrated their 30th Anniversary in 2022, with founder, vocalist, and guitarist Art Alexakis showing no intention of slowing down. Formed in 1992, Everclear boasts an illustrious career, including 11 studio albums, with four achieving Gold or Platinum certifications, and over 6 million records sold. Their music has yielded 12 Top 40 Hit Singles across Mainstream Rock, Alternative, and Adult Top 40 radio, including chart-toppers like “Santa Monica,” “Father of Mine,” and “Wonderful.” Their journey also includes a 1998 Grammy nomination, numerous videos, thousands of shows, and a dedicated fan base.

Art Alexakis’s path to success began after the disbandment of Colorfinger in 1992 when he faced personal and creative challenges. This period gave rise to Everclear’s early work, including the Nervous & Weird EP (1993) and the World of Noise LP, released on Tim/Kerr Records. Their 1995 major-label debut, “Sparkle and Fade,” featuring the iconic hit “Santa Monica,” catapulted Everclear to stardom.

In 2019, Art Alexakis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and has since been donating a portion of his performance ticket sales to charities like Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and the National MS Society.

In 2022, Everclear reissued “World Of Noise” for their 30th Anniversary, accompanied by a retrospective video and a North American Tour. A live album, “Live at The Whisky a Go Go,” is set for release in September 2023, featuring hits and new studio tracks. In addition to his extensive Everclear performances, Alexakis created the annual Summerland Tour and released his solo album, “Sun Songs,” in 2019. Three decades later, Everclear’s enduring legacy and live appeal persist.

Lit, a standout band from the late ’90s post-grunge era, holds a prominent place in the SoCal power punk scene with electrifying hits like “My Own Worst Enemy,” “Miserable,” “Zip-Lock,” and “Lipstick & Bruises.” With 6 global studio albums in their repertoire, including the RIAA Certified Platinum “A Place in the Sun,” the band is actively working on new material.

Three original and core members, A. Jay (lead vocals), Jeremy Popoff (lead guitar), and Kevin Baldes (bass), continue to drive Lit’s enduring legacy. Their mega-hit, “My Own Worst Enemy,” remains an iconic rock anthem and earned them a Billboard Music Award for Modern Rock Song of the Year. The unforgettable “Miserable” video featuring Pamela Anderson was a top 10 hit of 2000. In 2017, Lit soared back onto the charts with “Fast,” hitting #1 on CMT’s 12-Pack from their “These Are the Days” album.

Color Me Badd

Color Me Badd is an American contemporary R&B group that was formed in 1985 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma by Mark Calderon (born September 27, 1970), Bryan Abrams (born November 16, 1969), second tenor second tenor Sam Watters (born July 23, 1970) and baritone Kevin Thornton (born June 17, 1969). Color Me Badd broke up in 1998 before reuniting in 2010, with various lineups since.

Best known for their singles “I Wanna Sex You Up”, “I Adore Mi Amor” and “All 4 Love”, the group has sold over 12 million records worldwide, had two number 1 hit singles, nine Top 40 hits and a triple-platinum album. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards, won two Soul Train Music Awards and one American Music Award, and were nominated for five others. Their songs have been featured in movies and on television programs including New Jack City, Mo’ Money, No Strings Attached and Glee. They made a cameo appearance as themselves on a 1992 episode of Beverly Hills, 90210.

After 1998, the group reformed in 2010 and has been touring on several notable tours such as “I Love The 90’s Tour”, and supporting other hit acts like Salt N Pepa, Vanilla Ice, Bell Biv Devoe, and many more.

A founding member, Mark Calderon, the only original member now leading the group out on tour says “I’ve never been more excited to get out on the road and share the highest energy show in Color Me Badd history. Grammy® award-winning singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb started her career with the platinum-selling Number 1 hit song “Stay (I Missed You)” from the film Reality Bites . A trailblazing independent artist, Lisa was the first pop musician to have a Number 1 single while not signed to a recording contract. Lisa continues to craft irresistible pop songs for the 21st century, while designing eyewear, writing children’s books, and supporting non-profit causes. Lisa’s recent television appearances include John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight , Orange Is the New Black , About a Boy , Hot Tub Time Machine 2 , King of the Nerds , AP Bio , as well as Sprout’s Sunny Side Up Show .

A recent personal honor for Lisa was being asked by editor, Will Shortz, to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of The New York Times crossword by creating an original puzzle with pro, Doug Peterson. Other recent highlights and appearances include contributing a cover version of “All the Young Dudes” for Howard Stern’s David Bowie Special on Sirius XM, leading a kids’ songwriting workshop in Sydney, Australia with AMP, a two-week residency at the legendary Carlyle Hotel in New York and being honored at the 2019 SHE ROCKS AWARDS at NAMM.

Fastball is an American rock band from Austin, Texas. They are known for their melodic, Beatles-inspired pop with the alternative aesthetic of late-’90s mainstream rock. The band was formed in 1994 by guitarist/vocalist Miles Zuniga, bassist/vocalist Tony Scalzo, and drummer Joey Shuffield.

Their debut album, Make Your Mama Proud, was released in 1996 and featured the hit singles “The Way” and “Fire Escape”. The album went platinum and was nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Their second album, All the Pain Money Can Buy, was released in 1998 and was even more successful, selling over 2 million copies and spawning the hit singles “Out of My Head” and “You’re an Ocean”.

The band has released six studio albums, all of which have been well-received by critics. They have also toured extensively, both in the United States and internationally.

Fastball is still active today and continues to release new music. Their latest album, The Deep End, was released in 2022.

C+C Music Factory

“Everybody Dance Now!” echoes as a timeless anthem, with over 8 million units sold, etching its place as a global sensation. Freedom Williams, co-founder of the multi-platinum group C+C Music Factory, has crisscrossed the globe, never failing to enthrall audiences. Born in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and raised in Queens, he hails from a breeding ground of legendary talent.

Queens, New York, is renowned for birthing rap icons like RUN-DMC, Jam Master Jay, and L.L. Cool J. Freedom wasn’t just a spectator; he was a pioneer. Jesus Jones

Jesus Jones are back – but to be strictly accurate, they never actually went away. Jesus Jones first came together back in 1988, and their distinctive brand of sample-heavy pop found an instant, and receptive audience. Throughout the early 90’s the band enjoyed phenomenal success, particularly in America, where their single “Right Here Right Now” rose to number one, and their second album “Doubt” sold over a million copies. They played the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, supported INXS at Wembley Stadium, and performed to a quarter of a million people in Brazil.

Digital Underground

Digital Underground is a Grammy nominated multi-platinum American hip hop group. This Legendary act is best known for their hit’s The Humpty Dance, Same Song, Freaks Of The Industry, Kiss U back, Doowutchyalike, and I Get Around with 2Pac. The group is noted for introducing Tupac Shakur to the music/entertainment industry in 1991. Digital Underground is widely recognized for it’s unique contributions to hip hop music, as well as possessing one of the best live performances the genre has to offer.

Money B, a co-founder of the group is noted as having one of the most recognizable voices in hip-hop. He has collaborated and helped sell hundreds of millions of records with the likes of Tupac, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Raw Fusion, Ne-Yo, Ice Cube, George Clinton, The Luniz, Public Enemy, and more! Chris Clarke aka Young Hump is the protégé of Shock G and the newest member of Digital Underground. In the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez On Me” Money B plays himself and Chris Clarke plays the role of Shock G/Humpty Hump. Collectively they represent Digital Underground in the film. Musically they have formed to become the official touring and recording representation of Digital Underground.

Sophie B. Hawkins

Downtown Julie Brown MTV VJ

Downtown Julie Brown is an English-born actress, television personality, SiriusXM DJ and former MTV VJ. She was the host of Club MTV from 1987 to 1992 and also appeared on other shows and specials on MTV. She became one of the most beloved stars of that era of MTV and was known for her catchphrase, “Wubba, wubba, wubba.”

Matt Pinfield MTV VJ

A broadcast legend, Matt Pinfield has spent four decades in the mainstream media, hosting multiple MTV and VH1 television shows including the influential 120 Minutes. A respected music historian, he’s done commentary and narration for over 100 documentaries with networks like CNN, FOX, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, USA, NAT GEO and VICE. In 2022, received the first ever MUSEEXPO International Rock Icon Award and the Hollywood Walk Of Fame Award simultaneously for his contributions to music, broadcasting and the arts. Travel | norwegian cruise line’s latest ship caters to gen-x crowd.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship Norwegian Viva has some serious Gen-X appeal.

Cruise lines have juggled the tastes of mixed generations on board for decades, but contemporary lines like NCL cater to the latest generation making vacation decisions, and a good chunk of that clientele call themselves children of the 80s.

So while the structure of Norwegian Viva, a sister ship to Norwegian Prima, and the second of six planned vessels that look to redefine NCL’s fleet, is somewhat generation-agnostic, the entertainment programming is definitely geared toward those who find themselves in their 40s and 50s.

That includes the marquee stage show “Beetlejuice,” a visually intense musical version of the Broadway hit, although condensed down to 90 minutes.

The stage show is based on the 1988 movie Beetlejuice directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton. As the title character, the ship’s “ghost with the most” eats up the stage sort of akin to Genie in Disney’s “Aladdin,” except with F-bombs.

For the sailing, the character honed his comedic crowd interaction to poke fun at NCL, and even the ship’s godfather Luis Fonsi, the Puerto Rican singer behind the hit “Despacito,” noting he didn’t even stay on board with the sailing after the ship’s christening ceremony.

The show’s stage production includes some masterful, creepy puppetry including a massive sand snake just like in the movie. The story, though, is its own tale departing from the source material for an entertaining show.

The other major theater production on board also hearkens back to the ’80s with a version of the game show “Press Your Luck,” which originally ran from 1983-1986 hosted by Peter Tomarken, and saw a revival in 2019 hosted by Elizabeth Banks.

Just like the game show, the cruise line’s version lets contestants answer questions to build up a bank of turns with which they can press the button to stop a random board hopefully on cash or prizes, but also trying to avoid the show’s signature antagonist, the “whammy,” an animated red character that comes on screen suffering some sort of silly calamity in cartoon form, but also taking all of the contestant’s accumulated cash.

The show is known for contestants chanting, “no whammies,” between turns.

Other Gen-X touches can be felt during the sailing, such as the classical strings versions of early ’90s hits like R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion” playing in the background like a Muzak station while dining in the main dining room Hudson’s, and the lineup of classic arcade games of Space Invaders, Donkey Kong and the Galaga-Pac-Man combo found for free play within the sports bar concept The Local.

For those who like their gaming a little more modern, but still enticing to Gen-X, the ship has its own version of the Galaxy Pavilion, which is filled with virtual reality games and even an escape room.

The ship is rife with options for those seeking an adrenaline fix as well.

At the top of that list is the three-deck go-kart track. Viva’s version is the fifth for the fleet, but only Prima and Viva have the triple-decker version.

The course of electric vehicles with piped-in engine revving sounds that can go up to 27 mph during group races, but also allows for spectators to aim and fire guns that let riders speed up their carts with a boost of earned energy. It’s a $15 extra cost, although cruisers can buy an unlimited pass for $199.

The ship also features two twisting dry slides that drop riders 10 decks in seconds while also leaving room for a small, but satisfying tube ride called the Tidal Wave that quickly shuttles riders into a small half pipe and down a quick drop that allows for quick turnaround and invites repeat rides.

The top deck also has a Vegas-style covered mini-golf course amid other gaming stations including dart board rooms.

For those who eschew adventure in favor of food, beverage and music, the ship is not lacking.

In addition to gratis dining at The Commodore Room, Hudson’s, The Local and normal ship buffet Surfside Cafe, the ship like Prima once again offers the food hall concept Indulge Food Hall, with little kiosks offering up Italian, Latin, Indian, barbecue and other cuisine that diners can order using touchpad screens. The food comes quick to both indoor and outdoor seating, and you don’t have to keep getting up to refill. Just tap, swipe and consume.

It has eight specialty restaurants including global cuisine offering Food Republic, Cagney’s Steakhouse, Hasuki Japanese grill, French offering Le Bistro, Mexican option Los Lobos with its curious entryway of sculpted animals, Nama Sushi & Sashimi, seafood offering Palomar and fine Italian dining Onda by Scarpetta.

The lineup of bars includes Syd Norman’s Pour House, which is like a hybrid of CBGB’s and a TGIF, and has cover band shows like “Rumours” featuring playing Fleetwood Mac hits.

For the environmentally conscious, NCL has brought back the Metropolitan bar, which stacks its cocktail menu with sustainable alcohols and even Prosecco.

That’s also home to the 52-foot-long digital interactive mural called ” Every Wind has a Silver Lining by British artist Dominic Harris with thousands of silvery-blue butterflies that flutter into life as passengers walk by.

Norwegian Viva made its debut this past summer and is amid a short set of sailings from Miami before it migrates to San Juan, Puerto Rico, from which it will be sailing through March on an intense set of Caribbean itineraries, each one of which will feature a new island port of call for each day of the sailing.

OKC Thunder Have Little Trouble, Cruise Past Bucks at Home

In its third straight win as the regular season comes to a close, the Oklahoma City Thunder demolished a Greek Freak-less Milwaukee Bucks.

Lightning didn't strike the Oklahoma City Thunder twice.

After it fell to the Milwuakee Bucks on March 24 in a below 100 point effort, the Thunder gained some revenge tonight, defeating the Eastern Conference's No. 2 seed 125-107.

Oklahoma City's "big three" was the main catalyst for the victory, each having a strong individual performance. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one block. Although the Bucks defense handled the MVP candidate well — holding him to 7-of-21 shooting and 0-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line — but it was still good enough to get a win.

Chet Holmgren had the best overall performance of the night, 22 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and three blocks on 9-of-13. Without Giannis Antetokounmpo it allowed the rookie to flourish, going up against Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis considerably well.

Jalen Williams also had a solid outing, recording 17 points, two rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block on 7-of-12 shooting. Aaron Wiggins had a highly efficient 19 points off the bench, while Gordon Hayward secured the starting spot. Although he only scored six points, he made a solid impact at the shooting guard spot.

It was quite the offensive first quarter for both sides, but Oklahoma City's 41 points edged out Milwuakee's 34. Gilgeous-Alexander and Williams scored 14 and 11 points respectively, immediately making a high impact in an important game.

The Thunder only built on its lead in the second quarter. After letting the Bucks get back into the game a little bit at the start, the Oklahoma City went on a 16-6 lead to close out the final six minutes of the half. Much of the damage was done by Aaron Wiggins, who scored nine out of the 16 points.

Milwaukee started off the second half much stronger than it did in the third, but the Thunder still kept up a similar pace it had throughout the contest. Holmgren really started to get it going with seven points in a matter of three minutes. The Bucks did come out of it as the highest-scoring offense by the end, but it was just by three points.

The Milwaukee offense crumbled even further in the fourth quarter, allowing Oklahoma City to blow it out of the water with ease, bringing its record up to 56-25.

The Thunder will follow up by playing the Dallas Mavericks (50-30) on Sunday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m. CT in its final game of the regular season.

8 passengers, including Garden City couple, rejoin cruise ship after being left

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - The eight guests who were left on an African island nation by their cruise ship are back on the ship on Tuesday.

In a statement, Norwegian Cruise Line said the eight were set to rejoin the ship in Dakar, Senegal.

The group was originally supposed to reboard on Monday in Banjul, Gambia, but the ship could not dock safely due to the weather.

Norwegian Cruise Line said their protocol means guests are typically responsible for any travel costs to rejoin the ship at the next port of call, but Norwegian will reimburse the group because of the weather issues.

The guests, which include a Garden City couple, Jill and Jay Campbell, haven’t been back on the ship since March 27, while the ship was in São Tomé and Príncipe, an African island nation.

Norwegian Cruise Line said the guests were on a private tour and did not make it back in time.

“We were waiting for the tender boats to come back and get us because our boat was anchored off the harbor, but they didn’t come back to get us, so we’re stranded here,” said Jay Campbell.

The cruise line said all guests were told about 3 p.m. all aboard time, but the eight guests missed it by more than an hour. It added that their passports were left with the local port agents for retrieval.

Norwegian Cruise Line explained that it works closely with local tour operators to ensure excursions are planned to the cruise line’s schedule to guarantee timely arrivals back to port. The cruise line said since the group was on a private tour, it was not in communication with the tour operator.

The Campbells were eight days into the 21-day cruise, which started in South Africa, when they were left.

Norwegian Cruise Line claimed that once the guests did not make it back to the ship at the all aboard time, it worked with them and the local port agent to help with obtaining the necessary visas for them.

”Our team has been working closely with the local authorities to understand the requirements and necessary visas needed for the guests to rejoin the ship at the next available port of call,” the cruise line said.

The cruise line also said another guest was “medically disembarked” on March 27 while the ship was in São Tomé and Príncipe.

After leaving a hospital on the island, that guest was escorted on a flight to Portugal, “and then put in the care of airport staff to continue her journey to the United States,” Norwegian Cruise Line said.

On 8 April , a total solar eclipse will sweep across Mexico, the US and Canada. This kind of eclipse only occurs when the sun and moon line up perfectly in the sky so the moon covers the entire disc of the sun, casting a shadow on Earth. The path that this shadow takes as it rushes across the ground at speeds in excess of 2400 kilometres per hour is called the path of totality, and during this eclipse it will pass from Mexico’s west coast, up across 13 US states and through Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland in Canada. At any given location, totality will last between about 90 seconds and nearly 4.5 minutes.

On 8 April a total solar eclipse will pass over Mexico, the US and Canada. Our special series is covering everything you need to know, from how and when to see it to some of the weirdest eclipse experiences in history.

During this time, the sky will be dark as twilight and temperatures will drop up to 10 degrees. Viewers will be able to remove their eclipse glasses – crucial during the partial phase of the eclipse – and look directly at the sun as it is covered by the moon. This coverage renders the sun’s outermost layer, the corona, visible. During other times, it is too dim to see in the glare of sunlight. Total solar eclipses like this one are valuable times for researchers studying the sun, and they have led to enormous scientific advances over the years.
